"Flybird, an aviation-themed fast-casual restaurant that opened downtown today, offers a variety of fried chicken sandwiches and salads. It features a 'classic' chicken sandwich with a flattened, cutlet style piece of chicken from Springer Mountain Farms, topped with homemade bread and butter pickles and ranch slaw on a Boudin Bakery bun. Other offerings include a spicy version glazed with buffalo sauce, and spinoffs like 'Mexico City' and 'med' sandwiches with various toppings. Customers can also substitute a fried sweet potato for chicken." - Caleb Pershan

"Flybird is a new quick-service restaurant from the team behind Sababa, located at 35 Kearny Street in San Francisco. It focuses on fried chicken sandwiches in various styles from around the world. The main offering, a 'classic' chicken sandwich, is made with Springer Mountain Farms chicken, topped with homemade bread and butter pickles and ranch slaw on a Boudin Bakery bun. Additional options include a spicy version with buffalo sauce, a 'Seoul Food' option with Asian slaw and gochujang pepper sauce, and a 'Provencal' version with sautéed peppers, arugula, and chevre. Customers can also substitute a fried sweet potato for chicken, and a menu of salads is available. The restaurant will offer lunch and dinner initially, with breakfast sandwiches and a beer and wine license expected in the future." - Caleb Pershan

This is not hyperbolic, Flybird just may have the BEST FRIED CHICKEN sandwich in all of San Francisco. Let’s be honest, fried chicken sandwiches are easy to take pretty pictures of, but, hard to master. Flybird has done both of these tasks with great ease. Today was my first visit at Flybird and it’s an extremely open, colorful, and easy to order establishment. I really appreciate the open design and that you can see the full kitchen when ordering. That level of transparency is valuable and helps to establish trust in the business and staff. You place your order on one (1) of two (2) touch screens where you can decide which type of sandwich or salad you’d like to order. The only issue is that there are only two (2) touchscreens which may be problematic during a lunch or dinner rush. Ultimately, it’s worth the wait, if you encounter one. Now, on to what I ordered, I for the “HOT CLASSIC.” That fried chicken sandwich consists of a mashup of Nashville and buffalo style sauce, cabbage and carrot slaw with butter pickles. I also purchased French fries. The chicken sandwich was PHENOMENAL! I ate it so damn fast, I didn’t realize it was gone. The fries were hot with the right amount of salt. It tasted very similar to McDonald’s, but better. The Downside is that it’s a bit pricey. My total was about $18, which is a lot for just a sandwich and fries (no combo meal). The only test left for FLYBIRD is, will it be as good the second (2nd) time around. This is a must try place!! I went for a second time and it was JUST as good as the first!! 5 Stars

Ordered lunch from Flybird through DoorDash. Flybird’s The Classic ($12) is way better than the one I tried from The Bird. The fried chicken in Flybird’s sandwich is a beautiful golden brown. It’s crispy on the outside with juicy chicken on the inside. The breading is not overwhelming. I was surprised by the size of the sandwich. I thought it’d be the size of a burger, but it turned out to be huge. The sandwich is conveniently cut in half. Each half is about the size of a typical burger. $12 for a fried chicken sandwich sounds expensive, but I feel like I got my money’s worth. The House Fries with First Class sauce ($4) is also tasty. People who are obsessed with McDonald’s French Fries should give the House Fries a try. I especially like the condiment that accompanies the fries. I was going to save the Chocolate Chip Cookie ($2.50) for later, but I took a bite so I could give feedback on that as well. Two thumbs up for the cookie, too. It’s between crispy and soft, so it should please chocolate chip cookie fans. Oops, ended up taking two more bites of the cookie, heh heh. All in all, I’m happy with my order and would definitely order from Flybird again. For those who are looking for a spicy fried chicken sandwich, Flybird also offers The Hot Classic. If you’re looking for something even more unique, they have international versions of the fried chicken sandwich. There’s something for everyone. If you feel like eating Korean food or Mexican food, they have a fried chicken sandwich for you.

I've come here twice as it's always on my yelp search. It seemed a bit expensive for the sandwiches, so I tried their ceasar salad first. I kept seeing their name and great reviews that I tried their classic chicken sandwich soon after. The salad was pretty standard. The chicken cutlet was really good. It was crispy, but not super greasy or anything. The ranch seemed to be pretty standard. The chicken sandwich was actually a lot bigger than I expected. The chicken again looked perfectly fried and crispy. It was a lot of cabbage and seemed to take away from the chicken. The bread was really good though. I was surprised by the sandwich size, but not sure if I was super impressed by it. It is about average pricing for sf downtown. If you're craving a chicken sandwich, I would recommend here. It's convenient and fast.

I work right nearby and I end up eating here 2-3 times a week. I really love the side chicken which is essentially chicken katsu. It's crispy, well-seasoned and juicy. The fries are on point and my coworkers devour the sandwiches. The price is right too. Here's a picture of a double order of side chicken.

I’ve had a lot of fried chicken sandwiches in the bay area and this one pales in comparison. The chicken itself is pretty thin which makes it easy to overlook and dry out which is what happened in my case. The flavor was also lacking, mainly not enough salt. I added cheese and avocado to my sandwich and they left the knob part of the avocado which I unpleasantly bit into. I also wish they melted the cheese… they just put cold slices of cheese in my sandwich which didn’t add much to it. All in all I wouldn’t try another sandwich from here

Visited SF from Hawaii and let my gut guide me to a quick lunch during a conference. The colorful logo and street advert for chicken katsu drew me in, and I ended up ordering the Seoul Food fried chicken sandwich. The service was very quick. Sandwich was super flavorful with a good blend of ingredients, well cooked chicken (katsu, not the standard American fried style!), and fluffy bread. I’m glad I wandered in!!

Whatever you do, make sure not to order the grilled chicken in salad format. Ouch! I ordered the fried chicken salad after seeing rave reviews about it, but received the grilled by mistake via delivery. No big deal forcing me to be healthy and all, but holy moly this is some tough, dry, salty, unpleasant chicken breast. Eating this salad almost felt like punishment - and the dressing, while oily and creamy (and generally pleasant) brought no sweetness or acidity to break through the dry, tough, salty cold chicken breast in my salad. Man, my jaw is tired from chewing. I not only feel like I'm on a diet against my will, but I lost the desire to eat halfway into the salad. I'll be back... for the fried chicken that we will hopefully get right next time.

Food and Customer service is absolutely AMAZING. I am a regular at Flybird and 100% recommend the Caesar Salad with fried chicken and avocado. I came in on Monday and ordered my usual (Delicious by the way, try it!) but ended up getting someone else's order by mistake, I called the restaurant and owner Jay was quick to make things right. As a business owner myself, I really appreciate when people put effort into showing their loyal customers that they care. Thanks you guys!
