Fonda La Catrina - Review - Georgetown - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Georgetown is one of those vortex neighborhoods where a lack of public transportation means you’re not leaving unless you have to. This isn’t a bad thing if you like grungy wall murals and hate people. But you will need to find some good standby restaurants in the general vicinity, and when it comes to Mexican food, your pickings are pretty slim. There are a few great counter-service spots to grab a quick handful of tacos and a Tecate, but Fonda La Catrina is one of the only options for something sit-down. If you’re committed to staying in the area and the occasion calls for a more upscale meal with some cocktails rather than throwing cash at a counter, Fonda La Catrina is fine. Otherwise, skip it. It’s not awful, but it’s also not great. The warehouse look fits in well with the rest of its Georgetown surroundings, and it definitely works for sipping tequila flights outside with a date under string lights or splitting an appetizer with a friend (but beware that you’ll probably be seated next to someone who should have gotten cut off two sangrias ago). The tamales are good, and the queso fundido is decent. It’s when you get into the entrees that your meal becomes a total crapshoot, and not the exciting kind like in a casino with high stakes and martinis and people with pocket squares. We’ve had okay carne asada here, but also shrimp that’s covered in taste-bud-destroying spice and nothing else, which is what we imagine shoving a blow torch down our throats might be like. And in addition to being a gamble, the main dishes will make a big dent in the budget you set for yourself on Mint. Even with a lack of Mexican options in the area, Fonda La Catrina isn’t worth much of your time. The dining room has an open industrial-chic thing going on, but so does every other restaurant in Seattle. If you happen to be wandering nearby with a date, and drinking palomas in an attractive space with a couple of tamales sounds like an ideal next move, stopping in here will get the job done. If you’re with your crew and everyone wants to just do some beers and queso, go for it. If eating a memorable, delicious Mexican meal is important to you, you’ll have to get out of the Georgetown vortex to find it. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Totopos Con Quacamole Much like a tequila shot or copper cookware, this could have benefitted from more citrus and salt. Also, we get that the chips are supposed to be thicker, but they’re too puffy and greasy to actually be enjoyable. Queso Fundido It’s no surprise that queso fundido is typically pretty greasy, but Fonda’s is a nice change in that department. It’s gooey, stretchy, not too oily, and served with avocados, corn tortillas, pickled onion, and pico de gallo. Adding chorizo or asada and making this your dinner would be an acceptable route to take here. Chicken Tamale Masa filled with pulled chicken and topped with a black bean sauce, onion, cream, cilantro, and queso fresco. As far as tamales go, this one is great and our favorite thing here to eat. Alambre Tacos We endorse the fact that there’s bacon in these steak tacos along with green peppers, onion, cilantro, and avocado. They’re slightly better if you add cheese (because that’s obvious), but overall nothing special. Chorizo Tacos The flavor is decent here, but the texture of the chorizo is so finely ground that it kind of feels like fancy feast paté. Add avocado and top with some hoarded tortilla chips for crunch. Camarones A La Diabla Shrimp sitting in a pool of greasy oil and sauteed in spices so hot, your taste buds will probably flatline for a while. Which is a good thing if you’re planning to continue eating this. Skip at all costs." - Aimee Rizzo

Where to Find the Best Takeout Food and Drinks in Georgetown | Eater Seattle

"This spot serves consistently wonderful Mexican food using local ingredients, such as enchiladas de mole poblano with mushrooms and a cochinita pibil burrito with Carleton Farms pork shoulder. It’s open for takeout and delivery via DoorDash, with onsite dining, including an outdoor patio. (Sibling restaurant El Sirenito is a great option for fish tacos.)" - Gabe Guarente

Google
On our way back visiting Crystal Mt., found this place on Google with good/high ratings. Place was busy for a Wed evening which was a good sign. Interestingly, there was another Mexican restaurant next door which was empty! Easy paid parking next door. We were seated right away and the server came over, took our orders and promptly had our drinks and appetizers out. Had a great time as the ambiance was pretty cool, fast service and good food. All of the food we ordered were very good, piping hot and flavored. The only one not good was the Chilli Relleno, which felt stale and tasted weird, which to their credit they took off the tab as we couldn't enjoy it. Very satisfied and happy, would recommend this place. Lots of vegetarian options too.

Google
We had three dishes, all delicious. I had the rajas con papas and would recommend trying that vegetarian dish first. Our other two were off the breakfast menu: a tortilla and mole dish and a scrambled egg and avocado sandwich. Both were great. I’m not always a fan of mole, but this was not overly sweet, which made it work. Our waiter was helpful, especially when we were torn between choices, and told us about the sauces and what she liked about each. Everything was fresh and the service quick on a Sunday lunchtime. Well-priced considering the quality is everything you’d expect in a high end hipster joint, which this place is not. Very casual vibe, with enough conversation to make it a bit loud, but not impossible to hear across the table. We will be back to this place for sure.

Google
My favorite Mexican restaurant in Georgetown! Delicious margarita. I like the spicy one, but their house is great too. The comalito is my go too with steak, chorizo, melted cheese and cactus. And of course their famous homemade corn tortillas. But don’t order it to go, not the same. Their pozole and menudo are great too! Chile verde with pork is scrumptious.

Google
Man, I don't understand the reviews on this place. First time writing a negative review. Chilaquiles were soggy when they should still retain some crunch. Salsa roja flavor is fine. $6 dollar upcharge for 2 eggs is wild. $4 upcharge for chicken. First Mexican restaurant I've been to that's charged for chips (they were good chips though) and salsa. Staff was not exactly rude but not exactly welcoming either. Friend ordered $15 lengua tacos (qty 3) that looked more like a snack than an entree. 22% automatic gratuity for larger parties. Overall, the food and value at this place is pretty atrocious. The only redeeming quality at this place is the ambiance, outside patio was decent.

Google
Fantastic brunch experience! Authentic, house made tortillas, and salsas, it is clear they value good, real food with fresh ingredients. I can usually tell when something comes from a jar, can, or bag, not the case here. I will be back when I'm in town, thanks to the Fonda crew! I only wish I could have enjoyed a cocktail (had to work this afternoon).

Google
Best Mexican restaurant we’ve visited in Seattle! Our server spoke to us in Spanish which was awesome! Food tasted authentic. Despite it being busy, we didn’t wait any time to be seated and our food came out within ten minutes of ordering which seemed like a magic trick tbh. Best experience at a restaurant in Washington. Will Def be back! And the drinks were delicious and strong! $8 house margaritas too.

Google
Really good time at Fonda La Catrina. It was pretty busy but we got seated immediately and our drink and food orders were taking right away. The food was so so good and also the chips and salsa were perfect. Definitely give this place a try.

Google
It's been a while since I came to lunch with my husband around 1:30 pm. The restaurant was full of customers, so I decided to sit on the patio. Patio was warm with a heater on the ceiling and a nice sitting area. There were people celebrating their children with their families, and it was nice. We were unsure what to order but decided to share Camalito with the two of us. It was eaten by wrapping meat or cheese in homemade tortillas. The meat was a little hard, but it didn't taste bad. Our server was nice and pleasant.

Yelp
We don't live close to the area but wanted Mexican while not wanting to keep eating at Cactus so we made the drive to eat here. We're glad we did! Given that at a lot of Mexican, and Tex-Mex places have entrees that are $15-$25 this was actually reasonable prices at around $10-$15! Yes, the portions were not as big, but at the same time, I don't ever really finish the huge piles of rice and beans, I just want the main course; which, no this case, was their enchilada. It wasn't big, I won't lie, but it had great flavor and truly hit the sport. The only downside for us was that the chips and salsa aren't free. Which is fare. But I was kind of hoping the chip refills would be free (like at Cactus) once you've ordered them ($8). Overall, great vibes. Would go again.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and quickly realized there's dozens of menu items I would like to sample. If you've read any of my reviews you know I'm a sucker for tacos, so I started with the Carne Asada tacos and a Chicken Roja tamale. Both were amazing, great bold flavors. Plating was beautiful, which can be tricky for Mexican cuisine, but these were some very pretty plates. The service was great and very friendly. Everyone we spoke with was just wonderful. The decor is exactly what I love, that perfect balance between quirky, fun, interesting and modern. It somehow had this gritty feel while still being clean and orderly. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great Mexican food. They do it right.

Yelp
Way back in April 2023, our household instituted a monthly Dinner Series for my daughter, who went from a picky toddler to a picky school ager to a picky teenager. In trying to support her in all ways possible, and especially once she became more curious about food and self-determined to be more adventurous and enjoy more variety, I created a way to hype up her curiosities by making it an adventure to go try new (to her) cuisines and invite trusted guests along for the ride! FLC was the 4th in the Series because when she expressed the next cuisine to be Mexican, I did some research on local FB and Yelp foodie threads and realized this was one of Seattleites overwhelmingly top picks for favorite Mexican. We rolled in BIG (with a reservation ofc!) last 4th of July eve with a party (and do I ever mean PARTY :) of 15 people. Mostly family on both sides with a few close friends thrown in. They seated us on their raised outdoor deck between their inside restaurant and their small back patio, but given the warm and lovely summer weather, all of the doors were open and windows were rolled up, giving the entire place an al fresco feel. The tables were of all sizes (from 8 to 2 tops) spaced out across the deck but we quickly put them together to create one large L-shaped table off to the side that felt more in spirit to the convivial celebratory spirit we were going for. What can I say? My dish and those I sampled (at least 4 others) were all incredible, as was the Cadillac margarita I enjoyed with the chips-salsa-guac we ordered to start (3 for the table). I got the Camarones Plate ($24) in the mojo de ajo style. The large shrimp were perfectly cooked in their garlic butter and the rice & beans were also flavorful (the beans had a generous topping of crumbled queso fresco on top). The star of the night - my daughter - got the Tacos Dorados (potatoes & cheese version) but with none of the toppings on top, rather on the side. I got to try, as it was too much for her. This is one of my Mexican faves and next visit I look forward to re-ordering it as intended with all the yummy groceries on top! We couldn't leave without dessert and the bites of flan and tres leches I tried were the perfect end to the meal - not overly sweet or heavy. There are obviously too many dishes ordered for me to go through them all (and this WAS almost 11 months ago so I think I've just about hit the end of my memory recall) but what I can say is that everyone left quite happy and effusively complimenting my restaurant selection. Highly recommend! Oh and if ya'll are curious about price, our total was $523.87 all together, including tax and a mandatory 20% gratuity (standard, for parties of 8 and over.) I think this was great value-for-$ (relatively speaking, remember this IS Seattle) as this included 10 adult bevies, a Mexican coke, a coffee, a horchata, 3 chips-salsa-guac, my daughter's tacos dorados appetizer as a meal, 12 mains of varying prices (from 2 $24 plates to mid-teens priced quesadillas/enchiladas/tacos/ceviches and a 2 tamale+tortilla soup combo), and 4 desserts!

Yelp
Gracias mi amigos at FLC! Your pozole is loaded with tender pork, unctuous broth, and all the cabbage and radishes are already served inside the bowl marinating with that spectacular broth. So you don't have to add it and let it steep to get it just perfect to scoop and slurp! I come here every time I'm in Georgetown.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in years. I was happy to remember to visit for lunch recently. I enjoyed the food and service I almost returned for dinner the next day. I'm looking forward to my next visit. The restaurant is casual and fits well in the neighborhood. I like the outdoor dining area in the back. My go-to dish is the carne asada with the cactus.

Yelp
Food is alright, tacos were super crispy (over fried) but flavor wise good, the bacon on the jalapeño poppers were half crispy and half sort of soggy, the mole chicken slider was a tad sweet but overall had strong mole flavors. We also got the ceviche but found it to be lacking, tasted mostly of pineapple- the chips were fine, super crunchy. Food comes out quickly and service is friendly. Happy hour pricing makes it worth it. Loud inside and out but outdoor seating is perfect for a nice summer day. 2.5 stars if I could.

Yelp
It took about 5 minutes to seat our party of seven around 2 pm on a Friday. The patio in the back was warm, but I was wearing a long sleeve shirt and shorts after getting off our cruise ship, so I was likely dressed too warmly. The water was plentiful but no ice for the cups. The food was delicious! My son and I each had the lengua tacos. We also got two orders of chips and salsa for the table which my daughter was sad we're not free like they are back home at our neighborhood. taqueria. My parents shared a pork torta which they liked and found filling to share and with leftovers. My brother ordered the carne adada tacos. My daughter enjoyed the pozole soup which was outstanding. She also tried the pollo tacos. The bar waiter was fussing at us for wanting to sit at our table since my mom has a disability making it difficult to walk. Hence the removal of one star from an otherwise enjoyable culinary experience. Please be more kind to people and families with disabilities.

Yelp
Lovely place and awesome food. Server was nice who made sure we are taken care. Front desk person could by more friendly and nice to ask if we want to sit outside or inside. Overall good experience and lots of vegetarian options.

Yelp
Love the queso and chips and the pork Carnitas are so amazing. I've actually never had a bad meal there.!

Yelp
Always superior food, ambiance and service. Fonda La Catrina has amazing tortilla chips salsa and guacamole. If you don't start with This trio, you are lame. The enchiladas are amazing. Tacos have super juicy chicken and are filling if you have 2-3. Margaritas are super and they do make a good skinny margarita if you want to eat more of your calories.

Yelp
Friendly environment, spacious, busy. The food arrived not too long of a wait. I ordered the Enchiladas de Verdes and it was very good l. The sour cream, sauce, and lettuce added great factor and it was sweet and a little spicy. Portions were good although I wish there was rice and beans. Waiter was nice and efficient. Also no chips and salsa to snack on before getting our food. The designs and outdoor area of the restaurant are nice and aesthetic to the feel of the place.

Yelp
Great food, good service, nice atmosphere. We started off with house margaritas (good), followed by a small bowl of pozole rojo -- mm-mm delicious! We followed that up with tamales in mole and tamales in salsa verde -- both wonderful (we had a pork and chicken fillings). Great food. Being fairly warm, we sat in the part of the dining room which is partially outside ... good ventilation, but not completely in the open. They have both inside seating and truly outside seating as well. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the sound levels where we sat were just perfect (enough conversations in the background to offer some privacy, but not so loud that hearing your own conversation is difficult. The server was efficient and friendly, and the drinks came quickly. The food soon followed, though not before we'd had a chance to enjoy part of our drinks -- just perfect. We'll keep going back - love this place.

Yelp
Yummy, yummy, yummy. And no wait to boot! Well, at least not on Labor Day night. I must say, the food was good but the drinks were lacking. I had two chicken tamales (one rojo and one salsa verde) for dinner which were pretty good, but the chicken was a little dry inside. I ordered the margarita flight (strawberry, lime, and mango). They all seemed super watered down and not really flavorful. We also ordered queso fundido for an appetizer which was really good and came with homemade tortillas. I might try this place again if I'm in the area. There was another bar next door that seemed promising as well and I'm sure they are sister restaurants.

Yelp
I have always had a good time here over the years! Food is always solid, services is always good. Prices are decent. Vibe is relatively cool. Go to whenever I'm in Georgetown.
google avatar

Kulwinder J.

Yelp
This place exudes coziness with a friendly staff; our server was exceptionally kind and attentive. We visited on a busy Sunday evening, so having reservations was beneficial. Although the food arrived promptly and was decent, it lacked flavor and the portions were average-sized. The pricing was reasonable, but parking was challenging to find..
google avatar

Yelp
A friend of mine encouraged me to come here and I'm so glad I did. Lots of great options on the menu, but I couldn't make up my mind. I decided to ask the waiter and he gave me a couple of the best items on the menu. I forgot the name of it, but it was a type of tacos that I was not familiar with, made with beef. It was delicious! Great recommendation! Secondly, it's in a very cool neighborhood, if you've never been to Georgetown, it's a real treat! As mentioned, the service was helpful and quick! I don't live super close to here, but I would definitely come back!

Madealine L.

Yelp
Was shared between 2! Portion was nice and generous. Comes with a huge side of chips. The flavors were good but mild so we did add some salt and debated if we wanted to ask for salsa picante but decided against at the end. I give it a 6/10. Carne asada, frijoles negros, cebolla, queso fresco. The place was nicely decorated and the music play list was 10/10. Was kind of loud and difficult when it came to ordering but overall experience was a 6.5/10. I would give it another go before the end of holiday!!

Yelp
What a great surprise! Amazing staff and authentic food. Will drive miles and miles to eat here.

Yelp
We've been here many times, and it's a good happy hour spot when we're in the area or passing through. My #1 favorite is the Paloma. It's a GREAT tequila cocktail if you like grapefruit. This one is flavorful, not too sweet and a good one-drink-buzz. It pairs nicely with chips and salsa, because what doesn't pair nicely with chips and salsa? We love the Elotes, it makes a great tasty corn dip to go with chips. My go-to (and I typically do not stray from this) are the tamales with mole sauce. Two fill me up nicely! We've been for brunch also, and love the brunch enchiladas. There are lots of menu options. Give it a try!
google avatar

Scott E.

Yelp
An excellent place to stop for Mexican. Prices seem pretty fair for the big city. Good, fast service as well. And it's also cool room. Worth a visit.
google avatar

Paris F.

Yelp
I think the food was decent but I don't know if it was 18 dollars worth. I had enchiladas shrimp and it came with few shrimps lapped in small tortillas. No rice no beans for 18 dollars. No thanks. The service was friendly and super nice. But I would not make my way to come back here again. The little patio outside is nice on the sunny days
google avatar

Liz S.

Yelp
Okay overall -- the chips and salsa were yummy, and our server did a great job taking care of our large party. It was a little weird sitting outside when it was cold and windy and a little rainy, but the patio heaters did their job. Decor inside was super cute too! On the negative side, I didn't love the food. I got the sopes, and they were pretty bland and really nothing to write home about. Other people seemed to enjoy their meals though, so I'd give them another try and just order something different!
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
We had amazing food! Came here for lunch after a nice couples massage midweek and it was packed! We started with some rockfish ceviche that tasted so good and fresh. I ordered the enchiladas mole poblano and it was sooo good! Wife got the carne asada taco trio and loved them, simple and delicious. We wash had a cocktail and those also were very good, we will be back for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
This spot has such a cool and industrial vibe. I was craving Mexican food the other day and since I was going to an event in Georgetown I decided to stop right here ahead of time. I ordered the mole poblanos enchilada with chicken and it really hit the spot. I was pleased with the taste and the sauce it came with. Another plus is that the service was friendly and quick. Georgetown is not an easy area to find parking so that was one thing I am not a fan of here.

Yelp
Going to try to keep this one short and sweet: - Vibes: 5/5 - the salsa music was reminiscent of sundays at home (minus the cleaning, IYKYK) - Service: 5/5 Awesome waitress that helped us with some recommendations since everything on the menu looked delicious - Food: 4/5 The chips were a little too greasy for my liking. Guac and salsa were nothing to write home about, pretty standard. The lengua tacos were extremely delicious though -- the thin homemade tortilla with the tender lengua made me want more of these tacos in the end. Order of tacos are filling enough despite not having any sides. - Drink: 4/5 My jalapeño margarita was not spicy at all (also a missed opportunity for a tajin rim) but everyone else loved theirs. I tasted the tamarind margarita and would def get it next time. Overall, this place is a solid 4.5/5 in my book.

Manmir A.

Yelp
Ambiance was great, food was good too. Went late at night so we were hungry and did not get to sit back and fully enjoy the food. Service was acceptable. Quite busy, which is a good sign. Would like to try other menu items.

Yelp
This place has character and is quaint and colorful. We came for a weekday lunch and our service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and enjoyed them very much. They weren't too sweet which I like. My mom ordered the carne asada tacos and she liked them but was confused they didn't come with any salsa or hot sauce. When we asked for some they brought as dark chili chipotle sauce that wasn't anything like salsa. They also charged for it which I think is weird because tacos should come with salsa. When I asked for hot sauce like tapatio or something, he said they had nothing. I guess the move they want you to make is ordering the $3 chips and salsa which comes with the more typical salsa you would find for tacos. No one should have to spend $3 when they order $14 street tacos because they want some salsa. All the easing said, I love pozole so I'll be back to try that!

Yelp
Every time I drive through Georgetown, I wonder how this restaurant tastes! Tonight was my night! We decided to spend our Day of the Dead dinner here after a jaunt through the Georgetown Morgue. The restaurant is intimate and beautifully decorated. Cool masks, sacred hearts, and Mexican flags adore in the interior. The food was savory and satisfying and it was priced very well. We ordered a couple of sodas, an appetizer and two meals and somehow we got out of there around $50 for both of us. The only setback was a shift change or maybe it was a break but once we received our meals, we weren't checked up on or given a beverage refill. After sitting a little too long at our table, another waiter finally came over and helped us cash out for the night. I would definitely recommend for the food! People say this is some of the most authentic stuff in Seattle, and it felt very wholesome to eat.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
I've been here a few times trying different things. It's okay but not great. Tonight was the worst and I don't think I'll return. Chips were over salted. The 3 tacos I got were tasteless (carne asada) with NO veggies except for 3 slivers of avocado and a few diced white onion. No slaw, cheese, or tomatoes. I had to salt the meat just to get some flavor. Nothing interesting about them at all. Hubby got the chorizo tacos - same thing. Flavorless, no condiments. $15.00 if you wanted cheese they charged you extra. Guacamole had no spice or flavor. Verde sauce was good but no heat. No hot sauces offered or available. $6 HH house margarita was okay but bar tender shared that they put less booze in the HH margarita so no real deal there. Service was fine. But for the price there are better places to go for Mexican food

Yelp
Fun, fresh and tasty. First time here and it was enjoyable. Tasty pozole with big chunks of pork. Nice rich red color and flavorful. We were really in the mood for tamales so we ordered both pork and raja con queso tamales. Nicely done and appreciated the garnishes on the side accompanying the tamales. Added a side of rice and beans - good stuff. Recommended.

Yelp
Georgetown isn't my usual stomping grounds, but it is such a cute area! I love getting the chance to stop in to the businesses in the area when I'm able - really glad to have had the chance to try Fonda La Catrina after another local business owner suggested it. Great service, the staff is really kind. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. I was just grabbing a small bite to eat so I went with one of my favorites - Chicken Tortilla Soup! For a large bowl it was $12 which made it an affordable small meal - I wasn't stuffed from it but I was comfortably full so if you have a smaller appetite, it's plenty of food! Loved the tomato and pasilla chile broth - was packed full of flavor and had a slight kick to it. Overall super delicious! Definitely would come back and try more of the menu given the opportunity.

Yelp
This place is a Georgetown staple and one of my go-to Seattle restaurants when I'm in town for work. The chips and salsa and guac plus a margarita on the patio is the perfect cure for a bad day. Whether it's been the bar for happy hour or a big group for dinner, I've never had anything but wonderful service. Looking forward to my next jalapeño margarita soon!
google avatar

Yelp
Great tequila selection! I'm all about the verde pork shoulder. The pazole soup is amazing. The atmosphere is great and the patio is nice when it's warm enough. We found the staff relaxed and friendly, yet prompt and professional. A true Baja west coast Mexican. Not Amerimex.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday at noon expecting a long wait but we were seating immediately. They have a nice covered outdoor patio where we sat. Ordered chips and salsa with guacamole, delicious homemade chips! I had the camarones with rice and black beans in a garlic butter sauce, very good!! My husband ordered the pork in salsa verde and he loved his. We didn't realize till we paid our bill they had menudo for a special that day. Will for sure return! Great atmosphere and service!! Our server told us there is free two hour parking behind the restaurant.

Yelp
Our first time here and it was amazing! The chips, guacamole and salsa we're delicious! The house margaritas were great on the rocks and perfectly salted. Our table ordered the chorizo tacos, pozole verde special, mole enchiladas, cheese enchiladas verde and the Chile relleno. Every plate was delicious and the servings were generous. We were too hungry to take pictures, but the food was amazing! We will be back every time we go to Seattle!

Yelp
This has been an all time favorite of mine located in the Georgetown neighborhood (Seattle). Been coming here for years for family meals, friend gatherings and lots of work lunches. Have tried everything and often dabble on their daily specials, but one of my all time favorites is the comalito. Steak, chorizo, onions, Chile, cactus and cheese on a hot skillet served with a side of fresh hot tortillas. How can you go wrong?! Total flavor bomb. It's best to let the cheese sizzle and develop that crust and make sure to peel it off the griddle because that's the best part! Do go early because this place books up fast. You wont be disappointed here!

Yelp
We grabbed lunch on a sunny Sunday a few weekends ago. This was my 7th outing at Fonda La Catrina over many years. We had: Chiles Asados - grilled mixed peppers, queso fresco Pork Tamale with mole sauce Tacos - Chorizo & Conchinita Pibil. Their chorizo is so very soft and unlike the deep crumby texture at most places. The pibil is genuinely tender. For drinks, we had a margarita flight - Tamarindo, Jalapeño and Mango. Really good. We asked for a hot sauce. The waiter took a while to get some. It's freshly made and is hot and very good. Brought some back home. :-) Service was great. We were seated quickly and had an attentive guy who took great care of us. Ambience is always great. Loud music, colorful with calavera skeletons and classic mural art every where!

Yelp
Highs: delicious food, nice atmosphere with the brick and glass façade. A euphoric oasis in the urban desert, contrasted with the historic grime of this little Georgetown neighborhood. Hot take: the chips are the best Ive had in many years. Ehh's: Obnoxiously loud dining area for a mid week night. I would never go back on the weekend. The service felt rushed and indifferent. Lows: My $15 mango margarita was topped with an orange slice...annoying.

Yelp
The food is great as is the ambience. I am surprisingly disappointed at the house Margarita. It just is not that good and uses a mix rather than just lime juice like an authentic margarita. I am curious to try the higher end one and see if it's better.

Yelp
We went to Fonda La Catrina mid-day on a Saturday and were able to find a table outside with relative ease. The restaurant wasn't too busy, there were very few people sitting inside, so it was a little bit surprising that we waited about ~15 minutes or so before a member of the wait staff approached our table after they had come and went from other tables in the area a few times. The food was "okay," we ordered a mixture of tacos and the carne asada. The carne asada was a little more well-done than we would've liked, a little tough, and some of the carne asada tacos were too and the tortillas felt like they could've been cooked/warmed up a little bit longer too. The flavor of the food was good; however, the preparation/consistency of the meat wasn't our favorite, both the tacos and the carne Asada could've been a little more tender. It was a fun atmosphere. It feels like a really cool place to go during the summer for that area. Have a nice cold drink, some okay-to-good Mexican fare. It wasn't discouraging enough where I wouldn't come back. It felt like we came on an off-day, so we'd be up for trying it again.

Yelp
I was really excited about the restaurant and wanted to love it with the charming ambiance and perfectly salted tortilla chips. Unfortunately, my main entree fell flat- Carne asada-- it was plain and tough. Service was kind of on the slow side too. I probably won't return.

Yelp
I've been here twice! I tried pozole (2x), the chips and guacamole, carne asada tacos, and Chicken tamales! I was thoroughly impressed with all except the pozole. It wasn't bad but it didn't taste as flavorful as I'm used too. The tacos and tamales however were fantastic especially with the pricing! The guacamole tasted nice and fresh and I also like the chips. The horchatta and pineapple juice we had was a little watery however don't let that take away from the delicious food. Also do anticipate waiting or slow service due to how small the place is and how busy it can get. Definetly come here for a nice dinner!

Yelp
30 years ago, this area was all industrial, and I can think of 3 reasons why most people would have come here. 1) The Sony Repair center, which doesn't exist anymore. DOL, which I'm not sure operates in the area and the big news is when Herfy's went in, finally a spot to get an all American burger shake and fries. Soon a tattoo place went in and then the bars and breweries. Over the years a lot of places have come and gone, so I tend not to get to excited about eateries in the area. When you consider Smarty Pants is a flavorless feast of food, you just can't get excited. Doesn't help that the parking situation in the area is also a deterrent. Finally made it in here, I was torn between here and the traditional restaurant next door, but happy hour here sounded like a plan. I had to chicken rolled tacos and chips and salsa. The taco was good, but the portion of chicken was so small, I couldn't even call it a snack, it was more like a bite. The chips were tasty and salsa was fresh, but I could have used something spicier. This place could have done better. The taco certainly needed more meat and they should also have a salsa selection. Price was ok, but again, the taco needed more meat. On the other hand, service was way too slow. It took too long to get anyone's attention, I had to flag someone down to have my drink filled and it took at least 10 minutes to pay the bill. The goal is to get people in and get people out, if you focus on that, I think you can run your business better. They had enough staff, they just weren't working together. I wouldn't g out of my way to return, but I would entertain it if I were in the area, but I'm probably try to full restaurant experience next door.

Yelp
Ordered carne asada tacos (they are dry) comes with white onions and cilantro, you get an order of three they don't come with any sides. The sauce it comes with tastes like spicy bbq not what I was anticipating. I would have liked pico de gallo. I got a side of rice and a small bowl of tortilla chicken soup which comes in a tomato broth. I poured some of the broth in the bowl of rice and added some of the chicken from the soup and then it was perfect. The bright spots - the decor (sit on the patio), the chips/salsa/guacamole, and the very strong house margarita. The drink was so strong I couldn't finish but I am a light weight. Good place for a new date or after work bite. It's loud so not for a serious convo or kids. Very much an adults only place or family with teens who are not picky.

Yelp
Cute little place we stopped in on our way from the airport to Everett. The mole enchiladas and the street corn were amazing. Great patio out back. Friendly service and a high chair for the two year old w our group.

Yelp
Wanted to find a new neighborhood place for burritos. Haven't even touched my food yet but I know I'm not coming back. 10-15 min estimated pickup. I arrived at 10 mins...they told me it was almost ready. I left and came back 5 mins later, asked another person...she said it was almost ready. 20 mins later I go up to the counter to see how much longer and tell them they could cancel it. It was just sitting there.... I was standing in front of them, not even on my phone, clearly waiting with intent and those incompetents would've let me stand there for 30 mins swindling my thumbs. To throw a little salt in the little wound, she couldn't even muster up an apologetic tone or a fake "sorry"...no common sense whatsoever. No sense of accountability either, but the worst part is they're just bad at service because they don't seem to care. Much more of a business and not a restaurant. For reference: I was being friendly the whole time. Also: they forgot my extra guac. Everybody loves paying extra for stuff they don't get, right? Doing the least. Update: there is, in fact, not even the regular guacamole in the burrito - mark them down for false advertising as well. Revising my review from 2 to 1 star. The burrito was also very bland....did they run out of salt? Pinching pennies to maximize profits, questionable recipes, or just Americanizing the food too much? TL;DR: the establishment doesn't respect your time - they didn't have the courtesy to tell me my order would be a full 20 mins delayed when I showed for a 10-15 min pickup time. No common sense and you lost a customer because of it. Respect people's time enough to let them know whether they'll be waiting 3-5 mins or a full 20. It's not rocket science, just restaurant science and you work at one. Get with the program.
