Yelp
We had high expectations for FORTU, but it fell short. For the prices, we were expecting better choices and more elevated flavors. There were a few standouts though and the cocktails were phenomenal, so may be good for just for a tapas / happy hour / quick bite place to go (but not a full lunch or dinner).
We had a Saturday brunch appointment and were seated promptly. Service was excellent all throughout. We tried the crudo, short rib & tuna tacos, seafood dumplings, wagyu dumplings, parmesan cheese & truffle potato sticks (fried in beef tallow I believe ), ube cheesecake, ube cocktail.
The meh: We felt the crudo wasn't balanced (some bites too acidic); the wagyu dumplings felt greasy and the big chunks of beef inside felt too dense (not the right cut we felt); the short rib tacos were flavorful, but we thought they were overpowering sp with the fried wonton shell (better if served with non-fried item); seafood dumplings were okay, nothing special flavor-wise (albeit perfectly cooked).
The good: The parmesan cheese & truffle potato sticks (fried in beef tallow I believe ), were so good. A bit greasy, but they were perfectly crunchy and the flavors tied they're so well - and *perfect* while having drinks. Speaking of, we had the ube cocktail and it was so good we had 2 rounds (creamy, balanced - cheers to the bartenders!). For dessert, we had the ube cheesecake and LET ME TELL YOU: WHA?! I don't like cheesecake, but this was something else! Sooo light, almost like a mousse, with an interesting thin chocolate ube covering.
In short, we felt their ube offerings were the few truly amazing items -- most everything else felt like something was missing (or not balanced). For the prices, not sure we'll be back.
