The 12 Must-Visit Restaurants in St. Pete-Clearwater | Eater

"Located inside the historic Ponce De Leon Hotel, Fortu is a Japanese restaurant with an elevated, Izakaya-style menu. Serving everything as soon as it’s cooked, the restaurant specializes in A5 wagyu beef, even complementing their steak entrees with an option for wagyu tartare or wagyu fried rice. However, there’s still plenty of diversity on the menu, and those who order the miso black cod come away with rave reviews. Don’t miss the desserts, including the Pink Cloud, a strawberry mousse with pineberry compote." - Stephen Rubino

Dinner at Fortu is quietly remarkable. The ambiance is a balance between understated elegance and inviting warmth, creating the perfect backdrop for an unhurried meal. The miso cod, a dish that arrived perfectly glazed, its surface caramelized just enough to give way to tender, silky flesh beneath. A thoughtful, well-executed preparation For dessert, the cheesecake did not disappoint. Velvety in texture, simple, yet elevated in its execution and presentation. Service throughout the evening was gracious and attentive, with just the right touch of formality. It’s the kind of place that leaves you quietly satisfied, already considering your next visit before you’ve even left the table.

I cannot stress enough how much I love this place! I cannot believe it took us months to get here. I have no idea what stopped or hesitation and making a reservation, but if you're hesitating to make a reservation, do not! This place is on the corner of Saint Pete in the perfect location. They even have valet right up at the door, they compensate valet for you so you don't have to worry about paying! When you walk up the steps into the restaurant, you will be surprised on how tiny it is so definitely make a reservation if you're trying to go! They sat us right away. They were so accommodating with everything. They answered Oliver questions to the T. The server was able to make perfect recommendations. The food was phenomenal. I will eat this food every single day if I could. It is obviously a pricey Place to go. But well worth the experience!

We went for a friends birthday dinner and there were about 10 of us. We were sat at a large circular table in an intimate corner, perfect for the celebration. The aesthetic is modern and moody. The food was incredible and many of group had the coursed meal. We especially liked the scallops (we are pescatarian) but most of our friends eat meat and enjoyed the various meat dishes. Perfect place for date night and meal with friends.

Last minute decision turned into a good one. The staff was friendly from the start. I was a party of 1 so I went to the bar. Britney (sp) and David were superb and amazing. David knew this menu for sure. Points on knowing the menu and it's supporting ingredients. Starter - (Raw and Chilled) Wagyu Tartar. Excellent blend of seasoning. Tartar had a spicy kick, but not too overbearing. Just right. Prawn chips were a good combo to the Tartar. (I am conscious about texture). Main Dish - Paired the Japanese A5 Strip with the Japanese Sweet Potatoes. It's an A5 Strip. Juicy, tender, and cooked just right. Sweet potatoes were okay with me. The brulee was a good fusion. This was my my dish because of texture. Maybe 2 more minutes for the potatoes. I do recommend the the A5 Strip. Dessert - Ube Cheesecake. Divine. Decadent. If Toblerone and Crunch had a baby and flavored it ube. Good dessert. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant.

Google
Such a great addition to downtown Saint Pete. They have a great Asian fusion style menu. This food was super fresh and tasty. The restaurant feels very modern and elegant. Service was super attentive and friendly.

Went for a birthday- we did the 4 course meal and had 1 cocktail (too sweet/not balanced) - several upcharges for options on the meal - total was $233 for 2 people. The start was good (tuna tartar) the second we had the gyoza (not great) and the chard cabbage (drowned in sauce- not great). Entree of Miso Cod hands down the best cod ever - wow. Delicious, delicate, and perfectly cooked. Dessert was beautifully presented, but the ube cheesecake was good, but again not great - I was expecting everything to be kind blowing at their price point. Excellent service and lovely atmosphere.

Google
The food was good. I'm not a Wagu fan. I think if you are it would be the place for you. It's central to everything. Great date place. The atmosphere is nice. The truffle butter is great! I didn't like any of the desert offerings. The tuna was good. I do like raw tuna and fish. I wish the portions were bigger, and that says a lot, considering I have had bariactric surgery and can't eat much. Even I thought the portion was small so it would definitely leave a person with a normal size stomach hungry. The sauces are what they seemed most proud of and that's what I liked the most.

Google
The restaurant has a lovely, cozy vibe with tasteful decor and a great ambience perfect for a relaxed night out. We started with the tuna tartare and sweet potatoes, both of which were absolutely delicious. For mains, we had the black cod and steak; the cod was just okay, but the steak was solid. Cocktails were impressive and definitely a highlight. Service was decent, though not exceptional. Parking can be a bit tricky, and there weren’t any menu options for kids, so it’s better suited for adults. Overall, a great spot for good food and a great atmosphere.

Yelp
I'm not sure where to even begin. First, I have been blessed to partake in some of the most incredible cuisine around the globe. This is a blessing, and a curse, as during my sixty-fourth lap around the Sun, it takes something special to delight me. Fortu is just that special. Words like "incredible," "awesome," and "life-changing" come to mind when describing my experience. Asian, Check!

Yelp
Visited the Tampa area from Houston and had to stop by while I was close and man it didn't disappoint! We started off with drinks, Milk Bread, and Potato Millie Feuille which were both phenomenal and can't miss items. Next up, we enjoyed some Wagyu Gyoza and Spicy Pork Wontons which were both delicious and made me realize I've been missing out for a long time. Lastly, I ordered the Prime Filet and my girlfriend had the Japanese A5 Strip which were cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth good. (We also ordered the glazed carrots which were so good!) Not pictured but we took a slice of Ube Cheesecake to-go and it was the perfect way to wrap up this outstanding dinner. The place has a certain vibe and buzz to it that we thoroughly enjoyed and we can't wait to visit the Tampa area again to indulge in another perfect evening at Fortu!

Yelp
I would give this place 4.5 stars if I could! Starting off, the inside is beautiful. It's dimly-lit inside and has the potential to be a perfect date night spot. My only gripe is that it's pretty loud in there for a high-end, expensive restaurant. I felt like I was having to speak very loudly to my partner across the table in order for us to hear each other. The service was very good, our waiter was very attentive. I got a matcha cocktail and it was pretty good! I would get it again. Now for the food. My partner and I got the Wagyu wontons, shrimp tempura, milk bread, and Wagyu gyozas for starters. My favorite items were the wontons and the milk bread, both were phenomenal. The shrimp tempura was also very good. I would probably not get the gyozas again. My partner got the orange chicken and I got stir fried noodles with Wagyu for our entrees. The orange chicken was pretty good, nice and crispy. The noodles were a pretty big serving size for a side! I couldn't finish it all and took some home. Overall, this was a very nice date-night spot. I would come here again for a special occasion!

Yelp
First Michelin star restaurant which was exciting! The carrots were PHENOMENAL- the kimchi butter they were soaked in was one of the best things I've ever had. The wagyu dumplings were also very good. We were not overly impressed by the fried rice but the portion size was generous. Scallops were cooked perfectly, as was the steak! Cocktail was unbelievably delicious (Hakko Shita). Service was pleasant and inside of restaurant was elegant and comfortable.

Yelp
We walked inside to be seated out. Inside of the restaurant was very nicely set up, would be a great date night spot! We only wanted to grab something quick because we weren't too hungry. I must say it was absolutely delicious though. I will definitely be coming back for that and to try the Aussie waygu. The waiter was also very knowledgeable and friendly, our quick service was great!

Yelp
Friendly, attentive service. Nicely decorated and plentiful outdoor seating. Fried rice with wagyu (3/5)-- It has potential to be great but the dish was under seasoned and lacking some flavor. I prefer fried rice without soy sauce but the lack of seasoning on the rice and meat requires soy sauce to make this taste better. Milk bread (5/5)-- The bread was perfectly fluffy and the miso butter was really special. Ube cheesecake (4/5)-- It has a sweet, creamy ube filling with a crispy biscoff crust. I liked it better without the whip cream on top.

Yelp
Would say next time I will not sit outside, unless it is on the covered raised patio. There are tables basically at the corner, next to the street and it is just not a good experience when seated there. The wagyu tacos were not as I remembered...they were actually quite cold. The bluefin tuna tartare did not taste as fresh as when I've had it before and the black miso cod was an especially small portion compared to previously. Highlight was the creamed corn side. Too many amazing new restaurants have opened up in town for an average at best experience here, with a 4x price.
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
The food here is incredible. I've had the filet mignon & Waygu pairing. Both were amazing. Apps and sides also impressed me. The only reason for 4/5 stars is because my first time visiting I felt like the tables were too close together. I understand wanting to fit the most people but it was way too close together. I decided to go back for my dad's birthday as he loves steak and this time they forgot to bring out one of the steaks we ordered. It took forever and still nothing. We complained to management and they gave us free desserts. I would go back because the food is really THAT good just the service was not 5/5. I hope they figure out these issues as I know they are a newer restaurant.

Yelp
Went to Fortu while visiting one of my cousins who lives in Tampa. She had been to Fortu and highly recommended it! So we went for a girls night out and we were so happy we did! First off, the place is very cozy, the lighting is dimmed..perfect for a date! It's elegant and chic! I really loved the way it felt! Cozy, warm and very elegant! So dress up when you go! It's totally the sexy vibe! Now on to the food! I found that the menu was small but it doesn't bother me. I rather go to a place where they have few options but they're ALL amazing because they really hone the culinary skills mastering a few dishes! But I say that so you don't expect a larger menu like Cheesecake Factory's, lol! I ordered tacos. You order them by pair so I had 2 mushroom and 2 tuna! They were delicious! The tortilla is fried so super crunchy! I tried getting two bites out of the tacos because they are on the smaller side, but they would crumble. But let me tell you, boy I was not expecting their tacos to be so mouthwatering!! Like for real they were soooo flavorful!! I had the four little tacos plus tasted everything else my cousins and sister, ordered! So I tried everything you see in the pics! Their sweet potato is not the very orange one is a Boniato in Spanish, it was amazing! Tried the Chilean Sea bass! OMG SO GOOD! The orange chicken was delicious as well!! Everything we had was amazing! Everything!!! The flat noodles were great to try! I would definitely order anything you see in my pictures again!! The service was on point! Our server was so nice and courteous!! He was super well mannered, attentive and had very friendly energy! I totally recommend Fortu!! Trust me, it will not disappoint!

Yelp
If you want a fantastic place to enjoy dinner on your birthday, and you are into wagyu beef, then Fortu should be on your list to reserve a table. This Pan-Asian restaurant captures some amazing savory flavors within their cooking, including their wagyu-forward items that we enjoyed immensely. One point we didn't fully comprehend when we reviewed the menu in person at the restaurant was the number of wagyu items available from appetizers to steak dishes. Sitting at the table with its lovely dinnerware settings as we read the menu, Fortu offers Japanese A5 Wagyu steak selections, which I hadn't enjoyed before, but was determined for my birthday to check off the list. Within the Asian-inspired steakhouse interior with dark beiges and wooden trims and cream-colored cushioned seating, Fortu provides a magical experience that we enjoyed from the initial cocktails that allured the senses. Because it was happy hour when we arrived for another hour, we took advantage of the cocktail specials that were discounted. Gin-based cocktails like the cucumber-forward Sea of Osaka was delightful, while the Matcha Kanji was well balanced with sake and medeira. Dish-wise, we went mostly Wagyu in direction starting with the Wagyu tartare and the gyoza. The former was so yummy with the shitake and shallots and went well with the togarashi chips. The latter was so savory and succulent that burst with so much umami when dipped in the black garlic ponzu. For our mains, we enjoyed the A5 wagyu filet with truffle butter and the miso sea bass. The filet was as amazing as I thought it would be, tender, rich, and exquisite. We relished each bite of the 4 ounce delight that melted in our mouth to the last; exquisite and gratifying. The sea bass, marinated in miso for 36 hours, was buttery goodness and so incredibly satiating. For dessert, the pink cloud was certainly that with an intense presentation that had dry ice underneath the berry-forward delight that allowed for literal cloud like smoke to give the essence of it floating. One of the best restaurants we have enjoyed in downtown St. Petersburg, Fortu offers a wonderful gastronomic experience that offers the exquisite and nectarous with divine flavors.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I don't feel this review will have much to add to the other reviews folks have posted. Mostly I can confirm that the food is delicious, the drinks are great, our server (Pam) was wonderful, but it's quite pricey and the noise level is pretty severe. On that last note, we had a 5:30 PM reservation on a Friday evening and the volume wasn't bad. It was only as the evening progressed that the ambient noise got louder and we had to raise her voices significantly to hold a conversation.

Yelp
This place was just okay. The service and ambiance were definitely great--super clean and welcoming. The food was undeniably fresh, but it completely lacked flavor. None of the dishes I tried left me wanting more or made me feel like I'd return. I forgot to take a picture of the orange chicken, but just like everything else, it was fresh yet totally bland. I was honestly confused. The desserts, however, were really good, and I'd recommend those. Overall, I'm glad I tried it just to say I did, but I wouldn't come back.

Camille U.

Yelp
The food here is absolutely phenomenal. If this place does not have a Michelin star, it should. The attention to detail, menu choices, and presentation on plates is superb. The ambiance is beautiful, calming, and something to see! Cocktails and wine list are incredible but I recommend their signature espresso martini made with specialty spices garnished on top. Last but not least, the service is impeccable - have requested Petar multiple times. He is so good at what he does, personable, and gives excellent recommendations for any new guests! Frequent this gem often and will continue to!

Yelp
My hubby and I came here for our anniversary. Ambience was moody and sexy. To start, we had the best waitress although I can't remember her name :( they brought us champagne for our anniversary which was sweet. We ended up ordering a ton of food. Everything was very good. My favorite was honestly the milk bread, pork belly bao buns and miso cod. So yummy!! The Wagyu tartare was pretty good, as was the Wagyu and toro hand rolls. We also tried the Japanese A5 strip which seriously just melted in your mouth. Wagyu fried rice was a top favorite too. We got all of their desserts as well, which were good. My favorite was the Ube cheesecake. Also, Sakura blossom drink was stunning!!! Price was pricy- $500 something ish.

Yelp
Where to start? This intimate restaurant has a "big city, sophisticated vibe...prices here however, are NOT " for the faint of heart...lol. That being said...the ambiance, food selection, cocktails and clientele are topnotch! We tried and tasted a large variety of dishes....all beautifully presented and delicious. We left happy with the experience. An excellent review and first impression.

Yelp
Food was delicious, the only I didn't like is that they didn't have a kids menu and I would definitely skip the creamed corn. Everything else was great
google avatar

Brigitte P.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! Food is top notch, the ambiance is intimate yet trendy, wait staff is extremely helpful and knowledgable. If coming here, I recommend you go ALL IN for the food experience. My husband and I got the Tuna Wontons, Potato Mille Feuille, Pork Belly Bao Buns, A5 Wagyu, Japanese sweet potatoes. The Pink Cloud dessert is now my official favorite dessert in St. Pete - light and airy, beautiful presentation and an overall experience. Food: 10000000/5 Price: 3/5 - definitely pricey, but worth it Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cocktails: 5/5 OVERALL: 5/5

Yelp
Expensive but worth it :) delicious food and great drinks. Definitely a nice date night spot. Mood inside is really nice, but I also enjoyed sitting outside on the patio as well. Highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already.

Yelp
We went here on a girls trip as our "fancy dinner" and it was great. The menu is very limited but everything was really good. It's a tapas kinda style place and the portions are small. We all ordered different items off the menu and shared and it was delicious. The vibe is low lighting, quiet, intimate. It's located in a strip where there are other restaurants and clubs near by. Service was good. I doubt I would go back if I find myself in St. Petersburg. I would wanna try a new place.

Yelp
YELPies.... St. Petersburg, FL for work and landed here for dinner with the doctors . Our server Cody was very welcoming and knowledgable about everything on the menu. The atmosphere is very boujie chic cozy . Is that a thing? Well.. I made it a thing! I absolutely loved EVERYTHING we tried. Pan-Asian cuisine with style and flair! Reservations are suggested and come with an open mind if you've never had Pan-Asian. Well..basically sushi in every form and a side of wagyu steak for everything! I took plenty of pics for my YELPies and hope that you make this a stop in this cute little area in St. Pete's in the marina area. YOU WONT REGRET IT! Don't run but, Sashay (cause we are boujie chic ) on over to this spot for some amazing service and even better food

Yelp
A definite must try!!! Very nice decor and ambiance... cozy, comfortable, and elegant all at the same time. The food was, by far, an amazing culinary experience that touched on so many different flavor blending profiles. We had the Milk Bread, Wagyu Gyoza, Wagyu Ribeye, Scallops, Miso Black Cod, Wagyu Fried Rice, and Miso Creamed Corn - and all were delicious!!! Our server, Vanja, helped to create our awesome tasting line up - we took his advice on all of his suggestions and he was SPOT ON! We will definitely go back when in town!!

Yelp
Fortu has been on my list for a while and I'm so glad I finally checked it out! Loved the ambiance and very chic dining spot. The waiter was super friendly and recommended some great items. It is more family style so it's nice to try different items! Everything we ordered was SO good except the snapper was OK. When I come back, I'd want to try the miso cod next time and dessert lol. What I ordered: - Wagyu Fried Rice - Wagyu Gyoza - Miso Chopped Salad - Sweet potato - Grilled corn - Hamachi crudo - Red Snapper
google avatar

Yelp
This was such an amazing experience ! Will def be back ! Came in for a graduation dinner ! I can't remember our waiter but he was great ! He made sure we were taking care of as well ! I won a giveaway with the company so I had a $100 gift card to use and I wish I had another lol that's how good everything was ! For my man course their was a hair on my plate and then did take care of that and was nice enough to make me a new order and I believe one of the managers brought it out and apologized about it ! I really appreciate it ! I work I hospitality so I understand things happen and sometimes we look over it ! We sat outside over looking the water . Street parking was pretty nice to us ! We did go on a Tuesday night and I was still kinda packed but that just tells you they make some good food ! I definitely recommend for any occasion !

Yelp
When you walk in at this downtown restaurant, you could say right away it is an "it" place right now: loud crowd around the bar counter hopefully waiting for a seat, a line of entering visitors, loud cheers and laughter. If you are looking for the quiet dinner, it may not be a best choice. The restaurant statement about Asian and French influences is the best reflected in the wine list which has a beautiful selection of sake and French wines. However, this double influence is not quite present in cuisine. Traditional Shrimp & Lobster Dumplings did not have anything innovative and tasted quite ordinary. The Toro appetizer was a failure for the chef who decided to compliment the most fatty part of the tuna, toro, with the "creamy ponzu" sauce including mayo and olive oil in the quantity exceeding the tuna itself and killing completely the taste of toro. In addition, this culinary disaster had absolutely not fitting in this dish tomatoes. I have not seen anything like that nor in Japan neither in China. Why I gave this restaurant 4 stars in spite of mediocre performance on appetizers? Because their steaks are excellent. Why don't you call the restaurant a Steakhouse , in this case your customers would not be mislead. By the way, our server was great .

Yelp
I was really looking forward to eating at this spot because it's recently been reviewed by one of the big Tampa Bay foodies on Instagram and upon entering, I was taken aback with how beautiful it was because of the ambience, the lighting and just the general feel of the restaurant. I sat down with my friends and waited for two others and our server. Kevin was super attentive and very professional. The chairs were a little squeaky, but I didn't mind. We ordered our drinks and they came out quickly. They were really really good. The bartenders here know what they're doing and extra filthy Tito's martini is just what I needed to start off my meal. We ordered several appetizers, including the edamame. It was delicious. I have to admit, though when the entrées came out. I was a little underwhelmed. The portion sizes were tiny. We had the Wagyu beef. We had the Hamachi Crudo. We had the Seabass, which was amazing. We had the scallops and the sesame sauce that they come in was to die for with bok choy and all the fixings. I took a look at the dessert menu because I was feeling in the mood for something sweet, but nothing really appealed to me. I think the star of the show here was really the Seabass creamy buttery yummy deliciousness. I'm giving it four stars just because of the portion sizes. I do wish that they were bigger but overall, this is a good spot to eat at reservations are always available And I would be back again if only for the appetizers and that Seabass MMMMMMMM

Yelp
Fortu is gorgeous inside! The decor was beautiful. Our service was incredible! Staff was very attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Our server recommended a great drink! Reason for 3 stars was food. Small portions for high prices and mid quality taste. Ordered mini waygu tacos - taste was okay. Ordered pork bao buns, which they advertise as for the table, only 3 in an order. The pork in the boa buns was chewy. It did not melt in your mouth one bit. Hamachi Crudo also was chewy. Prime fillet was also mid. Looked delicious but flavor was lacking. (No sides with a $60 prime fillet). We also ordered the short ribs. Probably the best thing out of everything we ordered but still very mid. Good portion for the short ribs! The waiter recommended Hakko Shita for a drink and it was delicious!!! Cool vibe and great service but don't plan on returning for food.
google avatar

Patricia C.

Yelp
Excellent service, good & atmosphere. Great addition to DTSP. We opted for the Prix Fixe with an order of hamachi Kama & filthy martinis (well done martinis mind you!) and upgraded to the miso cod. Absolutely delicious! Especially liked the tuna tartar (the Ube chips are awesome!) & miso cod (& the martinis and panna cotta)
google avatar

Yelp
Finally a steakhouse in Tampa Bay that actually delivers delicious meats! The deliciousness wasn't limited to just meats though. Everything we had here we really liked. Up first, $18 Kakao Kohi (espresso martini) the only thing missing was the 3 coffee beans. Other than that it was perfect. Also, tried the $18 Kuraun Melon lots of flavor. $10 Shishito peppers were served in a bunch of glaze, but still delicious. $16 Pork belly. Served more Korean style with the nuts ontop. We both ordered $52 prime ribeyes as our entree medium. Cooked to perfection. I love the side Himalayan pink salt and make sure you order the chimichuri sauce! The chimichuri is homemade and bomb. Lastly, the $12 Ube cheesecake was crazy good and I don't even care to ever eat cheesecake. Absolutely give it a try.
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
From the moment you step inside, the ambiance invites you to experience good food! One standout recommendation is the Sakura Blossom cocktail. Delicately crafted, these refreshing beverages is a perfect blend of floral notes and sweetness. And let's not forget about the Ube Cheesecake - a dessert lover's dream come true. This decadent creation is a harmonious fusion of creamy cheesecake goodness with a hint of Asian flair, leaving you craving for more with each bite. Beyond these highlights, Fortu's menu boasts an array of tantalizing dishes, each meticulously prepared to tantalize your senses. The staff was super nice!

Yelp
Fortu is the experience I've been looking for in St Pete. From the dimly lit, modern but warm interior, beautifully sleek decor, down to the top notch service, all the way to exceptional food that bursts with flavors in each and every bite, that just promises to deliver a true fine dining experience! The drinks were excellent, the appetizers to die for (char never tasted better than it does when you order the jalapeño sweet potatoes). The meat cooked to absolute perfection! If only I had, had room for dessert, but the food was so satisfying and filling that i didn't get the chance to try it out! Now parking in dtsp is generally tricky and Fortu is not an exception to that, so do pad your arrival so you can make your reservation in time. The music while nice, tends to run a little loud but I'm guessing it's because of the underground bar around the corner that is extremely loud and hard to drown out. Also, price point is a bit high but it's nowhere near as expensive as some other places I've been and you definitely get your moneys worth. However, prepare to spend a decent amount when you do go. I cannot wait to go back and try other dishes on the menu, and try it out yourself, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I came here for a Galentines dinner with my homegirls, and it was pretty good. The vibe of the place is very dark and romantic so it was perfect for our girls night. Our server was pretty fast and helped a lot with the menu. See my pictures for all of the food we ordered together. All of the food actually tasted amazing. The only things I didn't like was the fact that the portions were really small for the price. I didn't think the food was amazing enough to be costing so much. Another thing with the drinks. They were so small. Be prepared to spend a lot of money here.

Yelp
Color me disappointed. I have been waiting to try this place for months now after relocating here. I hyped it up and fell for the social media hype. The filet was just okay and while cooked to the ordered temperature, I would say the peppercorn cream lacked in seasoning. The fried rice and fried chicken were both good, but I'm from St. Louis where we do fried rice the best. Also, super glad we got the glaze on the side as for lack of a better word, yuck. The miso cod was the star food item of the table. Clumsy me, I knocked the first piece over (I will blame the tiny table) and they quickly brought me a new piece to replace so grateful for that. My drinks were amazing, pricey for the quantity but amazing. Way more ice in the glass than liquor, so they are getting over here. Still good though. The restaurant is much smaller than I thought, so the tables are close and small. The noise level is above moderate, which I'm sure is due to size and closeness of your neighbors. Simply put, I walked out disappointed and told my date we would not be returning. I'm sure they couldn't care less. Oh and beware if booking for two of the tiny table in the back corner crowded by a tree. I refused to sit there and was given a look of how dare you, but they accommodated my move request.

Yelp
Some enchanted evening... We had a great experience celebrating the 25th anniversary of our engagement at Fortu. We wanted a place that not only had impressive food but a romantic ambiance. The lanterns and soft lighting at the tables, as well as the absence of TVs (yay!) enhanced our time there. Our server Kevin was thoughtful and a true professional, folding my husband's napkin again each time he left the table. So many little details are considered at Fortu to make your experience special. The food was stellar. We came for the wagyu ribeye, which was delicious. We shared this as well as several appetizers and sides, so we got to try a variety of their dishes. Sharing is encouraged here. Portions are good for this type of elevated dining experience. We enjoyed the tempura shrimp, the noodles, and the highlight was the potato mille feuille, which is phenomenal and not to be missed! Thank you to our server Kevin and to Fortu for making our special evening memorable.

Yelp
My husband and I finally checked out Fortu, and it's worth the hype!! Feels like a trendy restaurant you'd see in Miami or NYC, with similar prices, but definitely worth it for a date night. A fun vibe and some seats are better than others, but when in doubt you can also just sit at the bar, which looked really nice. Our server was very prompt and professional. We had drinks (a great wine list!) and apps ordered in no time. You definitely could treat the whole menu as a small plate restaurant and split everything with your partner, but we go two starters and then each our own entrée based on our food preferences (I'm a seafood lover, he a steak guy). The hamachi crudo was delicious! A great blend of flavors with a nice tang. We also got the miso cod, listed with the seafood mains, but we loved it as a first course to split (and the size made it right to do so, I'd be disappointed I think if I got this as my main as it would leave me wanting more). It was AMAZING. Cooked perfectly. Speaking of cooked perfectly: my scallops. They recently updated the menu so it's no longer over risotto (something I was happy about, since I loved the new preparation) and instead with a crab and corn salad, which was fantastic!! Would definitely get again, and ranks up there with some other amazing scallops I've had in St. Pete. My husband got one of the steaks, and I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember which one. It was listed as 10oz but felt smaller to him, which ended up working out as he was perfectly full. He got it with the chimichurri sauce that he said was delicious. We got a side of the sweet potatoes, which possibly stole the show. My husband and I fought over them, they were almost like dessert but not too sweet that they couldn't also be a great side. Definitely able to share them, but you won't want to. We couldn't fit dessert, but we're intrigued by the options. I'd definitely recommend this as a date night spot to impress! I wouldn't consider it a steakhouse, but an Asian-inspired small plate restaurant with dishes for anyone to be happy about.

Yelp
Night on the town kind of place. The ambiance, food, and drinks are all quite good. A perfect place for special occasions or maybe a date night, with someone you'd like to keep around for a while. It's upscale and upbeat. The food is creative, tasty and well done. The drinks are unique and go down too easily. The location is perfectly placed for a post-feeding stroll along Beach Dr. or the Pier. So... It won't be a cheap night but it might be a memorable one. That's up to you and the company you bring, of course.

Yelp
What a fun and interesting place. I have dined in every restaurant in that space over the last several decades and I think this is the best one. Beautiful inside, service was top notch and the cocktails were so good. I like the Japanese/Asian theme with items we haven't seen or tried before. The apps are excellent and you could easily order a table of apps and leave satisfied. The orange chicken though while seemingly cliche, was so good. Be sure to try it. I would pass on the A5 Wagyu, our arrived barely warm and was under seasoned, IL Ritorno does it much better. Other than that, everything else was top notch. Have been back and adding it to the rotation

Yelp
New place where ceviche used to be. They have done a great job fixing it up. Be sure to make reservations as they we supper busy. Since we had reservations we were sat right away outside. It was loud but really nice outside. Started with some cocktails. I had the UMAMI OLD FASHIONED 17 Redemption bourbon & rye, mushroom, palm sugat, bonito flakes. Sweet with deep flavors. For a started we had PAN SEARED GYOZA Braised wagyu shoulder, corn silk, shitake jus. This was good but did not knock my socks off. For mains we had the STONE AXE RIBEYE with 14 oz BMS 6, miso koji rub and a side of HOUSE SPECIAL FRIED RICE. Cooked med rare perfectly. So good. Cut it with a spoon! So many great flavors. One of the best steaks we have had in a long time. Service was next level. Cody was awesome. A really great experience.

Yelp
Fortu restaurant is a fresh addition to downtown St Pete, located at the prior Ceviche restaurant in the Ponce De Leon Hotel. I advise reservations on the Tock website/app about one week before your desired date (indoor and patio seating available). The parking situation can be difficult, but street parking and garage parking are nearby. Once you go up the outside stairs and into the main door, you will be transported into a modern, trendy, dimly lit Pan-Asian restaurant. There are about 16 tables or so inside, and bar seating in the center-back of the restaurant. FOOD: 1. Spicy Salmon Crispy Rice (4/5; crispy rice, fermented chili, scallions): The salmon was fantastic with a hint of the fermented chili, but there was too much crispy rice compared to the salmon. This is perfect to be shared by two people (two pieces for each). 2. North Carolina Scallops (2/5; seafood congee, corn relish): This dish was quite salty. Otherwise, it would have 3/5 stars. There are three scallops in this congee (rice porridge). 3. Miso Cream Corn (5/5): I loved this. The flavor was perfectly balanced, not too sweet nor too creamy. It is one of the more popular side dishes. 4. Jalapeño Honey Sweet Potato (3/5): I love the slightly burnt honey taste, but the dish was sweeter than expected. The sweet potatoes had a subtle spicy flavor that didn't outshine the sweetness. It is one of the more popular side dishes. 5. Coulotte Wagyu BMS7 (4/5; shitake-koji aged): A4. I preferred this cut over the Bavette. It is the cap muscle, which is part of the top sirloin butt (or the picanha steak). There is a slight crust around the edges of the cut with a tender chew. 6. Bavette Wagyu BMS9 (4/5; sake washed): A5. This is the bottom sirloin cut, similar to the flank steak. There is a slight crust around the edges of the cut with a tender chew. I also had the fermented chili and roasted garlic butter on the side. The butter wasn't memorable when compared to the Wagyu alone. The service was super! Servers are personable and professional, and they recommend their favorites. The drinks and water never touched the bottom. Would I come back? Oh yes!

Yelp
Excellent service. The music was a little too loud outside. Other than that the lighting was perfect. It wad a colder night and the heaters on the balcony kept us warm. We tried the oysters and the wanton tacos. Oysters were my absolute favorite they were topped with a watermelon soy sauce. We tried all the taco options. My favorite was the salmon. It was also served with avocado. The tuna and beef tartar were great too. The margaritas was great it's served with a giant ice cube and looks more like an old fashioned. But taste and presentation were excellent. Definitely plan to return.

Yelp
When I learned there was a Michelin recognized restaurant in my neighborhood, I had to find an excuse to patronize! Fortu restaurant was a DREAM. From the Sake flight & Shishito Peppers, to the chocolate mousse cake & cocktails everything was exquisite! Our waiter Levi was awesome & it'd be unsound if I didn't mention the aesthetic; the low lighting and lively energy adds to the experience. Between the three of us, we stuck to the Snacks & For The Table dish selections and ordered two sides as filler plates, which ended up being perfect! My personal favorites have to be the Hamachi Crudo, Pork Belly Bao Buns, and out of left field: the Potato Mille Feuille was unlike any other potato side I've had before & the aoli is the perfect form of the sauce... immaculate. And we couldn't resist the chocolate mousse cake at the end of our meal; im so glad we went all out because it was insane. I will note the stir fry noodles & fried rice were good but are definitely not a must! The selection of sake was extensive & the knowledge of the staff was amazing. I can't wait to return & try the signature dishes

Yelp
The inside was beautiful. The tables were small but it didn't matter since the restaurant was more of a small plates vibe. Our server was very consistent and attentive, he had very good suggestions on the menu. We tried an array of things.

Yelp
Top tier, 5 stars, def recommend! Let's start off with drinks - I got the blossom drink. It was good and sweet, my only complaint was that it came in a tiny glass and was quite literally 3 sips. We ordered the four course meal plus extra stuff off the menu. Pork belly bao buns were so good and fluffy and you had to fix it up yourself. The shrimp and gyoza was tasty. The scallops were cooked to perfection. The glazed carrots were sooo good. My first time trying wagyu did not disappoint- the Wagyu fried rice and wagyu ribeye was delicious!!!! Lastly the dessert - we were so full but then came out the ube cheesecake and we could not stop eating it. Reservations were needed and service was good. Def recommend you check this place out!

Yelp
Had a date night here and we had a great time and enjoyed everything! Food: We tried the wagyu gyozas, wagyu tartare, toro hand roll, tuna tacos, potato dish, and wagyu Ribeye. Everything was so good! The ribeye was delicious, I definitely recommend getting that, it is a large portion to share between two people. I also really enjoyed the wagyu tartare and the hand rolls. We also tried the ube cheesecake for dessert and enjoyed that as well, the crispy outside added a nice crunch, and the ube flavor was great. For drinks I tried the geisha martini and sakura blossom which were both enjoyable, was not a fan of the matcha cocktail but they easily swapped that out for an espresso martini. Would come back! Great service, great food, nice atmosphere

Yelp
Chose this place for a more upscale Christmas dinner with my parents due to its proximity to Enchant at Tropicana Stadium. Although, the website indicates it is an Asian fusion restaurant I think they are trying to position themselves as more of a surf and turf type of place. It's only been open for 3 weeks according to the general manager (GM). FOOD: Appetizers: Fuji Apple Burrata Mille Feuille We had 3 entrees which were well-executed. Miso Black Cod Seared Salmon Skirt Steak A5 Wagyu Side: creamed corn Fuji Apple Burrata: more artistic than anything. Mille Feuille also well-executed but I would have preferred the sauce on the side since it being immersed in the sauce for a long period of time could make it soggy. My parents had the fish dishes. As I said earlier well-executed. Portions were small for the price. The wagyu is more towards what I envision it should be. Tender, juicy, buttery. I'm wondering if I should buy some and make it at home to really understand how I want to enjoy it. The creamed corn was large enough that we could share it. Overall the meal was good. I do have a bone to pick about the sparkling water - it should not be 18 dollars. This is obscene. We didn't order any alcohol since none of us drink so I don't know if this was where they thought to charge us more but the price was outrageous. Service was good. Friendly. We had an overall good experience. I did tell the GM that they should try to include more Asian elements. There was no rice LMAO. I can do without rice at a meal but this was not a negotiable for my parents. At any rate, this is a business review. Let me stay on task. Great place for a date. Music is fresh, modern. I can see this as a place for professionals to have a business dinner by the water in downtown St. Pete. The bar list menu is gratuitous so it would be a nice place to get a drink, if that's what you like. Parking is street parking. There are some paid parking lots approximately 1.5 blocks away so it could be a pain to walk. Just have your date drop you off so you don't ruin your Manolos. I didn't notice any valet services. Ambience is more warm and cozy. Lighting is a bit yellow but it leant to the oriental vibe. The music wasn't so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. It will be interesting to see how they evolve. The restaurant business is tough. Not sure if I would return - for these prices I'll be looking to eat Michelin stars but according to the GM St. Pete didn't want to pay to have places reviewed by Michelin. Also, the portions did not justify the price, in my opinion, but the food was well-executed at least. In summary: if you're looking for a hearty meal this isn't your place. If you want to take someone on a date it's a place you can consider definitely for drinks and small bites. I did see some causally dressed people there but hey, they're probably the wealthiest people in the restaurant so no judgement. Come one, come all!

Yelp
I'm not even sure I have words for how amazing this meal was. Firstly, I am not a steak person but I couldn't hold back from getting the filet and boy am I glad I did. 3 of us did the prix fixe meal. We had tuna tartare, waygu tartare, bao buns, wagyu tacos, shrimp tempura, steaks. Soooo much good food. We tried all 3 of the desserts and rhe Ube cheesecake stole the show for me. This is hands down my favorite restaurant in St Pete. Run.... Don't walk.

Yelp
From the service, to the ambience, and the food, everything about our experience for the night was fantastic. We absolutely devoured the potato mille fuille appetizer - just a friendly tip to not get rid of the sauce that comes with it if you decide to order the wagyu. That sauce is good on that and their fried rice! :)

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place! And while it's really good, and I will come back, it is extremely pricey for what it is and what you get. This place, for the price point, should provide a fine dining experience. The space is beautifully designed, but where we were seated it was loud and cramped with people ordering at the bar and waitstaff trying to squeeze by. Our waiter was fantastic, and at one point my husband mentioned that and said our waiter should work in a high end restaurant. Hmmm...I thought we were at one. Yep, definitely did not feel like that, but our waiter was great. The food is good, but as other reviews have mentioned, the portions are small. I love tasting menus so I'm use to small portions, but this isn't a tasting menu and they were pretty comparable in size. The ingredients are really high quality, so I understand that they need to account for that in the price, but there were no accompaniments to the main - just a piece of meat or fish. Ordering sides (like in a steakhouse) is a must. With regard to the food, often we love the appetizers or small plates and then are disappointed by the mains. It was the opposite here, the appetizers were a bit meh, meaning good, but nothing special. However, the miso cod and the skirt steak were fantastic. The flavors and quality were outstanding. I enjoyed my meal here, but at almost $300 for two, I'm not sure it's really worth it. Also for context, we do spend $300+ per person on tasting menus and think it is worth it, so it not about the money, but what you get for it from both a unique food and experience perspective.

Yelp
10/10 experience. I made the reservation for the wrong Friday night and they still accommodate my big loud party of 8. The food was great and the place is beautiful. I would go again anytime happily.
