The 8 Best Restaurants & Bars In North Park 2024

"When you first walk into Fortunate Son, your eyes might be overwhelmed. But all the decor details come together in a managed chaos that makes the space feel warm and soothing. There’s a metal dragon door handle at the entrance, green velvet banquette seating, hanging red lanterns, mismatched flatware on floating shelves, and a fireplace that just so happens to be in the mouth of a huge stone beast in the middle of the space.  A few orders of crab rangoon with sweet chili sauce and a couple plates of lo mein and General Tso’s chicken are enough to halt any game of I Spy your table is playing though. If you’re all ready to go out after the meal, grab a drink at the nearby apothecary-themed Polite Provisions or Swan Bar’s covered patio." - ligaya malones

Such a fun night. Once we got our table they sat us near the fire feature and it very cool we had ordered Fried rice, Orange chicken, Egg Rolls & deep fried tofu. Very large portions and a great value. The interior decor was well done.

Went here with a friend, we’ve been meaning to try it. They will ask you if it’s your first time so they can explain the menu to you. Everything comes in big portions so it’s meant to share, so it’s just orange chicken with no side or just fried rice with no side. We got the orange chicken, the fried rice and the danny noodles. I was not a fan of the danny noodles but my friend loved it. The fried rice was good, nice texture and a good color. The orange chicken was the star of the show for me. Aside from the orange chicken, the food didn’t blow me out of this world or anything. This is a good spot if you’re in the area, but if you’re not around North Park, this is a place where you try once and probably never really go out of your way to go again. Service was amazing, waited was super nice and helpful. It’s definitely a little pricey but if you portion it correctly it’s worth the money. Atmosphere was perfect, had this cool red lighting. Great at night.

A cute little Chinese spot on Adams Ave in the North Park Neighborhood. The decor inside is amazing. It takes you straight to a mix of a street corner in hung Kong and the set of big trouble in little China. The wait staff was very fast and super friendly. The food was solid but just needed a little extra punch. It’s certainly elevated Chinese-American classics but it’s right in the edge of being a bit more. We got the cabbage, Dan Dan noodles, crispy tofu, and egg rolls. The crispy tofu was the stand out. So flavorful and crisp. Overall I’ll definitely visit again whenever I crave Chinese.

- An unfortunate Experience at Fortunate Son I want to note that I typically avoid writing negative reviews, as I believe that every business has its strengths and weaknesses. However, my experience at Fortunate Son was disappointing enough that I felt compelled to share my honest feedback. I recently visited Fortunate Son Chinese Restaurant with high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. While the ambiance was pleasant and our server was friendly and attentive, the food fell short of expectations. The Kung Pao chicken was a major disappointment, tasting suspiciously like frozen chicken. The fried rice was also a miss, with a mushy texture that lacked flavor. On the other hand, the ginger lemonade was a refreshing highlight. The biggest drawback was the lengthy wait time, which didn't justify the subpar food quality. For a similar price point, I'd prefer to visit Panda Express, which consistently delivers flavorful and satisfying meals. Overall, while Fortunate Son shows promise with its welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, the kitchen could step up its game to compete with other Chinese restaurants in the area.

This spot offers an incredible dining experience, blending an amazing atmosphere with stunning decor that makes you feel immersed in its charm. The food is outstanding, with flavors that will leave you wanting more, and the staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring a great time. However, they don’t take reservations, so be prepared for a potentially long wait before being seated. Despite that, the overall experience is definitely worth it!

Chef Isidra 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Every single dish I had was amazing. The decor was cute. The atmosphere was nice. I ate a lot but also ended up using the cute take out containers.

Loved the ambience of this place. Definitely does get packed during dinner time. However, I thought the food was okay. I did enjoy the cucumber salad. There wasn't nothing special about the food. Would recommend to try this place due to the ambience, but other than that I think you can find better Chinese food elsewhere.

This is the cutest little place and very popular by the crowds. Their Orange Chicken was a little too vinegary for my taste but still better than a lot of places that are just sticky-sweet. I might bring guests here because the ambiance and service are top notch but it won't be my go-to joint for Chinese food.
