By far one of the best hole in the wall restaurants I've ever been to! The shrimp was absolutely divine and fresh, and the rice didn't even need any soy sauce or additives. The chicken chow mein was flavorful with huge chunks of chicken. They also gave us some starter soups and the egg drop soup was delicious! Finally, the green tea was delicious and warm. The service overall was fantastic and it has a very cozy vibe. Highly recommend!

Came here with a party of 6 for dinner on Chinese New Year. Got seated right away even though our party was not fully there yet. I wanted an authentic family-style Chinese meal (with a lazy Susan of course) and this place did not disappoint. We ordered the orange chicken, beef chow fun, chicken fried rice, lamb clay pot, Szechuan eggplant, and honey walnut shrimp. The portion sizes and prices were extremely reasonable. Highly recommend the honey walnut shrimp, orange chicken, eggplant, and beef chow fun! I’m Chinese and have eaten at plenty of establishments throughout my life time and I will in fact be coming again. The workers all spoke Cantonese so that tells me enough of what I need to know about the authenticity of the food here. Free parking as well with their own little parking lot!

The food was so good and authentic. The service was impeccable! Served us our soup in small separate bowls when we ordered a bowl to share. Constantly refilled our drinks. Checked in often. And also packed our leftovers in take out containers for us. The inside of the restaurant could use some TLC but definitely gives the place character. Would definitely come again.

I came here with two friends on a late and not busy Sunday evening. John was our server and he was quite an exceptional and excellent server. Service was fast, efficient and polite. The food was amazing. Heavy-hitters such as the Honey Walnut Shrimp have nothing to envy other places. Even classics such as Mongolian Beef were delicious and had a new twist to themselves. Their cream cheese wontons were otherworldly and exceptional and the Beef Chow Fun (like Pad See Ew, but Chinese, meaning flat noodles with veggies and some type of protein) was a welcome addition to our family-style dinner. Highly-recommended place if you're in the area. Also, there's good parking and the lot is easily accessible. The location of the restaurant is in an intersection too, so it's hard to miss.

Great service and most of the vegetable dishes are vegan. The hot and sour soup has egg and it's vegetarian. Food is a little bland but well made nonetheless. The lunch special is a decent value - $16.50 for a main course, plus tea, choice of rice, and the soups of the day. Atmosphere is low key and cozy. Free parking lot.

We enjoyed half Peking duck, sautéed squid with snow peas, and sizzling rice soup. The dishes were authentic and delicious, and service was excellent. The parking lot was full on a Saturday night but we found a parking space at a nearby residential street.

We wanted to have an early dinner as a family and our only goal was to eat dumpling. When we went in and saw the menu, we wanted to order everything on the menu, but we ordered Hargov, ShangHai Xiao Long Bao, Pan fried dumplings, steam dumplings, egg roll and shared it. Each dishes we tasted was delicious in its own way, but my favorite was ShangHai Xiao Long Bao.

Great little place to get good food and friendly service. The best part for LA is they have a parking lot! And that's a win. FOOD- all has been good...HarGow / shrimp chow mein, fried rice , broccoli has been excellent. Good amount of shrimp and always tastes fresh and not gummy as in some places that the food has sat forever. SERVICE--you're immediately served fried wontons with sweet n sour sauce and hot tea. We've had 2 occasions where service was slow but they make it up because they'll give you a cup of soup on the house--not a norm but it's happened to us and we love their corn egg soup very delicious. It's now a must request for us. AMBIENCE--the restaurant is clean, the parking lot has been safe and the bathrooms are clean. The outside can be deceiving don't let that deter you. While visiting my daughter we found this place as our first Chinese restaurant and now it's become our go to for Chinese food and the service is always very friendly!

OUTSTANDING. Fortune House is an old fashioned family-owned and operated hidden gem offering dine-in, takeout and delivery. Just try it. Thank me later! This restaurant went beyond the call of duty when helping my family and friends during the pandemic, I will never forget their kindness. Remember that one month when there wasn't a can of corn available in California? Or TP?! Or an egg?! We had to get creative and come together as a community to get through it. And we did! Enter Fortune House, a local hero for my family.;) When fortune House found out my elderly family member loved corn, this restaurant put together a special box (for optimum soup transport!) and assisted me in ordering huge takeout sweet corn soups for my happy members. Pro tip: order directly with the family here for the best deals, discounts and services. I love Cantonese special dishes here, everything is good. Generous portions. Delicate homemade sauces. Delicious family-style meals. Superb service. Try the Peking duck, braised vegetables, soft steamed dumplings, succulent char sui, hearty Cantonese soups and so much more. We lived together through a tough time together! The chefs, servers and family at Fortune House will ask me how my elderly family member is doing and I am delighted to say great and thanks in response. I've overheard the family offering great advice about the menu and the city in multiple languages to everyone else too. . At the beginning of the pandemic, we saw people promoting violence in our communities, sometimes while waving a flag, sometimes making a racist or hateful comment. I wanted to grab that flag and hand it to the people who were saving our lives and making our communities a better, safer and more welcoming place. Ambiance: it's an old fashioned Cantonese restaurant, private parking lot in front of the establishment, spacious inside and comfortable sofa seats Service: very friendly and attentive, served food and cleaned table fast, showing great hospitality Food & Drink: numerous items on their menu and they have lunch specials Crackers - **** complimentary fried crispy wonton skins, with sweet dipping sauce, recommend Paradise Desire - *** combination of dim sum, Har Gow, Siu Mai, Char Siu Bao, Steam Chicken Dimpling Cream Cheese Wonton - *** Crispy fried wonton stuffed with cream cheese Peking Duck - **** Crispy Roast Duck carved and wrapped into bun serving with scallion and hoi sin sauce, can order half or whole, not necessary the authentic taste, but still solid quality and recommend Thai Iced Tea - **** bold taste, recommend Price: generous portions and affordable prices, about $30 per person for a very fulfilling meal

Came in for dinner and while the service was quite pleasant, our food was not. Sad to say that most tasted bland and the meats were old. I got their roast duck noodle soup, soup was bland and the pieces of duck were mostly bones and not fresh. Food is somewhat overpriced for what it is. I would preferably go to Monterey Park or San Gabriel area for better Chinese food.

I love it. The service was terrific as was the wonton soup and the noodles. I really enjoy good wonton soup and this wonton soup hit the mark as did the noodles. I look forward to returning.

We finally found a Chinese food restaurant in LA!! Recently drove past this place with my aunt and she told me her and my great aunt ate here a lot years back. Tonight my partner and I decided we really wanted to have Chinese and I remembered this place. We were very satisfied tonight with our choice!! We ordered the green beans, lamb, fried rice, and orange chicken. All weee very yummy, I appreciated the hint of spice with the green beans and the lamb was a first for having lamb prepared the way it was, and it was so yummy! Definitely want to try this place again and eat in for the full experience!

This place has always been our favorite go-to. Had both takeout and eaten in at the restaurant and both have been pleasant experiences. Still the best Mongolian beef we've ever had!

I had a great experience at Fortune House. We were craving typical Chinese food. I always see this "house" driving down Olympic and San Vicente. It's been there for years! We walked in and sat at a booth. The server was extremely nice and made us feel welcomed. We ordered many dishes and took most of it home. It's great food to satisfy your Chinese food cravings. I will definitely come back!

It had a B rating! You know that's on point. The sweet & sour sauce is spectacular. It's what you think of when you think of classic Chinese American food your mom and dad used to take you out for on Friday nights. The noodles are those lovely orange ones that are a little thicker than Panda. So good. Can't forget the tea, and wontons with sweet & sour. That's a good indicator of good food. I'd come back here, even if they got an A rating again! It's greasy, salty, savory, sweet. It's everything you want. It made me feel good to find somewhere that scratched the itch.

Great service and tasty dishes. My personal favorites are the mapu tofu and fish in black bean sauce. There's quite a few vegetarian options and service is fast. Best Chinese food in the area.

Holy smokes was this place busy! We stopped in on Christmas Eve and there was a constant flow of people. All tables were full and the door dash, or whatever system, keeping dinging orders. There was a constant line of people ordering/picking up to go. The parking lot was packed. That told me everything I needed to know! We found a pay by the hour parking lot at the Vinz on the next street up. The service was okay. Not terrible given the circumstances but not great. We were seated pretty quickly but didn't get drinks for almost 20 minutes. The food was great tho. We ordered cream cheese wontons x2, house fried rice, chow mein x2, orange chicken (not spicy as all), broccoli beef and sweet and sour pork. This was enough for all 8 of us (4 adults and 4 big kids) and we cleared everything. We were so hungry that I literally took no photos and just enjoyed the night with the family!

The duck is my absolute favorite. It comes with buns and a delicious sauce. I usually get this with jasmine rice or shrimp fried rice, it makes for a delicious dinner! I did a Yelp check-in for an order of free cream cheeses wontons. Overall, the food is great. I've ordered this dish a few times and it has been consistently delicious

Great place for Chinese food in the Hollywood/mid- Wilshire area. We came here on a weekday night, and there's a parking lot in the front. Finally found a place with good Chinese food nearby, instead of having to travel all the way to 626 area. They gave us free wonton chips with a sweet and sour sauce that was delicious. We ordered the Peking duck half and they cut the duck at your table, and it comes with pieces of soft buns. We also ordered the mushroom with chicken and the mushroom was extremely juicy and exploded with flavor in your mouth. The beef chow fun was also very delicious. The only thing is that the dishes are on the heavier/greasier side because a lot of what we ordered is stir fried. Overall, this was a great find for Chinese food nearby so we don't have to travel as far anymore!

Hands down this has to be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in LA! Finally after trying different places and being disappointed Fortune house came through! One thing i will say is that i do wish the portions were a bit more. We ordered for three people one of those being a man and we felt a little let down with how much food was given. Not sure if it's different when you dine in, than when you do takeout. But, nonetheless we made it work and everything was delicious! Not pictured were the egg rolls, we got two orders and they really hit the spot as an appetizer. We'll definitely order from here again and we'll try to go in person to compare the portions.

Fast delivery and good food. Probably one of my favorite go to Chinese delivery places. I order directly and food is normally delivered within 30 minutes. Only reason I giving 4 and not 5 stars is on a few occasions a dish/order was not correct and I feel prices are higher even when ordering directly from the restaurant.

The food was delicious. Not oily or salty. The duck had a lot of meat in it. A lot of places give you a lot of skin and bones. Highly recommended and will come back again soon! Waiter was awesome and checked with us if the food was to our liking. Nice and quiet dining area.

Especially for the price this is a good spot if you're on the west side and craving dim sum. The har gow was good but most pieces had broken wrappers. Loved the orange chicken! Great flavor and cooked perfectly. They also have jook (congee/rice porridge) which not too many places have around here.

It's not fancy fancy Chinese food- but it's good satisfying greasy (because I order those type of dishes!!!) comforting Chinese food that is always open and ready to feed you when you are hungry. I checked in on Yelp and received the cream cheese wontons. Greasy because that's what I like to order-- pork chop fried and salty- excellent! Fat is on the sides, you may peel or slice off as you wish. King pao chicken tasted fresh and like it was white meat. Kiddo loved it. Pork buns soft steamed and fresh. Huge Shu Mai. Hot and sour soup delicious. I will return next time I come to the tar pits or Museum. Plenty of parking lot. Service fast. Extra napkins. Water and tea. Wonton skins free on table upon sitting down. Check in on Yelp for the cream cheese complementary won tons. My bill 71.00. Rice was 7.00 a bowl. I had 3 bowls since there were 3 of us. Next time perhaps share a bowl. Dishes were supposed to be lunch time before 5 pm. One was a dinner size (you may choose if before 5 pm) since my two kids were sharing. Dinner Kung Pao was 19.9. Lunch pork chop was 17.9. Lunch came with a soup and white rice. You may choose brown rice too. Lots of large table party available and booths inside. Quiet. Two stalls in bathrooms. Staff speaks English and Chinese. Walls are thin, so I can hear about their weekend gossip or which table order is coming up... etc... from the kitchen. The kiddo is also taking mandarin lessons and she was giggling. Overall, eat here. Salty, tasty, hot, fast service. Friendly. Delicious. Good portions.

Okay place for Chinese food. Main thing is they close late. So okay for a bind. Service is fine. We prefer Jade wok nearby but they close early.

Ordered from Door Dash, food is just ok. Cream cheese wontons were barely fried and fried shrimp was a bit too done. Main complaint: no napkins, utensils or fortune cookies! Wont order from them again.

I had hesitations initially before I walked in but I guess never judge a book by its cover. This place is pretty good, they serve you green tea right off the bat. I went for the orange chicken, which was really good. It had a smoky aftertaste which I thoroughly enjoyed. Ambiance is great, with Chinese instrumental music playing overhead. Overall a great place, I'd come back.

Don't get me wrong. This place has the best Won Ton Soup on the planet, but they Orange Chicken is an abomination: pieces way too large, absolutely no Orange taste, not spicy at all, meat VERY dry, way overcooked (almost wood like). Some well meaning chef needs Orange chicken lessons from Panda Express. I'll continue to order only the soup.

This place is fire! We have lived a few blocks away for the past 4 years. Today is our first time trying Fortune and we are in love. We ordered half a peking duck, soup dumplings, fried chicken wings and har gow. I will be a regular now.

"Old School" Chinese restaurant. I've only ordered takeout, I have not eaten in. This is my go-to Chinese spot in LA. Steak with Black Bean Sauce, Kung-Pow Chicken, Cashew Chicken, Steak and Broccoli, Corn Soup, Eggplant, all great. Classic dishes done well.

Solid takeout. Ordered the Yang Chow fried rice and orange chicken. Easy weeknight staple.

Delicious authentic Chinese food. We were really impressed with the dishes we ordered many choices to choose from. The inside was nicely decorated with a TV and many tables. The staff was super friendly and would check to see if we're satisfied, will come back!

This is my go-to for take out. I've been coming here consistently for the past 8 years. I never wrote a review...because I didn't want them to get so busy that my take out would take longer for delivery. Soooo. The food is great. Always fresh and actually tastes different. It's not oily and greasy. The food is actually good. When I don't feel like cooking and want some comfort food, I order from them. The delivery is quick and the portions are huge. Overall---my go to for Chinese take out

Fortune House is an old school Chinese restaurants harking back to the 1970's. It is very reminiscent of my childhood Chinese food that I sometimes long to enjoy again. It is not Taiwanese, Shanghainese, Hunan or Sichuan which are now the more common Chinese-style restaurants in Southern California. Traditional and favorite Cantonese dishes can primarily be found here from dim sum items, moo goo gai pan, broccoli beef, honey walnut shrimp, sweet and sour pork, and even whole Peking duck. I came to Fortune House for one of their lunch specials which is a little pricey post pandemic at $14.25 and $15.95. The lunch special comes with hot and sour soup which was spot on. They even serve complimentary fried noodle chips with sweet and sour sauce which you don't see much anymore anywhere. I ordered their fish fillet with vegetables and they had no problem in serving it with black bean sauce. It was absolutely delicious and amazingly satisfying! With so many out of business, if you are looking for traditional Cantonese food, Fortune House fits that bill nicely. The place is a little dated, but very clean, comfortable and well maintained. Service was also friendly and very good.

This place is trash, I ordered at 526 and called at 602 at which point they had not received my order despite receiving an email confirmation. While I was on the phone with them they said oh wait we just got it. Then my food was at my door in 7 minutes so either they were lying or they were lying. Opened my food and there were ZERO sauce packets I.e: soy sauce but there were 4 fortune cookies. I called and they said you have to go to that section of the online ordering site if you want soy sauce. It should be noted that the part of the website they were referring me to doesn't exist. Terrible customer service.

Fortune House used to be one of our go-to restaurants for a good (never great) Chinese meal of reasonable value in a comfortable, quiet setting, but sadly no more. The portions that were generous have shrunk to inadequate and the prices are now completely out of line for what you get. In addition, they have again lost their A health rating. Never going back!

When you can't make it to the SGV, this place is pretty good! -Peking Duck: They serve them with the buns! I prefer the buns to the pancakes. They also carve the bird tableside. The skin was fatty and crispy...so good...mmmmm -Yang Chow Fan: Not a fan. The rice didn't really have any good umami flavor. -Fish Fillet with Vegetables: I think this was what it was called, it was in a white wine sauce and came with baby bok choy and was super tasty. A bit on the garlicky side, if that's a problem for you, not for me though. Yum!

Lately the service is standoffish and minimal. The food quality is going downhill as well. I recently bought a chicken dish with vegetables, and the chicken tasted more like fish than chicken. It was edible, but not very enjoyable. Diverse and tasty food!

We are late owls and usually cannot find good place to eat after 9pm. This one is good that is close late and we decided to go. There is a parking lot for customers so we don't have to find or pay for parking. And there are only 2 people serving, which is just enough to cover the request after 9pm. People still come and pick up the order after 9. We are the only ones who are dining inside. We only order one full duck for 2 male adults and that is enough. The waiter is nice enough to offer us free soup for free since we are the only table inside at night. And about 15 minutes, the duck is ready, the other guy cuts it in front of us. It is too fulfilling and we pack the rest to go. The service is average, but extremely friendly with a smiling face. They are Cantonese speaking and too bad, I don't use that language at all. A late night explore and we discovered a treasure, not only the duck, but also the friendly service. Will come back again soon.

I feel bad about this low score, especially since some of the other reviewers seem to love the place. Maybe I was just there on an off night, but I was pretty disappointed with my experience here. I visited on a Thursday evening in August. I ordered the chicken fried rice ($15.95) for dine-in. And it was just remarkably bland. Even with the liberal addition of soy sauce (provided at the table), I still found myself not enjoying the meal. The one positive is that the restaurant provides you with some a few fried wontons with sweet-and-sour sauce for dine-in visitors. I got so bored with my chicken fried rice that I started dunking it in the sweet-and-sour sauce, just to experience taste again. But in general, I'm a card-carrying member of the Clean Plate Club. And I couldn't finish this plate. I can't see myself giving them another try.

Excellent Chinese food, truly authentic. This was our first time here and we were extremely surprised at how good the food was. Service was excellent and highly responsive. We ordered Peking Duck, Seafood Tofu Combination, Snow Peas, and Mu Shu Vegetables. All dishes were excellent and the Peking duck superb. Truly authentic Chinese food. It's a hole in the wall with the best food. Definitely coming back!!!

We have always had excellent service accompanied by mouth watering dishes. We also like the ambience! Every dish, is prepared upon your order, so don't expect fast food! The wait is worth it!

Still in shock to be honest. Ordered shu mai and it arrived RAW and UNDERCOOKED. Pretty damn unacceptable and frankly something I've never seen from a restaurant before, at least in recent memory. Avoid this place at all costs.

Food was bland, basic, and less than average. Boring is a good word. Fried noodles snack--old and on the verge of rancid; with a sweet (not sour) dipping sauce; hot mustard needed to be asked for! Won Ton Soup was OK...though the presence of floating shrimp in the broth made for an overly fishy/harbor aroma. Chicken Egg Foo Young wasn't much to write home about (not fully crispy on the outside, so the minimal gravy started to soften the patty until it was more mushy). Chicken Chow Fun was OK, but more oily than flavorful. Overall atmosphere (1-1/2 hrs before closing) was leftover 80s neon (electric blue, flashy lavender, turquoise, pinks), dirty tables that needed replacement 20 years ago, too-bright LED ceiling flood light bulbs, and the slow trickle of to-go orders and food delivery pick-ups. In-restaurant customers were few and far-between, looking like regulars from days gone by. Don't expect high cuisine, nor traditional Cantonese, Szechuan, or even Taiwanese. Service was passable, but non-existent after entrees were brought, since closing-time duties called and we should have been satisfied with food. (Water refills had to be waited on and solicited, as were to go boxes and the check. Sadly, the Chicken Egg Foo Young to go was so unforgettable that it go thrown away 2 weeks later after being forgotten in the fridge.) Fortune House may need a fresh batch of fortune cookies and/or a different tarot card reading! But right now, it was a forgettable throwback that lost its way to much of anything Chinese.

I've ordered from Fortune House for delivery about 4-5 times now, and each time has been reliable and delicious. Seriously, this is the happiest kind of comfort food. It's Chinese-meets-Angeleno flavors (e.g., braised green beans with a few slices of jalapeño). Peking duck: If you're AAPI, you probably have memories of eating this with family as a kid. You can treat yourself with a half Peking duck and get 6 bao to enjoy on your own. Braised green beans: A must-have, so flavorful, with minced garlic throughout Eggplant: Also delicious, great to pair with white rice It's AAPI Heritage Month. Support an Asian restaurant!

BEST PLACE FOR PEKING DUCK. We ordered peking duck for Christmas 2020 and it was amazing. We pick up at their location and duck was hot. When we came home I just warm it in oven when we were ready to eat. Duck was crispy, juicy and very flavorful. They gave us a nice gift, Chinese calendar. They also packed it nicely in aluminum box with 2 levels. 1st level had duck meat and 2 nd level had bones with meat. Many places dont put bones which had plenty of meat but this place is very honest!

For takeout- Delicious no frills classic American Chinese food in every sense of the term. Honey Walnut shrimp was delicious, as expected based on other reviews. I'd be curious to know what their dim sum is like.
