I think I've been to Foundation enough that (1) it's time to write a review and (2) I am a fan. You'll discover the bar walking down Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, there's typically a chalk board sign posted out front recommending you check out the space/bartenders and a few patio seats. Otherwise, the inconspicuous stairs leading down to the speakeasy style cocktail bar have no signage. Friday and Saturday nights are typically slammed, sometimes with a line out the door. However, my word of advice, visit on Sunday! They open at 4pm, they have their standard cocktail list for $9 (regularly $11) and they have a rotating menu from Longleaf Swine BBQ (highly recommend) popup. You'll almost always be able to find a seat at the bar, which improves the experience exponentially as you'll be able to chat with the bartenders (as long as it's not too busy) and watch them in their element.
Since they have a seasonal menu, their cocktails rotate. If you're never been, I'd recommend trying one of their seasonal drinks, since they are all fantastic. If nothing sounds great (doubtful), you can request a custom made cocktail. But, if you're a regular, you may just keep returning for their amazing whiskey sour (the best in downtown Raleigh). I also highly recommend the South Side, King's Mountain Gimlet or the Daiquiri. And if all else fails, they have an incredible list of bourbon, whiskey, moonshine and vodka, a couple bottles of wine and draft beer.
