"Some say this low-key Berkeley bakery has the best croissants in the Bay Area, rivaling even those of much-loved Tartine Bakery. The ham-and-cheese croissant is renowned for its flaky, buttery exterior and savory insides, while the pain au chocolate is unrivaled in the area. There's usually a line but it moves quickly, due to an efficient staff and customer base who knows what to order." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff

"The East Bay refuses to be bested when it comes to croissants. Try to tell someone from Berkeley to go to Tartine, and they’ll say they have Fournée. Frank Sally is a former instructor at the San Francisco Baking Institute, and his layers are textbook. Several varieties sell out fast, but the ham and egg croissant, shaped like a cup and sprinkled with chives, is a heavenly one-handed breakfast." - Dianne de Guzman, Becky Duffett

It truly is unbelievable what they can create in this incredibly small bakery. We picked up a dozen different items all delicious. You cannot go wrong stopping here for a sweet treat. Only advice is to get here earlier in the day than we did as they sell out of so much. The breads are beautiful (works of art) and incredibly flavorful, most make using Levain dough. Wowee on the Meyer Lemon Shortbread - wished I had ordered 2 of those. Scones were amazing and so was the chocolate croissant. We walked around the corner and sat on a bench and enjoyed.

Our most favorite bakery ever!! We’ve tried their Pain au Chocolat, Traditional Croissants, Walnut Coriander scones, Paris Brest - they all are very well done with the perfect consistency and ideal sweetness! Saturday mornings, there’s a long queue.. It’s recommend going there after 11 am, it moves fast.

This place is special. The farmers bread is heavenly. I routinely take as many loaves on the plane ride home to Oregon as humanly possible. If you wish to partake in a Morning Bun - get there early. I bought the last one at 9:00 a.m. on a weekday. Go earlier if it’s the weekend. I would have photoed the ham and cheese croissant, but alas, I devoured it as soon as I removed it out of the paper bag. Hints of rosemary, savory ham and cheese - a simple pleasure I wish I could enjoy more often. This bakery is not to missed. GO EARLY!

This place is one of the best bakeries in the East Bay. Great selection and variety of French pastry. Can’t miss! Worth the wait in line that moves pretty quick. Nice benches around to enjoy your pastry.

Google
I’m a big almond croissant girlie and I think Fournee made my favorite almond croissant that I’ve ever had. Just be prepared to wait in line.

Wow beautiful and flavorful pastries. The croissants were perfectly flaky, and the fillings had great flavors. It’s one of the top bakeries in the Bay Area. There is a line for sure - but it’s worth a wait!

The short: good but overrated and overpriced for their pastries (e.g. almond croissant) but great teff and sesame bread. Service has not been great with a particularly snobby experience the first time we went. You'll hate me for being the contrarian to most other reviews, but fournee unfortunately doesn't live up to the hype for me. It's good, don't get me wrong. Better than average i'd say. but not stand in line, inhale my pastry without breathing and bring all my friends good. Came in with high expectations for "the best almond croissant in the bay" and for the chez panisse alum reputation. We've been twice in the last year, the first an awful experience I would've left a 2 star for due to snobby service and a stale tasting croissant, but this time slightly redeemed itself with standard service, an edible almond croissant, and a tasty and unique teff and sesame loaf I would actually go back for. Details from last time: The first time we came about a year ago was awful. Mostly because the service. We asked if it was possible to heat up our pastries because we were on the road and had no where to rebake as is our standard for refreshing pastries. The response was a look of a disgust and "we don't do that here", like they were so great that they didn't stoop so low as to offer service to customers. I could see if it were busy or if this were still COVID times, but this indicated to me that they are one of the chefs / businesses that say we do things 1 way and you like it or not. Which is fine for some, not my cup of tea. This time: Standard service with the mistake of leaving out the 2nd almond croissant we ordered. We weren't charged so won't give them too much negative. Almond croissant was ok. Tons of butter making a rustic rather than refined light/airy style we've tried at other places like bree'osh in montecito. Frangipane was not super sweet which was a plus but still very buttery. Too much so for me. I love rustic style (like Gold Coast up in Duncan hills) but not for almond croissants. Teff and sesame loaf was the star. A cool loaf given teff is normally the flour used for Ethiopian/Eritrean injera bread (a soft, squishy sourdough like wrap used to pick up food instead of utensils). Love the stuff and never tried as a bread. Combined with sesame made for a very nutty, earthy, textured loaf that does well for a simple roasted veggie sandwich with light avocado and egg. We also tried it as a pesto cheese sandwich but the pesto overpowered the bread. Wish we had bought the full loaf instead of half!

Had this place on our list of must try bakeries. Got some Meyer lemon shortbread, a scone, a cheese pop over, a baguette and a half loaf of wheat bread. Are it all today but the half load. Everything was very good. Wish we bought a couple skices of cake too. Waited in line about 15 minutes. Worth the wait.

Yelp
INCREDIBLY AWESOME BAKERY!!!! Croissants are melt-in-your mouth goodness. BREAD is GRRRRREAT. Add butter and you have a FEAST! Service was quick, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the various items on display!!! Ambiance!.....go outside and enjoy the view of the majestic Claremont Hotel (while you bunch on a morning bun!!!)

Yelp
Delicious! Best chocolate almond croissant I've had! The options were a bit limited when I was able to stop by (11am ish ) so I do recommend getting there as early as possible in order to have more options! Service was quick and easy.

Yelp
An East Bay treasure for baked goods but be sure to be patient and go early for best selection on the fly. Time and patience are definitely a necessity visiting here, especially on weekends. Customers lining out the door and playing musical chairs for the few street-level parking spots directly in front are to be expected. Employees are more than preoccupied so if you have a phoned in pick-up order made and paid in advance, you will have to wait as well but not as long as the walk-in line at least. But the wait is well worth it as you will have the freshest breads and the flakiest of croissants. Tell your nutritionist they're a push over and the diet to kick rocks while you're here. I highly suggest their egg & ham croissant and quiche lorraine. Many overlook the parking lot at the rear of the building so I suggest parking there instead.

Yelp
I was very excited to try Fournée Bakery after receiving several recommendations, as well as the smells wafting through the door and the line down the sidewalk. With that being said, the pastries somewhat missed the mark. The chocolate almond croissant was fine - I've definitely had flakier, more flavorful croissants. The chocolate was good quality but not evenly distributed, and the almond-ness was a bit lacking. The gougère was pretty much what you'd expect and didn't taste very fresh. The star of the show was a half loaf of spelt and sesame bread. Wow! Crusty exterior, great chew, plenty of black sesame seeds, and real substance (it's a hearty loaf!). Maybe it was an off day for them, and perhaps my expectations were a bit lofty, but I do plan to return and try more breads and pastries.

Yelp
This is usually my favorite bakery but as of lately quality has gone down hill. There's always lines here which is fine and usually worth it (pro tip: call a day ahead and place your order) but lately it hasn't been hitting the mark. Come here maybe 3 times now and Ive gotten burnt croissants, and burnt bread. See attached photos for reference. I'm usually happy to pay their steep prices and wait in the long lines and circle the block constantly searching for parking to get their delish pastries, but I don't think I can come back if their quality control is this poor. I'm not spending an arm and leg for burnt pastries.

Yelp
Quick Summary: - Loaves are tough crusts - Items sell out way before the store hours, so visit early - Seasonal pastries - Focused on bakery, coffee is not a high priority - There are some benches, tables and chairs along the building and some leading to the back. This bakery was in my highly anticipated places to go for the longest time, and this year was finally the time. I looked around the street, and on the entrance side there is a sidewalk parking, and on the other side of the building, there was a space -- although I'm not sure if it was available space. (The reason I say this is because the area is empty). We arrived somewhat early in the morning but 2 hours after their doors have opened. I recognized it immediately by the line out of the door. This bakery is located by the foot of a palace like hotel towering from the hill. The building is cozily squished between a Peet's coffee. It is hard to tell baked goods are sold from the line, so the choosing began once we were near the entrance. One one corner of the display case had seasonal pastries, and the other side had different croissants. Large loaves were placed behind the counter. At this time of hour, before noon if I recall, most of the pastries were sold out. It is a matter of luck and a race to get the favorite ones it seems. We seized a loaf, croissants, and a carrot cake. I don't remember clearly, but there was a sign near the cashier, that they only offer one type of coffee, drip. Coffee is not their highest priority, which can easily be redeemed by walking to the Peet's next door. The croissant is delicious. I like how airy the interior was along with its flaky layers. My other favorite, that we ordered on a whim, was the carrot cake. It was moist but not-so-dense. The cream cheese squeezed between the center and on the cake surface had the perfect level of sweet and slightly tart. Overall, a subtly sweet, pleasant cake. The loaf we might pass on the next visit however. I am on a search for the bread loaves with a crispy crust, but this one was the tough crust. A fan of many, but this one is not for us.

Yelp
I moved to east bay recently and Fournee is absolutely my favorite bakery in the area. I work a few minutes away, so I usually head there during a break on Wednesday around 10-11am. I'm not sure if they slow down later in the day, but there is definitely still a line at what I would consider an "off time". The line moves pretty fast, but it is a small place, so you'll spend most of the time waiting outside. Everyone who works there is super friendly. The pastries aren't cheap, but I doubt cheap bakeries exist in the area. Most items average $5. My favorites are the almond croissant, the egg and ham croissant, and the ham and manchego sandwich. I'll also try their various tarts every now and then. I've never ordered anything I didn't like. Their almond croissant is probably the best I've ever had.

Yelp
I've been coming to Fournée for the pastries (LOVE their canelé!), but this year, I decided to get the 6 inch Chocolate Toffee Crunch Cake for my husband's birthday. I couldn't find any pictures of it but after reading the description on the website, I decided that I need to eat this cake- no, wait, I meant that my husband needs this cake for his birthday. Lol Called to place the order easy and picking up went super smoothly as well. The cake had a very simple but elegant look. The outside of the cake was wrapped in acetate and the photo that I have here is what it looked like after taking it off. The cake was super moist, the creameux was delicious and we loved the crunchy toffee & pretzel pieces in the layers. What can't Fournée do? Not a damn thing. Will be back or more for sure. Thanks!

Yelp
You like perfectly baked pastries....I mean perfectly baked...pastries in Berkeley? If you do, this is it...not even close. There is a 15 minute wait if you get there when it opens but don't let that dissuade you...this place is well worth the wait. As soon as you walk in you are hit with the smell. This is like a Philly cheesesteak...know what you want and don't browse..while ordering. As for the food...the fougasse is incredible. Might be my favorite anywhere in the world. The cheese bread, croissants (ham and cheese or plain) are incredible. The desserts look incredible too but did not try them...but they were clearly flying. Run...don't walk to this place and go early...it's easily the best in Berkeley and maybe Northern California.

Yelp
Just realized I forgot to finish this review from last year. The best panettone! And it was unique as well with the mix of fingered citron in it. The panettone was airy soft with good texture, and with the mix of fingered citron, golden raisins, candied oranges, and chocolate, it was delicious! Looking at what they have this year, they no longer are using fingered citron.

Yelp
I can't believe that a French bakery of this caliber is walkable from our home. The walnut levain is absurdly good- the best of our rarified local selection. The duck fat loaf is ridiculous- it could make bologna taste good. For breakfast- try the coriander scone. Coriander? Sounds so odd. But its unique flavor will have you craving it later.

Yelp
Solid bakery with great sweet and savory options in the Oakland/ Berkeley Area. Stopped by here with my girlfriend this in the middle of last month while house sitting for a friend in Oakland. When we arrived there was a bit of a line but we were able to get inside within 10-15 minutes. We had quite a large order (we were picking up things for friends and family) and the staff at the bakery quickly and efficiently got everything together. For our order we had (long list coming): 2x Ham and Manchego Croissant 1x Egg and Ham Croissant 1x Seasonal Veggie Croissant 1x Paris Brest 1x Fougasse 1x Baguette 1x Cannelé The items I tried were fantastic. The Paris Brest was a great blend of textures (creamy, crispy) and the Ham and Egg croissant was quite good. Parts of the ham got extra crispy which gave a nice crunch - a little bit of sriracha on top brought it all together. The Fougasse was the standout for me - the bread had just had a perfect happy medium crunchiness to chewiness and the flavors of herbs, olives and duck fat combining together was incredible. By itself, or with a soup, this bread is definitely one for the books. All in all, Fournée is a great pastry/ bakery option in Oakland. I'd visit back here in a heartbeat if I lived closer and I'd even go out of my way to come out here more frequently from San Francisco. 5/5

Yelp
A cute little bakery in Berkeley with a variety of yummy and fresh pastries! I recommend coming here earlier in the day to get their popular pastries. We ordered the paris brest, which had crispy layers and covered flakes. The flavored cream had subtle taste of lemon. It had caramel and hazelnut in the cream, so overall was very sweet. We also ordered the pain au chocolat. This was my favorite out of the 2. It was soft to bite into with multiple thin, crispy layers on top. There was dark chocolate inside was not as creamy as ive hoped, but maybe wouldve been better if I ate it immediately after buying it. We also ordered the lorraine quiche. It had a good balance with the sweet pastries, containing vegetables and ham mixed inside. Overall, it tasted like butter and egg. The crust was soft and crunchy!

Arielle C.

Yelp
Absolutely top-notch bakery! We arrived around 7:58am (it opens at 8) and there was already a line around the corner. It was worth the 15-ish minute wait to get the goods. The place is small but as soon as you walk in you're hit with the smell of freshly baked bread and an array of gorgeous pastries, tarts, and treats to feast your eyes on. The layout works well as you can scour over the goods as you stand in line, so by the time you get to the cash you're ready to order. The service was efficient too, so despite many people ahead of us - most with LARGE orders - the line moves fairly quickly. Now let's get to the important part. There is no shortage of recommendations for what to order. Being only two people, we didn't have the stomach capacity to try everything we would've liked to. The quiches, fruit tarts, and cakes looked phenomenal. We went with a morning bun, pain au chocolat, and two cookies. The morning bun is like a mix between a perfectly buttery, flaky croissant, and a sweet brioche, covered in the perfect amount of cinnamon sugar. It didn't have a strong cinnamon flavor, but was the perfect sweet treat to start the morning and pairs well with a hot coffee. The pain au chocolat was also buttery and flaky, and the dark chocolate inside was rich. I will say, it was not the best I've ever had, and despite how appealing they look in the showcase, I'd actually suggest skipping this and ordering some of their more interesting offerings instead. It was still very good, but I believe their other treats are probably more impressive. The cookies could not be better. The perfect texture- chewy but not cakey, crispy but not dry, and the chocolate just melts in your mouth. We tried a chocolate chip hazelnut and a chocolate chip oat. They were both bursting with flavor without being over the top. And as a bonus, they're simply stunning. If you're into Instagram-worthy foods, these cookies do not disappoint the eyes. All in all, this is definitely worth the wait in line. Can't wait to go back and try some of the breads and other goodies!

Wendy L.

Yelp
Fournee often has a very long line, but some random weekend mornings, there's no line...and you should definitely jump on the opportunity! The line can be quite long, around the corner which can be quite a wait. My favorites are the cheese bread, croissant, chocolate croissant and ham and cheese croissant....but there are also tons of other delicious goodies there; I just have to stop myself from ordering everything. They also have a bunch of really delicious desserts in the front case which I haven't had a chance to try.

Pat C.

Yelp
This place delivers quality pastries Wednesday to Sunday from 8 am. You will see a line outside but join in , not only it moves fast but it is totally worth it. As a snob French this is one of 3 places where I am willing to drive to get a delicious viennoiserie. The other two are in San Ramon and Lafayette. Forget SF. Forget la farine.

Anthony L.

Yelp
I went here to give this place a try since many people were raving about how this place is the best bakery in east bay. This bakery was no disappointment at all. Croissants were amazing especially the veggie croissant which I highly recommend. The only thing i wish for is they heat up the croissant. I can imagine how much better it would be if it was warm.

Troy T.

Yelp
Got a croissant, baguette, and a fruit tart. Croissant was pretty good, not very flaky, flavor was very good: buttery, slightly sweet while mildly salted, and the lamination was not collapsed with large pockets, no gooey spots at all. 3.8/5 but I need to try another one closer to the time it came out of the oven Baguette had a thicker crust and the inside is not light, more on the dense side. I was hoping for better. Fruit tart is well balanced pastry bottom with oat crumb top. A few different fruits were used to make this (red berries mostly). I really enjoyed this. The texture was dense and they maintain a slight tart of some of the berry amidst the sweet. I could have eaten a whole round of this tart, thankfully I only got a slice, but I am going back for another when I can. 4.5/5

Victoria B.

Yelp
Delicious pastries, especially the one with ham and egg in it. The pastry is flaky and buttery and it's perfectly seasoned. The last time my partner brought one for me, I wasn't hungry in the slightest--I'm talking, just ate a massive meal and am so full even commercials of food make me feel sick--but you better believe my appetite came back once I took a bite.

Jo S.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! I always stop here when visiting my CAL student. Street metered parking only. There is often a line, but it's worth the wait. Everything is freshly baked and very good, but my absolute favorite is their Morning Buns, so I'll often order just that! I have not come across another Morning Bun that I line any better!

Kevin P.

Yelp
No parking, prepare to park further away and walk. We came during closer to lunch hours so it was not too crowded luckily. The staffs do tag team and work extremely fast. Walk in, no sit down. Ham & Egg Roll: 5/5, easily. Would always come back just to try this again. Morning Bun: 5/5, soft and flakey Cheese roll: 2/5, not the typical American type of cheese roll. It was melted cheese on top of a very dry sourdough-like bread.

Carol D.

Yelp

Haley T.

Yelp
If you haven't been to Fournée yet, you're missing out! There will usually be a line at the opening, with Friday seeming to be the busiest. I recommend coming a little after lunch. They do sell out toward the end of the day. Pretty much everything here is heavenly-- the baguette, the sourdough bread, the ham & manchego croissant, the pain au chocolat, ham & egg croissant, the seasonal veggie croissant, and the seasonal scone. However, I'm not a big fan of the sandwiches (which they have on weekdays) or the cheese rolls which I know is a hot take. The staff is very nice. Parking can be tough too but it'll be worth it. 1000% recommend coming to Fournee!!

Sloan H.

Yelp
It's fine croissant was kinda soft so not the flakey extreme of a really good croissant. Bread is ok. It's fine. I wouldn't come back so it's a 2

David A.

Yelp
I like the pecan slice I had but other than that their scones and croissants are a bit dry.

Muoi H.

Yelp
Live in Sacramento but worth the drive to grab pastries ! Fournee is my fav bakery ! Everything is flaky crumbling buttery delicious !!Affordable pricing to wide variety selection of baked goods ! Always have to grab some to share and freeze ! Until next time

Andrea B.

Yelp
Great bakery - . Super friendly staff. !

Chia Min H.

Yelp
I think Fournee is a great option close to my house but just a tiny bit overrated. I've been multiple times and tried different items and every pastries was pretty good especially when fresh but honestly didn't blow me away. The people were nice and gave great recommendations. I think the location is great too but can be very hard to find parking. I would go back!

Sara S.

Yelp
BEST CROISSANTS IN BERKELEY!!! Sooo yummy and such good quality for a very reasonable price. The line can just be long sometimes, but try going on a weekday to avoid.

Jessica A.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The pastries are so delicious and the ambiance is very relaxed and cute. We got different pastries but the pain au chocolat was my favorite! It was slightly crispy and soft and airy in the inside. The service was fast and the person taking my order was nice!

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
I wanted to try the ham and egg croissant here, but they were already sold out by 10 AM. We decided to try a few other items instead since they have a variety of baked goods, pastries, sandwiches, etc. Chocolate Almond Croissant ($4.75): The croissant wasn't as flaky as I liked and there was barely any chocolate filling in it. It was still decent, but I think there are better croissants in the Bay Area. Cheese Roll ($3.50): This was a dough with gruyere, manchego, and cubeb pepper. The bread was light and not dry at all, but I didn't get too much of the cheese flavor other than the crust on the outside. Lorraine Quiche ($5.25): The slice of quiche was cold! I wish they had warmed it up because it tasted like it was taken straight out of the fridge. The flavor and texture seemed okay, but the cold temperature of it made it hard to eat. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the items so far, but I might come back again to try their well known ham and egg croissant!

Sammy T.

Yelp
As someone's whose favorite place to eat croissants is Arsicault, you bet I had high hopes for this place because I've been told it's the "East Bay equivalent". I can't say that it matches Arsicault, but it does the job and probs my preferred one in East Bay if i'm feeling lazy and don't want to cross the bridge. A few notes: 1. This place has a line! We came on Friday morning and waited maybe 10 min? It moves fast but try and come here early if you want to gurantee first picks! 2. They do pick ups - you can call and order in and you can skip the line What we got: 1. Ham & cheese croissant - it isn't as airy as the Arsicault ones but the flavors are definitely just as good. The croissant here almost feels like the butter layers inside are more crispy? 2. Special croissant - I would skip this solely because I didn't like the flavor profile (so this is a personal choice) 3. Morning bun - great layer and perfect sweetness. This is definitely a returner! Overall, I'm glad this place is around and wish I came here sooner when I was in college! It's next to rick and ann's too so you could get pastries then go to brunch and have the pastries as an afternoon snack. GLORIOUS plans if you ask me ;)

Melissa M.

Yelp
Excellent pastries - long lines to get them. Highly recommend getting there early. I was going for breakfast at a friend's place and didn't know what they would like so I got a selection: morning bun, chocolate almond croissant, walnut coriander scone, and their seasonal fruit croissant. All of them were exceptional.

Irma V.

Yelp
Fabulous bakery!! Delicious choices. Their loaf of bread made with DUCK FAT will get you hooked!! Hard to park in that area but worth it! Great customer service in person and on the phone when I've had questions.. Very nice area to have coffee and pastry or full meal.

Mylinh V.

Yelp
We tried the Panettone, Farmers Bread Loaf, Gougere, Currant Scone, and Canele. The farmers bread was so fluffy and good. I loved the crust it had as well as the fluffy texture. When heated up, it was amazing. The Panettone was delicious. Highlight of the night. All of the layers of fruit and chocolate was amazing the the crust was even better. I loved the almond and coco glaze. The inclusion of oats was great and gave it good texture. The current scone was a good one too. Not too sweet and full of flavor. I love the crisp edges and soft interior. I was not a big fan of the canele or the gougere. They were both too eggy for my liking but they were still decent!

Diana K.

Yelp
Fournee makes the best bread around! We particularly like the teff bread, which we can't find anywhere else. The pastries are also delicious, which is why there is usually a line. However, customers can order ahead by phone and quickly pick up an order - which is really the way to go. I've found the staff unfailingly polite and cheerful.

John K.

Yelp
5 stars for the best croissant west of Paris. There are many excellent bakeries within The City with Tartine as a top notch option. I give Fournee the edge based on the crisp texture and flavor. The exterior is almost glass like in how it flakes and the center pulls apart like a cloud of buttery goodness. This is my last meal death sentence croissant and I stand by that along with this place called Sparrow Bakery in Bend OR. Now I've never had their quiches but I hear they are also outstanding. Is it death sentence good? I'm willing to find out. The quiche but not the crime!

Bonnie S.

Yelp
Great bakery! Got here a few minutes before they opened on a Saturday morning and there is a line of people awaiting for 8am opening - and for good reason! Luckily once they open the line goes pretty quickly. You can also preorder the day before and just go right in to pick up. Even before they opened their doors, the smell of amazing baked goods (mmm...butter) is strong. The inside is cozy and the pastries all look so good - some of the flakiest croissants you'll find in the Bay Area. We got a ham and manchego croissant and a egg and ham croissant - two different but both awesome experience! The ham and manchego is so buttery and flakey and somehow also moist on the inside. And when we got it, it was still warm - It's peak croissant goodness! The egg and ham is super interesting because it's croissant wrapped around ham that's wrapped around a whole hard boiled egg. It's super interesting and tasty - and very filling as well. We also got a chocolate croissant to share and it was super flakey as well - delicious! There is no parking lot and also not a lot of street parking so it can be tough - but totally worth it!

Austin W.

Yelp
I stopped by on a Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. after a hike in the Oakland hills and there was a line that wrapped around the block. Parking is definitely a bit hard to find in the area and the line moves pretty slowly so plan accordingly. The pastries here are top notch. My wife and I got the olive loaf, a gougère, veggie croissant, and ham and cheese croissant. The croissant here are buttery and flakey, just as a perfect croissant should be. The last time I had a croissant of this quality was at Arsicault Bakery in San Francisco. The olive loaf has great flavor and is deliciously moist throughout. If you enjoy olives, you will love the loaf. The staff was nice when it came to placing my order, pricing is fair, and overall, l would definitely stop by again if I'm looking for the perfect croissant. This is a place I'd bring my out of town friends to.

Yelp
It truly is unbelievable what they can create in this incredibly small bakery. We picked up a dozen different items all delicious. You cannot go wrong stopping here for a sweet treat. Only advice is to get here earlier in the day than we did as they sell out of so much. The breads are beautiful (works of art) and incredibly flavorful, most make using Levain dough. Wowee on the Meyer Lemon Shortbread - wished I had ordered 2 of those. Scones were amazing and so was the chocolate croissant. We walked around the corner and sat on a bench and enjoyed.

Yelp
It's perfect. Probably one of the best pastries I've had (in the league with b.pat and arsicault). So flaky and buttery and crispy-I couldn't find a thing wrong about it. We tried the almond, chocolate and ham/egg/cheese. Each was delicious and will absolutely be going back for more. A friend brought a box of these over to our home and it's literally the best thing to bring to a gathering!

Yelp
BEST BAKERY IN THE BAY AREA. I would give this more than 5 stars if possible. I live far away but it's WORTH the drive. You need to try every single pastry here. Flaky, buttery, amazing. I haven't had 1 thing I don't like and the staff is super friendly and helpful. You can also preorder over the phone once you know what you like/want, so you don't have to wait in line (because the line gets reallyyyyyyy long and can take anywhere from 30 mins to 1 hour +). But, it's WORTH IT. I hate standing in lines, but this bakery is 1000000% worth waiting hours for, I PROMISE YOU. I recommend everything, but my absolute FAVORITES that I get everytime I go are the following: Morning Bun Almond Croissant Chocolate Croissant Ham & Manchego Croissant Chocolate Almond Croissant

Yelp
What can I say? How did I not know they existed for so long? It is the most amazing pastries savory and sweet ever had in this country. Ocean to ocean. It never disappoints. The chocolate almond croissant would be my last meal on earth.

Yelp
There's metered parking in the area! There was a short line when I came in the morning but it moves quickly. They had a great pastry selection and were out of a few items (the quiche and croque madam), but still had a ton to choose from. We ended up getting an almond croissant (amazing), chocolate croissant (phenom), cheese bread (not my favorite but very good), gougere (I really liked it, my friends didn't as much), and ham and cheese croissant (delicious). I imagine you can't go wrong no matter what you order here! Nice flakey pastry, well done breads, and great selection.

Yelp
Best croissants ever!!!! Don't be daunted by the line out the door. It moves quickly and once inside, it is absolutely worth the wait. Croissants, pastries, tarte tatinand beautiful loaves of bread that make your mouth water, and are soooo wonderful! Run, don't walk before they sell out for the day!

Yelp
Super delicious and well made pastries. Quick service: order, pay, and get items--no heating up though! No seating options either. They have a variety of sweet and savory options. My favorite savory item is the ham and cheese croissant.

Yelp
I got a box of maybe eight baked goods for the office and everyone liked it. I ate my ham and cheese croissant on the 22min Bart ride over from Rockridge to Embarcadero. My boss liked the canele, and a coworker expressly enjoyed the walnut and coriander scone. I can't comment on the others, but they were gone. I come here once a month after a tennis bout at the Claremont across the street. Please pay for parking when you visit, meter maids highly vigilant. But there's street parking up the hill. Everyone smiles and you'll notice a puppy patiently waiting outside. I let the puppy before I go in for good luck. Weekends are mad busy and everything good is gone by noon. They only have loaves of bread left at that point. There's no inside seating but the Peets next door has a nook.

Yelp
Fournee is my favorite East Bay bakery! They have savory and sweet croissants, scones, and rustic loaves of bread that instantly elevate any morning. The quality and selection are unmatched in this area and they often have seasonal flavors and special holiday items (panettone, pumpkin pies, yule logs, etc.) that you can pre-order. The long lines are worth the wait and even if you see the line to the end of the block, it's usually around 20 minutes. I wish they allowed you to order online instead of calling, but if you call ahead you can pre-order and skip the line when picking up. FAVORITES: Ham and egg croissant (most unique croissant offering!) Ham and cheese croissant Chocolate almond croissant Meyer lemon scone Olive bread loaf During my last visit though, I bought a big box of pastries and they forgot to add one of the croissants I paid for, so I recommend double checking your order before leaving. I'm sure it doesn't happen often though and was a mistake. Still looking forward to my next visit!
