Vegan Ice Cream Sensation Frankie & Jo’s Opens at Marin Country Mart | Eater SF

"Opening later this month in the Bay Area, I’m excited that this Seattle-based vegan ice cream company—launched in 2013—will debut its first California scoop shop at Marin Country Martin Larkspur on Wednesday, June 28. I’ve heard it already has three Washington locations and has earned praise for remarkably creamy dairy-free ice creams made with sprouted cashew milk and gum-free coconut milk; seasonal flavors include brown sugar vanilla, chocolate tahini supercookie, and mango sorbet swirl. The Marin outpost will be only 200 square feet, selling scoops and pints to be enjoyed on an outdoor patio decked out with a fireplace." - Lauren Saria

The Vegan Ice Cream That Made Me Actually Like Vegan Ice Cream | Bon Appétit

"Located in Capitol Hill, this small, minimally decorated ice cream shop focuses squarely on its vegan frozen desserts, and the reviewer says it converted a longtime skeptic. The base uses cashews and coconut milk for an exceptionally creamy, non-icy texture you can spoon through, and inventive flavors like brown sugar vanilla and chocolate tahini stand out. The must-try is the salty caramel ash: a jet-black, mildly sweet scoop flavored with burnt vegan caramel, coconut oil, vanilla extract, and sea salt that’s subtler and smokier than typical salted caramel while letting the rich base and vanilla shine. The maple-syrup waffle cone—made with oat flour and flax seeds—is crunchy yet chewy, almost cookie-like. After sampling many dairy-based shops, the writer couldn’t stop thinking about this vegan option." - ByPriya Krishna

Amazing vegan ice cream. The shop itself is very small, can fit about 2-3 customers inside, no indoor seating. They have set flavors and rotating seasonal flavors, and are always willing to provide samples. The mint brownie and strawberry milk flavor are my favorites. Got a cone this visit which tasted a bit stale, which I was surprised by since at the Seattle locations the cones are always super fresh. Next time would only get a cone if they're being made fresh. There is plenty of outdoor seating in the shopping area.

I had such a great experience at this ice cream shop thanks to Lara! She were super friendly, patient, and made great recommendations. You could tell she really cared about making sure customers were happy. The service was fast, the ice cream was delicious, and their positive attitude made the visit even better. It’s rare to find that kind of genuine customer service these days. Definitely made my day!

We absolutely love Frankie & Jo’s ice cream—ever since we first tried it in Seattle, we were hooked. When the Marin location opened in July 2023, we were so excited and have been coming regularly ever since. But after nearly two years, it’s honestly baffling how poorly this location is managed when it comes to inventory. They’re always sold out of so many things—most frustratingly, the waffle cones. It doesn’t matter what day of the week or time of day you come, the answer is always the same: “We sold out earlier today.” This has been a consistent issue since the shop opened, and at this point, it just feels like they don’t even try. And we’re not even talking about seasonal flavors—it’s the basics. Imagine going to a gas station and they’re constantly out of gas. That’s what this feels like. To top it off, the staff often seems indifferent or even dismissive when you ask about missing items. For a brand that has such a loyal following and amazing product, it’s frustrating to see this kind of experience at one of their locations.

Incredible ice cream!!! They have at least one flavor with no cane sugar and it is excellent. Really wish they had a few more, but honestly it’s miraculous that they had even one! And it is delicious!! They are fully vegan and GF and the service is fast and friendly. What a dream.

So good Brown sugar vanilla ice cream! And this place is Vegan, 100% gluten free! They opened it because they wanted to reduce their dependence on animals. I will definitely be back for more ice cream here.

Very good for plant based but just ok in comparison with dairy ice cream, flavor choice was pretty limited. Staff is friendly. $750 for a mini scoop by the time you add in a tip. I prefer Goguette homemade ice cream in Santa Rosa.

Delicious ice cream, especially for those who can no longer handle dairy. Every flavor is delicious, which makes it so hard to choose! I come here often due to proximity of the ferry and boy is it dangerous. The staff is always welcoming and there’s never been a line. Check it out if you have the time!

Stumbling upon a dessert shop that has both dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream and waffle cones was the last thing I expected. Allergen conscious menu had mostly items that were safe more me. (As in there's notes for items with nuts, and an entire separate detailed list with every single ingredient in each flavor for you to read and make an informed decision!) Employee behind the counter that evening was super friendly and helpful. My partner, who does not have my food allergies, was level headed & had a mini Strawberry scoop. I went crazy and got the regular size scoop (generous portion for me) of Salted Pistachio in a cone. It was savory and sweet at the same time, wonderful creamy texture. Waffle cone was super fragrant and crunchy. Dear allergy community, give this place a try!
