Frankie & Jo's - Review - University District - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This 100% vegan and gluten-free shop is proof that great frozen desserts don’t need dairy or wheat to be the greatest. Every flavor here delivers, particularly when you come across ones made with seasonal fruit paired with bits of delicate cake or cookie pieces. Get it all scooped on a homemade maple oat waffle cone, and don’t be surprised if you go on to choose this place over others that use actual milk and cream. Or you could wait an approximate eternity in line for Molly Moon’s—your choice." - Aimee Rizzo

New Self-Pour Wine and Beer Taproom Rapport Plans Late July Opening on Capitol Hill - Eater Seattle

"Even though the summer weather hasn’t completely arrived yet, vegan ice cream fans will no doubt cheer this news. Frankie and Jo’s is close to opening a new U Village location, its third outpost in Seattle, following the ones in Ballard and Capitol Hill. The original opening date was supposed to be Saturday, but a rep tells Eater Seattle an unexpected delay has pushed it back, and there will be an update forthcoming. On the menu will be the shop’s regular flavors, such as chocolate date, salty caramel ash, and beet strawberry rose sorbet, along with seasonal scoops, including Eclipse (toasted coconut and dark chocolate ice cream with sunflower butter cups) and kale lime leaf. Right now, all locations are available for to-go orders, and there’s now nationwide delivery for pints." - Gabe Guarente

We were impressed with this place. It’s a plant based/vegan ice cream with a good selection of flavors, including some seasonal ones that were pretty good. Coconut Joy was my favorite. I didn’t care much for the gluten-free waffle cone. The place was nice and clean, and the staff was friendly. One of the biggest surprises was how creamy the ice cream was. We will go back for sure.

I recently had the chance to try Frankie & Jo’s at University Village, and I have to say, I was genuinely surprised by how good the ice cream was – especially considering it’s vegan! While I'm not vegan myself, I’m always down to try new things, and this was definitely a pleasant surprise. The flavors are rich, creamy, and full of flavor, which is not always the case with vegan ice cream or food. I also loved that I could sample multiple flavors before making my final choice – a nice touch that made the decision process much easier! The vibe of the shop is super chic and modern, which adds to the whole experience. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy some ice cream. Definitely a fun, first-time visit for me! The only downside (and it’s a minor one) is the use of coconut in a lot of the flavors. While I don’t have any allergies myself, I know a few people who are allergic to coconut, and it's something to keep in mind. Coconut’s a healthy alternative, but it might not work for everyone. Overall, Frankie & Jo’s is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area – a surprising, delicious vegan ice cream spot with a cool vibe! But if you are allergic to nuts or coconut — you may want to explore other options.

Yummy. My first time trying vegan ice cream. I liked the salted caramel ash but definitely has a coconut milk taste The waffle cone was crisp and perfect.

Google
They have gluten free waffle cones for their delicious gluten free and vegan ice cream! I got their strawberry & cookies and cream flavors and they were so yummy!! I can't remember the last time as a gluten free person I had a waffle cone. It was magical!

On Saturday afternoon at a sunny day, so many people came in and made long line. But sadly there was only one employee. He was nice, kind, and doing his best. I chose a seasonal flavor, Rhubarb Yuzu Ice cream, and it was great!

Google
Great vegan+gluten free ice cream!! We go all the time and it never disappoints. Definitely get a box of their shortbread cookies while you’re there!

Google
This is hands down my favorite plant-based ice cream spot in Seattle. I got the mini size of their seasonal lemon flavor, and it was perfect - not too tart, not too sweet, just the right balance of bright, refreshing flavors. Even on a chilly Seattle day, the shop was busy with people, which says a lot about how good this place is. I also love their commitment to sustainability - all of their packaging is compostable. If you’re looking for delicious dairy-free ice cream with creative flavors and a great mission, this is the place to go! Can’t wait to come back and try more flavors!

Google
Hands down the best vegan ice cream shop of all time. The quality, taste, and variety of flavors cannot be beat. Every time I travel, I look for Vegan ice cream, and while I might find one or two good flavors, they still can’t compare overall to F&J’s. I’ve been a loyal customer since they opened and always try the rotating seasonal flavors. Here are my very favorites over the years. (Including a few always-available ones.) * Miso Moon * Vanilla Carmel Cone * California Cabin * Carrot Cake * Cookie Milk * Cashew Cookie Crunch * I love Lemon * Oatnog and Cookies * Maple Pecan Crunch * Butter Pecan * Miyoko’s Butter Toffee and Chocolate * Cardamom Apple Pie * Pumpkin Pie * Dream State (Pistachio) * Blackberry Lemon Cheesecake * Basil Blackberry Buckle * Super Dreamsicle * Peaches and Cream * Mint Chocolate Cookie * Mint Brownie * Mint Cookie Crunch * Eclipse (sun butter cups!) * Salted Sesame Snickerdoodle * Molten Chocolate Cake * Cardamum Pear Pie * Birthday Supercake * Gianduja * Black Sesame Fudge * RGE Cookies and Cream * Salty Carmel Ash * Apple Butter / Orchard * Cherry Velvet Heartbeet * Christmas: Cranberry Gingersnap & Oatnog, White Chocolate Peppermint

Yelp
I didn't know vegan ice cream could taste like ice cream! They did a great job, and I certainly wouldn't have ever opted to come here if it wasn't on explicit recommendation from my friends. There is no way I would know the ones I tried were vegan if I were blind tasting. I got half-and-half cookies and cream and mint chocolate (or whatever the names were). They were "fancier" tasting, with ingredients that tasted different than what I would get (so non-standard mint-chocolate flavor and non-standard cookies-and-cream flavor), but I wouldn't be able to guess that they were also vegan. I think the one downside is that it's a little pricey, but they are very well made and very allergen free, which means I could come here with some of my more intolerant/gluten-free/etc friends.

Yelp
We've been to this shop many, many times before but we've never had such a wonderful experience! Vera, one of the managers, was there today and was so adorable, friendly and kind. She made our time in the shop so lovely. My husband and I got one scoop 1/2 & 1/2 with two flavors and Vera asked if we wanted the two flavors side by side or on top of one another in the cup. We've never had anyone ask us that before. I wish all employees were like her!

Yelp
I've had vegan ice cream and never really liked it....until now. This place does vegan ice cream so well you can't even tell. I got the ice cream flight which comes with 3 mini scoops and waffle cone bits. I got the salty caramel ash, beet strawberry rose and the pumpkin pie. The beet strawberry rose might not be for everyone, but it was so refreshing. I highly recommend trying this place out if you love salt & straw for their weirder flavours!

Yelp
Frankie & Jo's is worth trying at least the once! It's great to have a dairy and gluten free ice cream spot which makes sweet treats more accessible to more folks, and they're definitely a bit health focused with a lot of ingredients like chaga focused on superfood properties. The staff was so friendly helping us with tasting samples. Their branding and shop design are very cute and instagrammable, and I enjoy their range of creative seasonal flavors, but that large triple scoop ice cream with a waffle cone after tax and tip came out to about a steep $18 which is pretty crazy for just ice cream. I went with a group so between all of us we were able to get most of their flavors, but I don't know that I'd hurry back to try any again. They use a lot of coconut in their ice cream base to get that high fat content for optimal ice cream, and it means a lot of coconut undertone flavors. Sometimes they use a blend with oat which is nice for variety. Our crowd hit was the summer sangria sorbet, which was the least sweet of the flavors we'd tried and super refreshing. And everyone thought their waffle cone was superior to regular ice cream store cones. For me being an omnivore the steep price tags are not incentives for future visits but for many folks it is! :)

Yelp
Vera was great and welcoming for our first time visit! She took us on a flavor-filled experience that resulted in getting a flight because everything we tried was tasty and couldn't land on just one. Salamat po!

Yelp
With a completely plant-based menu, it made it extra challenging for me to narrow down which flavors I wanted. Fortunately they allowed you to sample as many flavors as you'd like, so I definitely had my fixing. Everything here is 100% vegan, gum-free, and soy-free. This avoids a lot of the top allergens which is quite impressive, as most of the flavors are coconut based. Each item on the menu also has a complete ingredients list which makes it really easy to know what you are consuming. I ultimately went with a double scoop of their Supercookies & Cream, and their Salted Caramel Ash. Both of these flavors were incredible. The ice cream was delectably creamy and oh so satisfying. While there's not a lot of seating inside, they are located in an open plaza with plenty of tables and seats to choose from.

Yelp
As everyone has stated, this was indeed pricey. Got the beet strawberry rose and it was floral/refreshing! Even my hater GF enjoyed it gradually. My vegan sister would love it.

Yelp
I had their brown sugar vanilla ice cream and it was rich and creamy/buttery thanks to their use of cocoa butter. I haven't had too many vegan ice creams that weren't thin and icy in texture, so I very much enjoyed it. Sure, it didn't quite taste like a typical vanilla ice cream, as there was interference from other tastes (possibly from the cashew milk or the cocoa butter), but for what it was, it was excellent. I found myself craving that ice cream the very next day! And it was a cold and rainy day, too, but still. This tells you just how good it is. Service was pleasant and it's an ice cream counter that can get busy during week-ends. I'll be looking for this brand at the grocery store.

Yelp
Still ok. But the seasonal flavors this year just suck. STRONG basil in the blackberry icecream does not work. The potato chip icecream was very underwhelming. And, yes, still a mandatory 3% service charge. This was their "covid care" charge 3 years. Covid is over but they have kept the charge, just with a new name. And worse, the Square payment screen shows you your total but does not tell you a 3% service charge is added while asking you if you'd like to leave a tip. A tip for scooping ice cream after I was already forced to pay 3% more than your advertised price? Never going to happen.

Yelp
How I heard of this place: It's been a number of years since a friend first told us about Frankie & Jo's. But it wasn't on our radar until we ended up at the University Village with family visiting from out of state, that we indulged. Type of cuisine: Plant-based, novelty ice creams. Ambiance: Quaint and cozy, bright and minimalist, the barquettes intending to keep customers standing and out when all that remains of their treats is melted dredges. What I ordered: We selected the Strawberry Milk, the Chocolate Tahini Supercookie, Mint Brownie, and Brown Sugar Vanilla. What I loved: The novelty of flavors was intriguing. Each, however left something to be desired. Why I loved it: The mission of Frankie & Jo's is great and one we wish more eateries would adopt. Cost: High

Yelp
I love the ice cream no matter what location, as it is a special treat to be able to get a full range of gluten free vegan ice cream choices and even fresh made waffle cones for family that have allergies and intolerances to gluten, dairy, and egg. I especially like this location for the plentiful nearby free parking, a nice bar with stools facing out or cute little tables out front for relaxing at while eating, as well as an entire nearby outdoor seating area to go to if with a larger group. I like that this location also has water and cups readily available as the ice cream is very rich. Staff have always been helpful and friendly even though it is almost always busy with a long line when visiting.

Yelp
Last summer, I was getting a ton of ice cream recommendations when I was visiting (not too sure, prob because it was hot LOL) from my Seattleite friends. This was one of the places, and I never had the chance to check it out until recently after dinner at U Village. Couldn't wait for some vegan ice cream after dinner! The location that my boyfriend and I went to is located across of Bamboo Sushi in the University Village. It was dark, so we used our maps to get to where we had to and surprisingly it worked! There are huge parking lots all around the entire mall with ample parking stalls. Might need to park a little further from everything during busy hours and during the weekends. I got their Mint Brownie as those are two of my favorite things in one! Mmm! Such a strong minty flavor. The star of the ice cream! The brownie was basically just a sidekick that gave the overall ice cream some texture, which I loved! My boyfriend got the Supercookies & Cream. Surprisingly really creamy for a vegan ice cream! Really great flavors together too. I actually liked his more than mine LOL. Also, a favorite combination of mine. I know what I'll be getting the next time! They also had seasonal ice creams which didn't seem interesting to me at the time. But definitely will try a seasonal flavor one day if the two flavors we got don't lure me in first LOL. This ice cream chain is definitely worth the hype! I've always been a bit skeptical with vegan ice cream as it's usually a hit or miss, but this time around, it was definitely a great hit! The prices, tho, are a bit wild for the amount we got. Don't know if it's because we went to the U Village location (where spaces are hella expensive) or if it's just that pricey in general.

Yelp
Plant based ice cream with bold flavors. Our group tried a few different flavors and each one was unique and delicious! My top favorite flavors were the strawberry (fresh and sweet), the California cabin (spicy and creamy) and a coffee one which name I can't remember. The shop is in a good location in the u village shopping center. There is not much seating inside but the courtyard is not far with tables and plenty of seating.

Yelp
Good but not great ice cream (all vegan). But today two medium scoops cost me 25 dollars. Give me a break Seattle....
google avatar

Starla C.

Yelp
Always such creative and fun flavors!! I was super excited to see a gluten free and vegan ice cream place close to where I live, I decided to try it out and safe to say I was so happy I did. Staff is friendly and pretty quick. The inside is cute, and very clean! I will say the prices do seem to be expensive but the "mini" scoop I ordered actually ended up being basically a regular scoop and it will only $6.50 so I was very happy about that. Over great place nice staff and all the flavors are AMAZING
google avatar

Khadij A.

Yelp
Best ice cream shop in Seattle! People often prefer Molly Moon's which is a great alternative but I honestly love the consistency and flavors here. Something about the place being vegan makes you feel like it's healthier (even though the coconut cream probably isn't, whoops). Definitely check it out one of its two locations!
google avatar

Katherine G.

Yelp
The taste and quality of the ice cream deserves 5 stars, but for the price I had to bump it down to 4. I've never had vegan ice cream this good before, and I can see why this place is so popular! They offer free samples, so you can try as many flavors as you want before you decide which ones to get. I got the mint chocolate chip and chocolate tahihi cookie, both of which were amazing! They were so creamy, and the flavor was spot on. You can taste a hint of the coconut from the coconut milk base, but I thought it complemented it well! Chocolate tahini was a flavor I never had before, and it was delicious. A single scoop will run you a little over $10 which is quite absurd in my opinion. However, it's worth a try for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
Out of all the vegan ice creams I've tried, nothing beats Frankie and Jo's. Their ingredients are clean, gluten-free, and gum-free. I'm a regular here, and I felt the need to write this review because I think I've discovered my favorite seasonal flavor: the mango sorbet swirl. You have to get it with the maple flaxseed waffle cone. I hope this becomes a regular flavor at the scoop shops...or if it could at least be the seasonal flavor for every Seattle summer, I'd be happy.
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Frankie & Jo's may not be the "creamiest" ice cream that I've ever had; however, when you take into account the health aspect, I don't know how you could have better ice cream. I went in and tried multiple flavors between what we ordered and samples and each ice cream packed a ton of unique flavors that were vibrant, different and really good. They have your traditional chocolates and vanillas, but they also carry a number of other flavors that you just don't expect which were great. As someone who has family members with daily and gluten allergies, this was a great treat for them.
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
This ice cream spot is a celiac and dairy-free persons dream! Everything, including the waffle cone, is gluten free and allergen information is clearly listed. All the flavors are delicious. I especially enjoy the seasonal options.
google avatar

Grace J.

Yelp
All vegan ice cream!!!!! Except one scoop is $9 :( it's quite a bit for the small amount you get. A pretty big selection though, and you can tell it's great quality. Personally a lot of the flavors are super coconut heavy, which I'm not a huge fan of. But great dairy free option when you need it, compared to the limited DF selection of Molly moons and other ice cream places in the u dis.
google avatar

Keldon F.

Yelp
100% vegan and 100% yummy. If your lactose intolerant I recommend try this place out!
google avatar

Ciara L.

Yelp
Boujeeeeeee prices but the flavor is so good. Mmmm mmm mmmm. Always cheers me up on a bad day. Love Frankie & Jo's
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Best vegan ice cream I've had! Super creamy and smooth and their flavors are so fun. Staff is always friendly and they offer samples! I think my favorite flavor is the supercookies and cream but they have many more unique flavors to choose from.
google avatar

Nicollette V.

Yelp
Best ice cream ever! The flavors are all so unique and delicious! I love them! California cabin might be my new favorite ice cream! Ivan helped us out and was very knowledgeable and passionate! He should definitely get a raise. Thanks for the great experience!!
google avatar

Marie R.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been here so I wanted to try it again! This time, I got the rocky road. It was pretty good, but not as good as I'd remember. You can taste the coconut milk, which is good since I love coconut milk. I'd love to try their other flavors next time!
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
This vegan ice cream was soooo delicious! They have some pretty unique flavors, but I went somewhat mild with mint brownie and it was so yummy, light, and refreshing. Friendly service too!
google avatar

Shayna H.

Yelp
I do not eat dairy so I was thrilled to see a plant-based ice cream store! There were many different flavors so I went with a mint chip flavor. I was looking forward to getting a topping but was saddened that they had run out of their "chocolate syrup." It definitely wasn't even late in the day to be running out of one of the only 4 toppings to choose between. The ice cream was super creamy and delicious. However, as you can see in the picture they really give you the smallest amount of ice cream for a pretty high price. While I got one scoop from Frankie and Jo's my brother got single scoops from Molly Moon's which is just around the corner. I was envious of them as their single scoop was twice as big as mine.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
I'm not vegan, but I'm always down to try a new vegetarian/vegan place. In the middle of University Village is a quaint little ice cream parlor that sits maybe 6 people. The cool thing about the ice cream is there is no dairy. The day that we went was slightly crowded, but no real lines forming, and the scooper(?) was very accommodating and we got to try most of the different flavours before finally ordering. My favorite was a strawberry milk flavored one made with fresh strawberries. I got it in a waffle cone, which was also vegetarian. Healthy never tasted so good.
google avatar

Joy O.

Yelp
The icecream here is the best vegan icecream I have ever had. My absolute favorite is the California Cabin! It has tiny, soft/chewing cookie pieces and reminds me of a cup of chai in vegan ice cream form. I loveeeee it here

Kyler O.

Yelp
I LOVE that they have Vegan ice cream here that actually tastes really good. The Charcoal ice cream is my personal favorite! Always friendly staff and nice open floor plan.
google avatar

Krista K.

Yelp
Love finding allergy friendly options, both gluten-free and dairy free options. Staff was friendly and encouraged tasting a few different flavors, glad I did as some were stronger than others. Flavors were fairly good, pricing was a little high-but kinda expected with a plant-based, allergen friendly product. Love the compostable single use items. Very fun vibe and clean inside!
google avatar

Pratima M.

Yelp
A fun vegan ice cream spot tucked into a cute shopping plaza -- they served up super unique flavors. I'm generally a bit skeptical of vegan ice cream, but this one was honestly really great! You can definitlry tell it's vegan because it does have a little bit of that coconut taste and feels different texture-wise, but I would go back for sure. I loved both the ones I tried: California Cabin -- a super unique flavor mixed in with a spiced shortbread cookie. This was hands-down a winner. Chocolate Date -- rich, chocolate taste without being overwhelmingly sweet.
google avatar

Marah H.

Yelp
If you're looking for plant based ice cream you've found it!! I truly cannot appreciate them more for that fact. This adorable little parlor has such a wide variety of flavors and they are willing to offer samples if you are struggling to decide. The Strawberry and Beets is super delicious and so is the California Cabin. My partner likes the mint brownie. We purchased several pints at $14 a piece which really adds up but I guess when you're looking for plant based you typically spend a bit more to get it. Quite a bit more in this case. I also purchased a small cooler bag for $7 which was very reasonable in my opinion :) Stop in and give them a try!
google avatar

Nikki C.

Yelp
The service was quick and was able to give multiple samples to make sure you pick the flavor for you. ARE THEY BEING COVID SAFE? This was the first establishment where the employees did not wear masks or gloves. But they provide hand sanitizers. FOOD ITEM: Single scoop of Mint Brownie - very minty ice cream treat. Not my favorite ice cream at Frankie and Jo's. The service was quick but the ice cream selection this time around was not the best at the UV location. If you like vegan ice cream this is the place for you but the flavors are quite an interesting combination of ingredients. For more honest reviews and photos, follow my Instagram: @nvc.eats
google avatar

Luci L.

Yelp
Attention all vegan peeps, lactose-intolerant peeps, any peeps: this is the place to go for dessert or a lil treat when you're in the UW area! Many of the flavors here taste just like "normal" ice cream with very similar texture. Their chocolate tahini supercookie is amazing!! The only downside is that the scoops are fairly small for the price. A tantalizing mystery to me as a non-Seattle person is why Seattle, the land of dreary days, has so many ice cream shops and chains. Perhaps it's to fully take advantage of any sunny days that come along. There is plenty of free parking.
google avatar

Eva M.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Frankie and Jo's at the U Village. It was a beautiful day and justifiably, a line is formed outside the door. I was really bummed that they were out of a specialty flavor of the month - Guava Cake, which sounded amazing. I opted for the Beet Strawberry Rose, which was entirely flavorful and refreshing, not too sweet at all. This second choice worked out quite well for me. Hubby chose the Rhubarb Almond Tart, which he said was very tasty too. My mistake - I asked for a cone. I expected a normal cone. Next thing I see is the full size waffle cone, which was more than I wanted and more carbs than I wanted too. It's a thicker kind of cone too, which I didn't like. The words didn't come out of my mouth fast enough before she started scooping. Doh. Way too much food and an extra $2.50 for the cone. Ah well, lesson learned for next time.
google avatar

Kathy X.

Yelp
I'm actually impressed with how great this vegan ice cream tastes. It's great for my lactose fiancé, he can eat delicious ice cream to his hearts desire now I have a feeling we'll be back MANY times. I ordered the salty caramel ash, it's so unique, I definitely taste the salty bits, it's almost like a salted caramel ice cream. It's so creamy and the waffle has a nice crisp and bite to it. And the employees here are super nice!!
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
I love this ice cream place! Everything here is dairy free which is amazing since I'm lactose intolerant! The flavors are unique, similar to Molly Moon's. There's not as many flavor options, but they carry enough for you to find something you like. Lastly, the moon goo sauce is so good and tastes exactly like fudge!
google avatar

Philicia S.

Yelp
Always love their rotating and classic flavors. Enjoyed the mint chocolate chip today, daughter loved the brown sugar vanilla too. Several tables and chairs to sit on outside and such a cute ambience. Great service too!

Yelp
o v e r a l l: 4/5 Sometimes, vegan ice creams can be very icy due to the lack of fat in non-dairy milk. I expected the ice creams here to be similar but was pleasantly surprised the textures were similar to non-vegan ice creams. If someone didn't tell me Frankie & Joe's was 100% vegan, I would have never guessed. On top of that, they have unique flavors as well as your more common flavors. Overall, a solid place for vegan ice cream! m y r e c c o m m e n d a t i o n s - California Cabin w h a t d i d I t r y ? - California Cabin in a waffle cone: 4.5/5 An ice cream with "black pepper cardamom shortbread cookie chunks smoked vanilla & pine infused into a creamy coconut and oat milk base." I really like floral and spiced ice creams so this was right up my alley. The cardamom flavor really shined through, but without being overpowering. It did, in my opinion, overpower the smoked vanilla and pine flavors. I didn't mind since I chose the flavor expecting it to taste predominately of cardamon. I am also huge on textures. The small shortbread cookie chunks were not a soggy mush. There was still a bite to them. My only complaint would be I felt either the scoop was a little bit disproportionate to the waffle cone or the waffle cone was really drying. By the end of my cone, there was not enough ice cream and I felt all the moisture in my mouth was disappearing. I thought it was just me being dehydrated, but I had the same experience the second time I went. - Mint Brownie: 3/5 An ice cream with "chewy gluten-free brownie gems and perfectly bitter organic cocoa nibs to a cooling peppermint, coconut, and oat milk base." This is basically the equivalent of mint chocolate chip. It's not a bad flavor, but I also wasn't wowed by it like I was by the California Cabin flavor. Do take this rating with a grain of salt. I typically rate more common flavors harsher than the more unique flavors. - Chaga Chai (seasonal): 4/5 An ice cream with "chaga mushrooms, cinnamon, sunroot, ginger, and cardamom." I only sampled this flavor, but from the sample, it tastes exactly like an iced chai tea latte from Starbucks, but with a lot more flavor. Like California Cabin, the spice flavors (ie., chai and cinnamon) really shined through. I don't remember this flavor having any textural components though I wish it did. I typically love having something to chew in my ice cream. p r i c e I don't remember exactly the price, but I believe it was around $7 or $8 for 1 scoop with a waffle cone, which is comparable to the prices at other ice cream shops, such as Molly Moon and Salt & Straw. s e r v i c e: 5/5 I've been here 3 times, and every time, the people working are so nice. Though I am not a regular, I always feel I am visiting a friend at work and effortlessly engaging in conversation. The most recent time I went, the person working there was very patient in my company and I sampling flavors, contemplating which flavors to try, and literally fighting for the payment. When it was time for payment, they stated that tipping was optional. I would have tipped regardless, but I appreciated the comment. a t m o s p h e r e: 5/5 The place is small, but not tiny. The aesthetic and decorations are really cute so it makes a good picture! If we weren't in a pandemic and you wanted to eat your ice cream inside, there's nowhere to sit. There is a long table facing the window though. r a t i n g b r e a k d o w n 1: never ever again... 2: not very good, but at least something went right 3: average. 4: yummy, but something was lacking 5: everything was perfect! I HAVE TO GO AGAIN

Yelp
Frankie & Jo's is now has a U-Village location, it's near where Chipotle is at....just so you know and don't wander around looking for it on the other side where that new construction is at....like I did. I had to go to U-Village to pick up a something from a nearby store, so we decided to stop by. Friendly greetings as we entered, no samples are allowed at this time. I usually stick to the seasonal flavors so I got a scoop of the Eclipse and a scoop of the Blueberry Crisp. We also got a scoop of the Kale Lime Leaf and the Salty Caramel Ash(which is a regular everyday flavor). The seasonal flavors were good, blueberry crisp was my favorite, it tasted like blueberry pie. Kale Lime Leaf, I'm not a big fan of Kale but it tasted more lime to me, which was actually not bad. Eclipse, is a seasonal flavor that's been around, back by popular demand, it's good! Check the website for specifics for each flavor. Staff was nice, friendly, quick to scoop it up for you. Prices may have gone up a dollar or two. All vegan, all delicious! I'm not even remotely close to a vegan, but this "ice cream" is so good! Glad they have multiple locations around town!

Yelp
Note that Frankie & Jo's IS OPEN during COVID for TAKEOUT! My friends and I decided to come here on a nice sunny trip to U-Ville. I've heard of Frankie & Jo's and their vegan ice cream before, but never made it out to their original Capitol Hill location. I was therefore excited when they opened up in UVille just last week! Similar to Molly Moons and other local ice cream stores, they rotate their flavors on a monthly basis. Their seasonal flavors this month include: kale lime leaf, blueberry crisp, & eclipse (coconut/chocolate). I ordered a regular (two flavor) sized salted caramel ash and blueberry crisp in a gluten free waffle cone. My friends ordered the california cabin and kale lime leaf. With tip, my total came to about $10, which is definitely on the more expensive side for an ice cream cone. The blueberry crisp had huge chunks of crisp in it, but not a super strong blueberry flavor. The texture was nice and smooth though. The salted caramel ash had a very strong salted caramel taste. I've never had charcoal ice cream before, but it didn't really taste like anything different. It just tasted like salted caramel ice cream so I think it was more for color than anything else. The scoopers were friendly and were wearing masks and gloves. There is also a plastic barrier between customers and the scoopers. The entire process is non-contact, including payment. The only thing I didn't like was that they ask you which tip button (10%, 15%, or 20%) you want them to press for you. I felt kind of pressured to tip a certain amount. Overall: 3/5 for ice cream, 4/5 for service, 5/5 for health and safety measures

Yelp
Welcome to U-Village, Frankie & Jo's! I had no idea there was a Frankie and Jo's location at U-Village until we visited one day and walked around the area after an appointment nearby. It was a pleasant surprise to find F&J here, as a hot day called for ice cream! I am not vegan nor am I lactose-intolerant. I don't go out of my way to eat plant-based foods. And I like cream and dairy. I believe that ice cream tastes better the creamier it is. Yet, there's something special about this Frankie & Jo's. I mean, I've visited the Capitol Hill location, but the flavors I had here made me a believer of plant-based foods! Can you believe it? The shop is open during COVID-19; however, they ask that only two parties are allowed in the shop. So when we visited there was a short line outside the door. I was able to bring my dog inside with me, which the staff allowed and loved. Yay that it's dog-friendly! I told the employee that I love chocolate, so wanted to get a chocolate-based flavor. Since they do not allow tastings right now, it was helpful that the employees were knowledgeable about the different flavors. The employee recommended the chocolate tahini supercookie and mentioned that their seasonal, the eclipse was also a good chocolate-based one with coconut flavor. SOLD. I ordered a scoop of each in a waffle cone. And I had to get my dog a kid's scoop of the vanilla! Duh. OMGGGG! I don't remember liking Frankie & Jo's this much when I had it years ago at the Capitol Hill location. Perhaps because I had different flavors? Regardless, these chocolate flavors were awesome! The chocolate tahini supercookie was made with dark chocolate, which is my favorite kind of chocolate, and had chunks of the supercookie dough and bits of the cacao nibs. Amaze-ballz. The eclipse flavor was also delicious, with the toasted coconut pieces and the sunbutter cups! At first I had no idea what sunbutter cups were, but they basically are like peanut butter cups, with the same mushy, creamy texture and a crisp chocolate shell. Get the eclipse before the season ends! I don't often visit U-Village, but this is now my go-to place for ice cream when I'm shopping around here. Move over, Molly Moon's! Loved the chocolate flavors and friendly staff! This is a great addition to the area. (So can we get one on the eastside, please?)

Yelp
Staff is friendly and helpful! I couldn't decide what to get since the flavor I wanted was sold out for the day, the guy helping me was great with recommendations and paying attention to my allergens. This place has a fun, bright colored vibe. But isn't a place to really sit down and work as seating is minimal.

Yelp
Like this location, glad U-Vill has a vegan option of ice cream for folks! Definitely makes it easier to hit up both F&J and MM's in one day or visit. Service was fast and friendly. They are offering samples again too. The seasonal options are good, the chocolate in the tahini banana is a nice touch. My partner enjoyed the watermelon sorbet and said it was good but you need to be in the mood for it, her go to is the date shake and she always gets it. No matter the location, the date shake is always consistent.

Yelp
Love Frankie & Jo's and was excited to try a new location. They had my favorite - California campfire - and the spiced waffle cones I love. As with my first experience, it's hard to believe it's vegan. Only downside is the *crazy* prices, super expensive for ice cream but happy to pay for such a unique treat.

Yelp
I'm normally not into vegan things, but was intrigued enough by their flavor offerings to give this place a try and I'm glad I did! This little shop is adorable and their plant-based ice creams are actually delicious! We stopped in over the weekend and were excited they were doing samples, so of course we tried almost all of their unique flavors. The salty caramel ash tasted exactly how it sounds and the most interesting to me was the California cabin, which tasted exactly how pine needles smell. How the heck do they do that?! Anyway, I ended up going middle of the road and got a scoop of the date ice cream. It was smooth, creamy and sweet with a nice date flavor. I could easily eat it without feeling overwhelmed with a super crazy flavor profile. 10/10, vegan ice cream is now a thing for me.

Yelp
Wow! I am SO IMPRESSED with Frankie & Jo's! Everything is plant based and gluten free (and incredible)! I got a standard cone (split scoop) of mint chocolate brownie and chocolate date. Both flavors were SO good. Very creamy and hard to tell it was vegan. The chocolate date had a stronger coconut flavor than the mint - so if you aren't a big coconut person I would suggest the mint or a different flavor. The cone was super tasty especially for being gluten free. I ended up paying 13$ (a little pricey for ice cream) but it was honestly totally worth it and it hit the spot!
