Detroit’s Biggest Restaurant and Bar Openings, July 2025 | Eater Detroit

"A former Ann Arbor cafe reborn in the Bunny Bunny space, specializing in breakfast and lunch plates such as ricotta toast topped with berries and honey, a barbacoa breakfast sandwich, and a tuna melt. The egg sandwich is highlighted as one of Detroit’s best — loaded with velvety scrambled eggs, Tillamook cheddar, avocado, and spicy mayo and served on a Zingerman’s challah roll. The cafe is open until 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday." - Jeffy Mai

Detroit’s Best Breakfast Sandwiches | Eater Detroit

"Fred’s is a newcomer to Gratiot Avenue, having just opened in the former Bunny Bunny space — though it might be familiar to folks who recall its tenure in Ann Arbor. It’s got a great list of thoughtful breakfast and lunch items like avocado toast with a fried egg, a spicy chicken cutlet sandwich with cheddar and spicy mayo, and a gooey tuna melt with tomato and Gruyere. The breakfast sandwich is especially smooth and velvety, too. It’s a simple, buttery sandwich featuring soft scrambled free-range eggs, Tillamook cheddar, sliced avocado, and spicy mayo on a Zingerman’s challah roll. This spot also accepts online orders." - Danny Palumbo

This place was recommended to me by a chef friend, so I stopped by for a very late lunch on a rainy Saturday and had the market plate breakfast. It hit the spot for something quick and light.

Food is crazy. Got the breakfast burrito. Mango salsa was fresh, barbacoa was delicious. Eggs were literally cooked perfect. Like Gordon Ramsay style. Not to mention the music selection. Fire. Great place. Lil expensive. 20$ for a diet coke and a burrito. But definitely worth it.

First of all, this is quite possibly my newest favorite spot to grab a bite in Detroit. What a gem. The food is incredible, fresh, with generous portions. I had the papaya salad and my partner had the brown rice bowl. Along with a smoothie and delicious strawberry iced matcha. I cannot wait to come back here & become a regular. SO GOOD!!!

Cozy little spot where Fred himself greets you like you’ve been friends for years. We grabbed some sandwiches and smoothies — all legit — and he even threw in a surprise item just because someone said it sounded good. Who does that? Fred does. Cool vibe, great food, and bonus points for the free snack.

Fred’s Delivers on Healthy Comfort Food in Detroit ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars) Detroit’s breakfast and lunch scene just got a major upgrade with Fred’s, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have discovered this Eastern Market neighborhood treasure. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly balances modern aesthetics with cozy comfort—think fresh flowers on every table and thoughtfully curated details that make you want to linger. What truly sets Fred’s apart is their commitment to proving that healthy eating doesn’t mean sacrificing flavor or satisfaction. Their breakfast sandwich is a masterclass in execution: perfectly melted cheese cascading over what appears to be an expertly prepared egg, all nestled in a beautifully golden, artisanal bun. The attention to detail is evident—even the black pepper sprinkled on top shows they care about the final presentation. My favorite so far is the Brown Rice Bowl with grilled chicken with a strawberry matcha. The presentation of every dish and drink is Instagram-worthy without trying too hard. That gorgeous ridged plate elevating the breakfast sandwich? The fresh flower arrangements? The contemporary art work adorning the walls? These touches show that Fred’s understands that we eat with our eyes first, and they’re clearly committed to making every meal feel special. What impressed me most was how Fred’s has cracked the code on healthy dining—this isn’t rabbit food or bland “wellness” cuisine. This is thoughtful, delicious food that happens to be good for you. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and you leave feeling energized rather than deprived. The service is always attentive without being overbearing, and despite being a newer establishment, they’ve clearly worked out the kinks. Food arrived promptly and at the perfect temperature. Detroit has needed a place like Fred’s—somewhere you can grab a quick, healthy breakfast before work or settle in for a leisurely lunch with friends, knowing you’re fueling your body with quality ingredients. Whether you’re a health-conscious foodie or just someone who appreciates well-executed comfort food, Fred’s delivers on all fronts. This is the kind of neighborhood spot that becomes a regular habit, and frankly, Detroit is lucky to have it. **What to order:** Don’t miss the breakfast sandwich if you’re there in the morning, and definitely try the brown rice bowl. **Perfect for:** Solo dining, casual meetings, weekend brunch with friends, or when you want to eat well without the fuss of a formal dining experience.

Yelp
Another wonderful breakfast at Fred's!! Enjoyed the Market Breakfast Plate - greens, very yummy and spicy tomato harissa, fingerling potatoes & zingermans sourdough. And, Avocado Toast - Avocado Toast avocado, free-range sunny side up eggs, pickled red onion, arugula & balsamic on zingermans sourdough. Sipped drip coffee with almond milk and vanilla flavor. What a way to start a Saturday!

Yelp
This is the cutest new breakfast/lunch diner in the Eastern market area. A couple of outdoor tables are available and they have some seating inside as well. The look inside is simple and very clean cute vibe. All of the ingredients here are super fresh and high quality- literally have never seen a more perfect avocado on my bowl. I just wish they were open on Mondays but hopefully that will come in time!
