Yelp
I'm afraid Fu Shen disappointed us despite all the rave reviews. We placed a big takeout order: mushu with tofu, garlic long beans, sesame chicken, orange chicken, and rice.
The good: the owner was extremely nice, took our phone order, and explained she would bring it out to the parking lot when we arrived. This made things very easy. The portions are exceedingly generous. I am used to the white fold-up Chinese takeout boxes, but each one of these dishes came in a large styrofoam takeout box which was filled to the brim. I was shocked when I saw her carrying two heavy plastic bags toward us--I had not meant to order so much food! Also, the flavor of the sesame and orange chicken dishes was a pretty good balance of sweet and savory. I preferred the taste of the sesame chicken.
The not-so-good: there was not a single dish that we would order again. Part of the problem was both chicken dishes were made entirely of thigh meat, which we don't like. But that's a personal preference, one that I know others don't share, and one that I should have asked about when ordering. My bad. For those who like thigh meat, the chicken was juicy and well-cooked! The mushu on the other hand was a totally over-cooked SLOP. The flavor was fine, and the sauce and wraps were standard. But the soupy, mushy mushu was just not appetizing at all. The garlic green beans were nothing special and lacked flavor except for garlic. They were fine, just not something I'd seek out again. Finally, ascertaining prices in advance is hard as the online photos of the menu are years old.
I can imagine there are plenty of people for whom this place would be enticing, as other reviews attest, and it may be that our experience was just a bad combination of our own mistakes and the specific dishes we ordered. But sadly my conclusion is that this will not become a regular takeout spot for us.
