10 Stand-Out Steaks in Unexpected NYC Restaurants | Eater NY

"This Sunset Park restaurant aimed at Taiwanese millennials offers great Black Angus steaks expertly flame grilled, but with some unusual accoutrements. The main course is preceded by baguette toasts squiggled with sweetened condensed milk. The sirloin or ribeye itself arrives cooked to order on a bed of spaghetti, along with a fried egg and a vegetable mélange, making a nice alternative to the usual bovine platings." - Eater Staff

This is quite the little gem in Aurora! We have been going here about 20 years or so, and it had always had consistently good food, and the owners are really nice. During COVID, they went to take-out only, so you get a bit of a thrill pulling up to the back door and waiting for someone to come out. :-) We have tried many of the dishes here, and all have been good. Some of our favorites are the Soft Egg and Prawn, Curry Beef, Mongolian Beef, and House Special Fried Rice. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Google
Don't let the exterior fool you. There's good eats to be found here. They have the classic Chinese dishes you'd expect, and they do it really well. I tried the Beef Chow Funn Gravy Style today and it's now my go-to dish. Everything about it was delicious, and I can't wait for my leftovers for lunch tomorrow. They also make their orange chicken, general tso's, and sesame chicken with a batter before it's fried, and it always turns out great. It somehow remains crispy. I think if you're craving Chinese take-out, this place will hit the spot. Also, if you're looking for a big portion, then you definitely need to come here.

Google
Literally my favorite restaurant ever. My family has been going here for my whole life and it's like comfort food for me. Everything is soooo delicious, but my favorites are the General TSO's Chicken, which has the right amount of sweet and spice, the handmade Chow Mein that comes with beef and brocolli, and the Egg Drop Soup. Also try the egg rolls, crab Rangoon, and honestly anything because it's going to be delicious. The family who runs the business is so kind and professional, especially the owner, who is just the sweetest woman. Love Fu Shen so much!! 💗

Google
Luckily my husband and I already knew we wanted to order to go. We get there and it’s locked but a woman comes to take our order and we will never forget her friendly and caring energy! The food was delicious and fresh and hot even when we got back to the hotel. I can tell they cut chicken pieces themselves and fry them for the sweet and sour dish. Thank you! We’ll be back when we return to Seattle!

Google
This is the place to go when ur craving that orange chicken. Takeout only, really sweet owners

Google
This place is good. Good portion size. Good flavors. This is the old school OG American style Chinese flavors from my childhood. We ordered take out so can't speak to the atmosphere but the food was definitely good. Will be ordering again for sure.

Google
Fu Shen is a local Chinese food restaurant that has a decently large menu with good sized portions at a great price. The staff here is incredibly nice and can recommend things based off your likes. The parking situation is a bit rough outside as there isn't much spots, so be patient when finding a parking spot. Call to order ahead if possible as it will make things much easier.

Google
Friend discovered. Take out only. Closed Wednesday for family day❤️. My friend got the Szechuan chicken, was super happy with it. The Moo Shu pork I ordered was some of the best I have had in Seattle. The only reason I didn't rate it five stars was because generally, it is served with hoisin sauce. I didn't think to double check. It wasn't included and I didn't have any at home so I was bummed out. We placed the order, it was brought out to our car and we paid the nicest lady. The prices were good. The portions were great.

Yelp
Looooved this spot! We ordered takeout over the phone and when we got there, the woman was so sweet and brought it out to the car. The food was delish! Just what we were looking for in a Chinese takeout night. We got beef with broccoli, chow mein, and sesame chicken.

Yelp
Amazing family Chinese restaurant, order the Beef Chow Fun dry style- the beef is tender and tasty, the noodles and veggies are fresh and vibrant. BBQ pork fried rice, and East Coast pork ribs. I order this every time and it's always perfect. The honey walnut shrimp is good too, but you can't go wrong with: BBQ pork fried rice East Coast spare ribs Beef Chow Fun Family business and 'mama' is the sweetest lady ever. Take-out orders only, no dine-in available. Best authentic Chinese in N Seattle

Yelp
Awesome service, and tasty food, there is no seated service. So you just wait in your car. And order on the phone. So ambiance doesn't count. If you like decent servings it's a great place for some Chinese. I recommend the chow mein, with handmade noodles. Or general chicken. I would give it 4 stars with no inside service. But she's so nice.

Yelp
I came here for take out dinner for Christmas Eve. It was incredibly busy, and when I received my food, I can see why. The food is really good, I ordered the chicken chowmein , broccoli beef, and sesame chicken. My favorite of the 3 items I tried would have to be the sesame chicken. But all of the food was very good. I would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
Decent Chinese American take out in a pinch. Ordering over the phone is easy and pick up is also convenient as they bring it out curbside. You'll get familiar flavors when you order classics like the orange chicken and Peking pork. They come very sauced up. Maybe even too sauced up? To a point where some bites were just spoonfuls of gloop. We made sure to try their noodles and substitute for their handmade noodles as everyone here had suggested but these fell a little flat for me. The char soy protein we chose was extremely dry and the noodles themselves lacked any kind of flavor which I had predicted as they were a very dull color and didn't seem to take on any of the sauce it was cooked in. Less sauce for the proteins, more sauce for the noodles!

Yelp
Local favorite | amazing service | handmade noodles| covid safe | to-go spot Always a great choice for Chinese in the North Seattle area. Food is fast and the owners are so incredibly friendly and welcoming. Food is usually quite fast and in large portions which makes it great for feeding a family or a group. The must get items are the handmade noodles and the pot stickers which are huge! They offer a large variety of classic options and a few more traditional ones as well. The fried chicken is amazing and super crispy! Don't be distracted by its outward appearance. This place really is worth a try. Great to-go spot!

Yelp
We were craving Chinese take out and decided to give Fu Shen a try. We pulled up in the parking lot thinking we could go inside and order to go, but the employee came out and let us know to call. She brought a menu out to our car and was super nice! We called in our order and waited maybe 15-20 minutes and it was done. The lady came back out again to take out card payment and brought us the food. The service was so good and she made us feel like family. The food was really good too. It hit the spot for Chinese-American take out. The portions were large and I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Theresa A.

Yelp
I was craving some fried rice and ordered the combo fried rice with egg flower soup. Unfortunately, this did not hit the spot. The rice grains were hard, the fried rice was bland, the soup was also bland. However, 5 stars for service. The lady who took my order met me outside (to go) and delivered my food with such a pleasant attitude.

Kyla Patricia A.

Yelp
I was violently craving noodles and looked up a spot near by. Fu Shen was what I decided on. Be sure to call ahead as you could not order in person. They will bring the food to your car after you hand over your payment. The house special chow mein was soooo flavorful. They had lots of protein and veggies. It's definitely a great bang for your buck!

Yelp
This was our first time getting takeout/food from here. We both got orange chicken and rice. The food was AMAZING. Loved the chicken and the rice went perfectly. The service was wonderful and the staff were insanely friendly. My friend and I had a great experience here. The prices were impressive as well! This was very worth it, and I'll definitely be going back.
google avatar

Yelp
Take out only. Service was great! The lady was super friendly. I called from the parking lot, and she asked, "Are you the one outside?" She took my order and came out to grab my credit card. I wanted to like this place because of the friendly service, but the food didn't hit the mark. I ordered Mapo tofu with meat and rice for $19. The meat had a strange seafood taste, and the rice was stale. I ended up eating just the tofu and tossing the rest. I'll probably give it another try, but I wanted to remind myself with this review.

Yelp
We ordered takeout and the lady we spoke to was super nice. We have ordered here around 2 times now and I absolutely love the customer service. 5/5 for customer service. The food is really good westernized Chinese food however I found their salt and pepper chicken was not salty enough. Their chow mein and fried rice tho was amazing! And everything else was pretty great! For reference we had their General Tso's Chicken, sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, salty fish and chicken fried rice, house special fried rice, and their chicken chow mein with their homemade noodle. The food was absolutely great! We never went inside the restaurant so I unfortunately have no comments on the ambience. But overall we had a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend this establishment.

Yelp
This is probably another low key hidden gem restaurant spot around Highway 99. After Covid, they only do take out now. So, no dine in. Call before going. They got plenty of good deal and food on their menu. It's definitely tasty and worth it. I came here couple of times already!
google avatar

Yelp
Take out Only - Service (5/5) - The woman who took our order, was very friendly and super excited. She specially came outside to deliver the food also, give us a menu if we would like to order it again. Food (4/5) - We ordered vegetable handmade noodles/chow mein and one chicken kung Po with rice. The vegetables in chow mein were very fresh and flavorful. The handmade noodles (+$4) were totally worth it. The sauce in Kung Po chicken was subtle and flavorful. Quantity (5/5) - The total bill was $40 for two people. We ate in dinner as well as lunch ($10 per meal)
google avatar

Celina S.

Yelp
Takeout only! This is by no means a "traditional" Chinese restaurant but we will definitely start including this place in the rotation for when we're feeling some Americanized Chinese food. We ordered the beef chow fun, broccoli beef, and orange chicken and it was all good! I think the prices were a tiny bit high but since it's takeout it works out in the end. The owner was so nice too, we want to support and try more dishes here!
google avatar

Heather Y.

Yelp
Food is good. Owner who helped take our order was super sweet. They only do take out though, so call in your order beforehand. Def worth a take out night!
google avatar

Jay L.

Yelp
I've been eating here for 20years. Absolutely the best service and food! I went weekly until they moved more south a few years ago but I stop in whenever I can! Jenny is the best
google avatar

Marjorie H.

Yelp
It was fast and courteous service yet considering there was only the noodles and the chicken no vegetables for a chicken chow mein for $18 was a little disappointing.

Maxim L.

Yelp
Very good service. Super kind lady who brought out the food to our car because it was cold out and was very nice to me. The food portions were very large (chow fun) and the egg rolls were also large.

Jack W.

Yelp
Exactly what I needed. Amazing food and friendly staff. Had the orange chicken was crispy and saucy all at the same time will be going back for more :)

Toni F.

Yelp
Jenny is the best!!! We have been going to Fu Shen's since 1996. The best, freshest and tastiest! Highly recommend.

Yelp
I was craving Chinese food because I was missing back home and as I was scrolling through Yelp, I found this place. Let me tell you, the food and the portion is great for the price! It's authentic Chinese food. It reminded me of home and I highly recommend this place if you're in the area. It is a takeout place only, but "Mama" which is the owner was very friendly and nice when I placed the order on the phone. You park in the back of the restaurant and she will bring the food out to you. She also gave me a side of broccoli as well! I ordered the orange chicken ($15), house special chow mein with homemade noodle ($13+$4) and the house special fried rice ($13). Mama provided me a menu for future returns.

Lauren N.

Yelp
Finally good general tsos chicken in north Seattle! I've been looking everywhere and absolutely miserable. The chicken is fresh, juicy, high quality, and the sauce is delicious and abundant. The lady who brought me my food was very nice. One star removed bc they don't have anywhere to eat. This is a takeout only place. I would also say they need to update the website with new prices bc my chicken was 22.55 including tax. Very good tho and big portions

Jessica S.

Yelp
Great place for Chinese take out. I found this place during Covid and it is my go to spot now. They give you big portions and definitely get your moneys worth. The owners are super nice and friendly!
google avatar

Sally B.

Yelp
Yuann took my phone order and had Nordstrom friendliness. The food was hot, tasty and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the home made noodles with our chicken and vegetables, garlic chicken and fried rice. The egg drop souo was pure comfort. Yuann is the most gracious and kind person. We will return the next time we visit Aunt Doreen. And in the photos below, two of us had taken servings already!

Alex B.

Yelp
The best. The lady who runs it is super nice. I think it's takeout only now. I recommend the homemade noodles and the orange chicken.
google avatar

Harshmeet S.

Yelp
We took a take out order and the food was really good. The kung pao chicken and their hand made noodles were great. I will recommend this place for vegetarians as well. The lady who took our order was really nice and even handed us some menus to order next time, we did not have to wait much after ordering. Everything tasted fresh!
google avatar

Moira H.

Yelp
Food is so delicious and service is fabulous!! Beef Chow Mein with homemade noodles, Moo Su Pork, really every dish I tried is delicious. FYI - Take out only right now.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Truly wonderful. I've gotten food from Fu Shen a good number of times now and it's always so delicious. The menu is very extensive with tons of options and very reasonable prices. I branched out to start, but now I just get the Beef Chow Mein with Handmade Noodles. Trust me, the extra $3 for the noodles is SO worth it. They're so incredibly good and I crave them always. On top of the food being good, the woman who I always see working there is so lovely. She is incredibly kind and sweet plus gets you your food so fast. Today she even reminded me to drink lots of water in preparation for the hot days ahead. Fantastic restaurant and I love them to pieces.
google avatar

Elron H.

Yelp
Way back in the 80's this place was an Italian restaurant. 37 years later and now you go Fushen! You like!

Jesse P.

Yelp
got the hand pulled chow fun house special. Noodles were great, the seasoning was inconsistent. Some noodles were barely seasoned and others were modestly seasoned. I have no idea how you can manage this in wok cooking, but its possible somehow I suppose. Overall far more bland than I was anticipating, but it is Seattle... Also the prices have gone up substantially since the menu was published. Menu says $8 for the dish with the hand pulled noodle upcharge of $3 - $12 plus tax should be $13.25 - was charge $18.75. Also the door was locked as its on a sketchy bit of Aurora. I feel bad because it seems like the neighborhood went to S%/t around them and they are just struggling to stay afloat, but it was all a little much.

Melissa L.

Yelp
This is our neighborhood, Chinese food and it is delicious. The best thing is the homemade lo mein noodles and the homestyle chow mein noodle. It is the best chow mein I have had super friendly and consistent.

Mary K.

Yelp
This is a regular takeout spot for me - the food is great and the people who work there are even better. Takeout only, they're very efficient with pickup just call when you arrive. If you go often enough they'll remember you! They're very sweet people :)
google avatar

Maryam G.

Yelp
I'm afraid Fu Shen disappointed us despite all the rave reviews. We placed a big takeout order: mushu with tofu, garlic long beans, sesame chicken, orange chicken, and rice. The good: the owner was extremely nice, took our phone order, and explained she would bring it out to the parking lot when we arrived. This made things very easy. The portions are exceedingly generous. I am used to the white fold-up Chinese takeout boxes, but each one of these dishes came in a large styrofoam takeout box which was filled to the brim. I was shocked when I saw her carrying two heavy plastic bags toward us--I had not meant to order so much food! Also, the flavor of the sesame and orange chicken dishes was a pretty good balance of sweet and savory. I preferred the taste of the sesame chicken. The not-so-good: there was not a single dish that we would order again. Part of the problem was both chicken dishes were made entirely of thigh meat, which we don't like. But that's a personal preference, one that I know others don't share, and one that I should have asked about when ordering. My bad. For those who like thigh meat, the chicken was juicy and well-cooked! The mushu on the other hand was a totally over-cooked SLOP. The flavor was fine, and the sauce and wraps were standard. But the soupy, mushy mushu was just not appetizing at all. The garlic green beans were nothing special and lacked flavor except for garlic. They were fine, just not something I'd seek out again. Finally, ascertaining prices in advance is hard as the online photos of the menu are years old. I can imagine there are plenty of people for whom this place would be enticing, as other reviews attest, and it may be that our experience was just a bad combination of our own mistakes and the specific dishes we ordered. But sadly my conclusion is that this will not become a regular takeout spot for us.

Landry B.

Yelp
Great food and service would recommend to everyone so delicious!!!!!!! Great food everytime

Yelp
I must admit, I was pretty surprised by this place (in a good way!). Located along the sketchy street of Aurora, Fu Shen is pretty hard to miss since it's right on the main road. Parking is a little tricky (since the lot is pretty small). The restaurant itself is actually bigger than it seems. Came here for dinner and left the place very satisfied. :) For the food, this is what I ate: -Seafood fried rice: YUM. Love the flavor and the portion was pretty large. -Crab soup: YUM YUM. I've been to a variety of Chinese places and I have to admit, Fu Shen does a stellar job at this soup. Couldn't stop sipping on this during the dinner. -Honey Walnut Prawns: YUM. Love the huge prawns with minimal breading. Sauce was a tad too thick on the mayo side but overall, this was tasty. -Sweet & Sour Pork: Decent dish. Breading was a wee bit thick to the meat ratio but overall, another solid tasty dish. Service: Shout out to the kind lady who made me some hot tea, even when it's not on the menu :) Overall, service was great. Definitely recommend Fu Shen if you're craving Americanized Chinese food. Prices are affordable, portions are huge, and man.....the wait time for the food = super quick. Overall, a win win for this place.

Irving R.

Yelp
Since moving to Seattle I've been looking for a solid Chinese restaurant and have been dissatisfied a few times. That is until I tried Fu shen! From the moment I called to place a order to the first bite, I was extremely pleased with this place. If you're looking for solid Chinese and exceptional service I would go here.

Ben H.

Yelp
This is some bland ass Chinese food. I would not suggest the house chow mein nor the twice cooked pork. Two stars instead of one because the owner is pleasant. I also went to pick-up, and I was made to wait outside with the front door locked 30 minutes before closing. Not taking it personal, it's just basically back to COVID style service (as of Feb 2024).
google avatar

Ally D.

Yelp
We moved up north from Kent about a year ago, and while we are "closer" to ID it's still a bit of a trek. Luckily we found Fu Shen, which is not only a very close drive, it's delicious too! So far, we've loved everything from there - General Tso's, beef chow fun, house chow mein, and the list goes on. Plus, the lady there is just the nicest! It's become our new to-go for a random take out night, and also of course for the holidays!

SHeila R.

Yelp
Mediocre food all of it . Will never go back. The lady was nice but overcharged for my meal and I would not have minded if it was good . Awful . Worst wonton soup ever .I could go on and on but awful.
google avatar

Jenn M.

Yelp
I love the homemade chow mein noodles and all the food we've tried so far. It is take out/pick up only, but worth it. Also the owner is really friendly. This was recommended to me by a friend and I'm so glad it was, I've driven by a million times!
google avatar

Hua N.

Yelp
You couldn't tell from the outside but they have some of the best American Chinese food in the area. In particular is the orange chicken and green beans and garlic. Food is top notch and very good quality. The owner is very friendly and is known as "mama". Love this place when I lived in the area, but still will travel there when I get a craving.

James C.

Yelp
Incredibly friendly staff and their orange chicken is amazing! First place we came to when we moved to Seattle and it has been our go to ever since!
google avatar

Doris W.

Yelp
This to me is pretty Americanized Chinese food. If you come in here with that mind set, you will leave happy. Also, they have big portions. I was really craving some Chinese food the other night, so we decided to try this place out. It was not busy for a Friday night, seemed like a lot of there business is done with food delivery services, like Uber Eats or something along those lines. Pricing wise, you can order presets from anywhere from $14/per person and up. We chose a preset menu that included Walnut Shrimp (my fave!) and it was $17/person, 2 orders required. So Cody and I got: - Chinese ribs - Egg drop soup and hot and sour soup - Orange Chicken - Walnut shrimp - Egg rolls - rice - potstickers we order separately I really enjoyed the walnut shrimp and the orange chicken. The egg rolls were kinda awful. Don't get them. I didn't even finish my egg roll, it was really bland. Again, Americanized Chinese food. I also liked the potstickers, the dough was a little on the thicker side though. Still good to me! Oh the ribs were awful too. Really overcooked. 4 stars for quantity of the Americanized Chinese food.

Mikala G.

Yelp
Me and my fiancée have been coming here since we moved to Seattle in 2017! We always order the same things, chicken chow mein with the homemade noodles and the combo dinner with sweet/sour chicken and beef chow mein. They're our comfort meals for sure! Also they are so friendly and it's the best being a "regular." It's so fun to be recognized and we always look forward to seeing them
google avatar

Cliff O.

Yelp
Ordered my food over the phone which was easy and the owner walked the food out to my car despite the rain which was great! Unfortunately I found the food overall bland which was disappointing. The wonton soup had no green onions in the broth, lacked much flavor at all. The pork egg rolls also were really plain. Only the duck sauce made them palatable. The Mongolian beef "spicy" was American 1-star, I couldn't taste much, no ginger, tons and tons of onions. Very large portions but I'm not sure I even want to save it for later :(

A P.

Yelp
We weren't aware that this restaurant is takeout only. That being said, we received excellent customer service. We were brought a menu, and some candy while we waited for our order. We ordered 3 different dishes and all of them were fresh and delicious. I would definitely order again when I'm in the area.

Brian L.

Yelp
I'm Cantonese and from Vancouver, lived in Hong Kong. This place is a gem, tasty and legit HK style food.
