"This charming Chinatown newcomer, run by the same folks behind nearby upscale Chinese spot Jiang Nan, is making waves for its plump, juicy Shanghainese soup dumplings — which arrive to the table in a birdcage, no less — as well as a luxurious roast duck presented in a treasure chest with different drawers filled with slices of duck alongside the other components like julienned cucumber and mung bean sprouts." - Erika Adams, Valerie Li Stack

"After a brief renovation following Gourmet China House’s abrupt closure, the group behind the high-end spot Jiang Nan on Tremont Street has transformed the space into a bright and modern restaurant with a dumpling-making station, where you can watch skilled staff meticulously and swiftly folding xiao long bao, Shanghainese soup dumpling. It offers an array of classics from Shanghai and its surrounding areas, from red braised lion’s head (meatball) and sweet and sour pork spareribs to scallion noodles and shiitake mushroom chicken stew." - Erika Adams, Valerie Li Stack, Eater Staff

"You can’t really go wrong with any dish you try at this large, often-packed spot that opened in late 2023 in the former Gourmet China House space in Chinatown. The Peking duck is a star, as is the crowd-pleasing bok choy with mushrooms, and the chef’s special tofu in brown sauce. Really, though, dig into your fill of soup dumplings, like crab and traditional pork. The rainbow dumplings come six to an order, with each of the hued dumplings boasting different proteins." - Nathan Tavares, Valerie Li Stack, Eater Staff

See how inappropriately the dishes were served in the poorly selected plates. The rice is served with a tiny long stemmed fork, and, the chicken with scallion tastes sour with some odd aftertaste, I suspect msg. Eggplant was decent, but the flavor is shallow, all of them. The rice was served to the individual serving plate that was way too shallow, and the rice grains are easily tossed to the table and it became unnecessary struggle and distraction before we enjoyed the food. The waiter was uninterested to my polite complaint. And from his reaction, it won't change their poor plating choices. And they never came to ask how the food was or pour the water to our empty glasses. So, I asked if the owners are young. Yes, in their 30s. Some decent styles over the actual food taste and how they are served. The experience part is quite lacking. For us, it was a Messy lunch and the food quality was typical for a food court level. 3/5 and disappointing.

Google
Great place for soup dumplings They have lots of (colorful) options The dough did break more easily compared to other soup dumplings I had elsewhere Ordering through the QR code works very well and the waiters come to check your order The food was delicious and also liked how it was set up Why 2 stars for atmosphere? The floor near the bathrooms were extremely slippery ans I almost fell. The bathrooms were very very dirty also you can’t see from the outside if they are occupied Hope they improve the sanitary situation Will come back to check it out

Phenomenal dumplings! Service is fast and efficient. You order on your phone using a QR code but hen the server comes over to confirm your order. They also let you know if something you ordered may take a bit longer. These dumplings are all made fresh to order. We loved the truffle soup dumplings. Really great flavor combo. The Big Soup Dumpling does not compromise on taste and is as good if not better than any other soup dumplings I’ve ever had. The 1/2 Peking duck was truly fantastic. Absolutely recommend if you are a dumpling lover!!

I was really looking forward to this place because of the great reviews, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The customer service wasn’t the best, but we decided to focus on the food. We ordered soup dumplings, spicy General Tso’s chicken, and hot and sour soup. The soup was decent, but instead of General Tso’s, they brought out sesame chicken, which was sweet instead of spicy. When we pointed it out, they didn’t remake the dish—instead, they took the same sesame chicken back and attempted to turn it into General tso. The sweetness was still there, and the whole dish felt like a lazy fix. It completely ruined our meal, and to top it off, they still charged us for it. The only redeeming part was the soup dumplings, which is why I’m giving this place 1 out of 5 instead of 0. Definitely not coming back.

Google
We approve! The service was excellent to start but some of their servers are talking too loud (over the loud music, minus one star to 4*). The flavours are good (4*). Music choice was bad but overall atmosphere was decent (3*). The one big drawback was their dumpling wrapper were too thick and too al dente, telling us the skill are average. But the filling flavour was very good.

Delicious Food and a Festive Atmosphere at Fuchun Ju We visited Fuchun Ju on Christmas Day, and Chinatown was alive with energy—it was wonderful to see. The restaurant was packed, with every table filled, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. Despite the high demand, the waitstaff did an impressive job keeping everyone happy, even improvising with paper plates when they ran out of regular ones. We found it charming and part of the experience. The food was excellent. I ordered the General Gao’s Chicken, which was perfectly crispy with a flavorful, intricate sauce—one of the best versions I’ve had. We also tried a variety of soup dumplings, and while most were delicious, the yellow dumpling (likely with truffle oil) was a bit overpowering for my taste. My son particularly enjoyed the pork bao buns, which were soft, savory, and satisfying. Overall, Fuchun Ju delivered a memorable dining experience with delicious food, even under the pressure of a busy holiday service. It’s a spot we’ll definitely return to whenever we’re in downtown. Highly recommended!

Google
We came here on Thanksgiving for lunch. We didn't order any soup dumplings (小笼包) as we can tell those are not freshly made in restaurant but premade frozen one from the central kitchen as well as many other dishes. The good thing for central kitchen premade dishes is quality and flavor control. But they just taste different for foodies. My son has Huang Men Ji (冬菇黄焖鸡), and it came out in less than 5 min, so you can tell that premade, but he liked the flavor. We had the Crab Yolk Noodle which certainly the Crab Yolk sauce was premade as well. It tasted very nice and it was the dish to be finished. The restaurant is owned by the same owner as the next door Hunan restaurant as they share the same coupon for the next visit.

Google
Food: we got the rainbow soup dumpling so that we could try each flavor. Most of them have the same broth and pork filling, but just different wraps and additional protein. The soup season well and the feeling as I was pretty good some are chewer than others. I think overall it’s a very comforting food for the colder season. They do have other options beside dumplings if you’re interested in trying those instead. Service: it’s mostly a self serve where you use the QR code to order what you want and then the server comes to confirm. Ambiance: it’s very family oriented with a lot of closeness in the seatings. Location accommodation: there’s no reservations made, but you can put your name on the waiting list. And the closest parking is usually a garage or if you’re lucky enough to find side parking.

Yelp
TLDR: revamped interior with soup dumplings. Very happy to have eaten here. We came off hours on a holiday weekend and were seated quickly for our party of 3 including a child seat. Food ordering was done through a scanned QR code and came quickly. All the soup dumplings were pork based except for one vegetable option. We got the fried beef dumplings and they were phenomenal. Also great was the asparagus with lily. Prices seemed very fair for a newer restaurant. The interior seemed renovated and felt great.

Tony T.

Yelp
We tried the following for a party of 5: - Traditional Soup Dumpling - Crabmeat Soup Dumpling - Whole Beijing Roast Duck - Salt Pepper Duck Bone (Half) - Hot And Sour Fern Root Noodle - Pea Pod Stems For Soup w/ Ham And Preserved Eggs - Crab Noodle Food was pretty solid overall. I enjoyed the soup dumplings and the duck the most. Things are a bit pricier here for the portion sizes you get.

Yelp
I recently visited Fuchun Ju in Chinatown, Boston, and overall, it was a disappointing experience. The food was decent at best, though the hot and sour soup was really underwhelming. The restaurant itself looks nice, but that's about where the positives end. The service and ordering process were chaotic and unnecessarily overwhelming. Despite having two empty tables nearby, they squeezed us into one table instead of offering more space, while another group was given two tables right next to us. It felt careless and uncomfortable. The restaurant that used to be here was fantastic, but unfortunately, what's there now doesn't come close to living up to the standard.

Yelp
Fuchun Ju is a must-visit for any dumpling lover, especially if you're craving an authentic experience. Their soup dumplings are nothing short of incredible- delicate yet packed with an explosion of flavorful broth and perfectly seasoned fillings. Each bite is a testament to the skill and tradition that goes into crafting these delicious bundles of joy. What makes the experience even more memorable is getting to watch the dumplings being freshly made. Seeing the precision and care that goes into folding and shaping each dumpling is fascinating and adds a special touch to the dining experience. On top of the exceptional food, Fuchun Ju's service is streamlined and efficient, ensuring that your meal arrives promptly without ever feeling rushed. The staff is incredibly kind, attentive, and eager to make sure every guest leaves happy and satisfied. Whether you're a seasoned dumpling enthusiast or just starting your culinary journey, Fuchun Ju is bound to impress with its blend of authenticity, warmth, and deliciousness.

Yelp
We had such a good time at Fuchun Ju and I'd definitely recommend for a group looking for delicious food, big portions, and a comfortable environment to try some dim sum dishes. Although I would hesitate to call this restaurant authentic or cheap, everything here is made fresh and I think you definitely get your moneys worth. We visited as a group of 4 on a weekend without a reservation, and after a couple minutes of waiting, we got a table. The entire ordering process is online- everyone can scan a QR code to pull up the table's order and add dishes to the cart. We ended up ordering several dishes (most not pictured) and they all came out hot and fresh. My favorites were the General Tsos chicken, the Shanghai Noodles, and the fried rice. I wish they had a bit more variety of dumplings, but the ones we tried were still very tasty.

Yelp
Huge Chinese spot that's always kinda packed. We fortunately got seated pretty quickly. The XLBs were delicious and juicy. The Chicken Chow Mein was also flavorful. The Tofu with Crab Roe was a bit too bland and fishy for me. The big Truffle XLB was fun but a bit hard to eat, I'd stick with the small ones!

John H.

Yelp
Today I was disappointed with my scallop soup dumplings. They used preserved and not fresh scallops so it was actually hard to chew into chunks of dried seafood. Stick with the traditional pork or crab mix. Can't say I recommend the other dishes. My pork noodle had pre-made pork and did not taste fresh. Just order the soup dumplings and call it a day.

Alex L.

Yelp
Walked in to this spot in Chinatown. Tried many dishes, including Beef Lo Mein (3/5 nothing special), Pan Fried Pork Buns (4/5 pretty good), Peking Duck (5/5 always a hit and it was done well), Chicken Fried Rice (4/5 good but nothing special either), Rainbow Soup Dumplings (5/5 fun to try every flavor too), Bok Choy with Mushroom (5/5), and Traditional Soup Dumplings (5/5 just so good). Overall I would say definitely come for the soup dumplings. They're some of the most fresh and soupy dumplings I've had in Boston so far!

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Excellent sesame seed chicken. Mushroom and rice dumplings were just ok. Wouldn't get them again. They want you to order through a website with a QR code, which I wasn't thrilled about, but it actually worked good. I don't think they have a beer and wine license unfortunately. I'd go back though!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place after passing it so many times and seeing the food through the window! Fuchunju looks pretty classy, sleek, and modern - as a newer restaurant in Chinatown, it definitely seems like the trendier option out of most of the options in the area and has a ton of seating. We were lucky to come when it wasn't too busy so we didn't have to wait for a table and we were seated by the window. The menu has a decent selection of Chinese fare, however things were pretty pricy for what eventually came out - a price to pay for being trendy I suppose. We got 3 dishes for the two of us and while tasty, we weren't too full at the end. I probably would only get the noodle dish again if I were to come back. Service was okay - not very consistent with water pouring and took forever to get the check. Overall, the experience was all right, but I probably wouldn't return unless someone I'm eating with really wanted to try it. I'm glad I got to visit, but it unfortunately didn't check enough boxes for me to want to come back.

Yelp
I've ordered from here a bunch of times and have always loved the soup dumplings, but my experience dining in this time wasn't up to par. The pork with abalone came out cold on the inside! They of course took it back and gave us another order but it didn't taste great (too much sauce, abalone was very hard to chew). Definitely not worth $40+. (1/5) This really skewed my view of this place unfortunately. Otherwise, soup dumplings and noodles were great. (Both 4 stars).

Justin S.

Yelp
A new entrant in Chinatown, Fuchunju stands out for its shiny decor. Even the silverware looks aesthetic, with light blue bowls and plates contrasting the bright, marbled interior. The food, in contrast, proved lackluster. The soup dumplings were ... ok. Annoyingly, the accompanying spoons were too small to not spill the soup, and their height made getting the accompanying black vinegar annoying. I may as well go to Nan Xiang across the street where their plasticware doesn't sacrifice form for function. I also tried the stir fried scallion beef. For a $19 dish, its portion size was lacking and its flavor was indistinguishable from the myriad of hole-in-wall places around (like Wing's Kitchen for example). Regarding the stir fried bok choy and mushroom (in the $18-19 range), I have the exact same sentiments. Both entrees also arrived lukewarm. The food is ok, but the price point is not.

Yelp
Stopped in after a wonderful museum visit downtown. Was going to stop at a different spot (which we did) but after looking at the menu and what people had ordered on the tables, we decided to come back to Fuchunju. For a couple bucks more per dish, and noodles that actually looked tasty, felt that it was more worth it to get something we'd know we enjoy. The Shanghai noodles had good flavor, pork was tender and that was a good pick imo. We also went super American and got the gen Gaus chicken (told them extra spicy but it wasn't really spicy) i just wanted it NOT to be overly sweet like how many places do it. Enjoyed it, crispy crunch and dark meat chick pieces. It was busy busy, and we put our name on the waitlist but one of the servers got us a table pretty quick: will be back!

Yelp
They don't take reservations on the weekend and it's very popular, so it gets pretty packed. We put our names down on the waitlist and were seated pretty quickly though. You order by scanning a QR code on your phone and placing the order. The decor is bright and modern, and despite it being busy it doesn't get too loud. The food comes out FAST. We ordered: - Pea pod stems with garlic: 5/5, crunchy and fresh, but quite expensive. - Scallion pancakes: 3.5/5, nice and crispy, although the sauce was a bit bland. - Crab rangoon: 2/5, fine for those who like crab rangoon, but not really my thing. - Vegetable fried rice: 4/5, pretty tasty. - Soup dumplings: 5/5, these were amazing. - Half Beijing duck: 4/5, it comes with about nine steamed wrappers, which wasn't enough for a party of seven, but it was fine. The duck was pretty good, but not the best I've had in the area. - Chef's special tofu: 3/5, the tofu is fried and then cooked with a brown sauce (and lots of bamboo shoots!), which everyone seemed to like. Service was very quick and they were very attentive, filling our water glasses quite often. Would love to try more food here!

Hoey Chyi L.

Yelp
It was very crowded during peak Saturday dinner time, but kiosk self check in system was pretty straightforward and we got seated very quickly for 2 people. Soup dumplings 5/5 were hands down best you can find in Boston - Bigger and soupier than ones you get from DinTaifung. Pan fried pork buns 4/5 very juicy, and nicely pan fried, but not the most blowing version I've had. Would give it 3/5 if compared to ones you get in New York Flushing Chinatown. Beef brisket noodle soup 5/5 - BOMB. Broth was flavorful, meat portions were generous and noodles were fresh. Perfect for a cold night out. Buddha jumping over wall soup 4.5/5 - broth was packed with flavors and contained many rich ingredients like sea cucumber and abalone. Braised chicken with mushroom 4/5 - they really know how to braise their meat, portion was big, only problem I had with this dish there wasn't enough mushroom. Decoration and food plating offered an overall nice dining experience. Service was quick too but sometimes you have to be assertive with flagging them down. For the food quality and authenticity, it was worth the wait - would totally come back again!

Sean E.

Yelp
This was a solid place and I'd give it 4.5/5. The check in process was slightly confusing. Additionally, when you order through their QR code directed website, be warned that everything will come out when ready. Thus, if you want to space your order, make sure to place the initial order and add items as you want them to come out. With that said, all of the menu items were very good and the waitresses were very kind. The restaurant was clean - the decor reminded us of a French bistro, rather than Chinese restaurant. However we both liked it.

Gracie L.

Yelp
Came here for an appetizer. Had the soup dumplings. Dumplings were absolutely delish!!! place is small and quaint. You order online and they bring to your table. You really don't even speak to the waitresses. Service was very slow, but they were busy.

Lina H.

Yelp
Service was honestly really speedy even for a busy day. Sometimes there is a feeling the staff wants you in and out but its fine. Decor and interior was renovated beautifully. One of the prettier restaurants in Chinatown for sure. I only got their Rainbow XLB as part of a food tour but honestly overpriced for what its worth. Food is standard, youre pretty much paying for the aesthetics.

Nhung N.

Yelp
My husband and I dined at Fuchunju during the early dinner hour and on a Friday evening and the restaurant was already bustling with customers. We were seated immediately. First impressions, I love how this Chinatown corner restaurant has been transformed to a much more modern look with an open kitchen. You can watch the chef make the soup dumplings from your tables. Personally, the tables were a little too close for my comfort but even more to my surprise was that I sat between two out of three out of state customers that day. Not sure how they all ended up at Fuchunju but like them, it was also my first time trying this restaurant. You can order from the QR code that is available at the table. After placing your order online, a waitress will confirm your order in person one final time before the kitchen work on your order. We ordered three items to share, the carb noodles, the multicolored soup dumplings, and finally, the whole Peking duck. The noodles and crab sauce came separately plated. This was great as you get to control how much sauce you want to add. The sauce is very buttery and slight salty. The multicolored soup dumplings came in a bird cage and with the vinegar with sliced ginger sauce. The soup dumplings were amazing. I could totally eat all six by myself but would not have room to try any other dishes. This is a must order. The whole Peking duck came in a treasure chest. Also delicious. Definitely a shareable item. I would definitely be back to try more of their menus. So happy to have more soup dumpling option in Chinatown. See my pictures!

Connie C.

Yelp
Delicious spot right in the head of Boston's Chinatown. Everything is very fresh here. You order via the QR and someone will come and check on your orders. The decor is very cute inside but also casual as if you transported to a high-class Shanghainese hotel. The XLBs come out hot a juicy, all the flavors were unique and delicious. You can't go wrong with any of the flavors. Braised beef noodle soup had very tender braised beef and flavorful broth. Scallion pancakes were soft and flaky.

Rongan C.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, reminded me of ma-pa restaurants in Shanghai. The Peking duck is excellent, perfectly crispy skin and fatty meats. Wish they gave us more wraps...Also got the abalone pork souk dumplings which were inventive and delicious.

Alee L.

Yelp
I came here twice already and I love the pan-fried buns. They were the first thing I liked and when I ordered them again, they were just as good. The first time I didn't order any XLB's but the second time I did and they were very juicy and tasty. I've never been a fan of XLB's but these weren't bad. Don't order the wings or the wontons, they were terrible. However, the chef's special which is the tofu is really good. Everything else from the fried noodles, braised chicken with mushroom, and snow pea shoots with century eggs are good, and they are very homey foods. Honestly, I think the prices here are on the pricer side but what are you going to do? Also, the first time I came here the waitress who took my order said I ordered too much food, and I looked at her and said, it's ok, I can take what I can't finish home. I didn't ask for your opinion and do you NOT want my business? And no I was not eating alone. So I was not thrilled with the service the first time around. But the second time around, I had another person waiting on me and he didn't provide any unsolicited opinions. This place I would say has good XLB's and very good pan-fried buns, and I would come back for the buns.

Andrew O.

Yelp
Some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. The portions are meant for 2 people. The atmosphere was nice also. When I went with my girlfriend, it was packed inside but I think that speaks on the quality of the food. Highly recommend!

Joy Q.

Yelp
It's a great spot for friends gathering but I have to sag everything was mediocre. The crab xiaolongbao was not worth it at all as you couldn't really taste the crab in the pork; Spinach was good; Tofu was okay; Chicken clay pot was not stewed for enough time and the meat was not tender enough Service was kind and attentive even during busy hours

Tara P.

Yelp
Tried egg drop soup and Peking duck for the first time. The restaurant staff is friendly and informative. First time dining in Chinatown and will definitely be back. Also, City of Boston gave an A grade for sanitation. The bathroom was immaculate! Will come again!

William Z.

Yelp
Good and fast service, renovated and nice interior, good prices, and the food was good.

Yelp
Overall pretty ok, I'd try it one more time Parking is really difficult! Boston's chinatown is a struggle with any restaurant you go too. You can find garages, and street parking with equal amounts of struggle when finding parking. I parked a mile away to make it to the restaurant The service is slightly below average, I will with a friend, and we were not greeted, or met with a fond farewell. A warm welcome or a found farewell can go along way. Our server disappeared and took a while to comeback to fill waters or ask us if we wanted more to order. The food quality is pretty low. I tried a good hand full of options from dumplings, to noodles, to beef and chicken options. Alls to say there was nothing that stood out, and I didn't eat much of the food that I did try. I'm a big fan of Chinese cuisine but everything with the exception of the dumpling tasted off in flavor or too salted. The layout of the restaurant is clean! Nothing too intriguing about the design, but the ambiance of the building was the best part of the restaurant. You order from QR codes which makes interactions less memorable & meaningful between you and your server, but the benefit is you get more time to review what you want instead of being rushed by your server. I'd pull up one more time, but if I get the same quality I would not return. I will post an update if I do return

Gabrielle K.

Yelp
Yummy new spot that opened in Chinatown! I still do not remember what was here before but it is in a prime location. I went on a sunday afternoon and was immediately seated. You order via QR code on your table which is always so convenient. The food was quick coming out and very tasty! My favorite dish was the stir fry scallion beef which was so savory and flavorful. I noticed that the menu has a lot of seafood items which in this scenario was not as ideal as my friend cant eat that. The price was great as we spent about $30pp which is an amount I rarely see for a restaurant. If you want to try something photogenic get the rainbow soup dumplings they are colorful and come to your table in a bird cage. The staff was respectful and very attentive to everything apart from when we had to really flag them down for the check haha! Definitely worth adding to your list when visiting Chinatown and getting yourself some bubble tea from TeaDo after. What we got Traditional Soup Dumpling Stir Fry Scallion Beef Garlic Broccoli

Yelp
DID SOMEONE SAY SOUP DUMPLINGS?! Oh man, I have been waiting for Boston to have a place that actually serves GOOD, well made, flavorful, soupy, soup dumplings! Like, day trips to NY/Flushing for Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao is cool and all, but definitely needed a more local restaurant that offers soup dumplings that hit the spot. Introducing Fuchunju, brought to you by the same owners of JiangNan Boston (by Boston Common on Tremont St). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying their crab meat soup dumplings & their scallion stir fried beef. The crab meat soup dumplings are absolutely divine! The soup is nice and sweet, from the crab meat filling. It was so good, we had to order another order of them! The beef dish we ordered because we saw that it was quite popular. It had great flavor and the flavor profile reminded me of 干炒牛河/beef chow foon, but without the noodles of course. We also ordered the traditional pork soup dumplings, which were good; soup was noticeably not as sweet as the crab dumplings, but it makes sense. The pork dumplings were still yummy. If I had to choose though, I would probably only order the crab meat dumplings and try the other filling options. Since Fuchunju is related to JiangNan (specializes in peking duck), they of course have peking duck on their menu, available to order here. Plenty of seating available. They do get pretty packed for dinner time, so I would suggest coming to try them out before the dinner time rush. Menu & ordering food is done via QR Code that is provided for you on the table. Once you have placed your order, your server will come to your table to confirm your order is correct & food will arrive shortly after. Love the speedy service here. Will for sure come back again and most likely order 10 orders of crab meat soup dumplings next time lol.

Amy C.

Yelp
I came here for the first time to try their xiao long baos and it was surprisingly so good! I love the decor and vibe in the restaurant as well, it takes me back to some places in China when I visited! You can also see them making them from scratch! I love how you can just order from a QR code on the table instead of having to wait for the waiter to come! Then the waiter will come to confirm your order as well! We got the rainbow xiao long baos and the truffle ones, they were bigger than what we expected and also juicy! They tasted very clean and flavorful! We also tried the old style Shanghai Shumai and it was something I've never tried before, it was tasty but I expected there to be more pork in it. Their menu was smaller than I thought and they were out of some of the dishes when I went around lunch time on a Sunday. I would definitely come back for the Xiao Long Baos!

Amy Z.

Yelp
I hungout with my friend at this newish spot in Chinatown. You can order via an ipad and the staff confirms your order. The rainbow soup dumplings were delicious, thin wrapper and loads of flavor. I also loved the shanghai fried noodles, so flavorful and not too salty. The pumpkin pan fry cake were new to me but had a sweet mochi texture. The pan fried pork buns were also tasty and had soup. This spot had nice interior, a little bit on the fancier side. Overall, great experience and will definitely be back.

Yelp
Beef tendon noodles soup flavored not good . But the asparagus and stir fry shrimp are good, service are okay

3.5/5 While the soup dumplings here are flavorful and bursting with soup, they are too crowded in the container they come in and so it is almost impossible to extract one without breaking the skin and losing the soup. Overall the dishes here are average/good in taste but high in price for the portion size. I made a reservation for our party of five over the phone but was then told when I got there that there was no reservation booked. Luckily we were able to be seated straight away, but it didn't leave the best impression

Yelp
A couple of my girl friends wanted to meet up and we came here to try this new restaurant. The environment felt clean and comfortable. The service was wonderful. We were set with a good beginning. When the food came, we were excited. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the food. The soup dumplings are okay. There are so many better options in Chinatown, for example, Dumpling Cafe. They are less aesthetically pleasing compared to FCJ but at least they taste better. The noodles were a little better but it wasn't all great. Again, many better options nearby, for example, Jade Garden and Dynasty. The scallion pancakes were dry and not flaky. The mushroom with veggies was saucy, which was good. The desserts with 3 types of cakes were interesting. I enjoyed it but my friends didn't enjoy it too much. I think it was their first time trying mung bean. Overall, our excitement turned into a disappointment. Whilst the service and ambiance were great, at the end, this is a restaurant so the food has more weight. For the prices that they are charging, there are so many better options nearby and much tastier. Therefore, I could only offer 3 stars for the service and ambiance. I would not be coming back soon.

Yelp
The regular soup dumplings are good. Come just for this. The rest of the dishes we ordered are all a fail. - the giant soup dumpling. Took 50 mins to come. We already finished all dishes (in 2 orders) and was told it normally takes 20 mins to prepare the giant dumpling- which I know and was prepared to wait but not for 50 mins. It came one minute after we asked for check and they didn't want to take it back even though we said we were already full. - the stir fried beef. Very bland. The dish looked very sad as most you see are all these big onion pieces with a few tiny beef shreds. a big let down. - Stir fried tofu. Again Very very bland makes you question if they forgot to put salt. Overall 2.5/5 all for the regular sized soup dumplings.

Yelp
The food was so so... not authentic of Shanghai dishes... not much service since you ordered food on your phone using the QR code. The food was so so, it was bland. The soup dumplings was good, so much soup and the skin was thin but no need using the bird case to hold the dish. The Peking duck was lack of flavor, Jiangnan restaurant which was few blocks away was way better, from service to food compared to this restaurant.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect from Fuchunju given the mixed reviews, but I ended up mostly enjoying my experience here. They may have improved their soup dumpling placement -- we only had one of 18 XLB break, and that was due to user error. Overall I would say that the soup dumplings are some of the best ones I've had in Boston, but the other dishes I had were nothing special. We tried 3 different soup dumplings, and I would recommend the crabmeat XLB and scallop XLB. Both had plenty of hot, umami soup inside, a good amount of meat and crab/scallop, and a not-too-thick skin. We also tried the regular pork soup dumplings, and I didn't like the broth in these as much (a tiny bit more sour and less umami), but they were still good. The tongs they give you make it easy to transfer the dumplings to a spoon, and the dumplings are sturdy enough survive the transfer. We also tried the old style Shanghai shumai, which tasted pretty good, but had nearly nonexistent amounts of meat and mushroom. If this had more meat/mushroom, it would be a great dish. We got the shanghai fried noodles with pork, which was fine, but didn't have as much flavor or meat as I would like. Lastly, we tried the pan-fried pork buns, which I wouldn't get again. They were pretty unremarkable and had no soup inside. The restaurant is bustling, ordering is easy (done through a QR code), and service is good. The food comes out quickly and the servers are good about filling up water. The highlight for me was definitely the soup dumplings -- I would come back just for those -- but I wasn't impressed with anything else I had.

Yelp
The xiao long bao (tried the traditional $11.95 and abalone $18.95), had decent flavor, but the skin was way thick on top and one arrived burst. The abalone wasn't worth the upcharge in my opinion; certainly all the colors are pretty, but the traditional is still best. Not the best, but will satisfy a XLB craving! The sheng jian bao ($8.95) was not good though... Barely pan fried, thick skin, and not enough filling. The Shanghai fried noodles ($14.95) were decent, though I think it could've been a slightly larger quantity. Overall, a fine choice if you're in the area or craving XLB, but nothing to go out of your way for.

Yelp
I've been waiting for an opportunity to try out Fuchunju after seeing many hyped up reviews - I was in Boston this weekend and decided to stop in around 2pm while perusing Chinatown. The interior is well-decorated and clean. Despite the restaurant being very busy, check-in was very easy, with a kiosk right at the front and staff being attentive to customers checking in. My party was seated within 10 minutes. We ordered the Shanghai Shumai, Beef Lo Mein, Crabmeat Soup Dumplings, and the Chenghuang Temple Big Soup Dumpling with Pork. Most of the dishes that we tried were alright. The shumai was a dumpling filled with sticky rice - our fault for not asking more about the dish as it was not anything close to what we expected for shumai. As for the lo mein, it was tasty but not anything special. The big soup dumpling was what I was most excited to try after seeing so many reviews about them. The big soup dumpling was tasty but I probably wouldn't order it again as the proportions seemed a bit off between the wrapper, meat, and soup. With that said, the crabmeat soup dumplings (the smaller, normal size dumplings) were delicious - I would absolutely come back to try the other options, which include some attractive options like abalone and dried scallop.

Yelp
I just brought home an order of the Peking Duck. It was $40 and was 90% greasy skin. Yuck. I ate the 10% that was edible and threw the rest in the trash. I live about a block away from this place, so they blew any chance to get a repeat customer. I even left 20% up-front on a to-go order. They really put the 'F-u' in Fuchun.

Yelp
Another soup dumpling place in Chinatown that is definitely bustling with people on a Friday night. I came here right before the dinner rush and didn't have to wait for a table. We scanned the QR codes to look at the menu and ordered the colorful soup dumplings, the giant soup dumpling, wonton soup, and the beef brisket noodle soup. I really enjoyed both the soup dumplings and the wontons, but the beef brisket was lacking. The beef brisket was mostly tendon and the noodles were quite plain. The colorful soup dumplings each had a different flavor to them and had lots of filling with a very thin outer skin. The giant soup dumpling came with a straw for you to drink the soup before you devour the filling. The wontons had lots of skin to filling ratio and the soup was very light. Overall, a nice place to get dinner to catch up with a small or large group of people.

Yelp
Authentic Shanghainese cuisine is a rare gem to come across, but Fu Chun Ju stands out as a unique find. Recently renovated, the restaurant boasts a vibrant atmosphere, though it can get a bit noisy during dinner service, with background music that doesn't quite ease the din. While the prices are on the higher side compared to other Chinese eateries in Allston or suburban areas, the food quality surpasses the average Chinatown fare. Notable dishes that caught my attention include the Rainbow Soup Dumplings, presented in a charming birdcage, and the Abalone Braised Pork--a delightful fusion I hadn't encountered elsewhere, although the abalone itself tends to be a tad chewy. Despite the hustle and bustle during peak hours, the service remains generally satisfactory.

Yelp
Food is okay but pricey, decor and service were nice though. They really go for the presentation more than anything else, I would probably only go back if someone else was paying. The soup dumplings were just average to be honest and the gimmick XL dumpling was probably the worse item we had. The XL dumpling with a straw was just mushy and didn't have the right texture on the skin. Overall pretty average, only try it if you love Shanghai food but even then go in with low expectations...

Yelp
This may be my latest favorite Chinese restaurant in Boston. I'm so thrilled the Chinese food scene is leveling up in Boston. This place is more casual than Jiangnan on Tremont but is beautiful. I'm sitting and eating here and feel transported to Hong Kong, Shanghai, or Singapore. The service is polite and very quick. Our server was helpful and patient. You must order the crab soup dumplings as a starter. I've never had the fernroot salad but it was so tasty. We're coming back for the other cool dishes like the one in the birdcage and the one in the fancy circular rack

Yelp
Came here at around 3-4 on a Friday and it wasn't really busy. Interior design is really cute I love the tiles of the floors. It feels really fancy being here despite some vandalized windows. The music here was great they played a lot of popular chinese ballads on the piano which made me feel relaxed ! The food was okay I would say, food came out warm not hot the best thing was the soup dumplings, you could see the chefs hand making it in the back and they wrapped it really well not too thick, but not too thin so when you grab it the dough doesn't break. The servers were also really attentive. Overall I prefer soup dumplings here more than Nan express

Yelp
Fuchunju is one of the new restaurants in Boston Chinatown and I had been dying to try it. One thing that was frustrating for me was them not having a website or a menu posted anywhere. Despite this, the videos alone were enough to convince me to go. I went on a weekday pretty late like 8:30 and was seated right away but it was still pretty full. The restaurant itself is very nice but not too fancy. Compared to the typical small Chinatown restaurants it feels much more upscale. One thing to note is they don't have any physical menus and you order from an app. I don't mind the ordering but not having a website or anywhere to see the full menu is frustrating. Shanghainese food is one of my favorite types of Chinese foods and I was so excited since Boston's options for Shanghainese food are limited. Nan Xiang Express is pretty disappointing in my opinion it's like frozen food, so I had a feeling this place would be much better. We got the stir fried noodles with pork, scallion beef, and pork soup dumplings. The noodles were so good, a little bit greasy how I like it but cooked and seasoned perfectly. The scallion beef is a must get since the beef is so tender and flavorful and goes well with the onions. Soup dumplings are probably the best you will find in Boston. They're close to the best ones I have had in my life (Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao) but not quite. Next time, I would totally try some of their other items like the shrimp and pork options they have. I think next time I would maybe eat the scallion beef with rice since the noodles and beef are pretty oily. I highly recommend this place and I will be returning!
