The 38 Best Restaurants in Honolulu, Hawai‘i | Eater

"This mochi shop has been around since 1953, but changed ownership in recent years, resulting in new flavors like a purple sweet potato daifuku and yuzu marmalade manju. The classics, such as red bean daifuku and milk-flavored chi chi dango, are still available too. Few other mochi shops anywhere are able to meld the old and new as beautifully and deliciously as Fujiya. Know before you go: Check Fujiya’s Instagram for specials like banana cream pie mochi and mango liliko‘i mochi." - Martha Cheng

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Portion to Price: 3/5 Overall: All the Mochi we got was tasty The extended review... Food: 4/5 - We got a few different flavors and loved them all. The hard part is eating it all! Service: 4/5 - Friendly attentive service. Ambiance: 4/5 - The cool part is you can see into the kitchen so if they are making it you can see them in action. Portion to Price: 3/5 - Pricing is a little expensive but it's one of the few places in the area to get mochi.

No line at 9am on a Wednesday and it was awesome. The strawberry one is my favorite. I prefer that one over the lychee and grape. Still have the tangerine one to try. Should’ve just gotten more strawberries!

Adorable shop with the softest mochi - both traditional and creative flavors. As we are headed home, we were only able to purchase a couple mochi and a small box of chi chi dango to share. Dec 2024: strawberries are not in season so the strawberry mochi may not be available. The white bean with fresh blueberries mochi (pink skin) are quite large and tender. I kept them in the refrigerator for the afternoon to cool them down, then left them at room temp for about 20 min prior to eating. Very delicate flavor and the blueberries are a good choice as 1) they don't leak water (ahem, strawberries and chocolate), and 2) they keep for a few days without drying out. I will be trying to transport the chi chi dango home, so I will update my review at a later time. The flavor are quite interesting! Banana, melon, strawberry, and ramune. Parking lot is shared with the restaurant next door. There is probably street parking but I am not familiar with the area. I parked in the next lot over for Onoya Ramen (newly opened) and our ramen bowls were delicious!

Google
A random person randomly told me this was the best mochi ever. They were 100% correct. The lady behind the counter was super awesome and gave us a bunch of samples. She essentially forced us to buy peanut butter and said it’s their best seller by far…she was absolutely correct and it blew our collective minds. We got a strawberry and mixed berry mochi as well that were delicious. So different from the ice cream variety mochi and I will forever want this style!!

Google
Fujiya Hawaii has very tasty mochi and they are so fresh. The place is very clean, and the people are very friendly. We had Strawberry, Red Bean, and Peanut Butter Mochi. We also got the Pumpkin and Red Bean Manju. Most excitingly, they also are making Butter Mochi which was so good! Definitely will go back to visit again. Highly Recommend: Jumbo Strawberry Mochi, Red Bean Mochi, and Butter Mochi.

I usually frequent the other major mochi store in town (we all know where that is lol), but wanted to try out Fujiya as it's super closer to my home. First off it may have been lucky timing, but coming in on the eve of Christmas eve was surprisingly not too busy. I was able to park in their lot without any delay and the store had a few patrons inside, allowing to walk around and peruse. They had some special pancake mixes on display and gave a sample of the pineapple one that was freshly cooked in the store- pretty good! But I was there for one thing and one thing only, the mochi. Or course they have pre-orders for the holiday season, but I didn't plan ahead and was at the mercy of whatever was available. Impressively, they actually did have great stock of items, including their Christmas platters that you could pre-order! I decided to just go with some tried and true classics. I got the 12 pc assorted, 1 large regular/haupia chichi dango, and a small Ramune (Japanese soda) chichi dango. My personal al favorite is the peanut butter, so rich and delicious. The staff there are all super friendly and able to answer any questions. They also are great salesmen lol. Will definitely be purchasing my mochi from here from now on!!

Google
BEST ever mochi! So good we came twice during our trip and bought some to take home. The fresh strawberry matcha was a fav with the fam but I loved the peanut butter one! My husband even bought their tshirt. Very friendly and helpful service.

Google
Oh. My. Goodness. Best mochi EVER, and not at all expensive. Strawberry daifuku was available for Mother’s Day, and was absolutely spectacular. Update May 21, 2024- we came back to the island and this was a MUST do stop for me. We got the melon dango, passion fruit yuzu mochi, limited edition grape mochi, lychee mochi, and a jumbo strawberry daifuku. SO yummy. The dango was super smooth. The grapes had a slightly bitter aftertaste, but were very crispy. The lychee were stellar- so sweet. The strawberry was, of course, excellent. Our favorite was the passion fruit yuzu! Quite messy- it is coated with a light layer of syrup.

Yelp
Favorite mochi of all time! We loved the fresh strawberry with red bean filling & mango + coconut chichi dango. Soft, chewy, pillowy -- still dreaming of this fresh mochi. Came by once during the week (no line) and once during the weekend (line started 5-10 mins before opening).

Yelp
The best chi chi dango in Honolulu! Found Fujiya after searching mochi. As a tourist, I was only looking to travel to spots I could reach by bus or HOLO. And luckily for me, Fujiya was only a ~20min bus ride from my hotel. I had read that hella people line up at 9am when they open, and even on a Friday they had a line waiting around 845am. Some were locals, but there were some of us crazies who were tourists waiting to get our hands on some delicious, buttery, mochi or chi chi dango before flying out or starting our day. There are SO MANY flavors and choices that you might not see online, like mango, melon, strawberry, lychee, the list goes on. I was definitely overwhelmed. I also had to get some items for my friends who couldn't make the trip out in time, so in all we got the butter mochi, strawberry daifuku, regular chi chi dango, lychee, and peanut butter (crunchy) mochi. Y'all THE WAY I CRIED biting into the peanut butter mochi. I literally have never had mochi so friggin soft like a buttery cloud. I cried. They butter mochi was insane. Much better and more pillow-like QQ consistency compared to Leonard's which I think is too thick and overrated. Support local and small biz. Will def be back to Fujiya every time I return to Honolulu. Mahalo!

Yelp
The mochi is absolutely amazing, the texture is perfect. I loved every mochi product and definite favorites are the mango sticky rice chichi dango, guava mochi butter, and the white bean mochi. My husband really liked the peanut butter. The manju is alright but was a bit more bland and dry in comparison. Service was very nice and it's a cute shop. Highly recommend trying their mochi!

Yelp
There was one treat I was determined to get in Waikiki... mochi! From the outside, the storefront is very unassuming, but the inside is filled with various packaged snacks, the most adorable stickers, and of course, mochi and chi chi dango. Fujiya has been around since 1953 and they also won a James Beard award in 2023 naming them an "outstanding bakery". We visited in the morning and the staff was actively working the back making and packing the mochi, bringing boxes out to the front counter as they were assembled. One employee greeted us and graciously introduced us to their selection of offerings. She raved about the peanut butter mochi, so we got some of those in addition to their red bean ones and a small box of their chi chi dango. The mochi had the perfect chew and elastic texture that I craved. The peanut butter one was filled with crunchy peanut butter and lightly coated in a peanut powder. I enjoyed the salty sweet combination and the crunch from the nuts. I loved the red bean mochi even more since the filling was so smooth and just the perfect sweetness. I don't recall ever having an authentic chi chi dango and I absolutely loved it. Made with coconut milk, it had a richer flavor and was SO soft. It's a perfect dessert and I regret not purchasing another box. We were advised to store our goods in the fridge if not eating them right away. Even when chilled, the mochi retained its soft texture and I actually preferred it slightly cold rather than at room temperature. Our treats really didn't last that long, though! They were all delicious and we devoured them within a day.

Yelp
I saw some Hawaii Yelp friends (Irene, Nadine, & Craig T) reviewed and recommended this place. So, we had to check them out. The store was kinda hard to see as the only signage was on the windows of the store. It does share the same parking lot as Minato Japanese Restaurant. The store is new, clean, and proper. Shelves full of yummy snacks, t-shirts, and display case with refrigerated mochi, and then a table with their colorful mochi and manju. My wife liked their Lychee Bites (4/5). Lychee surrounded with soft mochi. Peanut Butter, Red Bean, w/Banana Mochi (4/5). Flavorful and creamy. Yuzu Honey/Lemon Manju (3.5/5). Flakey pastry filled with yuzu honey/lemon. I am glad we tried this place. I'll add to to my list of favorites! Support local.

Yelp
Wanted to get some mochi for my daughter on Girl's day. Was able to get some white bean mochi, red bean mochi, and peanut butter mochi. Service was fast and the worker helping was so nice and welcoming. Their handmade mochi was so soft! Even after putting it in the fridge for a day, it was still so soft. Never tried the a white bean mochi but was pleasantly surprised. Loved the red bean and peanut butter. Still can't get over how soft the mochi was! Will definitely be back to try some more flavors!

Yelp
The best butter mochi I've ever had!!!! We came here twice and tried: 1) butter mochi - SO SO GOOD, chewy, not too sweet, and the edge pieces are the best 2) tsunami mochi: ok- not a huge fan of the white bean 3) peanut butter mochi: ok, not a huge fan of peanut butter in desserts, personally 4) haupia mochi: this is the refrigerated one, the coconut was more subtle than in your face but still so good! 5) strawberry guava butter mochi - not a huge fan of this one! The haupia and OG butter mochi were our favourites! So good and I love how you're able to see them make it in store.

Yelp
Got a gift from here last year and been meaning to come here because the fried nori was very addicting! Parking was a breeze right in front of the store. As you walk in, you're greeted by a clean & fresh environment filled with treats along the walls. Everything looked delicious especially the manju and mochi, then of course I had to grab some fried seaweed. Too bad they don't make bigger baggies of that. The counter line was a little long, but it by really quick. The cashier was so friendly and sweet. It is a bit $$ but totally worth it. Goodies are FRESH and taste amazing! FYI not open Thanksgiving except for pre orders, so get your order in asap!

Yelp
The mochi is delicious and so is the butter mochi. My favorite was probably the guava butter mochi, but the pumpkin spice mochi was a close second. I tried their strawberry mochi, red bean mochi, white bean mochi, and peanut butter mochi as well - all were great. The mochi is just so soft - the texture really is perfection. The ratio of mochi to filling is also just right. The butter mochi texture was also just the right amount of chew with softness and butteriness. The space is very clean and well-laid out. The service was very nice and allowed us to sample some things before buying as well. There is a parking lot, making it easy to park. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Massive, heavy mochi. + Peanut Butter Mochi: big, thick mochi skin but very soft that I didn't mind it. Filled with crunchy peanut butter, coated with powder (7.7/10)

Yelp
All you need to know: AWESOME! Because of a local's recommendation, I came here expecting really good mochi, but was surprised with Wow! This mochi is the best I've ever had. The one defining factor is the mochi covered strawberry. Being from CA, I know what a good strawberry should be and the mochi and bean paste covered strawberry was delicious through and through: ripe, juicy, sweet strawberry, smooth bean paste, and the softest mochi. In addition to the mochi, we tried mixed fruit mochi, li-hing mui mini gummy bears, chi chi dango and Beika Mochi crackers. We enjoyed it all.

Yelp
I finally got to try this place last week and I was so excited! I bought pumpkin crunch mochi, peanut butter mochi, strawberry and honeydew chichi dango, yuzu honey manju and pumpkin senbei. All were delicious but my absolute fave was the manju. Manju has a tendency to be dry but theirs isn't, it was absolutely delicious. Service here was top notch too. Two ladies helping in the front, very friendly and gave lots of good recommendations. Store is very clean and pretty with decor. They are quite busy and their parking lot is small so be patient when checking this place out. It was totally worth it. Look at the menu I took a pic of for their thanksgiving menu!

Yelp
Ordered mochi and chichi dango for a family reunion and everyone loved it. The friendly staff went beyond the call by allowing me to pick up my order before 4:00 pm although they close at 3:00.

Yelp
Yesterday in a panic I called to see if they have New Year's Eve platters. The kind lady said yes, they do and even if you weren't able to pre order you can walk in and they have a few left! This morning (Monday usually closed) they opened at 9 am and they had a few platters ready for walk ins. They also had chichidango and other mochi available for walk ins. Luckily I didn't wait long and I got there early enough so I was happy that the selection was still available. The staff was ready and very positive and they even gave me a pen! How nice and sweet. I also learned that you have to refrigerate the mochi so it doesn't go bad and it doesn't get hard!! Amazing and awesome. Remember to Saran Wrap the container though prior to putting it in the fridge so the cold air doesn't penetrate the containers. The place is small, clean, and efficiently set up for us to happily buy and leave. This year I am saved by this mochi store!! Yay

Yelp
Picked up chi chi dango variety pack (Ramune, melon, Haupia, and strawberry), yuzu manju, chocolate and strawberry manju and crunchy peanut butter mochi. The store looked closed, however a sign posted instructed us to ring a bell by the back door. And like magic, the door opened. The lights were off inside! I think they were closed? We were still able to request our goodies. Great customer service! 5 out of 5 stars. Girl's Day mochi orders are being taken. Order soon.

Yelp
Excellent experience at Fujiya. Staff really shines by offering explanations on everything they sell. The production is in house, everything is fresh. There is no wrong doing by supporting Fujiya. They offer mochi, manju, and a whole bunch of other amazing treats. Please support Fujiya.
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
Great service, awesome mochi. We tried the recommended strawberry mochi and people in my party who said "I'll only take a bite" ended up eating more. I also bought the mixed berry mochi, yuzu honey manju, and chi chi dango. The texture of the mochi here is incredibly soft and pillowy. I loved the filling in the mixed berry which has real fruit. Manju was everyone's least favorite, but I found the yuzu and honey flavor to be well balanced and light. Definitely recommend a stop here if you're in Honolulu!!

Yelp
Our annual new years order....pre ordered as you can't get a platter unless you pre order they are so so busy at this time of year. They have two line pre order and walk in, thank god cause its super busy and finding parking is stressful when they are super busy. I normally pick up at the end of the day but this year I had to go early but it was not as bad as I expected, since we pre ordered. Love the new mural on the wall but was so busy didn't want to do a selfie. Thank goodness there is plenty room inside so you don't feel like sardines waiting in line.

Yelp
WOW, WOW, WOW, this was awesome. I actually enjoyed this better than the old school spots in Japan (I grew up there) as the flavours were so unique, the mochi so light, and not remotely too sweet. It's totally worth the cab ride from Waikiki. The products have a short shelf life as they're not full of preservatives, but I guess that's why they're so delicious and magical. Even my hubby, who is generally not a fan of this type of sweets was raving about it. We had the jumbo strawberry (better than anything I've had in Japan), the mixed berry (wowza), the chocolate matcha mochi cake (not too sweet, fluffier and lighter than other mochi cakes), and the yuzu flavour (delicious). We were in the neighborhood for an early dinner seating elsewhere and dropped by around 4pm, not realizing that they closed at 3pm! But they ran out and welcomed us in and graciously gave us some samples and even gave us an ice pack for our purchases. Honestly, they've kinda ruined wagashi for me because I can't imagine anybody beating this, lol.

Yelp
Anytime I come home. I have to go here. It's a must. Mochi is delicious and I always look forward to new flavors.

Yelp
Went to Fujiya Hawaii for the first time ever! Wanted to pickup some gifts for our high school friends monthly gathering! They didn't disappoint! They have a very nice variety of Japanese mochi! I found what I needed & thank the sales gal,for her excellent customer service & friendly personality! The store is clean & the products are nicely arranged in the glass show cases! Look forward to going back, parking in front !

Yelp
Incredibly fresh mochi, like you've never tasted! So soft, and chewy... I personally just did not like any of the flavors: * Mango - very sweet, tasted artificial (though maybe it was made with fresh puree?) * Strawberry - All the fruits except a few like mandarin come with azuki. * Peanut butter - Was alright. The mochi was very fresh but as a result began to mold on Day 2. Prefer my mochi to have a bit more chew personally!
google avatar

Yelp
My kids love mochi. Fujiya always has fresh mochi. They have special mochi for different so occasions. I got Chinese New Year pack it was ok. Some flavors are not to my liking but we are open to trying new things. My favorite is the peanut butter mochi. I will probably find me here every few months.

Yelp
This is a very cute local mochi shop, mochi freshly made daily. I end up getting the Mix Chi Chi Dango (Haupia, melon, strawberry, and mango), Lychee Mochi with fresh lychee, and mochi with red bean. They were pretty good, but I find that the Chi Chi dango has a teeny hint of bitterness after taste. I still like the texture though. They also have manju and other small packaged snacks. The shop has a small parking lot, we didn't have trouble finding a parking space right when they open.

Yelp
One of my friends eats gluten free so I wanted to pick up something tasty that she could enjoy for the holidays. My first thought was chichi dango from Fujiya. Knowing that the shop can get busy, I called ahead and prepaid for my order. It was my first time visiting Fujiya's since they moved from Kalihi. The new shop is in town on Hauʻoli Street. I love the updated look and the space to browse other snacks like senbei, iso peanuts, arare, and lemon peel li hing gummy bears. Not to mention, there are lots of pretty packaged trays of manju and showcases of assorted mochi. It's a foodie shopper's paradise and I'm sure you could easily spend an hour choosing gifts for yourself and others. My friends loved the chichi dango; one claiming they finished the entire container the same day! It's nice this business which started in 1953 is still locally run today and remains a local favorite. Fujiya is open Tuesday through Saturday; 9am to 3pm.

Yelp
Come here and you'll find yourself addicted to such soft and delicious mochi! The lady at the counter was so nice and patient while we were trying to make up our minds after seeing so many options. After telling her we were bringing the mochi back home, she even offered to wrap the boxes and give us an ice pack so the mochi would stay fresh. You can never go wrong with the original chichi dango, but they also have other flavors such mango, lychee, strawberry, and melon chichi dango. I think these flavors might be revolving since last time I came here they had a banana flavor. The mochi with the lychee stuffed inside also tastes amazing! It's definitely my favorite but they only seem to make limited quantities of it each day. To make sure you're able to get the quantity you want, you can order in advance online. Besides mochi, you can also buy tropical flavored senbei, manju, lihing gummy bears, and a variety of other snacks. Overall, if you love mochi and yummy snacks, make sure to stop by and you will not regret it!

Yelp
Meticulous Ambiance. Service was Friendly and Super Helpful. We bought a few types of the dessert. The one that stood out the most (for me) was the Lychee Mochi. Im usually not a fan outside of traditional plain mochi, but wow...... They really put together fantastic Dessert Products here

Yelp
Good , Verry yummy i love it. Service good, i verry like this food. If you can, you need by 1 and try

Yelp
My mouth is watering as I type this. Ate the mochi on the shores of Waikiki and the whole scene melted away until it was just the two of us. The mochi is buttery soft and incredibly chewy with a good range of traditional and innovative flavors. Got the Christmas special which consists of a cranberry mochi, a mint chocolate mochi, and a strawberry white bean daifuku along with ramune chichi. The classic strawberry daifuku was MY FAVORITE! Never had a mint chocolate mochi in my life but it was surprisingly soo good; the mint cocoa filling tasted like a beautiful Christmas morning when the world is bathed in a golden light and feels young again. Truly the best mochi I've ever had!

Yelp
My Condo is a short distance from Fujiya Hawaii. When I am in Honolulu, I frequently stop by for some sweet Japanese treats. I love their Peanut Butter Mochi, Lichee Mochi, so refreshing and other assorted sweets/treats. The shop is clean, bright and welcoming. A great place to also get delicious gifts or desserts! I was just there today! I recommend stopping by if you are in the area.

Yelp
We LOVE finding local mochi whenever we visit Hawaii. This was our first time actively looking for a spot in Oahu. After a quick Yelp search we found this place. The mochi was sooo soft and tender. The way it's supposed to be and not like the store bought ones with preservatives. We got the ones with fruit in it and even their JUMBO one with a strawberry which I ate all to myself (-: Service was super friendly and the worker answered all the questions we had . We'll be back in October and can't wait to come back again.
google avatar

Toma C.

Yelp
Wow this place had the best peanut butter mochi. The strawberry was a winner too. I think it is so far the best mochi place we have gone to. They are bigger and so yummy yum yum. I am sad they are closed two days a week.
google avatar

Holly N.

Yelp
A friend told me about this place so we made a stop on our last day before leaving for the airport. The staff are super friendly and helpful with recommendations. Everyone who came in before and after us appeared to be long time regulars based on their conversations. I was momentarily distracted by the cute stickers and definitely bought more than I needed. My favorites are the haupia chi chi dango and the berry mochi. The mochi is SO soft and delicious. You MUST add this to your list!
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
We decided in the morning that we wanted to stop at Fujiya Hawaii for some fresh mochis to start our day. They have a huge selection of Mochi and manju. They do have prepackaged boxes so you can easily pick up one and go. But if you know what you want, you can ask them to customize your box. These were what we got in our box: Lychee Mochi Red Bean Manju Peanut Butter Mochi Passionfruit Yuzu Mochi Sweet Potato Manju Peanut Butter Chocolate Oreo Mochi . Everything was just so good. But the fresh fruit mochi was our favorite! They're so soft and pillowy and juicy. We definitely wanted to come back and try other flavors. If you're looking for delicious Mochi, this is definitely the place to go!
google avatar

Dank G.

Yelp
If you can find a better place, please let me know. This spot is definitely a gold standard. Mochi - well crafted, balanced and flavored. More strongly subtle than overpowering or popping. Peanut butter Passion Fruit (Lilikoi) (And - counter staff mystery pick) Chichi Dango Assorted Cookie- think flat and fresh fortune cookies, but gently flavored like fruit.

Yelp
This place has been around forever! It's a fun and cute place established in 1953. It's a melding of Japanese and Hawaiian flavors in colorfully delicious sweets. I stopped here to purchase some gifts and the lady working there was really helpful with her recommendations and they were all very accommodating to my travel needs. I ordered a large gift box containing an assortment of mochi sweets. The cruchy peanut butter is a store favorite. The habutae (red bean) and tsumami (white bean) have their respective loyal followers. The mango lilikoi mochi was a special for the day (and a personal favorite of mine). Just to add something different to the box, I also got the chocolate butter mochi and the lilikoi butter mochi, which have a more buttery consistency to the typical mochi. I also got a couple little lychee bites for the road and they were a great sweet pick-me-up. So excited to share these with my loved ones.

Yelp
Running over after picking up Minato's for the office. Parking sucks, but went just before the lunch run and had choke parking. By the time I grabbed all the food, parking was filled...but some lucky buggah got my stall. Grabbed a tray of pretty colored manju. And then oh no, boys' day! Totes forgot. Cute little chichidango trays with 3 diff flavors - green river, melon and I forget the other one. Bought 8...took the 6 up front and she had to run to the back to get more. Came out fast. SUUUUUPER nice and helpful workers. Asked if would last 3 days...yes, but no. Honesty...I like that. I got um anyways. All kine colorful senbei...think i'll stop there next time i need omiyage!

Yelp
Our new favorite mochi store! We tried six different mochi stores on our trip and this was our favorite. We got the peanut butter, pumpkin, red bean and plain. All were soft and scrumptous but a bit chewy, just like we like them. Oh so delicious!
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
My dad got me the mochi covered strawberry and chichi dango for girls day. And the strawberries were massive!!! They were delicious and the chichi dango was still soft even after putting it in the fridge. Not sure how much they were but I would image it was pretty pricey by the size of them.

Yelp
Oh Fujiya... how I love you so! The best, most softest and freshest mochi in town! I happened to have lunch in that same area and just had to pop in. It's a rather small store with the retail products in the front and the workers in the back behind a see-through window. Fujiya has been in business for over 120 years, so they're certainly doing something right! They offer mochi, manju, chichi dango, senbei, arare, flavored peanuts and a variety of other Japanese snacks. On this visit, I just picked up 2 peanut butter mochi, 2 mochi filled with strawberry and an assorted 3 pack of manju. Everything was so delicious and as mentioned before, their mochi is so soft! I love that they offer party platters and gift ideas as well. Service is very friendly and helpful. Parking can get tight at peak times so if the lot is filled, you'll need to find street parking. I will certainly be back soon!

Yelp
Wow what a gem. Mochi is delicious. So many varieties. Cute gifts to purchase as well. The staff are super helpful and they offer samples which helps to make decisions like should I buy one, two, no five ... just kidding. My fav is the peanut butter mochi. Mom loves chichi dango and I was surprised that she all of it!

Yelp
If you like fresh fruit mochi, come to Fujiya! My friend and I were craving mochi and decided to stop by Fujiya. The mochi comes packaged in multiples, so if you only want to try one of each, you'll have to call in a preorder. We decided to try the strawberry mochi, lychee bites, and the peanut butter mochi. The highlight was the strawberry mochi - the strawberry inside was so fresh and sweet, and the azuki that surrounded the strawberry paired well with the fruit and mochi. Perfect texture and flavor. The lychee bite was similarly good, and there was a whole lychee in the mochi. The peanut butter mochi had a nice crunch to it from the crunchy peanut butter that provided some good textural variety. I would highly recommend checking out Fujiya! It's a little on the expensive side, but so worth it if you're looking to treat yourself. The staff is also super friendly! And there is ample parking in the lot outside.

Yelp
One of our favorite mochi stops in Oahu!! We come here multiple times during our Hawaii trips and load up on mochi! We love Fujiya for their friendly staff, clean atmosphere & fresh FRUIT MOCHIS! They also have a parking lot which helps out lot. My personal favorite are the lychee bites, fresh strawberry, yuzu passion fruit & sweet potato mochis! Sweet potato mochi only comes around every once and awhile but seriously one of my favorites! They have lots of different chi chi dango flavors as well! The texture is a bit softer than Nisshodo, but the chi chi flavors are more natural tasting / not overly sweet or artificial tasting. We love the mango, haupia & lychee bites chi chi Dango! I wish they had lychee bites chi chi dango bc it's my absolute favorite! They have a great selection of snacks as well we love the shoyu peanuts and shrimp chips! They come in very cute bags perfect for gift giving!

Yelp
I love mochi and I usually have a go to stop normally but my husband was in the area and he picked up an assorted tray and a couple of strawberry mochis from here. I've had this once before and it's good. I like this tray because there's a good variety and it's a nice dessert item to take to a dinner. I love their mochi, especially their strawberry mochi. I don't usually try the manju because I always eat the mochi but maybe I gotta try it the next time. I haven't been to the store yet myself since my husband always seems to pick it up from there so I can't really review their service or the ambiance of the place. Me or my husband will definitely be back to pick up more when we are in the area again.

Yelp
My favorite mochi place on Oahu. Prices are a bit steep, yes, but the quality is worth it. They also have some unique flavors like lilikoi--this is by far my favorite one to get, so when they have them in stock, you already know I'm going to grab a few haha. I also love their strawberry mochi, but these go quickly. If you've ever had them, you'll understand why. The manju is just okay, I honestly prefer the ones at Sam Sato's on Maui. But if I ever crave some good, fruity mochi, this is my go-to place.

Yelp
I'm a huge lover of Japanese desserts, whether they range from the classic subtle flavors to the more impactful and instant flavors - one of the things that I don't often eat as much is mochi, and was recommended to try Fujiya's the next time I visited O'ahu. As soon as I bit into them, I could see why they were so famed - the flavor is way more stronger and instant as soon as you try them - from pineapple to ramune, you get to have a splash of it in your mouth, and you keep wanting to have more. The staff on top of that were super friendly and gave so many samples to try and take pictures of. The inside of the store is also really cute and has a great vibe to it. Stop by if you love sweets/want to find a great food gift for a family member, friend, or co-worker - Miguel Morales Photography

Yelp
Fujiya has the best chichi dango because it's soft and chewy. I eat it the same day but if I don't finish, I leave it in the fridge, and it still taste really good the next day. The regular & haupia dango in the small box ($6.95) is my go-to item but sometimes they'll have seasonal flavors like grape, mango, lilikoi, or POG. The seasonal flavors sell out quick and if you see them post it on Instagram, you need to call them right away to put a box on hold or to pre-order it. They also make daifuku (filled mochi), manju, senbei, and arare. Their most popular daifuki is the strawberry daifuku ($9.90 for 2 pieces) which has a giant strawberry in the center. I brought the chichi dango boxes with me when I traveled to the neighbor islands and to the mainland. The farthest I went was to the east coast (Boston) and I stored it in a cooler bag with ice packs as a carry-on item. It arrived safe and the friends who received it loved it. The best time to go is in the morning because all the items will be available. If you go after 1:30pm, most of the chichi dango and daifuku will be sold out. All their items are made fresh in the factory behind the glass window so it can be a bit pricey for some people. This isn't something you'd eat every day and it's a really good treat for me, so I don't mind spending the money on it. They also make platters for special occasion, and you can order those on their website or by phone. They're located in the McCully and Moiliili area behind Mr. Ojisan, the bright orange building on S. King Street. They share a parking lot with Minato Japanese Restaurant.
