A Running List of New Restaurants That Opened in New York City, October 2021 - Eater NY

"A pricey, new omakase destination has landed in the city. For $400 at Icca, diners get a 20-course tasting menu from Michelin-starred chef Kazushige Suzuki. A rep tells Eater that the restaurant is sourcing its ingredients from the Japanese acclaimed Toyosu and Kyushu fish markets." - Emma Orlow

Having passed through the newly renovated Fukuoka Airport in 2024, I was thoroughly impressed. While it retains its compact and manageable size, the updates have given it a wonderfully fresh and refreshing feel, making it a very pleasant place to arrive or depart from. The greatest advantage remains its incredible convenience. Its location is unbeatable, being one of the closest airports to a major city center in the world. The addition of free shuttle rides from the international terminal to the subway station is a fantastic touch, making the commute into the heart of Fukuoka an absolute breeze. It’s a model of efficiency and user-friendly design.

Nothing beats a direct flight to FUK. Fukuoka Airport is probably Japan's best airport in terms of proximity to the city centre. It is so convenient! Some tips for the airport: When you enter the arrival lobby and see the information centre and Tully's, the JR pass exchange counter is to your left. Next to it is a seasonal fruit store where you can score some great tasting produce. The SIM card/WiFi counters are on the right towards Lawson. Straight ahead is the bus berth taking you to Hakata, Dazaifu, Yufuin (if you want to hit the ground running!) The newly opened Food Hall you heard about is located in the transit area of departure terminal. The subway is exactly located at the domestic terminal, so if that's your mode of transport, take a shuttle over where you can also purchase their regional IC card (nimoca). You can also purchase Sugoca from the bus ticketing counter facing the road. We took the airport bus to Hakata, a 15-20 minutes ride to Hakata station, a main transport hub of Kyushu. The bus isn't very well-equiped in terms of luggage space, like a pre-converted bus that hasn't decided to leave it's day job.

Google
Be aware that the international and domestic terminals are in separate locations — you’ll need to take a shuttle bus for about 5–10 minutes. The airport itself is efficient, clean, and easy to navigate. Plenty of shops inside, with just the right balance — not overwhelming, but enough variety to find what you need. Security lines move quickly, making it one of Japan’s better airports for smooth travel.

Google
Fukuoka Airport leaves a mixed impression. On the positive side, the international terminal is clean, modern, and well maintained, with clear signage, spotless restrooms, free baggage carts, and a wide range of restaurants and souvenir shops. 👌 On the negative side, the connection (about 25 minutes) between the international terminal and the metro station located at the domestic terminal is a hassle. Passengers are forced to take a free shuttle bus, often standing with their luggage, just to cross the airfield. 🥴

Google
Such a pleasant little airport—compact, efficient, and actually quite pretty compared to many other international airports in Asia. Immigration was smooth and quick, plenty of seating areas, and a few lounges to relax in. Pro tip: take the metro to the last stop, Fukuoka Airport, then follow the exit for the free shuttle to the international terminal. It’s super quick, a short walk, and way easier than expected!

Google
The redesign is superb, especially the international departures area. I saw how it changed over time. During my visit in May 2025, a central food station (Hakata Food Station) was already in place, and duty-free stores were renovated. You will never run out of seats, charging stations, or toilets. It's one beautiful airport, I must say.

Google
Visited in July 2025 (International Terminal only) One of the reasons why this airport is great (for its users) is that it's located right in the downtown, with a subway line connecting both places. One even can walk from the shinkansen station to the international terminal in 30 minutes or slightly more if he/she is especially in a mood of a walk or a bit energetic. The international terminal itself is well designed, easy to use, and stylish for a medium-sized airport. I saw some reviews posted some months ago complaining the lackluster quantity of seating in the airside - can confirm this problem is largely rectified.

Google
Fukuoka Airport is a great airport. Clean, well-maintained, and very organized. Facilities are modern, signage is clear, and the overall layout makes it easy to navigate. Staff are friendly and efficient, making the travel experience smooth from check-in to boarding. A pleasant gateway to Kyushu!

Yelp
This review is only on wheelchair service and accommodations for those in need. When you leave Hawaii and your senior years decides to call the shots just before your flight, you might need to request a wheelchair to meet you at the plane's doorway upon arrival. Upon landing: Wait until the flight crew gives you the thumbs up that the wheel chairs have arrived. Oh boy, the "chair" was very compact and women were assigned to push them. My lady was so petite yet she got hefty me through so quickly I had to say "choto matte, husband" pointing to him for her to stop and allow hubs to catch up. She checked our arrival forms and paused then a gentleman came out of the last closed door to assist. It was on a lower counter to scan your two index fingers and my photo looked like a chimpanzee. Thank goodness it wasn't for my passport or drivers license. So considerate she asked me if I wanted to use the restroom before retrieving our luggage. I used the large one for handicapped people before the regular stalls. Hubs had gotten our luggage so she asked if anyone was meeting us. I said, no, taking taxi to hotel. She took us out to the curb, waited til we were settled in then bowed as we left. She made me feel like royalty. Such dedication to her job and kindness shown regarding the condition I was in.

Yelp
The staff was extremely helpful as they are still within their COVID protocol, unlike us in the states. Real easy....if you see your boarding pass and it reads Terminal D...D equals Domestic. You will go down to baggage claim from the international airport, head outside, find bus stop 1...and it will shuttle you to the Domestic airport. READ SIGNS! If you don't or have jetlag brain...you will force confusion on yourself. Take a deep breath, I know your pooped from the long travel....but it'll be alright. Also....at the domestic airport, be conscious of the north and south wing departure. After checking-in, head to the 2nd floor or 2F. Again, READ SIGNS! There is a North and South TSA checkpoint. Again, take a deep breath....and you will get there. Look around if you're feeling frantic, and follow their calm. :) Happy travels!

Yelp
Now they have a ramen noodle street. If you go there earlier, they are close. I recommend an udon noodle restaurant then. And pls don't forget to purchase Hakatatoorimon. The sweet is a great souvenir.

Yelp
A decent sized airport that isn't too overwhelming to figure out. It has a subway connected to it so it's an easy and cheap metro ride into downtown which is very convenient. There are a few restaurants and shops but there looks like there is a lot that is under construction in the domestic terminal. Arriving, the first impression was not impressive with plastic lining the ceiling as the whole section was still being worked on. However the other departure gates are nicely done and once the work is all finished there looks like there will be plenty more stores and restaurants. The bathrooms are decent but half an hour wait for the women's bathroom was a little ridiculous. Checkin kiosks and counters were easy to find and everything was labeled in a few different languages. Fukuoka is a fun city so will probably be back for more!

Yelp
I really hate flying, but the airports can help make or break me when it comes to my flying experience. I LOVE the FUK airport. So much shopping, amazingly clean, and hands down the most exquisite first class lounge I've ever been to. The check in process was smooth and easy, they had bag check early in case you wanted to leave and come back, and currency exchange in case you had leftover yen you wanted to move over to $ on the way home. I would absolutely fly into FUK again. The bus, subway, and train system are all easily accessible, there's lots of help for those who don't speak Japanese, and they sell Hakata Torimon in both arrivals and departures, which is one of the best Japanese desserts you can find. FUK is a win in international travel!

Yelp
I flew through here on stop over. A nice airport undergoing a little contruction but nothing really bothersome. I did not realize how close to the city it is until I looked out the window. A major city is right there. Their are several restaurants on the 3 level. It was not very busy when I passed though but I did have a really good sushi meal upstairs. Only complaint and it was not major because the Japanese airports are a whole lot more efficient than US airports was that I had to go through security again to board my connecting flight. I followed everyone off the airplane and usually you end up in the boarding area. To get to my gate, I had to walk out like I was getting luggage and I ended up outside the security area. Having plenty of time if was not problem. I had lunch upstairs then went through security again to get to my gate. I was on a domestic connection so I found it a little strange.

Yelp
I find Fukuoka Airport one of the most convenient airports in Japan I been to. FUK is just a subway ride a way from JR Hakata Station and cost only 260 Yen and takes 10 minute or so. Compares to some other airports that might cost you thousands! FUK is clean and modern. A lot of restaurants and shops in both International and domestic terminals. FUK is tourist friendly as there are tons of Foreign Language signs and information in Korean, Chinese and English for International visitors. But if you fly into the International terminal, you do needs to take a shuttle bus in order to get to domestic terminal where you can get on the subway. Not good if you have a lot of luggage. The shuttle bus can be packed at times. Free Wifi!

Yelp
Just flown in this evening and boy are my arms tired... Not as great as Tokyo/Narita airport, but still cleaner than the average US airport. Not much here on this side of the Domestic arrivals, since I gotta bum a free shuttle ride to Sasebo. Haven't been in this part of the world in about 3 years, but the locals are still just as friendly as ever- always smiling and bowing. Too tired to eat anything...

Yelp
Small airport Domestic flights only Good restaurants passing Security check. Airport divided in North and South North 1-4 has better places to eat. Small counters with chairs to charge your phone against the wall. . Airport is still in renovations

Yelp
FUK is the airport I arrived on my first international business trip when I started traveling for work. I've visited here countless number of times but still can't get over their airport code. Unlike what the airport code may or may not imply, this airport is efficiently run and conveniently located. It's only two stations away ¥270 for subway ticket to the main Hakata station. So close to the city center, and easy to get to any place from Hakata train station. Easy to navigate, good bus system to connect domestic and international terminals. Plenty of shops for souvenirs and wide variety of restaurants. Security line goes smooth, when they say busy that means 10 mins wait which is really nothing. Plenty of flight availability from Haneda, hourly by both JAL and ANA. Some international direct flight including HNL, ICN, SIN, TPE, PVG (those are where I used in the past), less busy compared to other major airports in Japan, ideal for a quick trip to nearby countries.

Yelp
First time visit to FUKUOKA and I just wanted to say WOW ! this airport is HUGE with separate Domestic and International terminals. FOOD and SHOPPING can't beat slurping on a bowl of udon noodles near your departure gate. They are organized and very polite :) will have to visit again soon

Yelp
Best sushi bar so far we have been to in Fukuoka. Amazing how fast the service is and who would expect a great sushi bar at an Airport Prices are very good. Just like Midori sushi in Yokohama
google avatar

Yelp
Customer service is terrible. Civilian security company that runs the security check point, are either grossly underpaid or undertrained, as they were beset with confusion. It's a central hub for connecting flights to Korea, so plan accordingly or avoid it all together by booking a flight to a different airport.

Yelp
3 - 3.5 stars. Small - conveniently attached to public transportation to the city. Duty-free shopping - insane. They had one duty free shop in the area we departed from - and I literally got bruises on my arms from everyone's elbows. I will say though that is is convenient in terms of seamlessly hopping on to the train to the city core. If you decide to duty-free purchase, put on a padded suit for protection against the elbows and pushing and shoving ...

Yelp
Fukuoka International Airport WICKED EFFICIENT !!! This was one of the cleanest, smoothest running and efficient airports that I have ever had the pleasure of flying into. Getting through Immigration and Customs was smooth as butter - even with a wife with a different last name ( we sat in a room with no windows before for this in another country - seriously). Heck, even our bags were out and waiting for us at the baggage claim ( and we flew Delta .... I know, crazy right ?!?! ) Another plus is the proximity of the airport to the city.

Yelp
Anyway far to international counter. In addition, various types of sign, such as shop guidance signboard . noticebisd trancefer. . . also foreign language display is small.. It is difficult to use but very small airport here.

Yelp
I will just get to the point - this Airport was a nightmare to get around! We took a bus and got dropped off up front. We weaved forever through the Airport to finally get to the Ana Check in counter. They were doing construction but from what I can tell it will just make the airport look ok nicer but the nightmare will still exist! I will avoid this cluster in the future!

Yelp
Small airport, but you can get here directly via the subway. It is only 2 stops away from Hakata Station Everything seemed so new! And on top of that they also have the bottle scanner, so you don't have to chug your liquids before you go on your flight. I was able to hang out with my friends while hunting down souvenirs and treats to bring back to the US. Loved waiting for my flight and Fukuoka itself. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
The great thing about Fukuoka Airport (FUK) is that it is so close to the city. Hakata Station is just two stops away from the airport and Tenjin is five stops away on the Fukuoka City Subway. You will spend less time commuting to and from this airport compared with other Japanese international airports like Narita that are located far away from the city core. Though you might want to add some time getting to the subway from the airport if your flight is out of the International Terminal. The subway stop is below the Domestic Terminal which is not connected with the International one. Instead, you need to take an airport bus (it's free) from the Domestic Terminal to the International Terminal. Bus ride takes about 15 minutes. There is also a bus that goes from Tenjin to the International Terminal, but I found the schedule had limited runs. Taxis are also an option. Since the city is so close, you won't run as huge of a tab. If you are flying from the US, chances are that you are flying into the Domestic Terminal (likely from Haneda, Kansai or Narita). Though not in my case as I flew in directly from Honolulu, the only US gateway (not counting Guam) with a link to Fukuoka. Still, I recommend this airport as an international gateway since the line through customs is quicker than flying into a larger airport like Narita. As for the International Terminal, there are not a whole lot of amenities. A few full service eateries and souvenir shops outside the departure gates. Near the gates, you will find just a couple of snack shop eateries selling basic fare, a few duty free souvenir shops and one big duty free store in the center of it all selling alcohol, cosmetics and other luxury goods. I did find the souvenir shops handy as they sold popular food items like Nagasaki castella, green tea Kit Kat, Shiroi Koibito cookies and Tokyo Banana if you are looking for these products. If you buy food omiyage here, please be sure the products can be brought into the country you are travelling to. In terms of convenience, I like Fukuoka Airport. Just wish there were maybe a couple more eateries near the International Terminal gates. Not exactly the greatest airport to wait for your plane at. Though at least there is free Wi-Fi to pass the time.

Yelp
I loved this airport. Small and a little older, but so friendly and easy to navigate! It's a really quick subway ride from Hakata Station which was really appreciated. After arriving in the station you can take a free shuttle bus to the terminal you need. I thought it was so cute that there were two girls in yukata holding a banner that said, "Welcome to Fukuoka!" as the shuttle arrived to the international terminal. Since it's small, it's very easy to figure out where to go and what to do. I had to give back a wifi router that I had rented in Narita Airport, and finding the desk to do so was effortless. Everything you need is in a small entrance which is convenient. I was able to return my router and exchange my extra money at a counter just a few steps away. Upstairs were the check-in counters and I had a short wait there to check in. There were a lot of souvenir options before security and a pretty good duty-free after security. The duty free had pretty long lines but the cashiers got people in and out quickly! They opened a smaller duty-free at the other end of the gates that had no lines for people looking for the most popular items like snacks and Royce chocolate. Skincare items were only available at the duty-free right past security. Security was a breeze! Talk about customer service. They greeted me warmly and handed me back my things after they went through the machine and wished me a great flight with a smile. What a stark contrast to the United States! Free wifi is available which is a serious plus for me. I love traveling throrugh FUK!

Yelp
This is a small airport considering it services the largest city in Kyushu. Still there are a lot of shops in here to buy some gifts or snacks. When we were there in May of 2017 they were selling these strawberry mini cake snacks. They were all over the place. Wasn't too impressed with it, but they had some really good bento lunches. Even picked up some Hakata style ramen. Will have to try that out when I get home.

Yelp
Regional airport that I quickly travelled through as part of a work trip. From the downtown area of Fukuoka, the taxi ride was about 1300 yen. You could also readily take the subway if you wanted to save money though. The taxi ride was about 15 minutes with light early morning traffic. I was encouraged to arrive no earlier than an hour before my flight. I think I gave myself 40 minutes and that was more than adequate. The airport itself is a bit older. Not a lot of seating options at the gates. The gate agents all spoke English, there was signage in English, and announcements were also made in English, which was all very helpful to me. The two flights that I had through this airport required a shuttle bus to the plane and then walking on the tarmac and up a flight of stairs to the plane, so plan accordingly with regards to comfort and luggage.

Yelp
Passed through Fukuoka airport and found it relatively clean and professional. For the most part, I believed the service would be fast... but we got horribly held up by check-in due to them not realizing I even had a ticket to begin with which was a little "huh" and almost got me stranded in Fukuoka. We finally were able to show our itinerary, and they double checked it and looked us up and realized "oh, yes, you do have tickets." Of course, we do.... what the heck guys. It was part of a bunch of bad complications from Naha with our ticketing though. Then, after a long hold up, we were finally able to pass through only to be met with the most jaded customs employee I've ever met. Someone give that guy a break and let him air out his lungs and mind. There is a bus system on site that can take you to the international terminal or cargo or where have you. We came in from the domestic terminal. Just go outside and hop on a terminal bus. It's a relatively quick ride. Otherwise, I wish I had time to look at the shops. I really wanted a snack for the flight to Manila, but we were rushed, yet again, due to all the complications. As an airport, though, I liked it. The cleanliness, efficiency, and, for the most part, friendly staff was nice. Hope to visit Fukuoka airport again in the future.

Yelp
This is a small airport. Airline check in on first floor. Second floor to departure gate. Foodies be aware. If you are catching a domestic flight and want a bowl of Hakata ramen before you left Fukuoka, go through security and go to ichiran. It's located right next to gate 4. If you have Ana lounge access, go to the lounge. You will go through the security check point there before you enter the lounge.Don't have to wait in line. The lounge is directly accessible to the gate.

Michael B.

Yelp
This airport is so convenient that you can leave less than one hour before your flight and still go through security and check in and still have time to enjoy the new food court. Also the closeness and easy access to the subway makes going and coming to this airport one of the best in the world! Can't wait for the new renovations so I can stop taking busses to the actual planes for the cheaper airlines =)

Christofer G.

Yelp
The airport is conveniently located close to the city, so it's only a short cab ride to get there. Navigation inside is not a problem due to the small size.
