San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"If a $575 pistachio cake topped with 24-karat gold flakes sounds like something you’d be into, then here’s exciting news: Full Belly Bakery in Oakland’s Montclair is a cake oasis. But if $575 feels like too much, all other cakes, like the caramel pecan carrot cake and the sweet potato basque cheesecake, are more within reason ($25-$40). You’ll also find loads of pastries including banana bread and scones. " - Ricky Rodriguez

Here Are the Hottest New Restaurants in the East Bay, January 2024

"Beautiful cakes are the main draw at the new Fully Belly Bakery from founder Eva Allen, with seasonal offerings (and various price points) to meet every occasion. But beyond the cakes, there are smaller treats too if a whole cake feels a bit much for the moment. Look for banana bread, ginger molasses cookies, or pistachio chocolate truffles." - Dianne de Guzman

New, Black-Owned Shop Fully Belly Bakery Will Bring Both Affordable and Extravagant Cakes to Oakland | Eater SF

"I'm excited that Eva Allen is opening her first permanent space in Oakland’s Montclair neighborhood on October 20, with a grand opening from 2 to 8 p.m. — a Black-owned, classic neighborhood bakery where Allen says, “Selfishly, my goal is to take over the dessert space.” The year-round cake lineup includes a five-flavor Gratification Collection and a three-flavor seasonal Indulgence Collection, plus an Extravagant Collection that showcases her passion projects; on opening that features a pistachio sponge layered with Moro blood orange curd, whipped Ambanja, and Madagascar-sourced chocolate ganache topped with edible 24K gold leaf (an eight-inch cake is $575). Pastries and breads complement the cakes—quick breads (banana, zucchini), savory and sweet tarts, cookies, chocolate truffles, gluten-free cheesecakes, scones, and a few weekend-only breads like a garlic pesto brioche roll (the buttery garlic rolls are expected to fly off the racks). Cakes are largely meant for pre-order, though slices and cake cups will be available, and Allen is pursuing a liquor license (if that doesn’t work out she may open another spot for Champagne and dessert). After the grand opening, hours will be Thursday–Saturday 11 a.m.–6 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m.–2 p.m., and Allen has already been building neighborhood support by bringing sheet cakes, hosting giveaways, and coordinating weekend bread offerings with the farmers market." - Paolo Bicchieri

Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe Opens in South Lake - Eater SF

"Full Belly Bakery debuted its new permanent space in Oakland, luring in customers with the promise of both the affordable and luxurious sweets. Chef Eva Allen will have an assortment of pastries including sweet and savory tarts, cookies, chocolate truffles, and more — as well as the Extravagent Collection, lux cakes that are Allen’s passion project and skew decadent, such as a gold-leaf topped pistachio sponge cake." - Lauren Saria

Upcoming Oakland Bakery Wants to Fill Your Belly With Slices of Cake and Glasses of Champagne | Eater SF

"Coming to the Montclair neighborhood of Oakland in fall 2023, Full Belly Bakery is owner Eva Allen’s first permanent storefront after years of selling decadent desserts and cake jars at Oakland Roots games and Berkeley Bowl and fulfilling custom orders. Allen, who opened the bakery in 2018 to counter overly sweet cakes, aims to create a go-to dessert destination open from the late morning into the evening for a glass of Champagne and a slice after dinner, emphasizing quality, savory cakes and sustainability. Her inventive riffs on classics include raspberry red velvet and caramel pecan carrot cake, and she upcycles cake scraps into popular bread pudding bites that she donates through East Oakland Collective’s Feed the Hood program. As a Black woman in the East Bay who faced limited financial opportunities, she secured a small loan with help from Damon Johnson and the Oakland Black Business Fund to make the storefront possible." - Paolo Bicchieri

We corresponded with Eva from Full Belly Bakery for our delivered wedding cakes and had a great experience. Very responsive. Helped me bring my vision to life! She even delivered the cake to our venue in Pescadero and, upon arrival, arranged the wedding cake flowers on the cake. It was magnificent and SO delicious! (Definitely get a sampler package so you can pick your favorite!). I will be returning to Full Belly Bakery for many years to come.

We really enjoyed working with Eva at Full Belly Bakery to create our wedding cake! From initial discussions to the day-of, Eva was super helpful in helping us figure out what kind of cake would be best suited for our wedding given our tastes, guest count, and budget. She also worked seamlessly with our florist and coordinator to make sure that the cake was delivered on time and also decorated beautifully with flowers from our florist. We had many guests comment on how delicious our strawberry guava cake was, including from folks who don’t usually like desserts. We love that we’ll be able to go visit Full Belly Bakery and have a slice of our wedding cake again!

We ordered one of Full Belly Bakery's seasonal flavors 'Coconut Passion Fruit' as a cutting cake for our wedding, and I am not exaggerating when I say that it was the BEST cake that we have ever tried in our lives. Both the flavors and the textures of the cake were absolutely sublime. If we were to do it all again, the only difference I would make is to work with Eva to create a custom cake, but the standard one that we ordered was more than satisfactory for our special day.

I tried their chocolate chip walnut cookie (10/10), peanut butter miso cookie (9/10 - just want it to be a little thicker), guava strawberry cake (10/10), lemon raspberry cake (9/10 - I just want a little more raspberry filling in between), triple chocolate cake (9/10 - cake was a little dense, but overall good when eaten as a full line of cake rather than breaking it into smaller bites). Not too sweet, great flavors, super kind owner & staff. Will be back again and again! Especially for that guava cake & chocolate chip cookie!

Full Belly, full heart, can't lose. We hired Eva to bake our wedding cake, and even though the wedding was months ago, our guests are STILL raving about the cake! People literally brought their second slices onto the dance floor because they couldn't get enough. We went into the cake tasting pretty sure we knew what we wanted (triple chocolate), but all of the flavors were so good, it actually was a tough call! I never met a carrot cake I liked until I met Eva's, and we even joked that we wished we were having a bigger wedding to need a second cake so we could have more of the Berry Gentilly. We did end up going with the triple chocolate, which was the perfect balance of rich, indulgent flavor without being too sweet! Throughout the whole process, Eva was a proactive and clear communicator, and she made sure everything went smoothly on the day of the wedding! We can't recommend her enough!

I purchased my wedding cutting cake from Full Belly and we absolutely loved it! We got the vanilla, strawberry, and guava small sized cake and the flavor + presentation of it were just perfect. Strongly recommend!

My wedding cake was AMAZING!! The flavors Full Belly has to choose from are so delicious. Eva also did a custom design on the cake for us. It turned out better than I could have ever hoped! THANK YOU!!!

Been following for awhile and vaguely remember trying the cake jars awhile back. Just so happened to be in Montclair so I stopped by. Bakery is cute and tiny offering an array of delicious treats. I grabbed some cookies and tried a sample of the herb and onion focaccia… WOAH! I contemplated because (carbs you know 😩) but the deliciousness over took me and I grabbed a loaf. So delicious! Can’t wait to try salted caramel banana bread but believe they were sold out. Congratulations and if this is a preview of businesses to come to Montclair then I am really excited for the town.
