"Coming to the Montclair neighborhood of Oakland in fall 2023, Full Belly Bakery is owner Eva Allen’s first permanent storefront after years of selling decadent desserts and cake jars at Oakland Roots games and Berkeley Bowl and fulfilling custom orders. Allen, who opened the bakery in 2018 to counter overly sweet cakes, aims to create a go-to dessert destination open from the late morning into the evening for a glass of Champagne and a slice after dinner, emphasizing quality, savory cakes and sustainability. Her inventive riffs on classics include raspberry red velvet and caramel pecan carrot cake, and she upcycles cake scraps into popular bread pudding bites that she donates through East Oakland Collective’s Feed the Hood program. As a Black woman in the East Bay who faced limited financial opportunities, she secured a small loan with help from Damon Johnson and the Oakland Black Business Fund to make the storefront possible." - Paolo Bicchieri
