Lively Japanese tapas tavern drawing regulars with fried chicken wings & sake in intimate digs.
"Furaibo is one of Sawtelle’s old-guard restaurants, but it still holds its own among the newer openings that have cropped up around it. This dark and moody izakaya space involves separate tatami rooms, beer and sake glasses that never go empty, and bite-size snacky foods to keep the Asahi from going straight to your head. Furaibo is big and full of tables, so gather the crew, order multiple rounds of their signature tebasaki-style wings, and generally cut loose." - brant cox, sylvio martins, arden shore
"Located in the heart of Sawtelle's Japantown, with a second location in Gardena, Furaibo is a tiny izakaya with tremendous tebasaki-style chicken wings. A specialty of Nagoya, a city in central Japan, these wings are twice-fried in a savory-sweet glaze (no breading or batter) giving them a distinct crispy skin that crackles as you bite into them. These are the kind of light, airy chicken wings that you can eat a dozen of and not even blink (and we blink a lot). If you’re looking for some heat, go for the extra spicy (it’s not too intense), but otherwise, the earthy sweetness of the mild is great, too. " - nikko duren, garrett snyder, brant cox
