Best Restaurants and Bars in Fenway | Eater Boston

"A pleasant spot for hot and cold udon options, including some more unique spins, such as the cold Mad Tiger udon with spicy miso pork and cherry tomatoes." - Celina Colby

Best Japanese Restaurants in Boston | Eater Boston

"This Fenway udon shop is known for its large, creative selection of freshly made udon dishes, from a cold udon topped with a handsome amount of sea urchin to miso carbonara udon. But it’s the sukiyaki udon that truly shines, with the noodles swimming in a semi-clear broth of slightly sweet and fatty braised beef slices. The owners Minh Bui and Xue Zhen Cao are behind the opening team at beloved soba house Sugidama in Somerville, which is rumored to reopen soon near its original location." - Valerie Li Stack

Best Udon in and Around Boston | Eater Boston

"Futago means “twins” in Japanese, giving a very cute reason behind the name of this Brookline udon establishment that opened in 2019. The udon is house-made each day, and the menu features a huge range of hot and cold udon choices, including a hot sukiyaki udon and, pictured, a spicy miso pork-topped cold udon. Futago is currently open for indoor dining, takeout, and delivery." - Karen Wilber

Futago Udon - Review - Fenway - Boston - The Infatuation

"Futago is a nice little neighborhood udon spot in Audubon Circle. It serves cold bowls in addition to warm ones, so you don’t need to completely forsake it for the few months a year when just thinking about a big bowl of hot broth makes you sweat. That’s good news, because this airy spot with a few outdoor tables is a good option to grab lunch any time." - Dan Secatore

Futago Udon to Open in Boston - Eater Boston

"Futago Udon is a new Japanese noodle restaurant set to open in Boston's Audubon Circle area of Fenway. It has taken over the former Jimmy John’s space, focusing on both hot and cold udon noodles. The interior of the restaurant has been renovated, featuring a colorful mural with the name Futago. The individuals behind Futago are Minh Bui and Xue Zhen Cao, who are also part of the team behind Sugidama in Somerville." - Dana Hatic

Tried the Uni Cream Udon ($32), Sukiyaki Udon ($24), and Chicken Tatsuta-Age ($9). Both the udons were delicious - great flavor in both. Cream udon was very creamy and the uni and crab made the dish better. The sukiyaki was light but also savory. The portion sizes are pretty large too, so I guess that justifies the prices. My two biggest complaints are that they charged us an extra $6 for “better” uni since they were out of the original uni that comes with the cream udon. If you’re out, that’s on you and you shouldn’t be up-charging $6 for a different uni OR offer the cream udon without uni at a lower price. The second issue is that the service is pretty lackluster - they don’t really care for you after you place your order and they rush you out. This has potential for 5/5 food, but the bad service and up charge left me with a bad experience.

The udon noodles were so chewy and one of the best noodles I’ve had thus far in the states. The portion sizes are also huge and very filling. Fried oysters were a bit expensive for how many it came. If you don’t want to wait, I recommend coming before 6pm. We waited about 20 minutes for a seat.

Cute place! Kind of pricy, but the bowls are huge and the menu has sooo many options! I personally love any of the creamy broths with crab, such a unique taste

The uni udon was one of my favorite meals in Boston! Noodles were chewy and the uni, crab and roe made it a decadent meal. Super pleased with the quality, taste and service. I came around 5 pm on a Sunday and did not have to wait. Recommended if you love seafood and udon!

I visited this udon restaurant today after hearing great things about their sea urchin udon. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The sea urchin looked off in color, not the usual bright yellow, and tasted very unfresh with a strong chemical-like flavor, almost like formalin. When I brought this up to the server, their response was quite rude and dismissive, saying I had almost finished it, even though I only took a few bites. They did replace the dish with a pork and kimchi udon, but it wasn’t much better, with too much fat on the pork. Overall, not a great dining experience, and I won't come back.

THE BEST Udon place in Boston. I crave their sukiyaki every 2 weeks and when I tell you this bowl completes me, I really meant it! The broth, the noodle the topping, just everything about their food is amazing! I should really branch out and taste more options but their sukiyaki is just THAT good I go back to it every time I come! Their portion is huge I never leave this place hungry and unsatisfied. Wait time is hit or miss they do get lots of businesses so depends lm the time you’re coming, we didn’t have to wait at all yesterday! Server isn’t too friendly, but accommodating. Parking is hard to find because it’s Boston, but trust me this place is WORTH! Update: The servers are RUDE. Every time I come they don’t even seem to want to work. We’re paying customers that tips, so I don’t know what is the problem. I don’t think asking to have some more time to look at the menu, or a straw is unreasonable especially when they weren’t even that busy. And no, we’re not chain ordering. You guys need to do better!

We stopped in at Futago Udon on Sunday for lunch in January. Free 2 hours down the street. Fried purple sweet potato has a crunchy taste with simple sauce for appetizers. Then fried pork curry soup and tender pork Udon with miso broth. Perfect for warming up on a cold day

They have a variety of udon flavors and honestly all of them are probably good, but I really recommend the Cheese Niku Curry Udon. It was soooo goood 10/10.
