"A pleasant spot for hot and cold udon options, including some more unique spins, such as the cold Mad Tiger udon with spicy miso pork and cherry tomatoes." - Celina Colby

"This Fenway udon shop is known for its large, creative selection of freshly made udon dishes, from a cold udon topped with a handsome amount of sea urchin to miso carbonara udon. But it’s the sukiyaki udon that truly shines, with the noodles swimming in a semi-clear broth of slightly sweet and fatty braised beef slices. The owners Minh Bui and Xue Zhen Cao are behind the opening team at beloved soba house Sugidama in Somerville, which is rumored to reopen soon near its original location." - Valerie Li Stack

"Futago means “twins” in Japanese, giving a very cute reason behind the name of this Brookline udon establishment that opened in 2019. The udon is house-made each day, and the menu features a huge range of hot and cold udon choices, including a hot sukiyaki udon and, pictured, a spicy miso pork-topped cold udon. Futago is currently open for indoor dining, takeout, and delivery." - Karen Wilber

"Futago is a nice little neighborhood udon spot in Audubon Circle. It serves cold bowls in addition to warm ones, so you don’t need to completely forsake it for the few months a year when just thinking about a big bowl of hot broth makes you sweat. That’s good news, because this airy spot with a few outdoor tables is a good option to grab lunch any time." - Dan Secatore

"Futago Udon is a new Japanese noodle restaurant set to open in Boston's Audubon Circle area of Fenway. It has taken over the former Jimmy John’s space, focusing on both hot and cold udon noodles. The interior of the restaurant has been renovated, featuring a colorful mural with the name Futago. The individuals behind Futago are Minh Bui and Xue Zhen Cao, who are also part of the team behind Sugidama in Somerville." - Dana Hatic

Came here around 6-630 on a Friday night and was able to get a seat without waiting. Ordered some takoyaki and edamame for starters which were pretty solid. For udon, we ordered the pork kimchi udon and the sukiyaki udon. Both were really good and I would recommend both. At the end, the waiter poured my leftover noodles in the takeout cup perfectly and I was in awe. Coming earlier around 6 is perfect on a weekend night because when we left there was a line out the door waiting for a table. Definitely would come back again for a hot giant serving of noodles.

The food here absolutely delicious. The portion here is pretty solid and big so if you’re looking to have a good meal here, absolutely worth it. The cold noodles here is to die for, I got here the Uni & Ikura (they didn’t have any more uni when I was there but they compensated for more ikura which was really nice of them) and the Mentaiko udon (the broth was light and flavorful of creamy mushroom, the roes was really good addition and the snow crab meat tasted fresh). Highly recommended if you are craving on udon hot or cold❗️❗️

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Futago Udon in Boston, where I indulged in their Spicy Dan Dan Noodles and Curry Fried Chicken. As someone who appreciates attention to detail, I was thoroughly impressed by this culinary experience. Futago Udon’s Spicy Dan Dan Noodles were a flavor explosion, with just the right amount of kick. The noodles were perfectly cooked, showcasing their commitment to quality. The Curry Fried Chicken, on the other hand, was a delightful surprise – crispy, flavorful, and served with an exquisite curry sauce. Beyond the exceptional food, I must commend the restaurant for its inviting ambiance and the attentive staff. It’s evident that they take pride in offering not just a meal but a memorable experience. Whether you’re a graduate student, a working professional, or a young parent, Futago Udon promises a fantastic escape from the daily routine. I wholeheartedly recommend this local gem for a culinary adventure you won’t soon forget.

Absolutely delicious udon dishes, very highly recommended! I had the uni cream udon, and the rich and creamy broth complemented the uni, crab, and roe very well. Would definitely love to come back again to try more of their dishes!

There were some intriguing selections of udon flavors they offer. Despite being a busy weekday, the wait was surprisingly short, lasting around 20 minutes. I will say probably not a place that is worth waiting for more than an hour. The prices here are exceptionally budget-friendly, making it an attractive option for anyone seeking a delicious yet affordable meal.

Solid udon spot near BU. During the pandemic, I used to alternate between Futago, Tsurutontan, and Yume Ga Arukara for my udon cravings. Even with a bunch of new Japanese restaurants popping up nearby, Futago is still super popular among students. I recently went there for dinner, and even though we got there after 7 PM on a weekday, we still had to wait about 30 minutes. From the appetizers, most of their fried dishes are good, but my favorites are the fried squid legs and baby octopus. The fried chicken can be hit or miss, as I've had some dry pieces in the past. For takeouts, I usually go for their curry udon, but on my recent visit, I decided to try the Uni Cream Udon and the Cold Mentaiko Udon. The udon noodles at Futago are a bit thicker than I usually prefer, but the chilled Mentaiko sauce on the Cold Mentaiko Udon gave them a nice, chewy texture. Topped with snow crab, bonito flakes, and shiso leaf, it was spot-on in both flavor and texture. The Uni Cream Udon was similar, but the warm sauce made the texture a bit less exciting. On the side, we also had the Spicy Miso Pork Don. The spicy sauce, rich with chili and sesame oil, made the ground pork taste more like a Chinese rice bowl. Still, the combination of pork, mushrooms, and creamy yolk was satisfying. While Futago Udon may not have the best udon in the city, it is still a great option if you're in the area and craving some comforting Japanese food. Plus, the lively atmosphere make it a fun place to dine with friends.

Uni udon is really creamy and tastes good and the sukiyaki udon contains tofu, egg, beef and veggies. Fried chicken is good as well. Overall I like the food here but if you come in the dinner time on the weekend, probably need to wait for a while because they don’t accept reservations and it’s quite popular.
