Where to eat when you're hungover.

"We always feel taken care of in Koreatown, thanks to all the 24-hour restaurant options. It’s a place where you can drink until you have the courage to sing Landslide at karaoke, then grab a healing soup after the sun comes up. Gammeeok specializes in a noodle soup with ox-bone broth and brisket, and we recommend getting some fried chicken and kimchi pancakes as well. " - neha talreja

Gammeeok - Review - Koreatown - New York - The Infatuation

"You finish a truly glorious rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody at a karaoke spot in K-Town, and then realize that all you’ve consumed for the past five hours is soju and light beer. Fortunately, Gammeeok is open 24 hours, and the food here is exactly the kind of sustenance you’ll want after a long night of drinking and singing. They specialize in a noodle soup with ox-bone broth and brisket, and we recommend getting some fried chicken and kimchi pancakes as well. Sit at a table by the floor-to-ceiling window, and when you notice the sun coming up, you should probably take that as a sign to call it a night." - Matt Tervooren

The food itself was tasty, but the service was really disappointing. I asked for more kimchi several times and even made eye contact with the staff, but they ignored me until I finished my meal—then they said they would bring it. That’s unacceptable. On top of that, when I ordered seolleongtang, our table didn’t even get green onions, which is a basic part of the dish. I came here as a traveler to enjoy Korean food in New York, and while the dishes were good, the service left me very disappointed.

Google
We had a good authentic hot Korean meal. First come kim Chi, pickled cabbage & white radish in spicy sauce. Yum. Very fast service as meals were served without much waiting time. Staff are response & friendly. Food tasted good and served hot.

Google
We came here on a Friday night after the wait at another Ktown restaurant was too long. I actually quite liked the kimchi jigae - it was rich, spicy, and piping hot. I thought their kimchi was decent, but I would have expected there to be more dishes. A decent, casual, and affordable Korean restaurant in Ktown.

Google
I came here late one evening after the club with friends and thought the food was really mid. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and there's lots of seating. Service is also okay. We ordered soups, a seafood pancake, and their galbi. All of their food was really mid. I was heavily disappointed by their seafood pancake, which barely had any seafood in it.

Google
$43 for just this?? Ordered bossam for takeout. No rice, no ssam (lettuce wraps), just a few slices of pork and some pickled sides. For $43 I expected at least a full set. Portion was disappointing for the price. Never ordering again.

Google
Great 24hr place for some decent Korean food. The seolleng tang was very flavorful and I would recommend this. The broth was nice and rich. You have to season the soup yourself which is the norm. However, they added rice to the soup which is normally just served on the side. The kimchi pancake was thick and felt like it was pre-fried and just sitting out. The kimchi jeongol was also thick and did not have much ingredients in there. Overall, great place to go super late at night or really early in the morning.

Google
Worst tteokbokki ever. Does not taste like anything. Also they did very bad job packing food for Uber Eats delivery because the tteoboki sauce just spilled everywhere and nothing was left after all. What a waste of money I should have just bought some frozen food from H mart

Google
Amazing place, good vibes, good food. They took us in late at night and had the BEST food in ktown with the best atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Dear white people eating here, The Seollangtang is PURPOSEFULLY UNSALTED. You are supposed to add your own level of salt as this dish is purposefully never salted. The salt actually brings out the deep richness in the broth and makes it taste absolutely incredible. In general, Korean cuisine has a LOT less guardrails to it. For example, putting salt on your food is not considered rude to the chef, slurping noodles is actually considered polite/a sign you are enjoying the meal (also a way to cool down food when its hot as you're eating it) and it's more focused on enjoying the meal rather than being super polite. If you have been here and thought the soup was bland, I encourage you to go back and put salt, absolutely game changing. Also a PRO TIP is to put the kimchi in the broth to add some extra kick/flavor.

Yelp
The meal I had at Gammeeok was so warming, comforting, and perfect for a cold winter day. My godfather who I dined with has been coming here since the 90's, so it came highly recommended. I'd never had Seollong tang before, but I can never go back to a life without it!! I really love how you add your own scallions and season it to taste. Just a pinch of salt changes the flavor completely, and brings out the true richness of the bone broth. It's surprisingly light and nutritious, while also being very filling! The beef floating in the soup was very soft and flavorful, and the noodles and rice absorbed all the other yummy flavors. I'd also never had pork belly steamed before, but again, life will never be the same! It still retained all of the delicious flavor of pork belly but had a soft and delicate texture. It was fantastic on some Napa cabbage with some raw garlic, radishes, and fermented soybean paste. Their kimchi is the best I have had anywhere. It's salty and sour without being too funky. Shortly after they brought it out I devoured most of it! The barley tea is also amazing; as soon as the meal was over I rushed over to H Mart and bought myself some. The inside was very nice looking and clean, and the waiters didn't seem to mind that we stayed for a few hours at the table to catch up. It's a really great place with fantastic Korean home cooking!

Yelp
A great spot for authentic and comforting Korean food! Me and my sister ordered the Seolleong tang and the Deonjang stew and split. Both are great and paired well together. The deonjang is very flavorful, and the seolleong tang is so comforting. I love that they give you a whole pot of green onions to add to your soup, and their kimchi is quite exceptional. Overall, I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
This place was somewhat close to the hotel, I couldn't find the congee/abalone place I used to visit before COVID. This was was decent, service was a bit chaotic but once I got my food I finished it and left. The broth really needed a lot of salt as it was more than bland. Not sure I would return.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
My favorite 설렁탕 (sullungtang) in the city! Always hits the spot. It's rich and comforting and I appreciate how many green onions they give you. I love eating it with their kimchi- really one of my comfort foods. Recently tried their 된장찌개 (doenjang jjigae) and it was also delicious- decently spicy and a great flavor with generous amount of seafood. They also have boricha as well, perfect for a cold nyc winter night.

Yelp
We came to Ktown to eat somewhere else but the wait was a bit long so we ended up coming here instead. We only had to wait ~10 minutes for our large group to be seated, so not terrible. Service was great, but food was pretty meh. The bossam was really fatty and didn't have much flavor. The Seolleong Tang was pretty disappointing and super bland. The galbi was pretty solid, no complaints there. The menu is pretty extensive so maybe I just didn't pick the right dishes. I will say the place is very spacious and there's lots of seating, so that's a perk especially if you don't feel like waiting long to be seated.

Yelp
After a long and tiring 5-hour flight, my mom and I were in search of something comforting to revive us, and we found exactly that at Gammeok, a soup chain hailing from Korea. Arriving around 11 PM, there was no wait which - a relief after traveling for so long. We were immediately treated to complimentary kimchi and kkaduggi (Korean radish kimchi), both of which were outstanding. I usually judge a restaurant by the quality of its banchan and Gammeok's offerings were a clear signal that we were in for a great meal. We started with the haemul pajeon (seafood pancake), which was okay. But, the true star was the sullungtang (beef bone soup). I've had the pleasure of enjoying many excellent sullungtangs over the years, but this one ranks among the best I've had in the States. The restaurant may seem unassuming, but don't underestimate their soups. The broth was impressively clean yet full of depth, and the broth's rich flavor perfectly balanced the brisket. While the brisket wasn't the most tender, I can excuse this given how delicious their soup is. For a 24/7 spot that serves food far beyond what you'd expect at that hour, Gammeok stands out as one of the best. Whether you're looking for breakfast or a late-night bite, they're an ideal choice at any time of day.

Yelp
Everytime I'm in Manhattan. The family and I go here for the seoullungtang 설렁탕, The kkakduki 깍두기 is out of this world.

Clara K.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for 20 years. It definitely isn't cozy as it used to be but then NYC isn't that elegant as it used to be. Seolleongtang is always on point and hits the spot for me.
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Cold noodle soup is so good. So refreshing! Perfect for summer. There's nothing mire refreshing than this. Slushie cold broth is so satisfying. The pancakes are very nice too made crispy. Service is very friendly n attentive. Live the whimsical chandelier.
google avatar

Yelp
Went here after a long night of drinking and walking through the cold, so the deluxe seolleong tang really hit the spot. It came out nice and hot with plenty of chunks of beef and tendon, and the broth had a clean beef bone flavor. It comes unsalted so make sure to salt and pepper to your taste, although fair warning that some of the salt might end up going to the bottom of the bowl and making the last bits of soup a bit too salty.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible service, delicious food with big portions, and cozy ambiance. The staff was very accommodating about dietary restrictions. Also good music playing :)
google avatar

Yelp
Food: 4 Pork was yummy and the soup's broth didn't have a "meat smell."(고기 냄새가 안 났어요.) Service: 4 Quick service. Ambiance: 3.5 Not exactly the best ambiance (we did go when it was a bit empty), but it isn't too loud and is a good spot for a quick meal.
google avatar

Hailey S.

Yelp
delicious food! love that they're open late and satisfied my soup cravings. it's on the second floor and there's ample amount of seating with loud music. the tofu soup with seafood was yummy, tasted a bit like jjamppong. soup was thick with a lot of flavor their soybean paste soup with beef was equally as delicious. had a good amount of beef in the soup. loved the meal!
google avatar

Ed K.

Yelp
Looking for some Korean comfort food. We ordered Sulleontang deluxe and Yukdaejang. Both were really great. Sulleontang is not seasoned and comes bland, so there is a bowl of green onions and kimchi that you chase with it. The yukdaejang, forgot a picture, was really tasty too. That one is seasoned and was loaded with meat. I loved the pork bone broth on mine and wanted to clear out my system from all the drinking from the night before, so I completely finished my broth. Next stop is Paris Baguette to get a quick coffee.
google avatar

Jane K.

Yelp
Not sure why this place has so many bad reviews. The service is consistent and the sullungtung always hits. I've never tried any of their other dishes but this is a traditional Korean soup staple. It's usually served with kimchi and a side of scallions. On a cold weather day, this is a must try! Don't forget to add salt to taste!

Yelp
We flew in on a redeye from LA and wanted something warm and comforting when we landed. The only place we could find near our hotel that was open early enough was Gammeeok, so we decided to give it a try. The place was perfect--it was clean, the service was super friendly, and the food was great. It was a wonderful start to our trip.

Yelp
What a gem of a place!! My mother was craving Seolleong Tang Soup (creamy beef bone broth soup) and this place had it. It's on the 2nd floor so you can easily miss the door to get in. She ordered Dogani Tang (creamy beef bone broth soup with knee cartilage) and I ordered Yukgarjang soup (spicy beef broth soup with shredded beef, glass noodles, shredded green onions and veggies. Our appetizer was haemul pajeon (savoury seafood pancake). This place is not your typical Korean restaurant with all the side dishes (banchan). The only side dish you will get is kimchee (spicy pickled Napa cabbage)..... but let me tell you.... It's one of THE BEST TASTING KIMCHEE I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!!! (Mom agreed). We asked for some more and they were happy to oblige. Gosh... I wish I lived closer! I'll be back!!!
google avatar

KC C.

Yelp
Remember this place when it was down the street and I would go here for late night soup. Like the ambiance of the new location. The ox bone soup here hasn't changed and the kalbi tang was solid. Kimchi is good here. Service is friendly, though a little slow since there was only one waiter.
google avatar

Joanna Z.

Yelp
My friend and I was looking for a place to eat late at night, luckily this place was still open. We got seafood jeon, bossam, and LA galbi. Everything was super yummy and the service was great! We were able to ask for refills for the banchans and they consistently came to give us more water! The ambience was great, we got to sit by the window.
google avatar

Joshua W.

Yelp
Was amazing. I got the jokbal which was delicious, but I just wished they had the lettuce to wrap it.

Albert F.

Yelp
This is a good Korean restaurants serving popular Beef soup (Seolleong Tang). Their complimentary kim Chi is also very good. They open 24/7. Checked and found it is not related to Gammeeok in Seoul.
google avatar

Sylvia B.

Yelp
Mmm. maybe 3.5 stars? Great place for late night food though and it's open 24/7. I came here on a Thursday night around 10PM and it was fairly empty. I ordered the Jokbal (they give a generous portion) and my friend ordered the ox bone soup with rice. Only thing is I wish they gave some lettuce with the jokbal because it was kind of plain eating it just alone. And the ox bone soup wasn't bad, it's like a milky broth. I've had it many times before. Good to eat on a cold day! I wish they gave at least a few side dishes! They only give you kimchi (which I don't really eat much of). FYI, they give you a small discount if you pay in cash.

Yelp
$18.99-Tofu soup (seafood) 5.5/10 there was more tofu than seafood, the flavor isn't strong $18.99-Mul Naeng Myun 4/10 didn't like how is sweet. There is only one half of an egg and 2 pieces of meat! Total: $41.35 (included tax)

Yelp
Gammeeok is open 24/7 so it was a great option to go to after coming back from a concert in NJ. They give a heaping serving of kimchi which was pretty good. I tried the yukgaejang. The soup had somewhat of a deep beef flavor but was not that flavorful. It was very hot (temperature) and spicy, so went well with rice. I didn't think the toppings were particularly plentiful or good. The meat was a bit dry. The whole dish was very hot so it was a bit hard to eat. We also got the naengmyeon. This dish was very refreshing and hit the spot. The soup was nice and icy, the noodles were good, and I enjoyed the meat, pear, and radish on top. This is one of the better cold noodles I've had in the US. If I had the choice (which we didn't), I would go to BCD over Gammeeok for late night eats, but this was also a solid option. The service was quick and I enjoyed the experience!
google avatar

Debbie D.

Yelp
Came in 11:30 PM - table for 9 and we were promptly seated. Service guys were so nice but they were clearly busy and slightly overwhelmed. The LA Kalbi was on point. My 5 year old ate the entire order by himself. I finished the entire samgye tang and my husband finished his cold noodles. We also had the seafood pancake. We had no left overs so that sums it up! It's on the pricier end for Korean food compared to what I'm used to in queens but it was all delicious.
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
My new favorite place in Ktown! I love their tofu soup and always get it when I'm here, however, I wouldn't recommend their tteokbokki. I think they give very little rice cakes but everything else is extremely good. Their bibimbaps are also just delicious.
google avatar

Steph W.

Yelp
Ambiance (5/5): This is located on the 2nd floor from the main street. All the popular spots had lines out the door and so we poked our heads in to see if this place had a spot. There was plenty of seating around 8pm. Service (5/5): I staff was quick to service us and the food came out at an appropriate time. I appreciated the water jugs which made their refilling a bit easier. La Galbi (5/5): Super tender pieces of short rib marinated in a sweet caramelized glaze. Bulgogi (3.5/5): I've had more tender and flavorful bulgogi. Beef Tofu Soup (1/5): Pretty tasteless despite its spicy kick. The meat pieces quickly become overcooked and the soup is piping hot!
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
Got UberEats this morning for galbitang (Korean short rib soup). It really hit the spot! Super deep soup with good amount of meat. Came with delicious radish and Napa cabbage kimchi as well. Make sure you ask for utensils since it doesn't come with any.
google avatar

Purba K.

Yelp
came here on a chilly day and the soups really warmed us up! they were not lacking in flavor and really hit the spot for us given we wanted something hearty
google avatar

Katelyn L.

Yelp
Not as good as I hoped! This place is open 24/7 and is such a fun addition to K-Town, but I found their soup to be watered down and bland. They don't offered the varieties of ban chan, but they do give each table a side of kimchi. The restaurant is upstairs and has a lot of open space and attentive waiters, but I don't think I'll be coming back for the food.
google avatar

Henry J.

Yelp
I think it's the best Korean traditional restaurant in NYC! They have a very nice kimchi and beef bone soup with great combination. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Min K.

Yelp
This is a review for their bibim naeng-myeon only. The recent reviews of this place were not so positive but thought it was worth a try. The place was clean and the servers were very attentive. We intentionally hedged the reviews by only ordering one dish to see restaurant's reaction and the quality of the food. I didn't feel any typical rudeness and inattentive behaviors people talked about. Bibim naeng-myeon was solid 4/5. Good broth & spicy sauce and topping portion was generous. The noodle was good but slight less chewy than what I would prefer, but it is my personal preference. Overall, it feels like this is what I expect from a typical Korean restaurant across the US and a place worth a second visit to try their broader menu items.
google avatar

Dalena H.

Yelp
Wasn't that hungry when I arrived but was craving a seafood pancake. It came out pretty quickly. I enjoyed it with a beer and they gave me some kimchi with it. The kimchi was pretty good but it was too acidic. I couldn't barely eat it by itself. I had to pair it with the pancake. The crunch of veggies were there so it wasn't overly fermented. It was spiced just right. The pancake was fairly crisped. I only noticed the shrimp. It took me almost halfway done to realized that it had some mussels in it. Not really worth the price paid. The service was good and the place is decent size. The table are a bit too close. I'm a small person and it was a bit hard getting in and out of the table without disrupting the table next to me.
google avatar

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
A 2nd floor establishment in the heart of Koreatown on 32nd st. It's very beautiful and clean inside. If you get a table next to the window you can watch the hustle and bustle outside on the street while you eat. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. None of the staff seem to be Korean and neither are the clientele which can tell you a lot. The prices are reasonable at 16.99 for a bowl of seolleongtang (a milky ox bone broth soup). They serve the seolleongtang with both noodles and rice already mixed in. This makes the rice expand and get too soggy. It would make more sense to serve the rice separately. The brisket tastes extremely old and is tough in places. I don't recommend eating it at all. It comes with a side of mixed kimchi (different types on the same plate), salt and pepper, and diced green onions. Service is sparse. Food comes out relatively quickly. There has to be better seolleongtang in the area though - this is something like the quality you'd get from a grocery store premade and old.
google avatar

Claire M.

Yelp
This place is open 24/7 and my friends and I came because the wait for BCD was too long at 1:30am on a Saturday. It was pretty busy, but we were seated right away. I ordered the Seolleongtang and the broth had a nice depth to it. Personally, I like to add a lot of salt to it, but it was strange that they already put rice in the soup. This place is definitely a good late night eats and I would come here again if I am looking for a not as crowded place open late at night.
google avatar

Gineu K.

Yelp
If you're feeling under the weather or have a major Hangover, this is the spot to get some soup! Service is good and very quiet to enjoy your meal. 24hr is a plus!
google avatar

Giovanna S.

Yelp
food was mid, service was pretty awful. on top of that they added a 20% tip automatically even though we were only a party of four. I don't know how that's legal and i would not have given that much tip.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
This place is 24 hrs and we went on a Sunday night. There were only two other tables dining in. The Kimchi was the only banchan served and was not to our liking. We ordered the seolleong tang ($16) and galbitang ($26) with rice on the side and seafood pancakes. Both soups were rather pricey but we were in Ktown so it seemed reasonable. The seolleong tang was on the blander side, after dumping in some salt the soup was okay. The galbitang had good flavor but was $10 more. The seafood pancakes were good! We came late at night (10/11 pm) so possible the food wasn't the best it could've been and the service is rather sparse but they are 24 hrs.
google avatar

Lise H.

Yelp
Gammeok is a 2nd floor eatery open super late specializing in seoleongtang. It was quite spacious on the Monday night we dropped by. I was a little disappointed because they didn't have the cold noodles on their menu, so I opted to try the seoleongtang instead. Seoleontang is a milky broth simmered for hours with oxtail and brisket. At this location, it is served with some brisket, noodles, and rice in the soup. It typically comes out tasting less strong on umami and salt as it is a mild palate cleanser. It is an acquired taste to enjoy seoleongtang - it was alright at this location. Their complimentary kimchi was pretty good, but for me personally, I wasn't the biggest fan of the seoleongtang. Service was decent and water was refilled frequently. Unfortunately I will say that that day I did get bitten by mosquitoes at the restaurant.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Good k-town place to warm up from the cold! The food is great, but the service is a bit rushed at times. Would recommend eating here, but perhaps come at an earlier or late time! The seolleong tang is heart, warm, and a great rendition of a Korean classic. The gammeok bibimbap is a great dish as well and well-recommended! The bindaetteok is always nice to eat, but came out a bit burnt? (Still would recommend). Lastly, the spicy pork bbq is personally not a favorite and lacked meat for the amount of vegetables! Tip liberally! They work hard! Cheers
google avatar

Mel K.

Yelp
Great service from the waiter. The food was delicious. Not enough side dishes which are known for Korean restaurants. They've only served kimchee. Nice and relaxing atmosphere. Be aware that they charge 10 percent for using your Credit card.
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
Wow! I haven't been here for awhile. Came for late lunch around 4pm with my friend on Sunday. Plenty of seating! Can I say the kimchee here is really good??? We had to ask for another plate. It compliments the seolleongtang. It hit the spot! I was full, but ate the whole thing. The only downfall was the door was open and whoever was smoking, it filled the entire restaurant. The last thing I need is a second hand smoking environment while eating some delicious food. It was a good thing it happened at the end of our meal.

Michelle T.

Yelp
Tasted good, had bad stomachache afterwards so it was not worth it even though they open 24/7.

Yelp
Cliffnotes: 2/5. I don't know. The food was just a miss for me, but the service was alright. Food: 2/5 strictly based on the fact that it was edible but it just wasn't good. The Mandu was very greasy and had little to no flavor to them. The was a new experience for me but it wasn't very flavorful either, even when I added the sauce they brought along with it. The server was so kind and told me to add more if I was able to tolerate spice. Even so, it just wasn't good y'all. I was shocked. And then I felt a little nauseous, but I have a soy intolerance so idk if there was tofu or soy in the dish. (*note: I didn't tell my server bc on the menu I don't remember seeing anything about soy or tofu in the dish.*) Service: 3.5/5: there were plenty of servers present and I was sat quickly. However, there were times I had to go up to a server different from the one who sat me and ask for a drink and such. But everyone had teamwork going and everything moved swiftly with checking out. Lol. To note: I also came at like around close to midnight on a weeknight. So maybe the food doesn't hit as good at that time. I'm not sure. But it doesn't encourage me to come back to eat again. There wasn't much of a selection of dishes on there menu at that time either. Thank you for serving me and for the meal, though.!!
google avatar

Lucy M.

Yelp
Surprised at the three star rating! This spot gets extra points just for being open 24/7, it's really difficult to have a quality meal past 2am and this place delivers. Beyond that, I loved everything I ordered. The seafood pancake was delicious and had the perfect oily/crispy texture. The squid with udon noodles comes with raw onions and scallions, excellent choice with a little spicy kick, although I do wish there were more noodles. My favorite order of the night was the beef brisket. It arrives sizzling, the beef super tender and juicy with just the right amount of melt in your mouth fat. Definitely get this!

Kate R.

Yelp
Great service, Great tasting kimchi! Best I have every tried, open till late which also made it a bonus!

Jennifer K.

Yelp
We were seated by the window which I was happy about because it's nice to see the view of people walking by. We ordered samgyetang and spicy octopus mixed rice. Both were good. The service could have been friendlier and the banchan was nothing except a dish of kimchi. Banchan really makes or breaks a place for me. The food is good so we'll probably be back, but I wish they'd step up their banchan game.

Yelp
No frills Korean spot that is open 24/7 in the heart of Ktown. Look for the sign to walk up to the 2nd floor. I typically came here for one of two things: Seolleong Tang - Seolleong Tang is essentially a milky bone soup that's made by boiling down ox leg bones for hours until the broth becomes rich and creamy white. You also get thin slices of brisket in the soup. You can add scallions and the salt/pepper mix to your liking. This comes paired with kimchi/kimchi radish and a bowl of hot rice. I love this simple meal during cold months or just need a bowl of soup for comfort. This feels just like mom made you soup. The deluxe version comes with more brisket. Naengmyun - Naengmyun is a cold noodle dish of thin, chewy noodles in a clear, refreshing broth that's typically made with beef broth and/or radish water kimchi broth. This is normally topped with cucumber and hard-boiled egg and served with vinegar and hot mustard paste on the side so you can change the spice to your liking. This is the best for those hot NYC summer days.
