"Tucked away in a narrow alley, Gartine may not look like much from the outside, but it’s actually something of an institution, serving traditional organic-egg-centric dishes for breakfast and high tea favorites at lunchtime. The produce all comes from the restaurant’s own garden and the desserts are all made by hand on site. It’s best to call ahead to reserve one of the ten tables."

Google
a divine, little brunch (and high tea) spot! we were grateful to get a table, but reservations are recommended. it’s a cozy, small setting which allows for attention to detail, fresh made to order food and warm service. it’s tucked away on the street and easy to miss, google maps had it a few doors down, so it confused us :). just look for #7. we had the eggs benedict (asked for the sauce on the side). it was perfect!

Make a reservation in advance – it’s a rare stroke of luck to get a table as a walk-in. And luck it truly is, because this place is incredibly cozy and welcoming. The food is delicious, with rich, bold flavors. Who would have thought a simple potato soup could be surprising? Yet it was absolutely fantastic. Huge thanks to the team for creating such a wonderful spot in the heart of Amsterdam!

Google
Very friendly service. Food is delicious and incredibly fresh. I had the Eggs Benedict with bacon and Ginger tea. You must come visit here!

The first thing you notice about this place is the smell — absolutely mouthwatering even before you sit down. The open kitchen gives it a lively, welcoming feel, and the staff are clearly proud of the food they serve. I ordered a vegetarian curry, and it was packed with fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices. It had just the right amount of heat, and the homemade naan was fluffy and warm. The portion was more than enough, and I even had leftovers for the next day. For the price, the quality is unbeatable. Great spot whether you’re vegetarian or not.

Google
It's a welcoming, small and cozy place. We ate scrambled eggs and a french toasy with large pot of tea. Scrambled eggs tasted very good, and the french toast was delicious as well. It was very soft, even though it has a sweet taste it is a very light food. Definitely recommending the french toast ❤️

Google
We came here for brunch today and it’s a solid 10/10. We had the most delicious scrambled eggs on home made sourdough with salad. The ingredients were fresh and perfect. The dressing on the farm fresh salad was stellar. And the coffee was great too. Staff were also fabulous. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Google
Incredibly good food, great drinks, and a fantastic atmosphere. It can be very hard to get a seat, so book a reservation in advance. The cakes are also incredibly, so do not skip on them. Check out the ice teas as well, especially the anis, as it’s delicious.

Google
Lovely place, food is great and healthy. But wouldn’t recommend the French toast/ doesn’t work in healthy. It feels like a family run business, the cook/mum is a bit on the more aggressive side, came out of the kitchen when they brought us something that we didn’t order and argued with us. Still highly recommend but make sure to reserve a table!

Yelp
May 2022 Our favorite restaurant in the entire world. So glad they survived the pandemic and grateful we were able to return for another visit. This restaurant is THE EPITOME of farm to table. Family owned, family grown ingredients, family run restaurant. The food is stunning, from the savory to the sweet to the drinks. Prices are very reasonable (likely due to ingredients sourced from their family garden). In absolute admiration of this charming restaurant. A trip to Amsterdam is not complete without dining at Gartine. Reservations are strongly recommended as the restaurant is quite tiny. They also have a couple of cookbooks published but they are only available in Dutch.

Yelp
Everything is natural. It's basically farm to table French cooking. The mint for the mint tea I ordered were literally plucked from a garden in the back somewhere (See pictures). The jam they made was unlike anything I've ever had before. The croissant was freshly baked. The Food even just for breakfast, is REALLY good! The staff/cooks seemed really kind too. Food is brought out fairly quickly but the speed of service overall will feel slow if you come from somewhere like New York. I try to keep that in mind and not judge too harshly. On our visit felt like we waited an eternity to get the attention of the staff and pay the bill. Herein lies the reason for a one star deduction: They are cash only. Fortunately, we had enough cash on hand, but I imagine you'd be paying several fees if you had to go to an ATM nearby. Other than that, the atmosphere was warm and cozy. The place is in a nice location and almost feels like a hole-in-the wall, but it doesn't feel too tight. It's worth the visit for the cooking, just don't forget your cash!
google avatar

Lily G.

Yelp
CASH ONLY but I didn't see it posted anywhere until I got there and they only had an old fashioned cash register. Breakfast was good and pretty quick, the Marmelade they made was very very delicious. The croissant was also perfectly cooked. Soft boiled eggs are always a treat too. Ambience is dim and crowded. Felt like we were really in a dried up and preserved garden! Service was not that fast other than the food arriving. Menu items were very expensive compared to what came out. Tourists: the atm this place will direct you to will charge a 15% surcharge and a multi euro fee!!

Yelp
so disappointing. I was so excited to eat here because of the good reviews but the waiter gave the table away to a white couple outside even though i asked first. it felt very racist although unfortunately not out of place for amsterdam.

Yelp
I knew up front that this place isn't extremely big on the inside, and quite hidden as well, in a small alley next to the shopping street. But it is very lovely inside and they even have a small terrace with two or three tables, where I enjoyed my cappuccino after I had the eggs Benedict inside. The staff didn't mind at all that I moved my belongings to another table after my meal. It also wasn't as busy as it can sometimes be, and the personal was so very lovely. I also love the blue porcelain cups and plates, they make for an aesthetically pleasing breakfast, brunch, or afternoon tea. This time I went alone to have breakfast and a book, but next time I will take my mother with me!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. Go back every chance I get whenever I go there. I'd suggest getting the breakfast. Went for lunch once and it was not nearly as spectacular as the breakfast - my opinion.

Yelp
These lovely folks are cooking their hearts out. It's the good you need - it's the food you are going to love and it's the vibe we need in our lives to feel nourished and cared for in a restaurant . Love the vibe love the food and love the people ! Thank you Gartine for squeezing me in -- ( make sure to make a reservation a week or so in advance! They are busy because they are GOOD

Yelp
Delightful and so amazingly well prepared and presented. I would eat here over and over again when in Amsterdam. Wonderful people greeting meeting and preparing the food. Eclectic quaint establishment. Make reservations because it is a very small place. Well worth the experience. Chef came to our table and answered my question about a cooking process! So fabulous!

Yelp
A must try in Amsterdam- this place made my whole trip! I went once for tea time and again for breakfast. The food is unbelievably fresh and very nice staff. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Very quaint vibe with superb customer service. I stumbled across this place while walking between the houses in the city. Not many seating so reserve in advance! Their coffee was great and scrambled eggs melted in my mouth. The employees are very pleasant and all 3 of them greeted me with a smile and a hallo. Definitely somewhere I would visit again.

Yelp
Welcoming us on our first morning of our Amsterdam weekend, was brunch at Gartine! Believe the hype & the advice to MAKE RESERVATIONS! They open right at 10am - not a minute beforehand & they were totally booked for the day. Luckily I'm a planner & we had rezzies but spent our morning hearing them turning away table after table w/ many people completely dumbfounded how they could be booked at 10am.....but they were & for good reason! Mr & I shared the Large Breakfast & it was heavenly! Croissant was flaky & buttery & they gave us 2 homemade jams to pair w/ it - a raspberry which was sweet & tart & also a pineapple-mint that the Mr said was refreshing Homemade Whole Grain Bread that was the perfect mopping vehicle for the Fried Eggs - standard eggy They were also nice enough to offer a substitution of sheep's milk cheese in place of the meat & it was creamy & buttery. We were expecting just to leave the meat off but were thrilled when the owner suggested they could do cheese instead French Toast that was custardy & sweet & when paired w/ their homemade applesauce it was over the top delish! Lattes were creamy & had an okay ratio of milk to coffee but we asked for an extra shot to help us overcome the jetlag.....and the extra shot was still in the "good-ratio" area of lattes. So feel free to order the standard or extra shot & you'll be covered either way When coming back to Amsterdam, we'd definitely make sure to plan ahead & get reservations for Gartine again - do yourself a favor & do the same!

Yelp
Adaptation of and excerpts from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. ACT I SCENE I. Gartine, Amsterdam Enters Nik T. (who was extremely lucky to snare a seat before others behind were turned away!) If Gartine be the food of love, cook on; Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken, and so die. That juice again! it had an apple draw: O, it came o'er my tongue like the sweet taste, That licks upon a bank of fresh herbs, Steeping and giving odour! Not enough; some more: 'Tis even sweeter now then it was before. (Warm herbed apple juice, €2.85) O soup of curly kale! how organic and fresh art thou, That, notwithstanding thy capacity Receiveth as the sea, nought enters there, Of what validity and pitch soe'er, But falls into abatement and low price, Even in a minute: so full of shapes is fancy That it alone is high fantastical................ (Soup from the garden, served with sourdough toast and butter, € 6.75) Why, so I do, the noblest that I have: O, when mine eyes did see Gartine first, Methought she purged the air of pestilence! That instant was I turn'd into a hart; And my desires, like fell and cruel hounds, E'er since pursue me. Enough; no more: especially now i'm back in singapore. if i were to ever open a cafe, Gartine will be it! small, cosy, intimate. friendly, cheery, build on love. love for pure fresh produce direct from their own private garden! cooked simply and lovingly. i also had their Rillettes of rabbit, plum chutney, sourdough toast and salad, € 8.95. an exquisite taste on warm crunchy toast. finally, to finish off, a sweet warm almond milk, €2.85, purely because i could not eat cake no more. but in case you can, you must!:)

Yelp
This delicious little gem was such a memorable experience! I recommend it to anyone looking for a great breakfast/ lunch in Amsterdam. My husband and I went for breakfast on a rainy May morning, everything about our experience was enjoyable from the time we stepped in the door. The atmosphere is cozy, bench seating lines one wall and there are about two or three small tables and one upstairs that overlooks the restaurant. The kitchen is tiny, but this makes no difference. The food here is incredibly fresh and the use of quality ingredients was evident in everything we ate. Go here, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
This place is gorgeous and the food is also amazing. The large breakfast isn't on the menu but make sure to ask for it. It includes: juice, coffee/tea, assorted breads, eggs, ham, cheese and a variety of different homemade jams. My boyfriend and I also dieeeddd when we had the scrambled eggs on toast. It was heavenly. The service was great and the waiters were extremely friendly. The decor was also on point. Definitely recommend! Make reservations if you can!

Yelp
Walked in and luckily one of the reservations didn't show up so we were seated immediately. Restaurant is quite small and fits only about 25 max. My friend and I split the large breakfast and dutch pancake. The large breakfast come with assorted pastries like toast, croissant, french toast, also comes with a coffee/tea AND small freshly squeezed OJ, ham, cheese and one egg. The OJ was very pulpy and tasted freshly squeezed. The homemade raspberry jam was super tasty, an absolute must try. I loved the variety and everything was good. The dutch pancake with raspberry and pistachio was very fluffy/airy and not overly filling like American pancakes. Similar raspberry spread as the raspberry jam that came with the large breakfast and crumbled pistachios added for some nice texture. Service here was pretty quick as the restaurant is small.

Yelp
Hands down the best meal (eggs Benedict) I've had in Europe so far. Everything was fantastic, highly recommended!!
google avatar

Yelp
TLDR: Beautiful decor, delicious food, fair price. The food and atmosphere here is excellent. Went there this morning for breakfast. We called ahead to make a reservation, and they accommodated us no problem. The service was perfect and most importantly, the food was sublime. Definitely worth a visit, especially considering how reasonably priced it was. I would recommend the Eggs Benedict with Gouda cheese.
google avatar

Yelp
The most interesting restaurant on this trip. The ambiance is to die for to start with, especially for the ladies. What's special is not the menu itself as it has the usual suspects, but where it stands out is the superb execution and creativity thereof.

Yelp
I came here because Alice Waters posted on Instagram about this lovely slow food restaurant. So happy that we made a lunch reservation! We had a hard time choosing from the amazing menu with all locally and fairly sourced ingredients which are then so amazingly prepared. Alice had plain pears for dessert - we had to choose from their case. The coconut yogurt pie was fabulous. Service also very nice. A must when in Amsterdam!

Yelp
Be careful they offer morning menu including pancakes only until 12:00!! I had a plan to have lunch and pancakes there during the stay in Ams. But arrived at 12:30 so no pancakes menu anymore... much disappointed with that. BUT the spinach soap I ended up ordering was really amazing!!! It was a completely new taste for me. never drunk anything like that soup. I had no idea spinach soup with not a creamy taste but a oily garlic taste. It looked a little oily but was bursting with flavor. Garlic, butter maybe a various kind of herb in it. The bread which came with it was right toasted. The butter was full of herb. tasted like a coriander a little bit. I highly recommend their soup menu ; )

Yelp
This was the best eating experience I've had in a long while. I ordered the Taleggio cheese dish with herbs and potatoes and inhaled it in about 5 minutes. My friend got the salad, which was also incredibly tasty. We ordered a pot of jasmine tea and had the chai cheesecake and chocolate cake with rosemary for dessert. The desserts were unique and delicious. The atmosphere here combined with the absolutely amazing food makes me want to return here again! I booked a reservation pretty far in advance because I was planning a trip and had time to do it, but make sure you make a reservation regardless because their 10 tables are full all day. I watched the hostesses turn away about 10 groups while we were eating because the restaurant was full. Regardless, I would love to return here next time I'm in Amsterdam.ya

Yelp
This must be one of the most romantic breakfast places I have experienced in a long time. The place is very small and intimate with only 7 tables. I had Eggs Benedict, a croissant with butter, homemade jam from their fruit garden and a coffee. My boyfriend had the large breakfast that includes: Croissant with butter, sourdough toast, French toast, homemade jam, fried egg and a warm pear drink with herbs. It may not have been the healthiest breakfast, but it was worth each calorie. The atmosphere and service was perfect, and everything is homemade! Reservation is necessary, and prices are very reasonable (10-20 EUR).
google avatar

Yelp
Omg! One of the most amazing breakfasts i've had in my entire life Their scrambled eggs were divine and so was their french toast! Their staff is really friendly and helpful and their menu has the most mouthwatering options, if in the mood to pamper your senses this is definitely the place m. Will definitely be coming here again Also do remember to call in for a reservation, they tend to get busy!

Yelp
We found this cozy place on a rainy, cold afternoon & it was such an amazing find! We first walked in because of the garden & homey decor. I ordered the vegetable soup which sounds very underrated for how delicious & comforting it was. It was creamy but not heavy. There wasn't a lot of cut vegetables in it, yet there was so much flavor from the veggies puréed in it. {not to mention that Gartine has their own garden for farm to table freshness & a cookbook featuring many wonderful recipes!} The homemade bread was another fabulous touch for a more filling meal. We couldn't leave without trying their decadent lemon meringue pie- & it was probably the best lemon meringue I've had!
google avatar

Isobel W.

Yelp
This is my favourite restaurant in the world. Super tiny and cosy and lovely and the food is all incredibly fresh and interesting and sourced from their farm outside the city. Staff all very happy to tell you about everything on the menu, the ingredients, the owners. And best of all the food is delicious! My only regret is that I couldn't get in again to have the afternoon tea as well!

Yelp
Easily the best meals we had while visiting Amsterdam, and we only visited for breakfast! I arrived in Amsterdam on a Saturday morning and since I wasn't able to check into my room just yet, I headed straight to Gartine. I was the first one there when they opened, which was good because it's a very small space and they only have one table that's available for walk-ins. I sat at one of the two small tables upstairs which let me take in the beautiful little details of the restaurant and enjoy the buzz of the Saturday morning conversations below. On my first visit I was solo and went all out with the Large Breakfast. Coffee and orange juice followed by a warm croissant with butter, sourdough toast, French toast, homemade jams, slices of brie and prosciutto, and a fried egg. I wasn't messing around! Everything was so fresh and even though they were somewhat basic breakfast items, they were some of the best I've ever had. The orange juice....oh the orange juice. I will have dreams about Gartine's fresh, pulpy, delicious orange juice! When I returned with my fiance the next day (with a reservation) I ordered the delicious eggs scrambled with fresh chives and served atop a slice of their sourdough bread. I didn't really know that I could be so crazy over something as simple as scrambled eggs! Simple and perfect. As if the food wasn't good enough, the owners (who are also the hosts, cooks, and servers) are two of the sweetest people we met in Amsterdam. They've done something so special with Gartine and you can really tell that they're proud of it-as they should be! We would've loved to stop back for dinner but they were booked while we were in town. If we're ever back in Amsterdam I can guarantee that Gartine will be our first stop!

Yelp
When I think back to the time I spent in Amsterdam, I can't help but fondly relive my wonderful brunch at Gartine. And of course, I thank my lucky stars I even stumbled upon this hidden gem in the first place! Tucked away on a side street, if you don't look close enough, it's easy to mistakenly walk right past it. Ah, and what a shame it would've been had I never gotten the chance to experience Gartine! Yes, it was actually that good. Gartine was without a doubt one of my favorite stops during my travels in Amsterdam. This tiny cafe serves a delicious breakfast and lunch spread in the most relaxing of atmospheres. Everything I ate at Gartine was absolutely divine. All of the pastries and jams were homemade, so I wouldn't have expected any less. The frech toast was great and I loved the brioche! The star of the show was definitely the jams and chutneys, which were the perfect toppings to all of the breads we had. And the presentation of what we ordered was beautiful! Oh, you can definitely tell the people behind Gartine put so much care and thought into what they're doing. And don't even get me started on the ambiance, because I could go on and on for hours about how beautiful and well designed the space was... The plates! The cups! Cutlery! The table settings! Flowers everywhere! Ah, I'm getting wishful... My only regret was not going another day to order from their daytime menu. I will have to make Gartine my first stop next time I'm in Amsterdam. And you should too.

Yelp
I was walking around for most of the morning and found myself in the Dam Square area. It was nearing lunch time so I looked up cute cafes nearby and Gartine popped up and had good reviews so I decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did. Usually it gets very busy but since it was just me I was seated right away. I got the special which changes daily, it was goat sausage on pita with some greens. It definitely hit the spot. The atmosphere and vibe is cute and cozy. And the servers and owners were really nice. 10/10

Yelp
I was so excited to go to Gartine, as I had heard about it 2 years ago and was unable to go the past 2 times we've been in Amsterdam. This time was our honeymoon trip and I thought it would be nice to have a romantic little breakfast. We were enthusiastically welcomed by the lovely owners of the place. Coffee came out immediately and our little breakfasts weren't far behind. The croissant was the best I've had in Amsterdam. The homemade jams served with the toast were sublime -- peach with basil, and blackberry. The food was so good I had to get an order of the chocolate brioche with lemon curd as well. I am so gluttonous when it comes to pastries that I scarfed down mine and most of my husband's brioche and ate all of the lemon curd that came with them. This quite simply was the best lemon curd I've had. I could have eaten the whole pot, and told one of the owners so, which made her laugh. The place is lovely, with adorable pink and white china and a large photo of a (I think) Fragonard painting on the wall. The bathroom was up a flight of steps, so be warned if you have any issues negotiating steep steps. I loved the experience so much, but my husband did grumble a bit about the price. It was a little bit expensive for basically toast and pastries, but he was happy that I was happy. When I go back, I'm getting the large breakfast for sure.

Yelp
Definitely a must stop on a trip to Amsterdam! We were able to make a reservation after walking in on another day. They are usually booked up pretty far in advance on the weekends. They have a phone number to call for reservations, but if you don't have a local number, it may be difficult to reserve as a tourist. Luckily for us there was a cancellation and we got in on a Sunday morning. They have limited seating, but the ambiance was very quaint and cute. We ordered cappuccinos and some of the other breakfast staples. The cappuccinos came in different types of porcelain cups. The only down side to that was my husbands cup was considerably larger than mine. They also sell their home made fruit preserves in the restaurant. We purchased a couple of bottles (there were two flavors, rhubarb & strawberry, and pineapple mint). Loved both flavors and they went very well with croissants and toast.

Yelp
This had to be my favorite lunch since I moved to Europe almost 5 years ago, and top favorites of all time. I stumbled upon this cafe by chance last year on a solo trip to Amsterdam during the late lunch hours and was lucky to be seated right away - not knowing that this is a local favorite. The food was sublime! I didn't know when ordering that my salad would have beetroots in it (one of my least favorite vegetables), when I reluctantly gave it a try - my mind was blown! It's a cozy little place that's very "farm to table" - they cook seasonable vegetables from their own garden. Simple, no gimmicky, elegant cooking with the best of ingredients! I recall seeing a framed article on the wall from a local newspaper about the wife & husband team so it seems well loved by the locals. Some folks around me had the afternoon tea menu with great looking tea sandwiches and cakes, so I will make sure to try that too next time.

Yelp
Gartine is the perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or brunch!!! I love the fact they produce their own ingredients in their small garden- it is just so fresh and oh so delicious! I ordered bread with 'ossenworst' with really yummy sweat sauce! The cuppuccino was served in a lovely traditional cup. And certainly you should try the fresh orangs juice! After these great food, we finished our lunch with awesome pie! We ordered the chocolate cheesecake and cake with lavendel and pear! Especially the cake with pear I definately recommend you to try it. Actually I wanted to give Gartine 5 stars, but because the fact I couldn't order the big breakfast anymore due the fact I was only 10 minutes to late :( but that is a good reason to come back for it, right?!

Yelp
I sat quietly for about five minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge me after I was given the choice of a table. I made eye contact with all four employees but they were like all Dutch servers; in another world. I finally waved my hand and asked a server for a menu. She said, "Oh, sorry. I never saw you there." Of course, that's not very flattering. The food was edible but the brioche was more like an undercooked and overly sweet and soggy bread. A proper brioche should be light and airy with notable air bubbles.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience this place was! As a breakfast/brunch person, I have been to my fair share of restaurants, but Gartine is definitely a place I would visit again! Not having made a reservation, we had to wait 15 minutes, but were extremely lucky to be seated even at all. A few people came in after us and the waiter told them that it would be over an hour wait, so be sure to call in and make a reservation to secure a table! We ordered the "large breakfast" that included a croissant with butter, sourdough toast, French toast, homemade jams, assortment of cold cuts, fried egg, and an option of coffee, tea, or OJ. We also ordered the yogurt and marscapone cream with muesli, coconut, cranberry, and vanilla honey. For drinks, we got the homemade iced tea with fresh vanilla and a cappuccino. The food was delicious to say the least. The french toast was moist and not overly sweet, perfection! The jams were heavenly; I believe it was rhubarb and strawberry, but I could be wrong. The yogurt and marscapone cream was light and sweet, a great combination with the large breakfast. The iced tea was mildly sweet with a hint of vanilla. We asked our waiter what drink he recommended and we were pleased with what we got! The space was very small, but the design was very stylish. The space complemented well with the food and the plates. Highly recommend this place if you visit Amsterdam!

Yelp
The best breakfast I had during my stay in Amsterdam :) Ambiance: A very small place located in pretty busy, perhaps touristy area. Friendly stuff, cute tableware :) Food: Simple yet delicious. I ordered a croissant, salad, and soft boiled egg breakfast, which wasn't exactly on the menu but they were very accommodating. Everything was spot on - including dressing, butter and jam. Why butter tastes so much better in this part of the world? Price: I had the breakfast above, latte, and OJ and I think the total came out around 17 Euros (less than 20 for sure). Overall: I also liked how European this place was. Not sure European is the right word, but some of the breakfast/brunch places I went to was very American like (literally something you can eat in LA) and that was a bit disappointing as a tourist. This place is different!

Yelp
Yeah, this place is amazing, and easily one of the highlights of our visit to Amsterdam. It's really easy to miss, tucked in an alley with no prominent signs - we even walked by it once before doubling-back to it. The interior is pretty tight but not any more so than comparable places in SF or elsewhere. I ordered the French toast which came with applesauce. Hard to explain how perfect it was, but the bread was toasted just right and tasted amazing, the applesauce was sweet but not overly-so, and the combination of the two was just too damned good. Also ordered some of the best iced tea I've had in a long time to go with it. My wife got yogurt with cranberries, grapes, honey, I think some oats were in there too - she basically said it was the best breakfast she'd had in a long time. I tasted some of it and couldn't argue with that. Great food, great service, great place.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are huge brunch fans, so we can't come to Amsterdam without experiencing their brunch culture. After doing some research, we found Gartine as one of the fan favs of Amsterdam. We made a reservation via phone a week before we are visiting, and let's just say, they did not disappoint. I got the Eggs Benedict while my boyfriend got the croissant with cheese, and Dutch pancake. If you want to try something special, definitely try their Dutch pancake. They're think (kinda like crepe) and aren't as heavy as American pancakes. It is probably one of our favorite meals in Amsterdam. Do note that this is kind of a "hole in the wall" place, you'll not be disappointed!

Yelp
Worth the hype. I had tried to eat here before, but I didn't have a reservation and they were completely full. There are only a few tables, so either get a reservation or come at off-peak hours. After finally having eaten there, it was totally worth it. The breakfast is delicious and filling, served in a warm and friendly atmosphere. I had a croissant, homemade jams,* french toast,* eggs,*, bacon, and tea/coffee. (*As other patrons have mentioned, these were the outstanding breakfast items.)

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic. We did the full high tea for lunch and we were very pleased. Everything is homemade and was delicious. The carrot red pepper with coconut milk soup with a drizzle of truffle oil was the best soup I have ever eaten! The tea finished with several homemade 's. We each had a favorite but they were all delicious. This is a must do spot when visiting Amsterdam.

Yelp
I finally got a chance to try out Gartine, a place that has terrific reviews and is generally regarded as one of the best spots for breakfast/brunch in the city. It wasn't planned, and we had made no reservation, but since we were walking around rather early and it was 10 minutes before they opened, we figured it might just be our day. Luckily, we were the 3rd in line without a reservation and the friendly hosts offered us a table but on the condition that we didn't take more than 30 minutes to eat and leave. We took the offer. For brunch, we had coffees, an order of French toast, and the scrambled egg on sourdough. Coffee was great. The French toast seemed rather tiny and dull to me. It seemed hastily put together and I didn't enjoy it much, if at all. The eggs were delicious, slightly garnished, and the bread was nice and crisp. They had some delicious looking cakes in the refrigerator behind us, but we decided not to stuff ourselves any more. We were done in 18 minutes, including paying the bill and practicing some Dutch! How's that for efficiency?! The location is perfect, and the hosts amazing, who clearly love what they do. As a vegetarian (who eats eggs), I feel that there was not much on offer. Worth another try.

Yelp
Amazing spot for a delicious and charming meal! Small place so be sure to call for reservation. Great food and friendly service!

Yelp
This was the best breakfast I had in Amsterdam. I had the big breakfast which came with some bread, french toast, croissant, coffee, fresh orange juice, ham & cheese and marmalade. Best thing is that everything is homemade! So yummy. And that for only 12,95 € !! My boyfriend was a bit annoyed because they don't have wifi and also don't accept visa.. So for him I don't think he was too happy with the place because of that.. But to me it didn't really matter as long as the food makes me happy :)

Yelp
A lovely cozy place. Slightly hidden but well known and always busy. If you are going midweek then no reservations needed but weekends probably not possible to get a table if you haven't reserved. They have their own homemade jams. A good selection of eggs and high tea for brunch.

Yelp
Cute little spot for breakfast/brunch. I kept reading reviews mentioning reservations so I expected a it to be really busy and popular but it's actually because the place is so tiny. I really enjoyed my salmon pancake and the iced tea was quite interesting. Beware the cash only!

Yelp
I was walking around on a freezing day looking for a good soup to warm me up and discovered this nice little spot. This place definitely separates its self from the usual grade in Amsterdam. I went with the morning harvest Garden Soup and a Winter-Bread Pastrami Sandwich. Now I've had monster pastrami sandwiches in NYC; but this was on a whole other level. I later came back the next day with my friend for Afternoon Tea which surpassed my London breaks. Veggie Quiche, sandwich, Smoked-Salmon cream filled choux pastry, cakes.... and a nice pot of Tea. Everything was perfect. BTW, if your coming for dinner they don't seem to serve wine. Mind you I would suggest reservations as this small place and gets very crowded. It would be nice if the tables where spaced further apart.

Yelp
My vocabulary isn't extensive enough to adequately convey how wonderful my meals were at Gartine. I had the opportunity to dine at several restaurants while we visited Amsterdam, and none of them came close to the quality of food and service that we experienced at Gartine. I had seen Gartine listed in a travel booklet I consulted before embarking on our trip, and so it was at the top of my list of places to check out while we were in town. We stopped in for lunch and coffee, and I ordered the cream of goat cheese with roasted pumpkin, smoked bacon and sourdough toast -- it was outstanding. The pumpkin had an exquisite taste and was perfectly roasted. Sean C. had their toasted muesli bread with softly stewed onions, white beans, old Beemster cheese and sage butter -- need I say more? He was in heaven. Dutch cheese in general is fantastic, but a combination like that? He loved the combination of cheese and sage butter. The next time we went to Gartine was for high tea, and it blew us both away. The savory treats were tiny and delicate but were each bursting with flavor. The best part, however, was the fact that we were able to share, like, six slices of different desserts. EVERYTHING was perfect. Like I said, I don't think I have the right words to describe how much in love I was with everything. It was the beauty and aesthetics of an Anthropologie, but with delicious food. Perfect.

Yelp
Possibly the best breakfast I ever had. The Eggs Benedict Royal with soft boiled eggs, smoked salmon, sauce Hollandaise, and brioche. Holy crap! Amazing! They take reservations, so try to get one in advance. Otherwise you'll have to show up when they open at 10am which is what we did.

Yelp
The cutest café tucked away in Amsterdam. Had the friendliest staff and served the best food! Would recommend the Eggs Benedict and the Yogurt Bowls.
