Tucked away in the serene Swiss hills, this rustic alpine inn blends cozy rooms with an exquisite dining experience, featuring locally sourced, gourmet cuisine.
"Dietmar Sawyere, whom many will know from Andermatt's The Japanese by The Chedi at Gütsch and The Japanese Restaurant, has taken over the reins at this 500-year-old inn. In the charming wood-panelled Stübli, Alpine produce takes centre stage and is put to work with original ideas and a pleasing blend of modern, classical and traditional approaches. A prime example of this is the Arctic char served with garden peas, smoked ham, pine needles and beurre blanc. Diners are invited to choose from an array of options to put together their own menu of four to six courses. To accompany your meal, there is a decent wine list featuring Swiss and French labels. Maître d' Nicole Sawyere heads up a well-coordinated and professional front-of-house team. In summer, make a beeline for the shaded terrace – it's a perfect spot for an aperitif! For overnight stays, this inn – considered to be the oldest in the Engelberg Valley – has attractive modern guestrooms." - Michelin Inspector
"Dietmar and Nicole Sawyere call this "micro-restaurant experience" what awaits you in the evening at the "Bijou" in the neat inn dating from 1570. The atmosphere here is pleasantly personal and intimate, the service attentive and cordial. An exciting culinary combination of Swiss and Asian cuisine is offered in the form of a surprise menu with six courses. The menu is called the "Hintersassen Menu" - a reference to the settlers of Dallenwil who moved here from further afield and integrated new ideas. As an alternative restaurant, the house also runs the regionally oriented "Stübli"." - Michelin Inspector
