"Dietmar Sawyere, whom many will know from Andermatt's The Japanese by The Chedi at Gütsch and The Japanese Restaurant, has taken over the reins at this 500-year-old inn. In the charming wood-panelled Stübli, Alpine produce takes centre stage and is put to work with original ideas and a pleasing blend of modern, classical and traditional approaches. A prime example of this is the Arctic char served with garden peas, smoked ham, pine needles and beurre blanc. Diners are invited to choose from an array of options to put together their own menu of four to six courses. To accompany your meal, there is a decent wine list featuring Swiss and French labels. Maître d' Nicole Sawyere heads up a well-coordinated and professional front-of-house team. In summer, make a beeline for the shaded terrace – it's a perfect spot for an aperitif! For overnight stays, this inn – considered to be the oldest in the Engelberg Valley – has attractive modern guestrooms." - Michelin Inspector

"Dietmar and Nicole Sawyere call this "micro-restaurant experience" what awaits you in the evening at the "Bijou" in the neat inn dating from 1570. The atmosphere here is pleasantly personal and intimate, the service attentive and cordial. An exciting culinary combination of Swiss and Asian cuisine is offered in the form of a surprise menu with six courses. The menu is called the "Hintersassen Menu" - a reference to the settlers of Dallenwil who moved here from further afield and integrated new ideas. As an alternative restaurant, the house also runs the regionally oriented "Stübli"." - Michelin Inspector

Delicious , pedantic and creative food!! Off the bitten path but well deserve the detour !! A Swiss chef and his Australian wife erected a culinary establishment that set the standard of creative , high quality and very tasty food accompany with small details of hospitality that makes you want to come back - and that is what we did .

Our favourite new place in Lucerne! We have been to Lucerne a few times and don’t know how we missed this one gem. They have received michelin star multiple years and the chef had also got his previous restaurant, at the Chedi Andermatt, a star as well. No wonder everything was on point. This place right away became our new favourite place. From the food to, drinks to atmosphere, everything was perfect. What we love the most is the fact that the dad is the chef, the mom is the super host, the daughter the sous chef I think and the son is the mixologist. Its atmosphere is so friendly almost like a family run place, yet the service and the dishes were professionally done deserving of the star.

Unbelievable experience! My husband and I have visited a couple of months ago, it was amazing! The food is spectacular, the service is very smooth and personalized! The interior design looks just so elegant! Impressive! I had an extraordinary alcohol-free wine tasting menu! It was just unforgettable! We will return here 100%! I recommend to visit 11/10!!! Thank you very much ❤️

Gasthaus Zum Kreuz was the highlight of our dining journey through Europe. On this particular occasion, we chose this restaurant for a 50th birthday celebration and it was one of the best choices we have ever made. It is a beautiful restaurant that exuded a comforting, old school charm of Europe with a beautiful interior tucked in the lovely hills of Switzerland, both calm and serene. A short 20 - 30 minute train ride from the heart of Lucerne. As patrons approach the historic restored building, they will feel like they are walking into a fairy tale where the restaurant is housed in what seems to be a quaint little house from a story book. Upon entering, the restaurant is meticulously set up to offer tradition coupled with elegance. Everything from the wood stained ceilings, to wooden chairs and benches, white table cloth, antler chandeliers and natural lighting exudes a welcoming, high end experience. The service is exceptional from the warm greeting at the door to the detailed explanation of every delicious cuisine that was served. Cared for by two servers who was always very friendly and cordial. They were so happy at their job and so patient with two out of towners. We were fortunate enough to get a visit from Chef Dietmar Sawyere and his lovely wife Nicole who were the nicest and most down to earth people we have ever met. It was a true honor for us and made our visit even more memorable. Impeccable service, beautiful environment, etc. but what of the food? We’ve only been to a handful of Michelin Star restaurants and are very picky with our meals but I am happy to report that Gasthaus Zum Kreuz has some of the best food we have ever experienced. They offer a 5 course, 6 course or 7 course meal. Since it was our first visit, we started off slow with the 5 course meal which proved to be more than enough food as their portions are very generous. There have been several occasions where we have attended fine dining establishments only to supplement our meal later in the evening with something a bit more feeling. However, this was NOT the case at Gasthaus Zum Kreuz, as we left feeling quite full and very content! One of the many highlights to this restaurant is that all their products are locally sourced. Every meat, vegetable, cheese, chocolates and all ingredients to their sauces are all grown or produced in the many Cantons of Switzerland and the servers seem to know where each item comes from. In summary, Gasthaus Zum Kreuz is one of the best restaurants in the world in all aspects, from environment, service but most importantly, food! It was a once in a lifetime experience that we will strive to revisit. Thank you to Chef Dietmar, Thank you Nicole and thank you to the entire staff! BRAVO!!!

Outstanding dinner experience, definitely one of our best ever. The 6 course menu is a real delight, takes your taste buds for a ride (even the sweets were out of this world). True locally sourced products, outstanding execution, great wines and warm service & atmosphere. Thanks to the whole team. We will be back

The owners changed this year, so I gave it a try! The evening was very nice, summery, the terrace was inviting. Unfortunately, you can't eat outside, which is a shame, especially since it was extremely hot in the restaurant. But also very nicely decorated inside! There are surprise menus, a somewhat tedious circumstance always having to call what is currently on the menu. The menu was very expensive for the goods that were offered! Since I only eat in Michelin star restaurants, I was very surprised! There's nothing wrong with working towards a star, but there's still a long way to go, that's for sure.

Came back to have dinner at the Bijou. The dinner concept is completely reimagined, with memorable signature dishes like the amazing not-cooked-and-yet-not-quite-raw scallops with caviar, the black cod marinated in miso, an amazing pigeon-in-clay breast that's incredibly tender and juicy and tastes better than any pigeon I've ever had. The amuse bouche lobster would be worthy of its own course on the menu. The non-alcoholic drink pairings are also different and more creative. Really enjoyed them. I've you've been before, it's time to come back and try something completely different!

I had a 7 course meal there. I don't know to many fancy words to describe how delicious it was, so there we go; "F*ck yeah" Every single course was succulent and came with a selected glass of wine. The staff was very attentive without being to present. Not sure if it can get much better then this: Sitting between beautiful mountains enjoying delicious food brought to you be awesome people. We also staid for the night at the hotel. Great overall experience.
