The Best Restaurants On First Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"George’s is an Eastern-European grocery store where you can buy things like Hungarian paprika and Lithuanian cookies called “Funny Mushrooms.” It’s also a deli that makes some delicious sandwiches. We’re big fans of the reuben as well as the grilled sausage sandwich that’s made with Polish links that are smoked in-house. Just be equipped with an entire Party City aisle worth of napkins and a Tide To-Go pen because you will inevitably come into contact with some mustard and kraut." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Last-Minute Passover Meals for Takeout and Delivery in Seattle - Eater Seattle

"Capitol Hill’s popular Jewish deli is still open for takeout orders, and has some a la carte items available for Passover pickup, including whole roasted rotisserie chicken, slow-roasted brisket with gravy, matzo ball soup, chopped liver, gefilte fish loaf, and charoset by the pound. Dingfelder’s notes that these are all kosher for Passover foods, but the kitchen is not kosher certified." - Gabe Guarente

Google
I just had the best turkey and bacon sandwich on sourdough, today! At first glance, it looked big and messy, but I was pleasantly surprised—it was light, bursting with flavor, and absolutely delicious. It's probably the best sandwich I've had in the 20+ years I've been visiting this place. I even had to send a couple of friends this pic. Lol! The combination of fresh ingredients and the perfect balance of flavors made it an unforgettable meal. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area! Thanks Tiffani!

Google
Amazing sandwich, the ingredients tasted so fresh! The mushroom soup was great too! All for less that 20$!

Google
George's is absolutely perfect! The food is delectable. The service is fantastic. Tiffani is so incredibly kind! You really can't miss an opportunity to go!

Food was amazing! We got a reuben and a cup of the pickle soup !! Service was a cherry on top! Definitely recommend

Google
Y'all .. get over here and get one of these Rubens . I've had many Ruben sandwiches in my life and this one is the best! Everything they have is amazing, fresh, hot and delicious. My favorite sandwich is the hot pastrami on rye, with a side of the Polish potato salad. It's such a cool peppery compliment to cut the fatty rich pastrami. Don't get me started on the perogies!

Google
I have been on the hunt for a good local deli sandwich shop for a while, and wow, this place is fantastic! The sandwiches are reasonably priced and were some of the best I’ve ever had! Definitely recommend to anyone in the area who is craving a cold deli sandwich. I will be back!

Google
I come here to get my wife perogies and any time I want to get some kelibasa. I tried there reuben for the first time, and it was amazing. The sour dough was toasted just right and there was choice of saurkrauet balanced the beef just right. I downed that sandwich in 4 minutes. They definitely get busy around lunch time I waited about 18 minutes for my lunch but I was worth the wait.

Google
Normally, I post pictures of the food, but here it smelled so good that I forgot to take a picture before digging in. The pierogi was excellent and had a great buttery texture, and the rose glaze donut was flaky and PACKED with jam. On top of that, I got a few free samples of sausage and cheese. Not only is the food great, but you can tell that the employees are happy and passionate about their jobs. Absolutely a great place to support, and a great place to eat!

Yelp
This place is so amazing! Alone because Tiffany is so cute that it makes waiting for food so pleasant that you feel at home even though you are standing middle in the store lol We ordered pierogi with cheese and potatoes which in my opinion was even better than my mom's ups and pastrami sandwich soooooo delicious! I also did some shopping for home because we don't have a store in central California :( The first store is 4 hours away from us in LA. In general this little store had everything you need and we recommend it to everyone to come here

Yelp
Small little deli that you would miss if he's didn't look twice. I've heard many things about the sandwiches here and people rave about them. Finally got to try a chicken Panini sandwich and it was way larger than I expected. Every bit of it was cooked really well and flavorful. I also tried the potato and cheese pierogies, which honestly are the star of the show and I wish I didn't have to share my order with someone else! They're super quick to get your order ready and really good service. They also have International snacks and chocolates in store, which is neat. I'm gonna return the Rueben, which I hear is their best sandwich

Yelp
Awesome deli and an epic find in Seattle. Got two sandwiches that were fresh and tasted great. Definitely coming back when I am back in Seattle.

Yelp
Not amazing, but not bad. All food is to-go and they have a little store inside of imported polish/european products though which was nice. Had this one on my list for a while to try due to high recommendations. I was finally was in the area because I had to be with someone at the hospital nearby, so it was nice that it was a close walk for a quick healthy to-go lunch. Great, friendly, and on-time service for my build-your-own sandwich that I pre-ordered online. There were lots of veggies in my liverwurst & corned beef sandwich, which I appreciated because I love my veggies, but there was one thick slice of liverwurst (I would've preferred this sliced thinner and better spread out in my sandwich because it was too heavy for some bites and nonexistent in some other bites) and it felt like barely any corned beef (I barely noticed it). I also would've preferred a warm sandwich on that cold Seattle day, but that wasn't an option unless it was a set uncustomizable option the menu. Also disappointed in their rye bread - maybe it's their standard, but I've always had rye that is really fragrant and darker colored, whereas this one was light and had no flavor at all (which was weird to me because even rye at Subway has flavor, so this is my first time with rye like this). Overall, I would come again in a pinch but there seems to be other intriguing options in the area to try as well if I'm already going to pay $12 for a sandwich. I will try again at least once though since I was also eyeing their reuben and pierogies, and saw they have pąckzis on weekends. Will give an updated review once that's been tried.

Yelp
Didn't know about this place and lived in Seattle Downtown for 6 years. Go and try everything - yummy. I maybe shouldn't tell you but they will have Polish Pączki tomorrow with plum jam, it's to die for.
google avatar

Ernest L.

Yelp
I get the build your own sandwich with turkey ham and sourdough. It's always delicious.

J C.

Yelp
Great food, great service, a gem in Seattle for sure. All kind of polish goodies. I am a regular and I had their sausages, cheeses, desserts, and sandwiches - all good stuffs. Strongly recommend this place. They make their own sausages and some of the polish desserts. Parking is hard so plan accordingly. Also, looks like they now offer online ordering and catering services!

Yelp
Got a Reuben in Rye sandwich. It was alright. Service was friendly. It was a cute little deli and grocery store with European products. It's pretty decent. A bit hard to get to since there's construction right out in front of it. So might have a tough time going around. Plenty of street parking when the area isn't busy.

Tom C.

Yelp
A new addition to the goods available to buy: locally baked fresh poppy seed cake (makowiec). Simply superb. Also, the new owner bakes a very good bread: wheat/rye combo with just a touch of caraway seeds and black cumin (czarnuszka) aroma.

Sahrah D.

Yelp
Seattle's best reuben, found on First Hill! Fresh pączki every Saturday, order a dozen and get the special deal. Authentic Polish flavors: assorted pierogi, imported foods and European beers, kielbasa smoked in-house, daily soups. HEARTY deli sandwiches for a working appetite.

Lourdes R.

Yelp
Wow! Hard to find authentic Polish products in the PNW. The fresh white sausage is homemade and just like busia's. We got the warm smoked sausage that just came out and tried it immediately, what great flavor. Got some horseradish & Polish plum chocolates called Sliwa. All great but the prices are outrageous $12/pound for the sausage and each small package of chocolates. I understand supply & demand but this could cripple any budget. Service was very helpful.

Yelp
I'm sure you've heard of Reno, Nevada being the biggest little city in the world... well this has got to be the littlest big deli in Seattle! A tiny almost hole in the wall shop that I have passed by over 30x on my way to church never knowing it was there. While it was small it definitely packed a massive sandwich that was loaded with fresh veggies and meats! Think major chain on steroids and if they used good meats. They had an amazing selection of deli meats which I will definitely be trying next time on top of the hearty sandwich selections. I can't wait to be hungry again to go back! Keep up the great work!

Yelp
We stopped in at about 1:30 on a Wednesday, and were able to immediately order. 10 minutes later we were out the door with our food. The deli was chock full of Polish food, candies, meats, and other absolutely delicious looking food. It's unfortunate we weren't able to try everything. We did try the Chicken Panini and Reuben, both were excellent! While some chicken in sandwiches is very thin, often over baked and bland, the chicken in my panini was thick, well seasoned and substantial. Really, the deli put everything you could want in a sandwich.

Yelp
Incredibile deli. Perfect hole in the wall spot with THE best sandwiches in Seattle! Not to mention authentic Polish specialities like piroghe & sausage. Look no further for an unbelievable sandwich.

Yelp
We are so blessed to have this gem in our neighborhood! Thank you for all the yumminess! Kary & Glenn

Yelp
Amazing quality deli with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend for lunch.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong this is nothing like the sandwiches I'm used to. Is the best sandwich I've had since I've moved from New York to Seattle? Yes. I recommend the salami sandwich or the turkey sandwich. I've heard rave reviews about the potato salad... But it wasn't my favorite thing in the world. We didn't even eat it fully. The sandwiches are a little bit pricey but they're gigantic. The service is not the best. There are a few women that work in there, but when it's busy they seem very frazzled and sometimes give you the wrong sandwich or take a while to make it.

Randy F.

Yelp
Have become a kind of irregular regular in that some of the employees know by name, are all friendly and nice! Am myself of German descent and I feel that their products are familiar and delicious.

Kari R.

Yelp
Best sandwiches off the griddle you could ever hope to eat. The Reuben will knock your socks off. Also the only place to get great quality ingredients for my favorite polish soup- Zurek. The smoked meats are next to none. Love this place!
google avatar

Sue F.

Yelp
Food is excellent and sandwiches are the best in Seattle. Been going here forever. Sausage by the pound. Homemade sausage sandwich is my favorite.
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
I came here with my partner for a quick lunch today. we are both pescatarian, so we were counting on the tuna fish sandwich. the only non meat option. the person working the counter regretted to inform us that they had just sold out of the tuna fish. however instead of leaving it there, they offered to make us the tastiest grilled cheeses I've had in a while. and they threw in some free potato salad (also great)! food was fast, delicious, but most importantly great people work there. thanks yall

Yelp
I had a medical appointment a block from here and randomly parked in front of George's. What great luck! After my appointment I had plenty of meter so stepped in and...whoosh! Transported to a deli/sandwich shop most anywhere in Europe, this particular shop leaning heavily in the Polish direction. Wonderful mustards, pickles, canned trout, peppers, and a small but nicely done deli meat counter. I asked about the small sausage while she cut up roast pork for me and she handed me a sample- yum! Picked up an assortment of goodies and walked to my car happier than I'd planned for the day! My wife agreed about the sausage and I've put away three or four roast pork sandwiches with horseradish. This place rocks.
google avatar

Yelp
Best deli in Seattle/King County (probably the PNW for that matter). Excellent quality meats, prepared in house; salted herring, Polish/Ukrainian grocery foods. Best sandwiches. And, love the potato salad. I've been stocking up at George's for about 15 years. Homey deli. Worth the effort. It won't be here for ever, don't miss out. Honestly, my favorite place in Seattle. Plan for a few extra minutes due to construction. Enjoy the great food you find. Then, let City of Seattle know they should not make it so hard for business to remain open during long-term construction. This one is a gem.
google avatar

George T.

Yelp
Holy smokes is this a nice little gem. Not much bigger than a large bedroom but full of European products. Sausages looked great. The soup was fantastic! Place was packed - and I see why.
google avatar

Bryan R.

Yelp
I love this place!!! The best pastrami sandwich in the city. Not to mention the kalbasa is the bomb and they carry my favorite horseradish!
google avatar

Patty H.

Yelp
Had fantastic sandwiches for lunch today. Turkey sub and turkey on wheat yummy. Roast beef and pastrami were great too (so much meat!). We were full after eating half the sandwiches. Can hardly wait for the other half. Next time I'm in the area I'll be back for sure. Friendly service as well.
google avatar

Tom C.

Yelp
Found George's on Yelp and thought I would give it a try as it's just a short walk from the nearby hospital(s). The exterior storefront is small, but the inside is packed with well-organized European grocery items. Additionally there are a variety of sausages available for purchase. I opted for the pastrami on sourdough. The pastrami was juicy and not overly salty like some can be. The bread tasted like it was freshly baked. The portions were fair for the price (I believe around $8). The potato salad was one of the best I've had. I can't put my finger on exactly what it was, but the combination of seasoning (I think I tasted fresh dill as the difference maker) made it. In short, I'll be back for more.
google avatar

Danna R.

Yelp
Yay yay yay!!! George's is still open! All other places around it closed but their small cardboard sign announced what I wanted to see-- OPEN! It's been years since I last went here for a sandwich, but I still felt like a child in a big candy store. My eyes feasted on the snacks, treats, jams, picked veggies, beautiful deli meat, and of course the regulars-- hot sandwiches, soups, potato salad, pierogis. My group ordered potato and beef pierogis, sausage, roast beef, Reuben, and chicken panini. Everything was soooo good! They were as always very generous and we forgot how potent their sauerkraut was! Maybe we'll ask them to go easy on that next time. Otherwise, it was still the perfect generous, well loved sandwich place we've always known! Come and visit and see for yourselves what magic this place makes!
google avatar

Hucky K.

Yelp
Pros: simple classic Polish style deli menu l, food is awesome and conveniently good. So authentic! I love it Cons: tricky area to find parking
google avatar

Aileen N.

Yelp
Straight fire. George's has some the best quality sandwiches in Seattle hands down. Their cuts of meat are flavorful and never too salty. My go to is a salami on sourdough. It always hits the spot! They also have soups of the day that I want to try like sausage and vegetable, mushroom, and tomato. For the price and consistent high quality, you can't beat George's.
google avatar

Tim J.

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem. Best Rueben sandwich I've ever had, and I've had more than my fair share of Rueben sandwiches. Take out only. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Rob L.

Yelp
A Seattle icon! You must visit. FYI they tend to put a lot of mayo on the sandwich, so if that is not your thing, let them know before you order!
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
Stopped in 10 minutes before closing to get some sausage for a Polish meal that my boyfriend wanted to make for us. The woman who assisted me was so welcoming and friendly and gladly gave me her suggestions on sauerkraut and beer too at my request. The food was amazing and I will be back to support them!
google avatar

Kris P.

Yelp
Used to frequent this deli when I worked on First Hill at the hospitals. Treated my man to a great deli sandwich juts as I remembered - no crumbs left behind. Great to see the families faces are still there. I will always love this place!
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
What a cute little eastern European deli. English is not the main language of most of the packaged goods in the shop which is awesome. Inhad a pastrami on rye which was outstanding, but I was disappointed to learn that their pierogi is packaged and trucked in from a factory in Chicago. Still, I'll pop in to georges for lunch anytime I'm on first hill now.
google avatar

Jasmin K.

Yelp
An absolute gem of a place. Great selection of cheese and cold cuts. Perfect for lunch if you are in the area. Plentiful selection of Polish goodies, including my favorite nalewka (fruity liqueur), śliwka (plums covered with dark chocolate), ptasie mleczko (milky-marshmallowish chocolate covered candy) and everything you like. Friendly staff. They understood my broken Polish! :D
google avatar

Jay C.

Yelp
Always professional. Always DeeeeLish smamiches. Always prompt. Always yummy Best sammich in town. Worst parking lol

Yelp
Wow. Wow. WOW! My goodness is this place amazing! Tons of condiments and polish snacks to choose from, but the SANDWICHES!!! They are made with LOVE! Also, the customer service is unmatched. I just had an amazing experience i will definitely be back :) If you're looking for a healthier option on the Hill, stop by this place!

darrick p.

Yelp
I love George's. Definitely a staple of my community. Best sandwich in Seattle hands down.
google avatar

Shani A.

Yelp
Heard a lot of great things about this place so had to check it out. Inside the store smells amazing. They have a bunch of different meat options for sale, as well as many Eastern European delights. We got the George's special, which had three different meats on it, the tuna with sauerkraut, and a make your own sandwiches. For a place that makes the sandwiches so fast, they were really good. The sauerkraut surprisingly fit really well with the tuna, my coworkers loved the special sandwich, and the make your own was also quite delicious. 5 sandwiches cost us about $50.

Yelp
We visited family in Seattle for Easter, and this was our first stop after the airport. We needed to pick up Polish sausage for Easter dinner (as we do). This tiny little shop is a haven on all things Polish and rivals some of the Polish grocery stores we've been to in Chicago, though it's much smaller. The women behind the counter had things down to a science on what I'm sure was a busy day compounded by the lunch rush. The shelves are packed with Polish goods, including candy and kraut. The deli case is well-stocked. We had the fresh Polish sausage, which was excellent. It had a good balance of spices without being overwhelming. We couldn't resist ordering sandwiches while we were there. I had corned beef on rye. The corned beef was lean and flavorful -- and the sandwich was generous. Highly recommend this little shop, especially for those seeking an authentic Polish experience.
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
I was in the area and looked up nearby places and this place popped up. I haven't been to a Polish Deli before and this was a perfect day to try it. I had the polish sausage sandwich on rye. It ended up being a cold sandwich. Not a fan. It had a good crunch as it had sliced dill pickles, tomato, shredded lettuce, cucumber(?) and creamy sauce. The sandwich fell apart while eating it. A messy meal. The sausage in it was okay but sandwich would've been better warm. Giving this place 3 of 5 stars. Prompt service and lots of Polish groceries inside. There's also a deli counter with lots of pork products for sale.
google avatar

Jessica Y.

Yelp
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR - they carry Kasia's frozen pierogi, distributed out of Chicago! If you are a fan of dumplings, do not miss out on these delightful Polish potato & cheese pillows; eat them with sour cream. George's also carries the mushroom and sauerkraut varieties. I grew up eating Kasia's, so it makes me absolutely giddy to find this here in Seattle. The shop is packed with all sorts of other goodies - I picked up some buckwheat groats and neapolitan wafers as well. Everyone working there is super friendly and happy to answer any questions.

Maggie M.

Yelp
Best sandwich I've ever had (corned beef) and the pierogi were delightful. The service was delightful and the product interesting. Thankful for such a great experience.
google avatar

Irene T.

Yelp
Hidden gem! I've gone to this place a few times in the last few weeks and it does not disappoint. The soup is very good and flavorful, they also included bread on the side. Recently I got the sauerkraut and mushroom pierogies, super yummy. As well as a corn beef sandwich, which was crunchy and flavorful. Def recommend, food qualify and affordable.
google avatar

Kiki M.

Yelp
Finally I found Good Sandwich shop!! I'm from NYC, always grab good sandwich everywhere, Katz Deli, Eisenberg sandwich, Mikes Deli in Bronx, bodega sandwich! Awesome bread selections and authentic sausages and cold cuts!!

Yelp
One truly hidden gem. Small Polish deli that obviously gives a damn. Sandwiches are a miraculous value and there's also all kinds of good deli stuff here for you to take home. Heads up - this is take away only.
