The 15 Best Dumplings In Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Head to Northeast Philly for an order of dumplings that could take down a sailboat. The massive khinkali at Georgian Bread come packed with a soupy mix of herbs, spiced beef, and pork. If you're newer to the universe of khinkali, know that these dumplings have thick, doughy skins. Navigating the chomping process may be more work than getting your SEPTA key card to read on its first swipe, but it's always worth the mess." - candis mclean

The 20 Best Spots In Northeast Philly

"The list of Georgian spots in Philadelphia isn’t long, but you can get a great plate of khachapuri at this restaurant, seven days a week. Owned by the team behind Saami Somi in Reading Terminal Market, this place actually has a larger menu and picnic table seating that’s ideal for big groups. Our favorite thing here is the massive khinkali dumplings—they’re packed with a soupy and spiced beef, pork, and herb filling. Navigating through the bite-to-suck process may be more work than getting your SEPTA key card to read on its first swipe, but it’s totally worth it." - candis mclean

Georgian Bread Review - Northeast Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Head up to Northeast Philly for an order of dumplings that will leave you questioning if your eyes are bigger than your stomach. The massive khinkali at Georgian Bread are packed with a soupy and spiced beef, pork, and herb filling. Navigating through the bite-to-suck process may be more work than getting your SEPTA key card to read on its first swipe, but it’s worth it since each dumpling has a great mix of heat and flavor in each bite." - Candis R. Very cute little spot. Went on a Thursday evening and it wasn't busy. Has a few tables in the dining area and also there's a Cafe area to purchase bakeries. Friendly and sweet staff. Server recommended a few things. Can't remember what they're called. But the bread boat with cheese and egg was delightful!! Especially when it first comes out, the cheese was so melty and the bread was nice and warm. Would come back again just for that! First time having Georgian food and it was a hit! **came back with a differnt friend and we thoroughly enjoyed everything again. Got the cheese boat, a grill veg salad, and a chicken dish. Everything was so delicious. They did change the interior so it's more classy and doesn't have the wooden tables anymore.

The food was so delicious and huge size. Couldn’t really finish, but couldn’t leave it also so the nicest server was so kind to give us takeaway boxes. Nice atmosphere and people. Recomended so bad

This bread kachapuri, with cheese and egg, is so good. It is one of the best things in life. I have not been here in a while, but the food is always good. I felt awkward at the end because I turned around and a staff person was rolling their eyes behind their head. I believe it was toward me because I was the only person there, besides the person whom they were speaking with. I was not able to understand. I am not Georgian. I probably will not go back.

I ordered one glass of Mors drink, as you can see on the photo more than half of the glass was filled with berries with seeds. Only when I asked for a drink without the seeds, and the waitress brought another one. Also the salad had a description of grilled eggplant, bell peppers and tomato, but as you can see on the video it was just a mess, served cold just out of the jar, definitely not freshly cooked in the kitchen . And the second drink lemonade was served without glass, just like you buy from the store and drink it in the street.

Google
The food is delicious, and the quality is acceptable with fair pricing. However, the cleanliness leaves much to be desired, and the service is very poor. It takes a long time to receive service, and the one of the staff who bring the food ( the boy with red cloth) can be rude and inattentive to customer requests. We really unhappy from their service . We asked them to bring cold water and the boy bring us hot water and told us it is what it is( he was very very rude ) On a positive note, they do offer good quality bread.

Google
I really wanted this place to be a 5 star but it just went downhill as the time went by. Food was great. We had the soup dumplings, Khachapuri, lamb, veal rib barbecue and lamb lula kebob. All the items were hot and tasty but the lamb barbecue was a bit hard. The service was honestly TERRIBLE. We had to wait so so long for the food to come out or even get water. We had to ask two times for just a water pitch which was originally brought to us super warm and the third time they took it back and brought a more chilled one. I don’t think our server really wanted to be there or interested in the job. I was super uncomfortable and would never dine in again. I liked the food though so If I want some Georgian food I would do a take out or pick up.

Google
We came to this place just to try the khachapuri — we heard it was good. But honestly, we deeply regretted it. The waitress was sitting there with her headphones in. She looked at us when we entered, then just kept sitting like we didn’t exist. After a while, she took off her headphones with the most annoyed expression on her face, still didn’t get up, and just shouted something across the room, as if we were bothering her. The whole atmosphere was disgusting. Zero service, zero hospitality, zero respect. This place is rude, smelly, and absolutely not worth visiting. Don’t waste your time.

Google
The food was tasty interesting fresh seemed to be made well from good ingredients. It was interesting to learn a bit about Georgua - the country the culture of the language the food from the menu and the waitress Mari. The atmosphere was a bit dark for my tastes because the window was blocked and the tables were simple and functional. Service was okay but I think the one young lady was just overwhelmed because so many people came in and so it took a little while to get water for example, but all in all I would go again.

Yelp
This place underwent major changes and ,as I learned changed ownership around a year ago. This is a great news for all patrons and restaurant itself. For now, they are still operating on the old menu, but in couple months they promise exciting additions to the lunch and dinner options. They changed whole concept ,place is really looking younger, their prepared food section becomes more like small food market with beautiful vegetarian dishes and imported cheeses from Georgia. Service is much better, food is very good. My favorite was green bean pkhali and as a sweet finale they offered huuuge piece of divine cake, called Sneakers, with condensed milk based frosting, meringue in the middle and beautiful chocolate cake layers. So jealous to locals, who can dine here as much as possible.

Yelp
The first thing you need to do is try the Georgian bread--crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and absolutely delicious. We kept it simple with the plain version and paired it with the eggplant and pomegranate appetizer, which I highly recommend. We also ordered the dumplings and the pork and beef kebab--both were excellent. The interior is simple, but the prices are very reasonable, and they have a great takeout selection as well. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
10/10 for food. This was my first time having Georgian cuisine and I loved it so much, I actually researched recipes and attempted cooking the dishes at home the following week. There were 3 of us and we split the beets with walnuts, spinach with walnuts, eggplant with walnuts (wish this had more pomegranate arils), chkmeruli (chicken cooked in milk and garlic sauce), meat khinkali (dumplings), and khachapuri (bread filled with cheese and egg, I could have eaten this entire dish myself). I also especially loved the spinach with walnuts! Cute interior but the benches are not very comfortable. There is also a counter section where you can order many of the menu items to-go. Service was less than stellar (forgot a drink order) which is the only reason this is a 4-star review and not 5.

Yelp
One of the coolest things about Georgian Bread is the pride they have for their country. It's not just the pictures and decor on the wall or the traditional music, but they even have a full write up describing their culture and cuisine on the back of their menu. With this having been the first time we had Georgian cuisine, it was genuinely interesting to read. When you walk into the restaurant, you are immediately greeted with a "look behind the glass" to their oven room, where you can see the cool tandoor oven they use to bake their bread. Seating is pretty intimate, and it can fill up fast. There was probably about 12-15 tables with one waiter. He did a decent job, but was constantly running back and forth. We had to flag him down a few times, but when we did grab his attention, he was willing to explain the menu to us and provide some recommendations (which was helpful because it is huge with lots of interesting selections!) The plates aren't necessarily pretty, but they are hardy. We ended up selecting the following: Khinkali: 5 piece boiled hand rolled dough bundles filled with juicy meat and herbs. Beef and pork...This was okay. Flavor was somewhat bland, and I found myself wishing I had some sort of hot sauce to put on it. I also would have appreciated an explanation of how to eat, because they are served like soup dumplings, and I ended up just cutting them and losing a lot of broth inside. Eggplant with Walnuts: Eggplant spread with nuts, pomegranates, herbs and onions...Really different, but very good. It's a cold dish, and the eggplant is roasted and tender, and somehow is a great pairing with the pomegranate. Mushroom & Cheese: Champignon mushrooms fried on a clay put with sulguni cheese...This was hands down our favorite dish. Imeruli: Oven baked soft bread filled with cheese...this was good, but not overwhelming. Essentially a cheese pizza. It was so heavy with cheese and grease, you can only eat a couple of slices, and again, felt like it was missing some sort of sauce to cut it with. We also enjoyed their traditional lemonade (Zandukeli) & dessert (Churchkhela - which is candle-looking shaped snack made by dipping nuts into a roux made from fruit juice (usually grape juice) and flour.) And on our way out, I caught a glimpse of one of their delivery boxes which said "Try Something Different." That's truly what it was - different. Would I go out of my way to eat there again in person? Probably not. However, if you are local and/or are interested in delivery, I do think it is fun to try something new. And definitely true comfort food!!

Yelp
Went here for lunch with my family recently after seeing some positive reviews about it online. Food (rating 2.5/5): I won't write down everything we ordered since it was 8-9 different dishes, as we wanted to try a variety of their food. We did get some of their more popular dishes, including their khinkali (similar to soup dumplings), megruli (similar to pizza), adjaruli, house-made bread, and other items. I'm not exaggerating when I say the plain bread was the best thing we ate here. I have to give them props on that - they're actually a very good bakery. However, every other dish was either too oily, overly salty, or had something else wrong with it. The khinkali dumplings, for example, had very thick dough layer and some parts of it were still raw dough. I'm not sure if culturally, Georgian food is just that way or if it's just this restaurant, but the food did not live up to the reviews AT ALL. Service Notes: The waitress had an annoyed look on her face the moment she came over to seat us. From her scowl, tone, and mannerisms, you would think she hated being there. The restaurant wasn't even busy at the time, so it's not like she was annoyed having to serve a bunch of tables. She didn't even bring us any water until we asked for it, and then never came to refill even after we drank it all due to the salty food. TLDR: Neither the food nor the service was good. I'm flabbergasted they have over 4 stars on Yelp.

Yelp
Get there in the afternoon and you can watch them make bread in their clay oven - it's fabulous! While I enjoyed the dumplings, the cheese bread - think white pizza but with mild Mediterranean cheeses not Italian - is FANTASTIC! Winner!

Yelp
Got a delicious spread this weekend at Georgian Bread! The portions and prices are amazing and the seating is comfy. There's a spot where you can see them make the bread in a giant oven which is a fun touch. Adjaruli is the bread boat filled with cheese, and that was so delicious and enough for several people to share. Pork soup, Khinkali soup dumplings, potatoes, and tolma cabbage roll were my favorites. The chicken doesn't taste quite like your typical chicken but the flavor was alright, just different texture maybe. The server was a little harsh but quick once we ordered. The bread will make me come back.

Yelp
Really tasty, authentic, spacious and clean restaurant! My friends and I arrived 40min before closing, and they were kind enough to serve us. It was my first time trying this cuisine so I wasn't sure what to expect, but everything tasted great! We ordered Khinkali meat, Chicken lula kebab, Mushroom and cheese, eggplant with walnuts and adjaruli. My favorites were the kebab and adjaruli! The khinkali meat is a huge dumpling. You poke a tiny hole and a ton of the juice will spill out. I'm not sure how to properly eat this, but very flavorful and soft. The kebab came in a big skewer and was cooked to perfection. Very tender mixed with raw red onions and a nice hot sauce. I would like to try lamb next time! Mushroom and cheese was very cheesy and arrived hot in a clay pot. Beautiful presentation with a lot of dill on top. Eggplant with walnuts was extremely different and a cold dish I was not expecting. Unique flavors and I am glad to have tried it! Last, was the delicious adjaruli. Super soft, gooey, decadent and delicious! All prices went up 20% and it includes a service fee which does not cover tip.

Yelp
Per Google, Georgian food is arguably one of the world's most underrated cuisines, featuring flavors from Greece and the Mediterranean, as well as influences from Turkey and Persia. Warm, gooey comfort food like khachapuri (cheese-stuffed bread) finds balance with matsoni (yogurt). Herbs like tarragon, flat parsley, dill and coriander combine with walnuts and garlic for rich fillings and sauces. Our server Anna, who was very friendly and fun to talk to, spoke Russian, Georgian as well as English and she helped us navigate the menu when we had questions. Most items have English descriptions but not all. I asked how to properly eat the Khinkali, the twisted knobs of dough stuffed with meat and spices similar to soup dumplings. Her answer was to pick it up by its elongated top, flip it over and bite towards its top so that the sauce would not spill out. It was delicious. The Eggplant with Walnut was amazing, and I usually don't like eggplant. The Tolma, stuffed cabbage, was also very good. The Mushroom & Cheese came to the table bubbling hot and looked fantastic. It was our only slightly disappointing choice. The Chicken Tabaka, fried chicken, was very good. We had been here once before (pre-pandemic) and had the khachapuri (cheese stuffed/covered bread) and it was delicious but very filling so this time we just had the plain bread which was also very good. You must try some of the breads while you are here. It's a BYO and a fun place to try something, at least for us, completely different. There were 3 of us and the total bill before tip was around $60. As I'm writing this, I just noticed a Service Fee. I'm not sure if this was a built in tip or not. I'll ask when we return the next time to try things that we've never had before.

Yelp
We're talking CHEESE. We're talking BUTTER. We're talking MEAT on a SWORD. Georgian Bread did not disappoint. This place has been on my radar since I first learned of Adjaruli. Bread, cheese, and butter are the building blocks of my entire existence. There's a pocket of great Eastern European cuisine in this part of Philadelphia, and Georgian Bread is a star. It's worth the drive on Roosevelt Boulevard to get here, no hesitations. Visiting during the aftermath of snow storm may not have been my best idea, as the roads were a mess and the parking lot was slushy and chaotic. Once I entered Georgian Bread, the stress melted away. They have a very impressive setup with large wooden, family-style seating and rustic, Georgian décor. Don't be fooled by their shopping center locale. The customers and employees were speaking in foreign languages, and I found it incredibly fascinating. No doubting the authenticity of their craft. They have a dine-in space for table service, as well as service counter for to-go deli items and other accoutrements. We were seated in the dine in area after several minutes of awkward lingering - I honestly don't think they were expecting customers with the weather. Our server was super nice, took our order, and left us to our own devices. We had the entire place to ourselves. We ordered the Adjaruli, lamb Kebabs, and a jug of hot tea to share. Ultimate comfort meal. I thought the kebabs would be small. The photo on the menu indicated two, 12 inch wooden dowels with a few pieces of small meat - just a taster, I thought. I thought WRONG. We were served what I would essentially call a SWORD with giant, tender, juicy cuts of lamb. The value was like highway robbery. It paired perfectly with our melty, eggy, salty, butter bread boat of heavenly cheese. It was the perfect amount of food for a lunch for two. The desserts looks AMAZING. I definitely want to come back to try more items. My only complaint was the service was super slow. This could be cultural, but it could also be because it was a slow, snowy day and we were the only customers. Either way, the servers were super kind, and it was not a determent from the meal.

Yelp
Finally had a reason to visit Georgian Bread - and it was worth the wait. The Adjaruli was fresh baked and the combination of farmers cheese, egg and butter were a rich indulgence. Tolma, the Georgian version of stuffed cabbage was robust - we suggest ordering extra bread to soak up the incredible sauce. Khinkali, close to a Chinese soup dumpling had a great tooth in the wrapper with a clean savory broth. Finished off with a slice of the Idial or honey cake. Dense, moist with a rich caramel filling ( think Dulce de Leche) all wrapped in a Biscoff crumb - half came home! Can't wait to be back in NE Philly to enjoy another meal here.

Yelp
I had never had Georgian food until someone took me there recently to try way too many dishes. She loves the food and she wanted me to try everything! The bread was amazing, the service was so so good, and no matter what I tasted, I thought it something I'd like to eat again.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come to GBC for a long time ever since reading Craig Laban's review. Now I see that Philadelphia Magazine ranks GBC as a top 50 restaurant. My wife and I had the night to ourselves and decided to finally give GBC a chance. It was a pleasant time out. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we were there about 6pm on a Sunday. However, it slowly filled up to about a quarter full in the 10 or so picnic sized tables. The very strange elevator music was laughable hearing Foo Fighters, Sting, and the like turned into small jazz combo with a female singer. Our waitress was pleased to hear it was our first time there and gave a lot of recommendations which we took. We ended up with way too much food, but brought most home. We started with a beet salad with walnut and a regular salad. I was expecting sliced beats with some candied walnuts but what came was a huge raw burger patty like salad comprising of shredded beats and pulverized walnuts. I didn't expect to taste the walnuts but they were definitely there. The salad tasted better than it looked. My wife's regular salad was tomatoes and a few cucumbers in a light dressing which she did not care for. The recommended Khinkali were huge dumplings filled with ground meat. We were warned to just pick them up and eat as they had liquid that would come out. Both of us get they were just ok. Not too much meat in them, and my wife thought they had a pice of something inside she had to spit out. What was outstanding came next. The Adjaruli. A football shaped homemade bread with melted cheeses, butter, and raw egg inside. You mix the insides together, cut a piece of the bread and dip to your heart's content. We loved this and in the future consider just getting one or two of these to go. Better than a white pizza. We then got to meats. The barbecue lamb baran was tough. The barbecue veal rib was much better. The rib was perfect medium rare and so tasty with their version of barbecue. It was a nice thick cut, too. Another recommended meat was the Chkmeruli which is a whole chicken cooked in milk and spices. We both were not impressed with the taste although I'm sure it was appropriately cooked. I don't think we're used to a milk base. GBC is a BYOB so we had our bottle of wine with us and weren't charged any fee to open it. But I did purchase some of the best flavor infused water I've ever had. They have Kampot in multiple flavors by the glass or pitcher. I could've drank a whole pitcher on my own. Went with the apricot flavor and it was sweet and full of apricot smell and taste. It also had a pice of a whole apricot in the bottom. I ended up buying another glass. Lastly, we did go with a dessert. It was a classic Napoleon which was light and flaky, sweet, vanilla insides, and crunchy. It was an excellent dessert and my wife and I shared one which was enough especially since we brought a lot of of meal home. Our female server was knowledgeable about anything we asked, friendly, and quick. Overall, some major hits and some strikes with all of the food we tried at GBC. It wasn't a favorite for us, but would come back for that homemade bread and cheese. And if we did sit-down, get some of that water, too. Someone mentioned in a recent Yelp review they felt ripped off because their bill was 20% higher than menu prices. I double checked our bill to the menu and everything was priced correctly. Maybe GBC reprinted the menus? $115 not including tip for our big meal which I already admitted was too much food just for the two of us. But I'm glad we got to try a bunch of what GBC had to offer. We think you should try it out, too!

Yelp
Solid authentic Georgian food. Fresh and homemade. Good service in a comfortable dining room. Fresh Georgian bread baked here as well in their bakery which is part of the restaurant.Plenty of parking.

Yelp
The place has a restaurant on the left side and a bakery togo counter on the right. The area is spacious and more traditional restaurant style. The service was alright and if needed there is a call button. Adjaruli: 5/5 must get. Delicious soft fluffy warm bread with slight crisp exterior. The cheese is melty and creamy. The egg adds another dimension to it. 100% a must get item. Chicken Tabaka: 3.5/5 nice flavored crispy chicken. Well seasoned. The wings were amazing juicy and delicious. The same can't be said about the thigh portions as they were dry and harder sadly. Barbecue Lamb: 3/5 juicy lamb. The beginning and end piece are usually hard stuck into the skewer. Lost the beginning piece cause it was so hard getting it off that it flew. Amazing cook on the lamb but way too salty. Qada: 4/5 this is more of a dry pastry. It has subtle sweetness to it and a hard exterior. The interior isn't as hard but not a soft type of pastry. Would pair amazing with milk though! Pairs well with the Idial if you decided to take one bite of each! Idial: delicious nutty flavor that keeps you eating. The sweet flavors that are not too overpowering. It's soft, moist, and creamy. Must get dessert here! Also pairs well with tea or milk. Overall: A great place especially for groups so everyone can get something to share. Food is solid and so is the dessert. Definitely a must try!

Geoffrey S.

Yelp
Mixed feelings on this one. The food is very good but the wait staff is exceptionally sour. Other than listening to your order and walking food to the table, there is minimal interaction and 0 attention paid. They don't provide water unless asked and won't take notice of the need for a refill. They don't ask if you want the check - they slap it down when it appears you're nearly done. Half the time, items are deposited mid walk across the room akin to someone dropping car keys on a counter. I will return but I hope the owner fixes this issue as the dining room is not a warm and inviting place and detracts from the excellent food.

Yelp
This is a reliable spot to get decent renditions of Georgian dumplings, Khinkali. The chicken kabobs were too tough and dry, however. This place didn't impress me. But, it's cool to know there is a place doing Georgian food. That is hard to find anywhere in the US. Note: The service was a little spotty and slow. But...I don't rate on service by rule.

Yelp
What a great find!! I almost went to Georgia before the pandemic hit and wanted to make sure I at least sample the cuisine. This place is a bit of a hike from center city but totally worth it in my opinions. We got different types of Georgian breads, one of the desserts and a chicken dish. Everything was delicious. Their cheese on the bread is so different and flavorful. It's a bunch of salty goodness. I will definitely go back to try more stuff

Yelp
Awesome bakery/restaurant! I definitely recommend this place ! Love their Kachapuris and Kinkalis as well as their Georgian bread and bake goods.

Yelp
The best khinkali in Philadelphia!!! Service is good. Also they need to expand their business, it is always packed.

Yelp
I'm not reviewing this as a restaurant. I'm reviewing it as a bakery. I've been here twice and the plain bread is among the best I've ever had. Last time , I bought some cheese which was incredibly salty and some rather strange soda. Who cares? Because the bread is great. It's in the same mall as Net Cost. Ge

Yelp
Food is really delicious !! But service is very slow ,one waiter for whole cafe Waiting our khinkali more than 30min. Very disappointed

Yelp
Great service. Server explained all the dishes and made recommendations for our group as we were unfamiliar with the selections. Everything we tried was delicious; generous portions and we all had plenty to take home!

Yelp
Venturing out to new cuisine. I really liked this place. Good homemade food. Everything came out hot fresh perfect and delicious. Would definitely go back and recommend to everyone who want to try new things. I don't eat beans but I tried the clay pot one and they were delicious so much so that I wanted a to go order.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. I have been to Georgia. I stayed in the capital city for two weeks and when I got home I missed the food. I found this place and it definitely hits the spot when I have the craving to back to Tbilisi.

Yelp
Love this place. Whenever I am in Northeast Philly and shopping in Netcost I can't resist eating here. It's delicious, service is always friendly. Casual vibe and you could buy fresh bread and some food in the little store as well

Yelp
What a lovely place with delicious food and friendly helpful staff. I was on a food adventure in the Northeast part of the city and read the good Yelp reviews and the article in the Philadelphia Inquirer so I stopped in. The woman working at the counter spoke mostly the Georgian language but was very patient with me in explaining what each item on the menu and in the deli case was. She also allowed me to taste items when I was not sure of her explanation Everything I tried and purchased was delicious. The Khinkali were five hand rolled tender dumplings filled with a tasty filling of juicy meat beef and pork. The Adjapsandali was a grilled eggplant salad with bell peppers, tomato, garlic and onions. The Beet and Walnut Salad actually looked like a pastry in the display case but actually was beets ground up with walnuts and spices. Very unusual and delicious. The Imeruli is like a super cheese pizza. The cheese is very stretchy and the pie was excellent. The Adjarulii was dough shaped like a boat and filled with a soft farmers cheese topped with butter and an egg. It was excellent! We also picked up two of the House Made Breads that are made in a Igloo shaped oven. They had a number of delicious looking desserts but i will have to wait for my next visit to try them.

Yelp
So the hubby and I have been wanting to try this local Georgian restaurant. We decided to go for lunch/dinner today. The restaurant is really cute with nice wood bench table set ups and nice picture decor. The place was quite busy so the hubby and I ordered 4 different things to share as we never tried anything before. We ordered the beef stew, pork and beef dumplings, Barbecued chicken and their cheese bread with poached egg! The stew was quite flavorful, meat very tender and I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my husband. My only complaint is there were only 3 little pieces of meat in the stew which I believe for the cost of $12 the portion all around was a tad small. The cheese bread with poached egg was very good and a very hefty portion. We didn't even finish it. We really liked those 2 items. The dumplings were oversized very doughy and unfortunately just not very appealing to us. It was not very flavorful and what flavor you did taste was a heavy cilantro. We didn't each one between the two of us. The Barbequed chicken came out on a long skewer and was totally covered in raw onions which was different but confused me as we didn't order the kabob. The chicken was absolutely bland with NO flavor at all. It was not tender and honestly enedible to us both. The sauce offered was not tasty and we love sauces and are willing to try but NOPE. So we were 2 for 4 on this visit. The waitress asked if we liked the food as she saw the chicken sitting untouched. I explained it had no flavor and was just not for us. She said there is nothing on it just pepper that is why. That is confusing as it doesn't state it will have onions or be cooked without anything on the menu. We weren't offered to exchange for a different item or have removed from the bill which in my opinion would have been a nice gesture. The menu isn't very big and to go again and risk this happening again isn't worth it for us to go for the couple of things we did like. My 3 stars is for ambiance, decor and the dishes that we thought were really yummy!

Yelp
This review is skewed by a horrible experience with grub hub, but I was very underwhelmed. If the restaurant reads these, grubhub is a trainwreck. I lose every time. The food was subpar whether it was delivered an hour late or not. Chkmeruli - this is not a whole chicken - it is 4 skin on thighs. Flavor is great. Lamb BBQ - the meat was flavorful, but tough. This could be a side effect of the long delivery time, but there was a ton of gristle in half the pieces. Salad - the cucumber was good, the tomatoes weren't. Mushy tomatoes are disappointing tomatoes. The bread - the bread at Georgian Bread was great! I guess it better be, amiright?

Yelp
*SCAM ALERT* Although there's a scam going on there, I'll start with the food. We ordered a lot so I get some ideas about the food there. The two good things on the menu are the khachapuri Adjaruli and the whole roasted chicken (of course it is not mentioned it was Cornish hen). We ordered 2 kebabs (skewers) one with chicken and the other lamb, the chicken was huge pieces of breast, extremely dry and tough. Could slice it with a lunch meat slicer for sandwiches. The lambs were the same, super hard and overcooked or maybe it was a piece that doesn't fit the grill. The fried mushrooms were ok, the veal was also just ok, the fried potatoes we ordered never made it to the table so I don't know, the "fresh salad was tomato quarters and big thick slices of cucumber and onion, not much of a salad. Now, to the scam... when we got the check, I noticed that all prices are higher than the prices on the menu, not an online menu, not a menu on Yelp, a printed menu given us by the waitress. When I asked her about it she said "yes, all prices went up 20% as mentioned on the front page of the menu" in addition, the added $15 service fee, not sure what that was but I took it as a tip. Now, you're too lazy or cheap to print new menus, ok, no problem, make sure the waiters TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS THE PRICES ARE 20% HIGHER THAN INDICATED, don't add a little note on the front page of the menu. This is a dirty scam and a filthy way to treat your customers, I've been to many Georgian restaurants, and one of my favorite food, I'll never come back to this place nor I'll ever recommend it to anybody.

Yelp
Very authentic Georgian cuisine. You can tell when most people going to that restaurant are actually from Georgia! Will recommend a few plates to share so you can try different plates and flavors. Big portions and everything very tasty.

Yelp
I have always loved this restaurant but at my last visit I was sad to learn that they charge a 20% service fee which does NOT go to the waitress. So if you want to tip the waitress, you will basically be paying a 35-45% extra on top of the bill.

Yelp
One of the most racist places I've ever been in, they had plenty of open tables but they looked for reasons not to seat us. Had us wait for a while to say we will have to leave in an hour because they have a reservation at 8pm. Table isn't reserved because they could just easily wait for the previous customers to leave and wait on new tables. I was so upset over it because I actually like this place and usual do take out. But wanted to sit and enjoy with my family and teach them about new food and culture. Unfortunately the behavior of the staff was very unwelcoming, we ended up leaving. Did not feel welcomed at all. 1 star was given because of the food, but everything else doesn't deserve it. Staff didn't even put on gloves, wearing mask exposing their nose. Hopefully they fix it soon because any further exposer. Hand sanitizers was not everywhere. Won't be back here again

Yelp
Kachapuri! Delicious and hard to stop eating! Several other interesting and delicious offerings at this northeast Philly restaurant, too. Also highly recommend the mushroom and cheese dish as well as the extra large soup dumplings. Only complaints are that, while the service was friendly, but was slow. This was because the two waitresses were very overwhelmed with a party downstairs as well as a full house on a Saturday night. The other complaint is that much of the food was VERY salty. Otherwise, a fun experience.

Yelp
I'll be honest, I think my family has ordered actual meals from this place a total of once. I can't remember how it went, but what I do remember and know is that the bread from here is so good that it's worth visiting this restaurant occasionally just for it.

Yelp
Georgian Bread Cuisine on Bustleton Avenue in Northeast, Philly, is an excellent deli/restaurant specializing in the very interesting and tasty kitchen from this small nation in eastern Europe on the Black Sea. That these people thrived as a gateway to Asia for more than a thousand years is both an important historic fact and an exceptional cultural phenomenon that is a great benefit to everyone. After dinner there it was fascinating how their food captured elements of all the Silk Road traffic that brought the food from the far East and West through Tblisi and other ancient cities, leaving their diverse flavors and skills behind. Everything we sampled reminded of dishes eaten in other cooking styles. The eggplant with walnuts, with its mildly bitter nightshade base and soft sweetness from the ground walnut hummus-like spread, took me to Middle Eastern and Greek houses. The adjaruli bread boat with its tender hot dough split open on top to expose a lake of molten cheese and raw egg, came right from an oven that looked similar to a tandor Indian oven, and easily reminded of an Italian calzone, only more cheesily delicious. Finally, the khinkali soup dumplings were larger versions of Shanghai xiao long bao, complete with steaming beef/pork consume and flavorful filling, and eaten by hand. Whether it was Marco Polo or Ghengis Khan bringing these ideas on their travels or conquests, or anyone else along the way, this Georgian restaurant continues the culinary exchange between East and West, and is awesome food for both taste buds and anthropologists.

Yelp
Service is much improved and they have tweaked the menu a bit. All the breads are of course still the stand out winners here made in the traditional oven on full display as you walk in the entrance.

Yelp
Bread and cheese is always a winning combination. When I saw the photos posted here of the cheesy goodness, I was easily persuaded for a visit. Don't worry if you don't know nothing about Georgian food! Everything we had was good. I think most people come here for the cheese bread varieties, which are quite tasty, but the thing that really impressed me was the variety of delicious dishes at Georgian Bread Cuisine. Of course we got the bread boat with the cheese and egg. You tear off pieces from the edge of the bread and dip them into the cheese and egg mixture in the center of the bread boat. I enjoyed it, but the bread itself tasted a lot like the dough of an inside out or a calzone. Not a bad thing, but just not what I was expecting. It was like a really nice white pizza. My favorite dish was the mushrooms in a clay pot with cheese. They had a lot of depth and flavor were well seasoned and topped with fresh dill. The eggplant salad full of tender eggplant and roasted peppers. The fried seasoned chicken was good, but just typical fried chicken that you can find at a lot of places. We had to wait a while on this one because they sold out if he prepped ones. Looking at a nearby table, I think going with a kabob might have been a better choice. Don't forget that they have some interesting soft drinks! There is Georgian Lemonade in some different varieties. It's more like a citrus soda. I had the tarragon which had a nice herbal flavor, and while sweet wasn't cloyingly so. It was colored like lime jello green, so if you have an aversion to food coloring you might want to avoid that one though. Service was prompt and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Don't forget to make a reservation. I will return for those mushrooms and to try the other bread and lemonade varieties!

Yelp
Never had Georgian cuisine so got my family to come try this place with me and was not disappointed! The place has a cozy neighborhood feel but with a pretty nice, well decorated interior, and was packed when we came in for lunch on a weekend. Luckily, they were able to accommodate us and set us up downstairs. Of course their specialty is breads, especially the cheese-filled khatchapuri, so we had to get one of those; it came super warm and fresh, with an egg cracked over and mixed into the molten cheese right at our table. The bread and cheese were awesome, so simple but so tasty together. We also tried the veal ojakhuri (veal chunks fried with potatoes onions and herbs) which was meaty and filling. I'm not a big pickle fan, but my dad got the pickled veggie platter as a side and seemed to like them. The khinkali (thick dumplings filled with juicy, almost soupy ground meat and herbs) were surprisingly flavorful, meaty, and full of herbs that give it a fresh and interesting flavor profile. Our last entree, the chkmeruli (chicken cooked in milk, garlic, and coriander) was surprisingly good, with the juicy and crispy skin chicken floating in the refreshing, slightly creamy milk sauce. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the kharcho meat soup, which could've used a bit more flavor. Overall, for my first time trying Georgian cuisine, I was super satisfied and super full! Everything here definitely felt fresh and home made, and I can't wait to come back and try some of their other bread specialties and meat dishes.

Yelp
Ok place. Nice food. Used to be very good but now it's streamlined and lost some of its quality. Still good though.

Yelp
The authenticity level of this place can only be described by the 2 middle aged men at the table next to us who drank almost an entire bottle of vodka while sitting next to us. We BYOBed, but also really enjoyed some of the Georgian juices -white cherry, sour cherry, and apricot juice which just tasted like the syrup from a can of peaches. These would probably actually be really good with vodka. We had trouble flagging down our waiter for water/glasses, etc, so ended up at the deli counter next door buying some sparkling water that tasted like alka seltzer. I've never had Georgian good before, but it was really great. DO NOT MISS THE KHINKALI. They are like big thicker skinned Georgian cousins of the Asian soup dumplings you're familiar with from Dim Sum Garden. Ours took forever to come out to the point where we were stuffed and wondered whether they were coming at all, but they were worth the wait. True to it's name, the Georgian Bread is also amazing. The cheesy one is reminiscent of Domino's cheesy bread in the best way possible. We also really enjoyed the yolky egg one. We tried a number of things and really liked the assorted pickles, eggplant tomato dish and the veal. The lamb kabob was good too. We were not as big of a fan of the chicken livers (a little dry) or the eggplant with Walnut and the garden salad was pretty plain (no dressing) but nice to have some veggies for an otherwise meat and cheese heavy meal. There were also enough vegetarian dishes for our vegetarian friend (although one of these was a rather large vase of beans). The service, as mentioned, was a bit hit or miss (they missed a dish, and we missed our waiter refilling our water). Definitely recommend for an authentic Georgian food experience! Don't forget to BYOVodka!

Yelp
This place is the go to spot for when you want something sweet in the Sumerton area. U buy it by the pound and the price is very reasonable. It's not the same generic tasting cake or desert. It tastes very unique and not overly sweet.

Yelp
Unbelievably delicious, wanted to shop at netcost, so just find a place nearby to eat. When parked, smelled so good from outside, so just walked in. Ordered eggplant, adjaruli and Knikali. All very good!!! Though it's far away from the city, definitely will visit again!!!

Yelp
Was introduced to Georgian Bread Cuisine by colleagues while on a business trip- first time eating Georgian food and it was absolutely fantastic. We ordered a multitude of dishes, but the winner by far was Adjaruli, an oven baked soft bread filled with cheese! So soft and delicious. We also had the assortment of walnut 'salads': beets with walnuts, spinach with walnuts, and eggplant with walnuts-- all mashed and rolled in balls. A little unusual, but very good. Also recommend the khinkali-- the Georgian version of soup dumplings but on a much larger scale. The only dish I wasn't a fan of, was a chicken dish in walnut sauce; while from a flavor standpoint it was quite flavorful, it was served cold which was unexpected. I likely would've enjoyed much more if it was a hot dish, but understood this is likely the way it was meant to be served. This definitely won't be my last time trying Georgian cuisine, and happy to have had this location been my first.
