Wood-Fired Pizza and Pasta Fuel Carlsbad’s New Italian Kitchen - Eater San Diego

"A new Italian restaurant that’s coming to The Square at Bressi Ranch in Carlsbad where it joins of growing roster of eateries including Casero Taqueria, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, and Mendocino Farms, will feature wood-fired pizza and freshly-made pasta. Named Giaola’s Italian Kitchen, it’s by the Grand Restaurant Group (GRG), which also operates Bellamy’s in Escondido, Rancho Santa Fe’s Nick & G’s, and The Ranch at Bandy Canyon in San Pasqual. Sandra DiCicco, who runs GRG with her daughter Gianina, has deep roots in Italian restaurants; in 1956, her family opened the first DiCicco’s in Clovis, California, which now has locations around the Central Valley. The time-honored traditional recipes brought from Italiy by the family will be the foundation of the menu at Giaola’s Italian Kitchen. Scheduled to open this November, the 3,000-square-foot restaurant includes a 930-square-foot patio." - Candice Woo

Real gem in Carlsbad, love the atmosphere, and the food is awesome. Check out the BAR and try the Martinis. My favorite place to relax and have a meal and drinks w ith friends. Great wine selection!

Google
Pleasantly surprised, really wasn't expecting such a solid meal. From the massive portion (finally Italian spot doing it right) to flavor of the balanced sauce to quality of chicken and thick rigatoni pasta, I loved it. The added crumbled sausage was also tasty, the added meatball was fine but not my favorite. A nice sized soft and warm loaf of bread to sop the sauce made me a happy camper. Even the tamper proof delivery bag and red pepper flake packets shows they are thinking of it all. I would say $40 is a little pricey for one dish with added protein BUT I really can't complain when you consider the portion... I have leftover for lunch tomorrow so it's actually a deal! Will be a go to spot for me when up here.

Google
I highly recommend! Great place to eat an Italian meal. -Outside seating you can bring your Pup. Inside gets a nice breeze, it’s appealing to the eyes. -Drinks were delicious; I had the Raspberry Mint Press. Good presentation, but flavor was delicious. -Appetizers we had were, their freshly cute bread loaf with what tasted like fresh butter, Bruschetta, An Artichoke cooked to perfection with a addicting dipping sauce. -Wedge salad and homemade blue cheese dressing.. delicious again. -Main course for me was their ham and pineapple calzone w/ marinara sauce on the side. I didn’t love my calzone, it was ok but to much dough to ration of ingredients inside and it was a tad soggy because of the pineapple. My Daughter had the Spaghetti meatballs and that was very flavorful and great portions. Pizza was a thin crust and cooked perfectly and had a great seasoning on top. All and all we’ll go back. What made our night though was our waiter who was also the bartender. He was attentive to our needs and was helpful; plus our drinks were delicious.

A Culinary Revelation at Giaola Italian Kitchen: A Top 5 Dinner Experience My recent dining experience at [Restaurant Name] left an indelible mark on my palate, catapulting it to the ranks of my top 5 dinners for the year. Nestled in the heart of the city, this establishment proved to be a culinary haven that exceeded all expectations. Despite visiting on a weeknight, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy as coworkers gathered to unwind over drinks and food. Opting to sit outside, even amidst the rain, added a unique charm to the evening, complemented by the cleanliness and impeccable organization of the venue. However, parking proved to be a slight challenge, with some of my companions having to trek a block or more to find a spot. From the moment we stepped in, the warmth and friendliness of the staff set the tone for a memorable evening. Our waitress, in particular, deserves commendation for her exceptional service, effortlessly catering to our party of 15 with speed and grace. Another staff member also lent a hand, ensuring that we felt well taken care of throughout the meal. Now, onto the highlight of the evening – the food. Our culinary journey commenced with the Meatballs Al Forno, tender morsels bathed in a cheesy marinara sauce bursting with flavor. The Grilled Whole Artichoke, while not a personal favorite, was elevated by a delectable dipping sauce, adding a burst of tangy goodness. The Caprese Summer Roll, a creative twist on a classic, offered a refreshing interlude, though it didn't quite captivate my taste buds like the other dishes. However, the Three Cheese Garlic Bread proved to be a comforting indulgence, with its soft, cheesy goodness. Finally, the pièce de résistance – the Herb Crusted Shrimp served over Taranto Risotto. While the shrimp were slightly overcooked, the star of the dish was undoubtedly the risotto, a symphony of flavors featuring prosciutto, peas, mascarpone, and roasted tomatoes. Each bite was a revelation, showcasing the chef's mastery in blending ingredients to perfection. In conclusion, Giaola Italian Kitchen delivered a dining experience that surpassed all expectations, leaving me eager to return for more culinary delights. With rave reviews about the Jidori Chicken Piccata echoing in my ears, I have no doubt that my next visit will be equally unforgettable.

The ambience is great! They have live music and great outdoor seating. The food is always good, but on the more expensive side and they need more variety on the appetizers side of the menu. They made a mistake on our bill and charged more for the second drink even though they were both the exact same drink but we didn't realize it until we had left.

This place was amazing. Kids and I walked in thinking it was a casual Italian pizza place. Yet the fancy and super welcoming staff made us feel welcomed, casual and warmed us up with great mouth melting bread and butter. Restrooms clean, tables, bar, outside and inside clean and prideful. Our pizza, spaghetti and blonde draft was delicious. Bryce was so nice friendly and love his smile. Definitely coming back to try some of their wine and other pasta plates.

Google
Love everything about here. The service is great. The staff and management are always so friendly. We always sit on the outside patio, which is dog friendly (another plus). The freshly baked bread is spectacular and we usually get multiple services. The chicken parm is my go to, and its a big portion of chicken so you will likely have leftovers. One of my favorite spots in Carlsbad and truly is a must go to spot.

Google
Poorly understaffed. Ordered one drink and had to wait nearly half an hour. Had two orders of carbonara, waited 45 minutes and when they finally arrived, both were extremely dry. Our server was wonderful and arrived with two new orders. However on the way out, a brief conversation with the assistance manager showed that he was rude and did not care how our experience went. If you're wanting a positive place and decent food, this is NOT the place for it.

Yelp
This is my fourth or fifth time bring business clients for lunch and again they didn't disappoint! I don't understand any of the negative comments. I've been here for multiple dinners with my husband and even used their private space for an event. Everything I have ordered is delicious and the staff are genuinely glad you're there!

Yelp
Had a reservation on Mother's Day. When we arrived, we were sat right away. We went to the bathroom and the sink on the right was not working and the sink to the left was so scalding hot, steam was coming out. Luckily I touched the water before my toddler. When we sat back down, we let the host know we were ready to order. She let us know she would tell our server. Our server never came. No one acknowledged us. About 30 min later, the manager, Jose V, noticed us and came to take our order. He was very friendly and even interacted with my toddler. Considering it was Mother's Day, it didn't take long for our food to come out. They made a mistake on my sister's salad, however Jose fixed the problem when he came to check in on us after our food was delivered. The rest of our dining experience, we had no clue who our server was. No one even made eye contact with us. I finally asked the host if she could get us the check. She told us she would let our sever know. Our server never came with our check. We finally asked to speak to the manager Jose, and I informed him of the horrible dining experience. I was livid and he could tell. Jose responded very appropriately, very apologetic, and beyond friendly- which I appreciated. We were told there was a miscommunication and our server did not know we were her table. That was confusing because who was the host talking to every time she told us she would tell our server? The person who was supposed to be our sever ran into my sister in the bathroom and apologized. If it wasn't for Jose V, I would have given this place a negative rating if I could. Thank you Jose for taking care of us. Thank you to the kitchen staff that had our food out fairly quickly on Mother's Day. Thank you to the server who did end up apologizing in the end.

Yelp
Such yummy Italian food!! The meatballs are delicious and I love the flatbreads and chicken picatta. The service is always impeccable. We love to sit on the patio and listen to the live music. Such a great date night!!

Yelp
Wow! What a great meal! This dinner made my top 5 dinners for the year. We stopped by here on a weeknight to have some drinks and food with coworkers. We sat outside in the rain and it was pretty nice. The place is very clean and organized well. The parking is not great. I was lucky to find a parking spot, but a few coworkers had to walk a block or more. I didn't get any drinks, but I heard they were very good. The staff is very friendly. Our waitress did an amazing job. There were 15 of us in the party and she was very fast and friendly and made the night really great. We had another staff member come over and help us also. Very well served. The food was so good! We started with: Meatballs Al Forno - very well cooked and lots of flavor. They are served in a cheesy marinara sauce and were very good. Grilled whole artichoke - This was ok. The artichoke seems to just be boiled and not much grilling. The dipping sauce was very tasty. Caprese Summer roll was ok. Not a favorite of mine. It was a salad in a roll and the balsamic was good. Three Cheese Garlic bread was soft and cheesy and good. And the main course was.... Herb Crusted Shrimp. It was breaded shrimp over a Taranto Risotto with prosciutto (says crispy but wasn't), peas, mascarpone and roasted tomatoes. The risotto made the dish amazing. The shrimp were a good size and slightly overcooked but not bad at all. The combination of ingredients in the risotto was prefect. Overall a really good meal and I will be back for more!!! I heard the Jidori Chicken Piccata is the best.

Yelp
Cocktails are a 5, ambiance a 4, service a 4, food a 3.5. Martinis here are the best and Bryce always served them up with a friendly smile, but I recently learned that he has moved to Alejandra's (apparently owned by same company). Had dinner here once, to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I had the market salad with salmon and it was pretty tasty. However several people in our party had different pasta entrees and they all reported "just okay". That was disappointing for a place that makes their pasta from scratch. I probably won't go back for lunch/dinner, but will be back for a happy hour martini. The acoustic style live music is a nice touch but I think they could draw a bigger crowd with a fun band at happy hour. It's a great location in Bressi Ranch, with lovely decor, beautiful bar, pretty evening light views...so I hope they can stay in business. I have never seen the bar or restaurant full so that has me worried.

Yelp
First time here, not too busy for a week night dinner. The ambiance on the back patio was nice. They have heat lamps up top, so it wasn't so cold sitting outside. The service was a bit slow as there were only a few servers. However, our server was very friendly, welcoming, and considerate. Very pleasant service overall. The bolognese was delicious per my coworkers. My jidori chicken piccata was a bit on the salty side. The broccolini was cooked appropriately though. The chicken was the saltiest, so I couldn't finish much of it. Overall, good ambiance and fairly good food.

Yelp
My friend and I went for happy hour to check it out. Surprisingly, this was my first time because I had tried several times before when they first opened (just before covid) and they always seemed to not be available-- i.e. closing at 8:45 pm when my husband and I wanted to get a drink or during covid, and now was a great time to see how it fits in our neighborhood. I liked the full bar options so that we could try something adult beyond wine and beer. Our cocktails were fresh and well-balanced. We ordered a few small shareable dishes like the caprese with burrata, my friend ordered garlic bread with a side of ragu. We finished it off with some crispy fritters that are dipped in a slightly sweet mascarpone and cinnamon- so addictive!

Yelp
Giaola's is alright! It's beautifully decorated and the staff are always great. I had my birthday dinner here and they were very kind and we all had a great time. I've tried several pasta dishes and none have really wow-ed me yet, which is disappointing because they tout their homemade pastas but I really can't taste the difference. The live music is usually just a single local artist, I think it would be cool to have bands or larger groups play (especially Friday-Saturday) as sometimes the vibes are a little quiet and dull for the space. There was a musician once that just pressed beat boxing music keys on his computer while live streaming on twitch and it was really strange. The best thing on the menu are the cocktails!

Yelp
Although I have walked past several times, this was my first time dining here. I was really impressed with the quality of the food, the helpful and friendly staff, and the decor. Since it was our first time, we weren't sure what to order. But our waitress did a fantastic job of making recommendations. We ended up choosing dishes that were her favorites, and they were fantastic. I definitely recommend the fresh burrata and the whole grilled artichoke for appetizers. We shared both - the burrata was soft and came with these beautiful and tasty balsamic pearls, and super soft focaccia bread. The artichoke is boiled and then grilled, and comes with two different sauces - highly recommend. We had two different pastas for dinner, both of which were excellent. But I didn't get a chance to try one of their pizzas. Or a salad - I saw so many people getting salads with chicken or steak on top. I'll save that one for next time. We definitely went overboard when it gets to desserts as we ordered three of them. But all three were really good so I'm not sure which one we would've left out. Tiramisu and Affogato were both outstanding, but it was the one that I wasn't expecting to be great, that was our favorite, the bread pudding. Trust me, it's worth saving room to get this dessert. I would definitely go back here. It's a definite 5/5 as far as food and service and friendliness is concerned.

Yelp
Don't underestimate the salad!!! Authentic gourmet Italian food! But even the salad is ten steps ahead of the competition. Small town vibes. Friendly staff. What can I say. Keep it simple and classy. Most nights Fri-Sat amazing acoustic music to keep you coming back. Gabriel rocks

Yelp
We have been here many times since it opened and I consider it a consistently good option. We have never been horribly disappointed and if there are issues they always do what is right. Their servers have all been very nice and they have been especially helpful and patient with my 90 YO mom when she joins us. We also love the patio and the fact that we can bring the dogs. I see a lot of door dash complaints and can't comment on that.

Yelp
This is such a cute date night spot. I love the lively ambiance and they often have so many great live musician performances here. So that's what drew me in. Unfortunately, nothing else is good here. The "Italian" food is terrible- I've never had worst Italian in my life- it was a true fail. The dish we got was simple pasta and they seasoned it with so much lemon that as soon as I took a bite, I had to put my fork down. My friend felt the exact same with her food as well. We had kids with us so I tried their chicken tenders and it was good and we also ordered a salad and that was good. The bread they give for free is also good as well. So come here for simple things, like kid's meal, salad... etc but I wouldn't expect anything amazing from their main menu from my experience. To be fair, the whole restaurant inside was packed out with people enjoying themselves so maybe give it a try for yourself and see if it was just my taste buds. Really sad to leave a 3 stars review but food is important to me.

Taylor D.

Yelp
We have been here several occasions and liked it but I don't think we will be back after tonight. We had a school graduation in the family and service as atrocious. I had to get up three times to have water filled, server come, and for the check. The server blamed it on too many graduation parties but the restaurant was 1/3 full. They also took back my order because they thought the salmon they cooked wasn't very good. For these prices, it's crazy to come here. Bottom line: totally understaffed and food is just OK. Not coming back and you should not waste your hard earned dollars!

Yelp
Bad experience with 2024 Mothers Day brunch. We were redirected to Giaola after our original restaurant wasn't able to open for Mothers Day. I thought, "Well, this is a fun chance to try a new place!" Although the restaurant wasn't busy, we had several problems with our service: 1. There were large gaps of time in our server checking in with us. (12 minutes and 16 minutes were two I clocked.) Even though our party was 4 diners, there were other tables of similar or smaller size who got their courses served before us. 2. Our coffee went unchecked and un-refilled most of the morning, until I waved somebody down to go look for a refill warmup. 3. They brought a bottle of sparkling wine to start the brunch, but left it sitting unopened on the table. We had to flag them down 3 times--once to bring an ice bucket, again several minutes later to uncork it, and again several minutes after that to bring glasses for it. The servers kept scurrying away before we could finish our request. We sat there looking at that unopened bottle of sparkling wine for 23 minutes before we got to take our first sip. 4. No one was clearing plates during the long gaps of time between courses. So when staff would show up with several plates for the next course, they just stood there looking confused because they couldn't see anywhere to set the plates down. We had to help gather all the dirty dishes from the prior course, hold them in our laps, wait for the new plates to be set down, and then hand our dirty dishes to staff. 5. After the final delay, a guy who looked like the manager stopped by our table and hurriedly dropped off the check but didn't stick around to ask us how our meal was. And he did not leave a pen. So after another few minutes of nobody stopping by, I got up from my seat and approached the first employee I found, to ask them for a pen. Everybody seemed trained to avoid eye contact, walk quickly past the customers, and disappear into the back of house. If you like "okay" food and lots of sitting around, this is the place for you.

Yelp
My dog and I had a great lunch on the patio. Service was excellent and this caprese was delicious. It is large enough to share as an app. Will absolutely order it again.

Yelp
I thought the food was good, but not great. They seemed disorganized. Some ladies got flowers, some didn't. Some tables got bread, some did not. My partners food was brought well before mine. Very pleasant waiter, but didn't see him much and was almost impossible to get his attention. Most of our service came from flagging down other employees. we will go back and hope they are improving.

Mary H.

Yelp
Food mediocre, pizza was burned two times back to back, pasta was so so, lasagna not bad, the servers were one worse than the other, service horrible.

F.Bruno D.

Yelp
The past 3 times, one or more choices we ordered have been dry or gummy. The service has been slow, and not very receptive to comments about the food.
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
They have a week day happy hour that lasts till 5 pm. $2 off craft cocktails and deals on beer and wine, they also have "wine Wednesday". Started with the Caprese summer roll that was extremely salty, wouldn't recommend. However, the meatball appetizer is VERY good and sits on a bed of polenta. The entree portions are massive! Got the chicken parm but switched out the fettuccine to have Alfredo sauce Vs red sauce. Was delicious and have more than enough for leftovers! Also, was treated to a dessert of our choice as we were celebrating a birthday, chose the cannolis and they were delicious! Oh and I can't forget to mention, the fresh bread is perfectly made and pulls apart nicely.

Yelp
So we wanted to try a new restaurant and we picked this one. We chose Giaola. This restaurant was definitely a treat. Located in the Bressi Ranch area of Carlsbad, there are a number of restaurants in this strip center, so get there a bit early because parking could be a challenge. The restaurant has seating inside and outside and the outside is enclosed with heat lamps, so don't be put off if you want to sit outside. We chose to split a Caesar salad, and the chicken Parmesan. We substituted spaghetti for the fettuccine, and then we asked for a side of meatballs, which I'd highly recommend. Our server, Jenna, was exceptional. She made sure our glasses were full and she made a number of recommendations that we took her up on. So if you're in the Carlsbad area, give this restaurant a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Judi Don C.

Yelp
After reading the other reviews I find it hard to believe we were at the same restaurant. Walked through the door at 4PM was seated and our order taken about 4:10. About 4:45 received our salad and after a couple inquires our meals were served at 5:10. the Carbonara was not eatable and was retuned the replacement was not much better, The lasagna was dry with very kittle sauce. Overall this was a very disappointing Mothers Day Celebration. When our concerns were brought to the attention of the Manager, he all but called us liars about the slow service. Felt very sorry for our waitress you could tell she was sorry and apologized several times. It cost nearly $200.00 an expensive lesson learned.

Nate W.

Yelp
Our server was great and they're very respectful but ... went on Mother's Day for a reservation at 7:30, but the food wasn't very good... mushy pasta tasted off which I should have known better to stop eating ASAP. I got the Scarface pasta and my wife got the lasagna. Both dishes were super bland and I started feeling sick almost an hour or two after eating the Scarface pasta, I have been throwing up since and have E- coli poisoning. Do the cooks not wash their hands ? Absolutely disgusting .

Yelp
Great service and great food! I tried the garden veggie pizza for lunch. It was so delicious!

Yelp
FINALLY made it to "Giaola" in Bressi Ranch‼ VERY pleased and impressed. Loved the various seating area choices. My friend and I sat at the bar and watched the activity. Bryce serves up a delicious Aperol Spritz and the house Chardonnay was "Weather". I enjoyed them both!! We split an appetizer of an AMAZING bruschetta. It's a bit messy because it is sooo loaded with goodness. Be careful eating it! Next we split the Caesar Salad. Velvety deliciousness and just the perfect amount. And, finally we split a starter order of meatballs in marinara sauce on top of creamy polenta. HEAVEN‼ We had no room for dessert and unfortunately we left just before the live music was to begin at 6:00. We will definitely be back‼

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Amazing staff! They are always friendly and makes you want to come back. They have live music on the weekends, which is a huge bonus! They have indoor and outdoor seating. Food is ok but drinks and service make up for menu choices. But keep in mind I don't eat red meat but the meatballs everyone raves about them.

Yelp
Great food and wonderful atmosphere. Service was awesome. We had the Scarface and the Spaghetti and Meatballs, as well as garlic cheese bread and they were all phenomenal!

Yelp
I cannot imagine ever eating here or ordering from here again. I got Carbonara delivered by Door Dash. It was awful. I don't know what kind of ham was in this, but it was not prosciutto as described. The whole dish tasted like mushrooms which I hate, and there are no mushrooms in the description. It was basically inedible. I just tried the leftovers and it was even worse cold. Super greasy as well. If I had been in the restaurant, I would have sent it back. I also got vanilla bean gelato, which was cloyingly sweet and tasted like bubble gum. It also came in a GIANT plastic bag (pictured) ... It would have been more satisfying to take two $20.00 bills and throw them in the trash.

Yelp
Def get the meatballs. They sit on top of the most buttery and rich polenta. MOUTHWATERING. Pairs well with the garlic cheese bread which I like better than the house bread. My husband loved the herb crusted shrimp risotto. Highly recommend. LOVE LOVE LOVE their giant prawns you can add to their salads. So big and flavorful. Drinks: cucumber basil martini is so refreshing and light. Really lovely cocktail. Beer and wine list is extensive. Ambience: I don't know what it is on Friday nights but I swear it's like a requirement for the patio to have a shrieking baby BUT there's also usually decent live music to drown that out. It's a little hard to swallow that noise when pasta is $30. Love that they're dog friendly.

Yelp
If I could give 10 stars I would. We decided to try Gialoa's for lunch. 3 of us and a pup. We were warmly greeted and led to our great outdoor patio table. It was shaded and there were screens . Beautiful place bar divided from the inside dining room. The asst manager also brought bowl of water for our pup. He was great! I had cheese ravioli the other 2 had Torchio Taranto and The Scarface gluten free pizza and the cheesy garlic bread. The maranara sauce was excellent!!! Everything is home made. We shared a cannoli and it was as good or better than Mike' s in Boston. Go figure? I would highly recommend A trip you won't be disappointed. Our server Sherry was equally awesome!!!!!

Daniel K.

Yelp
We love the new bartender Madi! She's friendly and professional! She made my negroni so perfect! The food was delicious as well!

Yelp
I recently came here for a department outing with a party of 12 and everything from start to finish was nothing short of amazing. The charcuterie board was beautiful and had such an array of various cheese, nuts, fruits, etc. On our menu we had bruschetta, meatballs al forno and Caesar as starters. There was SO MUCH food but we were completely ok since we had expectations of taking some food to-go. For our main entrees, we had chicken piccata, bolognese al forno, and herb crusted shrimp orzo. Everything was so thoughtfully executed and the serving size was huge! The staff was super accommodating with to-go containers and I never had to wait for someone to refill my water. They continuously asked us how everything was going and we ended our meals with a delicious cannoli. As a side note, I had been planning this reservation since last November and due to Covid, I had to reschedule countless times. They remained flexible and held my contract until I was finally able to schedule the official date. We originally had reservations for 2:45 but we ended our department's first activity a little early. I called and Giaola was able to bump up our reservation to 2:15. Thank you so much everyone at Giaola for allowing us to end our day with happy and full stomachs! Overall, it was a great experience and I would come again during my personal hours with my family.

Yelp
Place was good. Like an average, good, Italian place. They have the essentials. Food is fresh and they seem to have live entertainment on some nights. Friendly service and all. A star knocked off only because it wasn't memorable enough for me to want to come back. If you like Italian food, then by all means, you should definitely try this place out. Otherwise, I wouldn't have remembered I ate here until I saw my check-ins again
google avatar

Yelp
While the food was reasonably decent, my experience was marred by the painfully slow service. It's unfortunate when the culinary experience is overshadowed by the frustrating wait times for service.

Yelp
We had lunch here today. First class operation. The food was fantastic best we have had in a very long time . JC was our waiter and was so accommodating and an excellent server . Jose the manager was on the scene and truly involved and apart of things , very nice person and well suited as assistant manager . He came to our table visited and filled us in on the history of the three years in operation. They are in a beautiful area if Carlsbad with lots of cool places around them From start to finish we LOVED the place and the food and staff. It will now be on our go to place I give it 10 stars

Yelp
My family and I are in town for my son's soccer game and we randomly picked this restaurant and we were very pleasantly surprised by how great it was! The service was wonderful and were the only ones there. It was beautiful on the patio and very relaxing. The food was very good, everyone liked their meal which never happens in my family! I would certainly recommend.

Yelp
Deciding between 2 or 3 stars. The live music helped to round up to 3. The food is mediocre at best, but way overpriced for what you get. My expectations were severely let down as the food quality did not match the wonderful ambiance of the restaurant. This was our first time to Giaola and we didn't know what to expect. The hostess that welcomed us at Giaola was super friendly. She sat us quickly and let us know there would be live music (Sunday evening) if we sat outside which sounded great. After we were seated the waitress greeted us and got some bread. The bread came out with no butter or oil or anything. After further looking around other people received butter, but we never got any. I ordered an Italian Syrah wine which was by far the best part of the meal. We ordered the Caprese Summer Roll for a starter. This was hard to eat since the balsamic was drizzled. Normally would eat a summer roll with my hands but didn't want them to get sticky and it was hard to eat with a fork. It tasted okay, but there was such a small amount of prosciutto it was lost. Wouldn't order again. I also got the Giaola Trio (ravioli, spaghetti, lasagna) with the added meatballs. This also seemed overpriced for the portion. I got 3 tasteless ravioli. I think they were supposed to be filled with cheese but it was 90% noodle. The spaghetti noodles were WAY over cooked and the sauce tasted like it came from a jar. There was tons of water in the bottom of the dish which I am sure didn't help. It also wasn't hot, just warm-ish. The meatballs were not bad, but I don't think I will order again. Lastly, the lasagna which was the best of the 3. It actually had some flavor from the cheese. The whole dish just tasted like it was recently reheated and some parsley thrown on top. Overall the service was okay. Our waitress seemed a little overwhelmed. Just happy they had the contactless checkout so we didn't have to wait for her to process the card.

Yelp
Spent a fun Friday date night here and I must say the service and live entertainment was impeccable. Eldrinn was our server that night and offered so much insight on the menu. Honestly, everything he recommended was absolutely amazing! He went above and beyond by making our drinks personally! You can tell a lot about someone who loves, enjoys and is very enthusiastic about their job and he was all of it with a cherry on top!

Yelp
Came in Friday night for dinner with a friend, Eldrinn, our server was very attentive and friendly. We got the steak and fish special which were both amazing. He also recommended the bottle of wine instead of getting multiple glasses due to it being hypothetically cheaper. Thanks Eldrinn!

Yelp
Small and intimate restaurant. Perfect for dates! They had some live music Friday evening, and a cool breeze coming through in the outside patio. Food was good, matched the price. Our waiter was excellent. Overall, awesome experience.

Yelp
Live music was amazing! We tried to connect with the bartender, and that did not happen! Food was OK. We live locally and we're hoping for more from this local establishment. There is potential from all the staff, but nobody made a connection! I do not feel a need to come back here

Yelp
Came here randomly for lunch with the family. The server was wonderful, very nice and attentive. Food was "ok". We ordered the cheesey garlic bread, Cesar salad with prawns, cheese ravioli and Scarface pasta.

Yelp
I've held off on writing a review since their opening. My first time tasting Giaola was a take out and we had the Scarface pasta (no longer available), the chicken piccata, the lasagna and a couple of the pizzas. I was very impressed because I love the homemade noodles. And the bread and butter was very delicious. Since then we have ordered take out from Giaola at least 8 more times. Each time the food has been hit or miss. A couple of times the bread was over cooked, the Torchio Taranto was all pasta and little of everything else, or the Alfredo chicken was dry. Either way we continue to order because we quite literally live within walking distance down the street so it's the closest Italian restaurant to us. I decided it might be nice to order Giaola for my daughters birthday party. Close by and everyone loves pasta and pizza. My husband called to inquire and the guy who picked up the phone basically couldn't be bothered and rushed my husband off the phone directing him to their website and informed us that they don't open until 11:30 Sunday. Cool. Looked up the website and wanted to put in an order so called back and the guy very RUDELY told my husband he really needs to call back sometime other than dinner. Wow. People want to talk about supporting local. Well forget this place. I don't care if I have to drive miles to go to an Italian restaurant. We won't give our business to this place again. And I'm going to make sure the locals know not to go here either.

Yelp
The food and drinks are always top notch, with plenty of drink options and a nice happy hour every day. Really enjoy the live music entertainment.

Yelp
This was our first visit. Overall we enjoyed the experience. PROS: ambiance, outdoor patio seating, excellent service, wine and beer selection & ample parking. The waiter who served us was excellent!! He really made a difference in our experience. there. I didn't get his name but he was a younger guy with longer hair and glasses. He even took really nice photos of our group. So courteous, friendly and willing. CONS: food and menu The menu is not extensive for the wine list they offer. I wish they had more appetizers to choose from to go with wine. The food was good but too salty for our taste. Carbonara had the flavors of fresh ingredients but the pasta did not taste like al dente coming right out of a pot. The pasta was stuck together when it arrived to the table. My husband liked the calzone but said it was salty. My guests liked their big red sauce mix pasta plate they shared. I thought classic rock was a bit off for the ambiance and a bit loud because we were closed to a speaker in the patio. Overall it was a good experience with great service and nice patio for dinner. We will be back and try different items on the menu.

Yelp
Went here for Valentine's Dinner because we heard good things. Night started off by being told our reservation for the private room was taken so we had to be moved inside. We had our reservation set over two weeks in advanced. After sitting, we got our drinks ordered but no food orders. We waited 30 minutes to even put in an appetizer. We didn't actually get our food until over an hour after our reservation time. Seemed super understaffed. Really bummed out at this experience since we had high hopes for the date.

Yelp
A company party of 17 people. Food was AMAZING as usual and employees very accommodating and we couldn't have asked for a better waiter, very attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable. The weather was cold and rainy so we were concerned when we found out we were on the patio but windscreens and heaters made for a very comfortable evening. The best Italian Food in north county! Thank you Giaola, we'll be back. MCP Computer

Yelp
If you like to drink wine and spirits this is your spot right in the heart on Bressi Ranch Village Center next to BevMo, breath taking views of San Elijo Hills. Get your drink on here !

Yelp
I scheduled a business lunch meeting at Giaola's. The ambiance, service, and food were all spectacular. Options to sit indoors or in a screened in outdoor area were available. Our waiter was very attentive and he was extremely helpful will making suggestions that we're vegetarian-friendly. I got the Scarface pasta dish (made vegetarian and with extra mushrooms since I omitted the chicken) and it was delicious. I would go back again.

Yelp
This restaurant has potential with a few tweaks. The complimentary bread has no flavor, and it is extremely dry. As an appetizer, we had the meatballs al forno with polenta- the meatballs lacked any type of seasoning. The polenta did not have any real cornmeal flavor and was thin to the point of a watered down lightly seasoned meal. Very disappointing. My husband's dish, the lasagna, was very dry, no bechamel sauce, and was covered with an extremely thick tomato sauce, but the layers of meat/pasta were dry, no sauce and no flavor. The meat content was skimpy. My Hawaiian pizza was delicious and so was the cannoli dessert. The mocktails are also very good and service was excellent.
