2021 Best Hotels For New York City

"Forget about tired Nineties minimalism—this place is full of character, right down to the split-level library and champagne bar, complete with fully-functioning books (pages and all) and clubby leather sofas." - The MICHELIN Guide

"This Thompson Street hotel has a lot more personality than you’ll generally otherwise find in the Financial District, as it’s funnily-enough, inspired by an Aspen country house (and more specifically, it's designed by Jim Walrod). The lobby feels a bit like a ski lodge, there’s really good art on the walls, and the beds are topped with tartan blankets. Though its location is a little out of the way if you’re not planning on spending a majority of your time downtown, it’s not that deep into the Financial District and its rates are good for the quality."

Great experience overall. After staying in Time Square for a few days, we changed hotels to Gild Hall. Much more quiet than Manhattan and easier to get around. The hotel staff, specifically the manager - Rob was very helpful and accommodating. He gave a few recommendations of places to eat and experiences to check out and even remembered the previous conversations we had earlier in the stay. The rooms are very clean and food/bar inside the hotel was great. No complaints about the stay at all. Thanks Rob and the rest of the crew for making the back half of our trip enjoyable!

What a great hotel - I genuinely loved it. Easy to get to from the airport via the metro and a welcome arrival despite the late time of arrival. I was treated with a welcome drink and headed off to the room.||The room was spacious, and bed comfy - the only thing is the decor is quite dark but other than that, I couldn't fault it. The bathroom was well appointed, with a shower over tub combination and they had Molton Brown amenities.||The restaurant was fine - not somewhere I would eat a meal as the staff are a bit surely but it was good for breakfast.||Overall a great stay and a hotel I would use again, and I loved the quirky lobby!

Gild Hall perfectly balances luxury and comfort with a stylish, cozy atmosphere. The rooms are thoughtfully designed—clean, modern, and well-appointed with leather accents and warm lighting that create a chic, welcoming vibe. The staff was professional, courteous, and genuinely helpful from check-in to check-out. The location is ideal for exploring Lower Manhattan—just a short walk to Wall Street, the Seaport District, and multiple subway lines. Felice, the on-site restaurant, is fantastic for both breakfast and dinner (great wine selection too). Perfect spot whether you're traveling for business or a weekend getaway. Will absolutely stay here again!

Google
Bigger than a boutique hotel, small enough to feel cozy and personalized. Excellent restaurant on site. The lobby and room decor is a mix of English Gentlemen’s club and mid-century hotel fixtures. Dark and welcoming but not drab. The front desk staff went above and beyond to accommodate our requests. Ben, Simon and Angel will take care if you. Say hi to Mia too - she’s hit a great fur coat.

This is a gem of a hotel tucked around the corner from large roads so it is lovely and quiet at night. The location is perfect for the financial district, 9/11 memorial / historic places and buildings, plus Battery Park and Brooklyn Bridge etc... For the first 2 days everything we wanted to see was within walking distance, then Fulton Station on the subway red line was a 5 minute walk, so easy to go further afield. Very much calmer than staying in midtown and has some lovely places to eat, including the onsite Italian which made breakfast easy and dinner too - which we had on the first night as it was late and we were tired.||Some great bars (Stone Street) and places to eat at all levels were all a short walk away - (Industry Kitchen on the East River, the Greek Bakerie, Manhatta on the 60th floor of 28 Liberty etc). ||Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were offered a Prosecco every evening we arrived back, plus however many bottles of water we needed. The general decor has a New York feel and our room was great - loads of room and double height ceiling which made it feel airy. ||We flew in and out of Newark and the transfer was 35 minutes!! Fantastic compared to every other time I've used JFK.

See my review:||||Good: Great location, cozy lobby, welcome prosecco at check in. Bedroom was clean and beautiful. Bed and pillows are very comfortable. Great toiletries in bathroom. Great restaurant. ||||Bad: Elevator was a bit slow for me. No coffee pot in room. They do offer coffee at the lobby but every time I went to get some the machine was not working. So I would just get coffee at breakfast. ||||The shower curtain drove me nuts. Otherwise, it would be perfect! ||||For the rest of the review see my blog post at https://www.gratefulforliving.com/blog/-the-good-the-bad-and-the-not-their-fault-review-series-first-review-my-stay-at-gild-hall-a-thompson-hotel-a-bonus-a-weekend-itinerary

I rarely post reviews but feel inclined to do so because of the extraordinary service at Gild Hall, as well as comfortable accommodations. It's about 15-18 min walk to Chinatown so tons of food options. The best part of was the ambiance, cleanliness and comfort of the hotel. In a time when many NYC hotels are lacking and under-whelm this one did not. HIGHLY recommend.

Google
We enjoyed our stay at the Gild Hall. The rooms were spacious and the staff was friendly. The room had daily housekeeping, there was coffee in the mornings in the lobby, and you could get a water bottle free of charge at the front desk at any time. The location was central and close to the subway. Since it was in the Financial District, however, a mainly working area, once the sun set, there was very few people on the road around the hotel. When we walked back from the subway at 10pm, we did not feel the safest. This however, was not the hotels fault, and inside the hotel and right outside of it, we felt very safe.

Yelp
Conveniently located near the World Trade Center and the subway station, this hotel combines historic charm with a cozy, dimly lit ambiance. While the public restroom on the second floor could use more attention, the overall cleanliness of the hotel was commendable. The front desk staff were accommodating, storing our luggage when we arrived early and even offering a small water bottle for our departure. Our room was pretty spacious for a NYC hotel, but it didn't feel lux. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the Gild.

Yelp
Room: For an upmarket hotel this was not a good experience. The room itself might as well be inside a Red Roof or Laquinta, so nothing special and also very small. Beyond real glassware for drinking, a minibar filled with overpriced drinks and a selection of overpriced snacks, but no tea/coffee making facilities or a microwave. It's essentially, no different to a cheap motel in any small town. Customer Service: The front desk tells you nothing beyond taking ID, payment and handling over key cards. How about letting guests know their room key is needed to work the elevator, access the front door and no coffee/tea making facilities are in the room, but can be requested. On that subject - Called down to get a coffee maker, including requesting regular and decaf but they only brought regular and they were all fake flavoured stuff. Yuck! To add insult to injury, the coffee maker didn't work so called down again and was told a replacement would be sent up, but it never came (30 min later) before leaving for dinner and a show. No coffee! We returned later and recalled the front desk, because they didn't replace the coffee maker arranged earlier. Response... let me see if I can find another one. Some 20 mins later another maker shows up, so re-mentioned wanting regular (unflavoured) coffee and decaf. Response... we don't have access to any of that. Still no coffee! However, there's coffee/tea facilities in the lobby, but don't expect to get any after 11am because they shut that completely down. Nice! In summary: If a supposed upscale hotel cannot be bothered offering tea/coffee making facilities anywhere, including a microwave in your room then what the hell are people paying so much more for in this sorrowful excuse for upscale. Therefore, save your money because it's no better than any chain hotel, or motel and we've certainly had better experiences at those than staying at this wannabe. We have stayed at some very expensive and luxurious hotels but never had such a lacklustre experience, or come across staff this disconnected before, especially for the additional costs involved. Finally: We've never stayed at a Thompson Hotel before and following this experience, never will do so again. Essentially, if you have deep pockets, planning to spoil yourselves or have low standards then this place is perfectly fine to lay one's head. However, don't expect luxury, a higher standard of service or any better amenities for their extravagant costs, including an extra 'resort fee' for exactly what remains a total mystery.

Yelp
An excellent hotel tucked away in the financial district, next to a few good shops and amenities (Soulcycle, chipotle) as well as most of Wall Street. I checked in on a Monday night and was having trouble with my card (international, fraud flagging etc), and they were super patient with me while we figured out how to get my card to work. They also had an option where I could send an online form to my husband to use his card, it was really smooth and fast and a lifesaver! Otherwise, the rooms are quite spacious with all standard hotel qualities. It's quiet at night in the area, and they have a full restaurant downstairs if you are looking for a bite. The lobby area is not huge, space for about two groups.

Yelp
Ambiance: A Comfort: A Bed: A Cleanliness: A- Customer Service: A+ ---- I absolutely loved my stay at Gild Hall! It has a slightly quirky charm, with quiet rooms that are surprisingly spacious for the Financial District. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the overall room size made it feel much more relaxing than most NYC hotels. On a more unexpected note, there were, erm... adult items...for sale in the minibar. It gave us a good laugh when we discovered them, definitely not something we were anticipating, but hey, Gild Hall keeps it interesting! The hotel is older, and you can tell from some of its features, but I actually found that added to its character. It doesn't feel worn out, just vintage in a cozy way. Some people say it needs an update, but I think it's a matter of personal preference. I enjoyed the aged details, especially the fact that the bathrooms have bathtubs--seriously, bathtubs in a NYC hotel! That was a huge plus for me. The only slight downside is the old-school heating and cooling system. They have to switch between heating and AC, so if you hit an unexpectedly hot day during the shoulder seasons, it can be a bit frustrating. However, the in-room fan worked well, and they even offer portable fans, so it wasn't a big issue for me. The staff were amazing--friendly, attentive, and gave us some fantastic recommendations for dinner and drinks in the area, which really elevated our experience. One of the highlights was the on-demand prosecco. While it wasn't top-shelf, it was free and unlimited, which added a delightful touch to the experience. All in all, Gild Hall was a fantastic stay, and I would definitely come back!

Yelp
We had a splendid stay at the Gild Hall. I think this used to be a Holiday Inn before it closed but I'm glad the Thompson Hotel group took over and revamped it into a sexy, cozy and sophisticated living den. We were able to use our Chase points to stay for our brief stay in NY. While we've been to NY a handful of times we actually had never stayed in the financial district area. We were pleasantly told by our lovely receptionist upon checking in that the area is quiet, safe but walkable. A couple of lovely quirks - I especially love the library staircase next to reception desk and the daily champagne HH. The Italian restaurant attached was great too. Access to major subway lines was super easy, all within 5-6 min walk. There were also plenty of coffee shops and bagel breakfast places to peruse. During our stay on the 12th floor, we never had any noise issues. I slept like a baby in their comfortable king sized bed. Their room was probably the biggest hotel room we had ever stayed in while visiting NY (we had stayed at Yotel a few times...). The toiletries in the bathroom had a nice white tea fragrance, and Water pressure was perfect in the bathroom. Also I went to the gym once but mainly to get water; the gym was very small but had all the equipment one might want to use. I would not hesitate to come back!

Yelp
Fabulous, gorgeous, comfortable. Greeted warmly by staff, not only when I first checked in, but each time I came off the elevator. The hotel room, with its high ceilings and comfortable beds, made me wish I was able to stay for longer than I was. The room was spotless, and has blackout blinds that made for one of the best night's sleeps I've had in far too long! Gild Hall is also connected to one of my favorite Italian restaurants in New York, Felice. It's conveniently located by the 2 and 3 subway lines on Fulton Street, and only a few blocks from a few others. I definitely plan to stay there again and to recommend it to others.

Yelp
Overall: Clean, comfortable, hip, and compact. I would choose this place again for my work trips. Bed - soft but the right amount of support for me. I'd say medium firm. Pillows were too soft but I usually bring my own foam travel pillow to save myself from neck pain. Blankets felt very cozy. Bathroom - Clean. Shower could do with some updates. It didn't quite match the lux feel they were going for. Reason 1: The shower handle was a bit finicky - it would turn scalding hot and icy cold quickly if you don't tap the adjustment just right. It took me a bit to find the right spot. Reason 2: The shower curtain. The curtain magnets weren't strong enough to keep it blowing inwards and getting in my way while I was showering and it was a very light curtain, not heavy in any way. No complaints about the towels - clean and comfortable. Not too rough. Room Lighting - Warm ambient lamps with the option of a brighter warm overhead chandelier. I prefer lamps. Temperature - I liked how I could control the temperature of the room. Space - Lots of counter options to place my stuff despite the compact space. Stylish too. Everything you need without feeling cramped. They also give you two complimentary water bottles, which was nice. Service - VERY welcoming. Five stars here. Friendly and helpful staff. They also offer unlimited champagne, which actually tastes good. Lobby - connected to a restaurant (good food, by the way. I've eaten there back when I lived in NYC).

Yelp
We had the most wonderful stay at Gild Hall. The lobby is absolutely stunning. We smelled the signature Thompson scent with our first refreshing breath. Rob and the rest of the front desk staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. In fact, any of the hotel staff that we came across during our stay were absolutely lovely. We had a great night of sleep as the beds were super comfortable and the rooms are nicely furnished and clean. 10/10 experience!

Yelp
We loved this hotel for a NYC weekend. It was in a good location in lower manhattan. The subway (if you're brave enough to try to figure it out) is close! Service was good. Room was pretty clean! We'd stay again!

Yelp
From the moment we pulled up to Gild Hall, our stay was marked by lovely, friendly people, a relaxed atmosphere, and a completely smooth experience. We'd had a harried and tense drive into the city, with lots of rain and abundant traffic. Our valet, Jose, stepped right out with an umbrella to help us grab our things and get out of the downpour. He is a true gem, as we were being harassed by a petty little man who'd pulled up just after us. (I have a wheelchair along with bags to unload.) Once inside the plush, softy lit lobby, we checked in and were offered a welcome glass of Prosecco. And just like that, our stress melted away as we zipped up to the 18th floor. What a beautiful place Gild Hall is. Tasteful, eclectic, sophisticated, with a touch of bygone days when lodging was anything but boring business travel. The attention to detail is absolutely charming. Our room did not disappoint, either: a comfortable and cozy mix of leather, brass, dark woods, and art deco wallpaper that was welcoming and warm despite the wretched rain outside. We had everything we needed, and everything was clean and tidy. If we'd wanted to enjoy a little more fun, there were plenty of extras in the thoughtfully stocked mini-bar closet. Nice touch, though I was in the city for medical treatment, we are determined to return for a pleasure trip. Our stay was beautifully quiet as I had to spend the majority of it in the room--not a hardship in this setting--but the lobby happy hour and Felice restaurant had an electric hum of activity. The whole vibe of Gild Hall is one you sadly find less and less of -- a clever, sophisticated, discreetly fun place centered around the needs of the clientele. We will absolutely return! *I use "discreetly* as in not boorishly nor obnoxiously loud.

Yelp
Great hotel! Great staff! I got jammed up in NY with no place to stay, all of the hotels in the financial district and surrounding were either sold out or selling for 3 X the normal rate (Still don't know why). I walked into the Gild Hall and was greeted by Dalila. I asked her if anyone had cancelled (I knew they were sold out on the site). She said yes we just had one and then.... she gave me the correct rate!!!! They could have easily doubled it on that day. I had lots of questions and requests (like a rollaway bed) etc. and front of house staff Angel and Pam took amazing care of me!! The hotel itself is clean and non-descript there is a 3rd party bar/restaurant that seemed nice. they also had Prosecco happy hour from 4-5pm! The room was the highlight, super high ceilings, comfortable bed and a wonderful rain head tub shower combo. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you Dalila, Pam and Jose, you made what could have been a very stressful day, remarkable! :)

Yelp
We stayed in a suite for two nights on the 11th floor. The hotel is tucked away in the Financial District and little hidden. The lobby is small but nice. The front desk was great from check-in to check-out. The room, was nice but is beginning to show its age however it was comfortable and clean. We stayed here to be close to the Staten Island Ferry for the NY Marathon. If you need to be in the area for the ferries or Wall Street, this is a solid option. The only things keeping this from a 5 star review is the dated bathroom and the noise on Saturday night. There's a couple bars nearby and the crowds leaving were rowdy late into the night.

Yelp
I was sick, had to change my travel plans, and needed to change my reservation. My wife and I called Gild Hall three separate times. Each time, "the manager would need to approve that, he's in a meeting but he'll call you back shortly." Hours later, still: "he's in another meeting, he'll call you back shortly." No one ever called back. I was charged the full price for the reservation, not even an option to change dates for a fee or anything.

Yelp
I had such a nice time at this hotel. It was very boutique, which I loved. I got a glass of bubbly and truffles when I arrived and the room was nice and cool (it was super hot outside that day). The room had super high ceilings and lots of space. The pillows were wonderful and the counter space in the bathroom was great. There's a restaurant with super delicious Italian food downstairs and the location is super walkable. All of the staff members were kind and courteous. And their complimentary coffee is 5 star good. I ordered room service which was prompt and the fruit cup was top notch. I'm allergic to melon and they were ver accommodating.

Yelp
Tucked away on a side street in the financial district, this location is conveniently located a block from subway and within a 15 min walk from the Brooklyn bridge, the World Trade Center, Wall Street, ferries to Staten Island and the Statue of Liberty, and battery park. Ambiance: lovely boutique hotel experience with cute lobby, bikes for rent, umbrellas for loan, and a nespesso machine in the lobby that is available in the mornings. Room: clean, comfy, mask kit provided, hot high pressure shower, can't complain! Especially for the price.

Yelp
12/07/2021 I was so happy to have been able to redeem my Hyatt Free Night stay at a metropolis city. New York is infamous for having an abundance of hotels, but a lot of them either require a handful of points or a high tier capable certificate for redemption. I was surprised to see that this boutique Hyatt property is a category 4 and my certificate was allowed for redemption. This was an exceptional value, because rates all around New York City were climbing from $800+ due to the Santa Convention being in town. Location: roughly a 5 minute walk from the Fulton Street metro station, which is also a shopping and dining center. Not the best station for luggage access especially with the amount of stairs and walkways but certainly better than paying $100+ via ride share from an airport such as JFK. The hotel is located in a quiet alleyway and is roughly a walk-able 8-15 minutes away to the Brooklyn Bridge. First Impression: the interior is very rustic, elegant and welcoming. I love the touches of wood and brown leather accenting the lobby. The front desk is to the right upon entering the glass doors and restaurant to the left. A staircase flanked with wine bottles and books sits in the center with access to the second level where there is another restaurant and public restrooms. Service: I don't believe I was greeted with my Hyatt member status, but that didn't matter since I was happy to be able to drop off my bags (already knowing that our room would not be ready) after a red-eye flight. I had requested a room with two double beds, in which the friendly agent was gladly to assist with. We didn't return to the hotel until later in the evening around 9PM after a day of exploring New York City during the holidays. To my surprise, the agent working the desk at that hour was an acquaintance of mine, and of course that made my stay even more welcoming. Our keys were handed to us, two boxes of chocolates were delivered shortly after, and a bag of bottled spring water were hung on our door (the following morning). The Room: grey, browns, and black outfit the room giving the same rustic atmosphere reminiscent to the lobby. The room was actually a decent size and much larger than other New York City rooms I have stayed in. As you enter the room; to the left is a sliding door closet, and to the right is a bathroom with single vanity, toilet, and shower/tub combination. Bathe amenities are by D.S & Durga. Slippers (thong style) are available upon request, which was great because I brought them to the other 2 hotels during my stay in New York City that did not offer them. The room itself is flanked with a full wall leather headboard with gold arm lights. Up above sits a round chandelier and a very high ceiling, which was the highlight of this boutique hotel room. Both my friend and I agree that this hotel was a pleasant surprise in the hustling and bustling Big Apple. Definitely a hotel worth a return stay.

Yelp
I like the following: - the 1920s - dark look - Check-in was simple. They didn't ask me many questions and only included informational topics about the hotel. It wasn't an entire conversation. That is nice after a long flight. - After I checked in, they called to verify my room was to my liking. Having a verification call was great. I was in a meeting, so I hung up quickly. However, it gave me the feeling that the staff cared. Once I got off my call, I noticed the toilet water was running. I called back to let the front desk know. They sent an engineer up to fix it, and I enjoyed a dirty gin martini at the bar while I waited (this was not comp'ed. I didn't ask cause... com'on) - The bar is nice. They made the martini shaken instead of stirred. I felt like James Bond for at least 30 minutes. I should have packed nicer clothes.

Yelp
I had a three night stay here. The hotel is very conveniently located in the Financial district and a short walk to the Fulton St subway stop (straight shot on red lines from Penn station), Battery Park, Pier 17, World Trade Center with Oculus and 9/11 memorial. Can easily walk across the Brooklyn bridge from the hotel. Really loved the staff here. They were genuinely warm nice people and very helpful. I like the Nespresso machine in the lobby as I'm up early and enjoy my coffee first thing. The hotel room is well appointed, clean and comfortable. I recommend bringing earplugs if you are a light sleeper as there is noise from the street that might wake you. Would be 5 stars except the food at the restaurant was underwhelming esp for the prices. I'd say you could skip eating there unless you have breakfast vouchers or a credit to use. The restaurant staff are great though and there is a happy hour. It can be chilly in the winter given it's a lot of window space so bring a jacket/coat. Also, they are supposed to have bikes and/or give out a code to use a Citi bike for 30 min - asked twice about it but I don't think they have the process down to have the code readily available. These were minor things and I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Thompson Gild Hall was recently bumped to category 5 but luckily we booked early and was still able to redeem the category 4 voucher. It's in a much quieter part of the city, compared to the Thompson Central Park where we stayed the two previous nights. We rarely hear street noise here! (Did hear neighbor taking a long shower thou.) The room is on the smaller side despite we were upgraded to a deluxe king. The bathroom was small but functional. The bath towels were super fluffy. Hyatt globalist breakfast was served in the Felice restaurant on the ground floor. It was basic and decent. There is a nespresso machine in the lobby so don't need to order coffee from the restaurant. (Since the voucher only lets us choose one type of drink.) We enjoyed the walk to Battery Park. It's close to many other tourist attractions and subway station.

Yelp
This property needs a renovation! Dark halls, small dated tacky lobby, rooms very dark and dated. Very unpleasant stay. Hard to believe the price they charge. So many great option in nyc, don't choose this! Elevator is very slow.

Yelp
Great hotel in Lower Manhattan. Many trips to New York but this was my first time staying in this area. The Gild is an excellent choice for several reasons: 1) great service, 2) great location, 3) great rooms that are well equipped, and 3) parking is convenient.

Yelp
Great location and room was very clean and spacious for NYC. Would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
I was so glad that my early check-in request was accommodated and my room was ready @ 8am. It makes a big difference if you have a room after taking a redeye flight... All the employees that I encountered were friendly and helpful. I was offered room upgrade due to my Hyatt elite status, along with all the benefits - much appreciated. I like the boutique hotel atmosphere - unique addition to Hyatt's portfolio. I also enjoyed breakfast at Felice everyday - it looked to be popular among locals (non hotel guests) for Sunday brunch. I will definitely return!

Yelp
This was the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed in, from the lobby to the room. Everything was cleaned and sanitized upon arrival, sheets and pillows were clean, etc. The lobby smelled amazing, like woodsy men's cologne (not sure how that's accomplished every day but I won't complain). There wasn't always a doorman but when there was, they were always courteous; one gave us umbrellas before we went out on a rainy day. My only complaint was the TV; although we don't come to hotels to watch television, it would've been nice to have streaming services available instead of just basic channels to choose from at the end off the day. Overall, we'd definitely stay again.

Yelp
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Gold Hall and the staff, especially Rob and Angel. We took our young children to the city for their first trip and the entire experience was magical. We travel frequently and in the last few years, hospitality and service have been globally lacking it seems even at the most elite properties. This was certainly not the case at Thompson's Gild Hall. The room was immaculate, suggested were offered for quick snacks and kid friendly activities, and the bellman was always posted at the door so we felt completely safe and attended to when walking in and around the hotel. We are several times in the hotel restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Our dinner was ordered Togo as we were running behind for the theatre. Everything was packaged so carefully with kids in mind and their names on their boxes. We all arrived to the show without wearing any delicious Italian food on our clothing. I cannot thank everyone at the Thompson hotel enough for making this trip one my kids will remember for a lifetime. Rob and Angel- you are such special people. May you each be blessed beyond measure and thank you so much for the pride and dedication you bring to work everyday.

Yelp
I think they should replace the coffee machine in the lobby. It swallows pods and sometimes nothing but hot water comes out, it seems kind of wasteful. The lobby is small but kind of nice. There is a attached restaurant for the globalist breakfast which is good breakfast. The WiFi was OK. The location of the hotel is decent you can jog to the Brooklyn bridge very easily which is cool.

Yelp
Elizabeth at the front desk is awesome! She welcomes guests with enthusiasm and takes a sincere interest in her guests. Best of all, I was overjoyed to see Nespresso offered in the lobby!

Yelp
One of the worst stays I've ever had in New York. Really confused by these positive reviews. Wow where do I begin... Impossible to rest because there's a loud metal clanging sound coming from outside every 15 mins and it's all day/night long!!! Yup even at 4am... And if that doesn't keep you up, you can hear the loud fan from the bldg across the street nonstop. Walls are super thin between rooms and to outside. Street noise! There were a bunch of gnats?/bugs in the bathroom...they love that light but this old bldg cant keep them out. The pillows are completely FLAT!!! Stacking doesn't help. You literally SINK!!! Extremely uncomfortable. Some of the staff don't wear masks, even tho the policy on their website says otherwise. Maintenance guy didnt have one knowing he had to come into my room to check something. Filthy room! There was someone's old hair clip and trash on the side of the bed. Even the free water bottles in my room were filthy. The AC is super loud. I'm just glad I didn't stay here during the summer so I could turn it off! If you have Hyatt status, you will need to ask them about benefits. Guy who checked me in did not bother to offer anything until I asked. There aren't many dining or drinking options nearby. I guess people stay here because it's cheap?? But I wouldnt even use my free nights here. I'm so glad I didn't pay for this stay. One night was all I could bare!

Yelp
I've been here before as a guest of the restaurant, as well as the bar as an after-party site, but I recently had the pleasure of staying here as a hotel guest. Looks like it is a Thompson Hotel, part of the Hyatt brand management. Gild Hall is a boutique hotel in New York City, a little bit more upscale and sexier than a typical middle-America chain. Check-in was smooth, service with a smile, and we were offered complimentary glasses of Prosecco... A nice touch of New York City class. Hubs and I stayed on the second floor; interestingly, we actually had to take the elevator to the upstairs restaurant, and walkthrough to a secret door leading to the hotel side, to which there's only a few on our floor. We stayed in a King bed room on the 2nd floor, and the room itself was quite sexy. Leather headboards, leather furniture, and dark wooden fixtures and doors give it an old speakeasy feel. The ceilings were cathedral height, with a huge circular light fixture above the bed. Mini bar is available for an extra charge, and a small sensor light turned on when moving near it, which was convenient if you're grabbing something in the closet at night. The toiletries smelled citrusy and lovely, and the bathroom was very clean & modern. The hotel is walkable to South Street Seaport, Fi-Di, NYSE, the Ferry, and multiple subway stations. Bar and brunch options within the hotel are convenient, depending on if you want to pre-game or looking for a hangover cure. Some of the cons to be noted: Given that we were on the 2nd floor, our view from the window face another building. Also, a tip (having live on Wall St years ago reminded me): due to the proximity of the buildings near you and the narrow streets, you likely won't be able to see sunshine from your room if you're on a lower floor. If you're one of those folks that need the morning light to wake you up, open the blinds before heading to sleep. Sadly, The walls were quite thin, as I was able to hear when someone in the next room turned the shower on! Unfortunately, you can also hear all the trucks on the street backing up in the middle of the night! Lastly, the bathroom comes with towels for single occupancy only, you'll have to ask for more if needed. No floormat towel, either, which makes stepping out of the shower and on to the cold marble floor a little slipper and dangerous (we ended up using the hand towel).

Yelp
This is a great boutique hotel in the financial district. A little hard to find since the streets are so narrow but charming. You get a glass of Prosecco with your check in and the lounge area is very comfortable. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Our room was very nice with great decor. It's on the smaller side... welcome to New York! Our sink was broken and they came up to fix ASAP. Very quick to respond and friendly. Hotel a few blocks from ground zero and large mall. Lots of great restaurants and bars few steps away. Highly recommend if in the city.

Yelp
The hotel has a lot of character and a great intimate bar and library. They cater special events in the library regularly so expect that room to be taken over during the weekends. It's close to the seaport and there are some good food options nearby. The rooms were clean and they offered us free prosecco when we checked in near happy hour. Rooms were not noisy and large, but the showers were loud and you can hear the neighbors when they ran the water. Would definitly stay again though...

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! What a special hotel. The front desk staff (Robert, Johnathan & Jose) were so friendly and nice. A great touch offering guests a glass of prosecco while they check in. We were lucky enough to get one of their suites which was spacious and comfortable! And while we love the restaurant Felice on-site, we also love Harry's Italian a great restaurant across the street. Gild Hall is a fantastic property and the people really made it special. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
-First Impression- Complimentary drinks? Don't mind if I do! The lobby looks like a scene from "Inception", very cool! -Service- The front desk staff was incredibly nice, and very accommodating. After returning from a long night of dancing, my friends and I asked if it was ok for us to take pictures in the lovely lobby (which it was, but hey, had to ask). We even got to play with the staffs dog, which honestly, I don't know where he came from, but he was friendly and cute lol -Price- I'd say pretty good for what you get! -Did Not Like- Stayed here on a cold, late-fall-that-felt-like-mid-winter weekend, so it was very cold outside. It took a seemingly long time for the room to warm up despite cranking up the thermostat to almost 80. -Noteworthy- Front desk staff is great! -Recommended?- Would stay here again

Yelp
Lovely hotel in the Financial District. Nice accommodations, good service at the front desk. Relatively good price. The problem is something they can't control--New York City construction noise. At 10:30 pm, lots of banging still going on. Who knows when it's going to stop. If you are hoping to sleep at night, this is not the place.

Yelp
Not worth of the Thompson / Hyatt branding. Don't expect service here. Full mini bar in the room, but no glassware. Want a wine glass to drink your $60 bottle of wine? That'll be $2.50 "because of Covid"... ok.... Weird how no other hotel I've stayed at in the past year charged for glassware anywhere... Skip this one and spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
It was a pleasant stay but could've been better. I was on the ninth floor and my room was right across the stair. That door to the stair has been opened at least 50+ times throughout the night. It was a very heavy door so you know the sound was ridiculously loud. Temperature in my room was either too cold or too hot. I was waken up couple times at night. My mattress and pillows were too soft. Some young kids constantly banging on their doors in early morning. I have a mixed feeling toward their safety protocol. They sanitized the lobby very often so I felt safe. On the other hand, some didn't follow their protocol. Sign says two people are allowed in the elevator and one of their cleaning staff walked in when he clearly saw two people in it.

Yelp
I really liked the Gild Hall. It was clean, the staff were nice, and the rooms were good. The location is also excellent if you want to be in the Wall Street area.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The best thing about it is the staff. I wish I had recorded their names but really all made our stay so comfortable. The rooms are small but decorated nicely and it is a boutique hotel after all. The restaurant was great - the staff so accommodating there as well. We will be back.

Yelp
My coworker pricelined this last minute for us for a convention we were attending, I was so impressed. The customer service was above and beyond, front desk workers are so so friendly and conversational which is rare to find at NY hotels quite frankly. The room was super clean, I stayed on the 2nd floor (which opens onto the restaurant) they asked if I'd rather wait for a room higher up, I didn't mind at all so I took it. It wasn't a noisy as I thought at all, but I honestly don't mind if it were either. But if you're worried about that, the street traffic at night is minimal. The bathroom mirror lights up which is great for makeup in the morning. The rooms pretty dim when the blinds are closed, even with all the lights on, but that isn't something I mind. Location is good, I walked to go to dinner and shopping the first night. It's about a 20 min walk to popular shopping areas. I'd recommend!

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 5 stars but there were a few things that left me questioning the service here. First, the room was beautiful and as pictured, the problem was having a microwave was pivotal for my stay and there was not one provided. Second, the bathroom toilet was not cleaned and the faucet was leaking loudly. When we took a shower we quickly discovered that there were not full sized towels in the room, it took about 45 min to get some towels delivered. Overall this ambiance is UNREAL and the staff was very friendly, just had a few minor hiccups.

Yelp
Stayed at Gild Hall for a sushi night in the penthouse suite. The suite was so spacious with a gorgeous long table that seats up to 10 people. This space couldn't be more perfect for a party. The best part is once all the guests are gone you have a separate king size room and bathroom with a clawfoot tub to unwind in. The lobby bar and Felice restaurant give the hotel even more character, it's an exciting scene!

Yelp
The hotel staff is gracious , courteous and efficient - Knowledgeable about local restaurants and attractions. The lobby is Inviting, comfortable - a warm and welcome contrast to it's Financial Distric location. Only a short walk to the Brooklyn Bridge, Battery Park, the NY Stock exchange, Charging Bull, the Trade Center Memorial - from this hotel, we walked them all in a single afternoon. The restaurant has a romantic ambience and artfully prepared, memorable dishes. Too bad the European staff in the restaurant is not as warm and gracious as their hotel counterparts.

Yelp
Ok this joint was nuts! I have so much to say about the amazing staff here and the rooms and location. Our room was the king superior room and it had huge high ceilings and amazing modern decor. The king size bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on! We had breakfast at the hotel every morning and let me tell you their restaurant is so amazing that we ate there for lunch and dinner whenever possible! Hand made pasta for dinner and amazing French toast in the mornings not to mention their breakfast polenta with poached eggs Parmesan and bacon! HOLY DEAR LORD! It transported me to I don't even know where. I only have one issue of complaint. The TV's are on a stretch ratio for some channels and since the remotes are locked there is nothing to be done to adjust that! It gets incredibly annoying but meh. We will be returning here hands down! Walking distance to the twin towers memorial site and close to subways also. Out of the busy touristy areas so quiet and relaxing at night and a quick ride of 20-30 mins into time square and all the hustle and bustle of broadway. Don't miss this gem if you're ever in NYC

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. "Has a musky manly smell & vibe" when we arrived staff was friendly but there was no welcome drinks (maybe cause we arrived early) they also didn't really explain where anything was just verify/check us in and gave us room keys. I do like that we were able to check in early as many hotel in NYC you have to wait until 3-4 pm. The library bar was very cool . The room were always clean and fresh i had no problems with it. Nothing look outdated they had a minibar and snacks available even "Thompson toys". I don't know if i would come back stay again but i would definitely recommended

Yelp
As hard as it is in finding a decent hotel at an affordable price in the inner city of New York, Gild Hall was just the location for it. It's a bit on the outskirts, located in the Financial district. Though a bit hidden in between alleys and construction near by, once you step inside the hotel, it is nicer than expected. The interior is very posh and immediately we were greeted by the staff with champagne as welcoming gifts. There wasn't that many floors and the hotel itself was on a smaller scale, but it was perfectly accommodating. The rooms look exactly like it does in the pictures. One of the most important aspect that we check is the bathroom in hotels and it was modern and clean. I guess the only complaint was the water temperature. Our water was literally burning hot! To adjust the temperature you have to keep rotating the lever and it wasn't until our second day we could finally figure it out. What was intriguing was their stash of goodies in the closet. They had water, snacks, and some "adult stuff." Pretty funny how they marketed these items, so if you want some chuckles, check it out. Overall, I really liked Gild Hall. Beats having to get a hotel in Long Island City, where you have to take taxi every time. Gild Hall was convenient for us to walk to the 911 museum, Soho, China town, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Great location and value for your bucks!

Yelp
Stayed here for two days and was so pleased. I must say at first it is a little confusing to find this place especially with gps but once you do you won't be disappointed. So here are my yays!: Once you come in you are greeted with champagne, The elevator works with your room key so if security is an issue for you then this will comfort you, The rooms are beautiful & clean just like the pictures, The king size bed is absolutely Comfortable! You will not want to get out of bed, well at least I didn't. Housekeeping actually came, The hotel isn't far from the train station or food spots if you wanted to get a quick bite & there seemed to bar or restaurant in the hotel as well if you needed something. Also for couples, they did have this box called adult toys & games for purchase. And here are my nays!: There are no full body mirrors or any mirrors in the room except for the regular bathroom mirror. No garbage cans except for a small one in the bathroom. When I went to take a shower it was strands of hair on the bathroom wall as well as in the sink. The view that I had when I looked out the window were windows to another building, so nothing to really look at.

Yelp
Unable and unwilling to bend over backward. Not impressed! Ps absolutely no check in until 3. Plan your day accordingly.

Yelp
We were satisfied with our two night stay. Check in was an absolute breeze, especially compared to other NYC hotels we have visited. We were in our room in mere minutes, and instead of complimentary cucumber water or cookies, they handed out glasses of champagne. Nice touch. The rooms are large, clean, and appear to have been renovated relatively recently. Other notes: + The soaps smell like Old Spice, very musky. I could dig it. + No views out the windows, at least on the 6th floor. + Tiny bare bones fitness center. + Large bed...with a leather head board that had straps on it. Hmmm. + The hallways use the exact carpet from The Overlook Hotel in the Shining, with just a slight change in color. Once you see it, it cannot be unseen. Don't resist that urge to trail behind your loved ones whispering, "Danny's not here Mrs. Torrence." In the end, I recommend it. Not far from a subway stop and plenty of coffee/food spots, plus walking distance to the Brooklyn Bridge.

Yelp
Sadly my experience here was not pleasant. To be fair, I walked in without reservations. Their website was malfunctioning and not loading my payment info. After a long wait behind guests struggling to understand and get a card to not decline for incidental charges I was met with a gentleman that simply told me to book a room online. Yet again I typed in my information and payment only to have the website clear itself at least 10 times. The gentleman offered me a seat before offering to just assist me with booking. After finally getting set up and to my room, I wish I had just walked out. The hotel is dark and dated and my Premium King room was so disappointing. I work in Manhattan and visit weekly. I know rooms can be tiny, these are even tiny for Manhattan standards. My room was musty and from the second I walked in my eyes watered and I started getting stuffy. The AC also wasn't getting cold, just cool-ish air, so trying to relax after a decent drive wasn't happening. My husband met me briefly after a meeting and the exact thing happened to him with some sort of allergic reaction. Not wanting to deal with the unhelpful staff or shuffling around to more dark, beat up rooms I checked us out for a hotel around the corner less than three hours after arriving. I have no idea how people are praising this hotel so much.
