Yelp
I went to Ginko with some friends on a Friday for an early dinner. Since moving to Cleveland I have been desperate to find some high quality sushi. I don't need to look any further. First of all, the vibes are great. It's this teeny tiny underground spot with a giant bar in the center and just a few tables surrounding it. Can it be hard to find? Sure - but I popped in to Dante and they directed me easily. I was concerned I wouldn't feel hip enough because it really is a cool spot, but it is a very comfortable dining experience. The team is so well informed and can guide you through any questions you have about the menu and what you're looking for. Our table thoroughly enjoyed the Spicy Scallop Chips as an appetizer - literally served on a pringle. I also got the Spicy Tuna and Ginko rolls. Both absolutely delicious and fresh. I have been craving a return ever since. If you're looking for a cheap spot, this definitely isn't it, but I felt like the prices matched the quality and experience and honestly expected to pay even more than I did. It's a great spot for a date night or special outing.

Yelp
This place is amazing Ambiance was great, the service was attentive and the food was great. Had shishito peppers with a few rolls. Topped off with great saki. I definitely recommend this place for great food and time.

Yelp
We had to book a reservation here for weeks ahead for a weekend reservation. The restaurant is a small basement room. It looked like the largest table held 6? people. Most was bar seating. Don't let this stop you! IMO, best sushi in Cleveland. The price is high but I can't even blame them. Very good quality and craftsmanship of the sushi. Some meat options as well. I tried the Wagyu and I still think about it sometimes. Come hungry and with $$$, you will have an awesome time!

Yelp
I am a regular at this great sushi restaurant when I am in Cleveland. It is very high quality and also a bit unique verses normal sushi restaurants. In the pictures you will see a sashimi tasting menu which is awesome and a go to. One cool thing they do is fry your shrimp head after your eat the meat. They serve it with green tea salt. If you may be apprehensive, don't be! The head is crunchy and flavorful. Be a little adventurous here to be paid back greatly. You will want more! Also you will see pictures their spicy tuna hand roll. Very nice with great flavor and texture. Finally a mixture of some of my favorites. You pick yours. You cannot go wrong. The space is a bit small which is part of the experience so make a reservation. If you like sushi, just go, I promise you will be very happy!! After reading a few reviews: indeed the parking can be a bit challenging so just be patient. Is is downstairs in a basement so others are right dress comfortable and enjoy the food. Ginko is not fancy. Others have said it is expensive which it is. What they have not offered is a better value alternative. That matters to me personally. Now there was a great place around the corner that at one time probably offered a lower cost but it closed. So again I love this place but do agree you will have to pay for it.

Yelp
Honestly, I was really underwhelmed by Ginko given the hype. I was expecting a more upscale experience given the steeper prices and the restaurant's reputation. However, other patrons around us were wearing tshirts. The rolls were definitely nothing to write home about. The sashimi was fresh, but the flavors were pretty bland. I will say the wagyu and seared salmon belly nigiri were delicious, so I would honestly recommend spending more money on their chef's choice nigiri set or omakase rather than getting their rolls.

Yelp
Fabulous restaurant. Absolutely a delight to see such craft at work with shasmi. Started with onkemo a/k/a Monkfish liver .. very good. We also ordered a variety of shasmi tuna, yellowtail, fluke and tina toro. Absolutely mouthwatering!! Salmon belly, freshwater eel, tobiko! Sadly, ordered the shrimp shasmi with fried heads and the heads did not come fried .. and that's the best part .. all in all it was a nice experience .. $30.00 for onikomo which was not mentioned by Joseph .. again all in all it was a nice experience ..

Yelp
Such a great place with amazing food and cocktails and service. The sushi I've had here is some of the best.

Yelp
We recently moved to Cleveland from New York and were craving sushi. We decided to try Ginko and hoped this would be our go to spot! We ordered some rolls for our children (cucumber/avocado and Ginko roll) and my husband and I tried the sashimi omakase. The rolls were good and my kids enjoyed them. Unfortunately, the sashimi omakase was not great. Lot of pieces were okay but some of the fish tasted old! Although the basic rolls were good and service as great, we will be finding a new place for sushi/sashimi!

Yelp
I REALLY don't want to review this place. I REALLY REALLY don't want to review them here. Because all I can say is they are THE best sushi establishment in the country, bar probably 2, and at 1/3 the price...and I REALLY don't want other people flooding my favorite place on earth. But they deserve the recognition... Where do I even start? I've been to the best sushi places NA has to offer (LA, NY, NV, etc). I've dropped THOUSANDS on sushi dinners and omakase. This place is better than almost all of them. You want a decent priced, delicious, blow-your-mind roll? They got it. You want a mind-melting, luxurious omakase experience that will teach you things? They have it. I used to fly across the entire country 2x a year to eat here. I actually relocated here partially because of this place. I'll let my photos speak for me. EVERYTHING is good here I've worked my way through 90% of the menu over 4 years. Is it cheap? NO. But it SHOULDN'T be. They often fly their fish in from around the globe multiple times a month to make it exotic, and worth your while. Eating here is a gift...Tip your waiter well. They are insanely experienced, intelligent, doting, kind, calm, experienced, helpful, and can teach you a lot about sake and sushi. Enjoy.

Yelp
Warning--it's hard to find. If people hadn't mentioned that this place was in the basement of Dante's, I don't even know where I would've gone. The stairs are all steep and creepy and like, what are you trying to be, a speakeasy? Gimme a break. No parking so be prepared to walk and cruise around for a bit first. The inside is so small it's a joke. There are like 3 or 4 booths and then just the bar area that can seat maybe like 10 people. Came here on a date so I didn't mind the cramped and intimate atmosphere but would be so annoyed with a friend because I would be just in her/his space. The food--okay, the sushi rolls were great. But only 4 pieces?! This is serving control for ants! The happy hour is also a joke. The only thing that was under $10 was a sweet potato roll. Yeah, no thanks. I ain't falling for that. What is an automatic star off is when their menu online doesn't match their actual menu. I was looking forward to their oysters 3-way only to find out from the server that "no...they don't do that anymore..." pssssccccch. But the chef was accommodating enough to do half tempura and half raw. The oysters they used were all the runts of the litter and more fishy than any I've tasted before. Not a huge fan but the tempura version was bomb though. The standout was their green tea cheesecake but again, it was enough for an ant. Definitely pretty and tasty but like...I needed second dinner that night.

Yelp
Ginko has always been on my Cle bucket list, I grew up eating sushi from a very young age because my dad LOVES sushi so when he said I could pick a spot for his birthday dinner this year I knew this was the perfect opportunity, but more than that, it was the perfect experience. Ginko is a cozy little spot with maybe 4 tables and horseshoe type bar. We were thrilled to get reservations to one of the coveted tables. When we arrived the beautiful hostess sat us and got us set up. The warm towels is a nice touch that my dad and husband were so impressed with. We ordered specialty cocktails, I had the Natsu which was like a raspberry hibiscus gin fizz and it was amazing. I am not a drinker but I ordered a second, it was one of the best cocktails I've ever had, and knowing it's there is amazing because finding a good gin fizz is hard! My husband tried two of their other cocktails and enjoyed both! The matcha tequila one was definitely better than the whiskey one, in my opinion, his opinion was the opposite. My dad got their hot sake and my mom ordered a lemon drop which was not on the menu but she enjoyed! Joseph attended to us and he was a delight. He was so charismatic and attentive. We really liked him a lot! He took great care of us, didn't mind when my mom wanted a photo of all of us, and he made great suggestions. The one appetizer he suggested was the best bite of the night! We ordered the oysters, multiple rolls to share and everything was just amazing. Before this dinner I would have said a spicy tuna roll is a spicy tuna roll, but theirs is better than any other spicy tuna roll I've ever had (that's dozens and dozens of others). I tried Uni for the first time, I've always wanted to try it and if you are going to try it, try it at a quality place like this, my dad had had it before in California and was thrilled that this quality matched the west coast! Joseph always set us up with 2 epic desserts. The mango ginger cheesecake was so refreshing, rich and delicious. I savored every bite. My dad hogged the banana chocolate sesame dessert but the bite I had was amazing and I wish I had one all to myself, chocolate and banana is a weakness of mine! The best part: trick candles!!! My dad used to get them for me so it was amazing when Joseph gave them to my dad to continuously blow out! What a perfect experience. We REALLY enjoyed and could not have asked for a more perfect night for my dad's birthday! Thank you Joseph and the whole Ginko staff for such a special memory!

Yelp
Pictured is the toro and truffle. My favorite roll is the negi toro and the miso soup is great as well. Service is always quality. Ginko has a very intimate vibe which makes it a great spot for a date night and my all time favorite sushi spot overall.

Marina S.

Yelp
Friends introduced us to Ginko and it was amazing. We got a variety of sushi rolls and nigiri. It was all incredibly fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. Their drink menu is also unique and had some really interesting options. I loved the one I picked. This is a perfect date night or splurge. It is pricey but totally worth it. Considering sushi is always fairly expensive, the modest increase in price here is definitely worth the massive increase in quality. We had amazing service during our visit. The friends we came with visit regularly and knew a lot of the staff so that definitely could have impacted our experience. The atmosphere is pretty nifty as well. It's tucked down a stairwell below street level and has an exclusive feel to it. The inside of the restaurant is tiny but cozy. Call for reservations to be safe - especially at busy times.

Jessy L.

Yelp
The ambiance at Ginko is definitely nice; however, for the price that you pay here, I don't think the food is that worth it. You can definitely get better quality sushi somewhere else. When you come to Ginko, I believe you're just paying for the ambiance of the restaurant. It's on the bit of the overpriced side sushi in Cleveland. There wasn't anything particularly spectacular about their rolls and the fish wasn't mind-blowingly fresh either. The service at Ginko is amazing. Very tentative staff and they make sure to check up on you to make sure everything is okay. Seating at Ginko is mainly at the bar, but they do have some regular tables along the side. There is only street parking available and it might be difficult to find one if it's during a weekend that you come. I recommend making reservations because there aren't that many seats available at the bar.

Shannon S.

Yelp
Came on Saturday early evening and there were plenty of spots at the sushi bar. Ginko is a hidden gem, tucked under the stairs next door to Dante. The sushi bar takes center stage with a very pretty glass covered rock garden countertop. The menu covers all your favorite nigiri and rolls as well as some house specials. My friend and I had a couple draft beers and an assortment of sushi rolls, including my favorite, eel & cucumber (una kyu). The sushi was made right in front of us, and it tasted very fresh! Overall, popular sushi spot with great service. We had a nice time, and the atmosphere was vibrant. Looking forward to coming back!

Jan B.

Yelp
So very small place. Huge sushi bar but only 5 tables of which only 2 are for more than 2 people. They don't do shabu shabu anymore even though it's still on the online menu. Disappointing. The unagi sushi eel and foie gras delicious. As was the jumbo shrimp with miso Mayo roll. Spider roll, soft shell crab - good. Ginko roll unremarkable. California roll a waste. Barely any crab. Hot sake's small only. Overall disappointing. Lots of rice with most rolls to filling. Long wait for food and service, Alex, spotty. Parking can be difficult bc of all the places near this intersection. Don't think we'd bother coming back.

Yelp
favorite restaurant in cleveland. the flavors, ambience, and service is all top notch. the fish taste like it swam right out from the sea. sitting up at the bar gives you a perfect, and intimate, view of the action. all of the individuals that work there feel hand selected and recruited. everyone is incredible but special thanks to Joey, Emily, and chef Jake for their brilliance. This is my go to celebration restaurant. birthdays, anniversaries, passing the bar exam, and friends visiting from out of town it is a must visit. Ginko is the best of the best!!

Aaron G.

Yelp
We were happy when we found the place! Cool ambience and the staff were friendly and the chefs on point

Evan F.

Yelp
Never been a big fan of sushi, but continually trying to expand my horizons and joined my wife (and some neighborhood friends) for a recent weekday Happy Hour meal and drinks. Their HH menu is decent and offered a wide variety of cocktails, wines, sushi and appetizers. My wife helped guide me through the dishes and we ordered items until we were full (it took 5 or 6 things). Here is quick rundown of the plates we ordered: spicy scallop chips, vegetable tempura roll, salmon skin roll, una kyu (eel), negi hama (yellowtail). Adding in a smidge of wasabi and a dousing of soy sauce made for tasty bite after tasty bite. I'm sold! We didn't go too exotic on this outing, but I'm sure we'll expand out of subsequent visits (of which there will be many!).

Phyllis E.

Yelp
This restaurant was an experience that I won't forget. Those place may be small but it lacks a mighty punch. The food is amazing and the atmosphere on a weekend is busy but fun. Tried Uni for the first time and it was great. Everything was very fresh and having the ability to see everything in action is the cherry on top. I can't wait to return!

Brian R.

Yelp
A couple years have past, yet this is still six star sushi, and remains the best that I've tried in North America. The seared dishes have lost some of their subtlety. Other than that, the freshness of the fish, the uniqueness of their nigiri and rolls, and the vibe of this intimate basement susheria have no equal. Sauces are made in house. Never over applied. Their blends of flavors are just wonderful. The Foie Gras and unagi is a standout, as is the Eye of the Tiger. The freshness, the plating, everything so so so good. Service is equally six star. It's tucked away in a walk down basement space that's nicely appointed. RESERVATIONS ARE AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!! This place books up pretty full, weeks in advance!

Laura C.

Yelp
Super cozy spot in Tremont. Our serve, George, was knowledgeable about sushi and ginko's offerings. Every bite we had was phenomenal. I would love to come back and sit at the bar and watch the sushi chefs work their magic! You could tell they take pride in the ingredients and keep them so fresh. I wish I took a pic of their happy hour menu but it is 4-6 Tuesday through Friday with some cheap rolls and half priced wine. I agree with a previous yelper thag cocktail menu was lacking. The cocktail I got was pretty nasty and the house wine was putrid.

Brianna K.

Yelp
The place: Itty bitty, lots of character. There's a horseshoe bar around the sushi chefs, a couple two-person high tops, and a couple booths. It's small enough that often (so I eavesdropped) the tables are only for reservations. The location: Ginkgo's is a little tricky to find if you're looking for a door at sidewalk level. If you're looking at Dante, take the stairs on the right down under the Ginkgo's awning. There's plentiful free street parking. The food: Easily the best sushi I've ever had. Fish was fresh, rolls were a mix of old favorites (spicy tuna) and unique (Yama roll with sweet potato and purple potato). We shared seven rolls amongst the two of us and every single piece was an utter delight. The service: Excellent. It's a hot hand towel type of place, so I felt spoiled. They were also very attentive with our water and knowledgeable about the rolls. We even ended up with the ginkgo roll on the recommendation of our server. Next time: I might need to try the miso soup!

Emily S.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I love the downstairs vibe. We did the chefs tasting sushi menu and it was such an amazing experience and worth the expense.

Jacqueline P.

Yelp
I just cannot say enough about this hidden treasure! I've added more exciting pics of a more advanced palate! If you have the opportunity sit in front of the Chef and Sous Chef! They are fun, welcome questions and make outstanding suggestions! We not only stepped up our game but enjoyed the Sake and Green tea cheesecake with strawberries!!! Quintin is adorable too with his gorgeous eyes!

Irene C.

Yelp
Went here for my birthday after hearing great things about it from friends. Overall, the food was good--but I believe the ROLLS are the star of the show, and wish I had ordered more. We had the scallop rolls and the uni roll which were both DELICIOUS and extremely well executed. For apps, we got the tuna tartare after reading great things, which was delicious but the flavor was a bit overwhelmed by sesame oil. The chefs tasting sashimi was alright--some pieces were clearly better than others. Next time, I would forego the sashimi and go for more of their rolls!

Michael B.

Yelp
Fantastic sushi. Awesome service. Great place. Go see for yourself - you will not be disappointed.

Yixiao Y.

Yelp
Very fresh fish and amazing sushi. Two stars off because (1) they don't pick up the phone for takeout orders even if you call 10x (2) service is a bit lacking. Our server essentially ignored us and kept talking to the couple right next to us at the sushi bar. Tldr: good sushi by Midwest standard

Maeve P.

Yelp
Honestly, this was a phenomenal place for a nice date night. My partner and I were able to find parking easily and were seated at the bar upon arrival. The bar is the main feature of this place, as it takes up most of the small space in the restaurant, and patrons are able to watch the sushi chefs at work. For drinks, we got the Kyoto #3, which was delicious, and we ordered a variety of rolls for dinner, all of which were fabulous. I'm convinced that they don't have a bad offering on the menu. The only downside is that the rolls are small, and the food is expensive (as is advertised), so we spent almost $100 and were still slightly hungry after our meal. However, the atmosphere is great, the food was delicious, and I'd definitely recommend trying it if you love sushi and want to try some of the best Cleveland has to offer.

Joe M.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to go for some unique sushi in Cleveland. The entrance is fairly unique as well since it's just an awning and a narrow passage way underground to access the actual restaurant. You are greeted by a friendly smile as you enter and you get to walk through Japanese art to access the dining area. The sushi bar area is what draws your eye as you enter since it takes up most of the restaurant. You get to watch them make several interesting dishes as you are sitting there enjoying your food. Their happy hour is pretty awesome and we tried everything down the list. The sake choices are plentiful and the sushi dishes are super unique. Their tuna steak pieces were some of my favorite as they charred the top piece of fatty tuna perfectly. We will definitely be coming back here to sample the rest of their menu - Nice Work!

Madison O.

Yelp
I am so impressed with Ginko and so happy to finally have tried this sushi place. I may never get sushi at another place in Cleveland ever again. The staff was wonderful and despite showing up at the wrong time for my reservation they were accommodating. Our waiter did not give a ton of guidance but I was more than satisfied with what he recommended. He encouraged us to order a variety of sushi and did not have a ton of input on our selection. Perhaps because they are all worth the hype? The special that day, tuna toro tartar, is the sole reason I would return. The tuna literally melts in your mouth and quail egg coats ever bite in a buttery goodness. We also ordered miso soups: why have I never had truffle and lobster in this dish before? Hamachi, Sake, Hotate were among some of the things we tried. The seared salmon belly was a total stand out and I would order multiples next time. We did order a few rolls for good measure. The shrimp tempura roll hits the spot and is quite literally, jumbo.

chris p.

Yelp
Overpriced. For almost $100 I should feel like I received a meal, not just a sampling of itsy-bitsy bite appetizers. Specialty rolls should be half to 2/3 the price. Sushi? I've had less expensive and better sushi on New York's Upper East Side. Heck, I've had less expensive and better sushi most any major metropolitan city I've eaten sushi at in the world!!! Service, fair, nothing worth a glowing praise. Portions, small to the point that there is no value is trying this place again! I'm not opposed to a premium price when you leave full, but small portions and highest prices in town are simply unacceptable. Waste of money. Really disappointed because the reviews were good. Dine at your wallet's risk!!!!!!!!!!!

Daniel L.

Yelp
Great local spot for sushi in a classic location. The restaurant is not big so be sure to plan ahead and make a reservation if you can. The drink menu is pretty unique and our server was kind enough to explain what was available and make substitutions if needed. I had the Kyoto #3 which is whiskey, passion fruit, mint, lime, and ginger beer and it was pretty amazing. As for the sushi, it was unbelievable. This is by far the best sushi that I have found in Cleveland. You need to treat yourself to one piece of Toro (the underbelly of tuna) at least once in your life and Ginko may be just the place to do it!!!

Dana M.

Yelp
So good. I think best sushi in the city and suburbs of Cleveland. Drinks are great as well

Mark G.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi we've ever had. Enough to make these two tourists want to come back to Cleveland, just for this sushi. Make a reservation though. We waited over an hour for a table in this underground lil bunker. Totally worth it. Ask for the specials. Order off the menu. I can't remember the name of the seared salmon belly dish we got but it melted in our mouths. And make sure you order only seared Nigiri. I recommend the seared scallops with Uni and the Fatty Tuna for sure. But easily the best bite of food for me was the Monkfish Liver. Again off the menu. Was soooo gooood! One more thing, bring your wallet. Lol still worth it.

Marianne K.

Yelp
Ginko is probably my favorite "fancy" restaurant in cleveland. The quality of the seafood is so fresh and tasty. This past Saturday was the second time visiting and yet again it was delicious as ever. We got the fatty tuna tartare and wow was that one of the best tartares I've ever eaten. We got the hamachi usuzukuri. The fish tasted a bit less buttery and melt in your mouth than the first time i got it but still solid We got an assortment of rolls next: Dante roll: delish Royal crab roll: solid but i probably wouldn't get it again, seemed kinda bland in comparison Spicy tuna roll: unexpected that such a simple roll would be so tasty but i was a fan of this We then split one of the chef selection. This was a beautiful assortment of sashimi that comes with fresh wasabi, which if you haven't tried, is amazing. The fish was all so fresh and tasty and the textures were just fun. It was the perfect amount for the two of us to split to get a taste of everything. Got the green tea cheesecake for dessert. The body of the cheesecake is so light and creamy. I'm someone who doesn't like overly sweet desserts so this was the one for me. The strawberry sorbet and the strawberries were the perfect complement. Tasty dessert. TLDR: 5 stars Recs: tuna tartare, Dante roll, spicy tuna roll, chef's selection, green tea cheesecake

Amy J.

Yelp
Fantastic creative cocktail selection in a stylish hole in the wall under Dante restaurant. Beautiful sushi creations! White tuna was so buttery smooth. The Atsuko cocktail was an incredibly rare tequila creation with creme de cassis and Orgeat which lent an almond nutty berry almost chocolate nutty profile to this super unique drink. The hot sake was super smooth. The other sushi creations my friends had including the super aromatic truffled miso soup were all really wonderfully made and tasty.

Leslie H.

Yelp
Gingko roll is a bit bland imo but the unagi & foie gras is a must-try. Unagi was seared perfectly and its very slight crunchiness combined with the creaminess of the foie gras makes for a delicious combination that just melts in your mouth. If you actually want a filling meal and not just snacks, I'd recommend happy hour (4:30-6:30) to get one or two regularly priced special rolls along with a few of the $5 rolls (+$5 cocktails!) Their house soy sauce has a unique flavor that's less salty and enhances the rolls without overwhelming This place kinda gives off speakeasy vibes with its dimly lit, cramped underground location right underneath Dante set against a red glass mosaic wall backdrop. For groups of 4-5, there are only 2 booths and reservations are usually booked out 2 weeks in advance. Otherwise, it's mostly bar seating which is cozy and the waterfall-over-stones counter is a nice touch. On weekdays, try to shoot for well before 6-6:30, which is when the waitlist usually starts for the rush of people coming in at the tail end of HH. For us it was about a 30 min wait on a Friday night around 6ish

Beth M.

Yelp
Still the best sushi I've had in Cleveland. Thoughtfully, sourced, and carefully prepared. I will still never forget the quail egg -you cannot go wrong here!

Bruce L.

Yelp
Service was very good. Food was good. not over the top. BUT THE HOSTESS was possibly the most unpleasant individual I have ever encountered in a restaurant. As I said, service and food was good but not enough to overcome that attitude. WON'T BE GOING BACK.

Penis M.

Yelp
Ginko was a terrific experience. We sat right in front of chef Jake at the sushi bar, and we got to see the sashimi and nigiri being presented right in front of us. We started with a diced otoro special with wasabi tartar sauce that blew us away. The otoro melted in your mouth and was paired beautifully with the tartar sauce. We got some rolls and nigiri after that, which were good but did not compare to the special we started with. The service was good and timely, and we will definitely be going again.

Robert S.

Yelp
Finally got into Ginko and wished we had brought a sandwich. The food came sooooo slowly. We ordered the tasting menu and the first plate of sushi arrived--I'm not kidding--60 minutes later. I have no idea what it tasted like. We were so hungry we inhaled it. I pined to be at the bar, where people who had suddenly popped in seemed to get served relatively quickly. That's definitely the way to go here.

Cindy F.

Yelp
Great attentive staff, friendly chefs. Hidden gem in a basement. You won't find fresher fish!!! Thanks will be back

John G.

Yelp
Outstanding place for sushi or an appetizer before you go to Dante's. They are friendly and helpful with drink suggestions and food options

Dana C.

Yelp
Every bite of food here gives me happiness . I also love the atmosphere and the music . Best sushi in Cleveland .

Charlotte G.

Yelp
One of the best sushi restaurants in Cleveland! Took my work team here and we had the best time sitting at the bar and ordering recommendations from the staff, who were very helpful and encouraged us to try things that we would have never ordered otherwise. Plan ahead because they fill up fast!

Jan W.

Yelp
Not sure what happened but the quality went down for me. The salmon roll with cucumber and sesame seed didn't taste up to par with what Ive had elsewhere. The drinks have changed and I wasn't a huge fan of what was offered. Missing the Midori fizz!

Kevin N.

Yelp
hello sushi. in cleveland! wow. Ginko is an upscale sushi / japanese spot in tremont. I went with a friend on a wednesday evening and we were sat at this adorable intimate table in a corner. sure it was like facing a wall, but would be a terrific place for a date. the space itself isn't huge, so I would recommend a reservation if you really want a spot. we arrived before 6:30 pm and the cocktails were half off! so, i had an amazing ginger martini (tequila based!) for only $5! friend had a truly delicious passion fruit gin drink. started with the miso soup and edamame. the edamame was cooked perfectly? like i had never realized all the other edamame i had eaten in my life was not living up to its full potential until i ate THIS edamame and was taken to another level. it was had the most gorgeous salt crystals that gave it a crunch and a salty tang. ok. now real food. how's the sush? honestly very good. It's not cheap sushi. it's quality fish. we ordered an assortment of rolls and they were all very good. what stuck out to me the most, though, was the wagyu tataki nigiri. the meat was BUTTERY and SOFT and amazing. I was sad when I swallowed it and it was all gone :( service was hit and miss for us: initially it took 20 mins for waiter to come greet us after being seated (he looked slammed?) but when i told them it was my friends birthday they dropped a free dessert which was incredibly kind of them. we had a sesame ice cream on a chocolate pudding type of thing and WOW when i tell you I will he dreaming about that sesame ice cream for days i am not lying. oh and it was topped with a tempura banana mmm. if you're looking for a special occasion in a trendy tremont spot, hit up ginko. aim for happy hour if you're looking to splurge but not too hard.

Yelp
The husband and I came here to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. The reviews don't do this place justice. My husband lived in Tokyo for almost a year, and this place is some of the best sushi he has ever had in the US it's small, cozy, and intimate. The menu is incredible. The service is amazing. Arrive early so you can get a seat. But I can't recommend this place more!! WOW!

Yelp
I wrote a lengthy three-star review of this restaurant that went into detail about things they did that were wrong: being mistreated by the staff, snootiness and the hipper-than-thou lecture one of the staff delivered. but then I thought to myself, does this really help anyone decide whether to eat here or not? Probably not. If you were a fan before, you'll think I'm a jerk. If you weren't a fan, you're still going to go because most of the reviews are positive. That review makes the experience about me instead of being about you and what you are looking for in a restaurant. The owners of that restaurant needed to read my review. If anyone who worked there read this review, they got the message. I chose to remove it, but replace it with this five-star placeholder. That review doesn't need to be in the world but it does need to be with the people who delivered the experience. This is probably one of the better restaurants in Cleveland. I hope they take to heart what I said and decide to treat everyone with respect instead of testing new patrons to see if they're cool enough. I'm going to bet that they will.
