LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This Japanese curry chain has opened in Tokyo Central Market in Gardena, serving a deep, dark brown Kanazawa-style curry that’s been stewed for five hours and comes with various fried things on top. If you’re extra hungry, they also have Grand Slam or World Champion platters, which look built for someone about to enter a sumo match and are loaded with things like sausage links, fried shrimp, and eggs." - cathy park

Best Affordable Los Angeles Restaurants to Eat at for Under $25 This Summer | Eater LA

"The first West Coast outpost of this Japanese chain inside Tokyo Central serves a nearly black, 55-hour curry that’s dense like veal demi-glace and almost chocolatey—more about the sauce than the fried cutlets, which act as vehicles. One wishes they were more liberal with the ladle, but the Home Run combo keeps it interesting with a snappy sausage link and crispy tempura shrimp (hard-boiled eggs add little, beyond protein), and the massive Grand Slam or World Champion might be the play for a solo feast. Must-try dish: Home Run combination plate." - Rebecca Roland

Google
My favorite curry place in Japan is now down the street from me. First day was a little bit rough, but that’s to be expected with first days. That said, it tasted wonderful. I came back on 7/1 and service took ~10 minutes during lunch. Very good! Some people say it’s spicy. I don’t think it’s spicy at all. I LOVE the thick curry sauce. Too many curry restaurants have watery curry. Not here. The curry is PERFECT. I will be back again and again and again

Google
Tried this place in Hawaii and was thrilled to find out it opened in socal! Their curry is kanazawa style so it's darker & thicker (more gravy-like). It's a different flavor from the typical Japanese curry that's definitely worth trying. I recommend getting one of the larger plates to share. Super filling!

Google
I really like their curry. It’s thick, katsu is crispy and well flavored. Although I wish they would serve curry separately because they just pour it on rice but it’s just my preference. I almost didn’t wait, my order was ready in 1-2 minutes. Curry itself has sweet flavor and I would say it’s mildly spicy

Google
It's a small restaurant inside the large grocery store on the right side past the entrance. Got the standard combo which was 20$, and the portion looks a bit smaller compared to the photo. Food was good and curry was tasty, but out didn't taste unique in anyways besides having a darker color. The katsu, shrimp and egg was all great, though I'm not a fan of the sausage. All a bit overpriced but its still tasty, so if probably just prefer to try it in Japan. I did enjoy the small outdoor food court here.

Google
It was cool. Curry was a little sweeter than I am used to, but it was definitely Japanese curry! Hard to find nowadays. It is a food court so it does get crowded.

Google
I finally came to see what the fuss is all about and i was not disappointed. The curry is really good. I really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back. They offer smaller portions as well as extra large portions for sharing. There are plenty of toppings to choose from but im guessing the cheese option is the most popular.

Google
Had the pork curry. Curry was a tad bit too salty for my taste, but the pork was perfectly crispy. Counter staff was friendly and inviting. Really nice. Atmosphere is 5/5 because i expected plastic cutlery, and got a nice fork with a wooden handle. That's class.

Google
Gotta try this place out if u a big Japanese curry fan!

Yelp
In my opinion I really liked this curry over coco ichibanya The dark and rich curry was just so delicious and paired so well with the pork katsu. The side of pickled veggies and cabbage were also a nice addition to the curry. The katsu itself was cooked perfectly and was very juicy without being too oily. Definitely would come here again.

Yelp
Located inside Tokyo Central food court. You order on a kiosk, the service was pretty fast and workers were nice. Home Run itself was decently sized for $21. Cutlet was very good, nice and crunchy. Curry itself was different, more sour but still flavorful. Personally not my cup of tea compared to creamy curries but plate overall was a nice experience

Yelp
My wife was going to Tokyo Central to pick up a few items so I asked her to pick up lunch at Go Go. Apparently, they've got locations all over Japan so I was curious to find out how good these guys were. I ordered the large pork cutlet curry which cost a smidgen over $20 with tax and tip. Reasonable but I didn't think the large was any bigger than your standard tonkatsu at an average Japanese restaurant. The quality was very good for a takeout stand. The cutlet was nice and crispy on the outside and the meat was reasonably moist. It comes with a generous amount of well cooked rice that was better than most takeout Japanese or Hawaiian places where it can be hit or miss. Nothing worse than dry, crusty rice to kill a takeout plate like this. Good job Go Go. The curry was also very good. It wasn't very spicy which is fine with me but if you prefer a little kick, I'm not sure if they have options for more heat. Definitely worth trying out if happen to be in the Gardena/Torrance area. I'd like to come back and try the chicken katsu to compare with other local places like L&L or nearby mom and pops. You can kill 2 birds with 1 stone if you're in the market for some Japanese groceries. Great selection of Japanese snacks, candy, and beverages at Tokyo Central too. If only the parking here wasn't such a pain in the "oshiri" (come on now, you can figure it out).

Yelp
Decent curry in the Tokyo Central market in Gardena. Nothing extraordinary but well prepared and good tasting curry.

Yelp
Savory delicious!!! My new favorite Japanese curry! One bite says it all! The richness of flavors keeps exploding in my mouth. Great fast friendly service. It was my first time trying this place since I heard so much about it from people who visited Japan. How is it even possible to taste this good! I ordered just curry and rice just to compartmentalized the curry itself. It was the best! Just the right amount of spice. Their curry is borderline illegal - it's that good!

Yelp
Go Go Curry finally came to the West Coast! I remember being so excited to eat here in NYC, and seeing them expand-so go them! I got the pork curry for lunch (takeout) and it was great. Looking forward to getting more takeout from them in the future!

Yelp
I frequent Tokyo Central plenty so I've seen their food court change multiple times in the last decade or so. This particular spot used to be a sushi spot, then a bakery, then it was empty for a minute... ... and then a discovery on social media saying this place has opened up! There was even an attached article and was sold before I finished reading the whole thing. Came through with Big Bro and Mom. They both went for the regular pork Katsu. I went for the home run (gotta have that egg and fried shrimp.) Paid, got a pager and patiently waited. Wasn't long before our goodies came out. HOME RUN: It's basically a regular katsu (I got pork) but with boiled egg (cut in half), shrimp and 2 pieces of sausage. Light breading on the katsu and juicy on the inside. Great seasoning! Same with the shrimp - decent size, also. Boiled egg is what it is, nothing out of the ordinary. But what binds all of these together is the curry sauce. It is darker than most Japanese curry plates I've tried, but this has amazing flavor. There's a lot of everything good in it, and has so much depth. The shaved cabbage served as good palate cleansers as with the red fuku. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. Very little interaction, but service with a smile and food came out hot and delicious! VALUE: 5. Worth it! The home run plate is good for two! PARKING: Located inside Tokyo Central. Private lot. It gets super busy during lunch hours on weekdays and even busier during weekends. OVERALL: 4.5. Planning on dragging peeps with me next time to share the grand slam and/or the world champ! Awesome first run!

Yelp
We had walked by this new curry place for a while and finally made the effort to go and sit down at the Tokyo Central Food Court (rather than just getting to go). It's always packed there and this Sunday afternoon was no different. Ordering was easy and fast but it took a while to find a table. Luckily, one opened up, but it was by the sliding door, which was basically opening and closing continually our entire meal. Finding a table at this food court is generally difficult during peak hours and especially on weekends. When our buzzer went off, we walked up to the counter and picked up our food. Tokyo Central has water dispenser and cups for free so we didn't bother buying drinks. The curry was dark and flavorful. The katsu was crispy and crunchy. The sausage had a nice snap to it and the shrimp was plump inside the breading. The meal came with the perfect amount of rice which soaked up all the curry goodness. If you like thicker, darker curry sauces, this place will not disappoint. The closest I could compare Go Go to is Chanpions Curry but I like this my CB better. Usually when I come to Tokyo Central, my go to is Kagura but it looks like they have competition now (and sadly, less than 5 feet away). In the end, it'll depend what I'm craving more. Kagura for better Katsu or Go Go for better curry.

Yelp
Solid spot for Japanese curry. I had the pork katsu curry. I liked that the curry had a good depth of flavor and a slightly spicy kick to it. I also liked how the small red pickles added a tasty sweetness to the curry and rice. The pork katsu had a nice crispy exterior. I think everything was excellent in this dish and imo this pork katsu curry tasted similar to the one I ate at one of Go Go Curry's locations in Japan.

Yelp
Other than my gf's japanese curry, this is probably the runner up. I love this style of curry, which is dark and flavorful. The katsu was crunchy, which was a nice contrast to the curry. we got the large and was able to share. Portion is pretty big for one, but absolutely doable. Much like the other stalls in this market, you order and pick up your food. They got a huge parking lot, so there shouldn't be any trouble finding one.
google avatar

Danielle H.

Yelp
The flavor of the curry was some of the best I have ever tasted. It could have had more veggie pieces in it though. The katsu was also perfect. I'll have to settle with buying a large and adding my own cooked veggies.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
Yum! Ordered the small pork katsu curry. The curry was really yummy, it had a nice kick to it. Not overly spicy but definitely noticeable. The katsu had a nice crisp and the pork was pretty juicy. It also came with a side of cabbage and red pickles. Food was delicious, I do feel like it was on the pricier side. They're having a grand opening with $2 off your total bill.

Yelp
A new curry place opened up and you have to check it out! This place is located inside the Tokyo Central where the food court is. Parking is pretty easy but sometimes it gets pretty crowded during lunch time. They are located in the far corner so it's easy to spot. The staff recommended to try the og so we ordered the original pork katsu curry to share and it was delicious! The curry was almost thick and gravy consistency and very rich in taste. The katsu was juicy and paired so well with the curry. Definitely recommend to check it out!

Yelp
I had a decent experience at Go Go Curry. They have a nice variety of options on their menu. I wasn't feeling too hungry so I decided to try their Home Run which is a classic plate with their most popular toppings (1 tempura shrimp, 1 sausage, 1 hard boiled egg) and comes with a choice of chicken or pork katsu. I got the pork katsu and it was okay. I am hoping to try their chicken katsu because I usually find chicken to be juicier. The curry here is also darker than you'd expect if you've eaten a lot of Japanese curry. It was more dense in flavor and slightly saltier. It was still good! The sausage was very smoky and I enjoyed the shrimp tempura. For the price that I paid, I was wondering if I should go for the grand slam instead because I was pretty hungry! I think there is more value the larger the combo. If I could find a buddy willing go in on the World Champion combo then I'll give that a shot next time! The service was fast and I waited about 10 minutes tops. The ambiance is loud but you can still talk. It's in their food court so it can get packed during their rush hour. So I recommend coming before or after lunch/dinner.

Yelp
A few months back, I went to Tokyo Central in Gardena for brunch and saw a coming soon sign for Go Go Curry. The last time I went to Go Go Curry was in NYC over a decade ago. I remember how delicious the rich, hearty curry was, and I became very excited for the opening of Go Go Curry's first LA location. Flash forward a few months, I had seen on Instagram that Go Go Curry had finally opened, and I knew I had to make a trip to Tokyo Central again. The other food court vendors had stayed the same. Seating was as usual for Tokyo Central. For only being open for a few days, the staff were quite efficient and provided excellent service. Whenever I am at a food court, I like to order from several places. So I only got the pork katsu curry from Go Go Curry. The food took about 10 minutes to make. Compared to Kagura immediately next door, the katsu was not at the same level. However, the Kanazawa style curry was exactly the way I remembered it. Slightly spicy, but much darker than many other Japanese curries, and quite rich. Definitely hit some nostalgia feelings for me. I will definitely come back in the future.

Yelp
SoCal's first Go! Go! Curry location! This store replaced a bakery that specialized in Japanese pastries. The adjacent store used to sell their curry, but it was served as a side item. But now there's a physical store with its original branding! Yay, finally! Stopped by on grand opening (June 26) for lunner. I discovered their grand opening on social media. I ordered the Home Run curry since it was $2 off. Everything (including tax) totaled up to $20. I thought it was pricey, but it is convenient (saves a trip to Japan). The toppings: shrimp, pork katsu, and Japanese sausage were juicy. The pork katsu stood out because it wasn't dry (like other pork katsu I've had in LA). It's very close to the ones I've had in Japan. Unfortunately, the curry was cold when I received it. I also noticed that they skimped on the curry sauce (which I wanted more of), so I was a little disappointed. But, it was good anyway! I love how they served it in the original silverware/plate that they use in Japan! It adds authenticity. It's great to know that I don't have to travel to fulfill my Go! Go! Curry cravings now. My only suggestion is that they add more curry sauce in the dish, aside from that, keep up the good work. I look forward to coming back!

Yelp
Definitely good curry. Right inside Tokyo Central, which hooked it up because we were starving when we got there. We ordered from Go Go and also Kagura next to it and the Go Go came out first by a long time. That being said, each had their own good and bad. From the Go Go side, the curry flavor was just really great. Bold, almost spicy flavor that we really loved. The katsu itself was a little overcooked though and we would have loved it if the katsu was a little thicker. Feels like it might have been made earlier since it came out so fast, but again, the curry sauce itself was great. The worker was super nice and it was a nice clean place to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
We tried out Go Go Curry and I've got to say that it's impressive for being located inside of the food court in Tokyo Central. We ordered the Home Run which came with Tonkatsu, sausage, fried shrimp tempura and a boiled egg. We also ordered a Tonkatsu Curry. Both dishes came with rice and cabbage salad. We noticed the curry was the consistency of a Demi-glacé rather than a curry stew and it was darker. The portions were perfectly sized and reasonably priced for the portions. It was very fast and friendly service. The only drawback is the limited seating the in food court. It's like vulture parking and you have to wait for a table to open up.

Yelp
So I heard this place was a chain from Japan, and that their curry was a darker color that usual Japanese curries, so I wanted to see for myself. It's located inside a Tokyo Central store, so the restaurant name is not visible from the outside. You have to go in and to the right. The menu provided curry, with choices of katsu pork, katsu chicken, fried shrimp, boiled egg, sausage and cheese. The cashier told me to let him know if I had any questions. I had a few, and he was very helpful. A very curry- informed young man. The curry was in fact different, seemed like it had a more spices taste to it. Had a tinge of heat, but not enough to ruin the experience, and the chicken was very tender! Bit through it with ease! Didn't need a knife to cut it. All in all, it was a great experience. Recommend a trip to try it yourself!
google avatar

Nathan G.

Yelp
This was the best Japanese curry I have ever had. Unlike every other time I have had this dish (even at other specialty joints), this did not taste like it came from a supermarket bought sauce block - it was much more soulful and flavorful. I did not even mind the lack of spice level options, this does not need a big spicy kick. The pork katsu and rice were done well also, but are supporting actors to the main event which is the excellent curry sauce. Not really cheap, food court atmosphere - but worth a trip out here!
google avatar

Edwin R.

Yelp
Chicken Katsu was moist considering it's white meat. Curry was flavorful with a slight spicy kick. Portion was on the smaller side. I got the regular size. Price seems high for what you get. Good service. Worth checking out.

Yelp
I've always seen Go Go Curry in Japan and Thailand, but I never had the chance to try it. I'm glad they finally opened one here in the U.S. After reading a few other reviews, I was actually surprised to see that some people found it just decent. My go-to katsu curry spot has always been Foo Foo Tei in Hacienda Heights. For the longest time, I couldn't find anything quite like it. The curry there is thicker and richer. Go Go Curry turned out to be everything I prefer in a Japanese curry. I ordered the "Homerun," which came with a sausage, a fried shrimp, and a hard-boiled egg. They forgot the egg, but that's alright. For the Homerun, there wasn't an option to choose a rice size, but I liked that you can pick your rice portion for the regular "Katsu Curry." Like I mentioned, the curry was thick and flavorful. It was sweet and savory with a hint of tanginess. It was also very aromatic. The katsu was perfect for me. I like that they didn't trim the fat because it adds texture and flavor. The fried shrimp was crispy and came with a dab of tartar sauce. The sausage was smoky with a nice crunch. If I had one complaint, it would be that I wish the standard portion came with a little more curry. I know I could just order extra, but it would be nice if they included a bit more by default. Go Go Curry is located inside Tokyo Central. Seating can be hit or miss depending on when you go, and parking can be tricky. The price is a bit on the expensive side. For the same price elsewhere, you might get runny eggs like in an omurice. But it's really good, so I didn't mind paying a bit more. I guess the main takeaway is that Go Go Curry's style might not be for everyone, but it is for me. One of the best I've ever had.

Yelp
This place is in the food court at Tokyo Central in Gardena. My favorite curry was at Curry House (R.I.P.) but this place I think would top it. Their curry has subtle spiciness and is a dark rich experience. Most curries I've tried recently have had a basic flavor and lacked complexity. I don't mean to sound fancy but I really liked this place and I haven't even got yo the pork yet. Pork was a good piece of meat still juicy not dry and dunking it into the curry the breading stayed on. Definitely going back
google avatar

Steve N.

Yelp
The go go curry with tonkatsu was excellent! We tried both pork and chicken (breast) cutlet! The curry is very flavorful and different from other curry places. I like it. The service is good, although the dining area is okay, part of the Tokyo Central (Donki) food court. Wonderful meal.

Yelp
Opening a Katsu spot right next to Kagura in Tokyo Central is wilddd. Had to see if it could hold its own. Wife & I shared the grand slam. Enjoyed the fried shrimp, eggs & sausage sides. Nothing special but it gave the meal some variety. Cabbage comes plain. Never seen a curry so dark but for me it hits. Rich, nicely seasoned with spices but mild in terms of the actual curry flavor. Wife grew up on S&B so she prefers the stronger curry kick you get from that. The katsu was pretty standard. Cutlets looked kinda small/flat I prefer it a little thicker to balance the breading. Good rice to curry ratio. For $36 a little pricey but thought it was a decent portion to share. We can definitely eat but we were pretty full at the end. Overall it's a must tryl! Solid addition to Tokyo. Central. Unique curry flavor. The standard plates looked kinda small portion-wise but I'd definitely recommend the grand slam combo for 2 if you can eat!
google avatar

Justine K.

Yelp
This is a food court style restaurant located inside Tokyo Central so it's incredibly casual and low-key. You order at the counter and when they call your number/name, you pick up and either eat at one of the tables (inside or outside) or can take out to bring home. We ended up doing takeout and the food came out pretty quick. We got the home run combo platter to share which is basically the katsu, a shrimp tempura, an egg, some lettuce, and rice. This is probably good for 1 regular hungry person, but since I wasn't very hungry, sharing was okay for me this time. I really liked the flavor of the curry since it made me feel warm and cozy. I believe they also sell the curry sauce on the side. Something to consider the next time I'm there!
google avatar

Julian E.

Yelp
I ordered the small pork, Katsu curry. For those wondering the curry sauce is light on spices, sweet and thicker in texture than most curries I'm used to. I couldn't tell if it was thicker because of potato starch or spices, but it was good..not great. The cashier did not know how to describe it or if the curry itself had any meat in it. He might've been new. One last thing they do not trim the fat off of the pork .
google avatar

Melissa R.

Yelp
Was finally able to try this spot and it did not disappoint. The curry is so favorable and the chicken has an excellent texture. Next time I will be getting the grand slam
google avatar

Rom D.

Yelp
First time getting this and got the home run curry rice combo with the pork katsu, shrimp tempura, Weiner, and boiled egg. Everything was good except the Weiner. The wiener tested like boiled water. If anything avoid that topping. I think management should switch the brand they used. If I come back I'll focus on the katsu and curry rice. I should have asked for extra curry. Also I wish they had more veggie toppings like carrots potatoes and celery.
google avatar

Yukiko M.

Yelp
Checked out the new curry spot inside Tokyo Central and picked up the pork katsu curry to-go. The curry had a darker, spice-forward roux which caught me by surprise at first, but it ended up being super tasty! I got the regular size and it was actually really filling. Looking forward to trying some of the other flavors next time. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!
google avatar

Brenda N.

Yelp
The curry was so good! Perfectly flavored with a hint of spice. It's perfect for lunch because it is one of the food counters inside Tokyo Central - which is great for a quick bite. Even though it just opened, the service was quick and friendly. I will be coming back!
google avatar

Jefferey T.

Yelp
The curry was very good. Unlike any kind of Japanese curry that I've had before. I'm giving only 4 stars due to there being a large chunk of fat that ran through a third of the tonkatsu. Hopefully it's just grand opening growing pains and their quality control will improve.

Yelp
My family and I liked to visit the curry house in LA, reason we visited Go Go curry in Gardena, Rice good, Sauce taste 4 of 5 appeal to dark 3/5 pork cutlets too CHEWY . I wish I could find out a place that kept original recipe from Curry House!

Yelp

Yelp
I am a lifetime lover of GGC and I want to thank management for bringing this glorious dining establishment to Los Angeles. May you find a home here forever. NOTE FOR OWNERSHIP: please deep fry or grill your sausage? It's how the other locations do it, at least in NY. Right now it tastes like I'm raw dogging a boiled sausage. Thank you!!!! I'll come again regardless

Linda C.

Yelp
The rice and curry is great. Just the pork chop looks all dark and burned. This is the take home pork chop. Dirty oil????

Yelp
So not sure what caused the downfall of Tokyo du Croisants, which had some good pastries and baked goods but maybe not enough to differentiate from local competition, but up springs GoGoCurry at the Tokyo Central artesia blvd Gardena location. This is interestingly another dark curry with only one spice level which is about a 2 or even 1.5 at most other places that allow you to pick a spice level. Its a very smooth flavor that i like though and this particular chain started in Kanazawa, which is near Toyama on the Japan sea side which is famous for??? You guessed it , "black ramen". But anyways back to curry, i will post their current menu. Its a simple menu and i think most will get a katsu curry which you can get a chicken or pork katsu which means fried cutlet. I tried the homerun that included a rough ground pork sausage and a fried shrimp which is breaded not tempura style and matches the cutlet. Like most japanese plates it has some shredded cabbage. A small amount of fukujinsuke (usually red japanese pickled raddish thats slightly sweet but comes with japanese curry normally). The shrimp had a very small amount of tarter sauce on it. I found the sausage and shrimp oh and sliced hard boiled egg just filler items and to me dont match as well as just the katsu and curry does. They have different rice sizes and combinations that look crazy big but i guess shared with friends or family would be good. The place was relatively crowded at lunch and eating there could be a problem around noon as there were no tables. I took it to go though so no problems. They give you a pager to let you know foods ready so gave me time to stock up on beer and sake lol. J/k. It took bout 12 minutes so not bad. So overall, i think i will get my curry here as i like the flavor but the pork katsu although lean was a little dry( maybe because i got it to go) . I will need to try the chicken next time. Im just being nit-picky but the food was fine. You should definitely try it. Thanks for opening here, will be back!

Yelp
According to the sweet cashier we are the first one who ordered the world champion and it did not disappoint!! Indeed it's a champion in taste !! Our family devoured it .

Yelp
We are beyond excited to welcome Go!Go!Curry to the front floor food court corner in Tokyo Center Gardena! Their curry servers up rich, comforting, and flavorful dishes that instantly warm my soul. The classic Katsu curry is must-try, the crispy cutlets, thick savory sauce, and perfectly cooked rice make for my ultimate lunch treat! Ont only is the food absolutely delicious, but the price is very reasonable. Plus, the staffs are friendly and sweet! Come by and give it a try. Your taste buds will thank you!

Yelp
I have mixing feelings about the restaurant. First of all, their fry food is not on par like its competitor next door, Kagura. The dish is a bit on the small side and they don't give out enough curry sauce. Curry tastes fine, nothing too special. I may give it another try later on, but at this moment, I will stick with Kagura next door which offers better value and taste.

Yelp
This is Japanese everyday curry shop. So happy it is in Los Angeles. If you can. Try at least twice. My first visit in Tokyo is only so so. But some how start think about it. Second trip make me a regular. Most some secret ingredient.

Yelp
The portions dont make any sense. Cuz in Japan portions are huge hence the name go go curry gorilla size portions and the prices are cheap. Here portions are tiny and overpriced. In America they should name it mouse curry tiny portions. marketing doesnt make any sense here.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday at lunchtime. Ordered the home run plate to get a mix of what they do. Egg was cold and the sausage was lukewarm. The katsu was ok. I think I prefer a different style of curry than the one they serve. First time I received only a fork and knife instead of a spoon for Japanese curry.
