Where to Eat Chaat and Pani Puri in Atlanta - Eater Atlanta

"Gokul Sweets is nestled within the Patel Plaza in North Decatur, a shopping complex anchored by the Patel Brothers grocery store and brimming with Indian clothing shops and restaurants. This humble restaurant may be unrivaled for its extensive and affordable menu of chaat options, including for raj kachori, dahi puri, bhel puri, and samosa chaat. Order chaat at the window and find a table. Make sure to pair this chaat adventure with Indian soda — “Thums Up” (IYKYK). Lunch tends to be very busy at Gokul Sweets, so prepare for a wait. Also worth visiting for chaat in Patel Plaza is Chat Patti next door. Gokul Sweets includes a location in Duluth." - Henna Bakshi

I’ve been coming to Gokul Sweets for 3 years now, and it’s consistently excellent. Chana masala is my go-to dish, but I always make it a point to try something new each visit — and I’m never disappointed. Their snacks are flavorful and fresh, and the kulfi popsicles are the perfect treat. I recommend this place to everyone. After all this time, I’ve never had a single bad experience.

Latest: Dahi wada seems to be consistently tastes good. Pani puri was surprisingly good when compared to other places. And Manchuria was okay. I recently visited this place in the evening to have some snacks and tea. But ended up eating like a dinner. Not because it was tasty, bc my friends were hungry. Out of all the food orders, I liked the chaat, rest were eatable and we didn’t finish few items because they were not going in. I belief if someone leaves food in their plates, that means they are either full(choose to pack left overs) or not satisfied(throw), in our case it was later. I respect food and I’m grateful for it, so we finished everything that was on the table. Then I ordered a coffee, it was the worst ever coffee I drank in my whole life. Please don’t ever drink coffee here.

I was really excited about this place but was honestly disappointed. They really need to work on sprucing it up a bit more, decluttering and cleaning overall. There is too much going on in a small amount of space. I had actually come to the area on my way back to the northern states just to try authentic Pani puri. I looked at the cleanliness and organization of the cart and changed my mind. I asked if they use Indian dairy products (Amul etc) to make the sweets (because I'm allergic) and they had a hard time understanding what I meant even though they spoke both languages (English and Urdu) fluently. How is someone who has an allergy supposed to try your food? I was brave and still wanted to give something a try, I asked for Jilebi and it tasted like someone dipped rusk in sugar syrup without lemon. I'm so sorry to leave such a negative review, I'm just so disappointed. I was really excited to try the infamous Gokul that shared the name of the chat house in Hyderabad. Big let down. 👎🏽

This is a fantastic spot for sweets and shareable bites. The chaat dishes are especially delicious, and the roti is excellent. They also have a chani pani cart that was absolutely amazing. Bathroom was also very clean.

I ate there for the second time.. the food tastes good but is extremely oily. I haven't seen any place ever adding this much oil into their food.. I ordered thali and the box was soaked in oil, I used two tissues to remove the oil from the gravies they were totally soaked in oil, but there was still a lot of oil residue.

One day, I’ll visit Hyderabad. This is a great start with street food. I alway enjoy visiting when I come to Atlanta. Several visits already. I recommended to others

I come for mithai which are usually very good, but the last time I purchased some I found a strand of hair in the kaju roll, the service was okay, I just don't want anyone else experiencing the same thing because this was not okay. It speaks to cleanliness while preparing food for the public, and should be taken very seriously. Despite this incident, I really enjoyed their samosa.

First of all know that this is a vegetarian restaurant, no meat. Also, you have to order rice and/or naan separately. I liked the hot sour soup, great mix of spices. I didn't like the Masala Dosa so much. It was spicy enough, I just didn't like the flavor. My niece is a vegetarian, not sure what she ordered (pictured) but she didn't like it enough to finish it. We didn't try any of the sweets, but I probably won't go back.
