Golden Peony

"There’s a sophisticated and elegant feel to this spacious and comfortable Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor of the Conrad Centennial hotel. Like the decoration, the Cantonese cuisine adds contemporary touches to a classic base. The best known signature dishes of the longstanding chef include crispy roast pork belly, and claypot rice with Chinese sausage, liver sausage, and wax duck. Dim sum is also popular here." - Michelin Inspector

We celebrated my father’s birthday here and had a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was flavorful and served fresh. What made the evening even more special was the excellent service. A big thank you to Xiao Ping for being so attentive and wonderful service. She made sure everything was perfect for us and helped create a warm, celebratory atmosphere. Highly recommended for special occasions and family gatherings

I visited Golden Peony with my parents and was impressed from the moment we entered—the indoor ambiance was very satisfying. Both the plating and presentation of the dishes were beautiful. The dining area was quiet, and the spacing between tables was comfortable, making for a relaxing experience. Upon being seated, we were delighted to receive an abalone appetizer. The most memorable dish was the Peking Duck, which was the best I’ve had in Singapore. We had made the reservation to celebrate my parents’ anniversary, and we were pleasantly surprised to receive a dessert gift for the occasion. This is definitely a place I would love to visit again, and the 25% discount with my Hilton Honor Diamond membership made the meal even more enjoyable. Thank you!

Two must-orders for any self-respecting foodie...Peking duck & the sesame pastry. You'll regret skipping the crisp bites of crackly duck skin paired with batons of cantaloupe and wafer-thin pancakes. And I guarantee you'll banish FOMO in one fell swoop when you bite into the short crumbly sesame pastry that encapsulates a moreish melange of meat and veggies. As for the rest....well, if you're looking for low-salt traditional Cantonese fare, you've come to the right place. Sadly, it's not our jam. We crave flavour and much more creativity than this antiquated kitchen. So apart from those two aforementioned dishes, we could have done without the other four. What disappointed us most of all was the squid ink har gao. What sounded like a novel creation turned out borderline tasteless. A matte dry black skin and none of the gelatinous gush of prawn/pork stock bursting in the mouth. Sadly, everything else was pretty pedestrian. The siew mai, char siew bao and lo mai gai were decent but required a good dose of their inhouse chili condiment to be transformed into palatable dishes. Don't get me wrong, they're not exactly bad. But Golden Peony is, unfortunately, not worth a revisit in our book, with way more misses than hits.

A last minute decision to enjoy a meal at the restaurant. The staff were quite attentive to the point that we felt a bit rushed about having to order so the chef could leave on time. The portions are quite small and tbh not really reflective of the pricing (with respect to taste) or other reviews. There was also no atmosphere because it was empty - even though it wasn’t very late and also the trial run for the national parade.

Very delicious food and impeccable service provided by the Golden Peony team including Xiao Ping, Shirlene and Vanessa Chong! 💯 We were there for a corporate lunch and everyone really enjoyed the whole seamless experience. We preordered the dishes one day in advance and it was a pleasant surprise that the team printed out our menu so nicely for us! Xiao Ping was very patient with me and gave good advice on the food choices and quantity for my group of 10. Servers were very courteous and food was served and portioned in a timely fashion, so that we could focus on our conversations. Also appreciate May’s coordination with the Golden Peony team as the Senior Sales Manager of Conrad to ensure the restaurant is delivering top notch service! 😊

Yelp
It used to be in the hip side of the city but now this area is just....old. Hopefully after the suntec revamp, it will be more lively. Except for a large table of customers doing wedding banquet tasting, the restaurant is quiet and less than half full. We went for the set menu and it was disappointing. The dishes were different from the usual, but not always in a good way. The only dish we liked out of the 6 dishes is the soup. Presented beautifully and served with bird nest, crab meat, bamboo pith, spinach, this was nice, clean and light. The rest of the dishes were too heavy, nothing memorable. The pork was cooked too dry, the shrimps not tasty enough, the noodles acceptable. For $98+++ per pax, we expected more. This is why we haven't been to this place for a long time and it will probably take a lot more to bring us back.

Yelp
I want to write a scathing post about this place, just based on how unhappy I was at the end of this meal - but I can't bring myself to verbose hostility this morning, and so you have to imagine how bad it was. suffice to say that I was disappointed, not just because this was supposed to be an institution, a stalwart of fine chinese dining in singapore - and what we got, at incredibly high prices and pretty lacking service, was dimsum not even at the standards of the midrange chinese restaurants like yumcha. this may have been one occasion, the first after many years of good food followed by a long gap of nearly five years, but it was enough to discourage from further visits - and almost definitely not for dimsum. the place is packed as it's always been - a phenomenon that was pretty surprising to us at the end of our meal - and its glamorous interior clearly meticulously maintained. I only wish such attention was paid to our food and our meal. it feels rather a waste to tell you what we had - so I shan't. the best dish of the day was perhaps a dish of greens with lily bulbs and tofu skin, and putien's rendition (though slightly different in execution) puts it to shame. none of the dimsum was inedible or terrible, of course, but you don't expect it to be. but I direct you to the paradise group, or yum cha for a better meal - and at much better prices. hotel chinese dining is usually expensive - they come with a pedigree and quality not necessarily attainable at less costly places - but I was pretty annoyed upon paying the bill here. even the sang meen, that cantonese restaurant mainstay of crispy fried noodles served with a dark gravy and seafood, was uninspiring (to say the least). I can't say if it was perfect when it came out of the kitchen, but it spent a careless and incredible amount of time sitting on the waiting table next to us, where we got increasingly concerned - and annoyed - looking at it, as time passed. trying to get attention was pretty futile as our attendant was busy at another table - and when the noodles finally arrived, they had lost their crispness, and taken on an unappealing sponginess from having soaked up all that gravy. the seafood was also of alkali-soaked bouncy consistency, which I attribute more to my local coffee-shop than a restaurant such as this. even the desserts were just so - and my herbal jelly wasn't even fragrantly bitter or firm (it seemed more like a slightly more elastic grass jelly). so, can you tell I was annoyed? bear in mind that servings of dimsum are twice the price they would usually be, tea is served and priced at extravagant per-cup prices (acceptable if they actually had some sort of flavor), and service seems both harried and impossible to get. I hope it a one-off, and I certainly wish you a better meal than mine.

Yelp
It was very late at night so most restaurants have already closed. The staff are very friendly. The food is just ok, especially for Singapore standard. I have ordered theLobster noodle and roast duck. The roast duck is pretty good but the lobster noodle is strange. If you want to have noodle, this will not be your dish. There is a tiny ball of noodle and then half the lobster. You can really enjoy either one.

Yelp
Visited twice: First time alone, then with a larger group. Both times I experienced excellent food and attentative service. Pricey, though
