Baltimore’s 38 Essential Restaurants

"An unassuming haven on Falls Road just a few blocks from “The Avenue,” (Hampden’s offbeat dining and shopping destination), Good Neighbor’s enchanting storefront and tranquil outdoor garden sells lovely, functional ceramics; sleek, modern furniture; and books so pretty they should be judged by their covers. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg: Chef Durian Neal has created a menu of chaat dinner plates and playful breakfast toasts that are as thoughtfully considered as everything else at Good Neighbor." - Jess Mayhugh, J.B. Good Neighbour Review - Tooting - London - The Infatuation

"Being the selfless individuals that we are, we’d like to volunteer to be Good Neighbour’s good neighbour. We’ll keep the music down and they can pop round to borrow some sugar any time they want if we’re able to have easy access to their gorgonzola and walnut gnocchi. A five-minute walk from Tooting Broadway station, this place is perfect when you’re in the mood for a bit-of-this and a bit-of-that. Read as: the small plates are excellent and everything on the menu has that Mediterranean feel that will go great with a spritz. Although the menu changes seasonally, our game plan here is to go with a couple of our favourite friends - A.K.A. people we can trust not to hog the fried feta with honey - and order every single one of the sharing plates. Plus, thanks to the exposed brick and buzzy counter, Good Neighbour screams big third date potential. The wine list is a real winner too." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

I had a business meeting at 10:30 on a Tuesday. The service was great, friendly, helpful, and welcoming. After we placed our order we sat outside, what a delightful space! I know they had no control over the weather, but this was the perfect place to be on a beautiful day. LOVE!!!!

Google
nice cafe with lots of fun seating—definitely recommend as a study spot! we got the strawberry fields matcha drink and ice lattes with strawberry syrup. both were pretty good, although we couldn’t really taste the strawberry in the lattes.

A lovely café with a great selection of coffee and tea options. They offer a small but delicious variety of pastries, sourced from Kneads Bakery. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for catching up with a friend or getting some work done. There's also a small library and a charming shop featuring local and unique food items, pottery, and cups—definitely worth browsing. We tried the smoked maple cappuccino and the hojicha latte—both were excellent. Absolutely worth a visit and might just become one of your regular spots!

Yelp
Went here for a Creative Mornings event, and what a gorgeous space! Th3 event was held outside, in their green space, and on top of the hill, they have a plant house, not sure if you can go in there, but the woman at the desk was giving me a run down on top of the cafe is an airbnb/hotel. The coffee shop is cute, and because I ate at the event I didn't have room to try anything, but I saw a couple plated and they gave a yum factor. Street parking

Yelp
The aesthetic of this shop is perfect. We dropped by for breakfast and we able to get a seat outside on the back deck, which was perfectly in the shade. We placed our orders, which were brought out to us with no problem. I was nervous about the mustard on the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, but it was actually a pleasant surprise. The sandwich came out heart-shaped too-- and it just happened to be our anniversary! After we ate, we got a plant from the greenhouse, making it a one stop shop. I will be back in the future.

Yelp
Omg! This place is breath taking. The environment is so peaceful and quiet. After a long day of hiking I decided to stop by for coffee. Ended up trying a recommended that one of employees had recommended. His recommendation was perfect . I will surely be returning.

Yelp
The cutest and coziest coffee shop I have been to in a while! I was looking for a spot to hang out before a 9am meeting and I'm so glad I stumbled upon good neighbor. There is only street parking, which isn't surprising given the location on Falls Rd. Once inside, the vibe is warm and welcoming. There was a pretty sizable menu that I didn't spend that much time reading through. The kitchen opens at 8am so if you're looking to grab a bite, make sure to not arrive too early (they open at 7am) or have some patience. I loved the different seating options and the books for sale. Both restrooms are also clean and accessible so thumbs up for that. The free WiFi was also very strong. I'm furious about how busy and/or loud things get later in the day but I don't hesitate to come back and enjoy the vibes. See you soon, good neighbor.

Yelp
Fancy-pants coffee! So freaking YUM! I love a good creative concoction curated by knowledgeable espresso artists! Added flavors really do play a huge role when it comes to espresso tonics--Good Neighbor excels in their tonic options. The pomegranate tonic is my favorite.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely love this Hampden gem! The coffee is superb and vibes are excellent. The staff are all very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. Recently came back for a quick breakfast and everyone in my group loved our toasts. The seating inside fills up fast but there's plenty of outdoor space to enjoy fresh air now that the weather is warmer. Can't wait to come back to they their happy hour snacks and drinks!
google avatar

Yelp
This street front cafe blends artsy vibe and your best friends living room (if it had lots of books and some cool curated art and pottery. The coffee is great, they have daily and seasonal choice. We really have liked the food we have gotten as well. Fun fact is they switch to a happy hour around 3 and will sometimes have art collabs. Their outdoor space is on a hilly terrace hidden to the street and holds several seating areas, pebbled pathways, an amphitheater space, shade from trees sails and umbrellas and most fun- an active greenhouse

Yelp
good neighbor is your quintessential hipster bougie spot. I've been here a handful of times - and love getting their harvest bowl. It's brioche, fruit and cream with sumac, and it's craveable! I'm drooling thinking about it. The prices are a little highter - as I mentioned, it's hipster bougie and they sell lots of fun and decorative items. The staff never makes you feel like you're not welcome. The wifi isn't very fast, I've tried to work here a few times and was unable to log into my email. good neighbor feels like an oasis - they also have an amazing outdoor seating area, and a garden, and I think a small hotel in the back? Great coffee and one of my favorite breakfast items in the area. They had sold out of the harvest bowl the last time I went, so get here early!

Yelp
Sometimes, it's hard for a cafe to be design-forward and cozy. It's often one or the other. Good Neighbor nails both. Located in Hampden, Good Neighbor is a quaint cafe that's beautiful to walk into. The bar is in the center with many tables and cozy corners to work or read. They have a full coffee, tea, and food menu. My vanilla latte was one of the most creamy and flavorful ones I've had in Baltimore. They sell local coffee beans, cards, magazines, dish ware, and so much more.
google avatar

Yelp
Clam block and east to find parking. Coffee has a nice flavor and acidity. They do some different kinds of coffee from Japan which was interesting to see. Breakfast sandwich also a little pricey ($12) was on nice bread and cheese was melted. Worth checking out

Yelp
I got the Vietnamese iced coffee and I loved it. the employees were very nice and the atmosphere was cool, a nice place to sit and do homework.

Yelp
I remember when they first opened so I'm so happy that they are still here and have really grown. I ordered a latte I'm not usually an oat milk drinker but this was surprisingly delicious. As always they took my order when I first walked in. Not the greeting I was used to from the door as the young lady didn't speak until she was taking my order but she was also busy helping the guy in the back out a lot. I ordered my coffee and my breakfast sandwich. The coffee was delivered in under 7 mins. However I waited roughly around 30 mins for my sandwich. Which by the time I got my sandwich I had already finished my coffee. The sandwich was made on the most delicious bread and chili oil. As always this coffee shop is filled with surprises in every corner. They sell a-lot of products from small owned businesses which is really nice. The decor is inviting and welcoming. And on a nice day you can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Yelp
I enjoyed Good Neighbor! Came here on a rainy morning and ordered a cappuccino and their bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Coffee was standard and good, the sandwich was also good but nothing too crazy. Would have loved the option to add hot sauce or something spicy as that's how I tend to prefer my eggs. The space itself is really cute and comfortable. I liked how you could shop some of their home items as well. The people helping were friendly and helped me out when I was confused. Would definitely return!

Yelp
Good Neighbor is such a charming coffee shop. It's away from the more touristy part of Bmore. Besides selling coffee, they also have a fun selection of homegoods and gifts. My boyfriend and I had a really fun time looking through all these unique and cute tchotchkes. It looks like a lot of people come here to work, most people had laptops when they came. We came here to get coffee and read. Do know it gets really busy. We had to wait for a table to open up for us and the line was almost out the door. The line goes pretty fast though. I ordered an iced matcha latte which was pretty good. He got a drip coffee and liked it. The people who work here are really kind and cool. The decor has a modern wooden aesthetic. I'd recommend checking this coffee shop out.

Yelp
Good neighbor blew me away. Looking from the outside you wouldn't think it but it's a magical place. It's such a distinctive coffee shop that also houses a unique mini boutique hotel. The food and coffee were delicious. The entire place smelled heavenly and the staff and service were very kind and prompt. The ambiance was very warm, spacious, and inviting. I honestly didn't want to leave. There are plenty of outdoor and indoor seating available. Another thing I liked about them is that everything in the store is up for sale. If you want some unique pieces in your home- this is your place. Definitely going back.

Yelp
I loved this coffee shop in Hampden. It just gives *esthetic*, with it's chic, minimalist decor and Le Labo toiletries. The staff follows the same vibe, so friendly they are not, but that's OK. I ordered the pumpkin spicy latte, which was good, though I would've liked more of the chili syrup to come through. The BLT was excellent. You can also buy home goods here and the curated selection was on point, with sundries that include Diaspora Co. products, one of my faves. I dig the offerings and the design and I'd return if in the area.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with good neighbor. The coffee, the food and the vibes. The service is welcoming, kind and consistent.

Yelp
Tried good neighbor for the first time with a friend for an afternoon coffee date. I was disappointed that there were no food options, but the latte I had was pretty good.
google avatar

Sadie N.

Yelp
Got an iced coffee while visiting this area. Super cool concept to have an indoor and outdoor space, with a garden shop to explore alongside. Coffees were received fast and delivered to our table way far outside, so that was a nice treat for service!
google avatar

Kelli J.

Yelp
I came here for an event. What a beautiful hidden gem. I didn't partake in the food and drink selection, however, the space is lovely including the plant garden and outdoor space. Looks like a cool working space, will definitely come back and try the menu items.
google avatar

Ciarra W.

Yelp
Love good neighbor. Reminds me of LA's coffee shops. They have a beautiful indoor/outdoor area to work at (with wifi) and chill by yourself or with friends. Coffee is good and the food is pretty solid. I always get the PB&J Toast! They also sell cute little goods and have a great selection of art books. Love the energy in here.
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
Great coffee and a wonderful location (indoor and outdoor) that is unmatched by the management and service experience. The space can be cold at times and industrial but that does not match the interior deco vibe. Come for the coffee and go out back to look at the plants.
google avatar

Cecilia T.

Yelp
The coffee is delicious, the cups are solid and beautiful, and the vibe inside is very hipster chill. However, it will take fully forever to get your order. This is a place to linger, not to visit if you're in a rush.
google avatar

Kiana B.

Yelp
Their spicy pumpkin latte is one of the best coffees I have ever had, but the price did seem outrageous. Vibes were perfect for working and quieter chatting, definitely not a loud space.
google avatar

Katriel K.

Yelp
Bring back the fig syrup please. Love the home made syrups. Our favorite was the fig, hoping they bring that back sometime.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Coolest cafe alert! This space is part home goods store and part coffee shop, with plenty of seating (and potentially some food, although I think they had stopped serving food by the time I visited). The decor is straight out of a Pinterest mood board and I wish I could make my apartment mimic the decor. The staff was friendly and quick. I tried their specialty latte - a rose cardamom espresso drink. The flavor was subtle and delicious, neither too sweet nor too floral, but the drink had a weird bit of a grainy texture that I couldn't quite move past. Would definitely go back again for a classic iced latte.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
The drinks and food were great! I got the Japanese iced coffee as well as iced roasted matcha ( there's a name for it but I don't remember). Both had great flavors and very smooth as well. So their coffee game is strong, however their customer service skills are lacking. For the first order, I got the iced matcha and shroom naan! I received the drink in about 7 minutes which is reasonable but the food, I did not receive. I gave them the benefit of the doubt so waited about 35 minutes before I said anything. Yes, it was busy but I noticed the people after me getting their foods. So I finally went up to the counter after about 35 minutes to find out what the hold up was. They didn't have a clue so I had to explain to them. There was no apology, nothing. There was no sense of urgency whatsoever so I had to wait another 10 minutes. I also ordered another drink before I left, the Japanese iced coffee which was flavorful and smooth. The ambience is fine, nothing impressive - It looks much better in pictures! Will I return?! Definitely not

Yelp
I really like this place but today I had the worst cortado I've ever experienced. If the presentation was bad then the taste was poor. It really looked like someone just poured cream on a shot of espresso. I'd complain but the guy who made it dgaf. Hopefullly next time it's not training day on the cortados.
google avatar

Teah R.

Yelp
Such a cool coffee shop! Open concept with lots of things to buy and read. The book shelves were full of design books. They have a huge outdoor space that would be awesome to experience in the warmer months. I ordered a breakfast sandwich that did take awhile to cook. It looked like they only had one toaster oven for the whole place. We ended up taking it outside even though it was chilly but it was really nice sitting in the sun. The staff was really friendly too!
google avatar

Aundya A.

Yelp
This coffee shop is one of my favorites when I'm in town. In the winter, this shop is extra cozy and warm. The latte and cappuccino were very tasty, and the sandwiches were extremely good. Highly recommend their Orange Tarragon (OT) Latte. Their chickpea tuna flat sandwich was really tasty, and it was a great vegetarian option for lunch. The baristas were very friendly, and they carefully hand wrapped a mug we purchased as a gift with lots of care and thoughtfulness.

Yelp
Classy coffee shop and gift store and book store...great place for a first date or a catch up with friends spot not so much a let's crank out a term paper spot. Coffee was top notch! Friendly people work there.
google avatar

Yelp
Good neighbor is a very hip, gourmet coffee shop that also sells simple but aesthetically pleasing stoneware dishes among other things. When you walk in, it feels like you are walking into an architectural firm or a design studio. All of the decor is carefully thought out to make the place feel comfortable but also cool. There's tons of plants everywhere, which they used to sell in the store but now they have built a separate plant store up the hill (which is equally great). And the coffee is also very hip with craft pour overs and lots of specialty drinks. I always end up getting whatever seasonal version they have of an espresso on iced seltzer water. It's usually the Allie Americano, but sometimes they have a fall version. Not a conventional drink but it's so good, especially since I'm a sucker for seltzer! This time I tried their food for the first time and it was absolutely delicious! I got the sweet sunset, and it was sweet but not overwhelmingly so. I'm excited to try other things on the menu. Now most places like this end up being really pretentious and not friendly (I'm looking at you ceremony and DoGood), but every time I go in here, the staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. I love their expanded outdoor space too! It's beautiful and there's tons of seating and shade! The last thing to address are the prices. It is a bit of a bougie cafe, so you are going to pay more but the drinks are good, fresh, creative, the ambiance is lovely, and the service is great. I would rather pay $6 for a drink here than in another cafe where you can feel the snobbery as soon as you open the door.

Yelp
This coffee shop was incredible! I ordered the Japanese style iced coffee (brewed cold, I was told) and it was very flavorful. The shop seemed chill and I wish I had more time to enjoy the ambience. The store items looked high quality and well chosen. Definitely worth a visit!

Ramona W.

Yelp
The owner has done a great vision with esthetics. The customer service phenomenal also great coffee. Not from this area and randomly chose this spot I've been to many coffee shops but non like this. Thank you guys for the amazing experience.

Jiwon L.

Yelp
Great outdoor space for family and friends. Street parking but not around a busy area so pretty easy to find parking. Coffee is not great and took us 30 minutes to get our order. We had a toddler who had an allergic reaction to something there in the cafe and while the lady who served us was prompt in alerting the manager, there was no and poor follow up. We thought it was from the scone and was told to call the kneads bread company ourselves. The lady said if we called, they would know but I had to call multiple times to get through to someone and they didn't even know who I was or the circumstances surrounding the event. When I finally got the ingredient list, there was nothing that my toddler was allergic to, and we spoke to her pediatrician a few times, and concluded it may be the napkins they use. I wanted to email the owner to let them know how poorly this is managed by the team, and especially the manager, however, I haven't had the chance or the energy to do so. I'm hoping that the staff is properly trained in such circumstances. Additionally, the bakery also did tell me that there may be cross contamination with peanut or nut products from where the bakery items are manufactured. However, the cafe had not properly labeled this. Regardless, please have an ingredients list for goodness sake for people that may have a severe allergy.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance, nice outdoor seating. Pretty quiet, would recommend nice place to study or meet up :)
google avatar

Gloria N.

Yelp
Really good coffee in a small shop! Service was quick despite it being very busy on the weekends. Keep in mind the shop is small, so there's not a lot of seating for you to sit around. Along the walls of the store, there are shelves of items for purchase that range from kitchen items to condiments to coffee. Would definitely recommend to visit :). They also serve some food items if you're not interested in getting coffee or any of the other drinks they offer.
google avatar

Esther G.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere. The rose coffee was delicious and the bacon, egg and cheese on sourdough was so good!
google avatar

Anushka M.

Yelp
Really nice place to get work done! Inside is really aesthetic and they sell several things from candles to books, other household items and of course coffee and food. I got an iced vanilla latte and luckily was able to grab a table right when someone left. Otherwise it may be hard to find seating. The building itself is over 100 years old and good neighbor has managed to keep that charm. Overall this was a great stop and I wish I was able to spend more time to look through everything they were selling too.
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
I'm just gonna say it. This place is super cute. Love the outdoor space. Love the ambiance..But the staff member I ordered from was not well versed in coffee culture. They guy taking my order literally knew nothing about coffee. And basically got the order totally wrong. Not to mention this place is not inexpensive. Then I had to wait about 10-15 minutes before my drink was even called. Not sure what was going on but the place wasn't even incredibly busy on a Sunday morning. I'm super sad because I would have loved to make this a spot to go in the weekend. SMH

Yelp
Still loving this coffee spot in Hampden. The perfect place to grab a bite, shop for some unique home goods, or sit outside and enjoy the afternoon. Their toasts are my favorite from the menu - they are to die for and are made with extra love and care and the service is always top notch!

Yelp
New fave place to chill and do work! Good coffee. Good food. Cool, stylish, friendly workers with great music tastes no matter which one of them chose the playlist that day lol. DEF Insta worthy!!! So glad I found this cafe in Hampden!! Hampden is prob one of my fave little neighborhoods in Baltimore. Good neighbor is a short walk from the Main Street where everything is at, however there's a good amount of shops and restaurants around here too! Also easy to find parking. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Has clean bathrooms and extra points for providing sanitary products too. Inside has a lot of cute ceramic mugs, cups, plates, more kitchen gadgets, candles, other home things.. they're all so cute (and pricey). There's also wine, tea, spices, and more!! Check out their green house outside as well! Many unique plants and also a nice floral arrangement kinda shop too. I love it here it's so cute omg. Coffee is good. I liked their chickpea toast and it was pretty filling actually. More of a sweet toast. Overall great cute place. It's cute idk how many times I'll say it's cute but it fr is!! Come here if you like coffee, plants, mugs, artsy sht.

Yelp
Good Neighbor is a beautiful, super minimal, good vibes kind of coffee shop. A really nice modern addition to Baltimore! They have a greenhouse that sells plants and garden supplies next door owned by the infamous amazing plant decor expert - Hilton Carter. Such a great idea to have a coffee shop space next door. There is a good amount of indoor seating - a communal style table, individual small tables and some comfy lounging areas. There is also some outdoor space with tables in front of the greenhouse. Inside, they also have books and different items for sale. And of course, beautiful plants everywhere. The service has always been excellent for us. Everyone is super friendly, accommodating and helpful! The coffee here is EXCELLENT. Definitely the best coffee I have had in the city! The Honey Orange Tarragon latte is AMAZING. The espresso is so smooth and delicious. The Chai, Matcha and Ginger Rose in house made soda are also excellent. Prices are on the higher end, but worth the quality!

Yelp
I have been here twice so far and I really love it! The atmosphere is pretty fun. Well lit, a bit busy though. The only reason for 4 stars is because it can be a bit challenging finding a seat if busy. So far I have tried a Japanese style iced coffee and the chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad sandwich was delish! It was a surprise with delicious roasted pulled chicken that had a curry flavor! Yum! Today I tried the rose cardamom latte iced with oat milk (made in house flavoring/syrup). Delicious! I am drinking it as I write this review. This drink in fact made me want to post a review. The cardamom notes are subtle with a hint of floral notes from the rose, but there's just enough of an espresso flavor to make a distinction between tea and coffee if that makes sense. I will definitely be back soon, and this drink will be ordered again...with possibly another tasty treat! Cheers!

Yelp
Drove to this area for a FB marketplace purchase and found this sweet little gem. I absolutely love this place. The salad I got and my chai, and I love their cups and plates. The people were chill & kind behind the counter. I was really able to get some work done here. Even though its and hour away, I wish I could come every day!

Yelp
I've passed by good neighbor several times and even followed the brand assuming it was just a niche home goods store. To my surprise they also are a full coffee shop with breakfast bites! You walk in and in the center of the place is where you order your coffee and feed and get to watch the employees. I admit it was kinda of a weird/interesting choice to me aesthetically to have the barista station be open concept but the space is beautifully executed so I can't complain. I do wish there was more indoor seating but the outdoor deck was so spacious and clean I hardly minded sitting outside. I ended up ordering the Japanese coffee, chicken salad, and PB&J toast. The iced coffee was nice but the star of the show was really the curry chicken salad sandwich! The sourdough was toasted perfectly and the chicken wasn't dry or anything. I'm also any-raisin and there was nothing of the sorts in the sandwich. The pb&j was also surprisingly tasty, the brioche bread was fluffy and the jam used tasted like tart and fresh. You can tell this place invests in the quality of their ingredients and doesn't just care about being a ~vibey~ space for people to hang out at. I ended up buying an onyx coffee too which is hard to come by in stores! They also sell seasonings, olive oil, jams etc., everything for kitchen needs. The prices are also reasonable if you like to invest in your home gear, overall I'd say good neighborhood is a well curated coffee shop and overall retail space. Can't wait to come back and try a seasonal coffee flavor next!

Yelp
Good Neighbor is serving up cups of joe and small bites in their chic, Hampden digs. When you walk into Good Neighbor, you're greeted with a beautiful open layout design that flows from the front door, to the coffee bar, over to the cozy seating areas. One of the first things I noticed about Good Neighbor is the large selection of pottery and glassware on the built in shelves. If you love mid-century modern style, you will want to buy every single piece of pottery there! They even have a small bookshelf with a few books for sale. I was greeted by a friendly barista who patiently told me about each of the pastries on the menu that day. I ended up ordering a goat cheese/spinach/onion/sundried tomato pastry (don't think it had a name) and an oat milk iced latte. I was a little disappointed that the pastry couldn't be heated up. When I asked, it seemed like the barista had no way of heating it up which I thought was a little strange for a coffee shop. Nevertheless, I grabbed my order after a brief wait and headed out back to see the real star of the show: their outdoor space. There is a large deck with several different tables and chairs looking out at the sizable garden. There's even umbrellas to help shield you from the strong sun. Steps up the hill will lead you to the greenhouse - I didn't get a chance to check that out but it looked really cool from the outside! When I was there, there was a little bit of commotion as they were setting up for a wedding. All in all, Good Neighbor is a great local spot for a pick-me-up and their outdoor space makes it easy to spread out, enjoy a good book, and catch some sun rays.

This place is definitely a good time, great taste place !! Today was my 2nd visit and equally as great. I met a friend for midday beverages, toast and girl talk and she was impressed. We both spent at least 30 minutes admiring the calm, tranquil and welcoming atmosphere as we enjoyed our Butter Toast, Lavender Vanilla Latte and Jasmine Pearl Hot Tea. The Butter Toast was cute, soft, unique and yum. It has the perfect cinnamon taste that isn't overbearing. Although we ordered 2 different hot beverages, our descriptions were similar. We both commented on how smooth the taste was and there was no separation or after taste from beverage sweetener. Just smooooootthhhh. I will most definitely revisit this place again. I appreciate the work space provided as well as the serene atmosphere. If you haven't visited, what are you waiting for?
