"This Richardson restaurant specializes in Gujarati-style thali. Try the dal dhokli — savory steamed chickpea flour cakes topped with mustard seeds that come with sweet and sour tamarind chutney and fresh green cilantro chutney. Also excellent is the Gujarati thali, a set meal with long grain rice, legume stews, pickles, vegetables, papads or paper-thin crispy crackers from black lentils." - Courtney E. Smith, Didi Paterno

"Identifiable by the iconic metal trays this tiny restaurant uses to serve thali, this place specializes in Gujarat and Rajasthan cuisine with some dishes more well-known in the West, like chaat, puris, and samosas. As the name indicates, it is vegetarian. There is limited seating, so expect to wait during its busiest hours." - Courtney E. Smith

Google
Probably the best Gujarati food i had until now. Gujarati thali was fulfilling, loved the curries. The desserts can be little bit harder, the inside looked little bit small and you might find hard to park especially during busy hours.

Neel Raval

Google
Food was simple and sober, nothing extra. You can find homemade food option. We had high hopes on thali but due to that day subji selection we couldn’t get best out of it. Methi gota is a must try. Pro tip: call before and try to know subji of the day. (Which we didn’t do)

Ambar Dudhane

Google
very average taste. Ordered khasta kachori chaat and chai. Chaat had watery curd and tasted very average. Chai was watery too abd barely had any masala. Also, restaurant seemed bit dirty too.

Initially stopped here to see what they have. But when I realized it was vegetarian I thought I will give it a shot. The food doesn’t taste bad. If I had to rate it out of 10, I would say maybe 5 at best. I personally wasn’t too excited. Possibly because I was expecting it to be better based on all the reviews. I ordered one plate to go. Had about 4 sides and some rice. The food wasn’t too expensive, but considering what I got I am not sure I would say it was worth it. The gentleman that took the order was polite but my interaction with him was a bit awkward. Not sure if it was the language barrier. I won’t be going back again. Plenty of parking.

Nandu Ramani

Google
Good quality Gujarati food and decent service. Hole in the wall. Don't get fooled by the outside. They have tried to up the decor.

Google
The food caters to a North Indian palate. If you are unfamiliar with Gujarati cuisine, I would recommend you look into it before ordering, as some might find the flavor to not match what they might expect in other restaurants. The taste is like home made food and can warm your soul depending upon your home cuisine. The staff were helpful and accommodating.

This is a small vegetarian restaurant with interesting decorations. The three people that were working there were very kind and helpful. The food I ordered was just okay and didn't taste too great for me to want to come back.

Google
Really amazing Gujrati food. Their Dal Dhokli hit the spot, authentic taste just like how I remember it from my hometown. I also had the thali with Bajri Rotla, value for money and all the dishes on thali were absolutely delicious! (The picture was taken halfway through dinner ;p)

Yelp
It has been years since I first started eating at Gopal. I wanted to update my review. This is one of my favorite restaurants in DFW. Such good quality and kind service. Today I had the small Thali, dal option. It still filled me so full! Today my companion said it was their first visit to Gopal and they loved it! I wish I could eat here every day.

Yelp
We stopped for Saturday lunch! Place is small with limited seating. We were seated right away. Ordered 4 Small Thali's Paneer Kulcha, Paneer Paratha, Aloo Paratha(2). Side order of puri and roti. Food came out very quickly and everything was served hot. Aloo paratha's were huge! Paneer curry and Dal were delicious. Owner noticed that we were with little ones and gave them complimentary Aam Ras to go with Puri and Roti. Definitely recommend this place for vegetarian food lovers. Also recommend to get there early as place fills up fast

Bhairav M.

Yelp
They overcharge and served cold food. In name of Gujarati food they are serving dry, bland and stale food.

Gill S.

Yelp
This is probably the most homey South Indian Food place I've been to. It's small, has a decent amount of decorations, and definitely feels like mom and pop. There's one booth dedicated to paperwork with a fax machine/printer and a bunch of paper in the booth. Their mango lassi is amazing! Creamy, full of mango flavor, and a nice tang. Everything I could ask for in a mango lassi. While the meal was good, this was my favorite part! The menthi paratha is ok, but I wish it were more warm and flaky. It certainly had plenty of menthi in it. The veggies were tasty, the soup was good, and the crackers had a decent seasoning to them. The karchu kartori (or however you spell it), was like an oversized ball of pani puri! Had a good balance between dry and wet. I could see the fresh vegetables that they cut up and use in this, which all means its fresh and homemade!

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! Best Indian in the DFW area hands down. So flavorful and delicious- coming from someone who grew up in London with lots of authentic Indian food- this place is just so good. We got pani puri which was great- then pav bhaji (best pav bhaji I've ever had), then the assorted tray. The mango lassi was also delicious. Everything was great. We can't wait to come back and try other things. The waitress was lovely and we were helped with deciding on what to choose as well. It seemed very homey too.

Vipin J.

Yelp
Authentic Indian food. It's a hole in the wall, so don't expect great ambiance but the team is very good and service is great. We go there so often that they all know us now.

Vinod M.

Yelp
Can't believe a restaurant so untidy, very very dirty place, toilets so dirty, imagine the state of kitchen and cooking. Staff appearance so dirty. Can't believe such dirty restaurant in USA.

Farheen I.

Yelp
I really wish they would do a Ramsey style deep clean of this place, because there were cockroaches in broad daylight on the ground. The food is pretty authentic and tasty, but it doesn't make me want to come back given the cleanliness of the seating area. I can only imagine how much worse it is in the kitchen. Our water jug wasn't cleaned properly (crusted something on the sides and bottom). Cutlery and plates are stainless steel so now makes me question how they clean their cutlery. Honestly, do not recommend given the sanitary issues. PS, would gladly pay a few dollars more a plate if they will reinvest in cleaning up this restaurant.

Paula C.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The staff is super nice. I'm not too familiar with Indian food, but our waiter was so nice and patient with all my questions. The food is DELICIOUS! I absolutely loved the Khasta Kachori. Their many Thali options are wonderful. Great food at great prices. I highly recommend the his little spot. My boyfriend and I will definitely be coming back.

Natarajan R.

Yelp
Their snacks are awesome. Very tasty and fresh food, just like what you make at home They don't serve too many items but then have a decent spread and maintain the same quality be it snack or main course.

Dr. Jeremy H.

Yelp
The best food in Dallas!!!! I love the flavor and the great service that is provided. This Indian food is authentic and gives you the sense of incredible divine fulfillment. Thank you all for your service and genuineness.

Jannifer K.

Yelp
I enjoyed a fantastic lunch with my mom here a few days ago. When we came in, the shop was quiet with just a few customers seated and eating their food. I ordered a tray with an assortment of curries, breading, rice, and a little dessert and everything was delicious! There was a good balance of sweet and savory flavors with just the right amount of spice; and although the entire dish was vegetarian, it was so filling that I didn't even need to eat dinner later in the day...all this for just $14! This may be a hole in the wall, but it is truly a gem and I will definitely be back!

Pam ..

Yelp
Been here several times, the food is consistently great. People are very kind. Would recommend trying any of the varieties of food there.

KT S.

Yelp
Too spicy, not a lot of options available and not that delicious. Tried two times and both times similar experience.

Allison S.

Yelp
This is an authentic hole in the wall. The menu doesn't have a description of what each item is so unless you're really familiar with Indian cuisine, you'll need to google some words. The staff was attentive and the food was delicious. I saw and tried things I hadn't had at other Indian restaurants so I'll be back.

Anoop I.

Yelp
This is a bit of a hole in the wall, but don't let that deter you. What they perhaps lack in ambience and space, they make up in taste, authenticity, and simplicity. They serve home style vegetarian Gujarati meals. I had their small thali for dinner. It came with undhiyu, gujarati dal, and bhindi (okra). It was quite good. We also shared a paapdi chaat plate, which was nice as well. If you're Gujarati, or if you enjoy vegetarian Gujarati food, do try it out.

Dipesh P.

Yelp
Wow. If you are familiar with Gujarati food you will love this place. Gujarati food is from an area in India called Gujarat (Northwest India). The food is vegetarian and based on a lot of vegetables and roti (kind of like a tortilla). Anyways, the life parter had a hankering for a particular dish (Pav bhaji) on New Year's Day so we called ahead to make sure they were one open and two had the dish in stock. Yes to both so we were on our way with two little ones both under the age of 3. The ambiance is super hole in the wall but the hospitality is legit authentic. Not the most hospitable hosts but it's not in a bad way. We ordered several dishes and the woman taking our order even recommended we order less because we got carried away! We had to explain that life partner LOVES ordering so we always over order and take leftover home. She was good with our explanation. The food itself is very tasty. Not very oily which a lot of this kind of food can be. The authenticity was the best part and they even entertained our 1 year old! Great spot in Richardson.

Balaji R.

Yelp
Really disappointed with the food . Restaurant was small and ambience wasn't great , but was hoping the food would be great . Really disappointed with the food. Services was fine and folks were friendly

Rashmi S.

Yelp
Best vegetarian Gujrati food in the DFW area. Family owned and owners are very nice. Quality of the food is so good. We don't mind driving about 25 miles to eat this food. Must try for dine in or catering.. Like any other businesses, they have also been impacted by current situation and short staffed. So come with patience and enjoy yummy food.

Aayushi B.

Yelp
The Best Indian vegetarian restaurant in Dallas- vada pav, parathas, dhokla aany authentic thali they serve is perfect. Just the servers are not good at all, very weird and has no sense of customer service. Even the manager made me forcefully donate 10 USD for 5 USD Isckon book. I regularly visit Iskon temples and I know you should never force donations. I wish they give better service. So order takeouts as the food is the best Indian Gujarati food in Dallas.

Rishikesh P.

Yelp
Its a dream come true for a Indian Vegetarian in Dallas. After coming to US, missing authentic Indian food for months, I finally found an Indian restaurant that has proper veg food. My Gujarati friend went nuts when he found out they have undhiyo. Really good restaurant, service was prompt, a little small, but the food is amazing, will remind you of India. Recommend you order any Thali, all are good.

Eesen S.

Yelp
Some of the best Indian food I've had - their thali, dal dhokli, and chole batura are amazing! Very friendly owner and great service - highly recommend coming here!

Dhanish P.

Yelp
Easily one of the best vegetarian Indian restaurants in Dallas. All the food is classic home recipes with fresh food made daily. The owners are long time Dallas natives and good people as well.

Khizar A.

Yelp
Would give it a 0 if I could, went at 12:20pm the sat us down without saying anything. Then he slammed the water jug and metal glass next to us and left..felt like he was very upset or just racist. We decided to go elsewhere.

Monali D.

Yelp
I love their Thalis, especially the one with bajrana rotis. I don't think any other place in Dallas has an option with bajrana roti. I come here often to have the bajrana Thali. A hole in the wall, this place has authentic Gujarati food which is run by a family. They also have snacks and chaat, samosa is amazing so close to that you get in India, lilva kachori which is filled with green peas is yumm but ragda pattis was not that great. Highly recommend this place for thaalis, I'll definitely be going back for more! :)

Nidhi U.

Yelp
Just avoid this place. We tried the pav bhaji, sev puri and khasta kachori. Khasta kachori were dry and ice cold. Pav Bhajji was high on ginger and the packs were plastered with butter without actually roasting them. Sev puri was average.

Ro C.

Yelp
Most authentic Gujarati food I have tasted in DFW! Rajula's is ok but this tastes like home cooking. The sweets are good too!

Manish J.

Yelp
Good place for vegetarian lunch food. Freshly prepared and home like It's a no frills place and owner is a nice person

Bala N.

Yelp
The best Gujarati Thali we have had in North Dallas. It's close to a 30 mile one way drive for us but wouldn't mind making that for the food. The parking lot is a bit poorly designed so it would be good to come when there are less crowds I suppose. We got to-go so it didn't matter much. The food was A+ for sure.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Affordable, authentic vegetarian Indian food with top notch service. The servers were really great. It was a warm summer evening inside and tables were filled with families dining together. I quickly ordered one of their daily specials, roti shaak, that comes with 2 vegetables of the day (I have no idea what I got), 4 hot, fresh roti, and more. The food was so flavorful, hot and so spicy! I happy ate sans utensils while listening to the conversations around me. I felt like I had been transported to India. It was wonderful and I can't wait to go back and try more, especially their paratha and thali!

Vijay Krissna V.

Yelp
Confused with the 4 star reviews this place has. Food was below par and placed appeared like it lacked hygiene. We ordered a couple of Thali's and the only edible offerings was the Paneer Mutter and the Parathas. Dal was way too sweet and watery, Khadi was watery with no flavor. Dhoklas were very good and a must try. Kachori was cold and tasted like it was pulled out of a refrigerator. Chole Bhature was forgotten and when asked towards the end of our meal where it was, we were told chole is ready and they need to make the batter for the Bhature. Overall confused with other reviews and ratings, this place deserves 2 stars at the best

Anirudh T.

Yelp
No drama .. just excellent Gujarati food.. Awesome bajra roti and curries were excellent. We also ordered kachori and chai .. awesome !!! Will 100% recommend this food for all vegetarians around ...

Cindy Blair H.

Yelp
I've been frequenting Gopal for 7yrs now. Every time has been just as delicious as the last. My favourite dish from Gopal's is Aloo Paratha. Hands down "Best in Town!" I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone look to try a genuine/authentic Indian restaurant.

Kay H.

Yelp
The best Indian food I ever had!!!! The flavors and the spices are soooo yummy. I didn't understand the menu, the names of the food were unfamiliar, so the waiter was so helpful. He asked me what I liked and said he would take care of me. He sure did! I loved everything he picked out. This is a five star place!!

Laveena B.

Yelp
Although I quite enjoy their food, the people running this place severely lack professionalism. Their abysmal service makes me wonder how they are still in business. They behave like they're doing you a favor by even taking your order. Plenty of grunts, minimal words and zero smiles. Not wanting to deal with the rude staff, I usually get take out orders. On most occasions they conveniently 'forget' to add some of the food. Of course, they never forget to charge for it. On calling to place an order during working hours, I was once yelled at to call later and was hung up on. I have even been told one time that my order was not ready because one of their Latina workers did not show up and how it was all her fault (because why just be unprofessional when you can be racist unprofessionals?) Their food may be good but their customer service is BEYOND appalling and unacceptable. Management if you're reading this - 1. Train your staff on some basic social skills 2. Stop short changing/cheating paying customers!

Suprateem G.

Yelp
Gujrati Thali is the best. Good family owned and run restaurant with Gujarati and some Mumbai food

Maithili S.

Yelp
Ordered take out of pau bhaji, Chole bhature, samosa and khasta kachori. I would say khasta was probably the best. Chole had a weird taste.

Ana K.

Yelp
I came here solo to treat myself for my birthday lunch, best decision ever! Really simple location, calm atmosphere, and AMAZING food. It's all vegetarian so it really worked out for me. The menu didn't have pictures and I'm not Indian, but you can ask an employee or look up the names on your phone. I personally just guessed and picked something random. It was so delicious, I couldn't stop telling the server how delicious it was! I probably told him like 7 times and even gave the cook a thumbs up. Then I FaceTime my friend to tell him how good it was! Totally going back--new favorite restaurant! The hype in the review is realz... Also, good pricing for the food.

Rahul G.

Yelp
I went solo for a weekday lunch. Once inside there's a sign that indicated "order here" near the back, so that's where I went. Once back there, I was informed that I should have a seat a waiter will come and take my order : ) They have a number of combination options and I ordered the "Roti Shaak" which is basically 4 rotis with 2 vegetables and a bowl of a slightly sweet/spicy sambar. The waiter indicated the food was medium spicy. The food came out and tasted great but was a little on the spicy side for me. Another waiter took pity upon me and brought a side serving of plain rice. This place does not have great ambiance but the food is great, the service is passable and prices are low. The salt shaker felt like it hadn't been cleaned in a decade or so. My hands were sticky after touching it. Yuk - cleanliness is what the one point ding is for.

Mike L.

Yelp
This is an impressive Indian food restaurant, offering vegetarian fare for a good price. My wife and I have seen the Gopal sign from the highway and always wondered what type of food was served. One day we decided to check it out. The exterior of the place is nondescript and somewhat deceiving. It's in a strip mall location, with other different stores around it. The interior was nice, homey and not too fancy. It's clean and there is enough seating for parties of 4-6. A pitcher of water is served with the meal in stainless steel dishes. I had a small particle floating in the water and they quickly replaced it with another. I highly suggest keeping the water b/c of the spiciness of some of the food. I would recommend, if you're not familiar with Indian cuisine, to review the menu a bit and understand what each item is. My wife and I are adventurous when it comes to food and willing to try whatever. However, we did have to Google a couple of things. Overall, we had a nice experience here and are glad we took a chance on going in. Enjoy!

Bob L.

Yelp
This food wasn't good, and I would go so far as to say that it wasn't even edible. I love Indian food in general. From what is available here in the US, to what is available inside of India. However, everything on this plate tasted off. I even ordered a couple pieces of jalebi, since they looked fresh, however they were nasty, and I couldn't finish them. I have no idea why this place is rated so high. One shining point, is that the staff is very friendly.

Jerry P.

Yelp
Excellent food. Don't know what anything is on the menu. You'll have to ask. But I've been here a number of times & just point & order. The server will tell you what it is if you ask. Simple vegetarian Indian place. Very much a "hole in the wall," but always good.

Raeesa H.

Yelp
Great vegetarian food! The service is awesome because the older Indian uncle who works here(owns the restaurant too I think) is super nice! The food is great, not too oily like most Indian restaurants. The chai really hit the spot and the uncle gave us complimentary laddoos (Indian dessert) at the end of the meal.

Khushboo S.

Yelp
Good thali. If you are looking for cheap tasty Gujarati food, this is a good place we found in dallas. We did a to go order of Gujarati thali and North Indian thali so cannot comment on ambience really. Best curry was Gujarati curry, aalu curry and paneer shak.

Ritesh B.

Yelp
Excellent Gujrati-Indian food. 100% vegetarian. Freshly made, just like you would get at home. Be wise with what you order and you should not be disappointed. Do try their Paratha/Roti-Shaak or the thaali. I am keeping the 5th star for my next visit when i try a fee other things.

Chandan K.

Yelp
The ambience is not something I like but the owner was very welcoming. Some of the food items were frozen and heated but then some were fresh like Samosas, I've never had such delicious samosas in DFW. Thalis are wonderful. The owner was very polite and made pooris and potato dish for our kids. He did not charge us anything for our kids. No other place does that. I go to this place every time I'm in Richardson area. I cannot go there and not order samosas.

S N.

Yelp
Over all experience: good Food: great. Home made food. Very typical Gujarati food. Ambiance: ok Might go again. But probably for take out.

Manpreet G.

Yelp
****REVIEW EDIT****FEMALES BEWARE***** I have NEVER been so uncomfortable in my entire life. I was literally disgusted and feel violated. Let me walk you through my experience: I walk in and immediately notice there are only men in the restaurant. A skinny grey-haired man is near the register and staring at me the entire time as I walk up to the register. He says nothing. So I go ahead and I order the "Chole Bhature." In retrospect I should have gotten the order to go, but I was on my lunch break and I didn't feel like eating indian food in my car, which is nearly impossible. I find a table and have a seat. Another man- the server has already been peaking his head out of the kitchen staring at me as well, then he brings my food, not without getting a glance into my shirt. I'm mortified. Then the older man that took my order comes and sits at the table across from me! And stares at me while I'm eating!!! Every time I glance up he is legit staring at me. Now let me get to the worst part- the restaurant employee, the older man, that decided to sit across from me starts talking in Hindi and making comments to another old man sitting next to him about my appearance! He obviously doesn't know I'm Tri-lingual and I understood everything! Nonetheless, I will never go there again! And I'll make sure no woman I know ever goes there! This filthy establishment should be shut down! In regards to the food -the Chole Bhature were not consistent, they crumbled and fell apart, they felt old and re-heated. I didn't even finish 25% of my food because I was so freaked out by the men staring at me, I thought they were contemplating a gang rape that I threw the food and left.

Abhi T.

Yelp
Pretty good! The food is a typical Gujarati, homely, Indian food. I would definitely recommend the Dal and Rice. I tried the Thalis and the quantity was well for one person.
