The Best Dumplings in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Momos, a type of steamed dumpling shaped like half-moons, are one of several highlights in Gorkha’s expansive menu, which spans Nepal, India, and Tibet. Co-owner Rashmi Bhattachan sold these Nepalese delicacies at the Mill City Farmers Market long before founding Gorkha — and more lately her newest outpost, Momo Dosa — so naturally, her tenure comes through in each momo’s meticulously pleated skin wrapped around juicy patties of turkey, veggie, or bison, all sourced from local farms. Served with a bright tomato chutney, they’re enough to make a meal." - Justine Jones

The owner Anil is very conscious of appreciating his customers. The food is very very delicious and well done. Good proportions & Prices are good. Easy convenient location with its own off street parking. My favorite dish is Samosa Chaat. & If you have never had one try a Lassi drink ( very tasty treat ) kinda a Indian style milk shake, but alot healthier lol...

Gorkha Palace was one of my wife’s and my favorite restaurants for over a decade. It’s changed and the food isn’t as good as it used to be. We ordered what we usually do, I got the chicken choyla (formerly spicy newari choyla), and it wasn’t nearly as good as it used to be - they removed the potatoes, and the raita now was like carrots and tomatoes in a bowl of milk, it used to be thick. The momos were still good, but the tomato chutney was not - it tasted bland and different. Many other things on the menu that have changed as well. I hope they consider some of this feedback, and the feedback like this on Reddit, and make some changes to bring back the great food it was known for.

Google
This was takeout: I generally love the food here. However, this time the food was fine mostly, but the Biryani that I ordered mild was extra spicy and the 2 orders of Papadum I order were both badly burned and horrible tasting. I'm very disappointed that the restaurant would send out clearly burned food.

Google
Cozy place. Limited parking. Great food. This stuff is way too spicy for me and I got it mild. You’ve been warned. I could do without the automatic 20% overcharge. Just add that extra fee into the price of all items. Simple. A $15 entree is now an $18 entree and nobody would really care. But when it’s laid out at the end, in total, you absolutely know it’s going to affect business/tips. And you’re encouraged to tip over and above the 20% surcharge. The food was really good. The service was fast and friendly. Besides the surcharge, I loved it.

We had a wonderful experience here- the food was delicious and the service was great. We appreciated the recommendations from our waiter! We will definitely be back.

Google
If you're Pakistani/Indian and crave authentic, delicious, fresh desi food, THIS is an amazing place. My husband and I love the butter chicken at level 2, and the gosht banjara, level 2. Absolutely satisfying!! And with garlic naan and raita? OMG amazing. Every friend we have taken here loved the food. It's hard for me to be genuinely impressed with desi restaurants since I've grown up with the best of the best, but this one actually earns the prize as a top contender for best Indian food in Minneapolis so far. It's our go to! We take our parents, friends, and co-workers and they all say it was good for the soul.

Google
Was very surprised with the Taste and Quality of food as we had looked up rating prior to placing the Order. Overall, much better Indian Food available in Twin Cities and this place is very poor on taste. For Details on what we got: 1. Kadai Paneer - 1/5 2. Bhel Puri - 4/5 3. Samosa Chat - 2/5 4. Gobi Manchurian - 1/5 Plus quite a delay in our pickup order even-though place was pretty much empty

Google
Wonderful visit. We were one of two tables on a Sunday afternoon. The service was good. We LOVED our food. It was great to see many vegan and vegetarian options clearly labeled. The green peas tofu dish was delicious. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I'm not sure why I haven't been here before but it's F'n amazing. We tried a couple apps and I had the lamb curry with the garlic Naan bread.

Yelp
It's a stark difference from the old Gorkha in every way. Service, atmosphere & food have all tanked since the ownership change. I wish I'd known before having my birthday dinner at an old favorite. The old owners can be found at Momodosa, which I will check out next.

Yelp
Great food and quick service! Staff are friendly and helpful! I love their granola chicken tikka masala and garlic naan!! Can't go wrong!

Yelp
The food, stellar. The service, friendly, but weird. Once we said we were ready for the check, the waiter disappeared for over 10 minutes. We finally had to go to the counter and pay. Which was confusing because the waiter brought checks to all the other tables. One more weird thing: there are benches against the window and they are comfy, but they are too high to touch the ground and there is nothing to rest your feet on. So they just dangle. The hot sauce for the dumplings, is, I can report, very hot! So yay for those who want the SPICE! The tikka masala was tasty with plenty of chicken and great flavor. Mild plus was no hint of spicy. Im very curious what Gorkha hot was. The garlic naan: fresh, warm, and tasty. The decor is tasteful with lots of mountain paintings. On the final night of our time in Minneapolis, this was great spot!

Yelp
I've walked past Gorkha Palace hundreds of times, but had never stopped in until a couple of weeks ago and I was really missing out! The inside is on the smaller side, but they were still able to accommodate my group of 7 walk-ins on a quieter evening which was great. The inside is pretty nice with a good, elevated family restaurant feel. The menu features a combo of South Asian staples from Nepal, India, and Tibet. The best way to order this kind of cuisine, in my opinion, is to do it family style so that's what we did! We ordered the combo Momo's to start, along with Lamb Biryani, chicken coconut curry, and Paalak Paneer. We also got a side of garlic naan to share as well. My favorite of the night was probably the coconut chicken curry followed closely by the bison momo's from the combo plate. I also really liked the biryani and naan, the paalak paneer was a bit unusual for me as I am used to a much more spinach forward dish. This dish appeared to have a more tomato cream base with spinach which was mixed in. It was also good, but much different than what I was expecting. The servers were all very friendly and quick, and the food came out surprisingly fast. Overall, a great choice for South Asian food in the Twin Cities!

Yelp
Didn't know I needed Chicken Thenkthuk in my life until coming here. Gorkha palace is fully responsible for taking my Tibetan food virginity and I think I'm in love Thenkthuk (Hand-pulled noodle soup - chicken, daikon, spinach, edamame, tomatoes, soy sauce) is a soup meant to keep nomads warm over a long Tibetan winter. It was warm, subtlety spicy, and deeply savory and flavorful - aka comfort in a bowl. It tasted familiar, yet unique and new - kind of like rediscovering a favorite song you used to listen to. Gorkha Palace is sort of a hidden gem IMO. The storefront is a bit easy to miss, but now it'll forever be on my mind. It's an Indian/Nepalese/Tibetan restaurant, so there's dishes (like thenkthuk) that you won't find at a typical Indian restaurant. Momo (Steamed dumplings - onion, cabbage, ginger, spices) is (are?) always so fun to eat, like little pockets of love tbh. The chicken coconut curry (Chicken, cucumber, basil, coconut curry sauce) was also delish, but not necessarily memorable. Garlic naan? Always a must. Yelp
This place has piqued my curiosity for a long time and I finally made it in for the first time. I'll definitely be back. I like traditional Indian fare very much, and the selections at Gorkha Palace seem like an exotic twist on that since there are Nepali and Tibetan recipes on the menu. For my entree, I got Lamb Vindaloo, which was different from other vindaloos I've had. It was all meat, no potatoes or anything else you might find supplementing meat in a vindaloo. The server cautioned me that it might be hotter than I expect, so I asked for the lowest spice level. That was not spicy at all, not even a little bit, so I wish I hadn't been talked down from a higher spice level. It could have used more flavor. Quality lamb meat, though. I also got "mo:mo", which are steamed dumplings. I'm a big fan of steamed dumplings and these were GREAT. They had a unique, tangy flavor that was awesome with or without the tomato-y dipping sauce. I might seriously get a double order of them as a main course next time. Except that I want to try more of their stuff. Someday, though. (Dumplings as an entree is normal for me, and should be normal for more people!) Prices are on the high side; many entrees are more than $20. Also they make it clear that there will be a 20% surcharge, and although that disclaimer suggests that you might end up tipping beyond that, my bill didn't have a spot to add a tip, so maybe that surcharge is actually an instead-of-tipping situation. Which I like, but the messaging is confusing. Free parking, a unique perk for this area, although when they're busy they'll run out of spaces. Those dumplings, you guys.

Yelp
Gorkha was my favorite restaurant for years.. It has gone horribly down hill with the new owners. Even my beloved veggie momo and no longer desirable, they changed the tomato chutney into spicy ketchup. I won't be going back, even though there are few vegan options.

Yelp
Today, after possibly a year and a half, I made my way back to Gorkha Palace. I was stunned when I walked in to find all of the cultural ambience removed. It is now this large grey box. Whomever owns it now has wiped it clean of any Indian, Nepali and Tibetan culture. That's very depressing. The service is, maybe Fair...at best. And the food is bland...with over-cooked chicken, thick 'n paste-like sauce and dry veggie samosas. I was looking forward to this experience. My solo dining experience where I could eat, drink and read a good book...all while being submerged in the cultural flair and smells that take me across seas. None of that exists in this grey box. Where is Gorkha Palace? She's been wiped clean. She's sterilized. She's screaming to be redeemed. I miss her.

Yelp
Delicious food!! everything I ordered was amazing the rice, the chicken, curry, the vegetable samosas and naan bread were amazing!!!

Yelp
Best Indian restaurant in Minneapolis. The food is Amazing every single time I've been here.

Annie G.

Yelp
The food was okay, the lamb biryani was all spice and no flavor. Ambience was hella depressing, barely any lighting and stark grey walls. Thing is, just those things alone would not have compelled this review, instead it was the service that I cannot accept. There was one waiter that was rude to me and my partner as soon as we walked in the door. He made it seem like we needed reservations even though we came right when they opened and there were barely any people inside. He continued to make weird comments throughout our dinner service, leaving me and my partner uncomfortable and increasingly angry. I regret not leaving immediately after that first rude incident. Never coming back here ever again.

Yelp
I visited and was greeted by a friendly server that gave some recommendations. I picked the Goan shrimp curry, which was flavorful and had plenty of shrimp. It was a big portion, which I thought justified the price. Garlic naan was garlicky and buttery. I also had the combo mo mo to-go. They help up well through a flight and reheating. The sauce on the side was delicious.

julia l.

Yelp
They are super flexible with spice level. Love it here. Very vegetarian friendly. I loved every dish I tired.

Thomas O.

Yelp
If what I read here is correct, the place is under new ownership, which might explain some of the older reviews compared to my own experiences here. I just moved back to Minneapolis after 22 years away and was delighted to find Gorkha in my new neighborhood. I have been to GP three times in the past month and can't wait to go back. Each time I went with a different friend and all agreed the food was really good. They have a whole page of Indian street food that I am slowly working my way through. The Golgappe are these little semolina shells that you fill with potato two chutneys and "spicy water" they are great flavor bombs that are making my mouth water as I write this. The Chole Bhature is yummy deep fried bread that gets even better when you top it with the flavorful chickpea masala that comes with it. I've also had the combo Momo dumplings which were good, but not as flavorful as the other street food apps I have gotten. For mains, I've had the Chicken Shahi Korma which is my favorite so far as well as the Chicken Makhani and Chicken Tikka Masala which were also good, but not as complex as the Shahi Korma. I got a can of diet coke that seemed past its sell by date, but that is a small quibble compared to the joy this place brings to me. The ambiance is nothing to write home about and there are a few outdoor tables that are great when the weather is nice. Even if they aren't set up for service the staff will let you sit out there if you ask. Service is friendly and a bit mom and pop. It gets five stars because the food is deeply satisfying and they have a big menu that I can't wait to explore further. Yum.

Yelp
The food delicious. The Chef/Owner made sure of that. Very nice. I heard they are new owners (of a month) and they are integrating their menu to a new computer system. Had plenty of time to discuss menu. Service completely ineffective. We were charged nearly 20% above the menu price and expected to pay another 20% so that my server can make a minimum wage. And then made a poor attempt (removing 20% service charge) and played ineffective. Isn't this against the law ? Be wary if price gouging.

Anon P.

Yelp
Be prepared to wait a long time for your takeout. Ordered mine 45 min ago, got to the restaurant and they said I'd have to wait 15 min more. Would not have ordered here it I knew it would take this long.

Todd B.

Yelp
It's fine. I like that the spinach dishes are not blended into baby food, and the naan is top notch. The tikka and the coconut chicken are heavy on dairy and so a little watered down, and the chicken was generic white meat. Samosa was good. Momos were ok, not the luscious dough wrapped meat you come to expect, more microwave like. The chicken dishes were heavy on basil to the point of tasting like licorice, and occasionally burnt garlic. The main issue is it's incredibly overpriced. $22 for an entree is ridiculous in any city, but especially this one.

Yelp
AMAZING ETHNIC ORGANIC VEGAN FOOD !!! Friendly service. Great neighborhood. Tasty! The vegan mango lassi= WOW! Aloo Bhindi= WOW!! Also very good is the Mixed Vegetable Curry and the Vegan Soup of the Day. Highly worth the visit and any repeat visits thereafter!!!

Yelp
Soooo yummy! This is better than our favorite spot in the SF Bay Area. Our best & favorite meal in Minnesota. We split the chicken tikka & the korma navrataram. The naan was so light & delicious with a touch of ghee or butter. Eating the to go rice pudding I ordered for breakfast. Yummmmm.

Tenzin Z.

Yelp
Delivery on time. Food is great kept warm and like sauce. It was a delight. Over all good service..
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
I highly recommend the Kashmiri naan, it has nuts and dried fruit so I love the contrast between the soft savory naan, the crunchiness of nuts and the sweetness of the fruit. The chicken tikka masala is also very good. Service was slow, even just to get water and to order. The veggie pakora was just okay but the sauces it came with were really good.
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
You know, I've often held Gorkha in high regard as my favorite indian food in Minneapolis. We recently ordered a few curries for delivery. The rice was wet, without flavor. Hard to describe. The texture was all wrong. The curry was bland and runny and the chicken seemed extra fatty. I was really disappointed. So disappointed that I cooked my own the following day and somehow that was much better? Gorkha's food has been so rich and flavorful, with thick wonderful textures. I must have gotten them on an off day. The plain naan was great though.

Yelp
Got here late on a Sunday from the airport. Ordered a lamb dish that was really good with medium heat. Lamb was cooked proper. Service was great and the atmosphere was enjoyable. I will be back

Yelp
This is my first experience of eating something different from Thai, Korean, Lao style food. Indian food is different and i enjoy the meal I had. I am not a big fan of vegetables so excuse me for not eating my veggies. I did, however try all the food that came out. The Naan (garlic & cilantro) was yummy. The dough was light and yummy because of the butter. The momo was super good, if you like spicy definitely try the hot sauce, it has a good kick to the flavor. My friend order the chicken coconut curry and it was really good. The spicy newari choyla was good, however i thought it was actually spicy but it wasn't. There is nothing against that and everyone spice tolerance is different. I am not sure what daal is made of but it had a thickness to it. Also, the potatoes salad was different, i could taste flavor but I'm not a big fan. Lastly, the bean, im not sure what it was but it taste like a salad with peanuts. I like the crunch; but im not a big fan. Drink: the mango lassi was oka, i am not a big fan of gingerly drinks. Maybe next time I will try something different. It all depends on what you order.

Yelp
Gorkha Palace is easily in my top 5 restaurants in the Twin Cities so far (I just moved here in July). I do have a few things to say about it though: Cons: -the service here is not the best. We've been here several times and it seems like there's only ever had 1 server and it takes forever to order and get our food. Last time we were there, the owner said she was training another server so who knows? -portions could be bigger for what we're paying. The food is absolutely delicious and I wish we had more of it, especially if we're paying a good amount. But then again, the food is the biggest pro. Pro: -the food , the food, the food! Our favorites are the Momos (chicken is delightful but all are good!), Goan Shrimp Curry, Goan Lamb Chili, Aaloo Bhindi. Literally such a party in my mouth every time we have them! Honestly, good food is hard to stay away from! Service could use work but the food gets me every time!
google avatar

Denise D.

Yelp
I've been to fancy places. I've been to dives. I've been to the Sri Lanka Curry House for price-your-own entree night. I live near Devon Avenue in Chicago and have tried them all. This is the best Indian and Indian-adjacent food I've ever had. Nini was a fantastic server-- great recommendations, perfect pacing, delightful personality. I will be thinking about the veggie briyani, aaloo bhindi, and tikka masala for months to come. Pro tip: Get the vegan mango lassi even if you're not vegan.
google avatar

Dan C.

Yelp
I am mixed about this review. I feel that ethnic diversity in the food in Minneapolis is not really that great, so when I find a place like Gorkha, I want to support it. Also, we always get Momos - which are hard to find here, and their momos are good, too. I am also a fan of their garlic naan. The people that work here are very nice, too. However, this is mixed up part - we have come here many times for take out and they have never not messed up our order. The wrong food, the wrong quantity, things missing, losing our order when we go to pick it up, a bit calamitous all around. This place would be stellar if they could get out of their own way.
google avatar

Yelp
We'd heard multiple times that Gorkha Palace is the best spot for Indian food in the area, but the prices stopped us from ordering for 3 years or so. Yes, the prices are $5+ per entree comparatively, but I can understand why. The location is expensive to keep a lease, I'm sure, and the flavors seem really special and deep. We ordered chicken biryani at medium heat, lamb vindaloo at Thai chili pepper heat, 2 garlic naan, broccoli pakora, and mango lassi. Four sauces were included, all very calming and 2 minty with a cucumber twist. So good. The total came to $75 and I went to the restaurant to pick up. Solid tip -- check that you have all the items you ordered before you leave! One of my items was forgotten but I don't live far away so it wasn't a problem. Chicken Biryani -- 5/5 loved this. The rice was nicely flavored and it came with a lot. This could be split by two people. Loved the cashews and raisins included, and there were generous pieces of meat. Would order again! Lamb Vindaloo -- 5/5 my husband got this and loved it. He loves spicy and ordered it in the Thai chili pepper heat. It's not often he finds something too spicy, he says this is one of the spicier things he's tried! The curry wasn't too thin or soupy and he's so excited to eat the leftovers later. Garlic naan -- 4/5 alright! I love garlic and I love naan. This naan has a slight sweet taste to it, which is unique and so nice. I kicked one star just because I'd have loved it to be more garlicky and you get one naan per order for $4.50/$5 apiece. Broccoli pakora -- 4/5 could just be me but I hadn't seen broccoli pakora before!! I'm happy to see another veggie option. I think these could have been crispier. I understand it's hard to keep things crispy when it's takeout though!! I'd definitely order it again, even with it being a lil less crispy. Mango lassi -- 5/5 not too sweet and not too strong of a flavor. Very liquidy! Not yogurty or like ice cream. Honestly I have only had lassi one other time and it was years ago, I have no idea how it's supposed to taste. But it was good! And I'd get it again. So, in general, we loved our order. Cons: expensive. Pros: local, unique flavors, actually spicy when you order spicy. We'll be back!!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. After taking a wrong turn on my way home from work, I drove right past it and couldn't wait any longer! So for our special New Year's Eve dinner I ordered some up online through their website! COVID INFO: Order takeout on their website, pick a time, they will email you the confirmation, then they will send you a second email confirming pickup time. When you get there just call to say you're there to pickup a take out order. They'll ask your name and check to see if it's done. When they confirm it's done, they'll tell you it's safe to walk in and grab from the pickup table. I ordered Lamb Sekuwa (it comes with lentil soup), a small momo combination platter, and chicken curry. They provided a ton of white rice on the side! The best item we ate has to be the momos! Perfect little pouches full of beautiful flavors dunked in the delicious sauce! The next best thing was the curry, perfect heat for me at a medium level. Overall a solid curry, not the best in town, but it went down quick and warmed my soul! The lamb was dry as lamb should be, not overly chewy, but not our favorite menu item combined with the side of lentil soup. It wasn't bringing the flavor as much as the others. Overall, I would love to order from here again and try more from the menu like the biriyani or other popular menu items. With some of the flavors they were bringing I think this place could be a 5! Downtown and a good sized parking lot to pull into! Not hard to get into off a one-way street.

Yelp
Service was good. Not overwhelming just right. Food was really terrible. I have been to this restaurant many times years ago and the quality has gone remarkably down. Got the curry and the chicken was vet cooked and watery curry with subpar taste. And charge a pretty hefty price for the amount. Disappointed to see how this place has gone downhill. There is a flat 18% gratuity add on and also you are expected to tip. Ambiance was meh very dark and dingy didn't look clean or hasn't been updated since 2016!
google avatar

Rathin K.

Yelp
Three out of four dishes we ordered were totally flavorless. As someone Indian, I don't even know how you do that. It was also very expensive for what we ordered. We ordered two orders of paneer tikka masala and one order of a mixed vegetable curry. The naan, momos, and the vegan dish (tofu and peas) were good. Maybe we just got unlucky and it was a mistake? We've had good food from here before.

Yelp
Make a reservation! I came here on a Friday night with a few friends and we opted to just sit at the bar to not wait but I think generally table is preferred! The service here is amazing! From the original group we started out as, we had some more join us and they were really accommodating and nice about it even though it was definitely confusing for them. We ordered a lot of garlic naan and rice to share then each choose entrees. I got the Chicken Coconut which has organic chicken, cucumber, basil, in tomato onion sauce with coconut milk $18. The portion is more than enough to share so on my next visit I'll be sharing! The restaurant space itself is small and they have some tables outside. It was pretty loud at dinner but a great energy and again the staff was amazing! Kudos to them!
google avatar

Feem C.

Yelp
Last year we ate at this restaurant, everything was good. 18% service charge was automatically charged to our bill. We understand that. Normally we gave 20% tips anyway. This time we ate here, we saw the bill and a tip option. We gave 20% of the tips. We didn't realize that our bill was already charged 18%. We called the restaurant that we didn't mean to give 38% for the tips. The server said the 18% service charge was for the kitchen staff not for the server and customers are expected to give a separate tips. We won't be back.

Yelp
This is now my favorite South Asian restaurant in the metro. A few weeks ago, we went to see our son play with his combo at Jazz Central. My wife and I had some time before the show, and decided to stop by for the first time. We both got Choyla (recommended here on Yelp), and it was AMAZING. She got chicken, I got lamb. The soy nut salad was an eye-opener, and the potato salad was a great antidote to the spicy meat, together with the little bit of raita in the middle of the cute Bento box. It was one of those experiences where you sit silently and just roll your eyes at each other in bliss. The lamb was a little tough, but tasty, and my wife's chicken was perfect. So, for Mother's Day, my son asked where we should take my wife. I suggested Gorkha because we'd had such a great experience, and it's mid-way between our two places. He hadn't eaten there before. This time, instead of what we usually do (which is order the same dish that we loved again), we decided to change things up. She got a curry, and I got a Briyani. Now, the first time I had Briyani it was at a Hyderabad Grill, and it was awful, so I was a little gun-shy, but these guys do such a good job, I thought I'd give it another shot. The waitress asked what heat level we wanted, and both my wife and son got theirs at level 5, which is their highest advertised heat level. When she asked me how I'd like my Briyani, I said "as hot as you make it". She said "well, we have a 'secret' super-hot level 6, is that what you want?". Yup. That's what I want. Level 6 includes a lot of minced Thai peppers. I'm a fan of heat, and have never been blown away by the interpretation by Indian/Nepali restaurants in town. Too many Minnesotans who think mayo is too spicy sending their dishes back, I guess. THAT was a very tasty Briyani. And it was nicely hot. Still not burn your face off hot, but plenty of heat without sacrificing flavor. It's a pricey spot. For the three of us, I spent about $110 before tax. But the food was totally worth it. And both my wife and I brought home leftovers, and it turned into three meals. So, ~ $30 apiece? Not awful, but not McDonalds. It was extremely busy that night. Place was pretty much packed. Yet, our service was awesome. It was really impressive seeing the servers and other wait staff just whizzing around the floor. So, definitely recommended when you're looking for South Asian food (especially if you're looking for spicy food). You'll pay a premium, but you get what you pay for. I will be back. Thanks, Gorkha!

Yelp
I'm doing it-- updating Gorkha to 5 stars. They have been a solid companion for me through COVID, with a simple online ordering system, coupons in my inbox, and a very safe pickup process (call when you're outside for clearance to enter and grab your bag off the counter). I still love the Navarattan Korma but all their curries are great. Some naan bread and a mango lassi and this is a 5-star Northeast meal. Thanks to the brave folks keeping the kitchen running at Gorkha through this terrible time for the restaurant industry!

Yelp
First time back to Gorkha since Covid. Friendly staff, a very nice atmosphere and good service. I had Tandoori lamb with broccoli. Lots of broccoli. The cubed lamb was overcooked, although generously portioned. My wife had a vegetarian curry dish and she liked it a lot. Otherwise, I think this place is generally unremarkable, especially when you consider the price. They add an automatic 18% surcharge, which our wait person said "goes to the house." Meaning, not to the server. Total bill for two with a dessert and 20% tip: $74.09. With so many other options in this category, I won't be going back -- unless my wife insists.

Yelp
Oh man! I used to love this place a lot! Lost 2 stars for me because the price over value makes me think twice about ordering take out from this business in the future. I may still stop by once in a while if my friends insist on hanging out here but that's about it. I was charged $40 for a small bowl of "noodle soup" and some bison momos. See photos attached. I ordered take out means to go/I pick up my own food and they tagged an extra 18% surcharge to my order!? They seemed to have already raised their prices on their menu. A small bowl of soup was $19, yes I call it soup because the chicken thenkthuk that they claimed was an entree, was not. Their claim of amazing homemade noodles were also mediocre since there were barely any noodles in that dish. It was ridiculous that they could not explain to me what the additional charges was for, especially since I was doing a takeout. Their only saving grace was the chicken dish was very tasty and their bison momos were very good. I just can't afford eating at this place much anymore.

Yelp
WOW! What took me so long to try Gorkha Palace??? After literal years of waking past, we finally decided to get our Indian food fix here. And my only regret is that my stomach can't fit more. We started with the savory raisin naan- amazing! For entrees we had the pea tofu and the chicken tikka masala - PERFECTION!! For a side we had garlic naan - superb! And we also tried the momos/dumplings combination platter- fantastic! The perfect food combined with amazing service makes it a no brainer, you have to try this place!

Yelp
The best Indian restaurant in the Twin Cities, with the friendliest staff in town. My highest recommendations!

Yelp
Best Indian food I've had in the twin cities. I used to come in a couple times a month but the inconsistency of the wait staff has made it less desirable.

Yelp
There are a lot of Indian restaurants in the minneapolis area. Most of them have similar taste and menu items that cater to the general taste of what Americans think should be on the menu in an India restaurant. That's great, gives people a consistent experience and exposure to variations of similar dishes. Gorkha palace has some of those items and also some unique tastes and flavors that I am a big fan of! For snacks they have roasted soy nuts called bhatmaas, momo's: yummy dumplings! For entrees they have goan shrimp which has a lovely curry flavor to it. Choyla gives you a little bit of lots of yummy things. They also have one of my favorite mango lassi's that has a nice hint of cardamom. Check out this NE gem!

Yelp
Take out from Gorkha Palace was tasty and done right. During COVID, it is order online or by phone and pick up curb side. Ready on time, and they allow you to select your spice level - 1 for no heat and 5 for spicy. The Chicken Biryani with vegetable, cashews and raisins was very tasty. The Lamb Sekuwa, was marinated in yoghurt and spices. The accompanying lentil soup was delicious. Choyla Lamb was spicy-delicious and served with an interesting and flavorful soy nut salad. Gorkha Palace is affordable, delicious food, when you need someone else to do the cooking. For me it was a rare treat. May become a regular soon.

Yelp
First time here. Excellent service. Food was so delicious. Will definitely be coming back to try more. Had the MoMos. Bison, chicken and veggie. Organic Chicken Tikka Masala & the Navarattan Korma. Nice Taj Mahal Indian beer and for dessert we had Gulab Jamun - Indian Syrup-Soaked Donut Holes. Yum. Will absolutely be back. So many delicious flavors.

Yelp
The only reason we picked this place(was visiting friends in MN) is to get some Momos and I was utterly dissatisfied. Service was nice but as for the food goes, I'd call it below average for my personal preference. We've ordered a sample of few items to check how the food tastes first. Bhatmaas(appetizer), veg momos, garlic roti(since garlic naan is common in most places) and mixed vegetable curry. Bhatmaas was the only item that had tasted decent, garlic roti was half cooked on a side, Momos tasted so bland. We didn't dare to order any other items and walked out half hungry.

Yelp
Food is pretty good but also expensive for the portions. I tried the veggie pakora, chicken coconut curry, and garlic naan. The curry is $18 for not a lot of curry but tasty, esp with the garlic naan. Pakora came with a tamarind chutney and a cilantro mint (im guessing here) that were both nice. The server asked what spice level for the curry and I said 3 (out of 5) thinking it'd be medium spicy but it turns out 3 means not spicy (like literally not spicy and I'm not even that good with spice) which means anything less is negative spicy?? Idk next time I'll try asking for a 10 and hope that I'll be able to detect a hint of spice maybe. fyi: they have a parking lot that can be a little difficult to spot but it's there so don't make the same mistake as I did and park on the street and then later decide to move your car.
