Waterfront tiki oasis with refined fare, craft cocktails, & views

"For a relaxed afternoon break with a view I like Gramps Getaway; it’s a newer spot with great food, the best beer on draft and an amazing view of the city." - Nicola Leigh Stewart
"We wish we could bottle the feeling of walking into Gramps Getaway on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, when the place is packed and the DJ is blaring a flawless mix of ‘80s hits. We’d call it “Essence Of Old-School Miami” and we’d sell it for $7,500 a piece. It’s a tragedy that this city doesn’t have more casual waterfront spots serving frozen drinks and excellent South Florida bar food. This is why Gramps Getaway can get so packed on the weekends. But circle the bar until you find a couple of open seats, or be smart and make a reservation. They accept them now. Gramps Getaway can get slammed on the weekends. The nicer the weather is, the more crowded it’ll be. But most people don’t know that you can make reservations here. So book one and walk right past the poor souls waiting at the host stand." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino
"Gramps Getaway does take reservations. Not a lot of people know that, but it's a useful hack to get a table here on the weekend, when crowds flock to the outdoor spot to eat, drink, and stare at boats. Those crowds will not be as dense in the summer for obvious sun-related reasons. But if there is one place worth sucking it up and dealing with the sweat, it’s Gramps Getaway. You’ll be glad you did in six months, when their tiki bar looks like the first four rows of the main stage at a music festival. Gramps Getaway can get slammed on the weekends. "Gramps Getaway is a place that’ll make you feel nostalgic about the old Miami, even if you weren’t around for it. Here, under the massive palapa that used to house Whiskey Joe’s, you’ll find a ‘70s rock playlist, sneakily potent frozen drinks, and creaky wooden floorboards spackled with decades of beach sand. But what really sets Gramps Getaway apart from every other waterfront foe in Miami is the outstanding food. Buffalo wings and burgers stand side by side with basil watermelon salad and skirt steak. Come here to enjoy a gorgeous view of the Brickell skyline, an impressive fried chicken sandwich, and get a good whiff of fresh saltwater without having to pay ridiculous prices or deal with a pompous crowd. "Gramps Getaway, like its Wynwood counterpart, is also great for swaying hips and busting moves. When there’s not a live band on stage or DJ spinning yacht rock, the breezy palapa plays the kind of classics you want to hear while sipping a frozen drink and staring at the ocean: Queen, Tom Petty, and The Rolling Stones. When the sun starts to set, the vinyls come out and rotating DJs spin. We even heard Sade once. This is your chance to slow dance on the creaky wooden floorboards like it’s 1985.
