Denver’s Essential Breweries Right Now, Spring 2023

"Opening in 1994, this Ballpark pioneer (which now boasts three satellite taprooms, including the Barrel Bar in RiNo) helped put Colorado on the national craft-brewing map with such now-iconic beers as Denver Pale Ale, Colette Farmhouse Ale, and above all Yeti Imperial Stout. But there’s always plenty more in the pipeline — from Orabelle, a tripel brewed with barley, wheat, oats, and rye, to the Philly Sour with Sicilian Lemons." - Eater Staff

14 Essential Colorado Breweries to Visit in 2022 - AFAR

"Open since 1994, it has had a long time to work (and rework) its recipes, so it now wins GABF medals at a nearly annual clip. These beers are so beloved that today there are four locations in the Denver area. One standout pour is the Yeti Imperial Stout, with a big roasted, caramel, and toffee flavor profile that feels tailor-made for sipping around the campfire. Throughout the year, different iterations of the Yeti come out, so keep an eye out for pumpkin spice, horchata, and peppermint bark infusion." - Bailey Berg

Denver’s Best Tourist-Friendly Restaurants - Eater Denver

"Walk down any street in Denver, and there’s a good chance you will run into one of the city’s hundred-plus craft breweries, brewpubs, and taprooms. There’s an even better chance you’ll have a good time inside. That’s certainly the case at Great Divide Brewing Co., one of the first craft breweries to catch fire back in the mid-’90s and still a perennial favorite of locals and out-of-towners alike. Of course, there’s plenty more great craft breweries where Great Divide came from." - Eater Staff

We had such a great experience at GDBC! It’s a small, cozy spot with a lot of charm and character. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home—even with a baby in tow. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, which was so appreciated. The beer was fantastic—great variety, well-crafted, and full of flavor. You can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do. It’s the kind of place that feels like a hidden gem, perfect for relaxing and enjoying a great drink in a laid-back atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
Sad to hear that they are closing. Great brewery. Staff is awesome. Wish them all luck.

Google
Delicious beers. A must stops for any beer aficionados. The Yeti is their famous line of stout beers which is smooth, boozy and will leave you with a bit of internal alpine glow. They nail every style they go after so anything on the tap is usually excellent. I’ve really enjoyed their Strawberry Rhubarb Sour on this trip

Always love coming to Great Divide. Had not checked out this location but when I was in the other day the service was amazing! Will definitely be coming back.

Google
Favorite stop on our informal brewery tour. Chill vibes. Interesting beer list with something for everyone, but not pretentiously overdone. Tried a flight and went with fruity sours (and a saisson). Would drink them all again, but the strawberry rhubarb and lemon were the runaway winners. Really busy when we arrived, then it cleared out. We easily found seats outside to enjoy the spring afternoon. No food, but a great food truck was parked outside. Best yeti merch!

Google
When in Denver, get craft beer and this spot brews some of the best. Stopping in on a Sunday afternoon in March, my wife and I each got a 16 ounce pour and enjoyed it on their outdoor patio as we read books. My wife loved her IPA and the strawberry rhubarb sour ale was refreshing. It's not overly sour, but I enjoyed it!

Google
Fantastic experience here! Came through town on a visit from Columbus, Ohio and decided to make a stop here. Both bartenders were super helpful and great to talk to, and whoever picked the music (rumor has it, it was Kevin) has exceptional taste. The beer was incredible, and we bought plenty from the to-go cooler for later.

Google
Cool place, great beer BUT lacks in seating area and they only have 1 person serving. Which is usually not an issue but if you walk in at a busy time good luck standing and waiting for your order. They do have outdoor seating but everything is 1st come 1st serve. The staff is friendly and they have food trucks for food options. Now the beer is outstanding so if y'all don't mind a little wait for some delicious beer don't be discouraged!! Definitely recommend!!

Yelp
We booked an afternoon tour following another brewery walking tour that had started here. The tour wasn't anywhere close to the advertised 45 minutes; however, for $10, including a glass and free pint, it's hard to go wrong. Our guide, I can't remember his name, was personable and knowledgeable. I'd definitely recommend if you like beer and are interested in learning more about how beer is made and the inner workings of a brewery.

Yelp
I go to Denver a few times a year for work and when the weather is nice I try to get out and experience the city. Great Divide isn't that far from where I work so I stopped in. The beertender was nice, but not super friendly. Like, he answered questions but wasn't forthcoming about recommendations or anything. It was also a pretty warm day and it was pretty warm inside. I guess that makes for a perfect reason to keep ordering beer though. They had a lot of IPAs and hazies on tap. They also had Collette, which is their Saison. I was happy to try that on tap directly from the source because it truly is a perfect Saison. A chill spot for great beer.

Yelp
My first stop in Denver as part of my brewery tour (for myself, with myself). From the outside it didn't look like much to me. Upon entering we were greeted by the friendly man behind the bar. He told us we can scan the QR code to see the beer selection. We settled on a flight to try the few beers that caught our eye. 4 beers in a flight and we had to try the Yeti stout. Beers were overall pretty good with a nice variety to choose from. It wasn't a bad place to start out and I liked the warm vibes inside.

Yelp
This was a nice brewery. Good vibe and good beer. I would go back, and will for sure be looking for their brews at my local craft beer shop.

Yelp
Went here by chance while in Denver for a conference. We did their 4PM tour ($10) which lasted around 20 min. The guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. As part of the tour, you get a mug and a drink which is not a bad deal. The expresso yeti was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Yelp
While in Denver to see a show we decided our day activites should be beer tasting through Lodo and Lohi! Great Divide has a great tasting area. You can do as little or as much flites as you want. I went in for the dark beers and the reds but tried the lagers.. handsdown the Pottsville Lager is a must have! They also specialize in selzers. While I did not try, I think they should be a must have on your tasting list. Service here is so great. Everyone is happy to recommend and discuss the beers. Take a beer trip when in Denver to Great Divide- drink local!

Yelp
I've tried Great Divide before, but I never got into the taproom until this past week. I'm so glad I finally stopped by! They had a great selection of beer varieties and seltzers. I ordered the Japanese Rice Lager and really enjoyed it. I would definitely get it again, and would love to see it in stores near me! The bartender was friendly and welcomed us in. The taproom isn't huge, especially the bar when you first walk in. There's more seating in the back, but I didn't get to check out that area. The inside is very casual and inviting, your typical brewery/taproom feel. I would love to come back soon and check out more of the actual brewery area! Definitely check out Great Divide if you're in the area and looking for some drinks/good beer!

Yelp
Pros: Located in a hip part of town Lots of brews on tap You can order a flight of as many as you want to try - we tried 6 Favorites were Wild Raz (notes of raspberry) and Brunch and Bubbles (like a mimosa) Local musician was great Loved seeing where some of the beer is brewed Cons: Indoor and outdoor seating is a bit limited Decor could be updated some No food offered Staffing a bit thin Pro tip: Roll the dice and let the bartender know what you generally like and let them choose some options!

Yelp
My most recent trip to Denver brought my friends and I to Great Divide. The fellas and I were on a brewery tour and had to check this place out. It's one of the pioneers of the Denver brewing scene. This location was convenient to where we were staying. Parking was easy. The inside was small, but at the same time, it seemed like alot of people were packed in there. We snagged a table and ordered at the bar. Two of my favorite flavor profiles popped out at me right away. I ordered a small pour of the Peanut Butter Yeti and also the Strawberry Rhubarb Sour. Two different types of beer, but they were both delicious. I would totally order these again. Out of the breweries we tried in Denver, this place is high up on my list as one of my favorites. I will be back!

Yelp
As someone who's big into craft beer and who's had layovers at Denver often, I was SO excited to visit a Great Divide location in person! Got here about 40 minutes before closing, so mentally knew I was only getting one beer. However, I've never felt more unwelcome by a bartender than the guy closing tonight. Before greeting us hello, he quickly stated how they were closing soon. When my friend asked if she could get a flight, the bartender sighed and said "I guess". Because of that, I didn't even wanna get a flight cause of the disgust on his face for having to pour one flight, let alone two. The whole experience was honestly ruined cause of how annoyed the bartender was; probably would have liked my raspberry wheat more if I felt like I could actually enjoy my beer.

Yelp
Great Divide was on the list of breweries/beers to try while visiting Denver. Stopped in and ordered a flight of IPAs. They were all pretty good! It's located in the downtown area and there is street parking available. Upon walking in, thought there was a larger space in the back but it was pretty small. Seems that they have an upstairs/rooftop area but it wasn't open. Would have been nice to sit up there and enjoy the beers. The bar area wasn't the biggest, but that wasn't w deal breaker since the beer was pretty good. Would love to try them again and sit upstairs with a little more space, as well as a brewery tour. Give them a try if you're in the area!

Yelp
Stopped in on day 2 of our beercation in Denver. We are fans of their Yeti beers and ordered a flight of Expresso Yeti-Stout Horchata Yeti-Stout Pumpkin Spice Yeti-Stout Barrel aged Yeti-Stout Strawberry Rhubarb -Sour Passion Fruit Guava Gose -Sour Wild Raspberry Fruit Ale Hoss-Marzen Full pour of Experimental Lager with thiolized yeast Velvet Yeti-Stout on nitro Most of the beers were great, I didn't care for the pumpkin stout much and the horchata stout was like a thick, super sweet syrup. I had to remove a couple stars because most of my 3oz. glasses were only filled halfway and then my husband bought a souvenir that he was supposed to get a discount for, instead they overcharged him for it, other than that the beer is good.

Yelp
This was on my list to visit but knew I couldn't go without my wife and daughter. My daughter loves anything about big foots and I've recently have a love for it as well. This place was so damn cool and probably our favorite brewery visit. We liked Blue Moon because it's blue moon, but this place was different. We arrived, chose our beers, I got a flight and enjoyed them. It was nice because this place was in walking distance from the hotel. They had all sorts of merch and we got shirts, glassware, and much more. Loved the atmosphere. Smaller place. Place was solid packed with lots of people stopping for take out. They had food options as well but we just wanted to sample the beer. Ever since I've got home from Denver, we've been so fortunate to locate beer from great divide here locally which is so cool. Great place, who knew that I had the same walk as a yeti.
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
I've had some of this beer from my old craft beer store in California. So I was looking forward to trying more of their beers. Great Divide didn't disappoint. I got a beer flight and each beer was solid. Great location and good atmosphere inside.
google avatar

Derek N.

Yelp
Great beer, great space! Enjoy it like I did! Worth the 15 min walk from the downtown area!
google avatar

Neema B.

Yelp
Hubby wanted to stop here because of the great reviews and local recommendations. Parking was a breeze but I was surprised to see how small it is inside. We ended up sitting at the bar which was fine. We placed our order pretty quickly and I sampled the wild raspberry ale and car camper and ended up ordering the Mango + ginger seltzer. I'm not a huge seltzer fan but they didn't really have anything else that appealed to my palate. The seltzer was good but I hoped for a more extensive list of blonde or pale options. I'm sure true beer drinkers will have their fill here but sadly it wasn't for me.
google avatar

Savone J.

Yelp
The bar is clean and has a basic aesthetic. The employees were lowkey rude. We walked in an hour before close and we're immediately told it's last call. When I asked if I could have a flight I was told "I guess" my friend also asked how there day was and they said "we are about to be out of here"'so they didn't seem to even enjoy it here. We wanted to play a game but we're scared we'd be scolded so we chose not to, but they do have monopoly, candy land, Yahtzee, uno, and more. Couldn't tell you everything I got in my flight because it was rushed when giving the breakdown. The place says it closed at 8pm but at 7:50 we were told to finish our drinks because they close in 4 minutes. They cut the music and stacked all the chairs. I'm sure this place has potential but also the area is a bit sketchy. So do with that as you please. There is a great divide between customer service and hospitality.

Yelp
Great place to have nice beer and relax after work. Was there with a few colleagues after work to wind down. Great selection of stout and ales available.
google avatar

Jordan H.

Yelp
Very cool spot to grab some good beer. It's definitely off the beaten path but worth a visit. The beer is very good, staff is friendly and knowledgeable and definitely a great spot to relax for a bit. If you're in the area, I recommend stepping in for a beer...or two...or three!
google avatar

Keanna M.

Yelp
I had a 4oz taster of the Wild Raspberry Ale and another of the Strawberry Rhubarb. My husband had the 16oz Pale Ale w/Cryo Pop. We liked that the bartender explained the beers and flavor profiles. The beer was solid. Meaning we would visit again if we were in the area, however wouldn't go out of our way to visit. The atmosphere was cool. They had a lot of space indoor and outdoor.
google avatar

Jay R.

Yelp
Have been into this loction numerous times and had a great experience with my server "Livy" I think, or Olivia Albright. She was very friendly and positive, knowledgeable about the menu and even told us about some knew things going into town for entertainment. The food was quick and fresh, they seemed like they were getting busy before happy hour so we left but we will back back for the atmosphere and vibe! Definitely request Olivia!

Yelp
We tried to meet friends at the new Lone Tree location at 6 pm on a Tuesday Evening. We walked in and were seated. We were excited about trying their new location. We have been to the Castle Rock location and enjoyed the food and drinks. The Lone Tree Location had the music turned up so loud that there was no way to talk to anyone without shouting or getting close to their ears. Not at all what we were looking for. We wanted to have dinner with friends. This felt like we were in a Club with a dance floor, not a restaurant with a bar. We left without ordering.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Great selection and superior lager. Rustic downtown location. A REAL brewery! The bartender working that day was super friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Lynn H.

Yelp
Stickers are free... Gotta say that first and foremost. :) The bartenders at this spot and so nice and even talked about the other locations they work at. I forget (it was that kind of night) the exact combo that the guy recommended, but it was one of their seltzer waters mixed with I think one of their sours. He told us he's serving out of their other spot the next day and he would charge us by the pitcher of that mix if we wanted to come in to see him the next day because we loved that combo so much. You could tell he just really loves his job. It's a cool little spot with a nice mix of locals and out-of-towners like us. People are chill and drinks are good. Happy to have gone and would gladly go again if I am around.
google avatar

J. R.

Yelp
We definitely got the feeling that locals ruled the establishment. Any questions we had for the beer pourers seemed as if we were a bother. Twice the beer poured, I took my empty glass without asking if I wanted another one. Other than the Yeti, which was excellent, the others were just average.
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
I love going to breweries when I'm visiting a new town or city and made no exception to this theme while I was in Denver. Great Divide was the first brewery I stopped in while I was preparing to go to the Dodgers vs. Rockies game later that evening. I wasn't impressed with the beer selection nor was I impressed with their selection of merchandise (I try to buy a shirt from each brewery I visit). My girl did, however, enjoy that they had seltzers on tap. I believe she liked the mango-ginger seltzer the best. Most of the beers they offered were IPAs, sours/saisons, and some pumpkin spice beers. Not exactly what I was looking for. Their lager was okay.
google avatar

Jacqui C.

Yelp
Cool brewery in the heart of Denver. I wasn't expecting it to be very small with limited seating. We were beer hopping today and this was our first stop. There are some table tops with a full bar inside but it can get crowded easily. It was a nice afternoon so we sat outside, hardly any tables taken out there. The beer selection was decent, however they do not serve food. So if you're lucky you may catch a food truck, depending on what day or time you're there. We also got some cans to go to bring back home with us. Pretty cool brewery!
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
Wife and I came in here before the GnR concert and were BLOWN AWAY by their delicious offerings! We thoroughly enjoyed the Bourbon Barrel Yeti, Espresso Yeti, and wifey raved on her Hoss Marzen, and the Mango Ginger seltzer. Check it out.
google avatar

Lara T.

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries that we went to in Denver. Located right downtown it was within walking distance to where we were staying. They have an indoor tasting room and am outdoor patio area. They don't serve food but they frequently have food trucks. Nothing goes better with beer than something from a food truck. We had the Great divide hazy IPA and the Titan IPA. Both were great and matched the style perfectly. Friendly staff and great swag.
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
Be expected to show ID and wear a mask until you're seated here. It's also very small compared to a lot of other breweries I've been to. I was seated in front of a wall which wasn't great. Hard to stay longer when you're seated somewhere like that. Nevertheless, I was still keen to try some of the many beers offered here. There should easily be something for every beer drinker here. They also have new beers added every few weeks so you could drink something different every time you come here. Service was prompt to begin with which was awesome but I had to wait ages after having my second drink before I could grab someone's attention. I may have had a third of it weren't for that. As for food, there was a food truck out front when I was here. Social distancing is enforced well here which is always good to see. That includes masking up and tables spaced well enough away.

Yelp
My rational brain said it's a bad idea to go to a brewery on my first night in denver since the altitude change from nyc can really mess me up, but my love of beer and being giggly on this thin air told me an excellent idea. Google maps took me there through the most roundabout walking route through construction sites from union station where I seriously wondered if I was heading OUT of the city, but I arrived at my destination on a very quiet and windy Wednesday evening at 7p even though the darkness outside made it feel like 10p. Great service. Sat at the bar. My preference is for dark and robust, VERY grateful they have 3oz pours because otherwise I really wouldn't have made it past one beer especially since the stouts are all 9.5% abv and can really mess you up if you're not adjusted to the elevation and sleep deprived. Tried the peanut butter yeti, velvet yeti nitro, gingerbread yeti, espresso yeti, and hazy ipa. Took over the bottom banner of their digital display board that has live-update of when people rate their beers on Untappd. A most excellent outing.
google avatar

Sierra K.

Yelp
Great beer and the bartender was very helpful. The Pom pride was flavorful and just the right mix for a sour beer.
google avatar

Alan N.

Yelp
Small space but great example of the beer offering. Fun place and definitely recommend checking it out if you ever get a chance. This place comes highly recommended by locals and I can see why. Will definitely come back to try their other beers!
google avatar

Hillary K.

Yelp
The place was packed but the service was great. Great place to stop for a drink. Definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Super friendly service. They were able to crack jokes and keep up with my BF. Great beer. Nice indoor and outdoor atmosphere.
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Came here after the baseball game and the only downside was that they closed at 10 pm, which didn't give us a lot of time to really take our time sampling beers. The tap room isn't too large and is mostly counter space. There are a few tables outside as well. I was excited by the Yeti and all the variations they had to offer as well as the sour options they had on the menu. We ordered a flight with a Velvet Yeti Nitro, 25th Anni Big Yeti, Coffee Porter, and finished with our new crush gose (Gose Face Killah with Guava-great name!). The gose was one of my faves and had we had more time to chill and drink, I probably would've ordered it as my next drink. The other three darker beers were all good, though I remember liking one less than the others (can't remember which, specifically). The service was decent, though the bartenders got a little frustrated towards closing time that people weren't closing out their tab and that people were still coming in trying to order drinks. I guess they wanted to go home. Despite that, I'm still a fan of their beers and glad I got to spend some time in their tap room!
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Another really good brewery. The four I tried were very good. Strictly a brewery. No food. Still worth a visit for the excellent selection of beer and hard seltzers.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Found about Great Divide from the GABF, they had a long line and it was local so we dropped by here the day after the festival to check it out. I got the imperial sour with raspberry barrel aged and it was the best thing I've tried that weekend! It was delicious. All their beers were delicious. Small tasting room and limited seating inside. I gotta come back here when I'm in Denver!
google avatar

Allen C.

Yelp
We had our Denver Bicycle Lobby Happy Hour here to celebrate them being a bike friendly business. Staff was so kind and amazing to our group. Not to mention they are a bike friendly business. Great spot! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
Our of towners looking for some good beers and customer service. Not this place... we visit breweries in every state we visit and this one was not it. The server bartender was not friendly at all. Made it tough to even ask for a sample. When did people stop smiling at one another? The Vanilla milkshake ipa was nice full bodied and hoppy with a hint of vanilla. My wife loves tapped Seltzers and they have a huge offering, not knowing they are ALL cans she didn't even ask. Canned beers at a brewery is not brewery experience.
google avatar

Jesse P.

Yelp
This was the first stop in our mini self directed brewery tour. Nice spot, but not a whole lot of outdoor space to be had, and what they did have was not protected from the elements. Inside had a nice clean feel to it with a few tables and a bar with, roughly 10 chairs. I tried a few beers and all of them hit the spot for what I was looking for at the time. They have a good variety for different palates. Overall, I thought the beers were 4/5 but the space was 3/5. With that being said I would still come again.
google avatar

Kat B.

Yelp
Really tasty beer and welcoming environment! I tried the gingerbread yeti stout and fell in love. It tasted just like a gingerbread cookie without tasting like artificial flavors.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Clean and neat taproom from a brewery known as a pioneer in the industry. Untappd digital tap list flows through their offerings and displays checkins live as well. They are known for the Yeti, a stout. They tend to offer this in rotating, seasonal varietals. I've noticed that they are starting to get in on that hard seltzer game, one of which was on tap during our visit. Not too much to write home about as their beer is solid but nothing extraordinary. The Pumpkin Spice Yeti, I will admit, was rather enjoyable. More cinnamon than anything else, thankfully, as pumpkin beers are not my jam. Their sours were obviously kettled and thin and their seasonal Peach Milkshake IPA was cloying which is odd, ODD for an IPA. Inviting environment regardless. Potentially worthy of a visit and likely feasible parking-wise as it is on the edge of LoDo so away enough from the hustle and bustle for one to pop in with some ease.

Yelp
First brewery stop in Denver started on the right foot. Great Divide has plenty of space, is located in an easy to find spot, has incredibly friendly employees, has a few board games, and hosts a free tour every hour. These wasn't one beer I drank that I didn't like. The strawberry rhubarb is fantastic, and the Wood Werks is a dangerous, fruity, barrel aged Belgian-style sour. It's easy drinking. Great spot to hang out and try new beers.
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
Been to Great Divide a few times and have never really tried anything since they didn't tend to have sours. It was my lucky day because they had 2 to choose from, 1 they always have (strawberry rhubarb) and 1 pilot (cherry pie). I stuck with the strawberry rhubarb. It was lightly tart but still refreshing. Next time I'll try their cherry pie in hopes of getting a little more tart of a sour! They also had a pilot grapefruit seltzer. Love that breweries are starting to make their own hard seltzers! They tend to be significantly better than the claws or truly's of the world.

Yelp
Visited this taproom last Saturday. They were busy but not so busy that I couldn't grab an outdoor table as soon as I had a beer in hand. I love this location. It's a perfect size - cozy but with enough tables for multiple groups. And of course the beer is always great!

Yelp
Here's the thing, I am a Food and Beverage manager and give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I love breweries. Every time I travel, I look up local places to visit. This was one of the most disappointing experiences I've ever experience. We looked at the website and it stated it closed at 8pm. We walked in around 7:20pm. The bartended (I didn't catch his name - he actually didn't say it and I didn't think to ask but he had a mullet) looked at us and said "we close in 30 minutes". No hello, nothing. We stated that we understood. My friend ordered a flight and he said I guess. I wanted to order a flight and was hesitant, but still decided to do it and assured him I'd be finished by close. I asked how he was and he flat out said "good because we close soon". As a Food and Beverage manager that's very concerning. He clearly doesn't care about the guests and I hate that. As we sat down he loudly started stacking chairs, taking the empty chairs from our table. I am a firm believer in giving places a second chance, however, after this experience I refuse to return. This bartender was the rudest man I've ever encountered in the service industry. Two Stars because the beer was good - I think. I had to chug when they yelled at 7:50pm that they were closing in 4 minutes...the website says they're open until 8pm...

Yelp
My husband was raving about how much he loves Great Divide and was excited to come to the brewery. We ordered a flight and were very impressed. We had the Yeti, Strawberry Rhubarb, Pumpkin Spice Yeti, and the Velvet Yeti Nitro. They were all amazing, but I think the Strawberry Rhubarb was my favorite. The environment was so fun and relaxing. The staff was very friendly and helpful when offering suggestions for the flight. I'm very excited to come back on my next trip to Denver.

Yelp
Been waiting a few years to visit Great divide and picked the perfect day, the beer was great but Richard made our visit even better! Great customer service, great stories and over an amazing experience! Derrick the other bartender was just as great! Thank you for the great experience!
