This unassuming corner bar is conveniently located just below the Western Blue Line stop in the Logan Square/Bucktown Area. It's especially convenient for me as I take the train into the city from Oak Park. From the outside it doesn't look like much and to be totally honest once inside it's not all that impressive. It's a fabulous Dive Bar following the great traditions of Dive Bars everywhere. Once you pull up a chair at the bar, which happens to be of the antique, dark wood variety, you're transported to a place where you're completely welcome to come as you are.
The Bartenders are friendly and attentive, making sure to take your drink order right away. The bar has a fairly extensive menu of local and regional craft beers as well as the old standby, PBR. I'm not much of a beer fan, but when with others who ask about specific beers available the bartender is able to intelligently discuss the merits of one brew over another, depending on what you tell them you're into. Not only that, but they'll give you a bit to try.
As more of a cocktail drinker I have to say the alcohol to value ratio is in line. The bartenders are creative and will pretty much improvise any drink on the spot for you, if you'd like. I also enjoy ciders and there are several bottled or canned varieties to choose from. (Just a suggestion...I'd love to see a cider on tap, perhaps Strongbow?) Prices are seriously cheap and a gal (high tolerance, baby!) like me can get lit for under 30 bucks, which is a got damned bargain.
I like the music that they play as it makes me nostalgic for my College Days of zero responsibility and frequent benders. Sure, there are no dollar pitcher nights here, but aren't those kind of 20 years ago? The volume is usually kept at a moderate level, so that folks are free to conversate (I know this is not a real word, but I like how it sounds) with each other.
The Bar is dimly lit which I appreciate a lot. You see, it prevents me from having to swat away potential suitors who are completely mesmerized by my super hot good looks and magnetic personality. Or is that the other way around? Hmmm, it's my review and I'll call it how it is. The ladies room is clean and well lit, but don't feel like you need to touch up your makeup at all, this is not a Meat Market...it's a BAR and a damn good one at that.
It's a great place to meet up with friends while having a few drinks and planning your next move(s). It's a great place to drink solo, while working on your next fictional masterpiece, swiping for the ONE or looking for some interesting conversation.
