"Green Leaf Thai Cuisine, led by Rattiya Udompaichitkul, is taking over the former location of Opart Thai House. The menu will include new Thai dishes as well as twists on Opart favorites. The restaurant will continue the legacy of Thai food in Lincoln Square and will remain BYOB." - Ashok Selvam

Nice experience at Green Leaf. I ordered the papaya salad and requested it non-spicy since I’m not a fan of spicy food. Though it came with a slight kick, I still really enjoyed it. The waitress was attentive and brought me water right away, which I always appreciate. The food arrived quickly. Overall, a great spot with delicious food and excellent service!

Delicious Papaya salad set! Speaking as a Thai, this is probbaly one of the most authentic Papaya salad set I have in Chicago. Highly recommend!

ordered egg rolls, tom yum soup with tofu, shrimp fried rice, beef fried rice with extra egg fry. Egg rolls (3 piece) =5/5 Tom tum soup = 4.5/5 little sourly Beef fried rice = 4/5 Shrimp fried rice = 4.4/5 Atmosphere is good and service was also good.

Tried a new place for us. We love Thai food and we're in the neighborhood. The chicken satay was average. The peanut sauce was good but not great. We ordered Panang Curry and Pad Prik King spicy. It was nice they asked how hot and we went to the hotest. The curry was the better of the two. It was spicy but for us not too much. The value and portions were good. Overall decent but have had better.

This is unfortunately the second time I’ve Ordered beef as a protein and it’s grey, tough, no flavor.

Well this used to be another restaurant called Thai Oscar that was now closed and went out of business which became Green Leaf Thai. My friend just picked me up from my donating blood and I offered him dinner out since I didn't want to pay for Uber after donating blood and didn't bring my cars. Anyways the Thai food was a meh ok if not subpar. Such a disappointment. The Thai ice tea was bland if not that sweet. My friend ordered a hibiscus beverage that he said was ok. The steam shrimp shumai did not have a wow taste to it but it wasn't bad. The chicken Tom kha soup needs some improvement as the chicken they cooked was dry next to the presentation of using a dangerous heating contraption to keep the soup hot. I say this because it has a burner and if someone is clumsy or if you have children dining in here and accidentally touch or knock it off it can case a hazardous fire or lawsuit. The main dishes which we both ordered was not that impressive. The pad prik felt like eating taco bell ground beef with no zest to it. I've tasted better pad prik at other Thai restaurants in Chicago, suburbs and in Thailand. My friends seafood lard nar was watery than creamy and had a really funky seafood smell. He even had to order Thai rice to fill his dish to satisfy. We ordered a banana egg roll with honey for dessert and also was ok but no big deal or excitement. All in all they need to improve as both of us was not impressed and neither was I compared to Thai Oscar.

I’ve been coming here since they opened, actually, since it was Opart Thai. I have been steadily disappointed, unfortunately, but decided to give it another try. I ordered a green curry (medium) and papaya salad to go. Curry was way too salty and more like mild spicy. The papaya salad, however, is a complete copout, do not get it. Half of it is a pile of lettuce, it was not spicy does not appear to have any lime, and the papaya did not taste fresh. Unfortunately, I’m disappointed and I think I won’t be coming back.

Yelp
This is the replacement of sorts for Opart Thai up here, though I think they just changed their name because the neighborhood rumor was that they had been having some ongoing issues. It is definitely *related* to Opart because their menu is the same and I asked when I was at the West Town location and was told it was their sister restaurant. Food is good, which is why it's kind of a bummer that I wasn't totally happy with my experience here. They arrived ten minutes later than the time they'd said they'd be here, which was already 70 minutes after I placed my order. The place is a mile away so it's not like they were driving across city; pretty disappointing. We ordered from here for Father's Day at the father's request, which was the second time ordering from this restaurant. They were earlier than their 60 minute suggested time so that was to the good. However, apparently when you add rice they replace instead of add--I added a large rice on the side because the dishes we were ordering are pretty hot and the rice helps to cut down on the heat. But imagine my surprise when JUST the rice I added was included, and not the two small rice that has in the past come with the order automatically, when I've not ordered additional rice. So instead of two small boxes of rice and the large one I ordered in addition, there was just one large rice for two entrees. Oh, and they didn't fill it to the top, as you'll see in the photo. If you're going to charge $2.50 for rice--and cut out the rice that comes as a standard accompaniment!--you need to fill the box to the top.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our group meal at Green Leaf Thai! The server had fantastic recommendations for all parts of the menu! For appetizers, absolutely get the tigers cry. It's some of the most well marinated, tender pieces of beef! The Tom Yum soup with shrimp is enough to share with five people. For entrées, the peanut sauce was the surprise favorite. The crispy lard nar noodles were super crispy with a savory gravy. Wish the panang beef curry had more beef, but amazing curry sauce. Mango with sticky rice was well done staple. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
When we went to Lincoln Park, Joseph suggested dining on Thai food. I agreed. I always loved dining on Thai food as tends to be my food of choice. I ordered the vegetarian Pad Kee Mao with not so much spice. Joseph ordered the chicken pad see ew with fried noodles. He said it tasted good. On my part, I liked eating it. The flavor tasted perfect. However, the server ended up being a bit curt with me when I asked if the vegetarian Pad Kee Mao did come with tofu. The server said abruptly (and a bit rudely), "No. No. it's either chicken, beef or tofu." She pointed at the menu. I said fine. The interaction made me think, she wanted to get out of there and did not want to be there anymore. While looking around the restaurant, I saw one other female customer sitting at Green Leaf Thai Cuisine. The ambience featured music by Alisha Keys, and Jay-Z and other contemporary music artists. The restaurant looks well kept.

Yelp
I love Thai food! Green leaf is one of my local go tos for takeout and we decided to try dine in and we were really pleased with the experience. Very solid entree dishes especially pad see ew (with crispy noodles). And peanut lovers dish! Their tiger cry and Tom yum soup make great appetizers. Would recommend you get a reservation , as we walked in and they were able to accommodate. Very busy on Friday nights. Cool atmosphere for hanging out with people or just grabbing a quick dinner. #thai #asian

Yelp
We came here just randomly strolling Lincoln park. It's a pretty nice spot as per the interior. Lots of wood and Thai art. They linked up three lots to make a big space. I got pad see iew with chicken and I opted for crispy fried noodles. She had veggie pad kee Mao. Everything thing was pretty tasty. I've been honestly craving crispy noodles so it was a good that's offered for half of their noodle dishes. Service was ok-ish, like an air of impatience. Not really cordial but getting the job done. I think it was late on a Sunday before a holiday and was pretty empty and looked like staff just wanted to get out. But I liked it and the food was really tasty. I'd try again on a regular night.

Emily B.

Yelp
We got to go, and the food was fine. Crab Rangoon has a strong celery flavor, and the pad tide does not have enough brightness of flavor for us. We had our own limes thankfully. It was ready when we got there though.

Diana H.

Yelp
A friend recommended this place and I'm so glad that she did. I'll definitely be coming back again. Especially since I'd gotten so hooked on their yellow curry dish! - - Amongst other ones as well. Lastly, the customer service was great and the server was extremely polite. Can't believe I never knew about this place living so close to it.

Ivan K.

Yelp
Used to eat here quite often when I lived in the Lincoln Square area. Unfortunately the food has gone downhill and the way they manage their app doesn't make sense. No required selection for spice so they defaulted the spice level of my Panang Curry to mild many times (just make that selection a requirement). I've never had Panang Curry this bland its consistency is closer to oatmeal with a spice level similar to what Masaman Curry would be. I would recommend opting for many of the other authentic Thai places in Chicago that cook their curries at a spice level that best represents the curry. The last few experiences ordering out from this place have been a waste of money and food at best.

Heather P.

Yelp
Had takeout for the first time from here and it was good, but I'm still searching for my Pad Thai of dreams miracle and this wasn't it. The Peanut Lover's sauce was pretty darn tasty though so I would order this again and skip the Pad Thai. Curious how the Panang is as I was also eyeing that on the menu. I guess we shall have to return to find out.

Samara L V.

Yelp
Disgusting, don't waste your time. The food tastes grosss. The beef is practically white and doesn't taste like beef either. DIGUSTING!!!!!!!

Winnie C.

Yelp
Located in downtown Lincolnwood. Parking can be tricky as many neighborhoods are permit only. This restaurant is right off the Western stop on the brown line. The interior decor was traditional Thai and the restaurant was not well lit. Service was attentive and quick. Food was subpar and came in small portion. We tried their seafood soup which was mostly water and imitation crab. The squash curry, one of their signature dishes, was creamy. However, the squash was kinda hard. We also ordered their whole chicken, also their signature dish, it tasted like rotisserie chicken at any grocery store... I really wanted to like the restaurant as they seemed to want to promote authentic Thai cuisine... Needs to pay attention to the quality and freshness of their food .

Eileen B.

Yelp
Delish food. Wish I got a photo of the crab Rangoon ! We ate it before I thought of that. Loved the pad Thai !

Ali B.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food! Thai is one of my favorite meals to get out, green leaf was amazing. It was walking distance from where my sister and I had taken a yoga class. My sister got for tofu satay and I got the khao soy with vegetables instead of protein. The khao soy was creamy and spicy , the veggies were soft and delicious. I had some of the cucumbers that came with my sisters tofu too and they were good. My sister loved the khao soy too. Definitely reasonable prices too for a large portion. Really glad we came here.

Leilani L.

Yelp
Ordered the tom yum fried rice and was disappointed. It tasted like fish sauce and lime with rice. However, my mom liked her egg drop and ground chicken soup. Also, their Thai iced coffee was good.

Scott J.

Yelp
The spices were delicious and right on target. A few new dishes that we have not had before. Mmmm. BYOB with Singhas from liquor store next door.

Marlyse W.

Yelp
The Crying Tiger is the best I've ever had. Beef grilled with slight char and great dipping sauce. I'm sorry I moved out of the neighborhood that they deliver to.

Kaitlin K.

Yelp
Pretty solid Thai food! The pad Thai was really tasty but I wish there was slightly more sauce. The panang was out of this world delicious. The basil fried rice wasn't spicy at all but I may not have specified so that might be on me. Will try again requesting a higher spice level and I bet it will be great!

Xavier M.

Yelp
Prices are reasonable, despite inflation. Food is good. Love their appetizers, curry fried rice, basil fried rice, cashew beef, and iced coffee. Friendly staff, and I enjoy coming here alone to decompress and eat, while reading my magazines or e-book. They do a lot of take out business and obviously, delivery. They accommodate larger parties, but they seat them accordingly, so that couples or lone diners are not disturbed. Good ambiance!

Jose A. V.

Yelp
Great food and good team work and good location for business highly culinary skill work

Charles B.

Yelp
A++ Thai spot. Randomly stopped by here on a rainy day and ordered amazing food. The red curry squash is a must try, along with the soup: Tom Ka Kai (chicken). Cool dining area and very nice, attentive staff.

Allison T.

Yelp
I was so saddened when Thai Opart closed down but when I saw Green Leaf opened up, we gave it a try. We tried several times takeout during the pandemic. I have never dined in. I was a bit disappointed about the menu prices because although Apps like DoorDash are easy to order, I gave them a phone call to place order and found that the price is the same as the App. Customer service is very nice. Fair warning: their food in general is on the SWEET side. I don't mind my food sweet, so it's ok for me. Pro tip: if your order is more than $50, mention free crab Rangoon when calling. Here's what we ordered: +3 moo ping (a10) $8.99 each my kids absolutely love it. Each order comes with 6 (I think?) sticks. Each of my kid can eat the whole order so hence 3 orders. It's like the pork skewer street food in Thailand. +1 sticky rice $3 a must order to accompany moo ping +1 vegetable pad see ew (d47) $10.59 +1 pad kra praow (g77) $10.99 +1 tofu pad thai (d44) $10.59 +1 tofu Penang curry (h82) $12.59 +1 side thin rice noodle $3 +Free crab Rangoon +Thai Iced Tea $3.99 Will definitely order takeout again.

Yelp
Great service i went with my son and he got fresh lemonade and he LOVE it We love this place!

Daniel M.

Yelp
Great spot for Thai! Atmosphere dining in was very nice and a great spot for date night. Only time it is loud is when the L goes by. Food and service also great!

Steven N.

Yelp
We came here for dinner with the family. The menu is pretty standard Thai fare, the dining room is clean but worn, portion sizes are reasonable and prices are high but competitive with similar places in Chicago. Service was very courteous too. The only thing missing was tasty food! We started with wonton soup and mee krob, or should I say bland broth with overcooked dumplings and crispy, unexciting, sticky noodles? This was followed by Pad Thai, also known as gummy, tasteless rice noodles sprinkled with carrots and peanuts. And we finally had Jungle Curry, an exciting bowl of watery, nearly flavorless red curry with little flecks of shredded shoe leather floating around. I can see why they picked the catchy name for a dish that immediately reminded me of jungle rot (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_ulcer). Okay, I take back the last comment whose humor was too harsh. Even before eating any of the dishes above I could see that the food was relatively colorless and watery; unattractive presentation consistent with the complete lack of flavor or appropriate texture. The best things about the meal were the steamed white rice and the jasmine tea which were both a la carte items for which we paid extra.

Yelp
This place is a bomb. I live close by, I think I had a lunch there and wasn't that impressed so I didn't come back. But recently friends have been talking about this place and I decided to give it a second try. Oh my oh my it was so good!!!! I had the Thai seafood hotpot, it was spicy and fresh. The best part is that you can grab beer next door and it's byob. I highly recommend this place and I ll definitely come back!!!

Lynn M.

Yelp
Pad thai More on the sweeter side. Ordered it with shrimp. It came with about 5 jumbo pieces of shrimp. Topped with peanuts and carrot shavings Curry fried rice This was fried rice mixed with dry curry seasoning. This was good. Wish it was a little more spicy but it was not too bad Tiger cry This was really good. It tasted like dried beef but with the sauce made it really flavorful Peanut sauce egg roll Interesting wrap with tofu and cucumber topped with peanut sauce. We wanted to try it because everyone on Yelp talked about it. Crab Rangoon This was not to bad they were jumbo definitely had more breading than the filling.

Mary T.

Yelp
We're constantly searching for places that let you choose the spice level and actually deliver on it. Most times we're underwhelmed by the level of spice. We ordered the fried shrimp rolls to share and each got a panang curry hot. The shrimp rolls were good; I'm usually a crab rangoon gal, but these didn't disappoint. My husband has a high tolerance for spice and was pleased with his chicken panang curry. Next time, I'm going to take it down a notch. Mine was good, but just on the verge of being too spicy for me. In terms of protein, each had a good amount; usually another area of disappointment. Overall, we were very happy with our meal from Green Leaf

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Very average. Pad thai- large portion but barely any flavor on it, so was like a blow of noodles. Chicken was dry. Pad se ew - little more favor but overall just ... blah. Meat isn't high quality. If you like noodles more crispy on the edges, pass on this one.

Nicole M.

Yelp
**** I want to preface this review with the caveat that I tried calling the restaurant 5 times tonight about the food quality and was unable to reach anyone*** Green Leaf has been our regular Thai place for over 17 years, even back when it was Opart Thai. We were happy with the food after the new owners took over 5-6 years ago and have had absolutely no complaints. Tonight we placed our usual delivery order and we were surprised by the change in the quality of the food. I am actually questioning if the food that was delivered to us came from Green Leaf ( hence my numerous calls to them) I would really like a representative from the restaurant to contact me to clear this up. Our dinner tonight was nowhere near the quality of food we have had from you in the past.

Joe R.

Yelp
I am a Thai. I know Thai food. I know how it should taste and how to prepare it. This place should not be designated as a Thai Cuisine place. I ordered Pad Kra Praow, Catfish Prik Chu-chi, Moo Ping, and Fried Rice. Not a single dish came close to the traditional Thai cooking in every which way. On top of that, I suffered so badly from food poisoning. I had tummy ache, diarrhea, and vomiting, (no fever). I did not go to the hospital ER because I thought the symptoms would go away but they lasted 3 days, horrible. I will NEVER go back to this place EVER again. Beware. You have been warned!

janie c.

Yelp
Love this place so much! The food is always fresh and well prepared. We like that it is standard Thai flavors. Nothing crazy, just delicious Thai favorites. But even more important; they have the friendliest service. We are there a lot so they always greet us like we are old friends but we notice that they are super kind to everyone. As others said; this used to be Opart Thai; but it is so much better now with the new owners and we hope they stay here forever! Thanks so much to the entire team!

Cason C.

Yelp
love this place! the food is excellent, servers are very nice, prices are reasonable. great vegan and vegetarian options (ask for no fish sauce and no egg!) great location too right by the brown line western stop. fav dishes are tofu pad thai and yellow curry

Yelp
How is this place sitting at 4 stars on yelp?...Has anyone eaten at other Thai spots in the city of chicago? Where to begin...Well for starters the 2 stars im giving is for the Mee Krob only which was fantastic and if you're looking for world star Mee Krob this is the spot. Everything else was pretty bad...Menu says Jasmin rice but instead they gave me cheap badly cooked soggy white rice. The spring rolls were mushy and I mistakenly got the peanut spring rolls aka spring rolls badly done and smothered with peanut sauce...bad tasting peanut sauce to boot. Pad Garlic chicken was cooked to the point of being totally dried out and garlic sauce was overly salty. The tofu yellow curry was an abomination and also salty with a weird after taste. The cucumber salad was dry with all the vinegar sauce sitting on the plate so I mixed In the sauce and wow, I wish I should have just eaten dry cucumber because the sauce was off....How do you mess up cucumber salad? And the final nail in the coffin is even the Thai ice tea was not good with strange after taste. It doesn't help that I've just eaten at the amazing Thai Pastry in Argyle on Asia area and Indie restaurant in Edgewater. Go to these 2 spots instead...I wont be back.

Maria Y.

Yelp
Delicious food at an affordable price very quick service and cleanly place. I highly recommend for a quick bite to eat or a nice dinner.

Kathy B.

Yelp
If I could give 3.5 I would but if it's between 3 or 4 then it is 3. The food is fine, standard average thai takeout. We had pad Thai with tofu, pad see ew with tofu + extra veggies, and veggie egg rolls. The rolls tasted fine but were absolutely overpriced. Paying $6.99 for 3 small egg rolls? Ridiculous. The pad see ew had a pathetic amount of Chinese broccoli in it. I asked for extra veggies however and did notices that--just barely any Chinese broccoli in the mix if any...if I hadn't ordered extra veggies it probably wouldn't have been worth it. Again, the food was fine, not bad. It just wasn't exceptional and some portioning was really paltry.

Kat J.

Yelp
Ordered takeout here. The portion of a $15 pad kee mao was the size of a lean cuisine, and it tasted plain. The dinning room had a bad smell. Will not order again.

Chelsea M.

Yelp
Ordered on Uber eats and 10/10 for the red curry squash. Will come back and order that over and over again. We got the spicy level which was definitely spicy. The sauce is soooo flavorful and delicious. Best curry I've had in Chicago! Sadly, we weren't impressed with the veggie spring rolls, but we will go back for the red curry squash.

Alexander C.

Yelp
Great spot to warm you up on a cold Chicago evening. Loved both the green and panang curry. Very flavourful and the perfect spiciness. I ordered medium and it was still enough heat so I'm guessing spicy is pretty hot! Would recommend sharing a few things with friends or ordered from here!

Yelp O.

Yelp
Average quality thai food. Surprisingly expensive. Slow delivery our house is only 4 blocks away.

Andy F.

Yelp
We used to love this place. Our favorite in the area. We looked forward to going for a nice Thai meal. Tonight - very disappointing. I ordered a dish which was, in my judgment, inedible. I sent it back and asked for a replacement. Got charged for both. That's bad form. The rest of the food we ordered was ... very average. That's too bad; we'll have to find a different "go to" Thai place in our neighborhood.

Saturn Girl C.

Yelp
08232023 It's a record-breaking evening, humidity and heat in the triple digits, Chicago River or ...Chao Praya ambience? We needed a quick dinner, and Green Leaf Thai Cuisine on Western was more than willing to elevate! Tonight I stumbled upon Bami Moo Dang, BBQ pork, egg vermicelli, and bok choy with or without the light broth. I picked the light broth and was transformed. This slightly sweet, complex and savory brew left me completely sated and ready for more. I was transported back to Khao San Road in the '90s and so grateful to have Green Leaf in our neighborhood.

Lucy F.

Yelp
Overall the restaurant was not super busy, and it was very clean. I had their peanut sauce spring rolls, and the chicken Pad Thai. Both were cooked to perfection and the taste was on point. Next time I will try the spring rolls, but I will request the peanut sauce on the side, it's a bit overwhelming. The Pas Thai was good and the noodles where soft.

Cecilia C.

Yelp
The most authentic Thai restaurant you could find in Chicago! So happy to be able to come in to eat again. Really missed their food. Our server even remembered all my dietary restrictions and made my Pad Thai according to that. Very impressed also by their interior. Loved their cleanliness and ambience. Definitely my new fav spot to hit in town!

Ms. P.

Yelp
I was impressed with the packing the did, this did it for me! I ordered through GH. I ordered crab rangoons & lad na.... They actually packed the noodles & gravy separate! I was able to make my noodles crispy & add an egg to it! This is a huge plus since I grew up on this food & able to do a minor tweek when it got to me-CRISPY NOODLE!

Bernard D.

Yelp
I've tried this spot 3 times .. the food is good so this will attract some for security of satisfaction in quality, the problem is the consistent inconsistency in the quantity of each meal. When there's a visual difference something's wrong. I suggest you start weighing because this isn't working for me. Now I know

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Their beef pad thai was horrible. Beef was so tough and flavorless. It was like the beef was cook separately from the noodles and just tossed in at the end. The noodles didn't taste like anything either. The woon sen glass noodle pad thai was more flavorful than the regular pad thai. Their tiger cry beef dish was very tasty and was my favorite. P.S. Togo portions are smaller than other restaurants.

Jessica D.

Yelp
Good food! Satisfied :) The food was packed neatly in small boxes; but my daughter and I couldn't finish 1 whole box of pad Thai. It's full of food in the box. Tastes good and fully packed!

Connie K.

Yelp
Hubby and I picked up food to go on a weekday for lunch and our order was ready within the designated time. We read another review that mentioned that the portions were small so we ordered three dishes just in case which was unnecessary since the portion sizes are decent. I had the khao soy while hubby had the pad Thai and we split a pad see ewe. We chose chicken as our meat for all of the dishes and it was very tough and chewy in all three dishes. The flavor of the dishes was pretty standard but the chicken was so hard to eat that I just ate around it.
