Mattie’s At Green Pastures - Review - Bouldin - Austin - The Infatuation

"If you’re looking for a historic mansion where you can pull off a sun hat or some seersucker, try Mattie’s in Bouldin Creek. For the last 70+ years, people from across Austin have come here for Easter brunches, wedding receptions, and close encounters with the peacocks who roam the grounds. The rooms within the mansion vary from a pastel-colored bar ideal for drinking milk punch, to a cozy lounge with a fireplace and a big leather sofa perfect for sipping bourbon, to the giant wraparound porch that you might design for your dream house. At night, the place takes on a more romantic feel, and it’s a great place to take your parents, to celebrate an anniversary, or for a group brunch where everyone wears their best seersucker. The food has an upgraded old-school feel with a menu that skews southern but with the occasional Texas accent, so expect a bone-in pork chop with creamy grits, a wood-grilled steak with bordelaise, and a superb fried chicken served with mashed potatoes that get a serious upgrade of brown butter, bacon, and gouda. photo credit: Julie Wilhite How to get into Mattie's At Green Pastures A dinner reservation at Mattie’s isn’t too difficult to get your hands on, but you’re not here for dinner—you’re here for brunch. Reservations open up a month in advance, and you’ll need to be right on time if you want to secure a weekend table." - Raphael Brion

I recently stayed at the Inn at Green Pastures and had a truly excellent experience. The property’s oak-shaded grounds and rich history create a relaxing, elegant retreat in the city. The staff were outstanding - friendly, attentive, and genuinely focused on making guests feel taken care of. I also loved the thoughtful design touches inspired and the mix of comforts like the pool, bar and peaceful outdoor spaces. Attention to detail was great across the board. I’d absolutely stay here again.

Its a beautiful charming house renovated to a restaurant. The food was good. You are only allowed to have one hour and 39 minutes at the table. They will ask you to leave. Do not bring elderly people who take their time or indecisive people. Know what you are eating before you go. The time is ticking

We had our wedding here in April 2025 and the Mattie’s / Green Pastures team did a fantastic job. The staff were kind, well-organized, and helpful. The food was incredible - we got many complements, especially on the vegetarian dishes - which can be an afterthought. The venue was beautiful and felt like a great size for our group of 100 with dinner under the tent and reception in Marion Hall. And the peacocks added a touch of magic! Though there was ongoing construction on the hotel and grounds, they did a great job of making it nearly invisible on the wedding day. The fact that Mattie’s provides everything from food from the onsite restaurant, through linens, tables, chairs, etc, made it a lot easier to organize and less stressful on the day of. Thanks for a weekend that we’ll never forget!

First time in this hidden gem. Everything was great, from service to the food we ordered, even the drinks. Definitely will return with family and friends. P.S. did I mention the beautiful peacocks walking around? They are beautiful. Love this place. There is no other in Austin. 👍🏽♥️

Very good experience went there for my birthday for brunch and was seated outdoors. The drinks, the food, and the service were impeccable. Beautiful scenery. Parking is a bit tight and they do have reservations only but tables are well placed and distant. Our waitress was so sweet and very attentive. Loved loved this place. I Will definitely go back for dinner. The chillaquiles are amazing and the biscuits were also very good. Kind of wish they asked if you need hot sauce or any condiments but seriously the food was so hot and good that I can totally overlook it.

Beautiful place for a meal or wedding type event. We had a dinner meal in a Friday night. Reservations are encouraged. We didn’t have them and were seated quickly outside. It was amazing. The have huge peacocks on the grounds strolling around. The place is immaculate. Food was good and averaged about $45/pp wo alcohol. Plan to return. Recommended.

I'm biased towards Green Pastures because I asked my wife to marry me in the Gazebo out back behind the restaurant after a great dinner. 8 months later we got married in the very same gazebo. Dinner: as good as it gets in Austin for contemporary American cuisine. Brunch: absolutely fantastic buffet, but the star is the deadly Milk Punch. This stuff is the nectar of the gods. Just don't drink too much on a Sunday morning. Catering: They catered my wedding reception too, and we received numerous compliments about how this was the best wedding fare they had ever had. Pretty reasonable price too. The house is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful. Watch out for peacocks on a nocturnal rampage though. One jumped out of a tree and let out a terrifying scream in front of me one time. One more thing: their special prix fixe dinners for various occasions are fantastic and extravagant. Even the vegetarian meal is top notch (someone let me taste).
