Gregoire Berkeley - Review - Berkeley - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"You know that saying, “The most popular person at the picnic is the person who brings the Gregoire potato puffs”? No? Maybe it hasn’t secured its place in our national vocabulary yet, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Gregoire is a tiny, to-go picnic supply spot that does a bunch of great sandwiches, but its stars are the potato puffs, which are like tater tots but infinitely better. They’re crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and it’s technically impossible to order enough of them. Order ahead online, pick up as much food as you can carry, and enjoy a picnic with friends at Tilden park. Or in your living room. photo credit: Krescent Karasso" - Amy Clark

Berkeley Targets Disposable Foodware With New Ordinance - Eater SF

"Gregoire Jacquet, the owner of 16-year-old Gregoire’s, tells the San Francisco Chronicle that his entire business model is based on to-go orders — the compostable requirement is no problem, but he does have a few seats. 'I can’t say you can’t eat here. I don’t have the means to wash dishes,' he says." - Janelle Bitker

Great place for dinner or lunch. The sauces made both items more delicious. Potato puffs were great, as usual. I liked that they had a lean steak sandwich option. The lamb sandwich has been a little too fatty for me. So, I like that they had healthier options.

Google
Food is SO delicious. Everything is so well made, buns are perfectly crispy, the flavor combinations are perfection, and it always tastes SO good! Their pulled pork sandwich and garlic bread and soup are amazing. And you always feel amazing after eating their food (I don’t know how to explain it but you feel so healthy and you know the food is high quality and tastes so freshhh). It can be a bit pricy for the portions especially if you’re a big eater, but the taste and quality of the food makes it so worth it! Expect to pay like $16 for each item if you’re getting meat! Minimal seating, more of a killer takeout place! Probably one of the best (if not the best) places in Berkeley (in my humble opinion). Here’s half of my pulled pork sandwich which had avocado, tomatoes, cilantro, and a bit of onion and was so perfectly seasoned and spicy.

Had a wonderful experience. I ordered the steak sandwich and potato puffs. It was so delicious. Exceeded my expectations. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. My food came out super quick. It was an amazing experience!

Google
My fried chicken sandwich was very tasty with perfectly prepared, moist, tender chicken and a French roll. The customers at the tables outside all had potato balls and were raving about them, so I tried these with Parmesan. The sandwich portion was large enough I wasn’t able to eat more than one of the potato balls, which were good if you like fried mashed potato. (Not my thing.). The fries looked even better. There were many different vegetarian sandwich options, and all sandwiches were available as salads. The outdoor seating was limited but pleasant. On a bad weather day you’d have to grab and go as there is no indoor seating. The staff were friendly, the service was quick.

IG: @foodsbysachi This spot is conveniently located right by campus and offers some delicious sandwiches, salads, and of course POTATO PUFFS!! Wow lemme tell you - they were worth the hype. So crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Their sandwiches are BIG and filled with so many fresh and delicious ingredients. The dessert was also super good - the chocolate fold pastry being my favorite 😍 Hands down will be visiting this cute spot again!! Note: Their menu changes every quarter so make sure to visit often to try all their items! They have limited indoor and outdoor seating and only street parking.

Very cute place and great food. Very crowded generally but we visited in off campus season in May on Sunday so was not crowded.

Google
Two words: potato puffs! Such a delicious and unique twist on potatoes. The best way to describe them is like tiny crispy pockets of fried mashed potatoes. I also highly recommend the fried buttermilk sandwich with spicy slaw, beats any hot chicken sandwich. We also recommend trying the flank steak salad and garlic fries 🔥

Google
Great place! It’s close to my office so I love walking over and getting a sandwich. I got the fried chicken this time and it was good! I hope the bring the egg sandwich back.

Yelp
Bless this place and may it live on for many more years to come! My sister and I both went to Berkeley. She introduced me to the magic of Gregoire potato puffs one day when we were students, and the rest is history!!! Whenever I come here, I have to get the potato puffs and sometimes I only get the potato puffs lol. It's also a great spot to get my poutine fix, because I'm Canadian! I hope that potato puffs and poutine never leave the menu. Meanwhile, I recently tried their fried chicken sandwich and the corned beef sandwich! I actually really enjoyed the corned beef sandwich. The bread was like the bread you'd get on a grilled cheese sandwich. The taste and flavor was on point. The fried chicken was honestly not my favorite but mainly because I prefer dark meat and this was all white meat! I prefer like Popeyes lol for fried chicken. In any case, most everything is delicious here and it's truly a gem! I'm glad they're still alive and well and I hope they are a staple of the Berkeley food scene for many more years to come! Also they have a great, worthwhile rewards program! I shall continue to be a loyal customer here. There are maybe only four tables total for outside seating, so try to come at a non-prime time to snag a table or you may have to eat in the car! Street parking may be tricky as well depending when you come but doable!

Yelp
Chicken sandwich is perfect and runs laps on other menu items. Too much butter on the super popular potato balls, but still worth a try. I got the seasonal veggie wrap and it was okay! Decent sandwich place and hope to try more seasonal wraps and the salads, too.

Yelp
Great Spot for a Quick Bite This place is perfect if you're craving a solid salad or sandwich. The food is fresh, flavorful, and the portions are just right. Plus, the staff is super friendly, which is always a bonus. It's a cute little spot with only two picnic tables out front, so it's got a chill, low-key vibe. Definitely worth checking out! They have a special discount via DoorDash which made me stop by in the first place!

Yelp
Great fried chicken sandwich . I would suggest upgrade the bread roll . Excellent spicy slaw !!

Yelp
I hadn't been back here since 2021 and it was just as delicious as I remembered! My boyfriend and I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, the pork patties burger, and the potato puffs with added parmesan. I appreciate that the sandwiches come already cut in half, perfect for sharing! The fried chicken sandwich had a spicy kick without being overwhelming, and both sandwiches were very flavorful and filling. The potato puffs, which I hadn't tried before, are crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside -- they almost melt in your mouth. This was a wonderful meal for a casual lunch date and I look forward to coming back! There are a few picnic tables right out front but this is primarily a takeout spot. We arrived shortly before noon and they already seemed to have quite a few orders and patrons. We were lucky to snag one of the tables and got to enjoy our meal in the sunshine.

Yelp
No other form of potato will be as delicious and perfect as the potato puff Tbh I've never tried any of Grégoire's other food besides the puffs, so this was a nice surprise! We came in on a sunny Sunday morning for brunch. It wasn't terribly crowded, but the little outside seating provided was full and we went vulture mode for our spot haha I ordered the bay scallops salad and ofc the puffs. The salad was refreshing, I loved the wide variety of greens and textures. They give a lot of scallops as well. Potato puffs are obviously the star. They're light, fluffy, smooth, crispy. Just amazing. If I could only have one form of potato for the rest of my life, it would be gregoire potato puffs. Service is also 10/10. Very accommodating and warm. Highly recommend everyone change their life and eat a potato puff pls!!!

Yelp
As a die hard potato lover, Gregoire was superb! We came here on a Sunday afternoon and they have a couple picnic style tables out front. The lines weren't too long but the place was relatively busy with many ordering to-go. We tried the potato puffs and the poutine. Potato puffs were 5/5!!! Soooo good. They were basically these fried mashed potato balls that were deep fried. Came out super hot and the garlic aioli was excellent! Poutine was 4/5 - pretty darn good for the Bay Area! It's super hard to find poutine in the Bay and as a Canadian, I've missed this snack! The cheese curbs and gravy were on point! Only wished the fries were a little on the crispier side! But good nonetheless. If only my diet and weight would allow me to eat at this place all the time... :)

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked for several years now, but I'm hardly ever in the area, so it's totally slipped my mind. I was visiting downtown Berkeley today to try out a nearby brewery and came across this place while looking on google maps, so I made sure to finally visit and try out their famous potato balls! I got two orders of the original potato balls with the aioli & damn this was soooo delicious! Definitely beats every other potato bal/croquettes out there! It came out piping fresh, with ooey gooey pillowy potato on the inside, and a slightly crispy, but fragile crust. Simply perfect. I 100% will stop by this place again next time I'm in the area! Only thing is, I really, really wish they had a restroom!

Yelp
Came for my birthday lunch and was not disappointed! I've came alone in the past for their fried chicken sandwich and potato puffs, but decided to bring some coworkers along to taste the magic. I really enjoy their rotating seasonal menu that keeps things interesting. This time I ordered their salmon lime ceviche sandwich (summer 2024 menu) which also had avocado and taro chips thrown onto Dutch crunch bread. A little skeptical of fish sandwiches, but it blew me away in terms of substance and flavor. I of course had to order the potato puffs and share the love. Service was quick and sweet even though they were busy with the lunch rush. They operate out of a simple shack for lack of a better word, but at least you know you're coming for the food and not paying extra for the ambiance. Hope to be back soon and try yet another sandwich (or maybe a salad)

Yelp
I would give 4.5 stars if I could because my only complaint is no indoor seating and not enough coleslaw in the sandwich. I grew up coming here w my dad before going to Cal football games and I went back today (random Tuesday) with some friends. We went around 12:15pm and there was no line and plenty of seating available which is often not the case. I'm the past we'd sit on the steps of some random house nearby, the neighborhood is nice and we haven't had problems with that... Today I got the classic fried chicken sandwich and my vegetarian friend got the egg salad sandwich (it's only here for the summer). I loved mine but wish it was spicier and had more coleslaw, and from what I can tell she loved her sandwich too. We got the iconic potato puffs to share and omg they never disappoint!! I come back here about once a year, and my friends said they definitely wanna come back too :)

Yelp
When living in North Berkeley in 2015 and 2016, I frequently passed Grégoire when walking to/from the grocery store. Sometimes the lines were long, but always the smell was good. So I noted it as a place to visit with someone from out of town. My sister, Lindsey, came to visit me in 2016 and had previously spent a few months in Paris, France, for cooking school. She seemed the perfect fit to bring here. We ordered in the restaurant, waited and grabbed our food boxes, and sat at a small table out front to eat our food. I ordered an omelette that came with potatoes served with a small amount of cream on top. The flavors were subtle yet present. Temperature wise, the omelette was steaming when I opened the box and all of the items were well cooked/an all clear texturally. In terms of ambiance, the workers and decor made it a memorable experience for me. For my sister, it was a little less so in part because of her recent memories of French food in France.

Yelp
Im a huge fan of their potato puffs here. I used to get it often when I was a student at Berkeley and even now, after 10+ years later, I always make sure I get these whenever I visit Berkeley. It still tastes AMAZING. The salt? Or seasoning inside the puff is very good, and the crumb isnt too heavy, it just melts in your mouth. Ambiance is like a cute patio type of restaurant, very casual and it has its own charm. Usually french restaurants can be fancy but i like this chill, casual vibe of Gregoire. Keep up the good business and never change!

Yelp
I didn't realize how close this place was to a very popular Pizza place we love. I remember seeing this place on Yelp and I finally had the chance to drop by the area and check it out. Since I was in a hurry, I pre-ordered via Toast App. Parking was annoying haha. It was around 2p, and I couldn't find any street parking. I eventually found one after circling around a few times. As I was walking to the place, I noticed a few tables outside for seating. I didn't realize there wasn't any indoor seating, unless I completely missed it. I entered the door and was greeted right away. I gave my name and the friendly gentlemen gave me my potato puffs. Now, I had really high expectations for these haha. I guess that's sometimes the downfall of reading reviews before hand haha. It was very fluffy and airy, which is definitely the only way you can describe it. It does like melt as you eat it. Oh, pro tip, don't just pop a whole one in your mouth, you will get burned haha. The flavor was good, but nothing like super wow! I wouldn't make a trip down here just for the potato puffs, but when in the area to get my favorite pizza, I may stop by.

Yelp
This place has fantastic food. Everything is super flavorful and rich. The fried chicken sandwich has a spicy coleslaw that goes excellent with the chicken. Although I got it on the side because I wasn't sure how spicy it was, I would definitely get it on the sandwich. The chicken itself is a large portion that is fried well. It is a basic chicken cutlet with minimal seasoning, but when paired with the aioli and the coleslaw, it packs a flavor punch. The bread for the sandwich is crispy and light. The potato puffs are immaculate. The first bites of them are rich, light, pillowy, and fluffy. That is, until the 4-5th puff when you start getting full and every bite becomes denser and denser and the richness becomes overwhelming. Essentially, they are creamy, flavorful mashed potato balls that are dipped in batter and fried to perfection. I did add the garlic and cheese to mine and I would do it all again. It goes great with the aioli, but it does start to get heavy, if you're eating it by yourself like I was. I can eat a lot, however, with this food, I actually wasn't able to finish it and what I got easily could've fed 2 smaller adults. It could've been because it was my first meal of the day, but alas, this meal left me feeling like it was nap time. Glad I tried this place. You can either order at the kiosk on the side and explore the menu yourself, or you can go inside and order at the register and experience the service.

Yelp
Northside staple that I always miss. Super fresh ingredients and always long lines when I walk by. The potato puffs really are extremely addicting and are gone before you know it. The tangy aioli (mayonnaise?) complements perfectly. You can tell they make their chicken sandwiches with lots of love and care. Soup is 10/10.

Yelp
Unfortunately underwhelming :( I was really looking forward to checking out Grégoire because of all the hype! But it didn't live up to the hype... I ordered the Pulled Chicken sandwich and Potato Puffs (Garlic & Parsley). I chose the pulled chicken sandwich because I really wanted ciabatta. It was decent, but nothing really special. I wish there were some veggies added in the sandwich. I feel like that would've combined well with the chicken and cheese. A lot of people rave about potato puffs so I was really excited to try those too. For me, it was a little too oily. It was a good first bite but not something that I'd eat a lot of. Overall, everything was a little underwhelming on the seasoning side for me. Beautiful setup and outdoor seating tho! Also, the food was ready really quickly. I plan on coming back again to give the food another chance. I'm hoping my mind will be changed! Looking forward to trying it again! (I also love the packaging. That only made me want to love my Grégoire tasting experience more. Overall, sadly, a little bit disappointed.)

Yelp
The are is tucked in a residential street and has an open storefront with a total of four benches outside. They have a self-order kiosk on the side if you don't feel like ordering directly with the staff. I ordered the tomato garlic pulled beef sandwich. I thought I'd get a whole sandwich, but to my pleasant surprise they were sliders. The flavor of the beef was rich and it was very tender. I loved the caramelized onions and pickle. I also ordered the potato puffs with garlic and herbs. The flavor was very nice; I enjoyed the crispy outside and the mashed potato inside. It was served with a sauce but I found just the flavors of the garlic and herbs were sufficient on their own. This place is on the pricier side for sandwiches and salad but the flavors are delightful.

Yelp
I went on a surprise trip to Gregoire after I signed up for their FB messenger deal ($10 off any purchase of $25 or more). Parking was relatively easy to find around the corner, though that might be because we went around 1pm on a Wednesday. The self-order kiosk in the alley way is no longer there, though the sign addressing you to it still is. I went to order at the kiosk inside, but there was no option to add the coupon code (you have to order at the register to do so). Also, the functionality of the coupon code wasn't working--the button to press to redeem wasn't showing up. I showed the employee my phone and he said that was strange and should be working. Either way, I got the discount. Service was great, there was plenty of seating at the benches outside (there are bees around though, if you're allergic/scared), and the food came out hot and fast. My sister and I got: - The fried buttermilk chicken filet with spicy cole slaw, garlic & cilantro dressing. The dressing was FANTASTIC and very reminiscent of Brazil Cafe's, though creamier. She said the chicken was a little dry though. Otherwise, the salad was good. - Soup of the day (vegetarian chili). This is more of a watery chili than a thick one, with the only beans being kidney. The flavor was alright, but it was WAY TOO SALTY. I ended up eating it with some sourdough toast I had at home; I would not recommend getting garlic bread there to pair with it, because the sodium content was already out of control. - Crispy potato puffs. I normally always get the garlic parsley ones, but this time I went with the original. The texture is spot on, as per usual. I find the original (with the...mustard aioli?) to be a little bland. Definitely recommend just paying the extra few bucks to get one of the toppings.

Yelp
The last time I came to Gregoire's was over 10 years ago because I live an hour away on the other side of the Bay. I remember being obsessed with the potato puffs after my visit and wanting to recreate it at home but it never happened. I finally made it back here again and the potato puffs are just as good as I remembered. Yes, it's basically fried mashed potato balls but the crispy exterior crust really elevates the mashed potatoes. The interior is fluffy and creamy at the same time. For potato lovers, this is a real treat. I also got the fried chicken sandwich because I can't say no to fried chicken. It's a pretty sizeable sandwich and I ended up taking home almost half my food as leftovers. The chicken is crispy and juicy on a bun with just the right amount of crisp on the outside and chewy soft interior. The slaw really adds flavor to the whole thing. The reason why I didn't have a complete half of a sandwich to take home was that despite being full, I took a few bites of the 2nd half because it was so good. Darn it Gregoire's. Why do you have to be located so far away from my home?

Yelp
Gregiore, a place I frequented during my college days. I frequently ate their entrees and potato puffs back then. Today is the first time in several years since I last ordered from here, so I was delighted to order some potato puffs with garlic and parsley. I also got their poutine which is a first. Mmmmm the potato puffs never fail to satisfy my taste buds. The crispy outer shell adds a lot of oomph to each bite and the taste of the contents mixed with the sauce is utter bliss. The poutine was decent and exactly what you would expect. My SO said he enjoyed this more than Porto's which speaks volumes.

Yelp
*3.5 stars Stopped by on a weekday for lunch around 1:30 PM, so I missed the lunch rush and was able to grab one of their outdoor tables. Got their two staple items, the fried chicken sandwich and the potato puffs. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the chicken sandwich - it was hot and crispy, but it did not have much flavor and tasted a bit bland. I added some of the mayo from the potato puffs onto the sandwich and it helped quite a bit! The chicken itself was also smaller than I expected. The potato puffs, though, were very good! They were super hot when fresh, and it paired well with the mayo. I got it with the parsley and garlic, but I would say that even if I got the plain puffs it has enough flavor with mayo. I had seen lots of social media posts about the food here, so I think I was a bit underwhelmed by the sandwich. If I'm in the area though, I would stop by again to try one of their seasonal sandwiches!

Yelp
We haven't been driving into Berkeley for some time any how we did this weekend wow wow I didn't know how much I must this place the chicken sandwich is bar none the best in town better than baked side Betty's the slaw is so spicy great bite to it chicken done perfectly. We also had an order of potato puffs with a great dipping sauce. We got there about 1230 the crowd just started so we got our order in time without waiting too long . We got a great seat outside there is only two benches so we got lucky. There is no inside seating . Parking is not bad around the street's traffic can get heavy around that area . I see lots of people just get a stairway to sit and eat . Anyway it's a nice little area around there very safe . Do my friends next time you are in the mood for the best chicken sandwich in town this is the place .

Yelp
Went to Gregoire's for dinner and got my food very quickly after ordering. I heard there was a monthly rotating menu for their sandwiches (keeping things interesting!) and came to try one of those and their potato puffs. We got a lamb tzatziki with mixed greens in lavash wrap, 1 order of regular potato puffs, and a small cup of tomato garlic soup. While I thoroughly enjoyed everything, my only gripe would be that my lavash wrap was slightly soggy just because the lamb was cooked to order, therefore, very hot. Juices dripping everywhere, and it made the greens inside soggy. The flavor was good however. Definitely recommend the potato puffs though! I will try it truffle flavored on my next visit.

Yelp
Grégoire is AMAZING!!!! The best sandwiches you can find in the area, super high quality ingredients and consistently delicious everytime. The potato puffs are an absolute must and I recommend trying all of the different sauces. The buttermilk fried chicken is perfect in every way: texture and flavor. The bread is fresh and crisp and high quality and pairs perfectly with the potato puffs. It's a very small shop but they have super fast/friendly service and also a little self-order kiosk on the side if the line is too long. This place is SUPER popular and parking is hard in the area. It also only has 2 outdoor seating/tables available so I recommend coming on the earlier side for lunch/dinner. 5/5 stars, will always come back here forever and ever!

Yelp
I used to come here all the time when I was a student at UC Berkeley and it's one of my all time favorite spots for brunch! They change their menu on a seasonal basis but the potato puffs always remain the same and its the most popular item. The puffs are incredibly crispy on the outside but perfectly fluffy on the inside, it's amazing. Everything is incredible and perfect to take on the go or to pick up for a cute little picnic in the nearby area! Service is incredibly friendly and efficient! There's only 2 tables/ benches on the outside but there's plenty of places you can go in the nearby area to take the goodies to go eat.

Yelp
Husband and I came here for lunch and ordered the potato puffs (of course!), the fried chicken sandwich, and a beef sandwich (cold cut, can't remember the name). All were incredibly tasty, and the warm and fluffy potato puffs with the curry dipping sauce were perfect with the cold and drizzly weather. The fried chicken sandwich is always a favorite; you can always see them fry the chicken on the spot. Service is also super friendly and quick. We didn't go on as busy a day as usual, but still, they had the orders out in around 10 minutes or less. Seating is a bit tricky, I saw most people doing takeout. If weather is good and you have a small enough group then the outside seating area is good to quickly munch and go. Husband's review: Sandwiches are extremely good and flavorful. Potato puffs were deliciously light and fluffy.

Yelp
Been to Gregoire a few times, and I really enjoyed the food. An obvious must is their potato puffs. As a potato lover, I was in heaven eating this. Every bite just gets better and better. The service is quick & there are about 2 tables to sit on outside, but other than that, the place is super small from the inside so it is better to pick up your food & eat somewhere else.

Yelp
***REVIEW UPDATED*** We need more people and businesses in the world like owner and restaurant, Grégoire. The owner spoke with me on the phone after my uncharacteristic/underwhelming experience. He expressed his regret and explained that the meat hadn't been properly prepared that day for various reasons, that they regularly rotate/try out new sauces for their potato puffs, etc. Grégoire went on to share how his team makes it a rule to follow up with any unsatisfied customer and make things right (he ended up offering my family a gift card and encouraged us to come back soon). While the food was delicious (like usual) upon return, the more important thing I'll remember from this experience is how Grégoire treated me and made me feel: he made me feel seen, valued, and heard, and that's more important any quality food. I'll be back soon, and highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a good meal made by good people.

Yelp
I was really drawn in by their crispy potato puffs that I saw on an Instagram reels ! (I am easily influenced lol) my boyfriend and I made a little lunch date in the area and we stopped by for some sandwiches and fore-mentioned potato puff. We were able to find parking about a block away and there was a short line when we stopped by on Saturday afternoon we opted for the tempura battered butternut squash sandwich and their fried chicken sandwich and of course, their potato puffs. This was on their fall 2023 menu, but I do think their fried chicken sandwich is there indefinitely. There were a 2 tables/benches by the window and a smaller table behind the tree but they were all filled when we got our order, that we ended up going to the Berkeley rose garden to sit and eat our lunch there. unfortunately I was pretty underwhelmed by the sandwiches. the fried chicken was just okay, there wasn't much flavor in the chicken, the coleslaw was mild but no much flavor besides that. The butternut squash was fried well, but that was it. Both could have been a lot better if there wasn't so much bread. The type of bread overwhelmed any flavor and kind of made both sandwiches a little dry. as for the potato puffs -- they were so good! they are worth coming here for. My boyfriend was a bit meh toward them since we were eating the sandwiches AND the puffs . It's pretty heavy since the puffs are pure potato. they are so fluffy and the truffle garlic sauce is creamy and pairs well with it. they are great to reheat in the air fryer if there is leftovers! I may come back to try their lamb sandwich... that was one of the sandwiches I was debating on but did not try. hopefully it will be much better the second time around

Yelp
This little place offers a nice menu with some good food. There is very little seating so unless it's a nice day and you come early you are likely to take away. The service is efficient and nice. I like they have an open kitchen.
google avatar

Claudia S.

Yelp
I enjoyed the sandwiches and the occasional soup on my last few visits. However, the storefront is teeny tiny so prepare to just take out and go. The potato balls are a bit dry after the first one so it's ideal to share. Lastly, their beverage options are bland bland bland. So all in all maybe to-go is better, but this is not a sandwich spot that I'd go out of the way for.

Yelp
Upon first glance you wouldn't realize that this place was a house that someone turned into a small storefront restaurant. While there is no indoor seating, there are two benches in front and a bench or two on the side of the place. There is only street parking and no restrooms though so be aware. They do have seasonal menus that you honestly can't go wrong with because everything here is delicious. I love their potato puffs because of that crispy taste and how buttery soft it is inside. If there is a line inside, you can also go to the left side of the place and they have a small kiosk that you can order your food. I like that the service here is fast and the people who work here are always helpful. I recommend trying this place out if you are ever in the area and want something good to have in your belly.

Yelp
Came on a really rainy night, so eating there was out of the question LOL. It's meant to be a takeout spot anyway, but there are two seats inside that are like bar seats and two small tables outside. Service was good, and I had a nice chat with the cashier about her pet cat! As for the food: We got the potato puffs and poutine because everyone has raved about their potato puffs. I got the white truffle essence for the potato balls. If I'll be honest, the truffle was pretty overpowering, and I didn't get to really taste anything else. The texture of the potato puffs were perfect with a crispy exterior and fluffy mashed potato interior, but I definitely should have gone with the garlic and parsley add-on instead, or just them plain with ketchup. Poutine, however, was so good! The hot gravy was really nice for such a cold day, and the cheese curds were nicely melted. Some fries still retained a bit of crisp! Definitely recommend. Overall, I do want to come by again to try a sandwich or salad and reorder the potato puffs without the truffle essence. If I'm ever in the area!

Yelp
Grégoire, you're truly beloved for your potato puffs. Grégoire has been the it place for take-out since my classmates and I learned how to drive in high school. Still to this day, it's popular among Berkeley natives and Cal students. My companion and I chose to get take-out and picnic for nostalgia. The small take-out shop is hard to miss--blue, cute lettering, and some picnic tables out front. You order and pay on the tablet and wait for your number to be called. Or you can order online for pickup. The inside is small since that's where the kitchen operates so most customers wait outside to be called. Since it operates mostly as take-out, the service is focused on obtaining and producing orders. Okay so if you come here you need to get the Crispy Potato Puffs--enough said. It comes with nine circular potato balls that taste heavenly. Imagine warm and creamy mashed potatoes surrounded by a crisp and lightly fried exterior. We had an order of Potato Puffs and added ketchup for an additional charge. The Mayo and ketchup were distinctly flavored and seasoned--both recommended! They also sell seasonal sandwiches, salads, and sweets. Sandwiches and salads are a match made in heaven with picnics. Grégoire has you covered if you're in the Berkeley area plus you can't say no to their potato puffs! Food comes out fast and fresh, it's simple takeout with nice staff, and easy to locate off of Cedar Street in Berkeley. I'd come back just for those puffs!

Yelp
An expensive and pretty forgettable restaurant that serves a mix of proteins on a platter of cheap filler (lettuce/fries). The place is cute, and looks like a hole in the wall on Cedar St. Outdoor seating is available if you're just walking by. The poutine was okay, but the gravy was very plain and the cheese curds might as well have just been chunks of mild cheddar. The salads were very disappointing. The amount of salmon was just sad, like 1/2 of a filet. The chicken also was like someone had butterflied a single breast and just cut it in half. Leaving you with about 4oz of chicken bites and a salty mush that didn't really taste like bacon slathered over top. Oh, and the prices! Everything is $18. Add tax and you're at $50 to feed 2 people with food that comes in tiny cardboard personal pizza boxes. TL;DR: Expensive and not very good.

Yelp
I loved: Grilled Chicken Salad Potato Puffs I liked: Baked Rock Cod Salad This was just ok: Flank Steak Anaheim pepper Sandwich I'm mad as fuck that this salad is so good tbh. It's just called "Grilled Chicken Salad" and it's probably one of the best salads I've ever had and I hate salads. Phenomenal blend of flavors and the veggies had this great roast on them. Will 100% come back for this place. We just ordered online and picked it up. It's a small storefront with a couple tables out front. Deceivingly a pretty popular takeout spot known for their potato puffs.

Yelp
the cashier is SO NICE. I am 76 and being so old, the youngins usually are quite rude and disrespectful when I take so long to order however this young man was so thoughtful, patient, and kind. I have never met a person of the younger generations who is so respectful, give this cutie a raise. Foods also fire.

Yelp
Spot is cool, good lil spot that's mainly for take out, limited seating. The sandwiches were good but nothing that really wowed me. Fried chicken sandwich was light and crispy with the hot slaw, just a simply good sandwich. The potato white truffle puffs were good as well, packed a good amount of truffle flavoring but I say give this spot a try if you're curious and in the area.

Yelp
I came on a very slow Tuesday afternoon to get some fries and mainly, to try the rhubarb bread pudding. Knowing Gregoir's, I looked forward to both. Alas, this was a different experience. The fries were truly awful: mushy and with a mixed temperature, some warm, but mostly only lukewarm., some cold. None were crisp. I guess I got some leftovers from lunchtime. They tasted old--I was stunned. I never had anything bad at Gregoir's before. How on earth can you mess up fries??Fortunately, the bread pudding wasn't bad--I just hardly detected any rhubarb in it. All in all, a strange experience. Now, I truly hope this was a one-off, and I'll give it another chance on another day. This place is too expensive to deliver bad--or even mediocre--quality.

Yelp
This place is a cute little place in Berkeley! Not a super big place but off the side close to Shattuck Ave. It's not really big at all, you mostly order then go outside where there is a small seating area for a max seating of maybe 5-7 people. The service is really good they get your food out super fast and they are very nice. You can also order through the side of the building on a tablet. The poutine was very fresh and tasty! It is a little pricy (~$10) but well worth as it serves about 1-3 people. It is good but not too heavy which is whats great about it! Overall, i'd consider giving this place a visit if you are ever in the area for a good snack or light meal.

Yelp
Would give a full 5 stars if it wasn't for the employee who was giving us attitude and sass. My partner and friend both have peanut allergies so we always have to ask what oil the food is fried in or if there are any peanuts or other nuts. Reason is pretty self explanatory. We asked this woman "hey do you know what oil you use?" To which she responded with "of course I do. I work here." Irritated me but gave her benefit of the doubt. After her remark she said "oh, but you wanna know? Peanut oil." We followed up with "which sandwiches don't use peanut oil?" And she responded "anything that's not fried" with a whole bunch of sass, an eye roll, and a condescending tone. I work in food service. I know after a long shift customers can make you irritable. However, we aren't asking because we want to annoy you. It's a peanut allergy that can literally kill someone. Lol Moving on Food: We got these 2 sandwiches: "Housemade dill salmon gravlax & lemon cream cheese with fried capers & pickled onions on toast" and the "Sautéed leg of lamb with roasted garlic, marinated tomato, & waffle potato in grilled ciabatta." I would recommend both. They were very filling! This was our first time here and while it is a little on the pricier side, we would come back for it. My salmon choice was yummy with the lemon cream cheese and kept the flavor throughout all the 5 pieces they give. Wait time wasn't super long and there is seating outside the shop. Came here on a Tuesday around 3pm.

Yelp
Delicious! Detailed breakdown below: **Service, 5/5** You order on the kiosk outside so there's minimal interaction with staff, but the food is prepared fresh and comes out reasonably quickly. **Decor & cleanliness, 5/5** Very little seating outside with only two tables, so be prepared to take this on a picnic to go! The storefront is super cute and you can see right into the kitchen. **Price & portion, 5/5** Everything on the menu looks less than $18. **Presentation, 5/5** The take out boxes are the cutest I've seen! **Taste, 5/5** Wow these potato puffs are phenomenal. We got the garlic flavor and the outside was perfectly crispy and surprisingly savory while the inside was piping hot, fluffy, and creamy. The aioli it was served with was also packed full of amazing garlic flavor. Each serving comes with 9 puffs and makes it perfect to share (or hoard all for yourself honestly). **Other notes** Street parking only and no restrooms. This is more of a storefront only with no interior.

Yelp
Oooooh weeee!! This place SLAPS!! Im so glad I finally made it up to Berkeley to try this restaurant, and they did not disappoint. I ordered the pulled lamb & chipotle sandwich, potato puffs (garlic/parsley) crispy on the outside/soft on the inside, the pumpkin bread pudding, and a coconut water. Flavorful Quality in every bite. (Now, I need a nap )

Yelp
Decent spot if you're in the area. It always smells so good so we finally decided to try it. We mostly got food from the daily special menu and felt the dishes lacked seasoning. I expected a little more flavor from food that is mostly fried. The fried potato balls were a tad bitter but I think that's from the heavy use of garlic. Also there's no indoor seating but there's a few tables outside. Overall an OK spot but not one in our regular rotation.

Yelp
Fresh, delicious and good portions for the price! Kind and fast service! Ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it was enough to split with another person. A bit of a greasy meal with the potato puffs as a side so definitely considering the salad next time to have some acidity + greens. Will be back soon!

Yelp
Great food for starters! But the service was exceptional. We came on a busy Sunday afternoon. There is no particular children's menu and I asked whether they could provide a grilled cheese sandwich. At first, it didn't seem like that was possible. Then they offered a grilled provolone sandwich which was perfect. I had the corned beef, which was great. But it was the service that was the best.

Yelp
I like Gregoire so this review is only about the butternut squash sandwich. Wasn't feeling the Gorgonzola cream, wish they would've added a melty cheese. I think the large slices of squash were a bit overpowering. The squash was bland, Could've used more seasoning. Wish they breaded and fried their vegetable protein (like their fried chicken).

Yelp
Wowwwww! I can't believe I've lived in Berkeley for almost 2 years and haven't come here until today. I swung by for a late lunch after a friend recommended this place. I got a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and also the soup of the day which was smoked mushroom soup. Both were so so good!! The salad was especially unique - I loved the pickled fennel and asparagus and the coleslaw. And then let's not even begin to talk about how delicious that chicken was. Can not wait to come back and try everything else!!

Yelp
* Grilled Chicken w/ Pesto & Fresh Mozzarella - 7.5/10 (it was a solid wrap. the chicken wasn't dry & the pesto was pretty standard. yummy but nothing too special. also lost the single pic of the wrap ) * Grilled Spiced Lamb Patty w/ Oven Dried Tomato, Mint & Feta - 8/10 (the lamb was seasoned pretty well & had a great amount of flavor. we also liked how the bread was toasted to give the sandwich a nice crunch) * Crispy Potato Puffs w/ White Truffle essence - 9.2/10 (the potato balls were a bit crispy on the outside but when you bite into them, the texture inside is very soft & fluffy. the crust was lightly fried & the potatoes balls were seasoned well. it was a nice mix of the two textures. the white truffle sauce was really rich & added to the experience, it had a yummy umami flavor)
