Didn't know there was a brewy in the bronx. Nice cozy place to have a temaste of the local beer. I was on a bike ride and this was our final destination. The father and son bbq was a pop-up, once the food ran out that was it. They had good food, the brewy doesn't have food and they are open at a certain time. I would suggest some heaters if the bay door is going to be open. I will definitely be going to back to try some of there other beers. Maybe catch a game.

It's truly a gemstone of the Bronx. They place has a rustic astethic to it and the booze is to die for. The Gun Hill IPA hits the spot if you're in the mood for that type of drink. If you're more into fruity I'd recommend the Guavalicous Guava sour or their home Cider. The people are great and talkative. Makes you feel truly at home

The Bronx is home to the New York Botanical Gardens, the Bronx Zoo, and Yankees Stadium. This brewery deserves to be included in that illustrious list. One can choose mix their beer cans to go if need be. There's also local wine and spirits available. The restroom is also quite decent. Of all the the things however the beer is great. The Henny Colada is a flavorful beer in cocktail form (or cocktail in beer form). One can taste the coconut and vanilla notes on the drink. The rye saison was also great both in appearance and taste. The Fort Ticonderoga Barley Wine had sharp notes of caramel and molasses.

I never thought I could find a place to call home thank you gun hill brewery for so many good memories and good friends and always having such great bartenders and great service you will truly be missed in the gun hill area may 18th 2024 will be a day to remember 🥰

Absolutely love this local brewery. Their Void of Light is among my favorite stouts. So many great brews though. Location isn't the greatest, but the crew and brews more than make up for it. They often have some great food trucks on site as well.

Permanently closed. Don't go here. Looks like it was pretty awesome before...but now it's an Uber ride to nowhere. Got a nice look at the building supply store next door though.... adventure!!

Here’s the thing— i don’t know JACK about beers and always get in my head about what to pick and what to drink— First time here and I’m in love. Not only did they have the sampler option called “Flight” but it allowed me the option to taste all of the amazing flavors this place has to offer… then I was like lemme try this empanada real quick and the pairing was FIRE!! pull up if you haven’t already done so.

Stopped over for a few refreshing beers. Enjoyed the flight with a couple IPAs, Sour and a Pilsner but unfortunately there wasn't much of a scenery or vibe (at the time) to stick around. Highly recommend for a quick pit stop.

This place has closed since May 18,2024,after 10 years of service in the community.It is going to be missed from of our locals and the Steady Cannon Club members.

Unassuming brewery in a decommissioned garage - nice folks and board games available. Beers across the board had a bitter profile, even if the style and description didn't really fit that. Cool spot, but there are better pure beer spots around.

Gun Hill is a cool little micro-brewery in the Bronx, pretty deep if you're coming from the city but super accessible to visitors from upstate. Its name is shared with nearby Gun Hill Road, itself named for a hill from which American colonists fired a cannon at British soldiers in January 1777; that's a pretty badass association if you ask me! I formulated an action plan, and, on a recent Saturday just past noon, My girlfriend and I made our way to what is touted as the first (legal) brewery to operate in the Bronx since the 1960s. The space is in a residential-industrial neighborhood with lots of auto repair shops nearby. If you're getting your vehicle serviced, kill the time with a cold pint! I started off with something from Vosburgh Brewing in Elizaville, Columbia County, before turning to a flight of exclusive Gun Hill selections. I was most impressed with their barrel aged offerings and their pilsner and lager selection. The quince sour was maybe a little flat, but an honest effort. As if my luck couldn't get any better, Bodega Truck just happened to be posted up outside. I acquired a chopped cheese hero to accompany my beverages, and it developed into a pleasant afternoon. It was fun sampling beers and getting to see how the brewery serves as a community gathering spot.

My friends and I went back in warmer weather and I'm happy to have found a place nearby that's a perfect hang out spot. Their beers are delicious and they have so many options that you'll always find one that you like. The flavors are unique and I particularly love their sour beers. The staff is incredibly nice and most customers will sit at the bar and chat with one other. I would suggest getting food before coming as the food options are a few, which is completely fine because the beers are the highlight. The area isn't the greatest in terms close food options either. We ordered the empanadas that are sometimes avaliable. Definitely a good pairing with the beers. The place is great in the summer and is open aired. We went during a comedy night and everyone was hilarious and interactive. It's definitely a staple for summer days and good drinks. Glad to have a place like this close by in the Bronx.

A great brewery with a large selection of beer and large space. Went earlier in the day so the food truck wasn't there yet.

Came back recently and so happy I did. The staff is very chill and friendly. The place was well sanitized and everyone was socially distant. I came to get some beers to go but I was also able to sit down and drink a cold one. I always love trying new beers. This brewery is perfect for that. One of my favorite beers not on can is finger laking good! I got 2 growlers. I also enjoyed their new beers wide open, wet azz hops , black is beautiful & so many others I can't wait to see what others beers they continue to supply.

Okay, so I love this place! Called about 2 weeks before my event to make sure the could hold 2 tables for us to surprise my boyfriend with a group of friends for his birthday and they delivered! They allowed us to bring balloons, order pizza and put on some dope old school hip hop for us. The beer was also really delicious and we already can't wait to go back! Shout out to Kieran for dealing with my many emails and also Edgar for holding down the bar and being super attentive with us!

Fresh beer is better.Otherwise great service and good convo in a fun enviroment, i was so close to operations. I would have asked to operate the forklift, but that plus great beer is the fun.

This a a great neighborhood brewery to stop at if you are ever in the Bronx. The staff is always friendly and the beers are always cold. The beers are reasonably priced and I like that they keep a flagship beer but are constantly brewing different IPAs, lagers, stouts. They have bar seating available and long tables for groups. There is outdoor seating as well. I'm addition to beer they offer cider from Brooklyn Cider house, and wine from Millbrook winery. The only thing I wish was that there was food. Sometimes there is empanadas or food trucks but not all the time. Regardless this is a great spot, don't forget your beer Togo!

I'd be lying if I hadn't spent the last month deliberately avoiding the writing of this review. Yeah, sometimes I'm just busy (plus I like to write a lot, sorry), but when it comes to beer, usually the words just flow, like suds from a tap. For Gun Hill Brewing Company, I thought this would be the case, yet instead I find myself unsure about what to say. Let's not get overly dramatic here. Gun Hill is still an easy 4 star brewery (I'll get into specifics in a sec). Though what had me unsure was that Gun Hill should probably be a 5 star spot, but I wouldn't say it's entirely there...yet. It's not like they're new. I first went to GH back in 2016, a little before my Yelping days. That experience was an easy 5. Flash forward to early February and things shifted slightly. Well, perhaps they didn't. Perhaps my taste buds have just changed/grown/become more complex. That's a (mostly) positive check mark in Gun Hill's book as they dabble in a nice variety of beer styles, albeit with a varying degree of success. That vary is important and shows why things went from 5 to 4, quickly. Let's run through em: Antigua Moon: A super smooth and subtle IPA with lots of fruity kick from the orange and coconut flavors while still having a tiny bite of hoppy-ness. Probably my favorite brew of the afternoon. Salute 2 Galaxy: A triple dry-hopped IPA that leaves your mouth with that smooth and bitter coating you (hopefully) love while delivering an inconspicuously high ABV (9.3%) at the same time. Ginger Snap: A solid winter warmer beer with just the right amount of ginger taste. Maybe the "cookie flavors" were there too, but either way it was enjoyable. Maple Bacon Void of Light: Listen, Void of Light is a robust stout that is hard to forget (my favorite from back in 16' and still a winner today), but I can't say the maple or the bacon really did much other than add in smokiness. I like smokiness, but it wasn't needed to enhance an already awesome brew. Friendship Rings: A sour smoothie IPA that sounded better than it tasted. I'm not sure if the sour/bitter combination hit correctly on the palate. That, or the smokiness from the previous beer completely altered my tastebuds. Hmm... S'more Smiles: Here's where things really went off the rails, where Gun Hill backfired, if you will. A brown ale with the three main components of a s'mores? Awesome! Not really. None of the flavors stood out and the thing was more bitter or (dare I say) flat than anything else. Not what I expected. Okay, maybe if you take out the last two (and a half) beers, I might've been more inclined to cough up a fifth star, but I can't deny that they weren't up to par with what I expected. Overall, Gun Hill Brewing Company is still an awesome beer spot and probably near my favorite of the northern New York borough. I don't get up here often (hence the four year hiatus), but they do canning for quite a few of their beers and occasionally you can find them on tap. I'll need to really give them their due diligence in these ways so that my next trip up to Gun Hill (hopefully not in another four years!) can earn the final star it probably deserves.

They're open for business, with some great brews for pick up. I came here after a run to try out some of their beers. My girlfriend and I went halvsies on three packs, Thirsty Thurzdays, Hibis Kiss and Mr. Stoutee. Most of the beers are 4 bucks each and you can save two bucks by getting a 4-pack for $14. My fave out of our lot, was the Hibis Kiss, which is sour but refreshing. I love everything hibiscus so I don't mind the tartness of it. I'm going back this week for more brews. Support local businesses!

Update to my original review. Still one of my favorite spots with their large selection of brews and now more recently they have added cider, wines, bourbons

I went a Sunday night , in winter , nice atmosphere,beer delicious. No Food , a little bit disappointed.

Let me start this review with prefacing how much I love the beers they make. I've been a huge Void of Light stout lover years, attended their Void of Light Coconut launch in collaboration with Black Tap and thoroughly enjoy their Friendzone Tiramisu Blonde and their Pumpkin beer...and their cherry beer...okay, you get the idea. Well, last week I travelled out here to finally visit their brewery. There was an ice cream social event going on and I've mixed ice cream and beer before - I mean, it sounds weird AF but it can sometimes really work. This wasn't one of those times for me. Ice cream was delish and so was the beer...just not together. After about 2 small sips I realized that Void of Light Coconut and vanilla ice cream with whipped cream was a no-no. I asked my bartender if I could order a regular, ice cream-less beer and he was like, "sure". Considering I was hoping to exchange it for my completely full ice cream I was happy - but also willing to pay for it. He charged me for the new beer, took away my already paid for bad decision ice cream beer and later on gave my friend a free beer and said, "her beer is on the house since you didn't like your ice cream beer". Okay, let's try to make sense of this...friend that I brought with me loved her ice cream beer. She drank all of it to pretty much the last drop. She got a free beer in honor of me not liking mine and having paid for 2 beers, one of which I returned? Yeah, okay. Happy for my the friend I brought with me but I felt like from a customer service perspective, my negative experience (which I was really nice about since it was no ones fault but my own) and my having spent more there, I could have used one as well. As the night progressed I just never felt like the staff there was ever really warm or friendly, except to a man and woman there who worked for a craft brewery upstate and were clearly friends with one of the bartenders... I would rate my experience here 2.5 stars but Yelp doesn't allow halfsies on ratings so I'll bump it up to 3 for the good beers, really amazing music (lots of 90s alternative/rock) and ambiance. Considering the commute to get here tho I'd be okay just enjoying their beers somewhere else with better customer service and cooler bartenders.

Let me start off my saying the most important thing you should read in my review: THE BEER IS DELICIOUS! Void of light is a winner!! So was the island, and watermelon ale. Also love that you can order food to here or bring your own. Now...we came on a hot day..87 degrees outside....the ceiling fans were off...but there were two larger industrial fans, but you need to sit strategically because they face weird positions. It was hooootttt... But here's the worst part: right out side of the brewery this is a huge, sweaty, leaking, overfilled, SMELLY garbage dump container. The smell gets into the warehouse, and especially on a HOT day.... it was BAD. Every time a car passed by, we got a huge whiff of that smell. That ruined it for me. It was unbearable. Also had to watch where I walked when going outside because he garbage was leaking...UGH. Cmon on GHB!

Finally got to visit Gun Hill taproom in person, have had their beers in the past at restaurants. Great weather and got in before our dinner elsewhere, so perfect time to visit. Got a couple of rounds and then head out after to get dinner. What do I think are notable things about our Gun Hill visit? Let's list em out (pros and cons) PRO: they have a saison there that my wife liked. It wasn't on tap but they at least had it canned and pourable there. PRO: they do flights if you want. I got 4 diff beers to try. PRO: Oktoberfest beer was pretty good. Pilsner, Run it back, and the snickerdoodle beer, not so much. CON: that snickerdoodle beer. I dunno, just sweet and clawing, not really my thing. Also the pilsner was pretty generic and the run it back was just kind of like the pilsner. CON: ok the real big con. They are doing this covid segregation. Mind you, this is an open floor plan garage space with a huge open garage door front entrance. The "seating" is big barrels as tables with a few tall stools around each one. My wife and son sat at a barrel like 3 feet "inside" the garage door opening and they made us move to another barrel that was a few feet outside. CON: About that "outdoor" seating barrel. RIGHT outside the venue, they had 3 disgusting putrid smelling garbage dumpsters. Like literally in front of the main entrance. It was the nastiest thing ever, pooling smelly water, trying to sit there and have a beer. Totally ruins the vibe. CON: So I go to get a second round and close the tab. I tell the bartender "my wife liked that saison, so she'll have another one of those. For me, I'm going to go with that Run it back lager". OK fine. So he pours hers, runs the tab, and then i sign and wait. He comes back in a minute looking confused. I'm like where's the other beer, the run it back"? He kind of is like "oh yeah". Goes to pour it, and rings me up for it. So I had to close my tab twice. It's just odd and annoying. I feel like the peeps might just be stoned or on CBD there? Who knows.

We stopped here while in town and we are so happy we made time for this stop. We tried four beers and all were excellent! We had the mosaic, two sours, and another IPA. Jeff was the bartender and he was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient - and also patient in making recommendations and giving tastes since it was our first time there. The brewery itself was basic and comfortable *except* there was no a/c or fans...I might not have chosen a 98 degrees day to visit if I knew that lol the decor is classic and it appears they have lots of cool local events. They had a vending machine with charcuterie types of food and wings for sale. The main attraction is the damn good beer though and it doesn't disappoint :)

Of course, I have to end my day in the Bronx by visiting a brewery. One of the yelpers mentioned a groupon deal, so I purchased a Beer Package for Two for $16, and that came with 4 drinks and one empty growler. I thought that was a good deal. I was welcomed by Andrew at the bar who recommended some good non-IPA beers to me. I started with Kentucky Common and Ramparts Rye. KYC was a pretty good Sour Brown Ale. After that, I got two more drinks which were GH Gold and Citrea. I recommend these last two. GH Gold went down very easy. Citrea was a great DIPA. You can also get some yummy empanadas, which are delivered fresh daily, and pretzels. GH has some new beers coming out this May, so stop by and check it out.

I have been wanting to come up here for at least the past 2 years. Finally dragged myself to the Gun Hill after numerous train transfers, delays, weekend disturbances, etc. It was worth it. I had a free drink coupon lingering in my wallet and knew a friend that lives pretty much ten blocks away. The space is huuuuuuge. Makes a great place to have a small party or to bring in food since they only sell snacks like empanadas and warm pretzels. Beer is about $6-7 a glass. Beer flights you can mix whatever 6 you want together for $15. Kind of a drag because seeing old reviews from only a year ago it was priced at $9. Holy inflation. Things I sampled or tasted: Thunderdog Stout (5.9% abv) - Solid milk stout. The stouts from this place are seriously good and make me think that they should stick to what they excel at. More stouts and dark beers, please. 21 Guns Red Imperial Ale (9.5% abv) - You taste more malt and toffee and maybe a bit of toast than hops. Really delicious. Red Hessian (3.8%) - A sour Berliner Weisse beer. Real sour tart cherry. This would be great in the summer or with more alcohol. But I prefer their other cherry beer that's more like a lager than this one. Void of Light (7.9% abv) - Foreign stout that tastes like a sweet russian imperial. Which I like. One of Gunhill's best beers in my opinion. Have had this in numerous other bars before. Sun Wizard by King's County Brewers Collective (7.2%) - A golden Saisson, very buttery. I could session this with a loaf of bread. This was one of three guest tap beers and it was pretty fantastic. Haka (4.5%) - An Indian Pale Ale Lager. It was pretty bland. Nothing to write home about but a solid table beer. Live from Jacobi (7.4%) - A West coast IPA, which I normally like these but holy hell was this bad. The worst of the bunch. It's like bottled up hops on hops on hops but in the bad funky kind of way. Send this back to Jacobi. Mosaic Soft Serve (3%) - Micro Milk IPA, which I've never heard of before in my life and still am not entirely sure what it means other than that this has a low enough abv that I joked that the children in the bar could probably drink this and be fine. Kidding. Not kidding. It's not what you think it is. It's not brown. Don't let the milk part deceive you. To describe it perfectly it tastes like an ipa on the tip of your tongue but then you hit zero hops. So why not just drink light beer you ask? I have no idea. Brew masters wanted to confuse you and be tricky like that. Not my favorite brewery I've been to. Partly because of the commute but definitely a fun adventure.

Came here for a chug and run for Lung Cancer Awareness. I had the Barb's Beer, a beer named after a marathoner who passed away from non-smokers lung cancer. The beer was created by her family in collaboration with the brewery and all profits go to lung cancer research. It was a good tasting beer, an ale that was not too hoppy. I then had the Get Thai'd lager, which had interesting notes of lemongrass. I enjoyed this one a lot. It was nice and light and I enjoyed the different notes it had. Staff was nice and I would definitely come back. There's a bar with seating and community-style tables as well.

Good experience overall but some things can be improved so it's more 3.5 stars for me. I'd purchase the beer but probably wouldn't rush back to the tasting room unless there was a special event going on (I saw pictures of a band playing and Oktoberfest mugs). Food- They have pretzels and empanadas for snacks. I tried cheeseburger and chicken & cheese empanadas and they were surprisingly tasty. Beer & Service- We did beer flights where you pick 6 beers in total. Gun Hill IPA was awesome and I would love to get more of this brew in the future. The stouts were flavorful. Overall the beers were very good so I'd recommend giving them a go. The staff was friendly as well. Atmosphere- Downside is that it was a bit dark and depressing for my taste. Could use more light and better decor & good cleaning up. I also didn't see any games in the brewery that appear on Yelp pictures (uno and jenga) so I either missed them or the guests bring their own.

I'm torn on Gun Hill Brewing Company. The place itself was inviting and the people were friendly. Their Pomegranate Ale was also one of the best flavored beers that I've had. However, I did not care for the IPAs. I hate to say it, but they had a taste that set them off to me. I wasn't sure that the IPA I wound up getting really did, but my wife confirmed it. I'd probably stick to their ales in the future.

My first time at this Laconia Ave location and I'm here because I was just randomly in the area. I'm pretty sure they're affiliated with the one on 3rd ave in the Bronx. Currently 3:30pm on a Saturday. The space is inviting And Dog friendly. Decent amount of customers at the bar and one pooch. I can tell this place is fun on spring/summer days. Will have to follow up this review with another visit Bc I would love to take an in-depth tour, possibly try the food. Current 4 rating Bc I'm a fan of the Gun Hill Brand and beers. Def want to come back for the full brewery experience. My go to is the Gun hill IPA. It's crisp dosnt have as strong an after taste for me.

What a great find in the Bronx. After a day walking around Arthur Avenue my partner and I wanted to chill out with some beers so I did a quick Yelp search in the area. Gun Hill Brewing came up (with positive reviews) so we had to go check it out. We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday night and they were hosting an art event with live music and a huge crowd. Gun Hill is a large space with huge garage doors in the front (I am sure this is awesome in the summertime with great weather). There is plenty of seating and an amazing beer selection. Honestly their porter was probably one of the best ones I've ever tried, good thing they sells cans to go! Looking at their website, Gun Hill has done some cool collabs (Ivan Ramen, the Hamilton cast!!) Bartender was quick, friendly, and able to give some great suggestions. All the beers I tried on-site and brought home were incredible. Gun Hill is doing some great styles that you're not finding at the other spots in the area. Worth the trip up to the Bronx to try out this spot, grab some cans or even get a growler filled to go! cheers.

Very chill spot, not sure if the guys up front were the owners but very friendly people. Very clean from the time I exit my car to the time I left they were sanitizing everything. From the pen that I used to the table I signed on. If you want to grab a cold one, make sure to visit this location. Well with it!

Yay local craft beer in da Bronx! It's a bit of a hike to get up here but if you're willing to make the journey you will be well rewarded with some terrific tasty brews. Very low key and unpretentious spot. Nice owner and bartenders that will tell you all about their beers, history, and future brews coming up. Small place that was pretty empty when we arrived late in the afternoon on a chilly day. Mostly locals that seemed to come by at times. Nice easy going spot to enjoy a few beers at picnic tables set up on the concrete floor or at the bar. You can look at and walk over to the brewing vats that house their brewing process. As it was a warehouse at one time the front opens up as a large garage door and must be great during warm sunny days. Will definitely make a trip back to check it out during the summer. After my first taste I thought "damn delicious beer"! Loving the Oatmeal Stout! The cherry beer was also a hit. Pretty much every beer I tasted here was solid. They have done a great job and I hope to revisit again soon to check out some new brews they might have on tap. For munchies they offer a few items such as hot pretzels. Perfect with a cold brew. Great prices too- $5 a pint and $9 flights which are served up in pretty sizeable glasses. Very easy to catch a craft beer buzz at Gun Hill!

Bronx is makin' some good stuff :) A colonial inspired logo, wood accents and friendly Bronx locals invite a homey feel to this brewery! THEY HAVE EMPANADAS :0 I tried a Gun Hill IPA few years back and assumed this brewery didn't make good beer. but their other beer wasn't bad! DON'T JUDGE A BREWERY BY THEIR FLAGSHIP PEOPLE. Lesson learned Live from Jacobi IPA was my fav, Void of Light Stout was good too :D 21 GUNS Red/Amber Ales like Killians and Long Ireland Celtic are very malty caramel-ly and low in ABV, which is great for easy drinking. But Gun Hill made an IMPERIAL Red called 21 Guns; imperial~ wayyy more alcohol, some of you are like, "well, what's the problem.. LOL" be careful, it's a little acerbic and strong BAMM- defn knocked my socks off had to walk home barefoot in my car. Bring extra socks. Lesson learned. Friendly ppl & good beer :) Go Gunhill!

The first time I came here was for a nerdy Nintendo gamer meetup. We set a hotspot. Played MarioKart and Monster Hunter. And enjoyed flights of IPA, Stout, Pilsner, Gold, and some other goodies. The beers were so smooth. The drinking was so effortless. That buying more wasn't an afterthought. We sat at the rustic communal tables for hours. Until we got hungry. Although they have pretzels and empanadas, which hit the spot, there is a diner right down the street. And a KFC. There has been many trips there since. The Gun Hill IPA is my favorite. But my favorite has competition. It is to the point now where I drink my pints there. Get a few to go cans of the brew I am not drinking there. Maybe a growler. And some merchandise for birthday/holiday presents. Their snapback hats are sexy! The staff is personable. Great bar conversations. Some small talk. Some service industry. That place just attracts really great folk. The positive energy there will have you stay for a drink. The product will keep ya there.

I got invited to come here from a college friend and am so glad I came out. This hidden gem in the Bronx is awesome if you are into beer, old school hip hop, and amazing food. I never had a flight and always wanted one so I finally got one and it did not disappoint at all. I will say that this place can get crowded so get there early. They also have food from different places in which the day we went was good ole bbq. The food was greatly paired with the beer. They also serve wine but guys try the beer please. I also like that they take cards because some places let me down when it's cash only :(. The bartender was great with the recommendations so don't be overwhelmed if you are a newbie to this. I will be coming back even though I live all the way in Brooklyn. My friend who went, lives closer and says it's a great spot and they alternate the flavors. Another plus is you can buy some of the cans and the prices are crazy affordable. Don't roll with a big group as it is not huge but def stop by when you have a chance, even if you don't live nearby like me lol.

I've visited many times since my job is nearby and I've had a pleasant experience every time. Huge space, friendly staff, games available, great beers, and some food and liquor options as well. I've also held staff parties in the space and they were super accommodating. We were able to order outside food from their vendors and they saved a big space for us. Highly recommend!

Gun Hill Brewing Company is very much worth the trip into the Bronx. It's a 10 minute walk from both the 2 (Burke) and the 5 (Gun Hill), but on a cold day when you want some good beer...It's worth the trip. I had found out about this place through a newsletter I subscribe to and decided we had to check it out. The tasting room hours vary but their Twitter and FB accounts keep you in the know. We got there around 4PM and it was somewhat empty when we arrived but by 5PM it was a full bar. The outside and the inside both look like a warehouse. The beer is brewed right behind the tasting room. The bar, while small, still holds plenty of people and has 2 TVs showing sports. There are also a few picnic tables scattered around, for additional seating. We decided to start with the oatmeal stout and then order a flight. For $5, I received a pint of some of the most delicious oatmeal stout I have ever tasted. It was smooth, creamy, and didn't leave a bitter aftertaste. Out of the flight, the cherry beer was my second favorite. I usually dislike fruity beers but this was subtle and tasted similar to a spritzer of sorts (minus the bubbles). That was the second pint I ordered. Did I mention a flight only costs $9?! This is a great place to kick back and relax with friends. The beers are fantastic and tasty, the staff is beyond friendly, and the place is clean (including the restroom). I will definitely be coming here again and again. I especially can't wait to visit again in the summer months, when they keep the garage door open. Btw, the pretzels are delicious and cheap.

I found a winner, literally and figuratively. I sampled six beers. Void of Light had just taken GABF '14 gold in foreign export stout (I took a growler with me). The other five were all capable or a good deal better than that. Sitting in a primarily Jamaican neighborhood, the space is an all-in-one shop with an open tasting room and brewing floor area. They had a couple TVs and a sound system, with picnic benches set up and a nice sampling bar, replete with some nice custom tap handles and the requisite logo hoodies for sale. Kieran told me about their emphasis on stouts, their capacity (1500-2000 barrels this year, 2-3k next year, and canning on the horizon), and about their DIPA brewing now...just to show others they can do it. The emphasis remains stouts, but they have chops across a variety of styles. Their "make our beers approachable" mentality for the wares is evident with their venue and their future distribution plans. For beers? Get it in cans, get it into NYC bars, and see where it goes from there. For their venue, the door is swung wide open, a warmth and community feel emits from within, and a sense of pride in the Bronx and the U.S. is felt. Try these guys out, stat...they're very good and it's plain to see they're trending up.

My wife and I are really passionate about craft beers, we enjoy going to different breweries and trying new beers. When we heard about this place we were initially excited since we're Bronx natives and not too many craft beer spots in the Bronx. We came here last week for the first time, we brung some family members with us who were visiting from out of state. We were excited to try new beers as we all have a passion for beers. (We had a party of 4) The beers were good, however our experience here was unpleasant to say the least. The bartender that was working (didn't get a chance to get her name) was rude and egregious. We were indecisive about what beer we were going to have (since it was our first time here) and she gave us an ugly look, aside from that she seem to be rushing us not sure why, aside from a few other people being there the place wasn't packed at all. We were the only ones ordering. We've been to many breweries and this by far has been the WORST! Aside from the DISGUSTING customer service we received, this place has a BAD smell, they leave the trash out for who knows how long and to top it all off they do not have Air Conditioning. DEFINITELY WOULD NOT COME BACK!!!!

I love to stop by this place when i'm in the Bronx. Its one of those places that you go to sit talk a bit drink and then leave. I really like how its just an open entrance like a garage door its pretty Wierd. but in a good way. :) ounce u go inside they have a few benches/tables, but I always go straight to the bar. I like the theme of the bar, style looks really old fashion. I also like that they have an old school pop corn machine. Which I found pretty cool. What i most like about this place is how the bartender treats me or any one besides me. Great guy behind that counter. Every time I go there I tell him I want to try something new which he's totally cool with giving me a shot of what the beer would taste like before I end up buying it. This is one of those places that if you are driving near that area passing by or even looking for parking you cant miss it. The building is shaped in a big square. Plus the garage door is always open. I would highly recommend any one in the area to try them out. Or if you in the Bronx and looking for a nice bar to stop by this is definitely the place.

Found this place through a great Groupon deal, and I'm glad I did! When you walk in, you can tell that it's a place the locals frequent often. Went in on an early Saturday afternoon, and the place was really quiet. Our Groupon came with a shared flight, 2 empanadas and a growler (empty) to take home. The beers were more similar in taste than you'd think, but they were all good! The empanadas were even better, especially the beef and cheese. Definitely stop by if you're ever in the area, it's a great way to support local, growing businesses and to explore the city!

It may be out in the Bronx, but I think l found more beers I like at Gun Hill than at Brooklyn Brewery. Sunday's seem to be a slow day, with only about 7 other people in the brewery with us. But on the bright side you're not wrestling with others to refill your beer or find a table to sit. Food choices nearby are limited, but there are options if you need to order! In the back you'll find potato chips and games to play as you drink your beer. Don't be afraid to bring your own games and make a day of it!

Came here on a Friday night after work with a big group. It's a bit of a hidden gem! Their beers are delicious and the ambience makes you feel like you're in a big garage/warehouse, which is exactly how a brewery should feel. Will definitely be back.

We visited here this summer and really enjoyed it. Even early on a weekday they had a good, diverse crowd and a fine beer selection. We also got a couple of the locally made pretzels which were very tasty. Great, no-frills brewery and taproom.

I've been on a brewery binge lately and so far this is in the bottom of my list. First off customer service sucks! It took 30 min to order a drink! When i complained to the young lady who finally took my order she said she wasn't supposed to be working tonight. Anyhow the beer is ok, only two bathrooms and the ambiance is dark. I will not be going back. Queens and Brooklyn have way better professionally staffed and better looking taprooms with good beer.

Living in the Bx has opened my horizons to new and incredible establishments in this borough. This is one of those locations. A bar held in a garage setting of a brewery is the perfect low key spot for a laid-back weekend activity. For only $5 you can try various craft beers. There was also food being sold. According to my bf there was a food truck last time he visited, therefore it's save to say that they team up with vendors to provide the crowd yummy food. There was a DJ that played awesome beat and even had the crowd dancing. (Yes, there is a small open space for fellow dancers). I'd say that if I were to make a slight modification to this place, it'd be the location of the speakers. The speaker was directly in front of the benches making it extremely hard to hold a conversation with people sitting right across from me. Or maybe lower down the volume? Either or, I'd say keep the music but also take into account that people are trying to socialize. Overall, great place! look forward to visiting soon.

I'm always passing by this place because it's two minutes from my house. Today I decided to go and support my local brewary. I think there's a dozen of different beers, IPA's. I ordered the gun hill gold, nice and smooth really hit the spot and had a side of really hot pretzels with extra mustard. Yummy! They also had beef and vegetable patties, and stuff you can order from the local diner, mexican restaurant, etc.. I really liked this place wish I could have came here sooner. I know it will be here for a while, because this is how we do it in da Bronx!!!!

We live not too far from here and just discovered this place! Loved the decor and the wide open space. The bartender was fun and friendly. Beers were great! Had the Pomegranate Ale and the Main Squeeze Grisette. Both were light and crisp and refreshing. The pomegranate was my favorite it had a great taste. My boyfriend has the Velvet Royals Milk Stout and the E Pluribus 7 D ipa. I'm not a fan of darker beers but they were actually good. Enjoyed our Sunday here! Definitely recommend and will be coming back !

My bf and I were in the area and decided to check Gun Hill Brewing out, especially after noticing the groupon, which by the way has confusing terminology. Initially, it was refused to be honored to our expectations by the bartender on shift when we arrived.It's not even worth buying with the way it's written now (one sampler for two people-- please tell me how that's logical w/ the $14 price), so we opted out and got two regular flights for $9 each instead. All the beers were nice and light. I'm not typically a fan of stouts but this was really well balanced and I didn't mind it at all. Strong preference for the Pom Wheat- lightly flavored but really crisp and enjoyable. We also got a cheese pretzel which wasn't bad at all for $3. They even offer free bags of chips!! How can you complain about that. They have less tables and a lot more standing room in what's essentially a warehouse, but this definitely adds to the cool and relaxing atmosphere. It wasn't too crowded for a Saturday afternoon, but there seemed to be a lot of local walk-ins and I know I would be one of them if I was closer. When we were ready to leave and pay, I asked a new bartender about the explanation for their groupon deal-- guess we weren't the only ones confused and he actually ended up honoring it for us! Love that good service.

This is simply the best brewery around (except maybe Newburgh Brewing - also great). The bartender Lex is super friendly and helpful. The milk stout was smooth and delicious. Cherry Gold was also amazing - actually tasted like dried cherries in beer, not like that Sam Adams cherry wheat cough syrup crap. All the regular offerings are great. This place is a real gem.

This is by far the best local brewery in the Bronx (in fact, in all of NYC as well). A no frills, "we're a real brewery with a taproom" kind of place, unlike their tavern in the South Bronx which caters to a more yuppie crowd. On some days when the boil is on full swing, expect to leave with your clothes smelling like malt and hops. If you love beer, that should be a very good thing! The crowd is very diverse, with the brewery catering as much to locals as to visitors from other boroughs. A great place to meet people and make friends! No waiter service, just a bar and a few large tables, so you can bring 2 or 20 people with no problem. They have some snacks (locally made empanadas, pretzels, cheese curds, etc.). However, due to the limited selection of food, they also have takeout menus for local eateries available. And finally, the most important part... the beer! They have a fantastic, rotating selection of beers in all styles. This place is no Bronx Brewery ("we only do pale ales because we're afraid to step out of our comfort zone"). The Void of Light is an absolute classic, and don't even get me started on the bourbon barrel aged version... Amazing pale ales, golden ales, stouts, sours, saisons, smash ales, they even brew a Kentucky Common! Additionally, they always have a healthy amount of collaboration beers and at least one cider. If you browse their fridge, mixed in with the cans of their popular beers and some mediocre NY state table wine, you can find gems like Freeman's Farmhouse Saison (champagne bottle-conditioned and cellared for 6+ months) for 11 bucks! I hope this trend keeps up, because we residents of northern Bronx really appreciate having a great local brewery!
