Cuban dishes, mojitos, and outdoor cabanas create a tropical escape.
"Nothing says “happy birthday” like a round of mojitos under your own, personal thatched cabana with a dozen of your closest friends. And there’s no better place to make that dream into a reality than at Habana, a Cuban restaurant on South Congress. Order some caramelized maduros for the table, grab a round of habanatinis, and grab one of the best Cuban sandwiches in town. There’s even a cigar menu if you really want to immerse yourself in the experience." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion
"Tucked beneath a canopy of tropical greenery, this nearly 25-year-old restaurant blends Cuban comfort food with a casual, breezy charm. The space includes a shady patio, thatch-roof cabanas, and plenty of cold mojitos. The lechon asado and ropa vieja keep regulars coming back, along with pressed Cubanos and garlicky yuca frita. Bonus: You can even order cigars to smoke in a cabana out back. There’s also a late-night menu that’s available until midnight on the weekends." - Darcie Duttweiler
"The Deal: $7 cocktails, $1-2 off small bites Habana, a Cuban restaurant near St. Edward’s, offers one of the best Happy Hour deals on South Congress. On weekdays from 3-6pm they knock the price down on most of their cocktails to $7—including their signature mango-infused habanatini and more classic mojitos—plus a few dollars off beer and wine. There’s also a handful of bites that get the value-price treatment, like sliders and empanadas, but you’ll still have to pay full price for their excellent Cuban sandwich." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion
"The Sandwich Cubano at Habana—near South Congress and Oltorf—is a hearty one, packed with enough slow-roasted pork to make yourself a second sandwich or some kind of tiny meat-based snowman. There’s also a generous amount of swiss cheese, which we especially liked as it began to ooze through all the crevices left open from the Tetris-like stacking of chunky roast pork, pickles, and ham. It’s all sandwiched between pressed Cuban bread that adds yet another layer of texture to a great sandwich. The maduros here are also excellent—make sure to throw in an order (or two, or three). "Hidden from South Congress by thatched roofs and palm leaves, Habana feels like a secret, tucked-away piece of the Caribbean. The restaurant makes some solid Cuban and Caribbean food—including one of our favorite Cuban sandwiches in town—as well as great tropic-inspired cocktails like mojitos and margaritas. The patio is full of cabanas that are perfect for feeling like you’re on vacation, and there’s even a cigar menu if you want to get fully immersed in the Cuban daydream.
