Casual hawker stall preparing Singaporean Hainanese poached and roasted chicken, with rice.
"Urban Hawker Market is a collection of Singapore-style food stalls just east of Times Square that is a tourist attraction onto itself. Best of all, perhaps, is Hainan Jones, which sells mildly spiced Hainanese chicken from far southern China in a set meal with rice, vegetables, dipping sauces, and an excellent cup of chicken broth." - Robert Sietsema, Melissa McCart
"Hainan Jones made us food hall lovers. The Singaporean spot got its start at Midtown’s Urban Hawker making Hainanese chicken rice, and just like at its original location, we like the classic poached chicken set at this DeKalb Market Hall corner stall the best. The meat is tender and soft, and the skin is leathery, smooth, and on the brink of melting in your mouth. But our favorite part of the plate is really the gingery rice cooked in chicken broth—you can get it as a side for $3, in case you finish your Trader Joe’s run and need a little snack. Food Rundown Signature Poached Chicken Rice Set An exceedingly comforting and gentle plate of food, which comes with a little bit of everything. Sliced poached chicken, gingery rice, chinese broccoli with oyster sauce and fried shallots, and a cup of simple cabbage soup. The makings of a beautiful lunch. Signature Roasted Chicken Rice Set We prefer the poached chicken, but if you come here with someone, you should try the roast chicken, too. The golden-brown skin is blistered, and the meat is just a touch smoky." - Willa Moore
"Hainan Jones, the Singaporean spot inside Midtown’s Urban Hawker, makes some of our favorite chicken rice in New York, full stop. Now, you don’t have to go to Midtown for it—they’ve got a second location within Dekalb Market Hall, a subterranean food hall in Downtown Brooklyn." - will hartman

"Hainan Jones is officially our favorite vendor at Urban Hawker, the Singapore-style food court on 50th. You can get your chicken roasted or fried, but we prefer the classic poached version. The uber gingery rice and broth it comes with are flavorful on their own, but the spicy chili and sweet sesame soy help the dish realize its full potential. Lines can get long, but you have plenty of other options in the building if you don’t have time to wait. Keep in mind, If you wanted to go after a show, it closes by 7:30pm.
