Handies Douzo - Review - Montrose - Houston - The Infatuation

"The boys behind the popular sushi spots Kokoro and Aiko move into Montrose with another location of Handies Douzo. There is sushi bar seating similar to the Heights’ location, as well a menu of nigiri, sashimi, and hand rolls." - Chelsea Thomas

I have heard people rave about this place for a while, and was very excited when I was invited to a lunch today. Very cool vibe. Great music playing. The service was fantastic. Very laid back friendly counter service. We started with crudo, and the scallops with oranges and mint were fantastic. After that I did the 4 roll option and loved every one. The server suggested caviar on one and it was really nice. I will be back here a zillion times.

Handies is definitely one of my favorite hand roll sushi spots in Houston. Their service is prompt and they bring out each dish at a good pace so that you have time to appreciate each order fresh. The tuna is good quality and very buttery. My favorites were the BCG sake hand roll, spicy tuna handroll, negitoro, and bluefin chutoro sashimi. The kanpachi crudo was also fantastic. I’d recommend getting a 3 or 4 handroll set per person and trying a couple other options. Handrolls are pretty filling! Also love the little ducklings all over the place

Came for the hand rolls but were wowed by the crudo! This location serves quality food in a chill atmosphere. We expected to spend around ~$100 but we were able to get a taste of almost each part of the menu and try some sake for $60 for two people. It’s a smaller location so be sure to make a reservation or be prepared to wait ~20-40 min for a seat. This is best for a couple/pair since the the whole of the restaurant seating is around a big U shaped table.

I was sitting down eating with my friend, and everything was going great. The service was really good, our server in the green shirt made sure everything came out on time, and as always, the food was amazing. I really enjoyed the Crudo. While I was eating, I overheard our server politely ask what seemed to be the manager (the guy with the man bun) if he could go outside to return an umbrella a customer that was sitting on our left had left behind. To my surprise, the manager responded by telling him something along the lines of “You have no common sense” in front of everyone. He then took the umbrella and went outside. I was both shocked not just by the comment itself, but by how loudly it was said, with no regard for the customers sitting nearby. The whole interaction felt unnecessary, unprofessional, and honestly uncomfortable to witness. It was upsetting to witness someone being talked to like that, especially when they were just trying to do the right thing. If this is how the staff is spoken to in front of guests, it really makes you wonder what the environment is like behind the scenes and what that says about the values of the establishment as a whole.

Google
Handies Douzo is always a good pick for sushi, this one is as packed as the Heights location so make sure to make a reservation. Food is good as always, make sure to try the Hotate Crudo, my favorite! The only thing that bothered me was the distance between the chairs too close and they are specially uncomfortable too.

Google
Amazing service from the beautiful hostess upon arrival and it continued from there. The FOOD is like no other. Always so fresh. James makes sure everything is to your liking and makes great recommendations if you ask him. Francisco makes sure everything is running smoothly and is so helpful as well. THE FOOD. Go you will not be disappointed. Reservations are recommended. They do seat walk ins as well.

Came to Handies on a whim after passing by on my way to Sweet Cup, and I’m very glad I did! The place is small, so get there early or be ready to wait—but it’s worth it. The fish is fresh, and the staff is incredibly friendly. They even gave us some history behind a few of the dishes, so it was both educational and delicious. I’ll be day-dreaming about that yellowtail for a good while. Add the laid-back vibe and chatty crowd, and you’ve got a spot that’s as much about the experience as it is the food.

Google
Aug-19: Outstanding hand rolls - toasty warm and crispy nori - easy to cleanly bite through. Biggest disappointment was holy shiitake hand roll - the wet mushrooms were placed at bottom with rice on top, and it was a soggy mess making it hard to bite through - not worth it. Crudos were very good. Wish that had a happy hour 😀. Place got crowded real fast as there were not many seats around the counter. Service was good.

Yelp
Brought a friend here who was visiting Houston on Halloween night. We had excellent sushi bar service, and the quality of the food is fantastic. I especially love the hamachi roll and the negitoro with caviar. the melon cream soda was also a really nice accompaniment to the hand rolls. You can imagine on Hallowee night, the place was decked out with creepy decorations. Handies Douzo was the perfect spot to take my friend. She absolutely enjoyed it and spoke highly of her experience. (We were enjoying ourselves way too much and forgot to take pictures)

Yelp
I'm obsessed with this restaurant group, mostly Aiko, but Handies is great when in the mood for more handrolls...but also don't miss out on the delicious crudos. Counter seating seems a little snug at times, but works just fine. From what I'm noticing reservations seem to be open in the early hours of the evening however it does fill up quickly! Don't leave without the spicy tuna roll...

Yelp
We visited Handies for a late Sunday lunch. We did the 5 roll set and each roll was so fresh and delicious. The service was very attentive and the bar seating was fun! We'll be back. :)

Yelp
Came with a friend on a Saturday evening with a reservation and were seated immediately. We ordered the lychee cocktail, the sake crudo, and we each ordered the 3 handroll set + an extra handroll - I opted for the negitoro. The cocktail was really good; it had a more real lychee flavor rather than artificial and the actual taste of alcohol was nonexistent. The handrolls were solid with a decent rice to fish ratio. My favorites were the yellowtail and spicy tuna handrolls since they had garlic crisps inside. I'm glad I read other reviews prior to going as I was originally going to go for the 5 handroll set, but the 3 was plenty - I could've gone without the extra negitoro. Service was also very friendly and attentive. Overall solid choice for handrolls & bonus points for having a (albeit small) parking lot!

Yelp
I'm definitely a regular here The staff are so sweet and always welcome you when you walk in! The service if always fast. Easy stop for lunch! Dinner definitely needs a reservation for most days, they stay pretty booked. Ambiance is cute, decorated with avatar toys and ducks. Food is always so fresh, they made it on the spot. I always see them cutting fish to prepare for the night. They don't offer to-go service bc they want you to eat it fresh. & also the seaweed paper would definitely get soggy. Good quality sushi in a decent price range. They also have given me so many gift cards for customer loyalty!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite sushi spots in Montrose! The quality of the fish and rice is surprisingly good. For this caliber of sushi and rolls, prices are generally fair too - you can eat pretty well for less than $50. It is all bar seating, so not a lot of spots - great for dates/pairs, probably not ideal for big groups. During peak hours, making a reservation will be to your advantage. I like how they have a dedicated parking lot too (it's not big, but adequate for the size of restaurant). Maybe unpopular opinion for Montrose, but for sushi, this place is such a better value and better food compared to Uchi.

Yelp
Food - amazing, love these handrolls so much I couldn't stop coming back. My wallet already hates me Service - the staff here are all super attentive, on point, friendly, knowledgeable about sushi, and fun to chat with Ambiance - casual, modern, clean - I dig the bar vibes Handies duozo is hands down one of my favorite handrolls and sushi place in houston. It delivers one of the best quality food. I've been to both montrose and heights (original) location and neither disappoints. The quality is kept top notch. You have to visit this place if you visit houston! Will be creating a better review @traveltoeat.jpg

Yelp
I recently dined at Handies Douzo and was impressed with the entire experience. The decor is modern and hip, creating a great vibe from the moment you walk in. The food was exceptional, with each hand roll fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was equally impressive--attentive and friendly, ensuring a smooth dining experience. What stood out the most was the price--much more reasonable than most hand roll spots, making it a fantastic value. Highly recommend for sushi lovers looking for quality without breaking the bank!

Yelp
I love this place. I love it so much. Wonderful staff, even better food. I came here for a date with my boyfriend and we each got the 5 piece set. That was MORE THAN ENOUGH. We thought it wouldn't be. We were so wrong. SO FILLING. They also have Ramune, FUN! I also just came back for a lunch on a week day with my dad and he loved it too. He got the 5 piece set and I got the first 3 rolls on the 5 piece set. Next time I will try the hamachi roll!!! LOVE IT HERE!!!!! I WILL BE BACK!!!!!

Yelp
Looooove handies! Been to both locations several times, great experience every time. We usually get the 3 hand roll set and some crudos. Can never go wrong with the hand rolls, so fresh and delicious. Their crudos are good too, really enjoyed the maguro one but we thought the Kanpachi was less of a hit. Have tried their lychee yuzu cocktail and a stawberry basil Serrano one and enjoyed both (second one predictably had a kick to it). Definitely a reliable spot on our favorites list. Service is always friendly and we love the fun pop figures and rubber ducks they have out on the bar lol

Yelp
Handies Douzo is a great date night spot or even for a small gathering with friends. It has bar seating and can fill up fast so I would recommend making a reservation in advance. This newer Montrose location has a small parking lot out front which makes parking a lot easier than at their Heights location! I've been here a handful of times and typically get the 4 or 5 handroll set and a crudo to share. They've always been consistently good. This may be an unpopular opinion though, I think all their handrolls taste the same. The chefs put this garlicky crunchy stuff in several of their handrolls and I find that it overpowers the handroll. I know some people really enjoy this crunch but I feel that it takes away from the freshness of the fish.

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because these hand rolls were kept out of my life for too long. --- --- --- Handies was one of those places that I have had bookmarked for years and have considered visiting about 20 times, but just never actually done so. Finally, I had an errand to run nearby and was going to make it happen! Except it almost didn't happen. This was the day after a crazy storm rolled through Houston. I actually went to the Heights location, but the area looked like a war zone. It was no surprise when I pulled up to see that it was indeed closed. It looked like there was even part of a tree on the building, so I hope everything turned out okay. While I thought I might be putting off my Handies visit yet again, I was happy to see that there was a second location in Montrose, so I headed down there. I'm torn between saying it was worth the wait, and beating myself up for waiting so long. I ordered the 4 Hand Roll set and thought each one was excellent. If I were going to be picky, I'd say I wish I had another fish based roll instead of one with avocado, but it was still quite tasty. I finished with the Maguro Crudo and it was perfection. I would have drank the bowl like it was cereal milk if I wasn't in public. I'd happily come back here and order every other item on the menu. I fully trust that I'd love everything.

Yelp
I'm always up for a good hand roll. Handies is my favorite place in town to get some. It's nice that they have open up more locations. Love the service here and how friendly the staff is. Similar set up per usual with bar seating and menu. We got lucky and didn't have to wait as there were two people leaving when we came in. We opted for the five set hand rolls which came with the BGB sake, spicy tuna, kani, avocado, and negitoro. We also ordered kanpachi crudo as well. My favorite was the negitoro and kani but all of them were amazing. I always love coming to Handies. Very consistent quality and excellent service.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the crudo I had here. After eating some heavy dishes through out the week, it was nice to have something that was more light and refreshing. The service was pretty cool - a combo of casual but also upscale. The only downside is that the portions are a lil small for what you pay

Yelp
I've heard about this place from so many people and I'm glad I got to finally experience Handies! My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day so it was packed. The seating is a little cramped and the chairs aren't exactly the most comfortable but overall, the restaurant's vibe is laid back and casual. I started off with the Olyshii cocktail. I would honestly come back to Handies just for this drink- it's sweet from the lychee, has that citrus aroma from the yuzu, and just enough sake where it's not overpowering (I'm the type of person who likes alcoholic beverages that doesn't taste like alcohol so just fyi haha) My boyfriend and I got the 5 Handroll set, Sake Crudo, and the Kanpachi Crudo. Everything in the Hand-roll set was delicious- my favorite was the BGB Sake! For the Negitoro, we got caviar for an extra $4 and tbh, I don't think it's worth it. I've never had caviar before and I wanted to try it but it's just a little extra buttery flavor, nothing crazy. I wished the set didn't end on a Avodaco roll because it just leaves you wanting more. I'm pretty sure that's their tactic and it worked because we ended up ordering A La Carte and got the Hamachi Hand-roll and the Hotate Hand-roll lol. Their Hamachi roll was delicious but the Hotate was okay, I wasn't exactly a fan of their filling aside from the hotate itself. As for the Crudo, the sake was good but I thought the chili garlic was a little overpowering. However, their Kanpachi was delicious! I love how refreshing this dish was and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Overall, I enjoyed Handies very much! The food was great, service was super welcoming and friendly, and I can't wait to drink their Olyshii cocktail again!

Yelp
My husband took me here for our marriage anniversary and it was amazing. The seaweed? Crisp. The fish? Like BUTTER. The chef? So friendly and fun to talk to. The service? Impeccable. The vibes? Homey but upscale. It's pricey but the fish is top-tier quality. You also get a gift card/discount for next time after you check out ;)

Yelp
Wasn't sure what to think of hand rolls but these were not what I was expecting, in a good way! These are not the traditional hand rolls in a cone - they are cylindrical so the filling is spread evenly per bite - brilliant! The seaweed wrap was crisp and fresh, the rice was perfect consistency, and the fillings - yum! We both started with the 3 hand roll set - the spicy tuna wasn't really spicy so enjoyed all 3. All of them had some sort of crunch in it, adding a nice texture to each bite. We didn't get the 4 set because I didn't want to add one just to be an avocado hand roll. We tried hotate, kanpachi, and maguro crudos. They were all good, but my favorite to least was in that order (hotate first). The scallop portion was very generous. For sushi, it was priced as expected. Our bill was $133 pre-tip and we did have a drink. I can't comment on the drink since I don't generally like alcoholic beverages but it looked pretty. Would recommend getting a reservation as it's bar seating only and it was full the entire time we were there. This location was nice as it had enough parking for the number of seats. There were about 5 people working behind the bar, making items to order so it all moved quickly, but not rushed.

Yelp
Food is amazing, and I really want to give 5 stars but I the cocktails are just okay. I always leave and go elsewhere for drinks.

Yelp
The most kind, friendly, and attentive staff ever. This is our first time at the new location (having been to the original one a few times prior), and the quality doesn't miss. Having tried handrolls from the famous spots in NYC and LA, I can definitvely say that this place is still our favorite. The ingredients are fresh, and the seaweed is CRISP. For first timers, I'd say start with the 5 handroll set and build from there. For the veg folks or even if you're not, try the oshinko tofu handroll! It's one of the best things I've ever eaten. The humble & not your basic avocado roll is also not to be missed. TLDR: Good vibes and even better food
google avatar

Yelp
This place is an intimate sit around bar in which you can watch as the chefs prepare your food. They specialize in hand rolls, crudo dishes, and sashimi. Quality is amazing, and they focus on accentuating the freshness of the fish. The rice to fish ratio is perfect, paired with crunchy seaweed! The staff are super friendly and welcoming. The service is consistently impeccable every time I go, as well as the food. I highly recommend this place for all my sushi lovers! My favorite items: -3 hand roll set (BGB Sake, Hamachi, Spicy Tuna) -Negitoro hand roll -Spicy Hotate hand roll -Uni hand roll -Sake crudo -Hotate crudo
google avatar

Yelp
Have had Handies on my "to try" list for a long time now, I drive past it allll the time. Had a really pleasant dining experience here, meeting a friend for dinner recently. I stuck with only hand rolls, and they were delicious! The space is a bit limited, so be aware if you're hoping to go during peak days/ the weekend. Definitely best suited for a two-person group rather than big parties given the bar-style seating. Only thing off putting was a strong fish smell upon walking in which had me worried for a second, but the food definitely lived up to what others have said in previous reviews.

Yelp
even though we have similar places like this back home in california, we still tried because it was a highly recommended place by local texans hehe great place for a date night! we lichrally came here after eating whataburger as our pre-dinner meal loool handrolls range about $5-9 depending on the additional ingredients. the cut of the sashimi is very fresh and melts in you mouth yommy... i usually always order the hamachi or salmon or tuna a la carte depending on my mood. and we got a 4 set which includes the bgb sake, negitoro, spicy tuna, and avocado. i personally enjoyed the crunchy textures and smokiness of the seaweed paper. make sure to book a reservation with open table if you can to ensure your spot! it was easy to make one on a sunday afternoon/ evening for me but all the seats were still pretty packed. i got free stickers too yay !!

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. Staff is amazing and the hand rolls are so delicious. Hamachi Crudo is 1,000,000/10.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
My partner and I love this place, we come about once a month to this location. They have their own in house furikake mix and also perilla leaves that they add to some of the rolls. Yes, there's less fish than that other competing hand roll place, but the flavors here pack a bigger punch. It's usually the same staff at this location, they know us now, and they are such a great time. Whenever we drive by, I always look out for the signage with a seasonal pun, it keeps the place fresh in my mind, which keeps me going often! This location is the smaller of the two, it's more for groups of 2-4 people, and I'm not a fan of the backless counter seats, as it's not really that accessible if you're elderly, short or in a wheelchair.

Yelp
I've had hand rolls before, but never have I ever went to an establishment that specializes in them. I love clever names and Handies definitely fits that bill. Many a jokes were made. Yes, I'm immature. This is their newer, second location. Parking is tight in their own dedicated lot, but street parking is available as well. The restaurant isn't big and reservations are highly recommended because this place was busy the whole time we were there. It's bar seating where everyone gets to see their food being made. Seats are pretty close together, so if your claustrophobic or a big boy like me, ask to sit at a corner or the end of the bar. I knew coming in I was going to go with the 5 Hand Roll Set which I believe comes with their best one. I was thinking they were going to be tiny rolls, but each roll had a little bit of weight and girth to it. I couldn't decide which roll was my favorite because each one that came out kept making me change my mind. The fish to rice ratio was on point, and each roll had little flavor nuances that made them each stand out in its own way. If I had to choose, the Kani was outstanding and the avocado was a surprise fave as well. We also shared a few Crudo dishes. Again, each unique with different flavors, but the Madai Crudo was very delicious. The seabream was fresh as can be and melted like butter in my mouth. We washed it all down with some sake in a juice box. Overall, this was my first hand roll experience but it definitely set the bar high. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Houston's very own KazuNori! jk that's the only other big name handroll place I can think of, popular in LA. Handie's is a gem of a place. I love their Heights location (so cozy) and was a little adamant as this one looks more: clean lines and bare. But the lighting was ambient inside! The bar stools could've been spaced out a littttttle further but we deal. Packed house but as expected on a Saturday night. You could probably come in later around 8 and have gotten a seat, for now...this location is still new to people. Their ratio of rice + the quality of the fish is outstanding. I love being able to sit at the bar (haha cause its the only type of seating) and watching them make handrolls! Eachone is served to you one-by-one. They offer ginger and wasabi but you barely need it. I'm a nerd and read about food news, Patrick Pham and Daniel Lee are amazing. I've followed along since they were doing Secret Taste. If you're curious about why there are little action figures everywhere, i wish i had an answer for you LOL. They've always been around. I usually get a set of the pre-fixed handrolls and some crudo if I'm feeling it. I leave full enough!
google avatar

Bianca C.

Yelp
The atmosphere and food here was amazing! One thing I really enjoyed was the intimacy of Handies Douzo. It's unique because it didn't have the usual hustle and bustle of a sushi restaurant. It really allowed you to sit up close while the chef crafted your orders to perfection! I was really about to take in everything about my sushi... the fish, rice, crispness yet delicate seaweed and the flavors they included...I really didn't want to leave. If you're in Montrose and looking for a new place to try, give Handies a chance. I would tell yall what I had, but I don't want to embarrass myself, but trust me, everything you order will be delicious!! Bianca

Yelp
I love hand rolls. I do not know why it took me this long to try this spot?! I came on a Sunday for lunch, with no resy, but didn't need one. Only a handful of dinners coming in and out. I think during dinner hours, it gets pretty crowded, but off-peak is easy. I like that they have their own parking lot. I heard that the place opened in December 2022. These are the same folks that created Aiko (also delish). Service- was great. I love a sushi counter, making it super easy for dining. I enjoyed that you can customize as you go. Start with a set, and continue to order more if hungry. My server Bill asked me after each roll how I enjoyed them, which I appreciated. I like that he wanted to ensure a good experience. Smooth service, I only waited on one of the hand rolls, the second one. The rest of them came out as soon as I finished the last. I think the price point is super reasonable for the quality of fish you get and the attention to detail on flavor. The server also said the menu doesn't change, that it is probably a good thing. They have beer/sake and a couple of cocktails. I didn't try, as I came to eat! Food - I decided on the 4 hand roll set. I inquired with my kind server if there was anything he recommended from the ala carte side of menu, he said the Hamachi, so I ordered that as well. Hand rolls: -BGB sake - was delicious, my clear favorite of the Day, 5/5! Will come back just for this - Negitori - so tasty! -Spicy tuna -good - Avocado- wow, yum, packed a punch of flavor. -Hamachi - loved the smoky notes of this one. Overall, it's fantastic, just as all of the reviews have stated. I know this business will thrive.

Yelp
We ordered two sets and enjoyed everything. The rolls were well seasoned and not fishy-tasting. There was added crunch for texture. With the order of an additional kani handroll (which was real crab, and very good) after the set, we were pretty full. Great quick dinner.

Yelp
I'm glad they open another location in Montrose with better parking options. It is easy to locate this restaurant from afar due to the big sign board. This is an intimate restaurant with only bar seating. Reservation is highly recommended to avoid disappointment or long waiting time. Service was good. Staff were friendly and they explained the ingredients in each hand-roll. The Bluefin Otoro was fresh and had buttery flavor. The four slices of sashimi went down my throat easily. All the ingredients in the 3 hand-roll set were fresh. Each hand-roll was fully packed with warm rice, and slightly cold raw fish. The proportion of rice to fish was on point. I love the flavors in all the hand-rolls. However, it would have been better if the hand-rolls were tight, and there was a fold-in of the seaweed paper at the bottom to prevent rice or fish from dropping out. Menu is limited. Hopefully they would expand the menu to incorporate more exotic hand-rolls.

Yelp
Hand rolls are one of my lunch cravings. I usually dine at the White Oak location but equally enjoyed the Montrose one. The hand rolls all had fresh ingredients and crisp crunch from the seaweed. The Otoro Sashimi melts in your mouth. A lively and attentive staff and of course loved the Bob Ross Funko. Big plus for having their own parking lot.

Yelp
OMG this place is SO GOOD!! I'm so glad we got to finally try it!! We have been looking for a handroll place to try for a while, and this place popped up, so we decided to give it a try. They have a small parking lot out front but it seems big enough to accomodate for their bar seating. We came on Saturday around 1:30-2 for lunch with a reservation but there were plently of open seats available as well. We sat down at their bar seating, and they have hooks for bags under the table, which is nice so you don't have to put it on the ground. Be prepared to spend money because you're gonna keep wanting to order more! We started off ordering the BGB saketoro sashimi, maguro crudo, hotato crudo, and the 5 hand-roll set to share (so we could order more of the ones we liked later). The BGB saketoro sashimi was very fresh, so it tasted light and delicious. The quality of the fish is very good! The maguro crudo was my FAVORITE out of the sashimi/crudo plates. The flavors on this dish were out of this world and paired with the tuna it was LITERALLY SO DELICIOUS. This I would 10/10 order again and again! The hotate crudo was also super fresh and light; however, the dish did mostly taste like orange and was not what I preferred as much since I like more savory dishes. The 5 hand-roll set was DIVINE!! My personal favorites were the BGB sake (salmon) and the spicy tuna. The BGB sake handroll I think had the chili garlic inside and I really just loved it so much. It was so savory and umami. The negitoro (tuna) was also delicious, just not my favorite. The kani (crab) was also delicious but had more of a citrus flavor that again was not my preference. The spicy tuna was also delicious, savory and not too spicy. Lastly, the avocado roll suprised me since it was also delicious for being just avocado haha. I really enjoyed all the handrolls because most of them had added crunchy textures as well. I ended up ordering seconds of the BGB sake and spicy tuna handrolls! All in all, I do think the hand rolls were the star of the show, and I'll be back for my favorites!! I loved coming here especially since the dishes keep coming out as the chefs are making them with perfect timing as you are finishing up. The quality of fish is just so fresh and delicious! 10/10 would recommend and I am DEFINITELY coming back!! Just keep in mind not to come TOO hungry otherwise there will be a big bill to pay at the end haha but either way it is DEFINITELY worth it :-)

Yelp
I love this place!! One time I came by myself and spent $80 so I'll probably have to limit how often I come here before I go broke! Every time I've ordered here has been good. The flavors are always on point and fish always fresh. I tried a popular hand roll spot in Vegas but this place was way better in my opinion.

Yelp
Cool hand roll spot in montrose! Was able to get a reservation for two 2 hours before on a Saturday night and was glad I reserved in advance! It was bar seating only and those without reservations had to wait 25-30 mins. Staff was excellent in explaining then menu and making suggestions. It was fun getting to watch the chefs prepare rolls as we ate and we'll definitely be returning!

Yelp
Came on Friday night and didn't make a reservation. I was told to wait 15-20 minutes but then was later told the wait would be more than 30 minutes after waiting 15 minutes already due to some glitch with their reservation system... they were super sweet about it but alas we didn't want to wait over 45 minutes and would've appreciated knowing in advance. Would highly recommend making a reservation before you go as there is very limited seating and no take out option!! (I was only a party of 3)

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a while now as I've heard good things about their hand rolls and sashimi, and I'm happy to say it was a good experience overall. They serve very high quality fish in their sashimi and hand rolls, at a decent price. In particular, I really liked the BGB Sake sashimi (salmon) and hand roll, as well as the Japan-imported UCC green tea!

Yelp
Amazing fast service. I walked in and asked for take out but I got convinced to sit down saying it'll be the same amount of time. I said 10-15 mins tops? He said yes so we sat down and ordered 5 rolls. I have to say, we finished in 15 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. I was not expecting this quality of food. A tad on the higher end of the price range but it was definitely justified. This restaurant was also super clean and neat - including the bathroom. I also love their napkins - so soft and thick. This is the quality of napkins fine dining restaurants use to dry your hands after washing. Also love their plates and the fast refill on my ginger. Overall, I would come here again. Who would've thought this is considered fast food? FYI - still have an appetite after 5 hand rolls but it was tasty!

Yelp
this place is everything i could ask for... the food?absolutely incredible. the environment? so simple yet so intimate and relaxing, great for a nice small lunch/dinner with friends or your partner. the menu is quite limited to hand rolls, sashimi, and crudo dishes... but everything is just sooo good. the hotate/spicy hotate are my favorites!!!!!! hotate (scallops) - 10/10 delicious!!!! spicy hotate - 1000/10 not very different in terms of ingredients from the original hotate other than the delicious sauce but TRUST it makes such a difference, soooo good. olyshii - 9/10 this has to be lychee juice, it is soooo good i could barely taste the sake but can't lie it will hit..

Yelp
I never thought I'd pick handrolls over a traditional roll or nigiri, but Handies has some AMAZING handrolls! I just love the vibe of the restaurant, from the beautiful, intimate bar-style seating, to the cute decor and very kind (and fun to watch) chefs behind the bar. I walked in late on a Saturday evening and easily got seating for one. It's a perfect spot for treating yourself to dinner, or a small group though I highly recommend reservations for 2+ people. Definitely try the handroll sets, as it's a great way to try their various flavors. Even the most "expected" of rolls like the spicy tuna will have a degree of quality and flavor that will be new and delicious to you. The sashimi crudos are definitely worth adding to your order as well. The staff were so attentive and very nice. The price was definitely a bit more than your standard handrolls, but you'll taste the difference and it's worth it! I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this experience! I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon and was the only one there! This 26 seat restaurant is perfectly for a Japanese sushi experience. Wether you just got off work or are on a lunch break, you can come here for a quick in, eat, and out meal. For nights, definitely make a reservation. They do not offer to-go nor do they offer hard liquor at this restaurants. Everything is decently priced as well. Sushi was top notch and made right before you. The sushi chefs are mindful of how fast you eat so that you get served each roll as soon as you finish one. Their menu is limited which makes it easy to make a delicious decision. All the staff were all very friendly! I will definitely return when I'm in town.

Yelp
Food is 10/10! My typical go to is the three piece, which includes three different hand rolls. The fish is fresh, and never disappoints. I've been to both locations, and I feel that this place has a better set up. They have more parking and are less uptight about seating time. To avoid any wait, I would recommend making a reservation. The place is clean, and the staff is friendly. It's very much a restaurant worth trying, I would stop by if you have the chance!

Yelp
This is a great sushi addition to the neighborhood! Reservations: Definitely make them on Resy! This place is small and always packed during prime dinner time. If you come after 9pm, you may be able to get a seat as a walk in. Parking: Private lot but small. There is also street parking in the neighborhood. Seating: This place is all counter/stool seating that faces the kitchen area. Doesn't seem too kid friendly to me with this design and it's fairly tight to fit a stroller. Seating is in close proximity to your neighbor. I don't suggest going here with a big group of people since it may be hard to talk. Perfect for date night! Food: Everything here is so good! I'm usually not a fan of hand rolls because all the previous places I've been to just put way too much rice in them but this place has perfected their fish/rice ratio. The nori is always so crisp and fresh. It's definitely a must try. When I go I usually get the 3 hand roll set which consists of BGB sake, hamachi, and spicy tuna. All are very good. My favorite crudo is the Sake one. My favorite pieces of sashimi are the bgb sake (better than the saketoro) and the bluefin otoro. As for the special hand roll- the California Uni is very good but the spicy hotate hand roll was too spicy to taste the fish. Drinks: They do not have a full bar so the alcohol menu is fairly limited. They do serve sake, sake cocktails, beer, and wine. Service: Everyone here is so friendly and helpful with making recommendations. Since it's such a small space, it's easy to get to know the servers. Food comes out fairly quick and alway fresh. Overall, I'm so happy this place is in walking distance from me so I can come back often!

Yelp
I really liked their straight to the point short menu but the bad news is that you will want to order the WHOLE short menu because everything is so amazing!! Haha We left very happy and the service was amazing as they would share their personal favorite menu items that helped open my mind a lot. Did end with their signature uni hand roll which was a bucket list check for me! Seating is tight with no back support so drinking more of their "juice box" sake will make you forget about the lack of back support in no time! Lol

Yelp
Food was so good I didn't even have time to take pictures. I have never been one to like salmon but with minimal pressure I decided to try it here and let me tell you, they changed my outlook! I had the 3 roll hand set and it was the perfect amount of food. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and patient. We went on a weeknight and just beat the crowd. I would recommend making a reservation here just to secure your spot. It's popular for a reason! Street parking is available

Yelp
Came here after a visit to the museums for a quick lunch. The folks here are really friendly and if you're a newbie - they'll help you out. It's essentially counter service around the bar and with all the windows, very nicely lit during the day. As the name implies, the main focus of the restaurant are hand rolls, which are cylindrical vs cone shaped, so you get a nice even combination of rice, nori and filling. If you're of average appetite, I would say a few handies would satisfy (personally I think I could take down 5 of these bad boys). They have the hand rolls in sets of 3, 4 and 5 (no substitutions) and if you want to share you'll need to bite and pass on these. Or you can go a la carte and put together your own set. Some of the group favorites: Avocado, Hamachi, Hotate, Negitoro, Hokkaido Uni. They also have sashimi and crude (4 pieces in each) and these were really good too. Sashimi is basic crowd pleasers and the crudos were well balanced in flavor. A few hand roll / crudo specials are at the bottom as well. This place is great and you can power through some food if you need a quick bite. (Service is quick). Once your done - pay at the register!
