Naemo, a takeout-only gem in Koreatown, puts a fresh twist on traditional Korean dishes, serving up a blend of nostalgia and innovative flavors.
"HanEuem is one of Koreatown’s more modern spots with a sleek ambience reminiscent of trendy Seoul restaurants. On the menu are updated versions of classic homestyle dishes from chef Wonsuk “John” Kang, including delicious egg-and-flour battered and fried jun served in a basket. More adventurous diners should try the spicy marinated raw crabs or the raw soy-marinated shrimp, a take on classic ganjang gejang. For lunch, prices are slashed 15 percent, a boon for anyone looking to save a few bucks." - Matthew Kang
"One of our new favorite pop-ups, Naemo, is back with a brand-new menu. This time, they’ve collaborated with chef Kyungbin Min of Hanchic to put their spin on the gujeolpan, a traditional Korean meal that includes nine sectional plates, and dates back to the 15th century. Dishes will include seasoned eggs rolled with perilla leaves, stewed boneless prime rib eye, and spring chaeso - a seasonal radicchio salad tossed in plum vinaigrette. Each box costs $95 and serves two people. Pick-ups are held April 20th - 23rd and 27th – 30th, and re-orders can be placed through Tock." - kat hong
"Once a month, Korean-American restaurant vet, Arnold Byun (who cut his teeth at fine dining NYC restaurants such as Eleven Madison Park and Atomix), works to create a brand-new dosirak meal at his pop-up, Naemo. Sometimes that meal is prepared solo, other times with a partner like Hanchic, but what stays consistent is his commitment to innovation and reimagined Korean cuisine. Takeout boxes come wrapped in a beautiful, gauze-y cloak. Grilled mackerel rests on charred, smokey confit mushrooms, and raw flounder is dressed in a bright gochujang vinaigrette that leaves a tangy taste on the tongue. A meal from here is sort of like seeing your coworker at the grocery store, or this clip of Lester from The Simpsons - at once, so nostalgic and familiar, but also a completely new experience. Naemo is a takeout-only spot, so head to their website to place an order." - kat hong
"Naemo’s final event/pick-up of the year will be this Sunday, December 12th at the Helen J. Gallery in Hollywood. They’ll be selling hyang, an incense/tea/dessert pairing box designed and presented by several Korean American artists and makers. Each box is $98 and comes with three different pastries, three Korean teas, and three varieties of incense. Pre-order is available here." - brant cox
"Finally, chef Wonsuk “John” Kang garnered praise from Los Angeles Times critic Bill Addison for his gastropub-like Korean fare at HanEuem." - Matthew Kang
