The 38 Best Restaurants in Honolulu, Hawai‘i | Eater

"This upscale-ish restaurant adds a fresh vibe to Honolulu’s Korean barbecue scene with its minimalist interior and counter, where you can see the butcher slicing marbled meats. You’ll find cuts ranging from tongue to tripe, including go-tos like rib-eye and short rib. For dinner, order one of the set menus for variety. Or better yet, come for the lunch set, with combinations for under $30 that include a choice of meat, stone pot rice or cold noodle, and plentiful banchan. Know before you go: There’s no corkage fee for your first bottle." - Martha Cheng

Great food and awesome service! They have a wide variety of banchan that were all tasty and the staff was very accommodating to out needs! For the amount of food and the quality, it's worth the price tag. Loved their hot stone rice (영양밥)!

Nice interior and music, delicious food all around. Parked in the mall parking lot and walked across the street. Love the beef with vegetable soup and the seaweed soup! We ordered grilled rib meat, it was tender and flavorful.

I had a wonderful dining experience here. The staff were shy and reserved, but incredibly kind and attentive, even during a busy rush. They ensured our needs were met promptly, and their warm demeanor added to the experience. Shout out to the young man who serviced our table--he was so patient and understanding, which really stood out! The ambiance was clean and sleek, with black walls that gave the restaurant an elegant and modern feel. It was a nice touch that enhanced the dining experience. I also noticed the staff wore uniforms with a Korea badge on the side--a very traditional and unique detail that I thought was really cool. As for the food, it was delicious! The kalbi was rich and flavorful with a marbled texture. However, the edges were quite fatty, which overwhelmed my palate a bit. For the price, I would have liked the excess fat trimmed, but the kimchi stew came to the rescue! Its acidity perfectly balanced the heaviness of the kalbi. The fish was another highlight--perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. It added a lighter, flavorful complement to the overall meal. This was such a satisfying meal, and I'm already looking forward to coming back for more. Highly recommend this spot for great food, elegant ambiance, and warm service!

I love Korean BBQ and this is now one of my favorite places to go. I really enjoyed the food here. The lunch special is a great value based on what you get. I had Kalbi, Tofu Soup, Side of Rice and all the veggies on the table to share. It was more than enough food to make me full. I would come back here if I'm ever in the mood for Korean BBQ.

Refreshing small pickled dishes and tasty spicy beef tartare cold noodle. The cold soup broth that came the noodle was exceptional cooling down the body on a hot and humid afternoon. The oxtail soup was also smooth and nourishing. Dishes were well balanced of texture and flavors. Staff was helpful bringing extra bowls to share.

Edited 4/12: I tried their Old-fashioned beef (bulgogi) hot pot and green onion pancake with seafood for dinner. Three people can barely finish it. At the same time, it was so delicious that it was hard to not eat it all. Honestly a better experience this time around. Not sure why this place is so popular. To me, it's alright. Saturday lunch special was $25.95 for one healthy purple rice in stone pot (it was in a metal bowl), one main dish (either kalbi, bbq chicken, or choice of grilled fish (mackerel and yellow croaker), and one stew (soft tofu, soy bean or kimchi). It's a hardy meal, however I had egg shells in my soft tofu soup, and the rice quickly got stuck to the sides of the metal bowl it came in. I got the $25.95 lunch special. Soft tofu stew had one clam and one soft boiled egg in it. If it wasn't for the egg shells it would have been pleasant to eat. Purple rice had two pieces of squash in it, taste good, and the bbq chicken was tender, not dry, and good flavor. It was over a bed of round white onions on the hot plate. It was easy to eat. They provide a number of side dishes, all good. If you like fresh kimchi instead of sour, that's what they serve. They also provide hot tea and cold water for the table. Service was busy, but they did their best to watch and serve everyone. Food came out pretty fast considering they were really busy. Atmosphere is a typical korean restaurant, loud kpop music masking the multiple tables of conversation. Restaurant is pretty cold, I believe it's to offset the table cook top heat. Each table have direct ventilation system which helped reduce smoke. Compare to other yakiniku restaurant it wasn't too smokey inside. Entry from waimalu street or from the parking lot side.

My first try at this Korean restaurant. Our instant favorite Korean restaurant in Hawaii now. Family of six and we all enjoyed the food. Very good portions for the price and the food was delicious. Ambience is great and it’s a medium size restaurant so make reservations. Service was top notch. Highly recommend. We will be returning.

Google
Delightful Korean BBQ! We had the Prime Beef 9 course meal the cost was $70 per person. For the amount of food you get it was fairly priced. All the food shown in the pictures to include two noodles. The cold noodles and beef skirt steak were the stars of the show. I was a bit skeptical when trying the cold noodles but it actually works together and was delicious especially the spicy! Restaurant is small and during lunch time it gets pretty busy because of their lunch menu special. When you walk in there is a sign in sheet to put your name on. They have couple chairs outside for waiting and there is no room to wait inside. Overall well priced, great service, small restaurant but spacers in the seats make it private dine, call and try making a reservation.

Yelp

Yelp
It was amazing. The service was great, food was so good. The meats are fresh, have tons of side dishes. Also, everyone should try the green onion seafood pancake. It's so good

Yelp
Haven't been in a while but we are back in town and hit this place up for an early lunch. Parked with ease in the back 'tho I understand that there is valet only parking in the evening, which is too bad. We have had mul nangmyon at YuChun and Seoul Garden and this place is my favorite, although my complaint on the skimpy amount of noodles was evident again. My husband's pibim nangmyeon, without the broth and with spicy sauce, easily had double the noodles of mine. Got the Kalbi combo at lunch and the meat was juicy and tasty, could have used a touch more soy or salt in the marinade as I had to doctor mine up with a dash of salt that I always carry in my purse. Servers were attentive and pleasant, unlike the YuChun gals who have earned their reputation as tip chasers bordering on mean girls. Although they are slightly expensive, the relaxed atmosphere and the professional service is worth it. And the food is always good except the potato salad was so dry that we couldn't even eat the tiny spoonful they gave us. Will be back again next week.

Yelp
Wanting Korean food on this chilly Sunday evening. Little did I know that choosing this place would change my view on Korean BBQ. Join the waitlist, it'll save you time to assure you get seated when busy and they were busy! We waited about 10 minutes, no problem. Once inside it was cozy and tastefully done. Seated given water and menus and was told any questions or ready to order press the button on the table and someone will be right over. I loved that! No need to wave anyone down! Menu was filled with all the things we love. They also had a few prefixed menu items. We opted for the Prime Beef 9 course meal for $70 per person. Yes, $70.00 but, it's worth it! You get 10 different types of Banchan. A salad, Kim Chee pancake, noodle dish hot or cold or a tofu soup, miso based soup or Kim Chee soup. You also get steamed egg! Best of all was the cuts of beef. There were 4 different types of meats and included was Waygu. The beef alone was outstanding. Every cut was moist and flavorful not to mention TENDER! I was in beef heaven! lol. They have meat cutters trimming the meat in a visible area. That shows the great care the placed in their cuts of meat. Awesome! They serve many types of alcohol from Soju to Terra beer. At the end of the meal they a skewered pineapple. The service was top notch. Efficient and attentive plus you have that button to assist in getting someone. They set it up for you and cook you meats for you too if you want. If your grill was empty here they come to cook you more! This place reminded me of Korea. This elevated BBQ is my new favorite. Splurge and try them out you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
We recently ordered takeout from Hangang and tried the Spicy Pork ($29.99), Kimchi Stew ($23.95), and Meat Jun ($25.95). It's on the pricier side, but you definitely get what you pay for. The ingredients were fresh and the plates were packed with meat! Banchan is complimentary and perfectly seasoned if veggies are your thing. I loved the flavor of the kimchi. It was extra crispy! The Spicy Pork had a rich, smoky flavor, and the meat was high quality. However, I'm not a fan of fatty pork, so it wasn't for me--but my boyfriend very much enjoyed it! The Kimchi Stew was the perfect comfort food, but it was on the sour side. The Meat Jun was good, but the flavor was a bit mild for our taste. Each of our plates came with a heaping scoop of perfectly cooked white rice. I'd be willing to give it another shot because the service was excellent and the vibe feels so cozy. The good Next time, we're definitely dining in for the full experience.

Yelp
Fellow Yelper reviews helped solidify this venue for our family's New Year's Lunch and everyone loved it! My brother, son, and I love Korean food, but I also prefer my spice on the milder side. My parents were nervous as they can't eat spicy food, but we reassured them there was a good variety to choose from and they would be happily satisfied. Walking in, it was filled with local and visiting families of the same nationality, sprinkled in with a few visitors to Hawai'i. We would not have gotten a table without reservations, and there are a few seats inside and outside for walk ins and take outs to wait. I used Yelp to make the res!!! Throughout the meal, (our apologies to fellow guests who were clearly regulars), we ogled in awe at the array of meats being brought to the tables who opted to grill! (I hope my picture of the fridge and chef helps show the quality and care that goes into your meal!). (There's also a mural explaining the cuts of meat en route to the back door parking lot entrance and the restroom.) The lunch menu had many options, and you could opt for additional dishes a la carte. The array of banchan was colorful, with veggies galore, with tastes ranging from super spicy to absolutely mild. The boys opted for those big rice bowls and my brother added tons of extra spice! My parents and I opted for the chicken and kalbi lunches, which were beautifully presented and tasty! We were stuffed and I actually had leftovers for another meal (so yes, I did take out the leftover banchan). Loved their service, loved their food, and there was no lingering smoke from all the other tables who opted to grill! Tables are somewhat close to each other to fit more guests, and there are nice "dividers" between tables that are adjacent to others. The restroom was clean and so well appointed, there's even a bench to place your bags (better than using a short hook, or worse, the floor). I can't wait until I have a chance to return to grill for dinner!

Yelp
My last review for 2024. If you want high/good quality Korean bbq place, this is the place for you. I saw their joint list on Yelp so I wasn't sure if they took reservation but yes they do. This place isn't too big so I would call for a reservation. Although they're closed between 4 to 5pm, they do answer calls. This is not your typical Korean restaurant served by ladies. They serve lot of different items from bbq meats, stews, and variety of sides dishes. Their complimentary side dishes stood out like an art. Well made and perfect tasting. It took us while to decide what we wanted. I always wonder what other people order. They were pretty busy so it took sometime for us to get our food. My favorite was the marinated, big bone Kalbi that's hard to find even at Korean restaurant.
google avatar

Seyoung Y.

Yelp
Their food and service are both great. Even though it's a little bit on the pricier side, their lunch deal's pretty good and worth trying. I also tried kalbi tang and the broth was delicious. I'd definitely come back to try more dishes.

Yelp
We keep driving by this place and it looks so elegant we really wanted to try it. Finally someone suggested Hangang for a friend dinner. Made an early reservation and got a covered parking space in back of the restaurant, woo hoo! We ordered family style and since the portions were rather large it was a good idea. Ordered bibimbap, galbi, steamed egg, zucchini jun, and galbijjin. Also we split a bottle of Jeju soju. It was a little hard to get the attention of a server as it was very busy and the floor was a bit sticky so I didn't want to put my purse down, but the food was very good. I'll be back with my family.

Yelp
HANGANG is so good!!! Amazing customer service! They're incredibly attentive and constantly checking in to see if we need anything. They were also helping us cut and cook our meats. Sweet and caring staff The food was amazing! The quality of the meats were incredibly tender and excellent marbling. I got the pre fixed menu (9 - course meal) for $70 per person. The meats included a variety of cuts and came with steamed eggs (really soft and light), and kimchi pancake (lightly crisp, nice kick and great flavors). You also had the option to choose Korean Noodles or a stew with white rice. I chose Spicy Korean cold noodles and mannnn...those noodles were soft, chewy and bouncy. Has a gentle sweet taste to it and it wasn't spicy IMO (I eat a lot of spicy food) , it felt like a nice flavor booster than actual heat. I'll definitely have to come back to try their other dishes! The atmosphere was contemporary, clean and well divided for each group. I made a reservation through their IG and got lucky with street parking. I did see a valet option towards the back, but since I had street parking, I didn't bother to see how much it was. It is slightly on the pricey side, but I did want to try it out for the experience and quality. I'd recommend it if you wanna splurge for a excellent meal/experience :)

Yelp
One of my new favorite Korean BBQ spots for dinner. They're located across Ala Moana, on Waimanu Street, near Chun Wah Kam or across from KHON2. Parking is in the rear but if it fills up, then I'd probably recommend street parking or maybe Ala Moana.. They do take reservations via phone but I'd totally wait and dine here regardless. Pros: - Fast and great service with delicious food! - They've got a ton of side dishes that they serve with your meal and they're all so yummy! Cons: - I will say that sometimes the experience can vary... like one time, we got pineapple at the end of the meal which we could grill (so yummy) and other times we've visited, we didn't get anything... maybe it's seasonal but not a deal breaker.

Yelp
If you're looking for an unforgettable Korean BBQ experience, HangGang is the place to be! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm greeting and great service that made our dinner truly special. We indulged in the $70 Prix Fixe Prime Beef Nine Course Meal, and it was worth every penny. The star of the show was the four different beef dishes, each showcasing top-notch quality, perfect marbling, and exquisite flavor. Each bite melted in our mouths and had us savoring every moment. The meal was perfectly complemented by the traditional Korean banchan side dishes, which were fresh, varied, and bursting with authentic flavors. The steamed egg was light and fluffy, the kimchi pancake had the perfect crispy edges, and the cold noodles and stew offered a refreshing and hearty balance. To top it all off, the fruit dessert was a simple yet delightful ending to a phenomenal meal. The service at HangGang deserves its own shoutout--attentive, friendly, and genuinely invested in ensuring we had the best dining experience. Every detail, from the perfectly timed courses to helpful explanations of the dishes, was handled with care. We left with full bellies and big smiles. HangGang is a gem for Korean BBQ lovers or anyone wanting to experience a perfect blend of traditional and premium dining. We'll definitely be back for another amazing meal! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great food, great service, parking, nice ambiance... its everything you could want in a Korean BBQ place. Everything we ate was top quality. The handsome staff assist with the cooking. They all seem to work well together and looked like they liked working together. Not something I necessarily require where I eat but it definitely adds to the ambiance. Great "sets" to choose from if you are having a hard time deciding what to eat. They give you several sauces- I like sesame oil. Meats are tender and the sides are top notch. Check the photos out for details. The fresh pineapple for dessert was a perfect finish!

Yelp
Amazing lunch specials! You can choose yellow croaker, mackerel, galbi, or bulgogi. Definitely worth it. It comes out with a little Soon Tofu in a boiling pot with another rice in a stone pot! Great banchans (side dishes) that are very authentic, definitely a traditional Korean spot. There were nice booths and long tables. The parking lot was a bit small and fills up quickly, but there is metered parking in front, and there is the A la Moana mall parking lot across the street. Service was pretty decent. Food came so quickly!
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
The vibes are not what I expected at all! A semi fancier feel which matches up to the quality of the food here. Even though we came on Thanksgiving morning, it was pretty packed with customers. The prices are a bit higher than most KBBQ restaurants but my family and I enjoyed the quality, and considering we only ordered Combination B and the Bossam, it was enough to fill up the four of us AND take home a bit of leftovers. One of my favorite things about this place is that it doesn't get that smokey! I don't think we smelled too strongly after our meal which is pretty impressive. They have a parking lot in the back but if it ever gets full, Ala Moana is also an option with just a short walk over

Yelp
food was good. they have a very wide selection of meats. didnt see any of the radish or rice wraps available though, which i like to use. they did have lettuce wraps though. but it was odd as we got (2) cabbage leaves amongst the romaine.... tons of banchan, no soup, onion salad and regular salad the bring your meat out on a separate cart and leave that by your table, which is good since the tables are so small and filled with banchan they also brought another small table for our seafood pancake they started to cook our meat, but then went away, so we werent sure if it was a cook your own thing or a they come cook it for you like some of the upscale places. they never came back so we just cooked our own different variety of korean beer than im used to (terra) but it was super good. i dont even know how many bottles we ended up ordering the only dessert that i think they had though was a pineapple that they give you at the end. it was super sweet and juicy staff are all super helpful and friendly. like that theres the button to call them when you want to order more not super smokey either so good ventilation would def go again. they were packed the entire time we were there, so def make reservations

Yelp
Not your typical AYCE, smell like smoke when you are done and mean looking (but super nice) Korean ladies cooking your meat Korean bbq. The 16-type of banchan always brings me joy, then the oppa Korean waiters and the quality meat! Service is always amazing and price is reasonable for the variety and quality. Can't wait for them to open the East Honolulu location in Jan / Feb 2025!

Yelp
Had a company lunch at Hangang. They don't take reservation if less than 4 people so we just walked in at 12pm. Waited around 25 mins and we're able to get in. We ordered Kalbi Set with tofu soup and pumpkin purple rice. The portion was big and good enough for 1 person. The Kalbi had full of flavors and very tender. I love their tofu soup, not too spicy and they used extra soft tofu which made the soup taste much more delicious. The bomb was the Banchan. They have the best Banchan on the island. Lots of choices and refillable. Overall the restaurant looks clean. Servers were very friendly and helpful. I'll come and try their dinner next time.

Yelp
It's been years since I've been looking for a really GOOD KBBQ that isn't a franchise with long lines and mediocre food. Tonight, I think I found one on the island. After passing by so many times, we decided to come here on a weekday night. Hubs made a reso for 7 pm but the person on the phone said to walk in as a table may open up sooner. We arrived at 6ish pm and was seated by 6:40 with already a line out the door. It was a packed house with groups of 5 and even a birthday celebration. After reviewing the menu options, going back and forth about what to order, Hubs had his heart set on cooking himself vs ordering precooked in the kitchen. In this restaurant you actually DO all the cooking (vs others we've been to in CA where the staff cook for you). We decided on a combination that had wagyu beef (forgot which one, either A or C). The server made great recommendations saying the specialize in the pancakes and stews/ soups. I always like to try the seafood pancake. And I'm so glad I did bc Wow! Crispy, not too doughy, lots of squid, shrimp chunks inside without weighing the pancake down. Every bite made me want to eat more bit I needed to save room for the meat /beef. 3 types. I delved into the ban chan as it's my scale in determining how good a KBBQ restaurant is. Lemme tell you. This place didn't disappoint. From the kimchi (so fresh with Napa still crispy allowing you to grill it as well), sweet glazed potato (DD's fav), pickled purple daikon AND regular julienne. I was chowing down all the sides already giving a high 3.5 in my head when the meat hasn't even been cooked. The tofu soup looked spicy but when I actually tried it. Amazing! Piping hot and flavorful where there was kick of heat but it didn't take over the soup. When the meat was finally grilled, I dabbed some salt on the meat and OMG so good. Lots of pure meat flavor w/o any marinade or sauce. Hubs cooked it perfect medium rare to well. The wagyu is a good grade but too rich for my taste. After One slice it hit me so hard in the gut. I had to slow down the pace. Needed mire ban Chan to help digest. I finished off the meal with a cup of hot barley tea and complimentary pineapple skewers, perfect for digestion. Despite the wait, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and can't wait to come back. For awhile during dinner I seriously forgot I was in Hawaii. It emulated so much about SK with the buzzer to get service to the drawer on the side of the table to get napkins, chopsticks and bib to avoid grease splattering onto your clothes. Note: A lit parking lot is to the left of the restaurant
google avatar

Pearl T.

Yelp
I usually like to eat here for lunch with my daughter or with friends. I got the lunch combination with soft tofu soup and short ribs. The lunch can be inconsistent. Sometimes the soup can be too salty or too lacking. Other times it's very good. The short ribs are only 3 pieces and sometimes we get one with barely any meat, just bone or fat which was disappointing. Their side dishes are very good. I like the different varieties.

Yelp
True confessions for wearing a BIB: 1. When the Korean BBQ restaurant has a drawer at every table, and offers disposable bibs for patrons, they welcome you to keep your clothes mostly free of drips and splashes. So look around, lots of patrons are also rocking the bib :) 2. Grilling at your table means smoke and grill juices are automatic. I'm not an expert griller and sometimes the grilling tongs slip out of my hands and onto my clothes. So the bib for me, is also protection from my clumsiness LOL 3. I love bloody beef! So if I'm grilling something to medium rare and then rolling it into lettuce leaves and stuffing it with garlic and veggies, guarans that juicy beef WILL drip. Thanks to the bib for catching the drip. 4. Cucumber kimchi is one of my favorite banchans. Not only does my tummy enjoy it but ALL around my mouth will show signs of eating this perfect side dish (and numerous other side dishes). So the bib also serves as a monster napkin LOL. I can't think of fifth reason LOL so just know that the cuts of beef are high quality at this restaurant. I am thoroughly impressed with their array of tasty banchan too! Customer service was fast and friendly! Adequate free parking in the back, means I will certainly return to taste other menu items. Oh, and if you're too cool to rock the bib, they have a very convenient sink at the front door :)

Yelp
Randy S first got this restaurant on my radar with his stellar review and photos he posted. A friend of mine recently came with his wife and raved about this place. He suggested lunch here one day after golf so I finally was able to check Hangang out. They are located by Ala Moana Center and have shared parking in a private lot in back or street metered parking nearby. The restaurant is modern, clean and upscale. They offer a Prix Fixe Menu, combo meals or you can order a la carte. We were a party of four and decided to order 2 Combination B sets. It comes with a lot of banchan, salad, lots of meat, a soup, some vegetables and rice. It was quite a bit of food and we all left full. They offer salt and 3 dipping sauces for the meat. A water pitcher was provided and we could refill as needed. They have a button you can push for service but our server was with us our entire meal. She cooked all our meats and got us refills of banchan. We could just enjoy the meal and conversation with each other. Amazing service and she cooked all the meat perfectly. Great spot for Korean food!

Yelp
Unfortunately, I have to update this review to share that we've been going back once a week for the lunch special and had a terrible experience this last time and will not be returning. The two groups before us were served a full set of banchan (9 or so items in a circle), and we were served a partial set (5 items, in a half circle - photo attached). Since I've been coming so often, I was confused and inquired further. When I inquired about specific items like bean sprouts and nori, the server said they were "out" - that seemed weird since the group that was seated right before us - they didn't even have their food yet - had both of these items. Nori is also not an item that needs to be made, it's packaged, so it's weird that they would be "out." As we were leaving, we also saw that the group that had been seated after us also had the full banchan set, which included the items I had inquired about. Therefore, there were 4 total groups in the restaurant, 2 seated before us, 2 after us, and everyone had the full banchan set that I've always been served before, except for us. The server saw me looking at their banchan and asked if I knew them. I said, no I was just looking at their bean sprouts and banchan. Our friends who live across the street shared they had a bad experience until the servers overheard one of their members of the party was Korean. I was really confused, but it is the first time I've been there with my white partner so maybe that explains why we weren't given the full set of sides and why the server clearly lied about being out of certain items. We won't be coming back.

Yelp
Some things are pricey while others are affordable. They do have a 2 person meal for $99, but this time I went with a group and we ordered a variety of things. It came out to about $85 per person with food to take home. The service was good, but we did have a Korean speaker with us. I can't say how it would be if you only spoke English. We were seated in the middle and it was quite warm. I found myself sweating a lot! The seats were very comfortable though. Ventilation was good as well. Their sides were good. I ended up taking our favorites home. Really enjoyed coming here. My Korean student said it is very much like Korea as far as taste. I will come again in the future.

Yelp
We were craving some Kbbq and heard about this place from friends. Many have said that the meat quality is fairly good, but quite pricey. First and foremost, the service in my honest opinion lacked a lot. What you're mostly paying was the quality of the meat. We were ignored many times by workers - even when entering the store and it was not busy. Regardless we got one of the sets (Prix fixe menu) that costly roughly 70 dollars per person. The quality of the meat was good, and what you get from these sets is surprisingly more than what you'd expect. Everything within the set was really good, but was extremely disappointed with the 'Fruit dessert'. My friend and I thought it was perhaps some special fancy fruit dessert based not the prices .. But it was literally a pineapple on a stick. Would we come back here? Maybe if we ever decide to spoil ourselves.

Yelp
Hanging is located in the Alamoana shopping center area, if you're coming down from the Ewa side exit ramp, Hangang is on the right side right after the ramp. They have a parking behind the building and there are also street parkings in the area. What I like about this restaurant is they have a lot of side dishes! 9 total. We went there for a lunch and I tried the lunch special. The lunch special included pot of rice, choice of meat dish and a stew. Personally, I think the rice is kind of plain and don't have too much favor. The short rib has some onion serve on a hot metal no too sizzling platter. I picked the tofu stew. I truly think the chef forgot to put salt in my stew because the stew has not that much taste, however, my wife, beef intestine stew was very tasty. The service was great. They do have a call button on the table, and you can call for service which is very convenient. The male toilet is clean. Inside the restaurant looks nice and clean because it is a fairly new restaurant. Looking forward to go back to try some other dishes at dinner time I heard the grill meats are really good. Recommended.

Yelp
A wonderful new Korean BBQ place. It's located on Waimanu St. just across from Ala Moana shopping center. There is a small parking lot and street parking available. The staff was very friendly. We had reservations and were seated right away. You have the option of set menus or ordering ala carte. We got the set menu. If you like banchan, this is the place. There are so many little dishes available and they are delicious. The quality of meat was good. There was so much food and I was so full by the end of the meal. I've heard they have lunch specials also so I'll have to go back for that.

Yelp
It's the real deal here. Great service and high quality Korean bbq. You know a Korean place is good when the banchans are delicious! Gotta go back to try all the other dishes!

Yelp
Was craving KBBQ and stumbled here randomly. Absolutely loved this spot!! We came on a Saturday around 7pm and had to wait a little. The place was super busy! We ordered the prime beef 9 course meal and highly recommend that. Every meat dish was delicious. Banchan variety and quality was great! Come hungry!! And highly recommend getting the original Korean cold noodles (mul naengmyeon). My husband got the spicy one and there's a good kick. Only downside we sat next to the entrance to the area where the bathrooms are and it can be distracting. Service is a bit spotty since they were so busy. The booth we sat at has a call button, not sure if tables in the middle had it, so if you need something just use that button and they're quick to help. Will definitely come here again when we're back!

Yelp
Great service. They take reservations so make sure to reserve in advance otherwise the place is small and gets packed quickly so forever hold your hungrr. Oddly enough, the first thing I noticed when I walked in was a vanity sink left of the entrance. Moving on...there are parking spaces behind the building and metered street parking right out front. Luck was on our side as we pulled right into a metered parking right up front as the time changed to the free period. There is no where to wait inside so they have some Adirondack style chairs with cushions right outside the door. As soon as the rest of our party arrived, we checked in and were seated at a booth against the wall. The place is small, and I like that they have dividers up between the booths so it makes for good private-ish conversation. They have grilling sets and Ala carte meats, along with cooked dishes. I had to have the galbi jjim...or braised short rib. Surprisingly, it was listed as a soup, but did not really come as a soup. More like a sauce because the bowl was so shallow. Nonetheless, the meat was tender and sweet - so good! The servers help cook and cut the meat for you. Beware, remove the meat before it burns. There is a rack to remove it from direct heat but it still keeps cooking in the rack. The soondubujjigae was so good, I've never had it with seafood before! There was a nice clammy taste to it. I like that they give a wide variety of sides and that the salad has blueberries. The skirt steak was most excellent and so was the kalbi. I think the spicy pork could've been better...it wasn't that spicy. The potatoes in the galbi jjim were ridiculously large and didn't have much flavor in the middle; however, the carrots were very flavorful and sweet. Overall great experience. Servers were very welcoming and pleasant. I'd love to come back here again.

Yelp
Late review for our visit in February 2024. Top tier Korean bbq experience, definitely on the upscale side. My friend suggested this place and I'm so glad we got to try it. We ordered the prime beef course meal which is $70/person. Service was great, the server came to our table on occasion and helped cook our meats. Definitely make a reservation and just an FYI, parking kinda sucks.

Yelp
Came here for the first time recently, ordered two of the $79 sets and a side of meat jun not expecting how big the meal would be. The meat was authentic and worth it for the price you pay. Wrap it in your vegetables, add some salt, and dip it in the sauce and you have the best flavor right there. The set came with a lot of Banchan that could have filled me up on its own, a side of egg, salad, and so much more. The service was really excellent. Our server continuously checked up on us and would begin the cook for most, not all, of our meats. I would say that is the only confusing part. Some of the meats they'll start for you, cook the whole thing for you, and other's not all. However, it was a great first experience!

Yelp
Great Korean BBQ spot. Has parking in the back and the food menu is amazing. With orders you get unlimited sides of kimchi, seaweed, long rice, potatoes and various other delicious items. Just ask for more and they keep it coming. The meats are sliced and presented awesomely.

Yelp
This is the top Korean bbq spot in Honolulu and trust me on this one. Food: They have the best quality, cut, and variety of meats for both set menus and ala carte options. The meat never came out frozen or in solid chunks like at other places (as seen in my photos), and it comes with a variety of dipping sauces and high quality salt. My family and I ordered the 9 course beef ($70/person), and it was very filling, there was a good balance of soups (tofu, miso and kimchi), salads/lettuce wraps, beef, veggies (peppers and mushrooms), and noodles (spicy noodle and cold boodle). We all left extremely satiated and the meal ended with pineapple skewers. The craziest part was there where so many ban chan dished that we never needed a refill; we ate what was given because that was enough which is rare because I always need more kimchi. Service: they were extremely nice and always checked on us. There's a call light button and they responded right away with water, ordering more and the bill. The ambiance was very romantic, with the chill music and candlelight. Overall: I can see this as a monthly dinner date option as it is THAT good and THAT affordable.

Yelp
Hangang is now one of our new favorite Korean restaurants in Honolulu! We had a family of 6 and we wanted to have Korean BBQ for our family get-together on the island. We had heard that Hangang is a new restaurant that is gaining popularity among Korean BBQ lovers. So, we took this opportunity to check out the restaurant. We absolutely loved every part of our experience. Service was fantastic, prompt, and thoughtful. We ordered several cuts of meat as well as a few naengmyuns (cold noodle) for all of us. Meat was wonderful. It was a fantastic Korean BBQ experience. And the banchans. They were absolutely delicious and I think I just kept on eating everything. I also thought that the Hangang name stamped on their giant mushroom was a pretty cool touch. Definitely coming back for more.

Yelp
I went to Hangang with a friend and we both really like the options that were provided to us. The menu is a parade of Korean favorites, and the meat options are the stars of the show. Service at Hangang is commendable. As the staff's dedication to providing a memorable dining experience shines through and helping to cook the meat to perfection. We really enjoyed not being rushed and being able to take our time to enjoy our meal.

Yelp
I took out special rice meal. I chose bulgogi and soft tofu soup. Purple rice with kabocha and bulgogi were delicious. Plus they kindly offered me generous portions of side dishes. Soft tofu soup was bland taste for me (maybe they were considering me to eat with side dishes?) "잘 먹었습니다" (jal meogeosseumnida)

Yelp
Came here for Sunday dinner with my family. We made a reservation for 7:30 PM but we weren't sat until 7:45 PM which was extremely disappointing after going up and asking about our table for around two times. We did eventually get seated no one came to serve us until we press the call button, which was really disappointing. Seeing as how all the reviews said that this place had amazing service. I couldn't see the amazing service. All of the servers were very nice, but I would say the service was very underwhelming. I could see where people saw that they favored Korean tables. So that was a little disappointing too. Overall, the food taste was average and I couldn't see anything here really blew my mind in terms of taste or flavor. It was actually bit on the expensive side as well and yeah, honestly just a very mid meal but expensive with bad service so I don't know why anyone would come here when they're in Hawaii...

Yelp
Unbelievable lunch specials! $25.95 gets you a choice of stew, stone pot rice, choice of short ribs, chicken or fish and banchan. The room is nice, modern and clean. We received good service from the team (love it when the servers work together). The stone pot rice was garnished with chunks of kabocha. Super delicious. We both ordered the short ribs. They were thick & flavorful. My kim chi stew was perfectly seasoned and boiling hot. The tofu stew, also molten-lava hot, came with an egg. We also ordered a seafood pancake that was excellent! And an order of steamed mandoo, which were super plump and meaty and delicious! But let me tell you about the banchan!!! Each little dish was plated with care and attention. Every one of these little dishes was filled with something amazing. There was a chilled beef banchan that we never had before and it was tasty. These dishes were clean, fresh and beautiful. I am a new fan of this restaurant and cannot wait to return. Suberb everything!

Yelp
Love the variety of banchan! Appreciated Hangang for letting our party of 3 share the Korean Table D'Hote 7-course full meal for the $95.95 for two deal/price. The portions are generous! Even with 3 hungry wahines, we still had leftovers to take home. Went on a Saturday so validated parking $3 was available in small lot next door. Can always go shopping at Ala Moana shopping center pre or post meal and park near Nordstrom end and take a short 5 min walk over! I am so happy to hear Hangang will be opening another location in Niu Valley near my home! Lots of free parking at that location!

Yelp
Baegopayo. 배고파요. [I'm hungry in Korean] Let's go to Hangang. Hangang or Han River is the 4th longest river in South Korea But for today, we'll settle for Hangang in Honolulu In Korean dining, your meal will begin with some or lots of banchan. So what is banchan? It's a Korean side dishes that were either pickled, blanched, steamed, stir fried or braised with seasonings such as chili peppers , sesame seeds, onions, honey, soy sauce and other secret ingredients As soon as we walked in to Hangang, we were greeted with a smile and quickly taken to our table. The place is filled with lots of customers chatting away with a smile. So either they're already happy coming in or Hangang provided a delightful atmosphere. After we sat down to our table, I asked to use their restroom. It's not perfect but it was pretty clean. If you're reading this far, then you should start planning a day to check them out. My friend and I ordered the Hangang yang nyum galbi, or kalbi, shrimp fried rice, soon doobu chigae or soft tofu soup with pork and seasoned green onions salad. Everything was seasoned well from the galbi/kalbi to the seasoned green onions to the shrimp fried rice. The spice level was perfect [at least for me since I love spicy food]. We ordered those 4 items and so you're probably wondering why there's so much food on the table. Our server, Seo, served us with 9 different banchans for our starters from kim chee, pickled radish, honey potatoes, choy sum, seaweed with onions, stir fried fish cake, bean sprouts, red radish, and tteokbokki or rice cake. The banchan alone will have your tummy filled with delicious sides dishes! Our server, Seo, was quick and friendly. He even served us with fresh pineapples . If I may, I would like to ask them to consider adding sikhye. This drink would leave an extra sweet taste to my mouth! You can find Hangang on 1236 Waimanu St #1F Honolulu HI 96814. They are open everyday from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm and again from 5:00 - 11:00 pm.

Yelp
TL;DR A worthy challenger in the competitive KBBQ landscape. ----- I'm so glad I finally was able to dine here. My friends and I typically visit Millions to satisfy our KBBQ fix, but I've been meaning to try Hangang based on the Yelp reviews and pictures I had previously seen. My wife, daughter, and I called in a same-day reservation last Saturday and were able to secure a table for two, plus a highchair for my daughter. There's a parking lot behind the building, street parking all over the block, and Ala Moana right across the street, if needed. The restaurant interior was modern and sophisticated, the service was attentive and quick, and the food was delicious. There was a button next to our table that we could press to ask for help and the staff's response was always prompt, which was awesome. Huge plus for that. The banchan was a standout point of the meal. There were so many options from salads to kimchee to various pickled vegetables. It was all so delicious and plentiful. I usually have to order refills of banchan when I go to KBBQ but not here. The volume was impressive. We ordered the Fried Mandu, Stone Pot Bibimbap, and Soft Tofu Stew to share, and I requested an order of Beef Brisket. Since there was only one order of meat, the brisket was cooked in the kitchen, which was actually a huge win as we were concerned about the smoke and heat from the grill affecting my daughter. Everything was on point. We were also provided with three different sauces (a unique mustard sauce, sesame oil and salt, and a sweet soy sauce) as well as dipping salt for the meat. All in all, a fantastic meal, and we will definitely be considering Hangang again when the KBBQ craving hits next time.

Yelp
Hangang is a more expensive kbbq experience that my cousins highly recommended due to the fresh and quality cuts of meat. Call for reservations beforehand. I called about 30 minutes prior to heading over and snagged a table for 2, otherwise you might have to wait if you're a walk-in. Alternatively, you could walk-in after 9PM as the place starts to die down (open til 11PM). Ordered the prime beef course meal since it was my very first time. I wanted to order the tripe and chives meat entree (for 2) as well, but they were out of stock. I also tried to order some grilled duck, but they got too busy and forgot the order *which in hindsight was fine since the course meal was very filling. The banchan come out first, which I had ample time to taste test since the meats took forever to come out!! Banchan here for the most part are varied and beautifully presented some of the dishes are definitely misses. I appreciated the sliced and seasoned king mushrooms and the napa cabbage kimchee - both very good. The shared salad is also very nice and refreshing. Meats when they did come out were portioned on the smaller side. We agreed that the wagyu sirloin wasn't as delicious as the prime outskirt or cube steak. The brisket was okay. Kimchee pancake and steamed egg dishes were forgettable, as was the spicy bibim naengmyun (spicy cold arrowroot noodles). The soft tofu stew had ample tofu and seafood bits which was tasted amazing, albeit salty from some msg. Rice is regular white rice. I'll probably come back to purely try the meat menu, no combinations or pre fixe courses. Will try more Japanese wagyu dishes, gopchang, and duck. Then I'll pass final judgment. So 4 stars for now just because it was a nice experience and we were pleasantly full. Service was on the better end of the scale (they have a call button - but don't abuse it!) however wait staff do not cook the expensive meats for you (definitely do not have the time! Which is fine). I don't think the other Korean dishes on their menu (stews and other entrees) are worth the price points.

Yelp
Great place for a date with your friends. There was an assortment of banchan (side dishes) and they were tasty and fun to explore with friends. The kimchee had dept and was tasty, so you know you walked into a good place. We enjoyed the lunch special that included choice of meat, soup, and healthy purple rice. You can't go wrong with La Kalbi an kimchee stew here. It was easy to get serviced by pressing the button. The staff were friendly. Yes, I would go again here when spending time with special friends or family.
