San Diego’s 2024 Eater Award Winners | Eater San Diego

"Two of San Diego’s most revered bartenders, Eric Johnson and Christian Siglin — each a previous winner of Eater’s Bartender of the Year — reunited to open a North Park bar that’s been packed since day one. The friends, who met more than a decade ago while working at Noble Experiment and later teamed up at Craft & Commerce and Sycamore Den, offer a friendly, approachable space where everyone is welcome and "no drink order is looked down on." Cocktails are crafted with care but are plainly fun, including boozy slushies, a blue-tinted Negroni, and retro mixers like Tang and Cactus Cooler; all that, and the food’s great too." - Candice Woo

The Hottest Cocktail Bars in San Diego, May 2024

"The long-awaited bar from beloved industry veterans Eric Johnson (the Whaling Bar) and Christian Siglin (Fernside) has landed in North Park where the neighborhood has quickly embraced the friendly and relaxed hangout that can do everything from classic to custom cocktails. The menu features draft cocktails and slushees as well as bar bites like fried cheese curds and roasted cauliflower." - Kelly Bone, Candice Woo

Acclaimed Local Bartenders Open Happy Medium Cocktail Bar in North Park | Eater San Diego

"A recent and welcome addition to North Park’s bar scene, I see the long‑awaited bar and restaurant from longtime friends Eric Johnson and Christian Siglin—Happy Medium—as a project over a decade in the making by two hugely respected bartenders who met in 2010 at Noble Experiment, trained under craft cocktail legends, and even earned Eater’s Bartender of the Year awards in 2013 and 2014. Replacing Streetcar Merchants at the corner of 30th and Lincoln, it fits the sweet spot between a high‑end bar and a lived‑in dive: you can get a simple beer and a shot or order a mojito without judgment, but the skillful bartenders also get creative with a comfortably priced, playful list of draft cocktails and slushees—highlighted by a vivid blue negroni poured from a tap and a classic Ward 8 that swaps in a splash of Tang for orange juice. The kid- and dog-friendly spot serves an evolving menu overseen by chef consultant Ami Cisneros, from roasted cauliflower with salsa matcha and avocado puree to corn dogs, fried cheese curds, bone marrow toast, and a bodega-style chopped cheese." - Candice Woo

I've been wanting to try this cute little spot for happy hour and so glad I finally was able to go! The staff were so sweet and friendly. There was no wait, we were seated right away. There's bar seating and booth indoor and outdoor tables available. Parking is usually tricky in this area, but we got lucky with a spot right in front. Food/drink review: Buffalo sliders: (4/5) They were pretty tasty but the chicken was a little dry and super tiny. Kale salad/fries: (5/5) Surprisingly, the kale salad was delicious!! The perfect amount of dressing and no bitterness. The fries were super yummy and crispy. Hot dog: (3.5/5) It wasn't my favorite. The hot dog itself was juicy and flavorful but the toppings weren't my favorite. Baja blast slushee: (5/5) SO good and refreshing! Perfect drink for a nice hot day. The cups are also fun! Ward 8: (4/5) This was pretty tasty and more on the sweet side. I'd order it again. The zlatan: (4/5) This is basically just an old fashion. Definitely a strong sipping beverage! Cactus cooler: (3/5) It wasn't my favorite and the flavors weren't what I was expecting!

I visited for the first time for happy hour. I arrived at 3 so there’s no issue finding a parking spot near by. The place is spacious and I liked the open air setting. My friend and I sat at the bar. The service provided by both staff (don’t know their names) was friendly and helpful. I ordered a Tiny Spro-Tini. It’s like an espresso martini. It’s tiny but tasty. My friend got a margarita. It looked like many people ordered a pitcher of margarita. We also ordered buffalo chicken sliders and kale Caesar salad and fries. The sliders were ok but i really liked the kale salad and fries. The price is reasonable for the portion size. I would go back again.

Google
They have a good happy hour. We tried the drinks - large margarita & ward 8 and the food - sliders and mushroom po’ boy (minus the bread). We also ordered the blue Negroni off of the regular menu. The highlights were definitely the blue Negroni and those amazingly crispy mushrooms!!!! FYI - I’m a huge fan of panda, coconut and Mezcal. Tried the drink called Supergrass, did not like it at all.

Google
Fun happy hour, very energetic vibe. Service was fast and good. We got a table on the patio, they have heaters and Christmas lights! Good was awesome, drinks were fun and excellent. Plenty of vegetarian options, falafel, broccolini, crispy mushroom, salads, fries. Everyone was happy with their food, we shared a bunch of plates. The lemongrass mezcal cocktail was our favorite. Great time

This 32 weeks preggie lady was craving Happy Medium! Yes it’s a bar vibe (sooo let me feeeellll somethinggggg) but they have amazing food as well! I was able to get the NA Aperol Spritz, which just felt so perfect on a summer day. One of my favorite cocktails from here (yes before pregnancy) is the “Super Grass.” Missing those flavors: mezcal, lemongrass, mango, pandan. My husband ordered that this time and also “cactus cooler.” He loved both of them. Both have unique flavors! It’s always a fun atmosphere to sit outside and enjoy a drink! The food portions are great size and good to share a few things. We split the kale caesar salad (good even if you don’t like kale), beef sandwich & fries! Love this spot and everyone is always so fun working there!

I live a couple blocks away (7 years), I've never been here. We walked in about 10 minutes early (on accident, i didn't see the time) the bartender (sorry, don't remember his name) was so kind, he told us we could still sit and even said he would make us a cocktail. (Now THAT is customer service) The cocktails were very good and great presentation. Throughout the visit he was kind and checked on us. The vibes were chill and inviting. Can't wait to come back.

Came in from out of town and absolutely loved this place. Staff are extremely friendly, perfect bar for chatting and people watching. Definitely seems like a local bar. Their drink prices range from divey to typical $15 cocktails. Their ‘spro-tini was fantastic !

Google
This is truly the best go-to, any-day, come-as-you-are local bar. The drinks are fantastic, happy hour specials are great, and the food is memorably delicious. Their sauces are bomb, I haven’t had a single mediocre bite, and damn, those slushees slap.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped by Happy Medium on July 4th and the bar was packed around 9:30 p.m. My large party of six got lucky and managed to find standing room next to the window because a party was just leaving when we arrived. When we were seated, a server promptly came over to take our drink orders. The cocktails here are awesome! I really like the drink menu design -- separating out boozy "sippers", "porch pounders", slushes, and even boiler makers. Throughout the night, I stuck with whiskey based drinks. The high fashion -- bourbon, pineapple benedictine, angostura bitters, and zlatan -- rye, vanilla, swedish punsch, absinthe, and angostura bitters, were well-made cocktails that I would happily order again. My friends and I ended up getting three rounds of drinks because we enjoyed the atmosphere so much. I can't wait to stop by again to try out some of their food, as the menu sounds delicious.

Yelp
Wow this is the best Fish and Chips I've ever had in my life. The fish is Snapper and was so huge tender and flaky. We also had the delicious green goddess hummus and falafel. The cheese curds were Phenomenal too! I loved the cocktails, we started with the slushie which comes in a cool sippy cup and the Cactus cooler, then had the 99 problems. All the cocktails were so good and so reasonably priced. Don't sleep on this absolute gem of a place! The service was really quick and the menu is small but everything has a twist. I will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
This might be a new favorite! My friends and I arrived around 8:30pm on a Friday and were able to get seats at the bar right away. The employees were all really nice and attentive. There is plenty of seating both inside and out. It got busy, but didn't feel crowded. Meat 'N' Cheese Board: 10000/10, so so good! Great variety of meats and cheeses! I just wish there was a bit more bread, since I was sharing with friends. Great price! Fries: 10/10, so good! Juice Is Loose Slushee!!: 9/10, really good! STRONG! Great price! Served in a kids cup. My friends also really enjoyed their drinks. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Happy Medium gives off the those laidback brewery vibes but instead of beer, they're serving cocktails. It feels like a modern-take on a "locals-only/dive bar" without the grunginess of a dive bar nor the high-concept aesthetics of a fancy cocktail bar. It sits right in that perfect middle, that "Happy Medium" area (ba dum tss). But seriously, this is a great place to just grab a casual drink and catch up with your friends. We went during happy hour (Open-6pm) where only some of their drinks are discounted, not all. We were surprised to get a table for the 5 of us around 5pm on a Thursday. If you sit at a table, no need to go up to the bar and order. They have servers who will come take both your drink and food order which made it much easier. The Gin Tonic ($12) was very refreshing and I really enjoyed it. My gf really liked her Baja Blast Slushee as well (HH $9). We also got a side of the fried cheese curds which were super tasty! Very crispy and paired with both a really delicious ranch + vodka sauce. Considering the very fair prices of the overall drink menu + Happy Hour, Happy Medium is great addition to North Park.

Yelp
Came to this spot on a busy Friday night with a friend and the spot was very busy! It has a fun, dimly lit atmosphere with funky music that I enjoy. The place was very busy with a lot of people since there's no one regulating entry at the door and lots of tables in a comparably small space. I would not if you do not like feeling crowded and trapped. We luckily found a spot at the bar and were able to place in our order. Overall, I was happy with the service we received. It was never hard to flag down a bartender and I felt that they were well staffed. We also had some good conversations with the staff as we sat at the bar. I was pleasantly surprised by the drink prices. I ordered a refreshing mezcal cocktail and my friend ordered the espresso martini. Both were on the sweeter side, but nothing undrinkable and was good for the price. I was disappointed with the food we ordered. We ordered the bone marrow with a mezcal shot, and I basically consider it a waste of money. There was maybe a half teaspoon of actual bone marrow in our dish, the bone was incredibly shallow and we could not scrape anything away. The mezcal shot they gave us to drink out of the bone marrow spilled all over our plates since there was no depth to the bones, so it soaked the bread on the plate. Not to mention the mezcal shot was not good at all. Overall, I would come back for the drinks, but wait to order food somewhere else.

Yelp
Happy Medium has opened in a North Park suite that had been the home of a local fried chicken joint before it went out of business. Not that this area has any shortage of such establishments, but the two owners have transformed the space into an open air bar that is kid and dog-friendly. Parking near this 30th St intersection is a nightmare. You might be better off trying the multi-level, pay-parking deck a few blocks south. The simple food menu consisted of three mains and about ten shares. I am hopeful this will expand as the business grows its customer base. I picked the San Diego Fish + Fries from the trio of mains and sat at a two-top table on the sidewalk patio. A snapper fillet with citrus-brined and coated with batter before being deep fried. French fries and a cup of pickled jalapeno aioli were provided as sides. The large size of the fillet and the crunchiness of the french fries were terrific. That being said, there was too much batter applied to the fish for my palate. I had to peel off the crust and ate the fish by dipping it in the aioli. The staff was very friendly, and I believe one of the owners was assisting with taking orders. The change in ownership and theme of the business have been positive for this neighborhood corner so kudos to Happy Medium.

Yelp
On a whim, I brought my friends to try Happy Medium--their decor and blistering crowd really attracted me--and we got lucky and snagged a table. They do get filled up pretty quick, even the bar is crowded. The servers were all so sweet in helping us grab the next open table and our food orders came out in less than 10 minutes. Honestly the food is top tier. Crowd pleaser is the fried cheese curds and ranch!!! The mushroom toast and chicken Milanese sandwich we shared too and we kept ordering seconds. I will say the slushees were the only disappointment because they were really small and served in kids cups? Very confusing, I was expecting a big glass and something more to the drink.

Yelp
Blew my expectations out of the water. While they do have a few fried items to check the greasy bar food box, they have some amazing dishes that seem healthy like a couple nice salads. There are plenty of vegetarian options, including one of my favorite dishes of the night, mushroom toast (even better than the non veg items). Although the meat and cheese board was off the hook with real honey and a really good fig jam and quality goat cheese balls, among other things. The drinks were great. It was fun to watch the bartender shake the shaker as she made drinks with care. The large ice and impressive garnishes are also noteworthy. The staff was really nice. My server was genuinely grateful for the tip I left. They brought waters to make sure we were hydrated. This is not a dive bar... the food came with real forks on real plates. The walls roll up to let the fresh San Diego air in. Patio was dog friendly (and the staff brought pup cones to let them know they were welcome).

Yelp
Came by for a coffee here at North Park when we saw this HAPPY MEDIUM , I checked the Reviews and it has great feedback. Got the Chicken Melenese Sandwich and my wife got the San Diego Fish & Fries. My Melanese was delicious, chicken was tender with a good garlic aioli sauce. We took a couple of pics of our food and drinks, but I'm only posting the food that I ordered and their indoor and outdoor dining and the rest of my wife will post more photos when she reviews this place. Nice Ambiance and outdoor seating are also available.

Yelp
Innovative cocktail menu and definitely a bustling spot on a Friday afternoon. Service was attentive despite being packed. Cons: draft cocktails (couldn't really taste any alcohol and was a little sweet despite the cocktail being Smokey spirit based) Pros: otherwise tasty menu and good vibes/ambiance. I'd come back and try some other items when it's not as busy.

Yelp
I was excited to try Happy Medium and wasn't disappointed. It was very packed, parking was extremely limited but the service was fast and the drinks were delicious. It's very clean and minimalist. They had a great menu selection, and I think almost anyone could find something! Highly recommend Happy Medium!

Yelp
This place only opens a few weeks ago but it is very busy! The bar is very long and narrow so it can get really hard to move around but luckily there are tables and a small patio space also. The service was great, they were very friendly and super helpful with the menu to figure out what we thought was the best flavors for us. I would say the menu is really cool and the descriptions sound great but I don't feel like some of the cocktails held up to the actual descriptions on the menu. They are draft cocktails so they are made in large batches but that shouldn't mean they don't taste as good. We got: - 99 problems: which the server said tasted exactly like a Thai tea but we felt like it definitely missed. - cactus cooler: this one was delicious and tasted like a spicy margarita - the slushees were super good!! We got the Orange Julius one that tasted like a creamsicle! Overall, drinks are decent but some missed the mark for sure.

Yelp
Small place right on the corner. Parking SUCKS, but it's North Park and you know that already. Friendly service, kick back, casual atmosphere and they have HAPPY HOUR!!! Food is great and they have decent size portions. Drinks are all pre batched, which is a bit annoying, but extremely efficient. Come early, as place gets packed and super busy during prime time. Enjoy

Yelp
It seems like there's pot holes that stay open longer than new restaurants in North Park. But Happy Medium? They're serving up dishes so good, you'll forget the existential dread caused by circling the block for 20 minutes to find decent parking. My partner got the chopped cheese (no orange drink) she kindly let me have a bite or 4. While it's guaranteed to make a mess (much like my 20's) it was delicious and would definitely get next time we go back. And the sauce it comes with is *chefs kiss*- enough to lick the ramekin (decorum prevailed, thankfully). Service is solid, unlike gen z's parallel parking skills. Skip the door dash delivery and the restaurant roulette of despair with your partner. This place is worth the parking brawl.

Yelp
NORTH PARK'S VERSION OF A MODERN CHEERS (3.8 star) It's definitely a place where "everybody knows your name" filled with M/Zillenials. It's a locals bar and it was like walking into a place of a 2-degree separation inside. So and so knows so and so and they hang out here. - FOOD/DRINKS: average - PRICE: fair - SERVICE: happy friendly staff - AMBIANCE: chill vibes open concept The best part were the happy and friendly staff. Very welcoming and kind! Makes the place a chill spot. :: ORDER :: LAZY SUZAN ($12) - Rum. Suze. Melon. Lemon. Soda. Celery bitters. Not my first choice of drink but picked it because first choice had caffeine in it. It was refreshing with very subtle taste of melon with a herbally taste of lemon and celery. I could taste the celery bitters and although it was bugging, I could tell I wasn't into it. The strength of my cocktail was nice, empty stomach and light weight therefore gave me a quick buzz I needed to feel after a long day. RECOMMEND CHOPPED CHEESE ($16) - chopped beef patty. Melted onion & American cheese. Shredded iceberg. Tomato. House sauce. First and foremost, if you are "LACTOSE-Y" this option might not be the best for you without a Lactaid. This is the newer item on the menu I didn't see before when reviewing their menu. I saw a picture saying it was like in-and-out cheese steak... ahh not quite! NO... it's not "cheese burger egg rolls" (LOL employee said when I was videoing my food). Far from an egg roll. YES... to the cheese steak style but NO.. to in-and-out taste. It tasted more like a Big Mac without the good sauce, a Big Mac with something or some flavor missing. It came cut in half but no side (if you want fries you can order it separately although there is no mention of sides on the menu nor have this option printed anywhere). It's hearty and messy to eat but perfect if you are craving a very melty, cheesy, and moist burger. The bun was pillowy soft which made me feel like this lacked texture diversity. I wish there was a free side or crunchy pickles or something added in for a different texture. The taste was OK but nothing amazing where I'm rushing back for more. I'd probs prefer in and out and get a full meal with a shake for half the price of this sandwich but that's just me. However I could see this becoming a popular meal here because it is different, you don't see a chopped up burger in a cheese steak bun too often. RECOMMEND I will be back to try a sushy drink and some corn dogs next time! Until the next review...

Yelp
A cute little spot in NP- not sure if the servers are friendly to be honest, they acted a little arrogant. Food was not bad but wasn't amazing. I heard so many good things about this place and finally got to try only to be disappointed Probably won't be going here next time even if I'm in NP.

Yelp
While we were getting our coffee, I noticed that there was a new Bar accross the street where we at. We went to check them out and it looks okay, so we decided to stay for lunch. We decided to have: *CHICKEN MILANESE SANDWICH - Lemon Aioli, arugula, red onion, and shaved parm. *SAN DIEGO FISH & CHIPS - Citrus brined snapper, pickled jalapeno, aioli, and fries. *CACTUS COOLER - Chile vodka, tequila, cactus cooler, and lime The CHICKEN MILANESE SANDWICH looked big when it came out. The chicken was well seasoned and the Aioli went really well with the chicken milanese, this was so good. For the SAN DIEGO FISH & CHIPS, it's a Citrus brined Snapper. Again, it came out in a good portion. The Fries on this were so crispy and seasoned well. The battered fish was crunchy and tasty. The fish was cooked nicely. My drink was very light in Alcohol, but good. The owner himself was the Barista when we were there. The service was on point. Also, this place is very Pet friendly, water bowls for our furry babies are all over. Parking was kinda hard to find around , thats the only part that i didn't like , it took us a couple of round to find a parking spot .

Yelp
Nice little place with full bar service. Their food menu look great and will be back to try their food. I got the super grass cocktail which has lemon grass, mezcal, lime, mango pandan. Really flavorful in taste and strong. Service here is great and friendly.

Yelp
a great add to the neighborhood, happy medium brings a cheerful and open air atmosphere and great drinks. their menu looks delicious, we had the bone marrow and it was meaty and flavorful. everyone was so friendly and the drinks came quick with a strong pour. excited to come back again and check out their upcoming menu additions

Yelp
Food and drinks and Happy Medium exceeded expectations. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed. We were able to get seats at the bar after waiting a few minutes. I love the aesthetic. It's clean and simple. Despite how busy they were, service was still really good. We tried the chopped cheese and chicken Milanese. Both were phenomenal--definitely superior to your typical bar food. For drinks, we went with the large marg and super grass. Both were great. Looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
This place is doing SO well for only having opened a short while ago. It's in a prime location in North Park and we went on a Friday night and it was completely packed. It's right on the corner so it's easy to find but super loud if you're sitting outside. Parking is tough - I recommend the structure on 30th just south of University Ave. Anyways, the food and drinks here were really really good. We got the corn dogs and the chicken milanese sandwich. The breading on the corn dogs wasn't as crunchy as a traditional one but you can tell this is the elevated version. This one has higher quality ingredients for sure, and the honey mustard mixed with spicy ketchup is SO GOOD. The sandwich was also delish, the fresh arugula makes it. Super friendly staff and everything came out pretty quick. Definitely add it to your list for places to try in San Diego!

Yelp
Happy Medium is a welcomed addition to the bar scene, especially on bustling occasions like St. Patrick's Day. While I didn't sample their food, the drinks were certainly the highlight of the evening. Bartender Jesse's charisma and attentiveness elevated the experience, as he expertly crafted delicious cocktails and provided insightful recommendations to our group despite the bustling atmosphere. Happy Medium certainly lives up to its name, striking the perfect balance between a vibrant ambiance and exceptional service. I'll definitely be back to try the food!

Yelp
I was in North Park around dinner time, and I went into Happy Medium. I think High End or Awesome Medium would be a better name for the bar/restaurant. The drink I had was outstanding, Blue Negroni. I had a few Negronis when in Italy, and I love this play on the drink, it is delivered looking like the cool blue Pacific Ocean, but with a kick. I had the Corns Dog, definitely not like the frozen corn dogs you had as a kid, delicious with honey mustard and spicy ketchup. Then I had the Meat N Cheese Board. It was a great blend of meats, a few cheeses, olives, honey and fig jam. A lot of charcuterie boards don't have enough bread, but there was ample bread toast.

Yelp
Yummy drinks! So we came here on a Friday literally 5 minutes after they opened and there were already quite a few folks there. By the time we left, about an hour later it was packed and standing room only. Everyone was so friendly! We sat at the bar and had a drink. I had the large marg and my husband got the 99 problem. The large marg was really refreshing. My husband liked his drink too. We did not have any food but next time def will try some bites. It really was a happy medium.....

Yelp
Stumbling into Happy Medium in North Park feels like unearthing a hidden treasure, the kind you'd rather keep to yourself but can't help but share. It's a place that doesn't try too hard, and maybe that's its secret. You're immediately hit with an ambiance that's as inviting as an old friend's embrace, an eclectic mix of patrons all here for the same reason - to find that perfect balance between the day's stresses and the night's promises. Now, let's talk about a revelation - the "99 Problems" cocktail. It's not just a clever name, but a concoction that promises an escape with every sip. It's like the bartender has a PhD in fixing your day, blending ingredients you wouldn't think to combine, but can't believe you've lived without. It's a cocktail that speaks volumes, telling you that no matter the weight of your 99 problems, in this glass, you'll find none. The staff at Happy Medium? They're the heart and soul of the place. It's as if they were all born with an innate ability to know exactly when you need a refill or just a word to lift your spirits. They navigate the space with a balletic grace, always present but never intrusive, making every patron feel like the most important person in the room. Happy Medium is more than just a bar in North Park. It's a sanctuary for those in search of good drinks, better company, and the best of nights. It's a reminder that, in the right place, with the right drink, you can find a happy medium in life, even if it's just for an evening. And for that, it gets my highest commendation. The 99 Problems isn't just "really good," it's a masterpiece in a glass, a remedy concocted with such skill that it would make even the most seasoned drink aficionado pause in respect.

Yelp
Wife and I stopped in right at 4 when they opened. It was already getting busy. We sat at the bar and. Christian immediately introduced him self and helped us right away. I ordered the 99 problems and my wife had the large marg. Their menu drinks are served from the tap, which is efficient and I'm sure economical but the drinks were great. We didn't have food but will be back to give the kitchen a try. Before 5, the place was packed but service was on point. Entire place isn't large but it still felt roomy at the bar. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Got to check out the newest bar on the block! The drink are pretty affordable and yummy. I got the JUICE IS LOOSE!!!!! tequila slushie and it was on the sweeter side but so good. For food, I got the fish and chips (the fish was HUGE), and my friend got the mushroom toast (good, but on the smaller side). What stood out to me was the service! The bar and wait staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. Would come back here again!

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place! Decided to stop by the other night for a drink for the first time and I'm so glad I did. They have great drink options, I really couldn't decide and one of the bartenders gave me his rec of the cactus cooler which was very refreshing!! I was so tempted to try the espresso martini and the 99 problems (with in-house made Thai tea!!!) but it was a little late and I didn't want to be up all night, but will definitely be back to try!! The bartenders I interacted with were extremely friendly and attentive. The food options looked good as well. I highly recommend coming for a drink or two, you will not regret it!!

Yelp
Ok the service here is wonderful! Drinks come out fast and strong! Be sure to order their frozen drinks for a souvenir surprise lol!

Yelp
I enjoyed myself, but I agree with some of the review that the drinks are hit or miss. The bar was packed at 7pm on a Thursday, but while the service wasn't super attentive, it was understandable and they were friendly. The food we got was delicious - mushroom toast and chicken milanese. The orange jewels slushee and the supergrass were worth reordering, but I was disappointed with the 99 problems. I was expecting Thai tea and I'm not sure what I got.

Had the falafel plate and the kale salad. Both were top notch! Great outdoor ambiance too.

Yelp
So we couldn't wait to try Happy Medium, which had opened up only a week ago... Christian's our favorite owner/bartender ever, and we've been a huge fan/friend of his for years dating back to his days at Nobel Experiment. We finally got a chance to come in and get a drink on an early Thursday afternoon, and it was PACKED! Good for Happy Medium, but we couldn't belly up to the bar as we're usually accustomed to, as all their barstools were occupied. It's okay because Dana served us at one of their indoor high top tables and she was great! We ended up sharing their Chicken Milanese Sandwich & fries, which was outstanding by the way!!! For drinks, I got the Ward 8 (a Christian Siglin creation and a refreshing take on the TANG! orange drink everyone's familiar with), my wife ordered their High Fashioned (which she also loved by the way). Our food was served fresh, hot, and without delay. Service was excellent, especially for only being opened a week prior. Ambiance was a cool, trendy, hip and a neighborly-like bar with both great drinks and great food! We heard that they're adding a sandwich shop next door which will allow them to serve up even more delicious food items shortly to go with your drinks. Stay tuned... We also ordered a Chopped Cheese Sandwich to-go since we had plans shortly after our quick visit. Per the owner, all is good and they're thrilled to finally be open! We loved it, and can't wait to come back! It's a 5+ out of 5 for us!

Yelp
I had the San Diego fish and fries. The other two entrees were sandwiches that looked a little overbuilt so I went with a classic. Nothing special, just your typical greasy fish and chips. Although I will say the fish to batter ratio was high, so that's good. Otherwise yeah, just fish and chips. Will have to try something more unique next time to really get a feel for the place.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to eat and drink here. Sorry, very disappointed in the food as both our meals were gross. I ordered the Chopped cheese with extra cheese and it came out with barely any cheese. So the Yelp photos looked like it has a lot of cheese? Something about the meat was off too? My friends ordered the Roast Beef Dip and it looked and tasted kind of like dog meat in my opinion. Needless to say we gave it away to some homeless people. Might go back if any of my friends want to go. The staff was very nice but I didn't send the food back as it was just not worth it. Maybe the Kitchen staff had an off night?

Yelp
The Thai tea cocktail was DELISH!!! The tang whiskey drink was OK. Can't wait to go back and try the slushee on a hot day!! Oh also- if you get sensory overload easily- this is not the bar for you! Jam packed with people, cars passing by in all directions, dogs everywhere. Other than that a definite must try for the NP locals! The service was lovely. The food is decent. The falafel is an excellent vegetarian dish but could use more salt. The cheese curds are delicious but beware of a tummy ache!! The chopped cheese sandwhich was awesome to prepare for a night of drinking.

Yelp
Wish I had a picture to lively up the review! Service was great despite being packed on a Saturday Afternoon. It is small in there but there's an outside seating area which adds some space and it was a great vibe. Shoutout to Dana our server who was so on top of it and always made sure we were taken care of!! Fish and Fries - So good. Fries were crispy, fish was perfectly cooked and they used red snapper which added to the flavor nicely. Chopped Cheese - I've never had one so I have nothing to compare it to but it was delicious. Basically like a chopped cheeseburger and the house sauce in there Loved the cheese curds and house salad as well. I don't drink beer but they have a good selection. Their cocktail with cactus cooler was refreshing and will definitely have it again. 10/10 would recommmend!!

Yelp
It was St Patty's Day so it was super busy, but the staff were still very on top of my orders and checking in with me frequently. The Cactus Cooler cocktail was great and refreshing with a small hint of a Tajin taste to it. I got the Chicken Milanese Sandwich was amazing and flavorful. I got mine with grilled chicken instead of fried.

Yelp
Looks are deserving. Don't order the kale salad unless all you want is a plate of kale. Not much on the menu. One and done

Yelp
Love this new spot! Delicious and fun cocktails plus the food is incredible and all of the staff I interacted with were all so nice and accommodating. Some of my favs, Ward 8, Cactus Cooler, Cheese Curds and Milanese Chicken Sandwich. Ready to go back immediately.

Yelp
Been back a few times since my very first visit and can confirm that this place is incredible when it's not packed to the rim. This is the most California statement I've ever made but the kale casear salad with their falafel is literally the best girl dinner a gal can ask for. The lemon grass mezcal in the Super Grass is 1000/10. Jessa has been my bartender/server a few times and she's just a gem.

Yelp
Casual and vibrant atmosphere, super friendly staff, and the menu is so fun! I had a charging issue the last time I was here and I emailed the manager to explain what happened. Lauren was super responsive and worked to get my issue fixed with a genuine and kind attitude. Will be back again!

Yelp
Taking away one star because the night we went the music was spotty so it would go in & out. I got the ward 8 based off of my dad's love for Tang! It was really good although I wished there was more tang powder on the rim to add to the citrus flavor of the cocktail. I did try the drink that's listed as tasting like a Thai tea and I give it a zero; I had to send it back because it tasted so strong of banana I'm not sure what remnant of Thai tea it's supposed to taste like lol the place is very small with waist high bar seating for maybe like 9 people so everyone ordering drinks is pretty much directly over your shoulder so that was a bit annoying at times. Other than that the bartenders were great; they did have an issue with their handheld card readers so I had to use a different form of payment a hassle but not worth a complaint! I'm sure once they work out their audio links it'll be a great place to grab a drink.

Yelp
Came in for the first time since they've opened. McLain was out bartender. Jay, not sure what his job description is - but this man is hustling. I see him running around, helping out. Dropping off food. Cleaning tables. This man deserves a gold star and some recognition!!! Don't let me take away from the rest of the crew. Because everyone was working hard!!! This was a smooth transition, everyone had a job. Everyone knew what they were doing, and they were busy! Got checked in by a couple different people. They're are super accommodating, and have great customer service. The place isn't huge - there's bar sitting, outside / inside tables and a standing section. The place is loud!!! but not super hard to hear if you don't mind the noise. The food is so good. The falafels are a MUST TRY!!!! And they're GF! Check this place out when you have a chance. It will not disappoint. Thank you crew for the environment and great service!
