Harold’s New York Deli has always been a special place, and with Harold’s recent passing, I sincerely hope the restaurant continues to thrive for many years to come. During our visit, we ordered the hot pastrami and tongue combo sandwich on rye, which came with a side of cole slaw — absolutely perfect. We also enjoyed a potato knish that was massive and satisfying, as well as delicious kasha varnishkes that tasted just like homemade comfort food. The hot open brisket, paired with a generous side of French fries, was tender and flavorful. Every dish was phenomenal, and the portions were enormous — true to Harold’s legendary reputation. Our party of four left completely stuffed, with enough leftovers to enjoy several more meals at home. On top of the incredible food, the waitstaff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome throughout our meal. Harold’s remains a true gem of a restaurant. I’m grateful for the memories we made there and hopeful it continues to serve its amazing food for another 50 years and beyond.

For over 20 years, this casual spot has never disappointed with massive portions that could feed a giant. Their Corned Beef and Pastrami sandwiches that can feed 4 or more adults come in a huge pile of high quality meat with good coleslaw and a stack of seeded/unseeded rye bread. Then one slice of their rich and delicious Chocolate Fudge Cake can feed at least 6 adults. Their included pickle bar is a nice touch with several yummy breads, pickled veggies, and several classic pickles. While their dill pickles have a bit of a medicinal taste, I highly recommend the Hot and Sweet Pickles. Come hungry, leave happy! NOTES/TIPS: **Plenty of parking in their own lot. **Does not take reservations. **You can ask for fatty or less fatty pastrami. **Kids' menu options. Their Mac-and-Cheese, fries, and veggies arrive unseasoned. S&P are on the table.

Fantastic spot. We were seating right away when we arrived at 5pm on a Saturday. We all ordered junior sandwiches and each one would have been enough for 2 people to share. Star of the evening was our amazing server Cherry Anne, who was so lovely and attentive. Highly Recommend!!

Google
Best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. Chicks soup was great. Pastrami is amazing. Hot FF also a winner. Pickle bar looked great. Clean restaurant and restrooms. Little off the beaten path but is a local treasure. I’ll be back soon!

This is a very good delicatessen. The pastrami and turkey were excellent. The amount served could have fed a whole army! The red velvet cake was ENORMOUS and delicious!!

This place really aim for 'bigger is better'. Every dish is huge - but shareable. The meats are tasty and well prepared and service is fast. Note: They do not serve any alcoholic beverages.

Google
Old time Corned Beef & Pastrami served several ways mixed with other Jewish Deli greats!! Super sized portions made to order feeding your entire family with just a couple of items from menu!! This is a place where you want to come hungry & guaranteed you'll leave stuffed & with to go containers!! And good luck trying to save room for Amazing Desserts! *Went back for Corned Beef Sandwich which was shared by 4 of us & we took home a slice of Carrot Cake which was Phenomenal!!

Google
Was told to try this, as it rivals any NYC Jewish style deli. Boy, they were not wrong. Ate dinner one night and breakfast the next morning. The dinner was great! Some of if not the best pastrami I've ever had. Large portion, great rye, and the hot mustard. Pickles bar was a plus. Breakfast wasn't the best, should of stuck to a reg. NJ diner. If you're ever near this place, gotta grab one of the GINORMOUS SANDWICHES.

Top shelf quality! Fast prompt service with a smile. The cake diplay is amazing. Worth the drive.

Yelp
Harold's New York Deli is tucked away in the middle of nowhere, connected to an abandoned hotel, which is probably why I've missed out on this place for years. But after hearing some buzz, my friends and I decided to check it out and see if it could live up to the legendary Katz Delicatessen in NYC. We arrived around 1:30 pm on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was buzzing. There was a 15-minute wait, but honestly, it felt much shorter. The portions here are absolutely massive. Everything on the menu is meant to feed at least 3 people, and some dishes even serve 8-10! We were a group of four and, looking back, we wished we had brought a few more hungry bellies with us. One person ordered a pancake, and I swear it was the size of a pizza pie! We decided to share a large hot pastrami sandwich along with the fries & onion ring combo. The large size also comes with 8 extra slices of rye bread, so it's definitely a family-style experience. And let me tell you, the pastrami did not disappoint. It was sliced thin, with just the right amount of fatty pieces, tender, and juicy enough that the flavors soaked right into the rye bread. Absolutely mouthwatering. One of the coolest features of the place is their pickle bar. They've got all kinds of pickles--whole, spears, chips, sweet, sour--there's something for everyone. If you want to take some home, though, there is an extra charge, but it's worth it if you're a pickle lover. With tax and tip, our total came out to about $100 for four people, so about $25 per person. We were all stuffed and still had leftovers, which makes it an incredible value. Honestly, I think Harold's is just as good as Katz, and now we don't have to worry about paying for gas and tolls to get our pastrami fix. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
If I could give them 100 stars I would , this place is amazing . Jut attended the Edison Furniture Market and my co workers made me so happy by changing all there plans to let me return to this place of total culinary ecstasy. Where do I begin first we started with the famous pickle bar with all kinds of goodies including an amazing coleslaw then followed by the largest plate of onion rings with French fries that were incredible . Then followed by a plate of stuffed cabbage that I really didn't want to share with anyone , what a dish I would come back just for that by myself . We then ordered the biggest sandwich of our lives , a combination of corned beef and pastrami that actually feed 8 of us and still had leftovers !!!!! No room for dessert Must have Guy Fietti from Diners Drives & Dives with me in the audience :)))))))

Yelp
I have been to Harold's a number of times but not since the pandemic. I was so excited that they had reopened the pickle bar. So when my friends wanted a true Jewish deli experience instead of taking them to the local deli 5 minutes away I drive them an hour to get to Harold's. We were seated right away, our server was friendly and answered their questions. She was kind enough to get them a sample taste of the corn beef and pastrami. They were shocked by the size of the cakes in the cases when you first walked in. A picture of them vs. seeing them in person, there is no comparison. The pickle bar was smaller and no longer had the extra rye bread on it but still had a good selection to pick from. The steak French fries were crispy and delicious. The potato knish, which I was concerned over the size might not have the flavor needed to get a good tasting met its mark. The sandwiches which came with extra bread were a decent size were nothing compared to how big I recall them being. I felt the prices went up and the sizes came down. The rice pudding was hands down excellent!! Some of the best I have had. Overall they had an amazing experience, we had a wonderful lunch and enjoyed our afternoon. Harold's is something to see but be prepared to spend a lot of lunch.

Yelp
The pastrami and brisket were outstanding but...I've been coming here for years and while the sandwich looks large the portion is much less than it used to be. We ordered the 2 meat combo and usually have a lot leftover. Not this time. They also charged us for the items we took home from the pickle bar. I understand wanting to discourage people from stocking their home fridge with pickles, etc but we brought 2 tiny muffins home and were charged. That felt shady. For what we got, the value just wasn't there. That being said, the pastrami and brisket were delicious. Tender, juicy, flavorful and not salty. The potato knish was savory and perfect. So the food is great, the service was excellent: very attentive and anticipatory. The place still holds that nostalgic, Jewish deli feel. Parking is plentiful but if you're coming, have deep pockets.

Yelp
So lucky to try this Jewish institution out! But come with big pocketbooks and realize you are paying not just for the food, but the novelty of overly sized portions (for the most part). So lucky we had a friend who was willing to drive an hour to go here. We were forewarned that portions were going to be huge, and knew it would be pricey. I loved my pastrami sandwich - $27. I was able to finish half there, and the other half I split into two smaller sandwiches for lunches. The cheesecake was good - $25. Surprised they didn't have the buttered noodle dish I thought was a Jewish deli staple. Friend ordered rice pudding, but didn't think it was worth the $16 price tag. Potato knish - again, quite good, but its size didn't warrant $22. Side of thick steak fries for $17. Server was very patient with us.

Yelp
Wow, I really wanted a great pastrami reuben, and this just did not hit. I frequently pastrami sandwiches in NYC, I haven't had one this bad at any deli in NYC that I've been to all year. On top of that these sandwiches are not cheap, my pastrami reuben, a junior (which is still quite large), was like $44. It fed us alright, but the pastrami wasn't flavorful, the cheese was very meh, and the russian was too sweet. It was not a great pastrami reuben, especially at that price point. What worried me more than all that though was the mustard, it tasted like horseradish had been mixed int to the mustard, which was a take. Even 2nd ave deli without having cheese has better mustard and pastrami. Would rather do a regular hot pastrami there, than a reuben here. While I love being able to always get a Pastrami sandwich, I won't be coming here again. Worth it to dine in NYC and get a good sandwich.

Yelp
Bring plenty of money and loosen your belt. Came with friends for a Saturday lunch. Plenty of parking available and bathroom is recently renovated. Loved the pickle bar but make sure you leave room for your huge sandwich. I ordered a junior roast beef sandwich, medium. A little dry for my taste. We ordered a few dishes, plenty to share.

Yelp
The hostess and owner were very rude to my wife and I upon entering, thought I was in Times Square NYC. The corned beef junior was very good their homemade coleslaw 5 stars. The waitress was 5 stars, not her fault! The casual ambience was very pleasant but it doesn't make up for the unprofessional attitude toward us. My wife and I were dating almost 40 years ago the last time we were here. We were nearby and a last minute decision to go again. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Yelp
A huge place, very busy. but big parking lot, plenty of seating, and we got seated right away. service was quick and friendly, and our order was ready right away. Totally worth a visit. Listen, Harold's hardly needs my help to be successful. It's already a well established icon to locals and even travelers. Their fantastic food, epic portions, and incredible selection of New York / New Jersey favorites has them worthy of the deli hall of fame, if there is such a thing! Whatever reason you're nearby, make time to stop in. You'll be eating leftovers almost as long as you'll be telling stories!

Yelp
Love love love Harold's! I've been coming to Harold's for years and there hasn't been one item that was bad. I've had their breakfasts which was huge and my favorite, "Bacon!" Lunch is always hot sandwiches, pastrami, corned beef and brisket, you can't go wrong. I haven't found a better place than this! Bring your appetite, family/friends and your wallet because the platters are huge! All shareable. Everyone leaves with a paper bag full of leftovers. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This spot was very cool! I loved the size of the space as well as the homey feel. All the waiters and waitresses were so kind and friendly to us. It was definitely memorable. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was delicious and also a TON of food. Like a ridiculous amount hahah. Definitely a great place to go with a family or a ton of friends to share a bunch of food. I also got a red velvet slice of cake that was so big that it came in a standard CAKE BOX - like a box that normally would hold an entire cake. I took the cake home and shared it with my entire family (like 4-5 people helped finish it off).

Yelp
If you've ever dreamed of a sandwich that could double as a pillow, Harold's New York Deli is your new best friend. The pastrami and corned beef here is so thick, it could probably carry a second job as a doorstop. Each bite is a tender, smoky slap of flavor that makes you question every other sandwich you've ever eaten. With portions so massive you'll need a second stomach (and a nap), this place delivers both flavor and food coma. If you're ready to eat like royalty and still have leftovers for days, Harold's is your spot. Just bring stretchy pants and a hearty appetite! The service is quick and fast and even though the line may seem that it's long, trust me it moves quickly. Diner ambiance with the New York hustle.

Yelp
Harold's is more than a restaurant, it's an experience. Just walking past other tables seeing the different dishes being served is astounding. The food is fresh and delicious. Do yourself a favor and try Harold's today.

Yelp
I had lunch at Harold's during the week. The restaurant is iconic in Edison and the hot pastrami sandwich is the best I ever had. The pastrami almost melted in your mouth. We had a taste of the red velvet cake for dessert and it was moist and filling. The service is good and the restaurant definitely takes you back a good 40 years in time. We enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
Portions are gigantic and prices to match. Do not be frightened. Stopped for a quick breakfast and ended up sharing a side order of pastrami hash for $40. It fed two adults with leftovers. Pickle bar is also fantastic. Definitely come with people you are willing to share with. Our server was very kind and guided us through.

Yelp
We met my brother and sister-in-law here for my BIL's birthday per their suggestion--I'm always up for a good deli! But other than quantity, this food seemed pretty ordinary to me. The prices are so stratospheric that it's like being in a different, really expensive country! Our orders were taken immediately and our server did a great job of explaining everything. So far, so good. So we went to the pickle bar, which featured a few varieties of pickles; truly a paltry selection compared to any other pickle bar I've ever seen. We figured we could nosh on these while waiting for our orders. But upon our return a few minutes later, we were rather shocked to see all our food already at the table! Since the table was so small, we immediately had to set our pickles aside and divert our focus to devouring our hot entrees. I had my heart set on roast beef but they didn't offer that so I ordered a simple breakfast plate: eggs over easy with home fries and Taylor ham, accompanied by their 32 oz. milkshake! The eggs were decent but the home fries were extremely soggy--essentially inedible. I actually had to ask for some preserves for the toast, but all I got was some cheap grape jelly. The massive black-and-white milkshake looked dreamy but had way too much "vanilla" syrup in it, making it extremely sweet, so I wasn't able to finish it. Literally everyone else at the table ordered corned beef or pastrami and were all happy with it. In a way it's like Katz's deli in NYC except there's no roast beef. So it's really only worth going if everyone likes either corned beef or pastrami.
google avatar

Angelo B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the pastrami here. Really soft and tender. Not overly salty. As other reviews mentioned, the portions were huge. I had read reviews so came prepared...we had a party of 5 (none of whom were overly hungry), and requested a large size to share. The waiter was reluctant to do this so basically convinced us to get XL. This was way too much food... could have easily fed 8 hungry guys. Large would have been perfect. Its actually a large place with a lot of seating. Easy to get a table on a weekday lunch. I will definitely return, but get to go next time (so dont get pressured to over order).

Yelp
The sandwich, WOW! Harold's was recommended by a friend while I was visiting the area for work. I tried the whole pastrami sandwich and it was MASSIVE. I'm a big eater and I didn't finish it. We can't get anything like this back home, it was such a treat. The pickle bar was awesome, and included with the sandwich meal (not that you could possibly want more food). The restaurant is very large, and pretty classic/old school. Staff were super friendly. They were quick, no wait, very east coast hospitable. Come try Harold's if you're in the area!

Yelp
Whole needs KATZ when Harold is just as good ! You don't have to trek over the Hudson River to NYC to get an authentic , classic Reuben ! Just trek down the GSP to Edison . These sandwiches are EPIC . Ps so are the prices . But we are talking about quality Pastrami here ! The generous portion help ease the sting of the cost . The pickle bar ( yes there is such a thing ) is included in the cost . My server was attentive . I went after the lunch crowd on a monday . seems to be a huge sports fan hot stop . i was way to full to look at those dessert menu . The ambience is classic Jersey diner meets classic sandwich shop . ( yes, that was a thing in the past )
google avatar

Yelp
This location has zero curb appeal. But the portions are staggering large. We enjoyed the pickle bar, especially the spicy pickles. But the rest of our food was very bland. Not worth the very high proces ($26 for a large but flavorless cheeseburger!). We don't have any plans to return.
google avatar

Yelp
A meal of epic proportions, literally! Harold's deli is everything a diner should be multiplied by 3! From a long heritage of delicious delicatessens, Harold's should be on all foodies lists of must visits. You simply must have the pastrami and visit the pickle bar. You'll never have room for dessert but they're amazing also. Bring your family and appetite.

Ad D.

Yelp
I ordered a Pastrami sandwich. It was good and plentiful. Make you go hungry. The Portions are huge.

Yelp
Godsons birthday Saturday and he wanted Harold's. Place was packed when we arrived at 6. Waited a few and then sat. The waitress let us know it would be a few mins and to help ourselves to the pickle bar. All different varieties of pickles. Only sad thing is they no longer stack the extra bread there. Potato pancake was fantastic and we have the fries also. Wife and I went for the medium roast beef which came out great. My godson wanted corned beef and was loving in and in meat heaven. Too full for dessert

Yelp
The pickle bar is legendary and if you're from NJ you've been here. Best with a group this spot is awesome! Now my parents were the deli fans but it was delicious. Ordered Matziball soup Pastrami Brisket Roast beef Potato pancake Lox & eggs Fries Cole slaw Standouts; The matzo ball soup is the mother of all matzoh ball soups. Big full of veggies pure comfort. The health salad at the pickle bar, that's ehat my mom called it was outstanding and the pickle bar was sooo fun. Great deli fries and yummy coleslaw & pastrami was awesome!!! Fun!!!
google avatar

Deborah W.

Yelp
The food at Harold's is so overwhelming because the portions are so large, but so delicious. The corn beef is sliced thin and lean and the pastrami the same, but the seasoning is so different. Both remind me of when I was a kid. The fries are typical, BUT, their salad bar has a variety of pickles, green tomatoes, cabbage salad, corn bread and tools, as well as sauerkraut. You take what you want snd if need be, you can go up for more. The service is always very pleasant. Our waitress was May and she was very helpful. The ambiance is very deli style, but if you want you can sit not far from the kitchen and see what's "cooking."

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place while visiting New Jersey and WOW, I love oversized pastrami and corned beef sandwiches. Unfortunately where I live in NYC all of these type of places have become tourist traps with high prices and small sandwiches, well not this place. Harolds NY deli is the bomb, I mean some of the best sandwiches I have had in many, many years. Don't let the prices on the menu fool you, the amount of meat is like 4-6 sandwiches compared to Katz's or pastrami Queen in nyc. The quality of the meat is high quality, soft, juicy and addictive, I find myself constantly making excuses to visit Edison NJ to get my pastrami and corned beef fix. They have a huge pickle bar that offers a variety of pickles, tomatoes and health salad, all you can eat at that. So many places in NY charge you for these things after you have already spent $40 for a tiny sandwich that has no meat on the ends of it. Well not at Harolds, everything is huge here, even the single portion sandwich is at least the equivalent of 2 sandwiches or more anywhere else. The motzaball soup is one huge ball with a half gallon of broth, enough to feed 4-6 people. I really wish they had a smaller portion, but I'm ok to take home the rest along with the other 3/4 of my leftover sandwich and enjoy it for days after. Btw they give you a half of loaf of rye bread so you can make the one sandwich into many more afterwards. The only bad thing I could say is why don't you have a NYC location, but let me tell you it's well worth the drive, tolls and congestion fee to come here and get something that you can't find anywhere else. The dining room is huge and always pretty full, but somehow there is always room and there is little to no wait, the service is excellent and the people that work here are very nice. They open very early in the morning and it appears the full menu is always available. Do yourself a favor and get in your car, take the train, bus or a cab and try Harolds NY deli, I promise you it will be well worth it. I'm very picky about my food and I would not steer you wrong.

Yelp
Harold's New York Deli is nothing short of a legendary dining experience! From the moment you walk in, you're transported to a classic deli setting with an impressive menu that reflects the true essence of New York-style cuisine. The portions are gigantic, and when I say gigantic, I mean you're getting enough food to share--and still have leftovers! Their sandwiches, stacked high with perfectly cooked meats, are a must-try. The corned beef and pastrami melt in your mouth, and the fresh rye bread adds the perfect touch. Don't even get me started on their famous pickles and coleslaw; they are the real deal, crunchy and full of flavor. The service is friendly, attentive, and quick, even when the restaurant is packed. And for those who love dessert, their towering cakes are works of art--so large they're almost too much to handle (but so delicious you won't mind trying)! Harold's delivers in both quality and quantity, making it a must-visit for anyone who craves an authentic New York deli experience. Whether you're a local or visiting from out of town, this place is a gem. Come hungry, and prepare to be wowed!

Yelp
We came in on Father's Day for lunch around noon. Surprisingly, we didn't have to wait long for a table for 10. I found the service to be curt and efficient without being abrasive. The vibes are immaculate. Entering Harold's you're transported to a different time. It's simple, it's clean, it's good. The pickle bar is incredible; these pickles are something you would pay a premium for at a farmer's market and they're just included. Don't sleep on the pickles. Portions are insane. This isn't usually a downside, but it really limits your ability to try multiple things from the menu. Even the smallest item is easily enough for two people. Be prepared to bring home a lot of leftovers. My recommendation is to stick with the deli items and Jewish/Russian classics. The letdown item for us was the beef ribs and BBQ chicken combo. Just a little bland and dry. Complete opposite story for the pastrami, corned beef, pancakes, soups - fresh, well seasoned, and perfectly textured. Cannot go wrong with these. Pro tip - when your 10 year old begs you for "their own milkshake" just say no. The milkshakes are all child sized - that is, they're the same volume of a small child if you liquified them.

Yelp
Went with 11 friends for our annual ugly sweater lunch. We all shared an order of potato pancake, knish, kreplach and went with the massive sandwich of pastrami, brisket and corned beef which is supposed to be enough for up to 12 but almost all of us wound up taking home. We also got great sides and condiments from the bar and all of this with tax and tip only came out to $33 per person! One of the best deals for a delicious lunch with leftovers. A true culinary staple.

Yelp
We've been coming here for over a decade. Last two visits were disappointing. Everything was good, except for the hot pastrami. Now it's chewy and dry. The pickles had no flavor. The soups and breads were good. We are sad we no longer like it here. And the menu isn't as varied anymore, either.

Yelp
Windowless spot but if you want deli- it's good. Portions are gargantuan to put it mildly. We ate , we're full and I took home 1/2the filling from my sandwich for tomorrow. We wanted dessert but how do 2 people share a slice of this without going overboard
google avatar

Yelp
Food is plentiful all sorts of different sandwiches as well as hotdogs and knishes so come hungry sandwiches and desserts are huge too.

Yelp
We have been going to Harold's for many years. Good food with extra large portions. All portions are made to be shared.

Yelp
Traveled one hour to experience the pastrami sandwich and wow was it worth it! Definitely some of the best pastrami I have had. The place was packed at 2pm on a Saturday. All the dishes are HUGE! My wife and I shared a Junior sized sandwich that was plenty for two. Ordered a side of fries that could have fed four. They don't mind sharing. Some ordered the larger sandwich to be able to take home. They serve it with the condiments on the side to allow for takeout. The complimentary pickle bar was fantastic. A must try for anyone who enjoys a good Jewish deli.

Yelp
I wanted a Rueben. I real NY Rueben, so we went to Harold's in Edison. It's located in an old Hotel. There was plenty of parking, and the place looked the way I had imagined. Pictures of famous patrons lined the walls along with the local (stinking) sports teams. We ordered a Rueben to share. Now this place is know for huge portions, and they encourage sharing for no additional cost, and it was big, but so was the price tag. It was $67 for the sandwich alone. It was more than most dinners I have gotten in the past few years. It came with the pickle bar, but there weren't any fries or potato salad. It also came with about 6 additional slices of Rye bread and some coleslaw. It was really good, and I enjoyed it very much, but after drinks and a tip, one sandwich and one fountain drink it was $95. I'm not sure it was worth that.... But price aside, it was a delicious sandwitch, and we had enough to take home for dinner also.

Yelp
I love stopping by Harold's when I visit New York. I can't wait to get to the pickle bar and get the sour pickles and also the healthy salad. I do believe the healthy salad has sugar in it but it still taste super good. I ordered a brisket sandwich and it was just perfect. It didn't seem as big as the last time I was in ,but still it was enough for two. I will continue to come back to Harold's. The service is A+ and very attentive. The perfect diner.

Yelp
Can't help but jump on the "Picklegate" bandwagon... Been a long time repeat customer and have to admit I was surprised (spelled a-p-p-a-l-l-e-d) when the new pickle bar "policy" went into effect a few months ago. For those who don't know, Harolds has always had a nice pickle bar (pickles/health salad, etc) that customers are invited to help themselves to. What has changed is now, if you want to include any pickle bar items to your leftover meal that you are taking home, you have to pay for them. My reaction was, "wait, whaaaaaat???"! I get the fact that there are people who take advantage and try to get away with whatever they can, but, this new "policy" was clearly not thought through. There are many ways this problem could have and should have been addressed. Instead its done nothing but piss people off. No one is walking away after being embarrassed and having items taken out of their hands saying, "wow what wonderful experience, what a great idea Harold, can't wait to do this again"! Although I'm sure it won't be done, this new "policy" definitely needs a re-think. 1 Star for Picklegate

Yelp
Deliciousness - 4.5/5 Service - 3.5/5 Do you remember the story of Jack and the Beanstalk? This little kid climbs up a huge plant to a castle in the sky where a giant lives. Everything is super-oversized - a goose that is the same size as Jack and swiss cheese with holes big enough for him to hide in? Going to Harold's is like the good parts of going to a giant's castle. When a tankard (yes... TANKARD) of milkshake and a sandwich the size of your head get delivered to the table, you'll feel like you're a puny human about to enjoy a delectable feast made for a giant! This restaurant does NOT skimp on portions. We ordered a deli meat platter and it not only fed 6 adults and 2 kids, but it also sent home ample leftovers. We also enjoyed the free pickle bar and fried kreplach (basically Jewish version of dumplings) that came with what had to be 2 full onions sauteed to perfection. The desserts also don't skimp. Besides the aforementioned tankards, you also have chest-sized cookies and cake slices that have got to be a foot long each. The deli meat is very good (though not the best you can find in the area, I still happily devoured it). They have a giant (of course) number of breakfast options too. The service is.... prototypical New Jersey. You're rarely checked on and the wait staff seem bothered by any questions. But I personally think that adds to the experience. We also met the Harold the restaurant is named after and he is very personable and sweet - posing for pictures, signing a menu, and giving us a free pizza-sized cookie. I highly recommend you visit.... just make sure to come famished!

Yelp
Had this food at a birthday party and it was delicious. I dont even eat lunch meat, but the turkey was soo good. I also dont eat pastrami or corned beef and the meats were tasty. Adding dressing and cole slaw to the sandwich was chefs kiss. Cant wait to visit the location on my own..

Yelp
Tucked away behind an old hotel this gem of a deli is the best NY deli that's not in NY! The portions are ridiculously huge people so please plan to share and come back again to try something different or just order and bring home more food than you actually sit down and eat. Also have great takeout service for a sandwich to go. Next time I need to try one of these cakes - they must weigh 20 pounds and a slice is larger than most normal cakes alone! Breakfast items are also huge and amazing - this is Taylor Ham country people - but of course come here for the pastrami and corned beef sandwiches!! Can't wait to be back in the area again to try another sandwich.

Yelp
Was looking for good pastrami sandwich close to what I was looking for from Katz and Philly food market. I ordered a medium pastrami sandwich. What I got was not what I saw other peoples posted picture of a medium. I thought mine was kinda small. It was almost $50. The taste was rather not the same as Katz. I was expecting some juicy some fat pastrami. But it was dried and seemed like it was cut for a long time because it arrived rather fast to my table so I think they sliced it before hand so the juices are gone and what I got is a dried tasteless meat. No russian dressing on the rye. Very bland. If it was good like Katz I would come back but the prices are insane!!

Yelp
Harold's is a great place for a family breakfast. You must spilt everything unless you have an extremely large appetite.

Yelp
Family football season staple. A bit pricy but well worth it. The sandwiches taste amazing.

Yelp
Harold's is famous for its New York style deli sandwiches which were huge and delicious. They expect you to have plenty of leftovers to take home. We had three cups of cold borscht soup, one junior brisket sandwich, a large two meat combination sandwich, and a side mashed potato, which I personally thought was totally unnecessary. We had so much leftovers; each of us got another one or two meals out of it. We also shared an order of cheesecake which was enough for four to share.

Yelp
Always my favorite place for a pastrami sandwich when I'm visiting my parents in Jersey. I can't comment on dining at the restaurant as we always do to-go orders. This recent visit we brought home a single meat platter of pastrami (1 lb.) that included a loaf of rye slices and a side of potato salad and coleslaw (both 1 lb. each as well). This was advertised as feeding 2 people but the portions turned out to be huge! Between 4 adults, we still had some leftovers afterwards. As for the food, the pastrami here is always so fresh and lean. I think it's equally as good as Katz's Deli in NYC. The potato salad is light and not overly saturated with mayo. The coleslaw is good as well. The onion rings are crispy and delicious. I also like their matzoh ball soup! Overall, great place if you're in the area and craving deli meat. The portions are large so order reasonably!

Yelp
Oh dear lord!!!! If you live near here and have never been, " What's your major malfunction??!!" I'm an OTR Truck driver from So. Cal and this place is amazing!!! The portions of food are enormous (so bring a friend or two!) and have them bring their wallet too!! The prices might be a little higher but for the quality and quantity of food it's fair! My service was excellent and very informative with the menu and pickle bar(yes a pickle bar!!) Inside the restaurant was really nice the atmosphere was warm and relaxing. I loved all the old pictures and the opened kitchen! So if you live near here or just visiting it's definitely worth the stop! So grab the family or a "few" friends and come enjoy some real Americana!!!

Yelp
Don't need my opinion, as others have stated, great food with huge portions. Service was excellent and overall if you want or crave good old fashioned Jewish deli food, Harold's is the place to go in Jersey.
