The 32 Essential Restaurants in Kansas City

"Harp Barbecue is a relative newcomer to the local barbecue scene, but that hasn’t kept founder Tyler Harp from topping local best-of lists and earning national praise for his thick-sliced, fatty brisket and creative homemade sausages. After operating as a pop-up for years, Harp moved into a permanent location at the end of 2022. The red-and-white sign on the building just says “barbecue” — deceptively humble branding for some of the city’s best smoked meats." - Liz Cook

The 14 Best BBQ Restaurants in Kansas City - Eater

"Few pitmasters have had as big an influence on KC barbecue in recent years as Tyler Harp. Since coming on the scene in 2019, he’s launched a local barbecue festival, an educational podcast, and inspired a host of aspiring craft barbecuers to switch to offset smokers. Harp only operates on Fridays and Saturdays inside Raytown’s Crane Brewing, and he almost always sells out; get here early to sample his incredibly rich sausages and thick slices of fat-marbled, perfectly smoked brisket. If you’re thinking that sounds like Texas-style brisket, you’re right. But Harp has never let regional expectations define his cooking, adopting techniques from across the country even as he pays tribute to the pitmasters that first put KC on the map." - Liz Cook

As my 2nd stop of the day Harp BBQ made me feel like I came in without having eaten a platter less than an hour ago. I walked in and I’m instantly hungry again. I was greeted by Tyler Harp himself as I’m contemplating what sides to get. I love a vinegar slaw as a nice way to cut the fat and I was sold on the cheesy corn. Which is apparently a KC standard. Who needs Mac and cheese when you got this. First off the brisket and the beef burnt ends were BEEFY! Such an overwhelming taste of beef. And a beautiful bark on both. Crunchy and peppery. This also goes for the ribs. Nice a peppery with a hint of sweetness. What blew me away the most was the sausage. It was a garlic pepper beef and pork mix sausage that hit me with the garlic flavor. I brushed my mouth and washed my hands since then (I ate with my hands it was so good) and the smell still lingers. Definitely my most favorite sausage of this trip. Oh and brisket of this trip. I had room for dessert after eating all this. I took a spoon full of the banana pudding and was surprised with the taste of ginger snap cookies instead of the usual Nila wafers. I enjoyed this so much. I feel that the ginger snap in the pudding made it a more refreshing bite after having eaten all that meat. Overall such an awesome meal showing that you don’t need to be in TX to have amazing TX style barbecue.

Best BBQ I've had in a while! Pulled pork sandwich was spot on-flavorful and not a bit dry. The Chopped Brisket sandwich was by far the best I've ever had. Their sauce is not too sweet, seasoned to perfection. The fully loaded baked potato salad gets an honorable mention too. Feel like BBQ? This is your place!!

Google
Had the two meat combo with brisket and turkey. The seasoning on the turkey was really good. The brisket was super moist and fell apart. The seasoning on the brisket was a good smoky taste. The cheesy corn was great and had an amazing flavor. I was not a fan of the baked beans. They had an odd spice flavor to them. I like mine sweet.

Google
Harp has some hard-working people, making some serious smoked meats. Everything we tried as far as meats was done very well. Don't miss out on the pastrami burnt ends. Talo fries, beans, Mac, and potato salad are much better than the typical BBQ side. Staff is friendly and it's clean. If you need some smoked meat, go ahead and give it a shot it can run with any of the big names in town.

Fantastic does not explain Harp BBQ well enough! I’m not a KC local but I am a huge fan of great BBQ and Harp BBQ is definitely one of the top on my list now! Burnt Ends were perfectly tender with a great crust on one side. The sliced brisket had a perfect bend and pull, and the taste was moist with a great crust. Both showed the smoke ring and had the perfect smoke flavor for beef! The pulled pork was phenomenal! Pulled pork was perfectly moist and tender with a great consistency through every bite. The pulled pork is lightly sauced with vinegar and hot sauce, which I can remember ever having before but holy cow does that work! Definitely taste the Texas influence at Harp BBQ. Great to see BBQ done this well and definitely with passion for the craft! I’ve hit all the top BBQ around Harp and they are definitely giving all the others a run for the money! Not sure why Harp BBQ is not rated higher. If you’re looking for some BBQ outside the major chains but definitely equal or better than, give Harp BBQ a try! I can definitely recommend, for whatever it’s worth.

Wow! We had picked up a slab of ribs to take home and we were amazed at the flavor and tender meat. Today we came in for lunch. Lunch special today was pulled pork sandwich, a side and drink for $14. Decided to give it a try and blown away at the amount of tender meat and flavor. Royals were playing in the dining area with fun KC pictures adorning the area. And Saturday $25 Slab special, getting one to go, please!

This place is fantastic. Instantly became one of my favorite BBQ places. I never heard of it before today. Tender fantastic brisket, awesome turkey and the sausage was andouille sausage. Never had it before but it was awesome had to go back for a second piece. Owner was great came out and checked on everyone. I eat alot of BBQ, me and my buddy go to a different barbecue place in Kansas City every weekend trying to sample it all. And it's not bad priced. Mine cost so much because I am a big eater and bought extra stuff.

As a Brit visiting Kansas City’s famed BBQ scene, I’ve now been to Harp’s twice—and both visits absolutely blew me away. The food? Absolutely amazing. Every smoked meat—brisket, ribs, burnt ends, sausage—is a smoky, juicy masterclass, reflecting Harp’s craft barbecue reputation. But what truly stole the show was the creamed corn, possibly the best I’ve ever tasted!! I have to give special praise to Tyler, the owner‑chef. He actually remembered us from our first visit (6 months ago), greeted us like old friends, and even surprised us with a larger meat platter than we ordered. That generosity and warmth turned a great meal into an unforgettable evening. The sides were top‑tier also. Home made and delicious. Shout out to the fries cooked in beef fat, and seasoned to perfection. In short, Harp’s BBQ delivers top-tier smoked meats, beautiful sides —wrapped up with genuine hospitality from a chef who clearly cares. Whether you’re a hardened BBQ veteran or a novice visitor from the UK like me, this is a must-visit.

Yelp
I found something at Harp BBQ that I've yet to see ANYWHERE else at all the BBQ joints I've visited around Kansas City, but let's save that for last. I sampled the Truth Bomb sandwich, a sausage link (flavors that seem to change daily), and the cheesy corn to start. I'll admit that I didn't care much for the cheesy corn as it was more like corn soup; very runny liquid with corn. So, I wouldn't recommend that. However, the sausage link was DELICIOUS as was the Truth Bomb...especially once I added some of their house-made coleslaw that they let me sample. I would TOTALLY recommend getting that sandwich with or without it, but they coleslaw gave the sandwich a very satisfying crunch. However, the item that I got at Harp that I've not seen elsewhere is the Sweet Potato Mash. As someone that loves sweet potatoes, I was extremely pleased to find this as part of the menu. It's a fantastic side dish and also works as a wonderful dessert to finish the meal. I think Harp should absolutely be on your list to try if you haven't already because I know I'll be visiting again. Yelp
Tried out a new hole in the wall bbq spot located in a strip mall. There isn't much to the outside or interior of this spot but the customer service and food was great. I was meeting a friend and got there a little early and chatted up the front service guys what they recommended. They were really nice and gave me some great recommendations. We got a combination of different types of meats and two sides. The brisket was good a little dry and needed some sauce. Pork ribs and the pork belly burnt ends were my favorite. They had a lot of great flavor to them. The two sides we got were the cheesy corn and potato salad. Both pretty standard and didn't stand out to much. This was a great find and will definitely be put in my rotation of bbq joints in Kansas City.

Yelp
Had lunch with some co-workers today and decided to try something different. Glad we found Harp BBQ, the service was great, the food was hot and it was delicious. All the smoked meat was flavorful and so tender, the sides were a nice compliment. This place is in a strip mall, so it's nothing special from the outside but inside it was clean and smelled so good. Gotta love BBQ smell

Yelp
Came here for some Kansas City style bbq. The place is located in a shopping center with plenty of parking available and it's also very spacious inside. The staff here was great. They had smiles and were very inviting. They also thanked us for stopping in on our way out and made sure we were satisfied while we were eating. My wife ordered their Chopped Beef Brisket sandwich and I ordered half a pound of Beef Burnt Ends with 2 sausage links, a blueberry white cheddar sausage link and a garlic sausage link with cheesy corn and sweet mash as our sides. Everything tasted delicious. I had a few bites of the sandwich, it was delicious. The burnt ends were perfectly cooked. The meat was very tender and it was served with just the right amount of fat. The links were also pretty good. I've never had "gourmet" sausage links before and now I have become a fan. I saw some pictures of the sweet potato's and thought I was going to get the picture version but ended up getting a mashed up version which was ok. It was also my first time trying cheesy corn and I also enjoyed it. I'm not sure who makes the best in Kansas City but I would definitely order it again. I wouldn't mind checking this place out on my next visit, there's just so many bbq joints that I would want to try before returning here. But if you're in this part of Kansas City, do not hesitate to give this place a try.

Yelp
Very excited for Harp to move to OP, but that does mean I'll need to find a new pregame meal before going to Royals games... Harp has some of the largest, juiciest burnt ends I've ever seen. The sides are good especially the cheesy corn and beans. Make sure you ask about/try any of their daily specials. The half rack of ribs for $13 was almost enough to feed 2 people. Friendly people, great BBQ!

Yelp
Visited around 12:45 on a Saturday and the line was about 6 deep. The staff worked very hard to get orders taken and send out food quickly. I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly we ordered and our food was ready 3 minutes later. Staff were all friendly and helpful, thanking every single customer for their business. Now for the food. I imagine if you like Texas BBQ, this would be your jam. However, I am not a fan of the vinegar based sauce. My husband and mother-in-law thought it tasted like ketchup or Heinz 57. The chopped meat sandwich was average along with the burnt ends by the 1/2lb. The meat was all a little bit dry for my taste. The sausage was the star of the show. I highly recommend the links!! Very moist and flavorful in the two bites I had on my sandwich. The twice baked potato salad was also very yummy. Tasted like a mashed fully loaded baked potato. Overall, it was a fine lunch but I would not come back for seconds. I hope they find their niche clientele to enjoy their food.

Yelp
The service was good and the food was great! I had the brisket and half rack of ribs with boudin balls and baked beans. I would definitely go back for the ribs and boudin balls! The ribs had some kind of black pepper sauce on it and it was sooo good! My friend had the pulled pork and potato salad and also said it was good! We were staying in Independence and randomly found this place. The drive wasn't too bad.

Yelp
Food was really good. Moved here two years ago and had no idea this was place was here in a strip mall. Service great and BBQ was top notch. A must try.

Yelp
Heard about Harp from a friend and have been waiting to visit KC to check it out. I was definitely not disappointed. Had brisket, pulled pork, some (AMAZING) sausages, and burn ends. Enjoyed every single bite. The burnt ends & the sausages were probably my favorite. The staff members were all super friendly and seemed to prepare the food with care. The owner is definitely passionate about what he does and it shows in the food. Best BBQ spot in KC!

Yelp
I was excited to try this but disappointed by the experience. Brisket (not really TX style) and the burnt ends were average. Beans were not good and sweet potatoes (recommended) were odd and out of place. Service seemed unknowledgeable and disorganized.
google avatar

Taylor N.

Yelp
The Chopped Brisket sandwich was delicious! Moist, flavorful, and it came with pickled onions and pickles which were a treat. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Tennessee pulled pork sandwich flavor, but it was also a moist and flavorful sandwich. The sweet potato was a cool idea. They are inspired by burnt ends with a glaze and cilantro. I loved the flavor but did wish they were crispy instead of soft and soggy. Friendly service! We went later in the day without a wait, though I hear it can be busy at opening. It was clean with enough seating. However we couldn't find a baby seat, so maybe bring a booster.

Yelp
The food had so much flavor! I love BBQ and like to try different spots when I travel. Next time I'm in the Kansas City area, I'll have to come back for sure!

Yelp
After seeing Harp's being named the best BBQ in Kansas City, and being a native myself, I was looking forward to the visit with my boyfriend today. Unfortunately I left really disappointed. For newbies, it's definitely gonna be a bit of a surprise of HOW divey it is. A chalkboard on the wall with tape over stuff they were out of and bits of construction paper for specials. I'm a brisket girl so I was looking forward to getting a brisket sandwich all day. Unfortunately, they don't have combos, unless it's a special, so I ended up getting cheesy corn as a standalone side. I'd heard less than stellar things about the beans, so I decided to try something different. Anyway, with tip it was $20 for the sandwich and corn. My boyfriend got the fried fish combo which was like $10, which came with a side and a 12 oz cup of soda (weirdly small). He got the mashed sweet potatoes. As for the actual food, I was pretty disappointed. This place is so buzzy and with the cost of food, I had high expectations, which is perhaps my fault. But anyway I got the brisket sandwich and the cheesy corn, as I mentioned. I also ended up bringing my water bottle from the car because their water cups are 8 oz at best. The brisket in the sandwich was extremely tender but not too fatty. However, it was room temperature. Seems like they are prepping everything way ahead, as expected, but perhaps the reheat/heat retention wasn't doing what it needed to do. So the room temp brisket wasn't juicy, like I'd expected. And I found the sauce to taste too much like ketchup. I did enjoy the pickles and pickled onions on the plate. The real letdown, especially since it was $4, was the cheesy corn. It was weirdly soupy and the corn was basically raw. Cheese nowhere to be found. I'm wondering if they forgot to make a roux because my boyfriend had been there previously and he said it was way different than what he'd had (the pic he showed was definitely more the consistency that I would have expected). Just don't try to make cheesy corn if it's not going to compare favorably with Jack Stack. I ended up tossing it. I spent $20 on what tasted worse than $10 BBQ. My boyfriend said the fish sandwich tastes how he expected for $10. So just ok. I am giving 3 stars because service was prompt and the people were friendly and the meat had a nice texture.

Yelp
After all of the acclaim that Harp has received, I was looking forward to trying their barbecue as part of our KC BBQ safari. We were very disappointed. The meats were cooked properly, but all of them--ribs, brisket, burnt ends--lacked smoky flavor. The smoke rings were there, but no smoke.

Yelp
This was our 30th BBQ stop in Missouri, and the 395th nationwide. We came here with high expectations, given that Kansas City Magazine has called it the best 'cue joint in the metro area. But we left with mixed feelings. $49.91 purchased a half pound of fatty end brisket, a sausage link, an order of pork belly burnt ends,, sides of baked beans and cheesy corn, and two refillable soft drinks (Pepsi products). Both sides proved exceptional, and although a tad too salty, the pork belly burnt ends were buttery smooth. The house sauce masked the saltiness. The sausage was okay but hardly memorable, and we used it to sop up the pot likker from the beans (the order came with pickles and onions, but no bread-- and no knives). The brisket was well smoked, although it did require a knife to cut, and the rub was bland, Absent the bark the meat tasted very much like ordinary roast beef. So, hits and misses, and too many misses for us to style this "destination 'cue." We would not go out of our way to dine here.

Yelp
I like the pork ribs here more than anything else. It's a good place to try to get away from the usual places we all hear about in KC.
google avatar

Yelp
I enjoy their brisket, reminds me of good old Texas style brisket! Love their pickled onions soo good with the richness of the brisket. Nice folks behind the counter and I will be back!

Yelp
We visited Harp's BBQ, after my husband read a review in the paper. It's in an unassuming strip mall. There's plenty of parking. We went on a Wednesday so we could get wings. They're only served on Wednesdays. Let me tell you, these wings were huge and tasty! My husband got Buffalo sauce and I got lemon pepper. Both were good but the lemon pepper was our favorite. We liked the beans and twice baked potato salad. We saw them slicing brisket and it looked quite good. Next time, we'll get a sandwich or ribs. If you like BBQ, check them out.
google avatar

Jason J.

Yelp
Unassuming store front location, but it brings the goods. The guys were super helpful building out our order (which is a huge help for an out of towner). We got ribs, brisket, and burnt ends family style with beans, cole slaw, and Mac and cheese. It was delicious (and a little surprising) across the board. Ribs were the real deal. I'm having trouble coming up with words that aren't cliche. But come on! The dry rub with a little of the sauce was so tasty, I couldn't stop. The brisket was smokey and juicy, and the burnt ends were flavor bombs! Everyone in the family limped out a little... we just couldn't stop. For what amounted to less than $20/person, I'll be heading back whenever I'm in KC!

Yelp
Harp very recently moved to their brand new brick and mortar building down the street but I wasn't able to find their updated address to throw this review under so it's getting put here. I attended the grand opening and had some of the best bbq I've had in awhile. The new spot has lots of seating even if it doesn't look like it at first glance. There are little hidden rooms that have additional seating and I'm sure could be used for private events in the future. Like I said, they are down the street from Crane but still close enough that you could grab some tasty grub and head over there for a brew. I tried the Truth Bomb sandwich-chopped brisket and sliced sausage. The sausage is some of the best I've ever had. Juicy, Smokey, flavorful. I would honestly order and eat just that. The chopped brisket was also really good and had lots of flavor. I didn't even really need to add a bunch of sauce because the meat on its own was so good! At a prior visit at Crane I tried the blueberry white cheddar sausage and pork belly burnt ends. Again, both were outstanding. For sides we tried the sweet potato burnt ends, beans, and cheesy corn. The sides are not traditional bbq sides that you get elsewhere. They definitely have a more Latin flair. The sweet potato burnt ends were just ok. I really didn't get what was burnt ends about them...maybe they were smoked? They were good but I'd go with something else next time. I did like the beans. I'm not a huge fan of bbq beans, I have my favorites and I honestly didn't think I would like these. But I was wrong. The beans have zero bbq sauce, they are pinto beans topped with cotija cheese and jalapeños. I like that they were different and unique. The cheesy corn reminded me more of elotes. They were indeed cheesy but was topped with spices and cilantro. Again, really good but not the traditional variety we see elsewhere. The portions of everything was generous. I had leftovers which reheated beautifully and made for a great weekday lunch-no sad desk lunch that day! If you haven't been definitely try it out! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Heard about Harp for years but it just never really aligned since I live far away. Thanks to the Rock Island Trail and a much-needed bike ride on a day off, the stars aligned and I got to try it out. I'd just listened to a podcast about popular BBQ joints in Austin TX that had me craving not just BBQ, but maybe something a little different than the staples of KC I always visit. Harp delivered in that sense, and it was the perfect calorie replacement after a ride. I opted for the Truth Bomb sandwich because it has both chopped brisket (brisket is always a good judge of BBQ skill around here) but also a choice of sausage on top; I went for jalapeno cheddar and am glad I did. This sandwich was legit! The brisket was super flavorful and tender, and whatever fat that was on it emulsified perfectly, adding flavor into it all. I enjoyed the addition of the pickles and red onions as well, and I found the sauce here to be fantastic. Glad I asked for a side of it. I took the sausage off the top as I wanted to enjoy it separately, and was surprised at how good it was. If you enjoy sausage at all, you must make it a priority to try it here. I'm withholding really reviewing the atmosphere/vibe because I came late in the afternoon on a weekday, not exactly prime hours. It wasn't busy like I expect it gets on the weekends. Look I've tried a lot of new players on the KC BBQ scene and often and disappointed, but it was the opposite here. Harp has carved their way into that upper echelon, and hope to see them closer to my neck of the woods at some point in the future.

Yelp
This may be the best Barbecue I have eaten. We got the Three meat combo that came with two sides. Twice Baked potato salad and sweet corm. Both were delicious. Our meats were Brisket, Burnt Ends, and Pork Ribs. All were cooked to perfection. All melted in our mouths. The owner and his father helper were very gracious. They knew their BBQ. I have lived in Central California and grew up in North Carolina. They were knowledgeable of both regional BBQ. Well done guys

Yelp

Yelp
We ate at over 12 BBQ joints in KC in 4 days. This was the best. The meats are fork tender while also holding enough chew. Unlike other places, Harp is able to get the smoke deep into the meat, probably through patience and craft. The Banana pudding was a welcome side as well. Please note that the wait is pretty atrocious. We waited an hour to order. But I do believe it was worthwhile.
google avatar

Dawn H.

Yelp
Was this a 4 or a 5 star... It was really hard for me to pick. If you are a "BBQ should be judged by the meats and meats alone" sort of person then this place is a 5 star. If you're the "BBQ is the whole shabang" type you will land on 4 stars. I know this is controversial (and the only evidence I have is confidence in my palate and the long lines) but this is the best smoked meat in town. There, I said it. Haters can hate. The sauce is meh. The sides are not amazing. The cheesy corn needs to be rebranded as cream corn but that really wouldn't improve upon the taste and soupy sauce. The menu changes so we could suggest something but it may not be there the next time. The sausage (blueberry and cheddar cheese) was delicious. The burnt ends were a revelation. The brisket was so juicy and flavorful. The hours are nearly impossible but if you find yourself in the narrow window grab a beer, stand in line, and all the trays of BBQ that pass you while you wait will elevate you sense of expectation and hunger.

Yelp
Tried the Truth Bomb sandwich and the pork ribs that were the special The sandwich was great, but the ribs were the best I've ever had. Best hole in the wall BBQ joint I've found in the area. Can definitely tell Tyler loves to BBQ. Counter service was swift and the team was amazing. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We went for their grand opening at the new brick and mortar location yesterday. We waited about an hour which wasn't a surprise. My personal faves were the burnt ends, ribs, and pastrami. The baked potato casserole was also really good.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Best brisket and burnt ends in town. One can argue that Yelp and other similar "restaurant review" platforms are a joke, and only provide a platform for unhappy guests to complain about a business without involving the business itself, or providing a manager/owner with the opportunity to correct a mistake. Props to local businesses who survive every day in spite of these toxic platforms. Keep up the good work.

Yelp
I dont want to recommend this place because it is so good I dont want it getting too busy. We arrived after the lunch rush on a Saturday and so they were pretty low on a lot of their items but still had enough to feed 4 adults and 4 kids. The brisket was sliced by hand to order which is something that just adds to the experience. The brisket was tender and seasoned perfectly, as was the pulled pork. At the time they were offering a chicken sandwich which my daughter ordered which turned out to be a massive fried chicken breast that was amazing. The Cheesy Corn and Baked Potato Salad were amazing as well. It is not a fancy cloth napkin Q39 or Jack Stack place, but closer to the original Joes, or SLAPS which is absolutely perfect to compliment the style of food they are putting out.

Yelp
Harp Barbecue has evolved from a pop up project into a full blown foodie destination. They've moved into the bowels of the brewery, in a small warehouse behind the canning operation that's been converted into a makeshift workspace and dining area. The barbecue is still Texas-style and its still among the best in town, especially the brisket. The usual suspects are available, but random specials are too. Those specials include meats like blueberry sharp white cheddar links, Habanero cheddar links, pastrami and a random assortment of desserts. Saturday is when the magic happens. Sometimes Friday is, too. Please follow along on social media for all of the up-to-date info.

Yelp
If you want Texas-style brisket in Kansas City, this is the place for you! I went there for a late lunch on a Thursday. The place was empty, so I didn't have to wait in line for four hours like I did at Franklins, but the brisket was almost as good as Franklins! I ordered a half-pound of their pencil-width sliced brisket and a sausage link with a side of beans. It was a little pricy, coming in at about $36, but I don't mind paying for master craftmanship. The brisket has a nice salt and pepper bark, and a good smoke flavor. It was tender and juicy. They gave me a plastic fork and spoon to eat with - I didn't even need a knife. The sausage link was spicy, juicy and tasty. The beans had a little spice to them as well. I ordered a drink, and was happily surprised when I found Big Red on the fountain - just like in Texas! Like most good bbq places, you order at the counter, and pick up yourself at the counter. The ambiance was pure Texas smokehouse - industrial and somewhat spartan. There is a nice KC-themed mural on the wall where I sat. The sauce tasted like vinegary ketchup. but I wasn't there for the sauce. The meat was the star, and it really didn't need any sauce. I am really glad I finally made it to this place. I will be back every chance I get!

Yelp
The hype is real - Harp is a full notch above the 'popular' KC BBQ joints. The attention to detail and effort to produce the highest quality is evident. There's genuine effort and passion, not only in the smoking of meats, but also the preparation of the house-made side dishes. The second best BBQ joint can't touch this place. While the food is amazing, the store itself is unashamedly low-budget. A mural of BBQ icons on one wall is worthy of an art exhibit, but everything else is 'modest'. None of that matters because the food speaks for itself. We ordered two dishes and three sides for take-away - the way it was packaged and presented was totally unexpected - a real pleasant surprise. Recommend? Oh yes!

Yelp
Harp BBQ has been on my must-do list for several years; ever since I started seeing it pop up on most best-of lists for BBQ in KC and even a few national ones. With the publicity and only being open inside a brewery and only on Saturdays; the long lines and the early sell outs, became legendary; so I never made the effort to get up early and drive across the metro to Raytown to stand in line for possibly an hour or more for a limited selection. As of a few weeks ago, Harp has finally opened up a brick and mortar now open 4 days a week so off to Raytown I ventured on a Saturday at 3pm. Upon arrival only 2 tables occupied, nobody in line and only ribs and one side item were sold-out. I felt fortunate. I ordered the Truth Bomb sandwich - chopped beef brisket and sliced sausage on a soft brioche bun with sauce, pickles and pickled onions on the side. A succulent meaty masterpiece! The meats are chopped upon order in front of you at the open air prep table behind the counter. Both meats were crazy good and I would gladly re-order and recommend either. The beef brisket was not cut thin and layered on the sandwich but cut thick and chopped up - delivering an almost burnt-end vs pulled pork consistency and presentation. Sausage was equally sublime with great smoky flavor and no annoying aftertaste like some sausages offer. The beans are my only slight complaint. What would be the best charros style dish in any Mexican restaurant; it just didn't deliver for what I was expecting to be served in a BBQ restaurant. Just a preference issue, not a quality issue. If I had been served them at a Tex-Mex joint - I'd be raving about them in the review. It appears that the sweetpotato dish is the go-to since that was the first sell-out. Great customer service and follow up from owner and several staff. The huge BBQ mural is way cool and worth a closer examination. Bottom Line - Harp deserves the accolades and lines they have attracted. Congratulations on the new space and see ya soon.

Yelp
The ribs are the best I had during a barbecue tour of Kansas City. Better than Joe's for sure. And love that there is always a different saysCan't wait to come back!

Yelp
The brisket was good. Burnt end so-so The beans were out of a can with no meat, smoke, or flavor. Expensive for what we got. I recommend you try it for yourself. A lot of people seem to like it. Won't be in our regular BBQ rotation.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE the pop-up vibes at this true KC BBQ joint. Of course the burnt ends were show stopping. Best yet the beers up front at Crane and a perfect pairing.

Yelp
Found ourselves on the east side of KC and decided to give this place a try after hearing it mentioned in some comment threads online. The tator tot appetizer is amazing..I'd go there just for that. We got the sauce put on the side just because I still like to taste the meats and not so much the sauces. BBQ sauce is nothing to write home about but the brisket was pretty good with an excellent dry rub and solid smoke flavor. Appreciate the selection of sides and the ambiance they try to create with the custom murals. Not as good as some of the big guys but I can appreciate that this is a good truck turned restaurant and he's still building his business so would definitely come back again if back in the area.

Yelp
Omg! What a shock. I heard about Harp BBQ on a FB page for smoking meat and decided to try it. Do yourself a favor and come tey this. You won't be disappointed. Great food!! Service was great. Our food came out fast and we ordered alot of food. The atmosphere wasn't bad but not great, typical hole i the wall joint. I would give give stars if my bread was toasted and not just plain white bread.

Yelp
They have unique hours and times to enjoy the best barbecue I've had in a long time in the Kansas City area. I understand why everyone says to come early because this place sells out on the regular. I would advise to wear your stretchy pants and a good pair of tennis shoes. People lineup and wait for long periods of time to get this masterpiece called heart barbecue. The stretchy pants are for how far you will be after eating your entire plate of barbecue. Lol! Go ahead and stay and hang out at the brewery afterwards they serve a lot of delicious craft beers.

Yelp
Very good we got the sausage, brisket, catfish, pork ribs, burnt ends Mac-n-cheese , twice baked potato salad, coleslaw and cheesy corn. The staff is so friendly and love talking about their process. The beautiful mural on the wall and royals deco really ties it together.

Yelp
There is absolutely no better Beef Brisket in Kansas City. In fact I would put Tyler's brisket up against anyone in America. It's tasty, tender and moist. It's like beef butter. Of course the other menu items are very good...but the brisket is the ticket. Be sure to give it a try. Bet me you won't buy some "to go" too! RGB-Shawnee, KS.

Yelp
Harp has quickly taken its place amongst the best BBQ in KC. I really like the brisket, ribs, and pork belly burnt ends. The blueberry white cheddar sausage is the best smoked sausage I've ever had. I think the only thing I haven't been impressed by there have been the beef brisket burnt ends. They seemed too big and meaty to come from the point, and the bark didn't have the crunch you'd normally see in a burnt end. They were still delicious pieces of brisket, just not how I like my burnt ends. Tyler Harp and his BBQ are getting a lot of local and national hype for good reason. He is doing it right, and I hope he will make his BBQ available more than a few hours a week. The changing menu, limited hours, and having it tucked away in a back room of a brewery does add a little something though... It is almost like it is a secret that you have to hunt down.

Yelp
Setting the bar just a little higher in this city full of BBQ legends, Harp really brings it with his take on regional favorites from across the U.S.

Yelp
Big find in small town. Recently had the pleasure to try BBQ at Harp BBQ in Raytown, MO. The building is only marked by "Barbecue". A line had already begun. It began with the wonderful smell of their smoked delights. Dove in to a shared platter and the ribs were fall off the bone delicious. Their smoked sausage was scrumptious and the brisket and burnt ends were tender. The sauce was not needed. Service was excellent. A side of corn and baked beans and we left happily satisfied. Beans need a little something more, but the corn dish was excellent. One style of sauce served and it had a hint of vinegar, not too sweet and not spicy. The question everyone asks, would you go back. My answer, Yes!

Yelp
I love bbq, and this place has been getting all the pub. I took my whole family, including my two boys are big bbq fans. If I was in the neighborhood I would come back. However, would I drive across town, no I wouldnt. I had the truth bomb sandwich and it was good, my sons had ribs and they were solid but not spectacular.

Yelp
I don't think Harp needs my help, but I wanted to make sure there is no confusion about what they have going on here. This was our first (and best) stop while hunting for BBQ in KC. We had brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and burnt ends, all of which were genuinely outstanding. The burnt ends in particular were probably the single most memorable bite of our trip. All of the staff were incredibly friendly, expressing their appreciation for our patronage. Harp himself was an extremely kind person, talking 'cue, and giving us many suggestions for stops while in KC. This couldn't have been a better introduction to the food and people of Kansas City, and we will remember it for quite some time.

Yelp
WOW! Raytown has it's own barbecue that is Outa-this-World Good! Harp has barbequed meats so scrumptious that Hubby and I are already Fans! They've only been open at their new storefront location at 6633 Raytown Road for about three weeks. And we've managed to visit three times! With Harp, it really is all about the meat! The day to day menu always includes brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork and at least one kind of sausage links every day. They do slabs of ribs on Fridays and Saturdays only. They have three sandwiches on their menu, but I ask for a sausage sandwich on one of our visits and they were happy to accommodate me. They serve every order with house-made pickle chips and pickled red onions which helps to cut the absolute richness of the meat. A great touch! I Luv, love, LOVE the meats...but must admit that the sides are mostly just so-so. My favorite of the four on their menu is the Twice Bakes Potato Salad. It's a balanced mix of flavors that both hubby and I really liked. The other three on the menu are "cheesy corn", "sweet potato burnt ends" (no meat involved, just caramelized sweet potato chunks) and their version of "beans". Yup, there are no fries or tots by the choice of the owner BUT when you offer brisket this consistently amazing--you really don't need 'em! The menu also lists "banana pudding" but I've resisted up to now. Their hours for now are Wednesday through Saturday. They open at 11 a.m. and post that they close at 6 p.m. "or until they are "sold out". Finally, I just must say a word about the staff: They are friendly, accommodating and always efficient, cheerful and helpful. Whether we dine-in, as we did yesterday, or order take-out to carry home, Harp is a great place for barbeque!

Yelp
I've been here a few times.. the burnt ends.. ribs and brisket are always on point. Not a huge fan of their sides though.
