Best New Restaurants in Greenville, South Carolina, Right Now - Eater Carolinas

"Harry’s Hoagies draws a lunch crowd to the Historic Overbrook neighborhood. Built on seeded hoagie rolls from Liscio’s Bakery in New Jersey, a menu of inventive sandwiches have captured Greenville’s fancy like the MAP with its fried mozzarella, arugula salad, marinated cantaloupe, and prosciutto. The husband-and-wife team of Michelle Pavlakos and Andrew Fallis recently pulled over their cheesesteak concept, Mike’s, from the outdoor food hall Gather, making a stop at Harry’s extra warm and inviting." - Stephanie Burnette

Loved Mikes when they were at Gather. I'm so thankful they are still around, and we finally were able to try this gem today. The gentleman at the register explained the menu to us since it was our first time! I went with the Cheesesteak with macaroni salad, and my girlfriend went with the Tommy Gun with pickled veggies. The sandwiches were massive and so delicious. The sides were okay, but I'll try the potato salad next time. We already picked out our subs for our next visit. 10/10. Everything is wonderful here. Only open for 3 hours on sundays, they were doing crazy amounts of online orders. Keep up the great work!

Google
While this isn’t exactly the same as getting a classic hoagie or cheese steak sandwich from Philadelphia but it is the best place in Greenville. The service is top notch and the food is excellent. We tried a classic cheese steak (Mike) and the current special sandwich, apple. Flair and texture was spot on. Will definitely be making a trip back to try out more sandwiches.

I heard about this place 6 months ago from a co-worker. I've also seen many posts on FB about their cheesesteaks. Usually when a place is hyped up this much it falls short, but Harry’s takes all that hype and backs it up big time. Checked it out a month ago and Justin was running the front he picked us out as first timers from the jump. He educated us on how the owners are from Philly and Jersey and how the rolls are brought in from Liscio's in Jersey and their meats are from Italy and sliced to order. I must point out that I'm not from Philly or New Jersey nor have I ever been to either city/state. With that being said this was hands down the best cheese steak sandwich I've had in my life and I've had a bunch of them. I got it Andrew's Way which is with "onions, sweets and hots" and it was phenomenal. Had just the right amount of heat and greasy cheesey goodness. Also tried out a 6" Italian and the quality from the bread to the meats is on another level compared to most shops. We came back a month later and Justin remembered us. He flat out knows his customers and does such a great job. Literally had a line out the door the whole time we were there and could still take the time to come out and check on us in the dining room. This place has a 4.9 overall rating on Google and there's a reason for this. Believe the hype, this place is legit. Docking them a star on atmosphere only because they have little to no seating and the parking lot is atrocious. I recommend parking at the church across the street .

Google
I am not a cold sandwich person. I also have had bad experiences with eateries that brag about their bread. This place offsets all of that. Wow! The bread was neither overpowering nor bland like other establishments. The quality of the food was amazing. I have no other places I would go back to for a hoagie. I would here.

Google
Came in at lunchtime and was lucky to get a parking spot right in front. There are not many tables to eat in so I went across the street and ate my delicious hoagie. I got the Tommy gun, I mean, why not it's got my name in it. L.O.L This was the first time here and won't be the last. The hoagie was very good and made to order. The only bad thing was the music was so loud the guy taking my order couldn't really hear me.

Google
Italian Hoagie did not disappoint. Loved the provolone especially. Macaroni Salad was great too. Nice to see an owner on premise...super nice guy.

Google
Enjoyed my experience here. Had the classic philly cheesesteak and the potato salad and that apple cookie(WOW). Customer service was A1 and so was the food. Will return to try a hoagie. Sooo delicious. Great vibes

Google
Ok, so I'm giving the atmosphere 4 stars due to not a lot of seating and being really loud in the building, but don't let this keep you away from this 5-star establishment. Today (2-24-2024) was our second visit here, and just like the first time, it did not disappoint. Our first time was about a month ago, and we met Justin, who was phenomenal, by the way. He knew we were first-timers and gave us a little history of the owners and where they get all of their quality breads and meats. When we walked in today, over a month later, he recognized us and welcomed us back. This lets you know he knows his customers. Both visits, I've had the cheesesteak Andrew's way, which comes with onions, sweet & hot peppers. This is by far the best cheesesteak I have ever had. We've also tried the Italian and the Godfather. Both were really good, but the Italian is on point. The meats are super high quality, sliced to order, and you can tell they take pride in their food and care about what they send out. Today, we arrived shortly after opening to make sure we could get a table. Good thing we did because by the time we got done placing our order, there was a line out the door and didn't stop the whole time we were there. If you haven't tried this place yet, it definitely needs to be on your list.

Yelp
DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE. Harry's Hoagies is not just a neighborhood sandwich shop, it is fine dining and an experience all in one. When you walk in you will be greeted by a tight, deli style restaurant. But what happens behind the counter is nothing short of magic. They have a menu with some unexpected sandwich names on them, don't be nervous, it doesn't matter who is helping you, they will all take the time to make sure that you know what you are getting, you are getting what you want, and most importantly, they will make recommendations to help you get either what you want, or to get you out of your comfort zone and try something new. Seriously, the staff is amazing, they will spend as much time with you as you need to make sure you are happy with your order. And that says something, since it doesn't matter what you order, you will always leave happy. Don't slept on the M.A.P. Or the Belle tonne. Any of their sandwiches that seem "off the wall", they have tested them and they are legit. The whole place is a vibe, the people are great, the food is amazing. It's so good that your can even look past the fact that they are phili eagle fans

Yelp
Fantastic sandwich shoppe tucked away in a shopping strip on East North Street. Quick, friendly service from a staff operating like a well-oiled machine. The only thing that could remotely be considered a drawback is the small interior space - there are tables to enjoy your food there, but they're usually occupied as this place is justifiably popular. I recommend getting your sandwich to go if you can (or if you have more than 2 folks). They make it easy to order ahead and have your food ready if you choose takeout. The subs are absolutely *loaded* with high quality ingredients, and I love the macaroni side salad. Magnificent balance of flavors on every menu item I've had thus far. Make sure you check out whatever hoagie they have on special. Can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
Staff was awesome and super friendly. My kids had the Philly sandwich and loved it. Best they've had since leaving CA. I had the pork sandwich and it was amazing with the broccoli rabe. The bread was very good and the staff said it was brought in from Jersey. Bread is half the key to a successful sandwich IMO. Wanted the doughnuts next door but they were closed and the counter guy went into the back and gave me two! He said they usually close at 2 so I guess they get the leftovers. It was a great doughnut and this was fantastic of the staff to do that. Will definitely go back and recommend them to friends.

Yelp
I got the Italian sub it was full of meat and the bread was delicious ,i think it needed a little more mustard mayo and some vinegar

Anderson O.

Yelp
Long wait but worth it! Ordered meatball sub and the Italian sub. The meatball was messy but worth it! Homemade meatballs with great sauce. The Italian was good but the toppings fell out very easily. We got a cookie for free by the owner and it was the BEST I have ever had. Highly recommend the smores cookie!

Yelp
The Philly cheese steak is , the people are nice. Service was quick, must try. The sides are an odd little touch but the sandwiches are good.
google avatar

Yelp
Finally found a place that actually tastes just like Philly's hoagies and cheesesteaks. Loved the cherry hot peppers! My favorite cheesesteak was Mike's classic I just swapped the green peppers with cherry hot peppers.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Legit Philly hoagies and cheese steaks. The owners and the staff were beyond friendly and a pleasure to talk with. I got the traditional cheese steak and it was awesome. I want to try the rest of the hoagies now.

Yelp
I totally miss Philly food and was delighted to find Harry's! The food is fantastic and the line is out the door! I had a pizza steak with grilled onions, we had Utz chips and drinks. Sides were potato salad and pickled veggies. Both my husband and I were thrilled. Definitely go and say hi to the staff. Terrific customer service and hospitality. A few tables inside that fill up quickly. Thanks to Mike and the staff.

Yelp
NONE BETTER... Best in the Upstate, always fresh and service with huge smiles! #PhillyLegit

Rick A.

Yelp
Best sub sandwich in Greenville. Trust the kitchen on the specials. They know how to blend flavors in an elegantly harmonious fashion. Our order took a few extra minutes more than normal today and the staff pro-actively reacted by apologizing and throwing in some bonus cookies (S'mores was amazing). Can't say enough good things.

Ellie Y.

Yelp
What a gem we stumbled upon! Was craving a sandwich and were very lucky that we happened upon Harry's Hoagies. The service was amazing. Everyone was so nice and attentive. The inside was very clean, menu was easy to read and I like that all sandwiches come with a side. They are dog friendly and have a little patio off to the side. If you're in the GVL area stopping here is a must!!!

Tim B.

Yelp
What a sandwich!! Classic Italian is a huge hoagie; surely enough for lunch, dinner and then some. Wow, and these guys are moving behind the counter. Great bang for the buck.
google avatar

Morgan L.

Yelp
Friendly service, excellent food. Sandwiches are served on tasty bread, and stuffed with high quality ingredients. Cheese steak options included onions; sweet peppers; hot peppers. Meatball and eggplant parm sandwiches looked interesting. So did the variety of subs.
google avatar

Christen A.

Yelp
This place is the BOMB!! Sandwiches are amazing, cold cuts are super fresh and high quality! The staff are some of the nicest people you'll meet. Justin makes you feel like family from the moment you walk in the door. Michelle and Andrew are so beyond kind. The line out the door is a testament to how good the food is! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Ok, being from South Jersey, wanted to try Harry's for quite some time! Small shops with limited seating (10-12) Menu board describes Hoagies and Cheesesteaks All sandwiches come with one fresh side Prices are a bit more than Jersey Mikes, but so is the quality. Staff is outgoing and great, even for a first timer! Food quality, and the ROLLS, are great. Italian hiagie was above average, quality meats and fresh. Some spice. Cheesesteak was made with lovin! Will go back if in the area, we over ordered as the two of us like to split a cheese steak and an Italian...got the 12" Italian, could have worked with splitting the 6" Italian and a cheesesteak. Lesson Learned!

Yelp
Fantastic sandwiches, with great ingredients and awesome bread that's shipped in. great staff and owner! Coming back for a steak soon!!

Yelp
We discovered THE fattest, mouth-watering hoagies at Harry's Hoagies. Nestled in the Overbrook Community of Greenville, SC, you will not believe how delicious and fresh their creations taste until you try. We highly recommend the "Cooper" and fresh potato salad.

Mitch D.

Yelp
Bogies, grinders, subs who cares what you call them. ANY thing you order here is simply the best. I'm tawk'in ta you:-) Andrew the owner takes much pride in his business and it shows. Mitch

Yelp
I've heard a lot of people talk about this place, so I decided to give it a try today! Did NOT disappoint! You can taste the freshness of everything! Staff was very friendly and gave great service! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I came in for a to go order. I got a few subs and it was going to be about a 10 min wait. The bread is what makes this place unique. The meat was super filling and delicious. I got the italian and I got my husband a turkey hoagie. I got the macaroni salad and potato salad. I loved the macaroni salad and my husband liked the potato salad better. Next time I'm going to call to place an order so I don't have to wait.

Yelp
I was really craving this place today but unfortunately they are closed Monday-Wednesday, so I guess I'll write about my experience. Let's start off with: I love sandwiches. Absolutely love them! I was super excited to hear that a new hoagie shop had opened up in my new neighborhood. Definitely a cute little shop that I have a feeling will definitely need to expand in the future. I got your basic ham hoagie with the potato salad. The potato salad, y'all!!!! Oh my gosh - all my hopes and dreams were answered with this potato salad. I'm super particular with potato salad and this was amazing. If I could go home with a gallon of it, I would be a happy woman. The sandwich was great! I think the next time I go, I'll add Mayo and some mustard to it (it was a little dry even with the vinegar/oil on it). Super nice people in there. There are a lot of sandwiches to choose from. There is also parking across the street if things get packed in the parking lot. 10/10 - will go again!

Justin T.

Yelp
This place is small, busy, crowded and those are all good things. Service was incredibly friendly and casual. I had a cheesesteak. It was made quickly and tasted great. It isn't quite the overstuffed hoagie you'd get in the Northeast but the bread was quality and the overall sandwich was one of the best I've had in the area.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Harry's Hoagies was absolutely amazing! The cannoli was out of this world. The meats are Italian imports and the roll is from New Jersey. Pictured is the Italian Sammie and the Widger.

Yelp
I absolutely love Harry's Hoagie Shoppe! I had eaten at Mike's before at gather and was delighted to hear from some of my friends that Harry's was the same people. We went on a Saturday to get their current special Saturday cheese steaks. The day we were there they had the options to add onions, sweet peppers, and/or hot peppers. They also had a second option of a Pizza Philly. I ordered a regular Philly with onions and my friends got one on the pizza ones. Both of the hoagies were amazing. I cannot wait to go back and try some of their other menu options because everything looked delicious. Aside from the food, the longer we were in the restaurant the more we realized the Harry's Hoagies employees have never met a stranger. They greeted each customer with the joy of seeing an old friend. They have a way of instantly making customers feel right at home with their kindness and attention to detail. It's easy to see why their parking lot and tables stay packed with customers. So glad to have found my new favorite hoagie spot.

Erin W.

Yelp
First visit today as recommended by the Greenville Foodies Facebook site. Excellent , fresh, unique sub options . Reasonable prices, friendly service, long wait so they gave us extra chips and cookie!
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
Sandwiches are top tier and service is excellent! I've never had less than an excellent experience!

Yelp
Being from Philly, originally, I can attest that Michelle and Andrew's steaks, hoagies, and all their embellishments are the real deal. Years in NYC as a filmmaker made me miss the quality Italian sandwich experience in Philly, ( which is far superior to NYC) and these guys brought those flavors and textures back to my palate. My wife Mary and I met them when they first opened in Overbrook, have eaten there dozens of times ,and immediately learned of their GVL Gather ( now closed) cheesesteak shop, so we made a dash over there...and had the best cheesesteaks Down South, ( incl ATL) in a mediocre, odd setting...so glad they merged their shops into one in Overbrook, with expansion on the way. Overbrook is the up and coming restaurant area of GVL... This husband and wife team is in the cutting edge of what's happening in foodie GVL. Shout out to Justin as well, one of their many knowledgable and personable employees.

Yelp
Harry's Hoagie shoppe reminded me of home (Long Island!) You can taste the love in everything. The Meatball Parmesan is exceptional. The sauce is perfect and the meatballs are homemade with a variety of meats. Just ask them about this; you'll be glad you did! The sausage and peppers as well as the cutlet were great! I definitely recommend the cannolis and cookies. Don't leave without ordering the potato salad as your side. I am so glad they've come to the Upstate! The shoppe is real nice and the people are too.

Yelp
Not sure you will get another review like this one. So I just drove by Harry's and the sign caught my attention. Went in and OMG the people and assortment of food were Amazing!!! Met the gentlemen with dreds at the register and felt like I was visiting a friend. I say that to say this. I Haven't even unwrapped the sandwich!!!! I hope the food is half as good as my first impression. If it is, I will be a long-term customer of Harry's.

Karen K.

Yelp
Quick service, friendly staff, meh food. I had steak with mushrooms, cheese, onions and a side of pickled veggies. Maybe I expected too much. I thought the bun would be toasty but maybe that's not authentic. It was fresh but blah, not much flavor. The veggies were too heavy on the oregano. Oh well, I gave it a try.

Marianne B.

Yelp
I had the Italian hoagie from Harry's hoagie shoppe today and it was the best hoagie I have had outside of Philly. The roll, the meat and the service are outstanding. Everyone is so friendly and they treat you like family. I highly recommend.
google avatar

Ciara W.

Yelp
Went today with my daughter for lunch. She had the meatball parm hero and ate half there within minutes and took the other half home. I ordered ham and provolone with lettuce and oil and vinegar with macaroni salad on the side. Loved that! Everything was amazing. The meatballs were perfect. Light and fluffy in a perfect sauce. Very welcoming and friendly people. We will be back for sure!!
google avatar

Tommy M.

Yelp
Harry's Hoagies is awesome. I got the 6 inch Italian which comes with a small side. The sub was huge, delicious, and the macaroni salad was good. I will definitely be back soon. The restaurant was spotless and everyone was friendly.
google avatar

Samantha Y.

Yelp
If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. Not only was the food impressive but the staff is top tier. I made a mistake (completely my fault while ordering) but they handled it professionally and made sure I was taken care of and man the food is great. Highly recommend taking the time to get out here for lunch!!
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
Fantastic Phily-style hoagies. They also have great cannoli. Not much in the way of seating, but you can order online and they will text you when it's ready. These are the same owners as Mike's Cheesesteak and Roast Pork Sandwiches in Gather GVL. The place was packed, but service was still quick. The bread is imported from Liscio's Bakery in New Jersey. Highly recommended!

Kellie L.

Yelp
First time going here and the sandwiches were amazing! The Mortadella has pistachio flavors and a slightly spicy sauce, very unique flavors that are perfectly balanced. The Godfather is every bit of an Italian-like sub you could possibly want, super fresh and clean ingredients and the bread is fresh and flavorful. Will definitely be returning!

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Absolutely the best cheesesteak I've ever hated. I'll be back for sure!!! There was a wait around the door. Worth the wait.

Erika R.

Yelp
I wish there was one of these in Macon. The veggie sandwich I had at Harry's was easily the best sandwich I've had, ever. Don't hesitate to eat here!
google avatar

Jean R.

Yelp
Delicious! Worth every calorie. One of those meals that you think about how freaking good it was for days after.

Kelly H.

Yelp
Love the buns!!! Only legit hoagie south of Jersey! Good people. I just have to use the word ambiance to finish this review. Ambulance help me y'all stole my heart with that hoagie!!!!

Chris P.

Yelp
The M.A.P set my life on a trajectory that could never be matched by man-made objects or experiences. I'm not sure how this sandwich was crafted, but it was surely not human. Delicious. Thank you Harry.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
This place is legit. We had family in town and ordered takeout, tried four different subs and all of them were super tasty. They obviously put a lot of effort into their ingredients, using bread from a bakery in NJ, and slicing meats for every individual sandwich! My only complaint was that some of the subs were a little dry, like one more squirt of aioli or Mayo. Can't wait to try more and make this place a regular lunch spot!
google avatar

Thurmond D.

Yelp
I don't usually leave reviews, but Harry's Hoagies deserves praise. I decided to try them because I wanted something different. The roast beef hoagie was excellent. Not only could you taste real roast beef, you could taste actual real provolone. Great people making you feel appreciated. A little pricier than the chains around town but the quality makes it well worth it. Try them - you will not be disappointed.

Shane B.

Yelp
Love having a neighborhood sandwich shop, but not yet there. I went there with my family. Asked if they could change the tv to a local football game and the owner said he couldn't because his staff are Ohio St fans. Not sure what happened to taking care of the customer, but it was off putting to say the least. The price was high for the location as well. Had a slice of cheesecake for $8, wasn't worth it.

Tom W.

Yelp
The turkey sandwich was amazing. Can't wait to come back. We will be back this weekend.

Craig S.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Everyone working was super friendly and the food was amazing-reminded me of home (NY). Meatball, Italian and roast beef were all repeaters. Cannot wait to go back! Worth the trip!

Chris H.

Yelp
Really good! Especially the Bella tonno (sp?) tuna sandwich. Good mix of lemon aioli and spicy peppers.

Billy H.

Yelp
Not my kind of place. Sandwiches are too out there with a bunch of random things that you don't normally eat. Also the sandwiches weren't too bad the pricing is outrageous. $22 for a footlong!

Jorge A.

Yelp
This a legit amazing sandwich place. They have an incredible variety and amazing quality of meats. I had the Tommy Gunn and the M.A.P., but I can not wait to try other sandwiches they have. Also friendly people as well, they take the time to make you feel welcome.
