"Despite an expansion from two-and-a-half to six tables, you still might easily pass right by this diminutive spot at the King’s Cross end of Caledonian Road if you’re not paying attention. And you’d be missing out. The Malaysian specialities are all consistently excellent, especially the mee goreng and the kway teow goreng. With a menu big enough to keep you coming back time and time again, Hawker’s Kitchen is as perfect when you’re in a dosa mood as it is when you’re in the mood for a rich and satisfying curry laksa." - rianne shlebak
"There’s often a polite queue and a merry-go-round of delivery drivers outside this tiny Malaysian spot in King’s Cross. A sure sign that something very right is going on here. That something is Hawker’s Kitchen’s roti. While not the only thing that’s worth travelling for, the outstanding flatbreads—freshly made, ludicrously flaky, and a world-class vehicle for any sauce and curry—are sensational. The elbow-bashing space is a functional room made for huddling in and leaning over channa masala, kway teow goreng, or beef rendang." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna
"You may well pass right by this diminutive spot at the King’s Cross end of Cally Road if you’re not paying attention, but then you’d be missing out. Hawker’s Kitchen cooks Malaysian specialities that are all consistently excellent, especially the flaky roti with beef rendang and the kway toew goreng. With a menu big enough to keep you coming back time and time again, this place is as perfect when you’re in a dosa mood, as it is when you’re in the mood for a rich and satisfying curry laksa. Just bear in mind it’s a squeeze inside so you’ll probably have to wait for a table." - jake missing
"Roti King’s roti king may no longer be central London’s standard bearer for roti prata, or canai. The best version of the rich, flaky bread used to mop up good dal or even better sour fish curries might now be found in this newish Malaysian spot by King’s Cross on Caledonian Road, which puts it to use in one of the most pleasurable breakfasts in the area." - James Hansen
"Roti King’s roti king may no longer be central London’s standard bearer for roti prata or canai. The best version of the rich, flaky bread used to mop up good dal or even better sour fish curries might now be found in this newish Malaysian spot by King’s Cross on Caledonian road. Word is that it’s truly elite when fresh, merely very good when reheated. Elsewhere there are outstanding plates of kway toew goreng, flat noodles which hold onto an umami-heavy, perfectly balanced seasoning, with bamboo shoots, chilli, crispy onions, and scallions; protein is more or less irrelevant. Make sure to order a side pot of sambal and be prepared to compete with the c.millions of delivery orders flying in and out throughout a sit-down meal." - James Hansen
