Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings - Austin - The Infatuation

"Haywire is dedicated to all things Texas. It’s a multi-level steakhouse at The Domain, with West Texas decor and dishes inspired by the entire state, from Gulf Coast lump crab to tomahawk ribeyes that pay tribute to East Texas ranches." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

Haywire is useful for a haphazard "Texas experience" - Review - Austin - The Infatuation

"Haywire is smack in the middle of The Domain, but it looks more like a fancy ranch house that found its way into an outdoor shopping mall. Everything here is unapologetically Texas. Steer horns and cowhide cover three levels of dining space. Giant ice cubes are stamped with the Lone Star state. Frozen Texas teas are almost as refreshing as they are potent. Haywire flattens the state into a greatest-hits reel that feels a little run-of-the-mill Texas theme park-y. Nothing is bad and nothing is particularly good either. photo credit: Manny Rodriguez It’s probably not worth crossing town for the elk tacos or Gulf shrimp alone, but it’s a solid happy hour move if you’re already heading to Macy’s to pick up a new swimsuit for the pool this weekend. Bring your out-of-town friends who want a “Texas experience” but don’t want to dig too deep into what that really means. Food Rundown Mini Elk Tacos These remind us of Taco Bell crunchy tacos, but with microgreens and grilled corn pico in place of iceberg lettuce and soggy tomatoes (cold cheese is an unfortunate constant). These are a solid start to the meal. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Lump Crab Dip Think spinach artichoke dip, but with lump crab instead of artichokes. This is tasty, but it’s probably too rich and creamy for a party of two. Order this if you’re with a larger group. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Gulf Coast Ceviche Haywire’s ceviche is light, crisp, and refreshing. And the large slices of fresh citrus add a nice sweetness to the thick-cut fish and shrimp. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Bone-In Cowboy Ribeye A pretty standard ribeye that arrived a little overcooked, but otherwise satisfying. It’s a little tough, but it’s seasoned well. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Homestead Cake This is made with turnips, carrots, and a whole other medley of root vegetables baked into the alternating layers of cake and molasses buttercream. Don’t worry, it doesn’t taste as much like vegetables as it sounds. It’s very sweet, but an otherwise nice way to end the meal. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary

Best Brunches in Austin | Eater Austin

"New to the Domain North is a sustainability-minded restaurant from Dallas focusing on sourcing meats and vegetables from local farmers. Brunchy items are a guarantee on weekends, with dishes like sweet pastries, venison chili, Texas farm-raised redfish, an array of burgers, and a farmhouse bowl stuffed with chimichurri rice, mushrooms, peppers, arugula, tomatoes, pickled beets, and onions. The interiors are evocative of a Yellowstone-style ranch, characterized by opulence and rich leather. Although it features massive windows that make much of the restaurant feel like it’s outdoors, all dining takes place indoors." - Nadia Chaudhury

Best Restaurants in the Domain in Austin | Eater Austin

"Austin’s first location of this Dallas-born restaurant has something for everyone. Known for its Texas-inspired fare and rustic yet chic decor, Haywire offers a scenic place to unwind and indulge, with dishes like hand-cut steaks, elk tacos, and plenty of fancy whiskey drinks, including an Old Fashioned that’s smoked tableside. This Domain Northside location, a whopping 13,000 square feet, is a multi-level getaway with its own Longhorn Lounge and a Shasta-style trailer for a rooftop retreat on the second-floor patio." - Darcie Duttweiler

We were excited to tried this new restaurant but it was a bit of a letdown. The decor and layout was interesting…not my cup of tea but overall welcoming. The restrooms were unisex which was interesting, but the layout of it totally threw me off. I was expecting something more traditional. There is one area of the restaurant that has a space center Honeywell sensor which should be relocated or placed more higher because a children was playing with it with during our dinner. It just takes one wrong move and the whole AC can go down and this is not what you want. The service was actually really slow but we had an amazing server who was very attentive and provided detailed updates of our order. I had the chicken fried chicken and it was so overly seasoned that I couldn’t finish it; it was just that salty! The mashed potatoes were terrible, they tasted like instant mashed potatoes and not in a good way. The gravy was actually my favorite part of the meal… Overall it wasn’t that great but I will be back to try their bunch to see if it’s any better. *Please note that this is a CASHLESS restaurant! No parking but there is a parking garage near.

We had a lovely time dining here! The drinks and all food were wonderful. I ordered a steak and was overcooked and decided to get a different entree. They quickly accommodated my request and took care of this on my check - I work in the service industry and appreciated the gesture! My friends loved the onion rings and I particularly enjoyed their corn bread a lot! We dined during brunch so I'm excited to try them out for dinner.

Haywire is a New American-style restaurant and steakhouse in Austin-Domain. The interior design is very nice and unique—I think many people will enjoy Texan look and feel of the place. They also have a good bar area if you just want to stop by for some drinks. Tried all their margaritas and the old fashioned. The taste was good, but they felt a bit light on alcohol. We also had the cheese plate, which was very tasty. For the main course, we ordered the ribeye and New York strip steaks, along with three kinds of salads. We asked for medium rare, but the steaks came out medium well. They asked us to cut into them right away to check the temperature, but it was already too late and the food took a while to come, so we just kept them as they were. Overall, it’s a nice place for food or drinks. I don’t think I’ll go back for dinner, but I might return for brunch or just to hang out at the bar.

The food was bar food, edible but nothing special. We ordered the Elk tacos, fried green tomatoes, the double cheese burger, and the homestead cake. The tacos, you could’ve told me it is ground beef and I would’ve believed you. The tomatoes were good. The double cheese burger was decent, nothing special but not dry. Lastly, the homestead cake, the description doesn’t sound appetizing but it was really good, a tad too sweet but good and moist.

Stopped in recently and had a great experience all around. The space has a modern Texas cowboy vibe—nothing cheesy, just warm wood, soft lighting, and a kind of rustic-polished look that feels cool without trying too hard. I ordered the steak salad, and it was really good. The steak was cooked perfectly, juicy with just the right char. The salad itself had a great mix of textures—fresh greens, roasted corn, little crispy bites, and crumbled cheese. Everything tasted fresh and well put together. To drink, I went with the bourbon smash. It came out looking like summer in a glass—mint, blackberry, crushed ice. Super refreshing and balanced, not too sweet. Our server was new—actually her last day of training—but she handled everything like a pro. I didn’t catch her name, but she was friendly, attentive, and seemed genuinely excited to be there. Definitely would go back just for her bright and energetic attitude. Definitely a spot I’d go back to. Solid food, great drinks, chill atmosphere

Update:I have been in this place 5 times now, and the quality has stayed the same... Original review: Although Haywire has only been open for a week and a half, my experience there was truly outstanding. From the incredible quality and flavor of the food to the well-curated drink menu, everything exceeded expectations. Isabella took care of us during our visit and was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also enthusiastic about sharing the story behind the restaurant and its dishes. She even helped us pack everything to go with great care. I’m sharing a few photos of the food, and I can honestly say the taste and freshness were just as impressive as the presentation. The only downside was that they were out of the homestead cake—but that just gives me a reason to go back soon!

This restaurant truly lives up to its reputation when it comes to ambiance and food quality. The atmosphere is elegant and refined—perfect for a special night out. The décor is stunning, the lighting is just right, and the service staff is polite and professional. The food itself was absolutely delicious. Every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and the chefs are skilled. However, the experience was somewhat overshadowed by the extremely long wait. We waited over an hour for our main courses, which really tested our patience. While I understand that quality takes time, the delay was excessive, especially considering the upscale setting. A heads-up or an apology from the staff would have made a big difference. Overall, a wonderful spot with gourmet food and a fancy vibe—but be prepared to wait longer than expected.

This was another gem! The food was outstanding and the margaritas were excellent. We will definitely go back and bring visitors since the restaurant is Texas themed. The waiters were cowboys hats and so on. Sorry, no pictures of the food. Too busy enjoying the baby back ribs to remember to take pictures.
